This is damning what they did. Very, very important information to continue to expose the Epstein situation that could bring down the entirety of state. 03:28:02.840 The state's attorney general is accusing the feds, right, the DOJ led by Todd Blanche,

03:28:08.300 of basically stonewalling the state's investigation into alleged abuse by Jeffrey Epstein at his Zorro ranch.

03:28:15.460 Remember, we took you to the doorstep of that 10,000 acre ranch back in April.

03:28:19.100 It was once owned by Epstein.

03:28:20.580 It's under new ownership now.

03:28:22.320 At least 10 women say Epstein groomed or abused them at the ranch since the mid-90s for decades.

03:28:27.120 Some were teenagers when they say it happened.

03:28:29.160 Right now, state prosecutors in New Mexico, they're looking into this.

03:28:32.240 They have the only active criminal investigation in the U.S. open into Epstein.

03:28:36.260 It's just them.

03:28:37.440 But the state's attorney general is accusing the feds of refusing to facilitate that investigation of state law crimes

03:28:43.620 because they say the department isn't turning over unredacted Epstein files they need.

03:28:58.580 Of course, you and I have spoken repeatedly over a period of many months, and one of the things that you've always left on the table is the possibility that you may take legal action against the DOJ if you were not getting the documents that you wanted to see.

03:29:12.060 Now, here we are today. That legal action is upon us here. What specifically do you need from the DOJ that they're not giving you, and why is it, you think, why are they not doing it, in your view?

03:29:22.040 Well, Hallie, fundamentally, we need Todd Blanche and the United States Department of Justice to stop stonewalling this agency.

03:29:30.200 It's been 173 days since we first asked for unredacted access to the complete Epstein files.

03:29:37.700 And we still don't have that access, despite repeated assurances from Mr. Blanche, Jay Clayton and others that they would cooperate with this investigation and help us move things forward so we could try and hold people accountable here in New Mexico.

03:29:51.480 Why is it so important for you to get access to these unredacted files?

03:29:55.880 Well, what we know now from looking at at least some of the documents that are available through the Epstein Transparency Act is that Zorro Ranch is referenced more than 13,000 times.

03:30:08.000 The problem is that many of those references are then obscured in terms of being redacted in whole or in part.

03:30:15.820 What that means is that we can't clearly identify potential co-conspirators, witnesses, other evidence or leads that we could develop in terms of furthering our investigation.

03:30:26.440 We have asked for the kind of cooperation that state and federal law enforcement officers and agencies have engaged in for decades.

03:30:34.460 And for whatever reason, Todd Blanche and the Department of Justice simply refuses to cooperate with this ongoing criminal probe here in New Mexico.

03:30:42.580 Do you believe that the feds have the initial investigative file that the state turned over to the DOJ back in 2019?

03:30:51.500 I think they have access to not only that information, but a whole range of additional information that would be helpful to advancing the different theories and the potential co-conspirators that my investigators and prosecutors are looking at right now.

03:31:06.700 And so, you know, when there are 13,000 references in the open source files that we know about and the department hands us back 31 pages of recycled news clippings and correspondence from our own agency, it's pretty obvious that they're that they're stonewalling and that they're obstructing our requests.

03:31:26.860 We've done everything that they have asked in terms of following their process, following their procedure.

03:31:31.660 And at the end of the day, it just seems like there is no commitment to transparency and cooperation on their part.

03:31:37.560 And do you blame Todd Blanche for that?

03:31:40.300 You know, I think this is a collective responsibility at the Department of Justice.

03:31:44.800 I mean, obviously, Mr. Blanche has been sort of at the center of making all the key and critical decisions,

03:31:50.040 including decisions that led to the mishandling of private and sensitive information related to Epstein survivors.

03:31:56.960 He certainly now is the acting attorney general, the person responsible and the person who could, frankly, before this day is out, could, with the stroke of a pen, grant us the access that we've been asking for direct to the Southern District, direct the attorneys that work in his agency to comply with the request and give us this information.

03:32:15.780 He still refuses to do that. And there is not any clear explanation that I have seen or legal justification for why they are refusing to cooperate.

03:32:25.580 Well, I can tell you, you say the DOJ is stonewalling.

03:32:27.940 Here's what the DOJ is saying, because they've sent us a statement now on your lawsuit today.

03:32:31.740 I'm going to read it to you.

03:32:32.880 They say that the Epstein Files Transparency Act does not require,

03:32:36.060 and the protective orders in place in the Southern District of New York do not permit,

03:32:39.760 disclosure of victim-identifying information carte blanche.

03:32:43.040 And they say that New Mexico, your state, has provided no lawful basis to justify such sweeping disclosures.

03:32:49.600 No lawful basis is what they say, sir.

03:32:51.480 They also say they're available to assist your investigation as consistent with the law.

03:32:55.520 Your response?

03:32:57.600 Well, I think it's both hypocritical and cowardly for an agency that has evidenced no real commitment to respecting the privacy rights and interests or, you know,

03:33:09.460 the basic decency of the Epstein survivors to then hide behind Epstein survivors and use that

03:33:15.740 as some sort of justification for not cooperating with the only active law enforcement investigation

03:33:21.480 in the country. You know, I think if you asked Epstein survivors if they agree with Todd Blanche's

03:33:27.980 decision to stonewall our request for access to this information, they wouldn't support that.

03:33:33.440 As to, you know, what the legal justification is, we have provided them with ample legal justification and specifics related to our ongoing criminal investigation.

03:33:44.740 They are simply coming up with excuses and procedural excuses to try and shield what is ultimately a policy decision that Todd Blanche has made because he has decided that he is unwilling to cooperate and support this ongoing investigation.

03:34:03.680 You write that the DOJ's own prosecution memo for the investigation into potential Epstein co-conspirators describes a sexual assault by a woman who was not Ghislaine Maxwell occurring at Zora Ranch.

03:34:14.320 Mr. Attorney General, do you think at this point that there was another woman facilitating assaults in a similar way to Maxwell?

03:34:21.240 The truth is, we don't know at this point.

03:34:23.840 I mean, it's a it's a possibility, but it's the kind of thing that, you know, we can't get to the bottom of and we can't get all the answers that we need in the time that we have to sort of resolve this question.

03:34:37.620 If we had access to all the files, we would be in a much better position to answer that question and a whole range of other questions about who is implicated beyond Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell.

03:34:49.740 How did this occur? What co-conspirators have yet to be identified? What survivors have yet to be identified?

03:34:55.800 What other witnesses and evidence we could use in building a prosecution here in the state of New Mexico?

03:35:36.340 Are you willing to collaborate, as they say, coordinate and collaborate with them?

03:35:41.340 Yeah, we've been engaged in a process with them for the last several months.

03:35:45.560 We've sent them proposed MOUs and we are waiting for their response to how we can coordinate, particularly engagement with survivors.

03:35:55.320 One of the things that is of paramount interest for us and for our prosecutors is to be able to maintain the integrity of statements that are obtained from survivors because we want to make sure that those are still viable statements that can be used potentially in a criminal case.

03:36:11.980 We haven't been able to resolve that in terms of developing an MOU, but that's something that we continue to work through, and it's a process that we've been engaged in for quite some time.
