you ever watch this guy on television you all were not telling the truth and you should not
00:00:06.100
be trusted congressman matt gates thank you for what you did for your country today be offended
00:00:09.760
with the democratic whip not house republicans like a machine matt gates
00:00:13.940
welcome to hot takes i'm congressman matt gates let's talk about the news the news today is that
00:00:22.100
president trump has joined the criticism of congresswoman liz cheney and her leadership
00:00:28.140
in the house of representatives the president tweeting liz cheney is only upset because i have
00:00:33.760
been actually getting our great and beautiful country out of the ridiculous and costly endless
00:00:39.820
wars i'm also making our so-called allies pay tens of billions of dollars in delinquent military cost
00:00:46.600
they must at least treat us fairly the president there in just one tweet articulating america first
00:00:54.880
foreign policy laying out the trump doctrine that we should expect more of our friends and we should
00:01:01.020
not mire ourselves distract ourselves drain our great country in the endless wars that have been
00:01:07.440
supported by liz cheney and her allies in congress i do not see how it is tenable for liz cheney to
00:01:14.240
continue as the republican conference chair with outward disagreement with the president like this
00:01:20.980
it's not just on matters of policy it's one thing to disagree on policy it's quite another as liz has done
00:01:26.940
to chide the president to take up nancy pelosi's hashtag and to put the republican conference in a diminished
00:01:34.480
position that's not just my view it's the president's view it seems to be jim jordan's view based on his
00:01:40.780
statements i know it's the view of a number of people in the freedom caucus and i think it's time for a change
00:01:46.940
with the chairmanship of the house republican conference liz has had a run and it appears
00:01:53.680
based on the president's tweet this morning that that run should be over
00:01:57.580
the kanye west political campaign may be seeing some challenges before the presidential run really
00:02:06.980
gets off the ground kim kardashian taking to social media to reflect on kanye's apparent bipolar disorder
00:02:15.140
we don't want to make a light at all of that if there's a mental health challenge that any american
00:02:20.920
is facing whether they're in politics or any other aspect of life we certainly hope that they get the
00:02:26.940
help that they need i did not see the dave chappelle visit to kanye as someone joining a buddy on the
00:02:33.660
campaign trail it struck me as someone who was concerned and uh i i could see based on the behavior why
00:02:41.240
that concern would be apparent and at the center of i guess the kim kardashian conway dispute is the
00:02:48.080
interaction that kim kardashian west had with rapper meek mill uh i guess somewhat of a rival somewhat of
00:02:56.100
a friend of kanye west kim kardashian meets up with meek mill in a hotel room uh to discuss criminal
00:03:03.940
justice reform and that was something that kanye took great exception with liz waddle at the uk
00:03:11.100
mirror has the story and uh i don't know it appears that the kanye for president campaign has all the
00:03:21.520
the human trafficking of children across the u.s mexico border remains one of the saddest one of the
00:03:30.880
most disturbing things that i've personally observed in public life i went down to yuma arizona with
00:03:37.540
fellow congressman andy biggs from the state of arizona and we saw firsthand the bravery of our
00:03:44.420
border patrol the heartwarming action of so many of our humanitarian workers but also we saw how u.s
00:03:52.780
policy impacts human trafficking and not always for the better at least until president trump made some
00:03:59.520
very needed changes you see when our policy was that we would treat people differently if they came
00:04:05.740
across with children well then of course the cartels were doing everything possible to pair people up
00:04:11.920
with children and when you would see an abduction of 30 60 140 people you would always see every adult
00:04:20.120
clutching a little child like that child was some sort of fast pass to disney world the reality is that
00:04:27.040
we saw circumstances where the same children were being shuttled back and forth across the border
00:04:32.980
multiple times again as as sort of a pass to entry and to an entry that wouldn't have the same
00:04:39.300
incarceration and accountability and demand to show up for a trial that would append to someone who
00:04:45.660
didn't bring a child across the border so i say all of that to set the stage for some very needed
00:04:51.980
policy reforms the trump administration made notably the return of many of these migrants back to
00:04:58.260
guatemala honduras el salvador immediately upon their apprehension to await their asylum uh claim
00:05:05.340
and then also we've got tens of thousands of people awaiting their asylum claim now in mexico that hadn't
00:05:11.400
happened before the trump administration to the same volume folks were in the united states waiting
00:05:16.520
those awaiting those asylum claims and 93 percent of the time they would never actually show up for the
00:05:23.420
hearing all of that sets the stage for the need for congress to act because until we change the
00:05:31.140
asylum laws there is still an incentive to bring children even sometimes children who aren't your own
00:05:38.060
across the border illegally that is the scene that is i think very well depicted in a recent cnn piece
00:05:47.700
entitled 23 abducted children aged from three months to 15 years rescued from a house in southern mexico
00:05:56.460
and this story talks about a house in san cristobal de las casas in mexico where clearly the cartels have
00:06:05.460
rounded up a bunch of children to then provide people who are making their trek north with the hope that
00:06:12.260
because congress hasn't changed the asylum laws someone will be treated differently as a consequence of
00:06:18.920
possessing these children but the result of this policy is that children are abducted stolen rented
00:06:27.300
trafficked and then even at times returned back to mexico to engage in the entire journey the entire
00:06:34.480
venture all over again congress must act to reform our asylum laws so that there is never
00:06:42.260
an incentive for cartels to steal children to rent them out to people and to dehumanize just the
00:06:50.140
the very essence of innocent childhood children shouldn't have to go through these things and we
00:06:56.080
shouldn't have the policies in place that incentivize this type of adhorrent bad behavior let's change
00:07:03.060
our asylum laws in a way that's humanitarian that allows people due process but that doesn't create
00:07:09.160
such a loophole or such a perverse incentive as to lead to some of those the most damaging and
00:07:15.140
challenging experiences that a young person could encounter a lot of times these children are just
00:07:19.780
abducted they're physically abused they're sexually abused and we should not allow that to happen as a
00:07:26.120
consequence of the decisions that we fail to make in the u.s congress let's step up let's reform
00:07:31.620
asylum laws the world will be a better place if we do houston we have a problem and it's the chinese
00:07:41.320
consulate tulsi kamath with the associated press has the story china says u.s orders it to close
00:07:48.280
consulate in houston to protect american intellectual property after officials respond to fire that's right
00:07:55.320
after the united states noted that the chinese consulate in houston had to go that those folks
00:08:02.520
were not engaged in activities that were permissible in our country they immediately responded by setting
00:08:09.100
a bunch of paper on fire and witnesses on the scene according to this ap report could smell the paper
00:08:14.900
burning and so it uh seems a little fishy to me that that type of activity would be going on and i know
00:08:21.700
that our listeners have been following the reports that china has been trying everything possible to
00:08:27.620
steal the intellectual property associated with our vaccine development for the coronavirus they think
00:08:34.480
that it will help them with medical diplomacy around the world to beat the united states since
00:08:39.260
they don't have the same innovative economy in china they steal stuff and here i don't know if it was
00:08:45.460
associated with the coronavirus and the efforts of china to steal that vaccine but the u.s has
00:08:51.440
ordered china to close its consulate in houston the foreign minister the chinese foreign minister i
00:08:57.520
should say had a spokesman wang wenbin comment on the action condemning it saying the unilateral
00:09:04.280
closure of chinese consul general in houston within a short period of time is an unparalleled escalation
00:09:10.560
in recent actions against china again the u.s said in a brief statement that this was a consequence
00:09:16.440
of the need to protect our country in the area of intellectual property the chinese embassy in
00:09:22.980
washington has received bomb threats and death threats according to chinese statements the chinese
00:09:30.880
are also complaining about the u.s opening diplomatic pouches china is not our friend the chinese are not
00:09:39.960
here to be our friendly competitor they're not here to play by the rules in far too many circumstances
00:09:46.380
and i am incredibly proud of the trump administration for expelling those who would do harm to our
00:09:53.040
businesses to our economy to our national security to our medical security and if the chinese can't
00:09:58.480
handle that well i guess they're getting the message that the u.s isn't just going to be a chump
00:10:04.580
in our interactions with them anymore i wonder what they were burning i wonder if we'll find out
00:10:10.460
i wonder if more chinese consulates are going to be closed in the united states we'll be covering it
00:10:15.460
sean hannity is like my maga big brother he's always far too laudatory and kind to me when we're
00:10:24.940
on air together here's my interview with sean hannity today comrade bill de blasio continued
00:10:29.560
his denial new york city is experiencing extremely dangerous crime wave on his watch he's threatening
00:10:35.200
to sue president trump matt gates you see this unfolding around the country america is a great
00:10:41.360
nation and a great nation does not allow her cities to fall victim to the angry mob the victims in these
00:10:48.020
cases of violence who see their businesses destroyed their churches burned sometimes even their lives lost
00:10:54.580
or the lives lost of their children they're not just seattleites or portlanders or new yorkers
00:11:00.100
they're americans and you're right secretary chad wolf said that if we didn't have federal troops there
00:11:06.860
the federal courthouses the federal buildings would literally fall and so president trump doesn't just
00:11:13.020
have a legal obligation he has a moral obligation to act and our nation is stronger than this mob
00:11:20.380
i'm glad that president trump is going to prove it and these municipal leaders who've been
00:11:25.480
feckless and cowardly they will be exposed for what they are
00:11:29.260
well and matt gates can announce he's going to run for president in 2028 i just hear i've been hearing rumors
00:11:34.220
all day about that and while i appreciate his fanning of the flames of presidential aspirations
00:11:40.300
i think what's far more important for this moment is the need to support our president
00:11:45.260
as he is sending in the requisite force protection so that our federal property doesn't fall so that
00:11:52.800
our major cities don't fall i often think about how folks throughout the world observe these riots
00:11:59.580
where churches are burned where businesses are destroyed where people are killed and it doesn't
00:12:05.420
make america look like the best version of ourselves and while the president certainly has a moral
00:12:11.980
obligation to protect the americans who are in these cities who want nothing to do with violence or
00:12:19.260
lawlessness they just want the chance to peacefully live and love their neighbors and be americans and go
00:12:25.020
about american way of life while he's got a moral obligation to protect those folks i think that
00:12:30.220
the media doesn't really portray the legal obligation that the president has to protect federal property
00:12:38.140
federal law says that the department of homeland security is charged with the protection of our
00:12:45.420
buildings and so acting secretary of dhs chad wolf doesn't have the option to just sit back and allow our
00:12:52.940
courthouses or buildings to fall that would be a dereliction of duty on his part and so i'm glad that
00:12:59.580
we're getting the force protection in place to ensure that the americans who serve in these buildings
00:13:06.460
who work there who provide and help their fellow americans are able to do so safely because a great
00:13:13.580
nation does not let her cities fall and america is stronger than the mob
00:13:21.340
despite the advance of a pandemic despite severe economic challenges for america's small businesses
00:13:28.620
despite the need to change our unemployment system so that people are encouraged to get back to work
00:13:34.780
and get our economy moving again democrats in the house judiciary committee chose today as
00:13:40.140
yet another opportunity to attack president trump and relive some of their great passions on the
00:13:47.020
russia hoax unbelievable and they've chosen an attack on the pardon power and an attack on the
00:13:53.420
presidency itself to try to execute on this here is my debate today in the house judiciary committee this
00:13:59.340
isn't a hearing about the presidency it's not a hearing about the rule of law about maintaining
00:14:05.580
anti-corruption endeavors this is just an opportunity to continue to smear president trump rather than
00:14:13.100
working together to solve the serious challenges that are plaguing the nation and the reason the
00:14:18.220
amendment from mr stewby really proves that point is that if we were really worried about corruption if we
00:14:24.540
were really worried about people exceeding the scope of their authority or power in a criminal way
00:14:30.780
then we would have that same concern for both the presidency and the vice presidency i suspect in the
00:14:37.980
democrat debate on this subject we won't be hearing why the presidency is so fundamentally different
00:14:44.140
than the vice presidency why we would tolerate corruption or illegal or improper behavior to a different
00:14:50.460
extent in the vice presidency than with the presidency no this is just the death rattle of impeachment we
00:14:57.580
also heard from house judiciary republican ranking member jim jordan this was his debate no collusion
00:15:04.380
between russia and the trump campaign democrats would like us to forget chairman nadler's fishing expedition
00:15:09.020
remember this 81 letters sent to different people different entities associated with president trump
00:15:16.620
which also uncovered no wrongdoing they like us to forget actually
00:15:21.420
maybe they wish that we never even knew that the officials from the obama biden administration
00:15:25.420
testified to the intelligence committee that there was no collusion at the time of the transition in 2017
00:15:31.740
the democrats would certainly like us to forget the failed impeachment sham the first partisan impeachment in history
00:15:36.220
the democrats impeachment was actually so unpopular that it actually made a democrat member leave his party
00:15:40.460
leave that party and become a republican here we are once again choosing to prioritize these attacks on the
00:15:47.420
president instead house democrats have shown they will take every opportunity to attack the president
00:15:52.300
regardless of the truth regardless of the facts this bill is nothing more than a legislative manifestation
00:15:56.700
of that desire the american people will see right through this stunt again after nearly four years
00:16:02.220
and countless wasted hours of partisan partisan investigations chairman nadler is yet refusing again to let
00:16:09.260
go of the collusion delusion i think we can do better than this and we should be focusing on the
00:16:13.340
things that matter to the american people and so we hope that the democrats will be able to refocus and
00:16:18.460
work with us to meet the nation's challenges but that does not appear to be happening in the judiciary
00:16:23.740
committee where it is all impeachment all investigations all shame in the president all the time we can do
00:16:29.900
better than this but we're going to have to see serious legislation rather than just this messaging fiasco coming
00:16:37.740
out of house democrats thanks so much for listening to hot takes i'm congressman matt gates don't forget
