00:00:00.000 You ever watch this guy on television?
00:00:03.820 You all were not telling the truth, and you should not be trusted.
00:00:06.560 Congressman Matt Gaetz, thank you for what you did for your country tonight.
00:00:09.280 Be offended with the Democratic whip, not House Republicans.
00:00:12.240 Like a machine, Matt Gaetz.
00:00:16.460 Welcome to a special edition of Hot Takes.
00:00:18.700 I'm Congressman Matt Gaetz.
00:00:20.560 We'll be giving highlights from the Republican National Convention.
00:00:24.440 Here was my speech in full.
00:00:25.940 I'm Congressman Matt Gaetz.
00:00:27.400 I'm speaking to you from an auditorium emptier than Joe Biden's daily schedule.
00:00:33.120 But we are a nation of full hearts and clear minds.
00:00:36.940 We see the choice clearly.
00:00:38.600 Strength or weakness.
00:00:40.440 Energy or confusion.
00:00:42.360 Success or failure.
00:00:44.120 President Trump is the first president since Reagan not to start a new war.
00:00:48.040 Biden has foolishly cheerled decades of war without winning, without end.
00:00:52.920 President Trump knows we are strongest when we fight hardest, not in distant deserts, but for our fellow Americans.
00:01:00.380 We must fight to save America now, or we may lose her forever.
00:01:04.660 Joe Biden might not even notice.
00:01:07.480 Settle for Biden. 0.53
00:01:08.520 That's the hashtag promoted by AOC and the socialists.
00:01:11.700 The Woketopians will settle for Biden because they will make him an extra in a movie written, produced, and directed by others.
00:01:19.480 It's a horror film, really.
00:01:21.120 They'll disarm you, empty the prisons, lock you in your home, and invite MS-13 to live next door. 0.97
00:01:27.740 And the police aren't coming when you call.
00:01:29.740 In Democrat-run cities, they're already being defunded, disbanded.
00:01:33.960 Blaming our best and allowing society's worst?
00:01:38.440 That's the story they write in Hollywood.
00:01:40.880 That's if the lights even stay on in California anymore.
00:01:44.600 A state that cannot keep power running for its own people should not send its junior senator to be vice president.
00:01:51.320 They used to write only in fiction, but nightmares are becoming real.
00:01:56.340 Cops killed.
00:01:57.720 Children shot.
00:01:58.960 At the Democrat convention, they say, if you vote against Trump, it will all stop.
00:02:03.960 Appeasement is never a winning strategy.
00:02:06.400 No, we won't settle for violence in our neighborhoods or at our border.
00:02:09.960 We won't settle for decades of bad decisions by basement-dwelling Joe Biden.
00:02:15.100 We settle a continent.
00:02:16.680 We know that the frontier, the horizon, even the stars belong to us.
00:02:21.180 Donald Trump, like all builders, is a visionary.
00:02:24.280 That which is built in the mind is even more powerful than the brick and mortar that holds it together.
00:02:29.800 First comes the mind, then the making.
00:02:31.800 First comes the vision, then the work.
00:02:35.240 Washington, Lincoln, and Jefferson are immortal precisely because of the pull they have on our imagination.
00:02:41.800 You cannot cancel a culture that loves its heroes.
00:02:44.800 The dangerous left need America to be weaker to accomplish their goal of replacing her. 1.00
00:02:51.040 We know that to make America great again, we must first make something of ourselves.
00:02:56.520 That is the meaning of true strength.
00:02:59.060 My great-grandfather was a railroad man.
00:03:01.000 As a Florida man, I watch our rockets routinely send the brightest beyond the heavens with our flag and our hope.
00:03:08.500 America is the greatest country that has ever existed.
00:03:12.340 Don't let any celebrity, athlete, or politician tell you otherwise.
00:03:15.880 President Trump sometimes raises his voice and a ruckus.
00:03:20.600 He knows that's what it takes to raise an army of patriots who love America and will protect her.
00:03:26.900 We must win this election if we cherish our country as much as we should.
00:03:31.000 For there is no place to run, no refuge for freedom should we fail.
00:03:34.920 America is not just an idea or a constitution.
00:03:39.300 It is our home.
00:03:40.920 We must protect our home with unbreakable made-in-America strength.
00:03:45.860 Strength I see every day in President Donald Trump.
00:03:50.340 Thank you.
00:03:51.120 My good friend Donald Trump Jr. also addressed the convention.
00:03:54.320 Take a listen to his remarks.
00:03:55.480 We're here tonight to talk about the great American story.
00:03:58.660 To talk about this country we all love.
00:04:00.920 This land of promise and opportunity, of heroes and greatness.
00:04:06.200 Just a few short months ago we were seeing the American dream become a reality for more of our citizens than ever before.
00:04:14.140 The greatest prolonged economic expansion in American history.
00:04:18.500 The lowest unemployment rate in nearly 50 years.
00:04:21.520 The lowest unemployment rates ever for black Americans, Hispanic Americans, women, and pretty much every other demographic group.
00:04:30.920 And then, courtesy of the Chinese Communist Party, the virus struck. 0.94
00:04:36.000 The president quickly took action and shut down travel from China.
00:04:40.140 Joe Biden and his Democrat allies called my father a racist and a xenophobe for doing it.
00:04:45.640 They put political correctness ahead of the safety and security of the American people.
00:04:50.380 Fortunately, as the virus began to spread, the president acted quickly and ensured ventilators got to hospitals that needed them most.
00:04:58.900 He delivered P, P, and E to our brave frontline workers.
00:05:02.060 And he rallied the mighty American private sector to tackle this new challenge.
00:05:08.080 There is more work to do, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
00:05:11.740 Job gains are outpacing what the so-called experts expected.
00:05:17.400 Democrats claim to be for workers, but they've spent the entire pandemic trying to sneak a tax break for millionaires and Democrat states into the COVID relief bill.
00:05:26.940 Then, they attacked my father for suspending the payroll tax for middle-class workers.
00:05:31.840 After eight years of Obama and Biden's slow growth, Trump's policies have been like rocket fuel to the economy and especially to the middle class.
00:05:41.520 So, if you're looking for hope, look to the man who did what the failed Obama-Biden administration never could do and built the greatest economy our country has ever seen.
00:05:52.780 And President Trump will do it again.
00:05:54.500 We will be stronger than ever because when we put our mind to it, there is no obstacle that America can't surmount.
00:06:03.080 Except there's a difference this time.
00:06:05.600 In the past, both parties believed in the goodness of America.
00:06:10.420 We agreed on where we wanted to go.
00:06:12.600 We just disagreed on how to get there.
00:06:15.280 This time, the other party is attacking the very principles on which our nation was founded.
00:06:21.580 Freedom of thought.
00:06:23.360 Freedom of speech.
00:06:24.500 Freedom of religion.
00:06:26.460 The rule of law.
00:06:27.540 The president giving a 55-minute address just to get us warmed up for the Republican convention.
00:06:35.200 He'll be a part of each and every night.
00:06:38.180 Here were some of the highlights from his speech.
00:06:39.940 We caught them doing some really bad things in 2016.
00:06:44.600 Let's see what happens.
00:06:45.700 We caught them doing some really bad things.
00:06:47.440 We have to be very careful because they're trying it again with this whole 80 million mail-in ballots that they're working on.
00:06:55.100 And sending them out to people that didn't ask for them.
00:06:59.260 They didn't ask.
00:07:00.000 They just get them.
00:07:01.580 And it's not fair.
00:07:02.660 And it's not right.
00:07:03.660 And it's not going to be possible to tabulate, in my opinion.
00:07:07.440 It's just my opinion.
00:07:09.360 We have to be very, very careful.
00:07:10.980 And you have to watch.
00:07:12.020 Every one of you, you have to watch.
00:07:14.160 Because bad things happened last time with the spying on our campaign.
00:07:18.060 And that goes to Biden.
00:07:19.740 And that goes to Obama.
00:07:21.720 And we have to be very, very careful.
00:07:23.760 We have to be very, very careful.
00:07:25.440 And this time they're trying to do it with the whole post office scam.
00:07:29.620 They'll blame it on the post office.
00:07:31.120 You can see them setting it up.
00:07:33.160 Be very careful and watch it very carefully.
00:07:35.640 Because we have to win.
00:07:36.940 This is the most important election in the history of our country.
00:07:41.020 This is the most.
00:07:41.840 You know, for a long period of time, I would say, well, 2016, how special was that evening?
00:07:50.820 Was that one of the great?
00:07:52.820 That was one of the great evenings.
00:07:54.780 But we have to be very, very careful.
00:07:56.720 And we have to win.
00:07:58.700 Our country is counting on it.
00:08:00.680 This is the biggest.
00:08:02.480 This is it.
00:08:03.300 Our country can go in a horrible, horrible direction.
00:08:06.900 Or in an even greater direction.
00:08:09.300 And before the plague came in from China, that's where we were going. 0.92
00:08:14.220 We were going in a direction like we had never seen.
00:08:16.920 The most successful economy in the history of our country.
00:08:20.820 The best unemployment numbers in history for African American, Asian American, Hispanic American, women, college students, bad students, good students, everybody.
00:08:36.520 If you had a diploma, if you didn't have a diploma, it didn't matter.
00:08:40.640 You were doing well.
00:08:42.060 Everybody was doing well.
00:08:44.420 And we were actually coming together.
00:08:47.560 You know, success brings people together.
00:08:49.540 Maybe better than anything else.
00:08:51.200 Success brings people.
00:08:52.220 So many times they say we're divided.
00:08:54.620 Well, we were very divided under President Obama.
00:08:58.020 Very divided.
00:08:58.840 People have no idea how divided.
00:09:01.120 They didn't talk about it as much.
00:09:02.760 They didn't say it as much.
00:09:04.020 But we were really coming together.
00:09:07.560 And I was speaking with Democrats all of a sudden because the success.
00:09:12.280 The markets were at an all-time high.
00:09:14.100 And by the way, take a look at what's happening with the markets.
00:09:17.620 Take a look at your 401ks, which you probably do every hour.
00:09:21.880 Take a look at your stocks.
00:09:23.560 We're very close to breaking the record.
00:09:25.720 And NASDAQ has already done it.
00:09:28.580 You know, NASDAQ has broken the record, I think, 16 times already.
00:09:33.840 We also heard from the Vice President.
00:09:36.220 Here's Vice President Pence.
00:09:37.280 It was four years ago that all of you gathered here made it possible for America to have a fresh start.
00:09:44.460 You knew we could be strong again.
00:09:46.960 You knew we could be prosperous again.
00:09:49.520 You knew we could have a president who put America first again.
00:09:55.520 And in 2016, you elected President Donald Trump to the White House.
00:10:01.160 And think of all we've done.
00:10:04.320 We revived this economy through cutting taxes, rolling back regulations, unleashing American energy and fighting for free and fair trade.
00:10:13.500 And after years of budget cuts, this president rebuilt our military.
00:10:18.100 We restored the arsenal of democracy, and we're once again giving our soldiers, sailors, airmen, marines, and Space Force the resources that they need to defend this nation every day.
00:10:31.260 We've stood up for the rule of law and for our most cherished liberties.
00:10:41.060 This president has seen, with your support, more than 200 men and women confirmed to our federal courts at every level.
00:10:50.020 And they are all conservatives who will uphold the God-given liberties enshrined in our Constitution, like the freedom of religion, the freedom of speech, and the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms.
00:11:02.380 Kimberly Guilfoyle was in her usual enthusiastic mood.
00:11:07.000 Here are some of the patriotic words from Kimberly Guilfoyle.
00:11:10.140 I speak to you tonight as a mother, a former prosecutor, a Latina, and a proud American.
00:11:17.260 And yes, a proud supporter of President Donald J. Trump.
00:11:22.360 Why?
00:11:23.360 Because he is the president who delivers for America.
00:11:27.520 He built the greatest economy the world has ever known for the strivers, the working class, and middle class.
00:11:35.120 As commander-in-chief, he always puts America first.
00:11:39.000 President Trump is the law and order president.
00:11:43.180 Now, presidential leadership is not guaranteed.
00:11:46.500 It is a choice.
00:11:48.260 Biden, Harris, and the rest of the socialists will fundamentally change this nation.
00:11:53.300 They want open borders, closed schools, dangerous amnesty, and will selfishly send your jobs back to China while they get rich. 0.97
00:12:03.900 They will defund, dismantle, and destroy America's law enforcement.
00:12:09.720 When you are in trouble and need police, don't count on the Democrats.
00:12:15.480 As a first-generation American, I know how dangerous their socialist agenda is.
00:12:23.360 My mother, Mercedes, was a special education teacher from Aguadilla, Puerto Rico.
00:12:28.400 My father, also an immigrant, came to this nation in pursuit of the American dream.
00:12:33.600 Now, I consider it my duty to fight to protect that dream.
00:12:40.040 Rioters must not be allowed to destroy our cities.
00:12:44.060 Human, sex, drug traffickers should not be allowed to cross our border.
00:12:48.420 The same socialist policies which destroyed places like Cuba and Venezuela must not take root in our cities and our schools.
00:12:59.920 Thanks for listening to Hot Takes.
00:13:01.540 We'll be back tomorrow with more convention highlights.
