00:00:00.000 you ever watch this guy on television you all were not telling the truth and you should not
00:00:06.120 be trusted congressman matt gates thank you for what you did for your country today be offended
00:00:09.780 with the democratic whip not house republicans like a machine matt gates
00:00:13.980 welcome to hot takes i'm congressman matt gates let's talk about the news the ninth circuit has
00:00:23.020 ruled that the bulk collection of american phone records was illegal now this is a program that has
00:00:30.780 been suspended but we learned about it in 2013 as the consequence of leaks that edwards noted
00:00:38.180 provided to journalists we learned that the nsa had a program that determined who we called that
00:00:45.380 collected that information that stored it and then allowed it to be searched without a warrant now
00:00:51.680 there are a number of liberty-minded americans deeply deeply concerned about this edward snowden
00:00:58.180 tweeting about it saying that he never thought he'd see the day when this program that he exposed would
00:01:03.860 be absolutely deemed illegal that seems to be what the ninth circuit has done here's my hot take
00:01:11.180 james clapper lied to the american people he was the uh guy kind of brought to congress to give straight
00:01:19.020 answers and here were the responses he gave does the nsa collect any type of data at all on millions or
00:01:27.900 hundreds of millions of americans no sir it does not not wittingly so clearly clapper wasn't telling
00:01:38.520 the truth but you know who did tell the american people the truth edward snowden and as of today
00:01:45.580 the case has never been stronger that edward snowden deserves a pardon from president trump
00:01:52.460 i would support a pardon for edward snowden if it were not for snowden we might not know today
00:01:59.840 that our own government was engaged in an activity that now a federal appellate court has deemed
00:02:06.240 illegal it's not just the right policy to pardon snowden it would also be the right politics for the
00:02:13.380 president you got a lot of folks in michigan and elsewhere that have the option of a libertarian
00:02:18.680 candidate to vote for and i think if president trump were to pardon edward snowden you would see
00:02:25.140 just tremendous enthusiasm among libertarian leaning voters for the president and you know what it's what
00:02:31.780 trump promised us that he would call a spade a spade that he wouldn't be beholden to the dogmas and
00:02:38.420 doctrines of yesteryear that have constrained our country and that have empowered an incompetent
00:02:43.680 government against our people our people are better off because we know that our government was
00:02:49.560 illegally spying on us now that we know that now that this ruling has been issued now that the program
00:02:56.180 has been suspended the right thing to do is pardon edward snowden and bring him home and you know what
00:03:02.720 maybe we can make the pardon conditional on snowden's willingness to go back to work for our government
00:03:08.280 and help us get the bad guys without violating the rights of american citizens america first
00:03:14.940 means the rights of american citizens first and those rights would be vindicated with a pardon of edward snowden
00:03:21.900 fox news's chris wallace will moderate the first presidential debate between former vice president
00:03:31.700 joe biden and president trump chris wallace was one of the moderators in the hillary clinton
00:03:38.140 donald trump debate series you'll also have usa today washington bureau chief susan page
00:03:44.620 moderating the vice presidential debate in salt lake city that will be on october 7th the very first
00:03:51.940 presidential debate will be september 29th and then you'll have c-span senior executive producer
00:03:57.340 and political editor steve scully moderating the second trump biden debate on october 15th in miami
00:04:04.200 and rounding out the series you get nbc news white house correspondent kirsten welker moderating the
00:04:11.400 third presidential debate october 22nd in nashville tennessee here's my hot take we don't need moderators
00:04:19.300 at all just throw biden and trump on stage start the cameras set a timer for two or three hours let
00:04:28.620 them have a discussion let them contrast ideas let them go at each other honestly no one is watching
00:04:35.980 these debates to see the moderator we want to see the candidates let's hope the moderators don't want
00:04:41.140 to make themselves the star if i have any criticism of chris wallace it is that he does at times want to
00:04:47.980 sort of become the story and utilize the question as a platform to prosecute a particular frame on an issue
00:04:55.640 rather than utilizing a question as a platform for the candidates to contrast and exchange ideas so
00:05:03.700 we want to hear from the candidates not the moderators but now we know who they'll be
00:05:07.980 hey all you cool cats and kittens you know what we need more of in america carol baskin right now
00:05:17.560 and abc has got a deal to have the tiger king documentary star on dancing with the stars here's
00:05:25.700 the report from good morning america and finally the one we've been waiting for get ready to roar
00:05:31.480 with her signature flower crown she's dancing away from big cat rescue all the way to the ballroom
00:05:40.680 even bringing her cats it's the tiger queen herself carol baskin get ready you cool cats and kittens
00:05:48.740 i'm sure she will have killer moves
00:05:52.020 remote work is killing the hidden trillion dollar office economy markers steve levine has the story
00:06:02.760 and it appears that the office warriors throughout america fuel an economy of blue collar workers who
00:06:09.520 work at coffee shops who shine shoes who are in strip malls who are in sandwich shops and also in the
00:06:17.660 hotel and airline industry and so with the office warriors becoming daytime zoomers with less travel and
00:06:25.740 fewer of those office lunches you do see a trickle down impact on other elements of the economy
00:06:32.720 and and we're seeing that a lot of places are simply having to reinvent themselves as a consequence it's a
00:06:38.620 it's a fascinating story and obviously change creates the opportunity for innovation but it also
00:06:44.860 displaces people and here there is substantial displacement among those who serve a lot of the
00:06:51.060 white collar workers who would typically congregate in offices office facilities and then who engaged in
00:06:56.720 extensive travel so with the changes we'll see how we adjust i don't know that we're going back to like
00:07:03.820 the full regular office setting that we were at pre-covid i think that more and more lifestyles have adapted to
00:07:11.320 kind of the zoom be anywhere wi-fi into work approach i know that in a lot of places there are some subset of workers who are
00:07:20.260 more productive in that type of environment so that'll result in in these changes to ancillary areas of the economy and
00:07:27.820 and we'll have to innovate to grow and be even better
00:07:31.620 no asylum for you that's what our neighbor to the north canada has conveyed to kim jong-il's former bodyguard
00:07:43.080 if canada returns me there i'm a dead man says the ex-bodyguard to the north korean dictator
00:07:49.880 but the situation is bleak lee young guck is the individual who was the bodyguard for the former
00:07:57.460 dictator of north korea and apparently the reason that canada is not going to extend him asylum
00:08:03.340 is that he was involved in the brutality of the regime and in fact throughout the asylum and court proceedings
00:08:09.700 he admits to disposing of 300 bodies and so uh canada might not be so welcoming for this potential
00:08:18.600 asylum seeker and so if he's deported chances are he will be killed but gosh when you've got somebody
00:08:26.660 who was arguably so involved in the killing and in the brutality and in the maintenance of such a
00:08:34.280 regime of death in north korea it's hard to extend them the grace of asylum we'll continue to follow the
00:08:40.000 story but no good life later for the former body cards of some of these despots and dictators
00:08:47.360 maybe that's the right message to send to the world
00:08:50.660 marijuana moments kyle yeager has the story mitch mcconnell pretends to support hemp farmers
00:09:01.340 democratic challenger claims in ad take a listen to the 30 second television advertisement
00:09:06.880 from amy mcgrath the democratic challenger to mitch mcconnell i'm amy mcgrath and i approve this message
00:09:13.640 mitch mcconnell pretends to be a friend of hemp farmers he praised industry giant jen canna for
00:09:20.220 its pioneering work but jen canna stiffed hemp farmers millions of dollars and when washington's
00:09:26.780 bureaucratic paralysis was killing hemp farms uh honestly i'm not on top of the latest on that
00:09:36.080 mitch mcconnell letting him dry up now i play this not to litigate the ad war in a kentucky u.s senate
00:09:45.200 race but instead to mark the moment in time that right now in politics in a deep red state the way
00:09:54.020 that a democrat believes that she can potentially eat into the support of mitch mcconnell is to make
00:10:00.700 the case on hemp to make the case on cannabis and i think that's really relevant because mcconnell's
00:10:08.640 been a pretty pro hemp guy i mean he's the one who got hemp into the farm bill it's one of the reasons
00:10:15.440 why you see so many cbd products readily available now i probably would have done it a little differently
00:10:21.240 i would have led with medical before i led with retail even on cbd but we certainly are in a different
00:10:29.440 time today than we were you know four six eight years ago in the politics of cannabis reform hemp
00:10:36.780 reform marijuana reform and i think that the more we can have a discussion of the issue through our
00:10:42.960 campaigns the better because when we only rely on the failed dogmas of a government that has largely
00:10:50.720 lied to the american people about cannabis we don't really advance our understanding and so it'll be
00:10:57.660 interesting to see how the u.s senate campaign plays out i hope there's a lot of discussion to enrich
00:11:03.680 the national conversation on cannabis reform and i hope we get something done for the sake of patients
00:11:09.760 who've been able to live better lives and for americans who value this freedom as something that
00:11:17.180 their state may appreciate that they may appreciate and that the federal government has obviously proven
00:11:23.500 that it's incapable of maintaining a credible argument on so interesting advertisement we'll continue to
00:11:30.860 see how the debate unfolds usa today has the story florida governor ron de santis reopening south florida
00:11:41.360 restaurants and even casinos so talk about gambling i mean i i don't know that i would go to a casino
00:11:49.020 when you think about how many folks are touching the die touching the machines touching the casino chips
00:11:56.380 it just seems like uh like an opportunity for folks to spread the virus but nonetheless the governor saying
00:12:02.320 we are not going back into the world of lockdowns and people can make their own choice and hey while
00:12:08.620 i wouldn't go into a casino i got no problem if other folks choose to make that decision and if that's
00:12:14.640 something that uh that they'd like to do i don't know whose mental health really gets better going
00:12:19.600 to a casino but if there are those for whom that's the case i wish them all the best i wish them good
00:12:26.480 luck at the tables uh and i do think it is a step in the right direction for restaurants in florida to
00:12:32.740 be reopening there are just a lot of people who rely on that for income in a state where we're typically
00:12:38.940 used to a hundred to a hundred and eight million visitors a year i had the occasion recently to
00:12:45.980 visit with some of our local tourism development officials in the florida panhandle they say we're
00:12:51.900 off you know thirty uh five percent and that's really the margin plus a little bit for a lot of businesses
00:13:01.440 in vacation rentals um in a lot of the tourism service industry and so we'd like to see those
00:13:09.980 restaurants open we'd like to see folks coming to florida again i think there's a way with a lot
00:13:16.520 of the different innovations from qr codes instead of menus to hand washing stations to dividers between
00:13:23.260 diners and to try to keep restaurants safe and also to keep our people prosperous
00:13:29.380 we are always looking for good america first legislation to join in sponsoring i want to
00:13:39.120 highlight some good work by my colleague congressman lance gooden he sponsored the rare act
00:13:45.220 and the rare act creates all the right incentives to bring back the development of rare earth materials
00:13:52.280 to the united states because a lot of that's going on in china so whether it's tax deductions or grant
00:13:58.440 programs we're going to do all we can in the rare act to have more of the rare earth minerals that we
00:14:05.020 need to have developed extracted here in the united states and if we do that we become more resilient
00:14:11.480 we become less dependent on china and i think we're ultimately positioning for a realistic
00:14:18.680 confrontation that we're likely to have with that country so i think that the more we can
00:14:24.120 re-domesticate the critical stuff that we need whether it's rare earth materials or health care
00:14:31.060 supplies or it all the better congratulations congressman gooden on this great america first bill
00:14:39.440 amazon's drone delivery fleet hits milestone with faa clearance bloomberg's alan levin has the story
00:14:50.000 and the retail giant amazon now has obtained certification from the u.s government to operate as a drone airline
00:14:59.740 they are clearly positioning for this this delivery through the air without people having to be
00:15:07.940 involved in that process and it's interesting to see that their expectations continue to be met
00:15:14.600 with this uh with this development and the u.s government now giving them the airline emperor
00:15:21.460 mater seal of approval and so it may be even sooner than you think that your packages are arriving
00:15:28.080 via robot drone
00:15:29.760 president trump in wilmington north carolina paying tribute to the city's world war ii heritage
00:15:38.600 take a listen this afternoon my administration is formally recognizing the city's exceptional
00:15:44.320 contributions to victory in the second world war it is my tremendous honor to officially designate
00:15:53.160 wilmington north carolina as our nation's very first world war ii heritage city that's a big deal
00:16:01.560 our nation's very first wilmington congratulations to you all
00:16:06.040 yesterday i joined dr sebastian gorka on the salem radio network here's a listen in to that discussion
00:16:16.440 okay let's talk about some really disturbing stuff so muriel bowser the the furor of dc a city that
00:16:23.260 voted 93 93 for hillary clinton has just released the findings of her monuments committee
00:16:31.600 uh and i i they may not believe me uh congressman gates what is the mayor of dc recommending about
00:16:40.520 historic figures and monuments like the washington monument they are recommending that we either
00:16:45.840 replace or shame washington madison jefferson andrew jackson benjamin franklin these individuals who's
00:16:56.240 sacrificed sacrificed to our country carved out a nation they had the values and principles that
00:17:02.240 created the most inclusive democracy that has ever been known to man and one of the things we know dr
00:17:08.160 gorka is that we have to strive to be a more perfect union even when we are imperfect ourselves you know if
00:17:14.960 if mariel bowser thinks that jefferson and madison were such bad folks look at the current congress we got
00:17:21.840 plenty of people who make mistakes uh heck i make mistakes but in the context of the times these men
00:17:28.800 were great visionaries they were patriots and i believe that mariel bowser and her allies in the
00:17:35.440 radical left want to shame our history and abolish our history because they want to replace our country
00:17:42.080 with something that is very different than america they have embraced this black lives matter movement
00:17:47.680 that is explicitly marxist and that's not to say that every human being who believes that black
00:17:52.800 lives matter you know doesn't uh isn't a marxist but the organization the the animated uh experience
00:18:00.800 in these black lives matter protests call for the death of members of congress the abolition of our
00:18:07.520 borders and our prison system and our military it is it is really dangerous stuff and we cannot just view
00:18:14.720 this as symbolism we need to take a stand if if necessary dr gorka i'll go out there and stand
00:18:20.400 on the jefferson memorial before i will let them tear uh jefferson down thanks so much for listening to
00:18:26.160 today's episode of hot takes i'm congressman matt gates give us a five-star rating leave us a review
00:18:32.000 let us know what you'd like to hear on the show and make sure to tune in tomorrow for more hot takes
00:18:44.720 okay
00:18:57.360 you
