00:00:00.000 You ever watch this guy on television?
00:00:03.820 You all were not telling the truth, and you should not be trusted.
00:00:06.540 Congressman Matt Gaetz, thank you for what you did for your country tonight.
00:00:09.280 Be offended with the Democratic whip, not House of Republicans.
00:00:12.240 Like a machine, Matt Gaetz.
00:00:16.160 Welcome to Hot Takes. I'm Congressman Matt Gaetz.
00:00:18.980 Let's talk about the news.
00:00:20.700 It's debate day.
00:00:22.320 That's right, Joe Biden and Donald Trump in the long-anticipated matchup.
00:00:26.000 This might be the most-watched debate in American history, certainly one of the most anticipated.
00:00:32.580 Joe Biden, I think, in this debate has a lot to prove, a lot to gain.
00:00:37.400 So does the president.
00:00:38.620 I'm going to break down what I think each is trying to do.
00:00:41.240 Let's start with the president.
00:00:42.780 The president needs to show command, strong leader.
00:00:46.380 That's going to be the analysis afterwards.
00:00:48.760 Did he appear to be in a better position to lead the country through a recovery,
00:00:52.900 to finish the response to the coronavirus,
00:00:56.920 to respond to the discord and riots and mob rule on the streets?
00:01:02.000 If he appears in a way that enhances his strong leader rating,
00:01:07.080 the president has prevailed in the debate.
00:01:09.920 He has met his objective.
00:01:11.960 Turn to Joe Biden.
00:01:13.040 His objective is to get through the debate.
00:01:14.760 I suspect Joe Biden will be looking for every opportunity to get interrupted by the president,
00:01:22.300 by the moderator, Chris Wallace, who is known to put his stamp on a debate,
00:01:26.660 which is not necessarily a good thing because it should be about the candidates, not the moderator.
00:01:30.800 But Joe Biden will be looking to avoid what I think is the greatest challenge that he faces when he speaks,
00:01:36.440 and that's completing a thought, a paragraph, or a sentence.
00:01:39.920 If Joe Biden finishes the debate standing, his team will undeniably take credit.
00:01:45.360 They will declare victory with anything other than a sort of sputtering and puttering conclusion to Joe Biden's presentations.
00:01:53.860 And I think that's where the president needs to ensure that he gives Joe Biden sufficient time,
00:01:59.460 sufficient rope, one might say, to tangle himself up and ensnare himself in his own thoughts and concepts.
00:02:06.180 The topics for the debate essentially are the universe.
00:02:10.580 I mean, the records of the candidates, the response to coronavirus,
00:02:14.960 dealing with the mob rule and racial discord that the country is currently encountering.
00:02:19.680 And so I don't suspect there will be a whole lot of focus.
00:02:22.500 I expect the candidates will be jabbing each other a good amount.
00:02:25.440 And there's not really a live audience the way we would normally anticipate.
00:02:29.960 And so the, you know, hems and haws and laughters and cheers and jeers from the audience unlikely to be a critical element that we see here.
00:02:38.180 Another thing we'll miss from typical debates is the spin room.
00:02:41.400 I've gone for presidential and gubernatorial debates before to advocate for my preferred candidate's position following a debate.
00:02:48.860 I've been there when it's been easy to do because your candidate does really well.
00:02:52.500 And I've been there when it is difficult to do because they don't do well.
00:02:56.080 And here that spin will largely be occurring in Twitter sphere and throughout social media and digital media
00:03:04.280 because there's not that great assembly of energy that we're typically used to.
00:03:08.960 So it should be an exciting first debate.
00:03:11.280 I look forward to it.
00:03:12.580 We'll be back tomorrow with even more updates, highlights, and analysis of what should be a pretty special encounter.
00:03:20.320 We'll be back tomorrow.
00:03:50.320 They have sought a break every 30 minutes for the candidate, clearly, you know, demonstrating, I think,
00:03:57.920 a lack of mental rigor that the Biden campaign is worried about regarding their candidate and no agreement from the Trump campaign on those breaks.
00:04:06.260 So while both sides seem to be arguing for specific things to ensure that the debate is consistent with the standards of the candidates,
00:04:13.720 I think it's also recognizable to note that you didn't see a whole lot of agreement on those terms.
00:04:20.740 The number one question I get as I travel the country interacting with Americans and airports and restaurants and on the street is
00:04:31.860 one of the folks going to jail who set up the president.
00:04:35.480 And we've talked about that a lot on the podcast.
00:04:37.060 But the number two question I get is, how'd you lose all that weight?
00:04:41.740 That's right.
00:04:42.180 I used to clock in at a smooth 230, now down to about a buck 80.
00:04:47.800 And I attribute a great deal of that weight loss success to intermittent fasting.
00:04:53.680 But there's a new report out from CNBC.
00:04:56.500 Intermittent fasting doesn't help you lose weight, UCSF study suggests.
00:05:01.860 It's from Christina Farr.
00:05:03.900 Intermittent fasting, which is eating in a restricted window of time, is a popular health fad.
00:05:10.020 But studies have preliminarily been conducted on mice, not people.
00:05:17.360 And in this 12-week study of 116 overweight people, they found no statistically significant difference in weight loss
00:05:24.040 between people who restricted their eating to a specific eight-hour period of time compared to those who don't.
00:05:30.140 The study comes from Dr. Ethan Weiss, a cardiologist at the University of California, San Francisco.
00:05:36.920 I don't know, Dr. Weiss.
00:05:38.140 It worked for me.
00:05:38.880 Maybe it was just that the intermittent fasting aligned well with some other good health choices.
00:05:44.060 But I typically don't eat until about 2 o'clock each day.
00:05:48.340 And after you've fasted for a substantial period of time, you're sort of incentivized to eat a little healthier.
00:05:54.180 Because you figure, well, I've made this commitment and this sacrifice thus far.
00:05:58.160 So don't give it away with the 230 cheeseburger.
00:06:01.640 I don't know.
00:06:02.360 We'll see.
00:06:03.260 Sure has worked for me.
00:06:04.480 Hope it works for other Americans.
00:06:06.280 Dr. Weiss says be skeptical.
00:06:08.880 The leader of Kuwait has died.
00:06:13.800 The report comes from Citizen Free Press.
00:06:17.020 The ruler passed away at age 91.
00:06:19.620 According to Kuwait State Television, I'll probably butcher his name, but it's Sheikh Shabbat al-Almad al-Sabah.
00:06:27.960 Kuwait has been a longtime ally of the United States.
00:06:30.800 Of course, the first Gulf War was a consequence of the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait.
00:06:37.180 Kuwaiti State Television pronouncing,
00:06:39.520 It is with great sadness and sorrow that we mourn to the Kuwaiti people, the Arab and Islamic nations, and the friendly peoples of the world,
00:06:48.220 the death of the late His Highness Sheikh Shabbat al-Almad al-Jabbar al-Sabah,
00:06:54.580 emir of the state of Kuwait, who moved next to his lord.
00:06:58.740 State Television announced the death after playing a series of prayers.
00:07:02.680 News of his death comes two months after the ruler was flown to the United States in U.S. Air Force C-17,
00:07:09.860 just days after ongoing an unspecified surgery at his home.
00:07:14.640 We hope that the relationship between the United States and Kuwait will endure any one leader,
00:07:21.460 any one generation of leaders.
00:07:23.500 More friends makes for a safer world.
00:07:25.840 Certainly, Kuwait has been a friend.
00:07:27.460 Because we have the Trump-Biden debate tonight,
00:07:34.880 I thought we'd have a segment here just with some of the highlights and greatest hits from the Trump-Clinton debates.
00:07:42.280 Boy, they were epic.
00:07:43.420 Boy, they had some sharp barbs.
00:07:45.420 Listen to this and see if it gets you in the mood for tonight's presidential debate.
00:07:48.780 Our jobs are being taken out by the deal that her husband signed, NAFTA, one of the worst deals ever.
00:07:53.780 Our jobs are being sucked out of our economy.
00:07:55.940 I am a very strong supporter of the Second Amendment.
00:07:59.260 We are going to appoint justices that will feel very strongly about the Second Amendment,
00:08:04.800 that will not do damage.
00:08:06.200 I have a feeling that by the end of this evening, I'm going to be blamed for everything that's ever happened.
00:08:10.480 Why not?
00:08:10.880 I will release my tax returns when she releases her 33,000 emails that have been deleted.
00:08:20.720 As soon as she releases them, I will release.
00:08:24.180 I will release.
00:08:25.700 I'm not going to make any excuses.
00:08:27.240 It was a mistake, and I take responsibility for that.
00:08:30.100 Okay, that was not a mistake.
00:08:31.160 That was done purposely.
00:08:32.440 I think it's disgraceful.
00:08:34.020 And believe me, this country thinks it's disgraceful.
00:08:36.760 It really thinks it's disgraceful also.
00:08:38.720 It's just awfully good that someone with the temperament of Donald Trump is not in charge of the law in our country.
00:08:45.700 Because you'd be in jail.
00:08:47.280 Secretary Clinton.
00:08:54.560 This report from investigative journalist Sarah Carter at sarahcarter.com.
00:09:00.500 Riot fund promoted by Kamala Harris helped bail out child predator.
00:09:04.880 Why hasn't she been forced to explain her support for this fund?
00:09:08.720 A recent Daily Caller News Foundation investigation discovered that a bail fund promoted by Senator Kamala Harris actually bail out a man accused of sexually assaulting an eight-year-old girl.
00:09:19.420 The bail fund, known as the Minnesota Freedom Fund, allowed the child predator to get out of jail in July, according to the documents that were uncovered by the Daily Caller News Foundation.
00:09:29.280 The Minnesota Freedom Fund was touted by Harris, along with other Democratic supporters and celebrities, as a means of supporting rioters that destroyed the city of Minneapolis following the tragic killing of George Floyd.
00:09:41.420 So, this is yet another thing that hasn't been explained by Kamala Harris.
00:09:48.380 And if you look at a lot of these funds that have been created, they're being supported by corporate America.
00:09:54.080 They're being supported by Hollywood.
00:09:56.340 And the result is less safety in our communities.
00:10:00.060 By one means, that safety is eroded because there is a diminished deterrent to the rioting.
00:10:08.240 You know, if you go out and break through a Nike store and walk out with some Mayor Jordans, that you're less likely to face consequences if Hollywood and corporate America have set up this fund to provide for your release.
00:10:22.440 And similarly, if those funds are resulting in folks getting out of jail or prison who might otherwise need to be there, that also contributes to eroding safety.
00:10:34.300 And it creates this compounding effect when you have law enforcement officials, prosecutors in some of these jurisdictions saying if people spit on police, if they harm police, if they assault police, that'll just be viewed as political speech.
00:10:47.080 It won't be viewed as the assault or criminal activity that it is.
00:10:51.480 I think that we need to support our police and our law enforcement.
00:10:56.260 I think we need to stand up to the corporate left and the political left as they do damage to America.
00:11:05.680 Yesterday, we covered the Project Veritas investigative journalism showing extensive ballot harvesting and election fraud in the state of Minnesota.
00:11:16.600 Minnesota is a swing state.
00:11:18.180 The president only just lost Minnesota in 2016.
00:11:22.080 And he believes that the effect of these riots and the eroding civil society fanned and fueled and endorsed by a lot of the left wing political leaders in Minnesota will cause folks to vote Republican and vote for the president.
00:11:38.340 And so there is an effort on both sides to really hunker down in Minnesota politically.
00:11:44.600 And for the president, that's meant a lot of stops and visits to the state, a lot of visits from members of the first family.
00:11:50.620 But for the left, it is meant utilizing the ballot deployment system to try to manufacture votes that were not lawfully cast.
00:11:59.980 Check out the episode that we've done previously on Project Veritas to get that information.
00:12:05.680 But the new update, according to the Daily Wire, is that Tulsi Gabbard has joined the calls to end this ballot harvesting.
00:12:13.360 Tulsi Gabbard has largely been shunned by the Democratic Party as a consequence of her more right-leaning social views.
00:12:22.120 She crosses party lines often to vote with Republicans on foreign policy issues at times.
00:12:27.800 I've worked with Congresswoman Gabbard and, matter of fact, have an upcoming project with her we'll be reporting on tomorrow.
00:12:34.860 But her willingness to speak truth to power in the Democratic Party is certainly admirable.
00:12:40.420 And even when you have a Democrat who is a presidential candidate who is very critical of Donald Trump saying,
00:12:46.240 this is wrong, this is illegal, I think there's an obligation to listen and to respond.
00:12:52.060 And it's certainly my hope that the Department of Justice is looking into this information collected by Project Veritas
00:12:59.260 that seems to evidence the commission of crimes.
00:13:01.800 Yesterday, I joined the Secretary of Agriculture, Sonny Perdue, in Jay, Florida.
00:13:11.740 He and I held a town hall meeting with farmers who are still recovering from Hurricane Sally.
00:13:16.240 I want to give an update to the folks back home in northwest Florida that we expect Santa Rosa County to receive a disaster declaration today.
00:13:24.900 And I'm working very closely with the White House for the Panhandle to be eligible for individual assistance.
00:13:31.320 For people who are impacted by the flooding and damage and destruction of Hurricane Sally, I've gotten nothing but positive feedback from the White House.
00:13:39.380 There's a little bit of paperwork that they've still got to get through FEMA.
00:13:43.640 It's a little bit more difficult because in water events and flooding events, the damage is not as evident as it is in windstorm events.
00:13:51.760 You've got to get in houses, look at water lines, designate certain neighborhoods for the type of major disaster, harm, loss.
00:14:01.320 And that would justify individual assistance in the Panhandle counties impacted by Hurricane Sally.
00:14:06.780 So again, working closely with the White House should have more updates, but got great feedback from some of our farmers.
00:14:13.160 Not only how we can be helpful responding in the disaster phase of this, but also how the president's trade policies can put America first and can allow our farmers to be successful.
00:14:26.460 Tariff payments have been made to farmers.
00:14:28.260 I heard from a number of them that the president's policies of taking these tariffs and utilizing it to help farmers has been very consequential, has allowed folks to stay in their family farms.
00:14:37.480 And I support that decision by the president because our great patriotic farmers have been targeted by China and they deserve the full support of our country because food security is national security.
00:14:49.120 You know, in this last pandemic, availability of protective equipment, vaccines, supplies, tests, all of that really was shown to be far too offshored in our nation.
00:15:01.600 Imagine if the same happened with food, imagine if for some reason the food supply chain was impacted, we sure would be grateful for any of the programs that supported American farming and that ensured that we could grow food to support our population.
00:15:16.860 So I support the farmers. I support the policies that ensure that we're able to maintain diversity of crop, strong supply chain response from disaster and some sense of predictability for those who are out there planting and growing and harvesting.
00:15:33.860 America's farmers are great patriots. I know the Trump administration stands behind them. And so do I.
00:15:38.980 Thanks for listening to hot takes. I'm Congressman Matt Gaetz. Today we were recording on the road, so I apologize for the sound quality.
00:15:47.580 That's just part of the deal sometimes with a daily podcast and certainly wanted to give everyone the chance to listen before we have tonight's exciting presidential debate.
00:15:56.680 So enjoy. Join us tomorrow because we're going to break it down and have the analysis and make sure you subscribe so you don't miss any hot takes.
00:16:08.980 We'll see you next time.
