00:01:10.680 The Anthony
00:01:11.760 Cumia Show, and
00:01:12.960 it's Memorial Day,
00:01:14.880 and we're going to go through
00:01:17.040 the top movies.
00:01:19.020 Top movies that people watch
00:01:21.040 during Memorial Day weekend.
00:01:23.660 My big radio top 10 bit that I'm breaking out.
00:01:27.760 Kyle from Virginia has something to say about that.
00:01:30.580 Kyle, what's up?
00:01:32.420 Yeah, I was wondering if you were going to do the top 10 gyms next.
00:01:38.320 Old friend of yours, Scorch, if you remember him.
00:01:42.240 Scorch.
00:01:43.080 Scorch also used to do douche or dressing.
00:01:46.020 I'm going to name something.
00:01:47.740 Oil and vinegar.
00:01:48.860 You have to tell me if it's douche or dressing.
00:01:51.200 Brilliant.
00:01:51.460 What's the color of the day there, Ant?
00:01:54.560 Color of the day is blue today.
00:01:57.140 If you're wearing something blue, send me a picture of yourself.
00:02:00.180 We'll go to the prize closet.
00:02:01.980 Thank you, Kyle.
00:02:05.020 See, people that know me over the course of the years know I despise radio things,
00:02:10.920 like the hacky old-school bits that they would do.
00:02:17.140 War of the Roses.
00:02:18.940 We're going to have this gentleman give roses to his sweetheart.
00:02:22.840 He's married.
00:02:23.460 We have his wife on the phone.
00:02:24.800 But who is he going to give the roses to? 0.68
00:02:27.500 And then he picks a different girl than his wife,
00:02:30.320 and his wife comes on and they argue.
00:02:32.400 It's totally fake.
00:02:34.020 It's totally fake.
00:02:36.340 But, boy, they're still getting mileage out of that,
00:02:39.900 some of those morning zoo-type shows.
00:02:42.940 Still getting mileage from it.
00:02:45.800 So I don't normally do it, but it's Memorial Day.
00:02:49.540 People watch movies.
00:02:50.680 I was just talking about how awesome Band of Brothers was.
00:02:54.300 That's in a category all its own.
00:02:56.020 But the top movies, number 10, American Sniper.
00:03:00.460 That's right, 2014.
00:03:01.340 Clint Eastwood, a biography of a Navy SEAL, Chris Kyle.
00:03:05.000 I met Chris Kyle.
00:03:07.080 He signed my .50 Cal magazine for my Barrett rifle,
00:03:11.760 obviously before somebody decided to take him out at a rifle range.
00:03:19.080 You know what that one is.
00:03:20.240 Platoon is number nine, coming in at number nine, Platoon.
00:03:23.760 That's a great movie.
00:03:25.600 That really is.
00:03:26.440 There are some things that you watch, and it's a little dated.
00:03:30.040 Charlie Sheen, he's got, like, hair.
00:03:33.840 I don't know why he's got 80s hair in it, but just great.
00:03:38.960 A great, fun movie to watch.
00:03:41.020 sergeant barnes is amazing and uh elias uh that's great 1998 thin red line coming in at number eight
00:03:49.980 uh guadalcanal world war ii movie i think sean penn's in that one uh going back to 1970 going
00:04:00.160 back to the 70s a classic rock movie uh patten george c scott that one's great some of the old
00:04:08.480 movies especially uh during the 90s and 2000s they really started coming out with some very
00:04:14.720 realistic and graphic uh filmmaking when it came to war movies so watching pat you'll laugh a
00:04:22.880 little at watching the the germans die whenever they get shot they they put both hands on where
00:04:29.740 the bullet went and they arch their backs backwards and fall down and spread their arms 0.85
00:04:36.700 out on the ground that's how every single german died in world war ii um if you uh watch these old
00:04:44.680 war movies from the 60s and 70s uh number six full metal jacket 1987 that one was of course
00:04:56.300 not a typical war movie there's not a lot of war in it it's more of a study of the uh soldiers the
00:05:07.320 characters obviously the first half of the movie taking place um at boot camp is uh better than
00:05:15.020 the rest of the movie a lot of people say that better than the entire uh rest of the movie is
00:05:21.360 just that beginning part with arlie ermy and private pile all right we're halfway through
00:05:29.140 halfway through now if i was a real radio hacky guy i would i would wait and i'd go to a break
00:05:39.480 and i tease that well the second half of the list is coming up
00:05:43.760 oh god did i despise that stuff maybe i should hit the phones
00:05:50.040 no i'm not going to do that to you guys uh number five uh we were soldiers
00:05:57.700 based on the first major battle of the vietnam war ladrang valley mel gibson of course starring
00:06:03.980 as uh colonel moore in a gripping story of leadership loss and the families left behind
00:06:10.060 that was pretty good mel gibson uh always turns in a stellar performance number four
00:06:19.000 Black Hawk Down
00:06:21.420 you can see the live version
00:06:23.960 in Minneapolis, Minnesota now
00:06:26.200 just go to Minneapolis
00:06:27.720 anywhere, drop in anywhere
00:06:29.980 and you'll feel like
00:06:31.860 you were in the Moog
00:06:32.940 with the Black Hawk Down guys
00:06:35.500 Ridley Scott, so you know
00:06:37.720 it looks great
00:06:38.780 intense action, yup
00:06:41.340 that movie is action packed
00:06:43.940 great characters, great acting
00:06:46.040 and the war
00:06:47.920 footage the battle footage i don't know ridley's great at doing stuff like that um this is obviously
00:06:54.840 the 1993 battle of mogadishu and uh just a great movie re-watchability factor uh it's it's
00:07:03.420 fantastic that's from uh 2001 uh now we're really going to go back uh 1989's glory going back to
00:07:12.960 The Civil War, a powerful Civil War drama,
00:07:16.700 the first all-black volunteer regiment in the Union Army.
00:07:20.140 This one starred Denzel Washington and Matthew Broderick.
00:07:23.760 This was a little weird, and Matthew Broderick pulled it off,
00:07:28.000 but this wasn't very long after Ferris Bueller's day off.
00:07:33.480 And you talk about things like typecasting
00:07:35.600 and what people are willing to believe.
00:07:39.380 That was a little, that was rough.
00:07:41.780 Denzel, of course, again, another one that always turns in a stellar performance.
00:07:46.260 But Matthew Broderick kind of overcame the Ferris Bueller.
00:07:51.240 It was like Ferris Bueller goes to the Civil War.
00:07:53.520 That would have really turned off a lot of people.
00:07:55.820 But it turns out the kid could act.
00:07:58.160 The kid gets that picture.
00:08:00.560 There was another movie.
00:08:02.360 Which one was it?
00:08:03.220 Was it the Thin Red Line that I talked about with Sean Penn?
00:08:06.820 And Michael J. Fox was in it?
00:08:08.440 i think michael j fox was in one of these war movies and that kind of took you out because
00:08:14.480 michael j fox it was very difficult for him to go to a drama to dramatic kind of a war movie like
00:08:23.100 that uh i don't know why you know he's a good good little actor at the time but uh it did it
00:08:29.820 didn't work and and one of the one of the parts of band of brothers that took me out of it uh
00:08:37.820 because because the acting was amazing in band of brothers but jimmy fallon was in it they gave
00:08:48.660 jimmy fallon a little part where he drives a jeep up into um it was the battle of the bulge
00:08:54.560 the ardennes forest he's like hey guys you need anyone need some ammo and you're like oh it's
00:09:01.600 Jimmy Fallon, you just totally ripped me out of the movie.
00:09:07.400 So, yeah, Ferris Bueller in the Civil War.
00:09:10.300 It worked, though.
00:09:11.020 Glory was good.
00:09:12.340 Another Mel Gibson movie comes up at number two, Hacksaw Ridge.
00:09:17.400 This one was great.
00:09:18.480 A medic who didn't want to fight, and it turns out he saved a bunch of people
00:09:26.780 without firing a shot, Hacksaw Ridge.
00:09:30.380 and uh number one the number one movie you got to say it like this and the number one movie that
00:09:37.300 is watched during memorial day weekend war movies coming in at number one from 1998
00:09:47.520 steven spielberg saving private ryan that's right people and i have a bunch of sound effects
00:09:56.000 and drums that play, and that would be my radio bit
00:10:00.480 if I was going to do it right now.
00:10:02.820 Yeah, Saving Private Ryan.
00:10:05.200 Steven Spielberg's masterpiece follows a squad of U.S. soldiers
00:10:08.280 searching for a paratrooper behind enemy lines after D-Day.
00:10:12.380 The opening beach scene is one of the most realistic
00:10:14.240 and harrowing depictions of war ever filmed.
00:10:16.960 And, of course, the great Tom Hanks,
00:10:20.040 who also is a fantastic actor.
00:10:23.580 Yeah, that opening sequence to this day is brutal.
00:10:28.060 And then the scene where the Nazi, the German soldier puts the dagger
00:10:34.140 into the Jewish American soldier's chest in the building.
00:10:38.820 It is so brutal.
00:10:42.120 So that one coming in at number one, there's your list.
00:10:45.300 Pick one, watch it, and enjoy your weekend.
00:10:48.420 Back in moments, where the hell do you think you're going?
