00:00:00.000 After 35 years, the future of Disney's Gay Days looks grim.
00:00:04.540 The group that organizes the event announced that shifting hotel agreements and the loss of key sponsors forced it to cancel the celebration in 2026.
00:00:13.340 Organizers still urge gay fans to visit the parks on the usual dates and wear themed attire, but the coordinated celebration appears headed for Quiet Inn.
00:00:22.300 Whatever happens next, one point matters.
00:00:24.620 Evangelical Christians tried to cancel Gay Days with an on-again, off-again boycott for decades.
00:00:31.360 What finally wounded the LGBTQ Leviathan wasn't conservative activism, it was cultural apathy. 0.68
00:00:37.720 I remember the first wave of evangelical pushback as Disney began signaling support for homosexual lifestyles in the 1990s.
00:00:46.220 Conservatives already watched pop culture coarsen through music, movies, and video games,
00:00:51.820 yet they still treated Disney as a family-friendly institution aimed at children.
00:00:56.700 That's why it shocked them to see the company behind Snow White and Cinderella host celebrations of homosexuality and extend benefits to same-sex partners 1.00
00:01:05.000 long before the Supreme Court imposed gay marriage on the country.
00:01:09.560 Evangelical denominations answered with a strangely inconsistent boycott.
00:01:14.420 One year, the Southern Baptist Convention urged members to avoid Disney.
00:01:17.780 The next year, churches were showing up to the Night of Joy, Disney's Christian music festival.
00:01:23.640 When Gay Days began in 1991, gay marriage remained deeply unpopular.
00:01:29.160 The TV show Will and Grace hadn't worked its magic on the popular imagination,
00:01:33.580 and politicians such as Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton still felt compelled to posture as defenders of traditional marriage as late as 2008.
00:01:42.280 If any moment favored a decisive cultural rebuke, that was it.
00:01:46.420 Instead, Christians offered sloppy, intermittent resistance, while Disney only leaned in harder. 0.94
00:01:52.880 Disney's support for homosexuality moved from park celebrations and employee benefits into its entertainment.
00:01:59.720 Progressive messaging crept into television shows and movies until the woke revolution turned into a flood.
00:02:05.920 The Little Mermaid became black, gay couples were kissing in Star Wars, and diverse girlbosses dominated Marvel.
00:02:12.380 As acceptance of gay marriage shifted from taboo to required corporate orthodoxy, Disney replaced entertainment with propaganda.
00:02:21.040 The company then collided with Governor Ron DeSantis after Florida moved to restrict the mutilation of children
00:02:27.180 and limit the amount of LGBTQ messaging pumped into public schools.
00:02:31.720 Legislation that the press laughably branded the Don't Say Gay Bill sent leftists into a panic.
00:02:37.560 Executives called emergency meetings, and rumors flew that Disney would pull up stakes and flee the Sunshine State.
00:02:45.480 Blaze TV host Christopher Rufo helped surface video of a corporate meeting where Disney executive LaToya Revena announced her,
00:02:53.700 well, as she described it, not at all secret gay agenda to inject LGBTQ themes into kids' shows.
00:03:00.780 Disney embraced the agenda early, worked to make it dominant, and especially among children.
00:03:07.140 The whole time, they refused to slow down once the woke revolution reached full speed.
00:03:12.740 So why did gay days suddenly fall apart now? 1.00
00:03:16.080 Well, apathy.
00:03:17.680 Apathy doesn't mean that Americans suddenly disapproved of Disney's agenda, sadly.
00:03:22.320 It just means that normal people stopped granting it the honor of a fight.
00:03:25.580 Many families quit watching new releases, not as part of a coordinated boycott, but because the product became preachy, weird, and dull.
00:03:34.400 Others kept their subscriptions, but tuned out of the messaging and rolled their eyes.
00:03:38.540 Either way, the ritualized drama lost its electricity.
00:03:42.260 Corporate sponsors follow attention, and attention follows the next outrage.
00:03:46.760 A movement built on being shocking can't survive once it becomes background noise.
00:03:51.420 When every kid's show feels like a lecture, even sympathetic viewers start craving something else.
00:03:59.380 Gay days didn't collapse because Christians perfected some kind of strategy. 0.99
00:04:04.080 It collapsed because the culture stopped caring enough to show up or even cheer.
00:04:09.320 Apathy isn't victory, but it can starve out a movement faster than a protest.
00:04:14.780 Popular political movements need cultural momentum, and progressive movements feed on transgression.
00:04:21.420 Leftists want to feel like they're fighting the stuffy pastor and footloose.
00:04:25.540 Take that, John Lithgow.
00:04:27.320 They want to feel cool, rebellious, and righteous.
00:04:30.320 Without that dialectic tension, progressivism just kind of loses velocity.
00:04:35.120 When activists fought the religious right, they enjoyed the perfect enemy. 0.83
00:04:39.680 Just enough moralizing to spark rebellion, but little chance of sustained effective opposition.
00:04:44.760 Conservatives could work up an outrage on television and even skip a holiday trip, but they were rarely going to sustain a boycott.
00:04:53.240 Republicans generally worshiped business and profits, so GOP politicians avoided pressure on true pain points like corporate sponsors and boardrooms.
00:05:02.420 Conservatives served as a political battery, supplying just enough resistance to keep the LGBTQ activists energized while imposing few costs.
00:05:11.640 Democrat operatives could not have engineered a better environment.
00:05:16.840 In The Prince, Machiavelli advises rulers to leave opponents alone or crush them entirely.
00:05:22.460 A complacent enemy might grumble, but they avoid taking risks.
00:05:26.300 A crushed enemy can't retaliate.
00:05:28.660 The most dangerous enemy is one that has suffered a minor bloodied.
00:05:32.380 He gains the motivation to fight and keeps the means to harm.
00:05:35.160 Conservatives gave the LGBTQ movement exactly that minor bloodying.
00:05:41.060 Outrage finger wagging, but never any real consequences.
00:05:45.340 No one lost a job for pushing gay agendas in the Disney parks, shows, or movies.
00:05:50.280 Corporate sponsors rarely withdrew.
00:05:52.900 Disney kept making money.
00:05:54.620 Republicans played the role of cartoonish but harmless foe, delivering speeches about family values while imposing no penalties.
00:06:01.700 The movement didn't lose because the right defeated it.
00:06:05.580 It lost because it exhausted its own cultural energy.
00:06:09.740 Even a strong boxer collapses after he punches himself out.
00:06:13.860 Gay marriage won so quickly and so thoroughly that activists carried the momentum into harder causes such as the trans movement.
00:06:22.280 Support, attention, and funding shifted to the new battlegrounds.
00:06:25.800 And the older, more boring causes like gay days, they just slid into irrelevance. 1.00
00:06:30.600 The lesson here is pretty simple.
00:06:33.780 If the right fights, it must pick battles carefully and commit fully to winning them.
00:06:39.320 Secure decisive victory in one arena instead of scattering resources across dozens of losers.
00:06:46.460 Choose targets because they anchor your enemy's strengths, not because they offer an easy headline.
00:06:52.220 If you fight, you must crush the enemy's capacity to operate.
00:06:57.380 Otherwise, you invigorate his cause while draining your own.
00:07:01.900 Clumsy half-measures feed your foe, and you end up hoping he defeats himself.
00:07:07.080 That's not a plan for a protracted culture war.
