00:00:27.100 Instacart. Groceries that over-deliver.

00:00:31.000 Anheuser-Busch executives have trapped themselves in a corporate hell of their own making,

00:00:35.480 and it's difficult not to enjoy the schottenfreude.

00:00:38.560 The company was stripped of its LGBTQ plus rating from the human rights campaign

00:00:43.460 after wavering ever so slightly in its support for the trans agenda.

00:00:48.240 The Corporate Equality Index, on which Anheuser-Busch has previously scored a perfect 100,

00:00:53.560 is used to blackmail corporations into compliance with the latest progressive political agenda.

00:00:58.300 With sales plummeting almost 25% since the company embraced Dylan Mulvaney as a spokesperson,

00:01:05.520 executives find themselves trapped between a boycott from their core market on one side

00:01:10.000 and a woke social revolution on the other.

00:01:12.340 Bud Light has appealed to Red America for decades by billing itself as the beer of the working man.

00:01:18.640 There's a reason that the beverage is regularly called out by name in country songs.

00:01:23.560 This has been the demographic Anheuser-Busch has always seen as its market.

00:01:27.160 But Red America is quickly becoming an unacceptable crowd to cater to. 1.00

00:01:32.460 The heartland is filled with the wrong kind of people, the ones that might attend church, 1.00

00:01:37.260 vote for Republicans, and oppose the mutilation of their children. 0.98

00:01:41.280 White, straight, Christian males are the most unclean of all the common folk, 1.00

00:01:45.920 and having them as your core customer base is seen as deeply shameful. 0.98

00:01:49.740 Previously, corporations were willing to hold their nose and sell beer to the plebs, 1.00

00:01:55.480 even though they hated them, because it made their shareholders rich.

00:01:59.340 But now the purchasing power of Red America is waning, 0.98

00:02:02.600 as the middle class is intentionally eroded and the culture war turns them into untouchables.

00:02:08.080 So like many corporations that used to farm conservatives for cash while despising them,

00:02:13.060 Bud Light saw the writing on the wall and knew it needed to shift its appeal.

00:02:16.720 Executives tried to shape the social norms of their current audience

00:02:21.520 while appealing to a more culturally desirable one.

00:02:25.360 To the surprise of many, however, events took an unexpected turn.

00:02:30.220 For decades, Red America has been pretty easy to manipulate and push towards progressive norms, 0.96

00:02:35.740 giving ground at almost every opportunity.

00:02:38.380 But conservatives have suddenly found their spine when it comes to the issue of radical gender ideology,

00:02:43.960 especially when it's pushed onto children.

00:02:46.720 I would like to believe that the ensuing boycott was related to the fact that the Dylan Mulvaney campaign

00:02:52.820 came on the heels of a transgender shooter murdering children at a Christian school,

00:02:58.120 but that might not be what actually resonated with the average Bud Light drinker. 0.93

00:03:03.280 It may have simply been the understandable disgust of seeing a twisted character of a woman 1.00

00:03:08.580 plastered on the familiar light blue beer can.

00:03:11.460 Either way, a boycott should have been no big deal.

00:03:15.800 Red America is notorious for declaring boycotts that have no effect and are quickly abandoned.

00:03:22.080 When I was a child, I distinctly remember conservatives declaring boycotts against companies like Disney

00:03:27.620 and Johnson & Johnson for their attacks on traditional values,

00:03:30.560 but they came and went with no substantive consequences.

00:03:34.260 This time, however, the boycott stuck and has done serious damage to Anheuser-Busch's bottom line,

00:03:41.700 sending their executives into a panic.

00:03:44.320 Many people tell you about the importance of rational arguments in the marketplace of ideas,

00:03:49.560 but in the realm of mass politics and culture war, memes are far more powerful.

00:03:54.120 I've made many carefully reasoned arguments in print and on video,

00:04:00.420 but the most influential thing I ever produced is a meme of a bus driver from The Simpsons tapping a sign.

00:04:07.320 When it comes to persuading the average person,

00:04:10.560 social pressure is far more effective than any rational analysis,

00:04:15.180 and as Bud Light became associated with the twisted female character of Dylan Mulvaney,

00:04:20.360 that's exactly what happened.

00:04:21.460 We hope you're enjoying your Air Canada flight.

00:04:24.440 Rocky's vacation, here we come.

00:04:27.200 Whoa, is this economy?

00:04:29.320 Free beer, wine, and snacks.

00:04:31.760 Sweet! 0.95

00:04:32.860 Fast-free Wi-Fi means I can make dinner reservations before we land.

00:04:36.900 And with live TV, I'm not missing the game.

00:04:39.940 It's kind of like, I'm already on vacation.

00:04:43.100 Nice! 0.94

00:04:44.280 On behalf of Air Canada, nice travels.

00:04:47.140 Wi-Fi available to Airplane members on Equipped Flight.

00:04:49.460 Sponsored by Bell. Conditions apply.

00:04:50.700 See your Canada dot com.

00:04:52.540 Suddenly, Bud Light became a joke, something you mercilessly ridiculed your buddy for ordering at the bar.

00:04:58.980 The social stigma encoded in the meme was devastating and made Bud Light untouchable to its core market.

00:05:06.180 For once, corporate America failed to manipulate the cultural norms of its audience

00:05:10.640 and instead turned its own product into a laughing stock.

00:05:14.980 Now, the easiest thing in the world would simply be to apologize and go back to running ads of dudes drinking beer after a long day of work.

00:05:23.080 But the Anheuser-Busch executives couldn't do that because the Mulvaney campaign was meant to champion the new, sacred class of our political regime.

00:05:32.860 Anheuser-Busch tried to issue a non-statement about how it spears for everyone in the hope that conservatives would count it as a win and move on.

00:05:40.420 But that statement contained no apology, because admitting fault would also mean admitting that there's something inherently wrong with plastering trans propaganda on the corporation's product.

00:05:51.260 The statement failed to mollify Red America, but even worse for the executives, it simultaneously showed insufficient loyalty to the new progressive faith.

00:06:02.280 Once the Bud Light campaign became about trans-visibility, even the slightest wavering from Anheuser-Busch would be attacked as disloyalty to the elite religion of our time.

00:06:13.740 The statement issued by executives was as toothless as possible, with zero contrition over the aggressive spread of gender ideology.

00:06:22.020 It was meant as a head fake to fool conservatives into backing off, but even this entirely disingenuous concession was too much,

00:06:29.820 and now Anheuser-Busch is taking heat from the very sector the executives wanted to ingratiate themselves with in the first place.

00:06:37.860 So if Anheuser-Busch executives find themselves in a no-win situation, why not just drop the trans propaganda and go back to making money off the plebs? 1.00

00:06:47.440 Well, because contrary to what most people think, while making money might be the goal of a company, it's not the primary goal of individual executives.

00:06:57.860 Executives rarely stay with the same company for their whole career, because they need to be able to advance by moving to a higher position in other corporations.

00:07:06.300 Even when an executive makes a lot of money for Anheuser-Busch, if he gets himself branded as a backward transphobe in the process, then his career is effectively over.

00:07:18.060 And the same executive would also turn himself into a pariah in his own social circles.

00:07:23.200 Anheuser-Busch executives aren't climbing out of their pickup trucks to drain a few cold ones around the bonfire with the boys on Friday night.

00:07:32.080 These Ivy League-educated aristocrats worked hard to attend fancy cosmopolitan parties where Satan may or may not be worshipped,

00:07:39.880 and they certainly aren't going to throw that away so they can sell beer to middle America.

00:07:44.860 This puts Anheuser-Busch executives in a downward spiral, where any attempt to escape dooms them with one of the two groups they rely on.

00:07:53.200 If Bud Light changes course so that it can once again become profitable, the executives will face the wrath of the woke mob and likely damage their careers permanently.

00:08:04.240 If no change is made, then the company will start to hemorrhage money, and all the executives will be able to do is hope that Red America loses interest in the boycott.

00:08:12.740 Even if the executives did decide to bite the bullet and apologize, it could be that the Bud Light meme has become overwhelming,

00:08:19.580 and that the social stigma would continue even after an intentional boycott passed.

00:08:25.540 The best thing conservatives can do is enjoy the show.

00:08:28.560 The executives who spearheaded the Dylan Mulvaney campaign are awful, unrepentant, progressive ideologues who hate Red America and deserve what they're getting.

00:08:37.560 It's critical that conservatives not back down, making an example of Anheuser-Busch and ensuring that every company learns to fear a similar backlash.

00:08:45.840 Beer may be a silly flashpoint for the culture war, but the right must take wins where it can get them.

00:08:53.060 Woke companies should understand that their perverse attempt to push gender ideology into every aspect of American life will come with a severe cost.
