00:00:30.000 Always and everywhere, power attempts to centralize.
00:00:40.420 In his book On Power, the political theorist Bertrand DeJuvenel explained that power is
00:00:44.820 always seeking to erode barriers to the process of centralization.
00:00:49.140 In its most organic construction, civilization is formed out of overlapping spheres of social
00:00:53.780 sovereignty.
00:00:54.280 Man is a political animal, after all, and none of us exist in complete isolation.
00:00:58.900 But instead find ourselves bound into a web of social dependencies and obligation.
00:01:04.560 The family, church, tribe, guild, and fraternity each make demands and provide for the needs
00:01:11.040 of their members.
00:01:12.240 This network of voluntary and involuntary associations grants us identity and meaning while also providing
00:01:18.000 us with a community within which we can practice virtue.
00:01:20.940 Our dependency on and duty to these spheres sustains and defines us, but they also serve
00:01:27.320 as barriers to the centralization of power.
00:01:29.940 Those with very specific familial, religious, and regional identities and obligations are far
00:01:36.260 less likely to follow the dictates of centralized authority.
00:01:40.020 Power must collapse these opposing spheres of authority if it's to achieve its goals.
00:01:44.660 Regional authorities, organic identities, and natural hierarchies are all barriers to the
00:01:49.940 centralization of power.
00:01:51.160 In the 1940s, James Burnham introduced the idea of the managerial revolution, which had
00:01:57.200 radically altered the modern state.
00:01:59.500 The Soviet Union, Nazi Germany, and liberal democracies like the United States may have significant
00:02:04.700 differences, but ultimately each of these states rested on a managerial structure.
00:02:09.120 After the Industrial Revolution, the paradigm of mass production and mass consumption required
00:02:14.260 a shift in social organization.
00:02:16.740 Large bureaucratic structures were required to meet the logistical, technical, and social
00:02:21.200 challenges of mass society, and those organizations required a new class of expert to operate them.
00:02:27.480 These mass bureaucratic structures promised a miraculous degree of material abundance.
00:02:32.720 By operating at scale, logistical mastery could generate an enormous degree of wealth through
00:02:38.300 efficiency.
00:02:38.860 To reliably extract this degree of efficiency, the new class of experts would need to apply
00:02:44.100 a standardized set of managerial techniques.
00:02:47.060 Just as the uniformity of cogs in a machine is necessary for the operation of an assembly line,
00:02:51.960 the mass managerial bureaucracy requires universalization to scale the massification of human organization.
00:02:58.440 Hey guys, let me tell you about today's sponsored job stacking.
00:03:01.980 More paychecks, less hustle, working from home, that's what job stacking is all about.
00:03:06.180 If you're a remote or hybrid worker looking to maximize your earning potential, then consider
00:03:10.440 joining the Job Stacking Mentorship Program.
00:03:12.760 The program is designed by Ralph Halza, the creator of Job Stacking, to help you successfully
00:03:17.060 implement a strategy that would allow you to collect multiple paychecks from different
00:03:20.860 jobs without burning out or getting caught by employers.
00:03:24.340 Job Stacking has already helped many people double or even triple their incomes.
00:03:28.480 Luke Hill, a financial analyst living in the UK, has used Job Stacking to stack three different
00:03:32.940 jobs and went from making $5K a month to $15K a month.
00:03:36.420 But Job Stacking isn't just about increasing incomes.
00:03:39.360 It's also about helping our guys gain more independence by no longer being a slave to
00:03:43.780 debt or a single employer who hates their values.
00:03:47.020 Andrew Gustafsson, a credit analyst from Australia, is now stacking four salaries, which he has used
00:03:52.340 to pay off his personal and student debt and buy a home for his family.
00:03:56.720 If you don't currently have a remote job, no worries.
00:03:59.300 The program is also designed to help you land remote jobs so that you can go ahead and get
00:04:04.040 started.
00:04:04.820 So if you want to double your income and stop relying on a single paycheck from a woke
00:04:09.040 employer, go to JobStacking.com slash start now.
00:04:13.720 That's JobStacking.com slash start now.
00:04:17.280 And book a call with Rolf today.
00:04:19.060 In his book, Leviathan and its Enemies, the paleo-conservative political theorist Samuel
00:04:23.360 Francis continued Burnham's critical work by outlining the process by which the managerial
00:04:28.340 revolution dissolved the competing structures of bourgeois capitalism.
00:04:32.140 While capital had already revolutionized many competing social spheres, managerialism required
00:04:38.020 their complete abolition.
00:04:40.020 Always and everywhere, power seeks to centralize, and managerialism gains strength through centralization
00:04:46.240 via mass bureaucratic social organization.
00:04:49.840 Cultural and moral particularity from competing spheres of social sovereignty hinder the uniform
00:04:54.940 application of managerial techniques.
00:04:57.500 The individual worker who has a large family with many children may be unwilling to devote his
00:05:01.960 entire life to the corporation.
00:05:04.120 The devout Christian may oppose commerce on the Sabbath of the practice of usury.
00:05:08.600 The devout Muslim may require the observance of certain dietary restrictions.
00:05:12.900 An individual whose family has lived in a region for generations may be unwilling to sacrifice
00:05:18.020 the well-being of that particular community in the name of economic efficiency.
00:05:22.840 Particular peoples with particular identities and ways of being are the enemy of universalized
00:05:27.980 bureaucratic management.
00:05:29.120 Francis observed that the managerial elite attempt to break down barriers to universal application
00:05:34.120 by homogenizing culture.
00:05:36.040 Hedonistic and cosmopolitan identities are highly malleable, so the managerial elite desire
00:05:41.120 a deracinated population that can be easily manipulated.
00:05:45.000 By replacing dependency on morally and culturally particular structures like the family or church
00:05:50.360 with a dependency on mass managerial structures like public education or the welfare state,
00:05:55.120 the managerial class can gain power over individuals and separate them from other social spheres.
00:06:01.120 Progressive secular humanism, or wokeness if you prefer, allies with the managerial revolution
00:06:06.340 by disincentivizing the creation of opposing spheres of sovereignty.
00:06:10.840 It stigmatizes family formation and traditional religion, labeling them as low status.
00:06:15.580 Organic identities are replaced with more general and commodifiable identities, which can be consumed
00:06:20.640 and discarded.
00:06:21.640 In the name of liberation, individuals are stripped of every duty and dependency, making them entirely
00:06:27.460 reliant on the managerial regime.
00:06:29.520 What's better than a well-marbled ribeye sizzling on the barbecue?
00:06:33.980 A well-marbled ribeye sizzling on the barbecue that was carefully selected by an Instacart shopper
00:06:39.140 and delivered to your door.
00:06:40.300 A well-marbled ribeye you ordered without even leaving the kiddie pool.
00:06:45.200 Whatever groceries your summer calls for, Instacart has you covered.
00:06:49.340 Download the Instacart app and enjoy $0 delivery fees on your first three orders.
00:06:54.220 Service fees, exclusions, and terms apply.
00:06:56.900 Instacart. Groceries that over-deliver.
00:07:00.300 Without the protection of competing social spheres, deracinated individuals are left defenseless
00:07:05.140 against the state and corporations that demand total allegiance.
00:07:09.100 In addition to outlining the cultural assimilation required by managerialism, Sam Francis predicted
00:07:14.500 that its internal logic would compel it to pursue globalization.
00:07:18.440 Managerial structures produce their abundance through large-scale organization, necessitating
00:07:23.040 the continuous expansion of logistical networks.
00:07:25.540 National boundaries are arbitrary barriers to the mass bureaucratic mindset, and once the
00:07:30.700 managerial elite complete their revolution within their own borders, they naturally turn
00:07:35.740 outward.
00:07:36.840 New markets mean access to new customers, natural resources, and laborers.
00:07:40.680 But the revolution is never purely economic.
00:07:43.580 Managerial regimes find it easier to coordinate with other managerial regimes of the same order,
00:07:48.260 which is why the United States and the wider West have been obsessed with the spread of liberal
00:07:51.900 democracy.
00:07:52.520 George W. Bush and other conservatives have often been mocked for the idea that at the
00:07:56.880 heart of every nation lies a liberal democracy yearning to be free.
00:08:00.760 You know, a bunch of Washingtons and Jeffersons and Hamiltons just sitting in a cave somewhere
00:08:04.960 in Afghanistan.
00:08:06.140 But this is simply an extension of the universalism that the managerial revolution demands.
00:08:11.000 Massified national organizations naturally seek to expand their power by becoming international
00:08:16.200 organizations.
00:08:17.500 The World Health Organization, International Monetary Fund, World Economic Health Forum,
00:08:22.440 NATO, and several other international entities are all constantly seeking to add new nodes
00:08:27.440 to the managerial network, creating a loose, globalized managerial order without any formal
00:08:32.160 name.
00:08:32.880 These organizations always emphasize the problem on an international scale.
00:08:37.500 Global warming, pandemic response, and world overpopulation are all issues that are
00:08:42.040 too large for any one nation to address on its own.
00:08:45.280 By focusing on large and abstract issues, the managerial elite can locate their decision-making
00:08:50.380 centers well outside the nation itself.
00:08:53.400 This makes it almost impossible for the citizens of that nation to hold real power accountable,
00:08:58.680 even as they continue to participate in the democratic process.
00:09:02.480 For the ever-expanding network of managerial bureaucracy to spread profitably into new regions,
00:09:07.780 it must successfully homogenize culture.
00:09:09.980 It's not enough for a culture to become uniform inside a nation, it must become uniform across
00:09:14.960 the entire international network.
00:09:17.400 The conversion of nations into liberal democracies assists in this process.
00:09:21.440 Democratic elites must introduce mass media, bureaucratic organization, and therapeutic amelioration
00:09:27.020 if they're to achieve the kind of social engineering that's required to maintain power under a system
00:09:32.100 of popular sovereignty.
00:09:33.800 New democratic leaders in foreign countries thus benefit greatly from connecting their subjects
00:09:38.460 to the global network of managers already established in the West.
00:09:42.500 Mass media begins its work, and McDonald's, Starbucks, and Apple stores soon follow.
00:09:47.800 The traditions and history of the nation are slowly worn away as a tide of foreign culture
00:09:51.740 flows in.
00:09:52.940 International organizations become major employers as well as cultural staples that grow in importance
00:09:58.100 until they're so integral to the operation of the country that no one can imagine how they
00:10:02.840 ever got along without them.
00:10:04.400 Managers and personnel flow over borders as naturally as the goods that those organizations
00:10:09.080 produce.
00:10:10.100 The very idea that the people differ in any significant way from those of any other country
00:10:14.380 slowly disappears.
00:10:16.020 No group has claim to any given nation because all nations are now part of the mass managerial
00:10:20.740 network.
00:10:21.440 The managerial elite develop international class interests because their interdependent networks
00:10:25.720 make the nation itself an interchangeable unit.
00:10:28.860 Managing a government is seen as no different from running an international corporation or
00:10:32.960 a non-government organization.
00:10:34.900 All of these entities feature similar bureaucratic structures, and the managers have an easy time
00:10:39.680 moving between them.
00:10:40.980 Just as it sought to homogenize culture inside its original borders, the global managerial order
00:10:45.580 must break down the particularities of the nations to which it seeks to expand.
00:10:50.100 This is why wokeness has gone international with movements like Black Lives Matter, gaining traction
00:10:54.860 in countries like England or Ireland, where no history of racialized conflict exists.
00:10:59.100 Starbucks is running ads about transgenderism in India for a reason, and it has everything
00:11:03.740 to do with coffee consumption if you understand it properly.
00:11:07.140 The United States is using gay rights as part of its justification to send billions of dollars
00:11:11.440 in military aid to both Ukraine and Israel.
00:11:14.580 Progressive secular humanism is the universal asset meant to dissolve all cultural particularities
00:11:19.600 and turn the people of each nation into blank slates onto which managerial techniques can
00:11:24.680 be freely pressed.
00:11:26.460 The good news for those of us who see the nation as the best social organization for human flourishing
00:11:31.220 is that the current managerial order cannot last.
00:11:34.620 Humans are not interchangeable widgets.
00:11:36.840 We're not meant to lose our heritage, traditions, religions, and languages for a bureaucratic
00:11:41.820 tower of Babel.
00:11:43.300 Like Soviet communism, managerial liberalism has made faulty assumptions about human nature that
00:11:48.780 will doom it.
00:11:49.780 Late stage managerialism will eventually fall apart.
00:11:53.340 The only question is whether Western nations will have leaders ready to guide their people
00:11:58.180 to a brighter future.
