Summary

In the wake of the release of the Nashville shooter's manifesto, I thought it would be fun to take a deep dive into one of the craziest leftist articles I've read in a while, and see where the leftist mind is.

00:00:17.800 It's kind of like, I'm already on vacation.
00:00:20.980 Nice!

00:00:30.000 Hey everybody, how's it going?
00:00:32.120 I'm Oren McIntyre.
00:00:33.540 Thank you for joining me today.
00:00:35.580 I think I've got a great show that you're really going to enjoy.
00:00:39.260 So we try to mix things up here.
00:00:41.480 We had some pretty dour recent events yesterday
00:00:44.680 with the release of the manifesto of the Nashville shooter.
00:00:50.600 That was obviously a pretty heavy topic.
00:00:53.460 But one of the things I also like to do is lighten up the mood here.
00:00:56.420 And one of the things I do to do that is
00:00:58.760 go through one of these kind of crazy peer,
00:01:02.140 you know, peering deep into one of these crazy articles
00:01:05.420 that let us see kind of the inner workings of the leftist mind.
00:01:09.380 I like to do this because one, it's fun,
00:01:11.400 but also two, I think it's valuable to go through this propaganda
00:01:14.720 that's being churned out by the left
00:01:16.500 and see where their headspace is.
00:01:18.980 They don't have a theory in mind for us, right?
00:01:21.020 For the left, the right is just a bunch of people
00:01:23.720 who, you know, nothing makes sense.
00:01:25.520 It's all irrational. It's all just hatred.
00:01:28.140 You know, they're all probably just dumb.
00:01:30.180 There's no understanding of why anyone on the right
00:01:33.480 does what they do.
00:01:35.120 We have to have a theory of mind for the left
00:01:37.340 because we live, unfortunately, in a progressive world.
00:01:40.900 We live in a world where leftism has come to dominate
00:01:43.960 most of our major institutions in our culture.
00:01:46.240 And so, you know, the right has to spend a lot of time
00:01:48.600 trying to understand what leftists are thinking or doing
00:01:51.740 so that they can navigate things like their personal relationships
00:01:55.280 or with their family so that they can, you know,
00:01:57.980 not get in trouble at work, all this other stuff.
00:02:00.680 So we have to understand leftists.
00:02:02.520 Leftists, unfortunately, don't have to understand us.
00:02:04.560 At some point, really hoping that changes,
00:02:06.340 working on trying to change that.
00:02:07.700 But until then, that's just a reality of kind of where we're at.
00:02:10.660 And so I often think it's both amusing and valuable
00:02:14.360 to kind of go into some of these pieces
00:02:16.800 and understand what an unhinged leftist is trying to say,
00:02:20.760 what kind of verbiage they're using,
00:02:22.540 what kind of propaganda they're spouting,
00:02:24.880 what their thought process is like,
00:02:26.940 and how they're putting these arguments together
00:02:29.380 so that when you run into them,
00:02:31.200 you kind of understand what's going on.
00:02:33.320 Now, Salon is obviously one of these rather unbalanced outlets.
00:02:37.280 And the original title for this article was particularly fun.
00:02:40.800 It's the one that got a lot more attention.
00:02:42.660 Of course, they changed it because they're cowards.
00:02:45.360 They throw out the more salacious title first.
00:02:48.160 They try to get the clickbait, see if they can get away with it.
00:02:50.960 And then if they actually catch enough heat from it,
00:02:53.140 they run it back and they do it again.
00:02:54.600 So this piece has been through a couple different iterations
00:02:58.040 that the title is the most notable change.
00:03:00.320 But most of the good stuff is still here.
00:03:02.060 So we're going to go ahead and go through it.
00:03:04.200 The original title, by the way, was
00:03:05.620 MAGA and Christian Nationalism,
00:03:07.780 Bigger Threat to America Than Hamas Could Ever Be.
00:03:11.240 And so obviously, they're going out of their way
00:03:13.260 to compare their political opponents to terrorists.
00:03:16.900 The left does this quite a lot, actually.
00:03:19.260 If you want to go all the way back,
00:03:21.000 there's this Aaron Sorkin show.
00:03:22.660 He's the guy who wrote The West Wing.
00:03:24.000 And he wrote movies like A Few Good Men.
00:03:27.540 And there's the show called Newsroom,
00:03:29.960 where the main character basically calls
00:03:31.940 all right-wingers the Christian Taliban, right?
00:03:35.760 The Christian Taliban.
00:03:36.780 So the left has been doing this for a very long time, decades.
00:03:39.580 And they do this for a very simple reason.
00:03:40.960 They're trying to dehumanize their opponents.
00:03:43.320 Make no mistake about what the motivation is here.
00:03:48.580 These are people who want to hurt their enemies.
00:03:50.680 They want to turn the state against their enemies.
00:03:52.840 They want to justify terrible things towards their enemies.
00:03:56.080 And so they try to conflate the right
00:03:58.880 with a violent terrorist organization
00:04:01.520 because they want to use the same tactics against them.
00:04:04.640 We saw this just, you know,
00:04:05.960 that many people are understanding this
00:04:07.720 as, you know, they start calling for decolonization
00:04:11.740 of places like Israel and the United States.
00:04:14.800 Well, it turns out decolonization always meant
00:04:17.180 that they wanted to perpetrate violence.
00:04:19.280 And when they were calling, you know,
00:04:20.960 Europeans or white Americans colonizers,
00:04:25.200 they meant the same thing then
00:04:26.560 that they meant about Jewish people now.
00:04:28.760 There was, is in both cases,
00:04:30.640 a language that was justifying certain actions.
00:04:34.000 And the same, again, is true here
00:04:35.700 with their attempts to link, you know,
00:04:37.720 their political opponents to these vicious groups.
00:04:41.020 Now, again, they changed up the title.
00:04:42.600 So our new title is even,
00:04:45.120 is in some ways more delusional, right?
00:04:47.640 Because it's talking about theocracy.
00:04:49.820 And that's going to be the fun thing about this,
00:04:52.120 about this article.
00:04:53.720 Understanding that as bad as you think it might be
00:04:57.080 for people on the right,
00:04:58.800 as much as you think, well,
00:05:00.260 we might be losing these things.
00:05:01.320 I want you to understand the left tells themselves
00:05:03.980 they're in the same position
00:05:04.920 and they really believe this.
00:05:06.700 Not everyone, not everyone's a true believer over there.
00:05:09.160 There are very cynical power players,
00:05:10.740 but a lot of these people truly believe
00:05:13.180 that they're just on the verge of the handmaid's tale
00:05:16.560 or whatever cartoonish idea of a theocracy.
00:05:20.740 If you ask them to even explain what a theocracy is,
00:05:23.840 they couldn't do it, I promise you.
00:05:25.680 But they have this idea
00:05:27.640 that they're on the edge of this theocracy.
00:05:29.220 And so they're warning about the dangers
00:05:30.880 from this new, incredibly dangerous speaker of the house,
00:05:34.380 Mike Johnson.
00:05:35.020 We'll get into why that's as much of a joke
00:05:38.020 as can possibly be in a second here.
00:05:39.800 But before we do, guys,
00:05:41.000 let's go ahead and hear from today's sponsor.
00:05:44.200 These days, it's impossible to thrive with just one job.
00:05:46.760 Between increasing living costs,
00:05:48.240 paying off debts and planning for the future,
00:05:50.500 things like buying a home, building savings,
00:05:52.300 and even going on vacation can seem like fantasies.
00:05:55.260 If your goal is financial freedom,
00:05:56.520 you could start taking on more hours at your current job,
00:05:59.380 work towards a promotion,
00:06:00.620 or try putting your money into something risky like stocks,
00:06:03.440 cryptocurrencies, or even a side hustle.
00:06:05.460 But at the end of the day,
00:06:06.440 do you really want to sacrifice time and energy
00:06:08.460 that could otherwise be spent with your loved ones
00:06:10.440 or on your hobbies just to make a living?
00:06:12.660 Luckily, you don't have to hustle
00:06:13.840 to reliably make more money.
00:06:15.460 All you have to do is job stacking.
00:06:17.200 Job stacking is the best way for regular people,
00:06:19.600 regular employees,
00:06:20.620 to unleash their earning potential
00:06:21.780 and increase job and financial security.
00:06:24.140 How?
00:06:24.420 By working multiple jobs,
00:06:26.100 but without burning out,
00:06:27.340 or more importantly,
00:06:28.300 getting caught by corporate overlords.
00:06:30.100 Job stacking allows you to reliably receive paychecks
00:06:32.420 from multiple employers each month
00:06:34.040 without having to work more than eight hours a day.
00:06:36.540 You don't have to be in tech
00:06:37.820 or any particular field or industry
00:06:39.480 to do it as long as you can work remotely.
00:06:41.800 If you've thought about working multiple jobs,
00:06:43.280 but you're not sure how to start
00:06:44.400 or are afraid of getting caught,
00:06:45.920 get the fundamental job stacking course today

00:06:54.100 Rolf Haltza, author of Job Stacking.

00:06:59.260 including hybrid jobs,

00:07:05.740 so you can start proficiently job stacking
00:07:08.000 without having to make mistakes,
00:07:09.660 figuring things out on your own,
00:07:11.120 or reinventing the wheel in the process.

00:07:20.040 All right, guys, so let me take you
00:07:21.880 on this wonderful journey
00:07:23.580 through the progressive fever dream
00:07:26.280 that they have been telling themselves about.
00:07:30.260 Again, this is the change title,
00:07:32.000 Far-Right MAGA Theocrat's Most Dangerous Threat in America.
00:07:35.640 Even Mitch McConnell is trying to push back
00:07:37.820 against Mike Johnson and the MAGA wing of the GOP.
00:07:41.480 It isn't working.
00:07:42.960 All right, I'm going to skip down just a little bit
00:07:44.980 because the first couple paragraphs are,
00:07:47.500 what's the author?
00:07:48.300 Brian Karam,
00:07:49.440 he just kind of prattles on a little bit about Stan.
00:07:52.520 I think he wants to let you know
00:07:53.700 that he's in the White House briefing room.
00:07:55.980 I think that's the entire,
00:07:57.260 or the press briefing room.
00:07:59.940 Like, that's the entire purpose
00:08:01.000 of those first couple paragraphs
00:08:02.160 is just to be like,
00:08:03.220 no, I'm a really serious journalist, guys.
00:08:05.520 I'm important.
00:08:06.360 I promise.
00:08:08.020 It's contentless.
00:08:09.040 So we're going to skip down here
00:08:10.620 to where he kind of gets into
00:08:12.220 the major thrust of his article.
00:08:14.820 So he says,
00:08:15.320 most Republicans are so dismayed
00:08:16.960 at the prospect of working with Democrats
00:08:18.400 that they want to scuttle efforts
00:08:19.960 to fund the war in Ukraine,
00:08:21.540 virtually isolating Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell,
00:08:25.600 who seems to be nearly alone on an island
00:08:27.560 calling for aid to continue.
00:08:29.640 It's a rare display of common sense
00:08:32.600 for the 81-year-old Kentuckian,
00:08:34.260 whose primary focus is on political power.
00:08:36.840 That's an amazing paragraph.
00:08:38.520 Let's talk about that paragraph a little bit.
00:08:40.280 So first, Mitch McConnell is far
00:08:41.700 from the only Republican
00:08:42.620 who's pulling for funding in Ukraine,
00:08:44.720 very sadly.
00:08:46.040 It's embarrassing that, you know,
00:08:48.720 when you try to pretend that the GOP
00:08:50.100 is a opposition party,
00:08:52.020 the fact that they have been pretty gung-ho
00:08:54.340 from the beginning,
00:08:56.020 looking to pay for pretty much everything
00:08:58.500 that a Ukrainian oligarch could ever want.
00:09:01.840 It's been very clear the level of corruption
00:09:03.860 and the uniparty on display.
00:09:05.900 But, you know, they have to lie about all this.
00:09:08.640 So they're like, oh, yeah, no,
00:09:09.620 the entire GOP is against this thing,
00:09:11.500 even though they should be.
00:09:12.460 They're not.
00:09:13.560 But they have to make it sound like
00:09:14.760 there's this extreme dichotomy
00:09:16.620 because otherwise it doesn't really make sense.
00:09:19.760 Then they'd have to notice
00:09:20.740 that these parties are far more interested
00:09:22.600 in the same thing than they are different things.
00:09:24.540 And the whole purpose of this article
00:09:25.920 is to demonize, you know, the Republican Party,
00:09:29.260 not to recognize that the Republican Party
00:09:31.080 is the handmaiden of the Democrats.
00:09:33.100 So first, it's like, well,
00:09:35.040 can you believe that they're trying
00:09:36.040 to get rid of our efforts
00:09:37.140 to fund the war in Ukraine?
00:09:38.900 Yes. Yes, I can.
00:09:39.960 Because we have a billion problems
00:09:42.320 happening in the United States right now.
00:09:44.620 People can't afford homes.
00:09:46.340 There's an opioid epidemic.
00:09:49.240 There's a wide open border.
00:09:51.080 People cannot start families.
00:09:53.080 There's all kinds of racial conflict.
00:09:55.800 There's all kinds of educational issues.
00:09:58.020 There's all kinds of cultural conflict.
00:10:01.280 And yeah, no, we don't have a lot of time
00:10:03.500 or money to be sending off to these wars.
00:10:06.340 However, you'll notice that
00:10:08.560 they have to kind of acknowledge
00:10:10.520 that Mitch McConnell is the bad guy, right?
00:10:12.480 Because obviously Mitch McConnell is a bad guy.
00:10:14.580 He's a cartoon of a corrupt politician.
00:10:17.460 However, they have to pretend like he,
00:10:19.320 okay, yeah, maybe he's kind of a bad guy
00:10:21.100 because he wants political power,
00:10:22.600 but he's on our side of that.
00:10:24.420 Okay, well, what does that mean, buddy?
00:10:25.940 If you're on the side of Mitch McConnell,
00:10:29.240 first, you should probably look at yourself in the mirror.
00:10:31.660 But second, if your point is that
00:10:34.600 he only cares about political power
00:10:36.280 and you're on his side,
00:10:38.320 what does that tell you about political power?
00:10:40.680 But that's the amazing thing.
00:10:42.120 It's just desperately uncritical, right?
00:10:44.580 Brian just can't imagine why the guy
00:10:48.140 who wants political power
00:10:49.600 and only cares about political power
00:10:51.100 and is obviously a bad guy
00:10:53.300 would be fighting alongside him.
00:10:54.940 It's the stone toss pulling the rope cartoon, right?
00:10:59.280 All right, so a little more here.
00:11:01.440 No Americans are getting killed in Ukraine, McConnell said.
00:11:04.640 We're rebuilding our industrial base.
00:11:06.280 The Ukrainians are destroying the army
00:11:07.600 of one of our biggest rivals.
00:11:09.000 I have a hard time finding anything wrong with that.
00:11:11.300 I think it's wonderful
00:11:11.980 that they're defending themselves
00:11:13.100 and also notion that Europeans are not doing enough.
00:11:16.020 They've done almost 90 billion
00:11:17.080 and they're housing a bunch of refugees
00:11:19.780 who escaped.
00:11:20.920 I think our NATO allies in Europe
00:11:22.960 have done quite a lot
00:11:24.380 and the author of the article says,
00:11:25.920 you Democrats have said it better
00:11:27.520 and spelled it out exactly
00:11:29.980 what the stakes for the U.S. are
00:11:32.860 in going to war in Ukraine.
00:11:34.600 So first,
00:11:36.220 so Mitch McConnell is just coming out
00:11:38.960 and saying,
00:11:39.560 yes, of course,
00:11:40.260 we're going to go to war
00:11:41.020 because it helps the military industrial complex
00:11:43.040 and we don't care about Ukrainians.
00:11:44.700 And so we will fight to the last Ukrainian
00:11:47.180 because they're not Americans.
00:11:48.440 And that's totally moral
00:11:49.680 because we're not actually sending Americans in
00:11:51.840 so we can send all the money we want.
00:11:53.640 And look,
00:11:54.020 we're finally building manufacturing jobs.
00:11:56.260 Now, if you're on the left
00:11:57.080 and you've spent,
00:11:57.840 I don't know,
00:11:58.660 decades,
00:11:59.560 you know,
00:11:59.800 since at least the 1960s
00:12:01.360 talking about endlessly
00:12:02.620 about the military industrial complex
00:12:04.560 and the danger of defense contractors.
00:12:06.660 And finally,
00:12:07.500 people on the right are like,
00:12:08.620 you know what?
00:12:09.320 I think,
00:12:09.760 I think you might be right about that.
00:12:11.260 I think there is a desire
00:12:13.640 to perpetually keep us at war.
00:12:16.320 Just kind of bundling money
00:12:18.480 through these apparatus
00:12:19.600 and that's immoral.
00:12:20.920 If you have people on the right
00:12:22.100 finally saying that
00:12:22.960 and your response is like,
00:12:24.080 nope,
00:12:24.360 I'm signing with Mitch McConnell now,
00:12:26.520 then it kind of tells you
00:12:27.980 what the real motivation was.
00:12:30.060 And you have to understand this is,
00:12:31.720 this is so core to the left,
00:12:33.960 to the journalistic class,
00:12:35.460 to these chattering classes.
00:12:36.940 They hate middle Americans.
00:12:39.940 They hate Southern,
00:12:41.060 Southern evangelicals.
00:12:42.500 They hate Midwesterners.
00:12:44.700 They hate the Republican base
00:12:46.820 more than anything.
00:12:49.280 They don't really care
00:12:50.320 about most of these issues.
00:12:51.480 They just want to punish people
00:12:52.900 they think are inherently bad
00:12:54.940 due to the color of their skin.
00:12:57.280 That really is the motivation
00:12:59.980 of Democrats.
00:13:01.100 And though not just the color of skin,
00:13:02.320 because I want to make it clear,
00:13:03.320 there are plenty of,
00:13:04.260 you know,
00:13:04.680 white Democrats who hate
00:13:06.080 white Southerners
00:13:07.480 or white Republicans,
00:13:08.640 but they almost see themselves
00:13:10.360 as set apart
00:13:11.020 because it's as much
00:13:12.580 a class thing
00:13:13.240 as it is a race thing
00:13:14.020 for these people.
00:13:14.880 But it is definitely both.
00:13:16.360 And they really hate these people.
00:13:18.300 And so,
00:13:18.860 so even though,
00:13:20.080 like a lot of people
00:13:21.820 who have traditionally been,
00:13:23.620 you know,
00:13:24.220 kind of Republican voters,
00:13:25.700 you know,
00:13:25.920 white evangelicals
00:13:26.820 or Midwesterners
00:13:27.900 or,
00:13:28.100 you know,
00:13:28.560 Southerners
00:13:29.020 who they have hated
00:13:31.060 for a long time
00:13:31.620 are like,
00:13:31.940 you know what?
00:13:32.700 I think we might agree
00:13:33.560 with you guys.
00:13:34.420 Let's,
00:13:34.760 let's build a coalition
00:13:35.840 and get together
00:13:36.540 and fight against
00:13:37.400 this wasteful military spending
00:13:39.140 and this exploitation
00:13:40.380 of America's young men
00:13:42.240 who are being forced
00:13:42.880 to go to war.
00:13:43.400 And left is like,
00:13:44.240 no,
00:13:44.420 just kidding.
00:13:44.980 We didn't hate that stuff.
00:13:46.120 We hated you.
00:13:47.500 And so the most important thing
00:13:48.620 is to punish you.
00:13:50.140 And so we're going to side
00:13:51.200 with Mitch McConnell
00:13:51.740 over you,
00:13:53.080 which is why he's like,
00:13:54.100 oh yeah,
00:13:54.500 no,
00:13:54.760 he did a beautiful job
00:13:56.120 of explaining
00:13:56.740 the real motivations here.
00:13:58.160 Remember that Vlad,
00:13:59.540 the Impaler Putin.
00:14:01.660 Come on guys.
00:14:02.740 Really?
00:14:03.780 You're going to go
00:14:04.480 with Dracula?
00:14:05.720 Like you're going to go,
00:14:06.820 like,
00:14:07.240 I get it.
00:14:07.840 Vladimir Putin,
00:14:08.400 bad guy,
00:14:08.840 but really we're going to,
00:14:09.660 we're going to compare him
00:14:10.560 to Dracula.
00:14:11.940 As clearly suggested
00:14:13.140 that he wants to get
00:14:14.420 the old Soviet Union band
00:14:15.460 back together,
00:14:16.480 Ukraine is just the first,
00:14:17.680 the final stop
00:14:18.760 in a quest,
00:14:19.740 or a first stop
00:14:20.460 in a final quest
00:14:21.360 for global hegemony.
00:14:23.280 So again,
00:14:24.220 this is delusional,
00:14:25.860 right?
00:14:26.140 Now,
00:14:26.440 don't get me wrong,
00:14:27.640 if Vladimir Putin
00:14:28.520 could rule the world,
00:14:30.560 yeah,
00:14:30.920 I think he probably would.
00:14:32.560 But is that his ambition now?
00:14:35.260 Is that his goal now?
00:14:36.700 No.
00:14:37.040 Now,
00:14:37.180 does that make him
00:14:37.720 a good person?
00:14:38.280 No,
00:14:38.480 absolutely not.
00:14:39.460 He's a bad person.
00:14:40.480 But,
00:14:41.080 like,
00:14:42.080 this is just a reality
00:14:43.300 that other countries
00:14:44.420 are going to have
00:14:45.180 geopolitical spheres
00:14:46.180 of influence
00:14:46.720 and they're going to
00:14:47.140 battle over them.
00:14:48.360 Does that make them right?
00:14:49.660 No.
00:14:50.280 But does that make them
00:14:50.980 uniquely evil?
00:14:52.100 No.
00:14:52.460 And does that mean
00:14:53.300 they're looking
00:14:53.620 for world domination?
00:14:55.040 Well,
00:14:55.240 no.
00:14:55.960 And that's something else
00:14:57.100 you probably want to think about.
00:14:58.420 If Vladimir Putin
00:14:59.380 having one country
00:15:00.760 to his left
00:15:01.480 under his control
00:15:02.480 is a sign
00:15:04.340 of global hegemony,
00:15:06.360 then what is
00:15:07.140 your current stance?
00:15:08.660 What is NATO?
00:15:10.100 Right?
00:15:10.360 Like,
00:15:10.900 what does the current
00:15:12.320 global American empire
00:15:13.440 look like
00:15:14.280 if that's the case?
00:15:15.780 But again,
00:15:16.720 none of this stuff
00:15:17.680 filters in.
00:15:19.200 It doesn't matter
00:15:20.300 that these leftists
00:15:21.000 have been railing
00:15:21.760 against Western
00:15:23.580 global hegemony
00:15:24.540 ad nauseum
00:15:25.480 and are still doing so.
00:15:27.220 They're going to say
00:15:28.000 that if anyone
00:15:29.020 actually challenges
00:15:29.920 that hegemony,
00:15:31.660 now it's a problem.
00:15:32.700 It doesn't have to make sense.
00:15:34.280 They just hate you.
00:15:35.760 Fellow Kentucky
00:15:36.580 Senator Rand Paul
00:15:37.920 said that McConnell
00:15:38.700 was out of touch
00:15:39.880 with his party's base
00:15:40.920 while Missouri
00:15:41.860 Senator Josh Hawley
00:15:43.200 tried to McConnell
00:15:44.120 for siding
00:15:44.920 with Democrats.
00:15:46.260 Yes,
00:15:46.800 peace be upon
00:15:47.500 both Rand Paul
00:15:48.160 and Josh Hawley
00:15:49.660 there.
00:15:50.180 They are of course
00:15:50.720 100% correct.
00:15:52.900 They should be
00:15:54.080 chiding with McConnell.
00:15:55.920 He is wildly
00:15:56.660 out of step
00:15:58.180 with the party.
00:16:00.380 And that was
00:16:01.260 before Homeland Security
00:16:02.400 Chief Alejandro
00:16:04.320 Mayocas
00:16:05.320 gave Hawley
00:16:07.900 a tongue lashing
00:16:08.880 on border issues
00:16:09.760 later that afternoon.
00:16:11.320 It looks like
00:16:11.740 Putin still had
00:16:12.460 a few fans
00:16:13.380 in the GOP.
00:16:14.980 So remember,
00:16:15.700 if you don't want
00:16:17.300 to send
00:16:17.860 $100 billion
00:16:18.520 to Ukraine,
00:16:20.140 if you don't think
00:16:21.100 it's America's job
00:16:22.500 to grind
00:16:23.180 every single
00:16:24.100 Ukrainian mail
00:16:25.140 into a bloody paste
00:16:26.400 in the name
00:16:27.460 of opposing
00:16:29.340 Vladimir Putin,
00:16:30.480 if you think
00:16:31.260 that the money
00:16:33.020 that American
00:16:33.740 taxpayers pay
00:16:35.680 to the government
00:16:36.420 is best spent
00:16:37.760 inside the borders
00:16:39.000 of the United States
00:16:39.640 for the benefit
00:16:40.480 of the American people
00:16:41.920 and you want
00:16:42.740 to do something
00:16:43.180 like say
00:16:43.700 not let borders
00:16:44.980 stay wide open
00:16:45.980 so gang members
00:16:46.980 and drugs
00:16:47.480 can flow
00:16:48.000 into the United States
00:16:48.980 and give the Democrats
00:16:50.100 a permanent
00:16:50.780 electoral majority,
00:16:53.300 you are of course
00:16:54.480 an agent
00:16:55.260 of Vladimir Putin,
00:16:57.520 the most dangerous
00:16:58.240 man to ever
00:16:59.700 impale someone,
00:17:00.840 I guess,
00:17:01.300 as we learned
00:17:02.340 he is actually
00:17:03.260 Vlad the Impaler.
00:17:04.900 In the House,
00:17:06.420 those would likely
00:17:07.380 include newly
00:17:08.200 minted House Speaker
00:17:09.220 Mike Johnson.
00:17:10.660 And that still
00:17:11.260 sounds like
00:17:11.700 a Bart Simpson
00:17:12.200 prank call
00:17:12.820 to Mose Barr
00:17:14.020 who took on
00:17:14.800 McConnell directly
00:17:15.440 pushing to
00:17:16.040 unlink aid
00:17:16.740 to Israel
00:17:17.240 from aid
00:17:18.220 to Ukraine.
00:17:18.920 Now,
00:17:19.400 I actually did
00:17:20.240 an appearance
00:17:20.700 recently on
00:17:21.600 Jenna Ellis' show
00:17:23.080 and we talked
00:17:24.300 about this a little bit.
00:17:24.980 She was in favor
00:17:25.600 of the Israeli aid package.
00:17:28.060 I was not.
00:17:29.040 But the point is
00:17:29.980 the only argument
00:17:31.680 for the Democrats
00:17:32.920 was like,
00:17:33.440 no,
00:17:33.580 these things
00:17:33.920 should be together.
00:17:35.140 You have to
00:17:36.580 link these things
00:17:37.140 together.
00:17:37.660 They all have
00:17:38.180 to happen
00:17:38.660 simultaneously.
00:17:39.680 Some of these
00:17:41.660 Republicans
00:17:42.060 were like,
00:17:42.480 no,
00:17:42.680 we break this
00:17:43.140 apart.
00:17:43.880 That way
00:17:44.300 we can fund
00:17:44.800 Israel,
00:17:45.200 not Ukraine.
00:17:45.680 My position
00:17:46.100 is why
00:17:46.540 are we funding
00:17:47.000 any foreign
00:17:47.620 government,
00:17:48.340 especially one
00:17:48.940 like Israel,
00:17:49.500 which is perfectly
00:17:50.220 wealthy and capable
00:17:51.260 of defending
00:17:51.960 itself against
00:17:53.160 some guys
00:17:54.040 with AK-47s.
00:17:55.620 But either way,
00:17:57.060 this really
00:17:57.700 offends the left.
00:17:59.040 They're very angry
00:17:59.920 that Johnson
00:18:00.800 would try to
00:18:01.560 break this apart.
00:18:03.300 I'm offended
00:18:04.140 that our first act
00:18:05.700 of this new,
00:18:06.660 very dangerous
00:18:07.420 Republican speaker
00:18:09.000 is sending
00:18:09.880 money overseas
00:18:10.820 rather than
00:18:11.800 caring about
00:18:12.320 anything for
00:18:14.080 the American
00:18:14.500 people,
00:18:15.060 but whatever,
00:18:15.800 right?
00:18:15.980 I guess that's
00:18:16.920 too much to ask.
00:18:17.840 So the only
00:18:18.200 thing to be angry
00:18:18.860 about is which
00:18:19.940 country we're
00:18:21.420 sending American
00:18:22.040 tax dollars to,
00:18:23.300 not that we're
00:18:23.960 sending American
00:18:24.760 tax dollars overseas,
00:18:26.640 period.
00:18:27.320 But I digress.
00:18:28.860 While the world
00:18:29.680 burns,
00:18:30.460 Johnson and the
00:18:31.500 MAGA wing of
00:18:32.600 the Republican
00:18:33.120 Party,
00:18:33.580 which seems to
00:18:34.360 have swallowed
00:18:35.000 the evangelical
00:18:35.740 movement while
00:18:36.440 also embracing
00:18:37.280 it is,
00:18:39.240 and he makes
00:18:39.580 a terrible
00:18:40.100 Terminator joke,
00:18:42.020 is embracing
00:18:42.560 the darkest
00:18:43.100 verses of the
00:18:44.260 Bible,
00:18:45.140 apparently pushing
00:18:46.000 for apocalypse
00:18:46.800 with an enthusiasm
00:18:47.740 only rivaled by
00:18:49.160 Saul's slaughter of
00:18:50.140 Christians before he
00:18:50.960 changed his name
00:18:51.560 to Paul.
00:18:52.220 This is another
00:18:53.040 fun part of this
00:18:53.900 article.
00:18:54.940 This person is
00:18:56.320 pretending they've
00:18:56.960 read the Bible.
00:18:58.300 It's adorable.
00:19:00.240 And so we're
00:19:01.200 going to go in
00:19:01.700 and out here.
00:19:03.080 This is literally,
00:19:03.880 if you've ever seen
00:19:04.380 that meme online
00:19:05.260 where the guy's
00:19:06.120 like, oh, I
00:19:07.480 mean, I don't
00:19:08.060 believe in
00:19:08.460 Christianity.
00:19:09.220 I don't believe
00:19:09.720 in your stupid
00:19:10.240 religion, but you
00:19:10.980 believe in it.
00:19:11.940 And so I'm going
00:19:12.560 to use it to
00:19:13.420 hold you accountable
00:19:14.220 even though I
00:19:15.360 hate you and
00:19:16.180 I'm wishing for
00:19:17.260 your extermination.
00:19:18.280 That's basically
00:19:18.980 the tact this guy
00:19:20.440 has here the
00:19:21.060 whole time.
00:19:21.460 He's like, by
00:19:22.200 the way, I
00:19:22.820 mean, there's,
00:19:23.600 you know, yeah,
00:19:24.160 the Bible's filled
00:19:25.040 with all these bad
00:19:25.720 things and these
00:19:26.260 people are embracing
00:19:26.880 the bad things
00:19:27.440 of the Bible and
00:19:27.960 theology is scary,
00:19:28.900 but also you
00:19:29.500 should be a good
00:19:30.140 Christian and you
00:19:30.900 should follow the
00:19:31.480 verses that I
00:19:32.260 selectively quote
00:19:33.080 out of the Bible
00:19:33.640 because my selected
00:19:34.820 verses are the
00:19:37.320 best ones and
00:19:38.400 all of your
00:19:38.860 verses are wrong
00:19:40.000 and therefore,
00:19:41.140 even though I
00:19:41.740 don't actually
00:19:42.160 believe in this
00:19:42.720 stuff and I
00:19:43.060 think it's all
00:19:43.420 super dangerous,
00:19:45.080 you need to be
00:19:46.400 careful about how
00:19:47.580 you conduct
00:19:48.100 yourself because
00:19:48.700 you need to be
00:19:49.760 a good Christian.
00:19:50.840 So yeah, the
00:19:51.480 idea first that
00:19:53.480 the MAGA wing
00:19:54.360 has swallowed
00:19:55.340 evangelicals.
00:19:56.600 Well, I mean,
00:19:57.320 it's hard to argue
00:19:58.280 that there are many
00:19:59.140 evangelicals in the
00:20:00.240 MAGA wing, but
00:20:00.820 it's obviously clear
00:20:01.960 that that's not the
00:20:02.820 case that, for
00:20:04.320 instance, there are
00:20:05.080 a lot of people
00:20:05.660 who in evangelical
00:20:07.140 Christianity who are
00:20:08.020 currently opposing
00:20:08.800 this Christian
00:20:09.760 nationalism thing.
00:20:10.600 I'm not a big fan
00:20:11.460 of the moniker
00:20:12.120 Christian nationalism
00:20:12.880 for reasons I've
00:20:13.880 explained kind of
00:20:15.520 at length in other
00:20:16.540 episodes, so I'm not
00:20:17.340 going to dive into it
00:20:17.980 here.
00:20:18.200 My point being is
00:20:19.660 if you think this
00:20:20.360 is super dangerous
00:20:21.280 and that the
00:20:23.460 evangelicals have
00:20:24.100 just been swelled
00:20:24.700 by this, then why
00:20:25.880 are so many
00:20:26.300 evangelicals in
00:20:27.260 opposition to this
00:20:28.120 thing that you're
00:20:28.600 saying is super
00:20:29.600 dangerous?
00:20:30.000 Remember, the
00:20:30.500 original title of
00:20:31.880 this was how
00:20:32.680 dangerous MAGA
00:20:33.960 and Christian
00:20:34.440 nationalism were
00:20:35.280 and how they were
00:20:35.860 more dangerous than
00:20:36.580 Hamas.
00:20:37.300 So that was
00:20:37.680 certainly the idea
00:20:38.660 that was being
00:20:39.240 held when this
00:20:39.880 was written, even
00:20:40.420 though the title
00:20:40.980 was eventually
00:20:41.980 changed.
00:20:43.000 However, embracing
00:20:44.560 the darkest verses
00:20:45.620 of the Bible, okay,
00:20:46.860 so again, what parts
00:20:48.220 of the Bible do you
00:20:49.080 think that should be
00:20:49.960 followed?
00:20:50.380 Oh, I didn't realize
00:20:52.080 you were assembling
00:20:52.640 the canon.
00:20:53.360 It's good to know.
00:20:54.800 What ecumenical
00:20:56.040 council have you been
00:20:57.560 involved in, Brian?
00:20:58.680 None.
00:20:59.020 It just, I like
00:21:00.040 some parts when
00:21:01.400 they tell people
00:21:02.020 to do what I want
00:21:02.700 and I don't like
00:21:03.780 other parts when
00:21:04.500 they disagree with
00:21:05.200 me and so I'm
00:21:06.140 just going to bring
00:21:06.620 them up and call
00:21:07.160 people hypocrites
00:21:07.800 even though I
00:21:08.340 can't stick to
00:21:09.440 one understanding
00:21:10.680 of the Bible in
00:21:11.380 between paragraphs
00:21:12.120 in my own
00:21:12.560 article.
00:21:13.620 I'm waiting for
00:21:14.100 Mel Books to
00:21:14.660 break it.
00:21:15.020 He just makes
00:21:15.540 terrible references.
00:21:16.560 I'm sorry.
00:21:17.220 Continuing on.
00:21:18.260 The House of
00:21:18.900 Representatives now
00:21:19.980 run by Johnson
00:21:21.120 offers a discount
00:21:22.280 version of the
00:21:22.940 apocalyptic orgasm
00:21:24.620 the Holy Rollers
00:21:25.520 have been dreaming
00:21:26.060 of for years.
00:21:27.220 They've reviewed the
00:21:28.120 Inquisition and
00:21:28.700 seemed determined
00:21:29.220 to convert the
00:21:29.760 U.S. into a
00:21:30.220 theocracy run by
00:21:31.520 people who will
00:21:32.440 thump you with
00:21:32.980 the Bible but
00:21:33.600 haven't read much
00:21:34.540 of it.
00:21:36.080 Okay.
00:21:37.240 So I want to be
00:21:38.120 really clear.
00:21:39.980 What has Mike
00:21:40.740 Johnson done?
00:21:41.380 What's the terrible
00:21:42.320 thing that Mike
00:21:42.920 Johnson has done?
00:21:43.540 The horribly
00:21:44.040 unbiblical thing
00:21:45.020 that Mike Johnson
00:21:45.520 has done?
00:21:46.420 He has attempted
00:21:47.240 to separate Ukrainian
00:21:48.420 funding from
00:21:49.520 Israel funding.
00:21:51.280 Again, I don't
00:21:52.000 think we should be
00:21:52.440 funding either of
00:21:53.480 these countries but
00:21:54.460 that is the deep,
00:21:55.680 dark, dangerous
00:21:57.020 thing that he's
00:21:57.720 done.
00:21:58.120 And from this
00:21:59.640 idea, from this
00:22:00.800 fact that he
00:22:01.480 has separated
00:22:02.440 those two
00:22:03.540 funding bills
00:22:05.380 because he has
00:22:07.120 separated those
00:22:07.680 two spending
00:22:08.260 items, from
00:22:09.880 that we can
00:22:10.420 infer that he
00:22:11.820 is attempting
00:22:12.480 to create a
00:22:13.480 discount version
00:22:14.240 of an
00:22:14.640 apocalyptic
00:22:15.980 orgasm and
00:22:18.080 that he has
00:22:19.020 decided to
00:22:20.080 renew an
00:22:21.100 Inquisition to
00:22:22.960 establish a
00:22:23.920 theocracy.
00:22:24.580 How did we
00:22:27.420 get that out
00:22:28.020 of separating
00:22:29.460 two spending
00:22:30.280 bills?
00:22:31.160 Look, I
00:22:31.640 understand that
00:22:32.600 it's the
00:22:32.960 left's job to
00:22:34.620 rile its
00:22:35.560 base up.
00:22:36.440 I understand
00:22:37.000 that it's
00:22:37.620 their job to
00:22:38.940 look, you're
00:22:40.140 winning everything.
00:22:41.360 The left
00:22:41.920 controls schools,
00:22:43.140 they control the
00:22:43.720 government, they
00:22:44.440 control law
00:22:45.000 enforcement, they
00:22:45.960 control corporations,
00:22:47.140 they control
00:22:47.440 media, they
00:22:49.240 control all this
00:22:49.900 stuff.
00:22:50.200 You've got to
00:22:51.060 work really
00:22:51.780 hard to
00:22:52.960 make it sound
00:22:53.680 like the
00:22:54.120 other side
00:22:54.960 is a
00:22:56.840 terrible threat
00:22:58.060 to you.
00:22:58.940 You've got to
00:22:59.640 work really
00:23:00.180 hard to
00:23:01.140 pretend like
00:23:01.900 these people
00:23:02.400 are wielding
00:23:03.400 power.
00:23:05.020 But it's
00:23:06.180 on another
00:23:07.240 level to be
00:23:07.960 like, well,
00:23:08.400 because they
00:23:08.880 wanted to
00:23:09.300 fund Israel
00:23:09.780 but not
00:23:10.160 Ukraine, that
00:23:10.860 probably means
00:23:11.600 they're working
00:23:12.140 for a
00:23:12.600 theocracy.
00:23:15.620 That's a
00:23:16.240 level of
00:23:16.720 propaganda.
00:23:17.660 I mean,
00:23:17.900 again, I'm a
00:23:18.520 recovering journalist,
00:23:19.660 you know, I'm
00:23:19.920 trying to make
00:23:20.360 amends to the
00:23:20.820 people I've
00:23:21.200 hurt, I'm
00:23:22.300 confessing the
00:23:23.160 things that I've
00:23:23.700 done, I'm
00:23:24.100 working through
00:23:25.460 the steps, but
00:23:27.020 even I have to
00:23:29.820 look at this and
00:23:30.480 are just like, oh
00:23:31.060 man, I blush a
00:23:32.420 little looking at
00:23:33.040 this.
00:23:33.360 It's just the
00:23:33.800 raw unfiltered
00:23:36.180 ideological
00:23:37.440 rapidness that
00:23:40.240 just comes out
00:23:40.840 of this is
00:23:41.500 amazing.
00:23:43.000 And let's
00:23:43.740 see, he
00:23:44.580 continues here
00:23:45.560 attempting to
00:23:46.080 pretend like he
00:23:46.680 cares about the
00:23:47.260 Bible.
00:23:47.960 Lord, how
00:23:48.960 they love to
00:23:49.760 preach fire and
00:23:50.720 brimstone, but
00:23:51.780 the sermon on
00:23:52.340 the Mount of
00:23:52.860 the Beatitudes,
00:23:53.640 forget it, Matthew
00:23:54.700 25, 40, whatever
00:23:56.100 you did for one of
00:23:57.480 the least of these
00:23:59.040 brothers and
00:23:59.920 sisters of mine, you
00:24:00.800 did for me, not a
00:24:01.820 chance.
00:24:02.260 They've embraced only
00:24:03.040 the Old Testament
00:24:03.600 angry God and the
00:24:04.800 apocalyptic parts of
00:24:06.720 Revelation brought on
00:24:08.260 by ergo poisoning.
00:24:10.240 I'd like to remind
00:24:11.040 you again that the
00:24:11.720 only thing he's
00:24:12.740 talked about that the
00:24:13.700 Republicans have
00:24:14.480 done, the only thing
00:24:15.280 he's talked about that
00:24:16.580 Mike Johnson has done
00:24:17.580 is tried to
00:24:18.480 separate Ukrainian
00:24:19.240 funding from
00:24:19.840 Israeli funding.
00:24:20.900 That's it.
00:24:21.660 That's it.
00:24:22.040 He hasn't talked
00:24:22.400 about anything else.
00:24:23.360 He hasn't talked
00:24:23.760 about social issues
00:24:24.840 and talked about
00:24:26.020 gay marriage or
00:24:27.200 trans stuff or
00:24:28.340 anything.
00:24:30.020 He hasn't talked
00:24:30.800 about any of this
00:24:31.320 stuff.
00:24:32.020 The only thing he's
00:24:32.480 talked about is
00:24:33.100 funding Ukraine.
00:24:34.840 So apparently
00:24:35.360 funding Ukraine is
00:24:37.200 exactly what Matthew
00:24:38.740 25, 40 was talking
00:24:39.960 about.
00:24:40.600 It turns out the
00:24:41.440 Sermon on the Mount
00:24:42.140 was really about
00:24:43.200 Ukrainian funding.
00:24:44.200 And if you're not
00:24:45.380 for that, then
00:24:46.720 really you're only
00:24:47.640 about the God of
00:24:48.540 the Old Testament.
00:24:49.280 Now, I don't know
00:24:50.820 if anybody should
00:24:51.360 tell him, but the
00:24:52.720 God of the Old
00:24:53.340 Testament is also
00:24:55.500 the God of the
00:24:56.240 New Testament.
00:24:58.040 They're not two
00:24:59.420 different gods.
00:25:00.220 It's not a different
00:25:01.040 thing.
00:25:02.320 But, you know,
00:25:02.940 again, pretending to
00:25:05.140 have read the Bible,
00:25:05.840 pretending he cares
00:25:06.360 about Christianity,
00:25:07.820 this is what you'd
00:25:08.780 expect, I guess.
00:25:10.500 And this is also
00:25:11.480 like what I love
00:25:12.580 about kind of
00:25:13.860 these DC
00:25:14.620 progressives.
00:25:15.420 They have such a
00:25:16.160 cartoonish understanding
00:25:17.280 of any kind of
00:25:18.380 religion.
00:25:18.900 They just can't be
00:25:19.680 bothered.
00:25:20.320 They assume they're
00:25:21.080 automatically just
00:25:22.080 smarter than any
00:25:23.220 Christian they've ever
00:25:24.300 interacted with.
00:25:25.600 They just assume that
00:25:26.500 every Christian is
00:25:27.540 kind of this
00:25:28.960 toothless hick that
00:25:30.380 they've seen a
00:25:31.340 cartoon of somewhere
00:25:32.400 on TV.
00:25:34.320 And so, like, they
00:25:35.080 just construct
00:25:35.840 entirely, like,
00:25:36.640 straw man after
00:25:37.160 straw man after
00:25:37.760 straw man, burning
00:25:38.660 it down and being
00:25:39.280 like, ha, ha, ha,
00:25:39.980 ha, these idiots,
00:25:41.500 these rubes, look
00:25:42.260 what we've done to
00:25:42.880 them.
00:25:43.080 How could they
00:25:43.480 possibly come back
00:25:44.240 from this?
00:25:44.660 It's, it's, it's
00:25:45.760 read an atheism on a
00:25:46.840 whole nother scale.
00:25:48.180 They want no
00:25:48.940 separation of church
00:25:49.740 and state.
00:25:50.280 Again, I remind
00:25:51.120 you, they just
00:25:53.820 talked about
00:25:54.180 separating Israeli
00:25:55.180 and Ukrainian war
00:25:56.220 funding.
00:25:57.240 That's it.
00:25:58.520 But, but by the
00:25:59.340 way, there is no
00:25:59.980 separate thing as
00:26:00.620 such thing as
00:26:01.300 separation of church
00:26:01.940 and state, but
00:26:02.680 I've talked about
00:26:03.160 that at length, too.
00:26:04.060 I won't get into
00:26:04.760 that right now.
00:26:06.060 They want an
00:26:06.460 isolationist country
00:26:07.620 surrounded by walls
00:26:08.540 and dedicated to
00:26:09.620 the proposition that
00:26:11.020 the first amendment
00:26:11.840 guarantees them the
00:26:12.920 right to worship
00:26:13.480 any way they want
00:26:14.800 while forcing the
00:26:15.440 rest of us to
00:26:16.020 worship the way
00:26:16.640 they choose.
00:26:18.300 I mean,
00:26:20.060 free force of
00:26:20.620 that's pretty
00:26:21.060 based.
00:26:22.760 Like, yes, I
00:26:23.960 would prefer a
00:26:24.920 United States that
00:26:25.760 did not involve
00:26:26.640 itself with every
00:26:28.320 country in the
00:26:29.080 world.
00:26:29.920 I think it's good
00:26:31.280 actually that you
00:26:32.020 take care of your
00:26:32.580 country and you
00:26:33.320 don't go around
00:26:34.040 trying to invade or
00:26:35.340 regime change every
00:26:37.080 other country under
00:26:37.900 the sun.
00:26:38.860 I would like a
00:26:39.920 wall that protects
00:26:40.600 my country.
00:26:41.380 Walls protect
00:26:42.000 countries.
00:26:42.520 They have for a
00:26:44.080 very long time.
00:26:44.940 If you don't think
00:26:45.360 walls work, you
00:26:46.100 should ask the
00:26:46.760 Byzantines.
00:26:47.820 They worked pretty
00:26:48.580 well for a very
00:26:49.180 long time.
00:26:51.200 Dedicated to the
00:26:51.800 idea that the
00:26:52.180 first amendment
00:26:52.540 guarantees them the
00:26:53.260 right to worship
00:26:53.940 any way they want.
00:26:54.760 Yes, because it
00:26:56.280 does explicitly.
00:26:58.560 That's its purpose.
00:27:00.140 Why would we need
00:27:00.740 to pretend it's
00:27:01.220 anything else?
00:27:02.480 I mean, it can't be
00:27:03.640 more clear, almost as
00:27:04.700 clear as the second
00:27:05.300 amendment, but, you
00:27:06.140 know, I don't like
00:27:07.100 that one either.
00:27:07.500 Now, the last
00:27:08.260 part, while forcing
00:27:08.880 the rest of us to
00:27:09.500 worship the way
00:27:09.920 they choose.
00:27:10.340 No, not really.
00:27:11.560 It's fine.
00:27:12.720 I don't want your
00:27:14.420 terrible values to
00:27:15.880 infect my family.
00:27:17.380 I don't want your
00:27:17.880 terrible values to
00:27:18.880 harm children.
00:27:20.220 I would prefer that
00:27:21.220 you keep all that
00:27:22.340 stuff away from the
00:27:24.040 institutions that
00:27:24.960 shape my society, and
00:27:26.880 I'm more than happy
00:27:27.460 to fight to make
00:27:28.440 sure that you don't
00:27:28.960 have control of
00:27:29.540 the institutions, but
00:27:30.860 I have no interest in
00:27:31.820 converting you at the
00:27:32.520 port of the sword.
00:27:33.340 You know, your soul is
00:27:34.900 between you and God.
00:27:35.740 You don't have to
00:27:36.400 convert at the
00:27:40.260 point of the AR-15
00:27:41.680 or anything.
00:27:42.300 That's not, I don't
00:27:43.820 think, anything that
00:27:44.560 most right-wingers are
00:27:45.880 pushing for.
00:27:46.320 They just would like
00:27:47.060 you to stop, you
00:27:48.480 know, trying to force
00:27:49.440 gender transitions on
00:27:50.600 children.
00:27:51.040 That's really what
00:27:52.660 they're looking for
00:27:53.220 there.
00:27:54.980 While the age of
00:27:55.920 enlightenment led men,
00:27:57.160 after hundreds of
00:27:57.980 years of bloody
00:27:58.780 crusades, to give up
00:28:00.500 on state religions and
00:28:01.740 have a direct
00:28:02.420 inspiration for a
00:28:04.760 bill of rights, modern
00:28:05.740 Republicans seem
00:28:06.540 hell-bent on returning
00:28:07.420 to the Middle Ages,
00:28:08.400 driven there by the
00:28:09.020 first Christian
00:28:10.320 nationalist House
00:28:11.180 speaker.
00:28:11.620 All right, so I
00:28:13.300 said I wasn't going
00:28:13.840 to talk about
00:28:14.560 separation of church
00:28:15.620 and state, but I
00:28:16.140 was wrong, because
00:28:16.660 we have to talk
00:28:17.220 about it here.
00:28:17.840 All right, so this
00:28:18.560 is, I'm going
00:28:21.000 through the final
00:28:21.620 edits of my book,
00:28:23.300 you know, the total
00:28:24.700 state.
00:28:25.240 It's going to be out
00:28:25.940 next year, probably
00:28:27.440 early next year.
00:28:28.560 I'll give you more
00:28:29.100 details as it comes
00:28:29.900 out, but I'm
00:28:30.860 nailing down a good
00:28:33.400 chunk of my book
00:28:34.600 is nailing down
00:28:35.260 arguments against
00:28:36.320 this paragraph right
00:28:38.540 here, and it's nice
00:28:39.540 that this paragraph is
00:28:40.380 assembled here for me,
00:28:41.280 because then I don't
00:28:41.740 have to feel like I
00:28:42.300 straw-manned the
00:28:43.680 arguments that I kind
00:28:44.920 of brought against the
00:28:45.840 left in that book.
00:28:47.420 So let's start with
00:28:48.400 the age of
00:28:49.040 enlightenment led men
00:28:50.140 after hundreds of
00:28:50.800 years of bloody
00:28:51.280 crusades to give up
00:28:52.600 on state religions.
00:28:54.040 No, it didn't.
00:28:54.920 No, it didn't at all,
00:28:56.020 actually.
00:28:56.500 So first, the age of
00:28:58.120 enlightenment did not
00:28:59.100 get rid of state
00:28:59.820 and religions.
00:29:00.600 In fact, most states
00:29:01.720 had in America
00:29:03.240 a state religion.
00:29:04.760 They had a state
00:29:05.640 church, so the age
00:29:07.500 of enlightenment did
00:29:08.100 not get rid of that
00:29:09.220 necessarily.
00:29:10.600 Post-enlightenment
00:29:11.480 countries continued to
00:29:12.940 have that explicitly.
00:29:15.480 There weren't just
00:29:16.860 hundreds of years of
00:29:18.120 bloody crusades.
00:29:19.020 Religious wars were,
00:29:21.760 you know, not just
00:29:23.220 some Christian thing,
00:29:24.260 and they didn't just
00:29:24.740 happen during the
00:29:25.300 crusades, but of
00:29:25.960 course, liberals only
00:29:27.780 have, like, a couple
00:29:29.240 of events that have
00:29:29.980 ever happened in human
00:29:30.800 history.
00:29:31.100 They just walk
00:29:32.200 through them, and
00:29:32.780 they've got the
00:29:33.180 McNuggets of
00:29:33.880 history, and once
00:29:34.640 they assemble them
00:29:35.800 in the right order,
00:29:36.520 they're sure that
00:29:36.940 their worldview is
00:29:37.580 correct.
00:29:38.860 And we certainly
00:29:40.080 didn't give up on
00:29:42.180 state religions
00:29:43.340 because we have one
00:29:45.340 now.
00:29:46.580 There's a reason that
00:29:47.600 the concept of the
00:29:48.640 cathedral, I know
00:29:49.380 some people don't
00:29:49.960 like the name of
00:29:50.660 the concept,
00:29:51.560 whatever, sub-in,
00:29:52.540 whatever you want,
00:29:53.060 the deep state,
00:29:53.920 the, you know,
00:29:55.040 the regime, whatever,
00:29:56.860 the total state.
00:29:57.900 That's my personal
00:29:59.180 coinage.
00:29:59.600 But there's a
00:30:00.900 reason that this
00:30:02.280 idea gathered
00:30:04.740 steam, because
00:30:05.500 people started to
00:30:06.340 understand that
00:30:07.560 getting rid of
00:30:08.180 Christianity didn't
00:30:09.120 mean not having a
00:30:10.280 state religion.
00:30:11.400 Every state has a
00:30:12.620 religion.
00:30:13.480 All politics is
00:30:15.220 ultimately theological
00:30:16.700 in nature.
00:30:17.480 Your relationship to
00:30:18.480 the divine is
00:30:19.840 mirrored in your
00:30:20.480 relationship to the
00:30:21.800 sovereign.
00:30:22.700 That does not mean
00:30:23.600 that the sovereign is
00:30:24.300 divine, or that, you
00:30:25.620 know, they're not the
00:30:26.540 same thing, but
00:30:27.500 those things are
00:30:28.980 inseparable at some
00:30:31.220 level.
00:30:32.020 And you will always
00:30:33.240 have people seeing a
00:30:35.500 worldview, a religious
00:30:37.700 idea, whether you call
00:30:39.180 it a religious idea or
00:30:40.340 not, reflected in the
00:30:43.020 institutions of the
00:30:45.020 nation.
00:30:46.280 Whether we like it or
00:30:47.360 not, people follow
00:30:49.040 institutions as if they
00:30:50.880 were divinely ordained.
00:30:52.460 I know that's gross and
00:30:53.320 nicky for some people,
00:30:54.100 but it's also human
00:30:54.900 nature and you're not
00:30:55.640 getting rid of it.
00:30:56.260 So if that's true, and
00:30:58.320 that's perpetually true,
00:30:59.680 and the age of reason
00:31:00.280 didn't magically
00:31:01.200 sprinkle brain dust on
00:31:02.860 a bunch of peasant
00:31:03.980 rubes and turn them
00:31:05.040 into enlightened
00:31:06.160 intellectuals, if
00:31:07.800 instead human nature
00:31:08.740 stayed more or less
00:31:09.640 the same and we just
00:31:10.720 repurpose the language,
00:31:12.480 which is exactly what
00:31:13.440 happened, by the way.
00:31:14.720 Again, more
00:31:16.120 explanation coming in
00:31:17.080 the book.
00:31:17.960 But if that's the
00:31:18.800 case, then that means
00:31:20.340 that we still have a
00:31:21.780 state religion and that
00:31:22.940 state religion is, well,
00:31:24.660 it's progressivism.
00:31:25.720 We have an atheistic
00:31:27.040 theocracy in the United
00:31:28.520 States right now.
00:31:29.740 So this convenient
00:31:31.340 idea that we have
00:31:32.980 discarded all
00:31:34.320 religious ideas, we
00:31:35.880 no longer have faith,
00:31:36.880 everything is
00:31:37.540 enlightened men who
00:31:38.880 have given up these
00:31:40.000 bloody crusades.
00:31:40.880 No, actually, you're
00:31:42.340 arguing for bloody
00:31:43.380 crusades right now in
00:31:44.780 Ukraine.
00:31:45.780 It's literally what this
00:31:46.960 article is about.
00:31:47.700 You complaining about
00:31:48.560 the fact that some
00:31:49.620 Republicans don't want
00:31:50.720 to fund your current
00:31:51.920 bloody crusade.
00:31:52.780 But, you know, you
00:31:54.040 just rearrange the
00:31:54.980 language, you pretend
00:31:56.940 like the priorities are
00:31:57.740 slightly different, and
00:31:58.820 all of a sudden you
00:31:59.520 don't have to believe
00:32:00.660 that you're one of
00:32:01.480 these suckers who
00:32:02.540 fell for religion.
00:32:04.640 So, and it was a
00:32:06.900 direct inspiration for
00:32:07.960 our Bill of Rights.
00:32:09.780 Modern Republicans seem
00:32:11.480 hell-bent on returning
00:32:12.240 to the Middle Ages, driven
00:32:13.260 by the first Christian
00:32:14.160 Nationalist House
00:32:14.760 Speaker.
00:32:15.220 I'm pretty sure that
00:32:16.080 Johnson has not
00:32:17.080 declared himself a
00:32:17.960 Christian Nationalist of
00:32:18.720 any kind.
00:32:19.140 but also the idea
00:32:21.440 that the Bill of
00:32:22.240 Rights kept you from
00:32:23.980 having any form of
00:32:25.140 Christian values in
00:32:26.760 your government is
00:32:28.760 insane, and that's
00:32:29.680 really all most
00:32:30.680 Christian Nationalists
00:32:31.460 are talking about.
00:32:32.800 They just want the
00:32:33.820 Bible, or Christianity
00:32:35.080 in general, to inform
00:32:36.700 the morality that their
00:32:38.380 laws will be based on.
00:32:39.520 All laws are based on
00:32:40.680 morality.
00:32:41.160 All laws are the
00:32:42.420 enforcement of
00:32:43.200 shared morality, guys.
00:32:45.040 Sorry, that's just the
00:32:46.160 way that it works.
00:32:47.540 Back to the article
00:32:48.200 here.
00:32:48.480 The First Amendment's
00:32:49.380 Establishment Clause
00:32:50.260 prohibits the government
00:32:50.980 from making any law
00:32:51.880 respecting the
00:32:52.520 establishment of
00:32:53.320 religion.
00:32:54.320 That not only forgives
00:32:55.180 the government from
00:32:55.780 establishing an official
00:32:56.880 religion, but also
00:32:57.520 prohibits government
00:32:58.020 actions that are duly
00:32:59.120 favored one religion
00:33:00.000 over another.
00:33:01.900 No, it doesn't.
00:33:02.880 That hasn't been...
00:33:03.680 I mean, there is the
00:33:05.540 attempt to make that
00:33:07.000 the interpretation now.
00:33:08.320 That was not the
00:33:08.760 interpretation through
00:33:09.660 the most of American
00:33:10.800 history.
00:33:11.260 It was well understood
00:33:11.800 that Christianity was
00:33:13.640 the religion of the
00:33:15.960 land, that it was the
00:33:16.980 traditional religion of
00:33:17.920 the people in the
00:33:18.860 land.
00:33:19.240 You might have
00:33:19.720 slightly different
00:33:20.420 varieties.
00:33:21.880 You know, Protestantism
00:33:22.700 dominated, but you
00:33:23.740 might have others like
00:33:24.600 Catholicism, but that
00:33:26.320 this was the majority
00:33:27.640 religion and therefore
00:33:28.720 deserved a pride of
00:33:31.340 place among beliefs in
00:33:33.500 the United States.
00:33:34.220 This was not a problem
00:33:35.180 until relatively recently
00:33:36.560 in constitutional law.
00:33:38.380 But, you know, again,
00:33:39.880 we just have to pretend
00:33:41.120 that basically the
00:33:42.660 Constitution was written
00:33:43.440 to ban all religions
00:33:44.820 except, of course,
00:33:45.640 progressivism, which is
00:33:46.840 allowed to be taught
00:33:47.520 in every school.
00:33:48.360 In fact, it must be
00:33:49.000 taught in every school
00:33:50.220 and every government
00:33:50.860 agency.
00:33:51.460 It must be enforced
00:33:52.520 at the point of the
00:33:53.780 sword by the state.
00:33:55.480 We certainly have a
00:33:56.400 state religion.
00:33:57.020 We just call it
00:33:57.800 progressivism.
00:34:00.100 Representative Jamie
00:34:01.060 Raskin of Maryland,
00:34:02.160 a constitutional scholar,
00:34:03.320 says that there are
00:34:04.060 solid reasons for this
00:34:05.700 much debated and
00:34:06.680 carefully written
00:34:07.300 clause.
00:34:08.200 Framers taught us that
00:34:09.320 the biggest threat to
00:34:10.280 religious freedom
00:34:10.940 comes from three
00:34:11.800 cats who try to
00:34:12.880 establish their own
00:34:13.640 sect over everyone
00:34:14.960 else.
00:34:15.360 That's why we have
00:34:15.980 two religious causes
00:34:16.760 in the First Amendment.
00:34:17.780 Actually, that's not
00:34:18.720 what they thought was
00:34:20.560 the most dangerous
00:34:22.000 threat to the United
00:34:23.180 States at all.
00:34:24.920 You know, one thing
00:34:25.460 they thought was a
00:34:26.160 dangerous threat to
00:34:27.400 the United States?
00:34:28.360 A standing army.
00:34:31.340 That was repeatedly
00:34:32.440 mentioned by multiple
00:34:34.180 founding fathers.
00:34:35.460 That a standing army
00:34:36.200 was a huge threat
00:34:37.700 to the United States
00:34:39.180 and that was a very
00:34:40.040 bad idea.
00:34:41.960 They were not worried
00:34:43.000 about religion.
00:34:43.660 That was not the
00:34:44.700 primary concern of
00:34:46.360 founding fathers.
00:34:47.380 In fact, you can
00:34:47.880 find several quotes
00:34:49.240 from a variety of
00:34:51.840 founding fathers
00:34:52.220 talking about the
00:34:52.940 centrality of religion
00:34:53.860 to the American
00:34:55.540 Constitution and its
00:34:57.580 continuance.
00:34:58.360 But again, why
00:34:59.700 bother?
00:35:00.220 Remember, I would like
00:35:01.140 to remind you again,
00:35:02.100 he has not pointed at
00:35:03.300 anything that Republicans
00:35:04.600 have done except not
00:35:05.820 want to fund Ukraine.
00:35:07.420 That's it.
00:35:08.560 All of this insane
00:35:09.880 hyperbole about
00:35:11.000 theological takeover
00:35:12.200 and Christian nationalism
00:35:13.240 and the destruction
00:35:14.700 of the of the
00:35:15.580 establishment clause.
00:35:17.120 He has not provided
00:35:18.240 a single a single
00:35:19.920 example of even a
00:35:22.140 Republican trying to
00:35:22.980 do any of this.
00:35:24.120 He's just been
00:35:24.960 blathering on about it
00:35:25.780 after complaining about
00:35:26.620 them not wanting to
00:35:27.300 fund Ukraine.
00:35:28.920 None of that matters
00:35:29.580 to the Republicans.
00:35:30.120 They revel in their
00:35:31.340 own chicanery.
00:35:32.620 Ooh, chicanery.
00:35:33.760 I would revel in
00:35:34.360 chicanery.
00:35:34.840 Let's be honest.
00:35:35.760 They despise free
00:35:36.900 thought and independence.
00:35:38.180 Absolutely, man.
00:35:38.960 All day.
00:35:39.360 Here we go.
00:35:39.760 And are happy to
00:35:41.040 play games with a
00:35:42.300 government shutdown.
00:35:43.380 Ah, the moderate
00:35:45.220 equivalent of fiddling
00:35:46.940 while it all burns.
00:35:48.480 Stay tuned, November
00:35:48.980 17th.
00:35:50.620 Stay tuned, November
00:35:51.580 17th.
00:35:52.120 The next shutdown
00:35:53.000 deadline is just
00:35:53.860 around the corner.
00:35:54.740 So if you don't want
00:35:55.520 to fund things, that
00:35:56.720 means you want a
00:35:57.300 theocracy.
00:35:58.480 That's actually just
00:35:59.360 been his consistent
00:36:00.020 argument, right?
00:36:00.740 He says, well, if you
00:36:01.340 don't want to fund
00:36:01.800 Ukraine, then you're a
00:36:04.300 you're a far right,
00:36:05.480 crazy Christian
00:36:06.180 theocrat.
00:36:06.760 And if you're a
00:36:08.120 Republican who says, I
00:36:08.960 would shut down the
00:36:09.540 government to keep it
00:36:10.560 from, say, printing
00:36:12.380 insane amounts of
00:36:13.180 money and shipping it
00:36:14.420 overseas or continuing
00:36:16.660 to fund, you know,
00:36:18.740 these insane causes that
00:36:20.960 are taught in my
00:36:21.380 schools.
00:36:21.800 If you're if you're
00:36:22.620 someone who's willing
00:36:23.360 to that, then you can
00:36:24.080 the only answer is you
00:36:25.060 must be looking to
00:36:26.240 shut down independent
00:36:27.060 thought, because if
00:36:28.020 there's one thing we
00:36:28.660 know about independent
00:36:29.500 thought, it only exists
00:36:31.160 inside government
00:36:32.060 schools.
00:36:32.640 isn't that amazing
00:36:35.000 that independent
00:36:35.560 thought comes from
00:36:36.780 government funding of
00:36:38.300 programs.
00:36:39.280 You can't have
00:36:39.940 independent thought if
00:36:41.300 taxes extracted from
00:36:43.200 the taxpayer are not
00:36:44.640 delivered to
00:36:45.320 institutions controlled
00:36:46.240 by the government.
00:36:49.000 Just amazing.
00:36:51.020 Absolutely amazing.
00:36:52.860 On a day that
00:36:53.400 Republicans were
00:36:54.040 mired in their own
00:36:54.980 gamesmanship, Israeli
00:36:56.320 airstrike targeted
00:36:57.360 Hamas commander in the
00:36:58.560 densely populated, I'm
00:37:00.480 not going to pretend I
00:37:01.100 can say that, refugees,
00:37:02.640 camp in northern
00:37:04.060 Gaza, and it left a
00:37:05.560 catastrophic damage that
00:37:06.740 killed hundreds of
00:37:07.460 people, according to
00:37:08.240 the medics and
00:37:08.780 eyewitnesses.
00:37:09.740 Children were seen
00:37:10.200 carrying other
00:37:11.180 children away from the
00:37:12.120 blast zone.
00:37:12.980 It felt like the end of
00:37:13.620 the world, one
00:37:14.280 surviving witness said.
00:37:15.580 So I'd like to be
00:37:16.640 really clear.
00:37:17.820 OK, let's let's be
00:37:18.760 really clear.
00:37:19.540 If you don't want to
00:37:21.500 fund the Ukrainian
00:37:22.560 war, then you are
00:37:24.900 responsible for
00:37:26.720 Israeli planes killing
00:37:28.660 Palestinian children.
00:37:32.640 That's that's the
00:37:34.180 that that's the
00:37:35.620 conclusion he draws
00:37:36.380 here, right?
00:37:37.020 That's if you are not
00:37:38.520 if you do not want to
00:37:40.160 fund endless war in
00:37:42.540 Ukraine, then you
00:37:44.120 might have might have
00:37:45.400 might have as well
00:37:47.180 might man, I promise I
00:37:49.140 can do a sentence.
00:37:49.900 Then you will have
00:37:51.180 basically just dropped a
00:37:52.780 bomb directly on
00:37:53.880 Palestinian children and
00:37:56.100 killed them.
00:37:56.920 This is our world today.
00:37:58.180 It took an asteroid the
00:37:59.340 size of a modern city to
00:38:00.580 wipe out the dinosaurs.
00:38:01.380 People are being are
00:38:02.600 being smarter.
00:38:03.560 People being smarter than
00:38:04.600 dinosaurs have figured
00:38:05.600 out how to destroy
00:38:06.240 everything all by
00:38:07.260 ourselves.
00:38:07.840 Climate change, of
00:38:09.140 course, climate change
00:38:09.860 is slowly creeping up on
00:38:11.320 us and we're killing
00:38:12.300 each other at an
00:38:13.360 increasing rate.
00:38:13.940 It took a category five
00:38:14.960 hurricane to kill 40
00:38:16.840 odd people in
00:38:18.040 a couple.
00:38:22.100 Sorry, in Acapulco last
00:38:23.860 week, we killed that
00:38:25.020 many in two mass
00:38:26.340 shootings in the US in
00:38:28.100 about the same amount
00:38:29.220 of time and spared the
00:38:30.960 property.
00:38:32.140 Pogo was right.
00:38:32.820 We have met the enemy
00:38:33.660 and the enemy is us.
00:38:36.000 So apparently this
00:38:38.080 Christian nationalism,
00:38:38.940 which has no power
00:38:41.200 and its only maneuver so
00:38:43.900 far seems to have been
00:38:44.980 attempting to not fund the
00:38:46.420 war in Ukraine, is
00:38:47.780 causing category five
00:38:49.260 hurricanes through climate
00:38:50.860 change.
00:38:53.840 Just stunning.
00:38:55.780 Donald Trump faces 91
00:38:57.080 felonies in four different
00:38:58.480 jurisdictions while facing
00:39:00.320 civil sanctions in New
00:39:01.380 York that could cost him a
00:39:02.760 large chunk of his
00:39:03.420 financial empire.
00:39:04.260 He's effectively also on
00:39:05.600 trial in Colorado as
00:39:07.600 that state tries to ban
00:39:09.820 him for the from the
00:39:11.640 ballot next year.
00:39:13.700 Isn't that a problem?
00:39:15.920 Is it?
00:39:16.620 I love that.
00:39:17.080 You know, like the like
00:39:17.820 the problem here is that
00:39:18.840 Donald Trump exists, not
00:39:20.140 that the government is
00:39:21.520 actively looking to ban
00:39:23.020 the most likely opponent of
00:39:25.720 the current president, like
00:39:27.560 you have a sitting
00:39:28.020 president who is actively
00:39:30.260 encouraging the
00:39:32.020 incarceration of his
00:39:34.000 of his political
00:39:35.360 opponents, who is
00:39:36.920 trying to get them
00:39:37.640 removed from ballots.
00:39:39.280 But that's not the
00:39:40.340 problem.
00:39:40.700 The problem is that
00:39:41.300 Donald Trump exists.
00:39:44.120 Joe Biden's popularity
00:39:45.100 continues to shrink
00:39:45.920 faster than unemployment,
00:39:47.820 threatening to make him
00:39:48.700 the 2024 equivalent of
00:39:50.480 Jimmy Carter, a one
00:39:51.740 term president who will
00:39:52.740 be admired after he
00:39:53.560 leaves office more than
00:39:54.480 he ever will ever was
00:39:56.360 while holding it.
00:39:57.920 Yeah, I mean, calling
00:39:58.900 calling Joe Biden,
00:40:01.780 Jimmy Carter is a pretty
00:40:02.460 good analogy, though.
00:40:04.180 The idea that Jimmy
00:40:04.880 Carter is well liked by
00:40:06.720 anybody who's not a
00:40:07.520 radical leftist is
00:40:09.020 pretty funny.
00:40:10.840 It's also kind of great
00:40:12.320 to understand that
00:40:13.720 Joe Biden's not well
00:40:16.480 loved by the left.
00:40:17.740 They understand the
00:40:18.640 problem here.
00:40:19.960 And that's the reason,
00:40:21.260 of course, that they're
00:40:21.820 trying to keep Trump
00:40:23.080 from being able to run.
00:40:24.080 They understand the
00:40:25.280 danger that he poses
00:40:26.260 and that he's not
00:40:28.020 going to have that
00:40:29.480 that if Trump is
00:40:30.600 allowed to run, it
00:40:32.740 looks like he's going
00:40:33.320 to win.
00:40:33.860 I mean, I don't know.
00:40:35.060 It's a long way from
00:40:36.180 here to there, guys.
00:40:36.960 They could they could
00:40:37.660 indict Trump.
00:40:38.760 They should could try
00:40:39.560 to imprison him.
00:40:40.300 They could strip him
00:40:41.000 from ballots.
00:40:42.180 I don't know.
00:40:43.440 I'm not going to make
00:40:44.340 any amazing predictions,
00:40:46.380 but I think he's got a
00:40:47.740 much better chance of
00:40:48.680 beating Biden if he's
00:40:50.460 allowed to run than a
00:40:52.480 lot of people think.
00:40:53.120 And yeah, I mean, they
00:40:53.900 you know, they did what
00:40:54.820 they did in the last
00:40:55.460 election.
00:40:55.860 So there's there's no
00:40:56.900 guarantees that even if
00:40:58.240 he's much more popular
00:40:59.740 that he'd actually secure
00:41:01.680 a legitimate win.
00:41:04.040 But, you know, that it's
00:41:06.100 very clear that they're
00:41:06.880 worried about it.
00:41:07.500 They wouldn't be putting
00:41:08.100 him through the ringer the
00:41:08.840 way they are if they
00:41:09.740 weren't.
00:41:10.900 Part of that is Biden's
00:41:11.800 fault.
00:41:12.120 Part of it is because
00:41:12.820 people like Mike Johnson
00:41:13.900 who claim he won't live in
00:41:14.860 a we don't live in a
00:41:16.260 democracy and that God
00:41:18.380 oversees our government.
00:41:19.420 So.
00:41:21.440 So to be clear
00:41:22.940 here.
00:41:24.680 First, he he's
00:41:26.600 insulting God again,
00:41:27.560 so he wants people to
00:41:28.560 make he wants people to
00:41:30.480 take the Bible seriously,
00:41:31.400 but he's insulting God
00:41:32.660 again.
00:41:32.880 And obviously he's
00:41:33.640 phrasing it this way to
00:41:34.380 insult Southerners.
00:41:35.760 No surprise there.
00:41:36.920 We are the most hated of
00:41:38.200 all of all Americans.
00:41:40.380 But on top of this, he
00:41:42.000 also puts in we don't
00:41:43.560 live in a democracy.
00:41:45.120 Now, here's a weird
00:41:46.880 moment where I'm going
00:41:47.620 to agree with him more
00:41:48.600 than I agree with most
00:41:50.100 conservatives.
00:41:51.100 I'm sorry, guys.
00:41:51.820 We do live in a
00:41:52.400 democracy.
00:41:53.820 That's unfortunate.
00:41:54.880 We shouldn't.
00:41:55.820 We should at the very
00:41:56.960 least live in a
00:41:57.520 constitutional republic,
00:41:58.660 though most people
00:41:59.620 cannot tell you the
00:42:00.200 difference between that
00:42:01.180 and a democracy.
00:42:02.560 But whatever we had as
00:42:04.220 a constitutional
00:42:04.680 republic has worn
00:42:05.640 away at this point.
00:42:07.040 We are more or less
00:42:08.720 a just a representative
00:42:10.240 democracy in pretty
00:42:11.700 much every way.
00:42:12.600 And so I think it is
00:42:15.100 sadly more of a
00:42:16.360 delusion of conservatives
00:42:17.380 trying to hold on to
00:42:18.420 an idea of what
00:42:19.740 American government
00:42:20.340 once was to say that
00:42:22.180 we don't live in a
00:42:22.780 democracy than it is to
00:42:24.140 just be honest about
00:42:25.620 kind of where we're at.
00:42:26.820 Doesn't mean you
00:42:27.300 shouldn't want to seek
00:42:28.000 to change that.
00:42:29.540 Doesn't mean that there
00:42:30.500 isn't a better way
00:42:31.140 forward.
00:42:31.920 But it's pretty clear
00:42:32.820 that at the moment,
00:42:33.980 for better or for worse,
00:42:35.160 we are living in a
00:42:36.980 democracy.
00:42:38.380 You might think that
00:42:39.120 all this would be
00:42:40.380 serious food for
00:42:41.340 thought in the
00:42:42.820 news, but people
00:42:43.640 are so tired of
00:42:44.400 thinking about life
00:42:45.440 on the razor's edge
00:42:46.340 that most news
00:42:47.260 seems about as
00:42:48.000 palatable as raw
00:42:48.820 sewage, which is
00:42:49.720 also all too
00:42:50.500 accurate metaphor.
00:42:51.300 Well, man, one
00:42:52.020 reason might be that
00:42:52.840 you're screeching at
00:42:53.820 the top of your lungs
00:42:54.840 about a theocracy
00:42:56.360 because somebody
00:42:57.500 didn't vote for
00:42:58.220 funding in Ukraine.
00:43:00.540 You might be the
00:43:01.540 problem, Brian.
00:43:02.760 You might need to
00:43:03.780 be the change you
00:43:04.560 want to see in the
00:43:05.380 world.
00:43:05.880 As a journalist,
00:43:06.820 you are the one
00:43:07.780 spreading this
00:43:08.860 insane hyperbolic
00:43:10.180 propaganda, trying to
00:43:11.580 pretend like there's
00:43:12.240 this insane vision
00:43:13.220 abased world just
00:43:14.120 around the corner
00:43:14.900 while actually living
00:43:17.320 in this kind of
00:43:18.260 progressive dystopian
00:43:19.460 hellhole, and you're
00:43:21.580 just screaming at the
00:43:22.200 top of your lungs
00:43:22.680 saying, well, if you
00:43:23.600 don't want to send
00:43:24.420 another $100 billion
00:43:25.440 to Ukraine, you
00:43:26.600 must be an agent
00:43:27.320 of Putin and must be
00:43:29.500 a crazy theocrat
00:43:31.100 trying to take over
00:43:32.200 the world.
00:43:32.640 It's not surprising
00:43:34.360 that people might
00:43:35.220 stop reading your
00:43:36.560 garbage, treating it
00:43:37.900 as raw sewage.
00:43:39.220 You are producing
00:43:40.320 it.
00:43:41.240 Our problem in the
00:43:42.460 press is that we
00:43:43.200 have so few people
00:43:44.720 with the experience
00:43:45.980 and education to
00:43:46.660 handle the serious
00:43:47.980 issues facing us.
00:43:51.260 Amazing.
00:43:52.540 Amazing.
00:43:53.340 He thinks he's one
00:43:54.160 of the smart ones.
00:43:55.600 He thinks he's one
00:43:56.400 of the ones telling
00:43:57.040 the truth.
00:43:57.960 He thinks he's one
00:43:59.000 of the experienced
00:43:59.640 and educated ones.
00:44:01.700 Beautiful.
00:44:03.220 So whether it's a
00:44:04.560 possible world war,
00:44:05.780 stochotic terrorism,
00:44:07.140 man, I love how
00:44:09.040 that term got
00:44:09.580 invented six months
00:44:10.440 ago, Christian
00:44:11.360 theocracy, climate
00:44:12.400 change, Donald
00:44:13.240 Trump or our own
00:44:14.160 government or
00:44:16.200 something else
00:44:16.600 unforeseen for most
00:44:17.840 people.
00:44:18.620 It's time.
00:44:19.560 It's a time of
00:44:20.040 trepidation and
00:44:21.360 terror.
00:44:22.400 Yes.
00:44:22.780 A time of
00:44:23.280 trepidation and
00:44:24.060 terror.
00:44:24.320 All right.
00:44:24.520 So he continues on
00:44:26.020 a little more.
00:44:26.520 He talks about bread
00:44:27.200 and circuses, but for
00:44:28.300 a paragraph or two,
00:44:29.460 but you get the idea.
00:44:30.880 We're in a terrible
00:44:31.840 state because somewhere
00:44:32.960 somebody doesn't want
00:44:33.960 to spend another
00:44:35.060 hundred billion
00:44:35.540 dollars on Ukraine.
00:44:36.520 And if you are one
00:44:37.180 of those people,
00:44:37.740 then you must be
00:44:39.120 lining up behind our
00:44:40.040 new Christian
00:44:41.240 nationalist speaker,
00:44:42.680 Mike Johnson, in
00:44:43.880 the hopes of
00:44:44.560 overturning democracy.
00:44:45.960 Oh, please.
00:44:46.500 Oh, please.
00:44:46.860 Oh, please.
00:44:47.760 And otherwise
00:44:48.840 getting rid of the
00:44:50.820 Establishment Clause,
00:44:51.760 the First Amendment,
00:44:52.840 all of the all of
00:44:53.500 these terrible
00:44:54.440 things.
00:44:55.580 You know, you must
00:44:56.680 be a stochastic
00:44:57.320 terrorist if you are
00:44:58.720 not on board.
00:45:00.080 You might even be
00:45:00.960 done, done, done,
00:45:02.180 a Donald Trump
00:45:03.060 voter.
00:45:03.980 All right, guys.
00:45:05.420 Well, that was fun.
00:45:06.760 Let's go ahead and
00:45:07.940 move over to the
00:45:09.360 questions of the people
00:45:10.100 here.
00:45:10.340 Looks like we've got a
00:45:11.060 few super chats.
00:45:14.180 Connor O'Hare for
00:45:15.440 ten dollars.
00:45:16.280 They fear it because
00:45:17.080 they know deep down
00:45:18.420 that's what it would
00:45:19.540 take to tame their
00:45:20.980 narcissistic worldview.
00:45:22.720 Yeah, Connor, I
00:45:23.700 think you might be
00:45:25.200 right about that.
00:45:26.640 They know how insane
00:45:28.760 their worldview is.
00:45:29.620 They know how they
00:45:31.040 have this kind of
00:45:32.560 inversion of the
00:45:33.760 natural hierarchy,
00:45:34.800 how artificial and
00:45:35.800 fake the world that
00:45:36.780 they're trying to
00:45:37.200 prop up is.
00:45:38.800 And because of that,
00:45:39.620 they understand that
00:45:40.840 they've entrenched
00:45:42.840 themselves with a lot
00:45:43.840 of power, a lot of
00:45:44.680 money, a lot of
00:45:45.360 status.
00:45:45.920 And they realize,
00:45:47.340 even if they lie to
00:45:48.520 themselves about kind
00:45:49.760 of the threat of
00:45:51.160 Christian nationalism or
00:45:52.340 theocracy or whatever,
00:45:53.580 they realize that big
00:45:55.080 changes would have to
00:45:56.160 come for this to
00:45:58.120 kind of stop, to have
00:46:00.720 their worldview no
00:46:01.980 longer reigned over
00:46:02.740 people.
00:46:03.140 And they're scared
00:46:03.760 about that.
00:46:04.340 And I think you're
00:46:05.000 right about that.
00:46:07.780 Mint $24.5, scared
00:46:10.440 of theocracy, worships
00:46:11.900 the religion of ethnic
00:46:13.240 minorities.
00:46:13.860 Remember, everyone, all
00:46:14.660 politics is inherently
00:46:16.160 theocratic.
00:46:17.400 I mean, yeah, it's very
00:46:18.380 clear that there are a
00:46:20.960 number of sacred cows
00:46:22.800 in the current political
00:46:25.360 theology of the left.
00:46:27.460 one of them is most
00:46:28.360 certainly the sacredness
00:46:32.420 of diversity.
00:46:33.940 And so they are very,
00:46:35.960 very unselfaware about
00:46:38.460 the ways in which
00:46:39.200 they've done this, even
00:46:39.840 though we can literally
00:46:40.720 remember, remember when
00:46:43.240 Nancy Pelosi and the
00:46:44.320 rest of the Democrats
00:46:47.360 ended up like dressing in
00:46:48.500 dashikis and literally
00:46:49.900 kneeling like in an act
00:46:52.660 of worship while wearing
00:46:54.200 ceremonial worship garb
00:46:57.460 it might be a religion
00:46:59.660 guys.
00:47:00.220 It might be.
00:47:01.500 I'm starting to get that
00:47:02.500 feeling.
00:47:04.080 Let's see.
00:47:06.220 Perspicacious heretic for
00:47:07.440 $10.
00:47:08.280 I'm relieved that some
00:47:09.040 conservatives have stayed
00:47:10.020 on message.
00:47:10.680 Too many have reverted
00:47:11.440 back to 2003 in the past
00:47:13.380 month and have lost sight
00:47:14.980 of the problems that are
00:47:15.640 actually involved in
00:47:16.480 our national interest.
00:47:17.480 Yeah, I appreciate you
00:47:18.740 saying that.
00:47:19.180 I think that's right.
00:47:20.040 You know, a lot of people
00:47:21.240 who were very against
00:47:23.980 Ukraine, who were very
00:47:25.680 against spending our money
00:47:26.940 in Ukraine, spending our
00:47:28.400 blood and treasure, the
00:47:29.780 you know, sending
00:47:30.700 American soldiers, young
00:47:32.280 men to fight and die in
00:47:33.640 this kind of thing.
00:47:35.040 People who had finally
00:47:36.100 kind of seen past a lot
00:47:37.360 of this stuff immediately
00:47:38.140 when things happened in
00:47:39.020 Israel, they're like, oh
00:47:39.700 my gosh, but we got to go
00:47:40.640 to war with Iran.
00:47:41.940 And it's like, oh, guys,
00:47:42.840 did we not learn anything?
00:47:44.400 And but it's nice to see
00:47:45.620 that some conservatives
00:47:46.780 have continued kind of
00:47:48.320 hold that understanding
00:47:49.360 that actually America
00:47:50.300 first actually means
00:47:51.600 Americans first.
00:47:53.220 It doesn't mean instead
00:47:55.260 our own personal, you
00:47:57.140 know, foreign
00:47:57.980 satrapy comes first.
00:48:00.040 Instead, it's actually
00:48:02.200 talking about the
00:48:03.200 citizens of the United
00:48:04.120 States and what's good
00:48:04.920 for them.
00:48:05.920 And so it has been nice
00:48:06.940 to see that.
00:48:07.560 Well, unfortunately,
00:48:08.700 many people did revert
00:48:09.920 back to kind of that,
00:48:10.940 you know, knee jerk
00:48:12.200 kind of neocon attitude
00:48:14.560 as soon as a country
00:48:16.460 they cared about more
00:48:17.960 was attacked.
00:48:19.200 It has been nice to see
00:48:20.060 that some have kind of
00:48:20.940 taken those lessons on
00:48:22.540 board and there is a
00:48:23.640 staunch wing of the
00:48:24.820 Republican Party or of
00:48:26.420 the conservative
00:48:26.960 commentariat that is
00:48:28.580 kind of holding the
00:48:29.280 line on some of that
00:48:30.060 stuff.
00:48:31.100 Let's see.
00:48:33.320 Mint 20 for $10.
00:48:35.720 Thank you very much.
00:48:36.700 The Crusades were based
00:48:37.620 on 100% justified
00:48:38.400 against the onslaught of
00:48:39.340 Islam.
00:48:40.040 Islam is allowed to
00:48:41.120 conquer almost all the
00:48:42.220 holy sites of
00:48:42.820 Christianity and convert
00:48:43.580 them.
00:48:44.080 But how dare Christians
00:48:44.980 fight back?
00:48:45.800 Yeah.
00:48:46.120 So obviously the so the
00:48:47.640 Crusades are complicated.
00:48:48.520 But the problem is,
00:48:50.880 of course, the Crusades
00:48:51.840 are complicated and
00:48:52.940 that's why the left
00:48:53.700 turns them into a
00:48:54.460 cartoon.
00:48:55.400 So the truth is
00:48:56.260 obviously that the Roman
00:48:57.900 Empire never completely
00:48:59.040 collapsed, that the
00:49:00.060 Eastern Roman Empire,
00:49:01.380 which was, you know,
00:49:02.620 the capital was moved
00:49:03.560 to the east by
00:49:04.620 Constantinople and
00:49:07.780 and that became the
00:49:09.760 the east became the
00:49:10.520 center of most of the
00:49:11.740 Roman Empire.
00:49:12.460 That's why the west
00:49:13.080 fell, but the east
00:49:14.020 continued.
00:49:14.980 The Byzantines never
00:49:16.120 would have called
00:49:16.660 themselves the Byzantines.
00:49:17.740 They would have just
00:49:18.180 called themselves the
00:49:18.840 Romans and they
00:49:20.280 controlled large
00:49:21.120 amounts of land in the
00:49:22.600 east, you know,
00:49:23.520 including places like
00:49:24.640 Syria.
00:49:25.040 You know, there is a
00:49:26.960 reason that so many of
00:49:28.620 the original Christian
00:49:30.460 countries, places like
00:49:31.640 Egypt, had a massive
00:49:32.780 you know, was a
00:49:33.860 Christian country, had a
00:49:34.580 massive Christian
00:49:35.040 population, still has a
00:49:36.780 Coptic Christians there.
00:49:38.520 That's because of the
00:49:39.880 Byzantine Empire.
00:49:41.060 And so when the
00:49:42.020 Crusades were first
00:49:43.420 formed, they were there
00:49:44.160 to defend Christendom,
00:49:46.200 including Byzantium,
00:49:48.800 the eastern Roman
00:49:49.840 Empire.
00:49:50.700 Now, the Crusaders
00:49:52.040 didn't always do what
00:49:53.280 they were supposed to.
00:49:54.020 Sometimes they actually
00:49:54.700 attacked Christians.
00:49:55.680 In one case, they even
00:49:56.500 tried to sack, you know,
00:49:57.620 Byzantium.
00:49:58.740 And so there's, you know,
00:50:01.200 it's complicated.
00:50:02.580 But the idea that the
00:50:03.560 Crusades were just in and
00:50:05.540 of themselves, these
00:50:06.300 completely unjustified
00:50:07.700 wars that Christians
00:50:10.120 came out of nowhere just
00:50:11.480 to assault Muslims is
00:50:12.760 insane.
00:50:13.100 Islam had been advancing
00:50:15.580 Mohammedans, as they were
00:50:16.800 called at the time, had
00:50:18.080 been advancing into
00:50:19.120 Christian territory and
00:50:20.000 conquering it, killing
00:50:20.780 Christians, enslaving for
00:50:22.340 a long time.
00:50:23.400 And it's totally reasonable
00:50:25.120 for Christians to defend
00:50:26.260 themselves, though not all
00:50:27.700 Christians who involve
00:50:28.920 themselves in that
00:50:30.120 defense behaved
00:50:31.500 accordingly.
00:50:31.900 But that's kind of how
00:50:32.820 war works, unfortunately.
00:50:34.640 We have hello for 99
00:50:36.560 cents over here.
00:50:37.760 It's just a donation.
00:50:38.880 Thank you very much.
00:50:39.420 Really appreciate that.
00:50:40.300 And mint 20 again for
00:50:43.420 two dollars.
00:50:44.120 Hashtag make Istanbul
00:50:45.380 Constantinople again.
00:50:47.120 Absolutely.
00:50:48.140 Once again, there should be
00:50:50.020 prayers said to the one
00:50:52.440 God in the Hagia Sophia.
00:50:54.940 I totally understand why
00:50:58.120 you would say make it
00:50:59.840 Constantinople again.
00:51:01.560 All right.
00:51:02.220 So I think we got everybody
00:51:03.700 there.
00:51:04.180 All right, guys, let's go
00:51:05.240 ahead and wrap this up.
00:51:07.780 Want to make sure I got
00:51:08.460 everybody.
00:51:08.920 OK, it looks like we're
00:51:09.740 good.
00:51:10.180 All right, guys, so we're
00:51:10.800 going to go ahead and wrap
00:51:11.320 this up.
00:51:11.780 Of course, if this is your

00:51:15.460 for coming by.
00:51:16.220 Please make sure that you

00:51:21.400 A lot of people are like,
00:51:22.080 I subscribe to you, but I
00:51:22.960 don't see when the streams
00:51:23.700 go live and I don't want to
00:51:24.540 miss them.
00:51:24.820 And it's like, yeah, because
00:51:25.860 YouTube is like, well, just
00:51:27.160 because you subscribe to
00:51:27.900 something doesn't mean you
00:51:28.440 actually want to see it.
00:51:29.420 So you have to go through
00:51:29.960 extra steps.
00:51:30.600 It's stupid.
00:51:31.280 I'm sorry about that.
00:51:32.100 Also, if you want to get
00:51:33.460 these broadcasts as
00:51:34.540 podcasts, make sure that
00:51:35.600 you go ahead and subscribe
00:51:36.220 to the Ari McIntyre show on
00:51:37.420 your favorite podcast
00:51:38.060 platform.
00:51:38.920 You can do that on Apple,
00:51:40.200 Spotify, all that stuff.
00:51:41.740 When you do, make sure that
00:51:42.700 you leave a rating or
00:51:43.540 review.
00:51:44.000 It helps with the algorithm.
00:51:46.120 All right, guys, thank you
