The Auron MacIntyre Show - Trump Is Losing His Greatest Advantage in Iran — Speed ｜ 3⧸12⧸26

00:00:00.000 the war in iran has entered its second week and the trump administration finds itself

00:00:11.800 navigating a complex narrative landscape most people expected the american military to dominate

00:00:17.460 and those expectations have been met seven american soldiers have died in the conflict so

00:00:22.500 far but the casualties and material damage inflicted on the iranian forces has been far

00:00:27.620 more devastating while many were surprised at the amount of damage that iran has been able to deal

00:00:33.000 to american allies in the middle east it's obvious that the country is ultimately outmatched

00:00:37.860 but the question at the start of the war was not whether the u.s had superior firepower but whether

00:00:43.480 the administration could maintain support long enough to achieve victory president trump's new

00:00:48.840 foreign policy has relied on limited but highly effective strikes rather than long occupations

00:00:54.860 now the administration is attempting to apply that paradigm to a more expansive conflict

00:00:59.700 while managing the expectations of the american people donald trump campaigned heavily on the idea

00:01:06.420 that extended regime change wars are bad for the united states the president was never an isolationist

00:01:12.840 but he made it clear that military actions should be limited competent and born of necessity despite

00:01:18.980 concerns from parts of his base trump has been able to project power while limiting engagement to single

00:01:24.260 bombing runs or midnight raids skeptics of foreign interventions still had their concerns but

00:01:30.100 constrained and impressively executed operations ultimately quieted those critiques that becomes

00:01:36.100 more and more difficult when the special military operation expands from hours to days or from days

00:01:42.980 to weeks or from weeks to months putting boots on the ground has become the most salient measure of

00:01:49.960 commitment if the operation remains purely a mixture of air and naval power the american public can

00:01:56.120 understand it as a limited engagement while the financial costs would still be enormous casualties are

00:02:02.520 likely to remain low americans won't enjoy the rising gas prices but some display of military might

00:02:09.400 followed by a quick exit would make it unlikely that the strikes become a long-term liability for the trump

00:02:16.120 administration whether he intended it or not the president has likely gambled the remainder of his

00:02:21.640 term on this fact hey guys we all have to read things digitally these days but i'm old school whenever i can

00:03:05.880 your subscription that's blaze unlimited.com slash oran frontier 40 for that discount both the iranians

00:03:13.080 and the administration are fully aware of the impact that ground troop deployments would have

00:03:18.440 on public support for the conflict that's why the iranian regime has repeatedly dared the

00:03:24.120 administration to deploy troops the leaders of iran don't really believe that they can win a direct

00:03:29.720 conflict with american ground forces but they are betting on the war losing support the minute the

00:03:35.720 first infantryman is accrued as a casualty george w bush initially enjoyed a powerful boost in

00:03:42.920 public support after launching a war but the country had endured a brutal loss during 9 11 and the

00:03:49.560 administration took the time to explain why that war was necessary obviously that didn't really go

00:03:56.440 as planned but at least at the time you understood the case even if there were giant flaws in it in

00:04:03.080 retrospect trump doesn't have a national tragedy to create that rally around the flag effect and his

00:04:10.120 administration didn't spend much time explaining the necessity of the war to the country that means

00:04:15.880 his narrative window of victory is far more narrow secretary of war pete hagseth is clearly aware of

00:04:23.960 this dynamic but he also understands that no one wins a war by telling his opponents what he won't do

00:04:31.240 while fully understanding the ramifications of putting boots on the ground the administration must keep the

00:04:36.760 option on the table or they're informing the iranians that holding out long enough will inevitably lead

00:04:42.840 to america giving up and going home practically that means that hegseth is repeatedly forced into

00:04:49.560 briefings and press conferences where he has to tell journalists that ground troop deployments remain

00:04:54.920 a possibility that creates an environment where splash headlines build anxiety by making ground troops

00:05:01.400 feel inevitable and the administration takes a public relations beating in each news cycle wars have

00:05:08.200 always featured a narrative battle to some degree but in the modern world the news doesn't just arrive

00:05:15.000 weeks later in the paper or even on the nightly television broadcast live updates bombard the cell

00:05:21.240 phones of the american public instantaneously turning the news cycle into a constant stream of narrative

00:05:28.040 skirmishes no one really doubts the superiority of the u.s military but as both iraq and afghanistan

00:05:34.840 proved military victory just isn't enough american troops were very effective in the initial toppling of

00:05:42.120 the regimes there but everyone remembers george w bush standing in front of a mission accomplished banner

00:05:48.920 with decades of nation building still in the country's future trump recently remarked that he thinks military

00:05:56.760 operations in iran are almost complete and that's a good sign the supreme leader is dead along with

00:06:03.640 many of iran's key leaders the naval and air capacity of the nation has been severely diminished

00:06:10.040 and the iranian regime has made no friends in the middle east by striking a range of u.s allies

00:06:16.360 president trump could declare meaningful victory right now and begin withdrawing forces maintaining his

00:06:22.120 pattern of limited and successful strikes with relatively low american casualties no military

00:06:28.440 action is without risks but trump has maintained the loyalty of a base skeptical of foreign intervention

00:06:34.280 by keeping those strikes brisk and effective unfortunately donald trump has stated that israel will

00:06:41.000 also have a say on when the war is concluded but that shouldn't be the case at all the united states is a

00:06:47.400 sovereign nation and the senior partner in a conflict that israel couldn't hope to execute

00:06:52.600 on its own the administration has already confirmed that the israeli decision to strike greatly impacted

00:06:59.560 the war plans of the united states and this is a mistake that should not be repeated prime minister

00:07:05.720 benjamin netanyahu has made it clear that a long-term regime change operation is the israeli goal and they

00:07:13.160 should secure that objective for themselves president trump has created a foreign policy defined by

00:07:19.960 brief and highly effective strikes in the interest of the american people he should stick with that

00:07:26.040 very successful america first strategy while the window of narrative victory is still open
