00:01:09.000 And not only that, AI is in fact generating significant jobs, according to The Economist.
00:01:14.000 On September 4th, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported the American economy added 162,000 jobs in August, far above expectations.
00:01:21.000 The unemployment rate is just 4.1% lower than in almost 90% of months over the past half century.
00:01:26.000 Young workers, often cast as AI's first victims, are holding up remarkably well.
00:01:30.000 The gap between unemployment among 20 to 24 year olds and the overall rate is close to a multi decade low.
00:01:36.000 The economist estimates that AI has so far created almost a million new jobs in the United States, which is well, well more than the 200,000 estimated layoffs attributed to AI since mid 2023.
00:01:49.000 It's also creating a new class of white collar jobs, which, again, this is how job markets work some people lose, more people gain.

00:02:10.000 And being good at things is not a bad thing, it's a good thing.

00:02:14.000 According to the Wall Street Journal, OpenAI is now saying that it has solved one of the most long lasting and complex problems in math.
00:02:25.000 The lab said on Tuesday this is the AI lab at OpenAI that they have now solved the so called Navier Stokes existence and smoothness problem, which is a fundamental question about how the rules that describe liquids and gases move.
00:02:41.000 So, for nearly a century, according to the Wall Street Journal, mathematicians have tried to determine whether smooth solutions to the equations describing three dimensional fluid motion always remain smooth or if they ever break down.
00:02:52.000 So, to put it less mathematically, on paper, can water blow up?
00:02:57.000 OpenAI says its model found a scenario in which an initially smooth fluid at rest can develop a singularity in a finite time.
00:03:04.000 They printed a 165 page proof.
00:03:07.000 The company says it took as many as 10,000 AI agents working together on the problem for about 88 hours and millions of dollars in computing resources.
00:03:15.000 So, again, AI is good at this sort of stuff.

00:03:19.000 Now, will there be downsides?
00:03:21.000 Sure, of course.
00:03:22.000 And we should be careful about those downsides.
00:03:24.000 So, for example, we are going to have to heavily keep an eye on how exactly we roll this into schools.
00:03:31.000 There's good data now that kids are using AI and it's making them dumber, which is not exactly a shock.
00:03:35.000 It turns out that when your kids get a calculator, they stop being able to do math in their head.
00:03:41.000 According to the Financial Times, school students' reading scores have plunged across the developed world.
00:03:45.000 As widespread access to AI and social media has harmed teenagers' ability to concentrate, according to a newly published international survey.
00:03:52.000 A graph showing changes in reading, math, and science scores between 2022 and 2025 in the OECD countries shows a pretty significant drop.
00:03:59.000 But again, that is about how you deal with new technology.
00:04:02.000 That is not an argument in favor of banning the new technology.
00:04:06.000 And not only that, again, things are going to become cheaper, things are going to become faster.

00:04:11.000 First, people are pretty good at talking themselves out of starting things.

00:05:46.000 And so if you can kind of lock that into place, that's if you're a company, you look for regulatory capture when you're at the top of the market.
00:05:52.000 In other tech news, Apple has unveiled a foldable iPhone Duo.
00:05:56.000 The price begins at a couple grand for 256 gigabytes of storage.
00:05:59.000 It's about $3,000 for the two terabyte storage option.
00:06:03.000 Again, the amounts of storage in these phones is astonishing.
00:06:05.000 It's really radically increased over time.

00:08:24.000 If you take a look at the polling data right now in the Texas Senate race, again, it is not great for Paxton right now.

00:08:35.000 There's the YouGov poll that came out a few days ago and had Tallarico up by five.
00:08:39.000 There's an Overton Insights poll that had them even.
00:08:43.000 Slingshot's Strategies poll that had Tallarico up by six.
00:08:46.000 Again, I think that the Tallarico is still unlikely to win that seat.
00:08:50.000 With that said, the fact it's even competitive at this point is just beyond me.
00:08:56.000 But it is amazing watching people who do not understand how AI hits folks trying to use AI to do things.

00:09:05.000 Again, the sort of revolution against AI is not likely to end well for the United States, especially because we live in a competitive world and our rivals in China are perfectly, perfectly happy to take advantage of our own willingness to destroy ourselves on the technological front.
