00:00:10.000 This is the Ben Shapiro Show.
00:00:10.000 I'm Ben Shapiro.
00:00:11.000 The Ben Shapiro Show is sponsored by ExpressVPN.

00:00:24.000 Speaking of which, when did we decide to stop upholding free speech as, you know, a basic right in this country?
00:00:29.000 What is playing out right now at big tech companies and social media sites sets a rather dangerous precedent as social media sites begin to crack down on your ability to speak freely, encouraged by the White House.
00:00:38.000 By the way, it doesn't matter what your politics are, who you voted for, the reality is you don't want big tech monitoring what you do.
00:00:44.000 This is why I use ExpressVPN.
00:00:46.000 If you've ever wondered how free-to-access tech giants make their money, the answer is they track your searches, video history, everything you click on.
00:00:51.000 By building a profile on you, and then they sell off your sensitive data, they can make their cash.
00:00:55.000 When you use the ExpressVPN app on your computer or phone, you anonymize much of your online presence by hiding your IP address.
00:01:01.000 That makes your activity more difficult to trace and sell to advertisers.
00:01:04.000 What's more, ExpressVPN encrypts 100% of your network data to protect you from eavesdroppers and cybercriminals.
00:01:10.000 What I like most is how easy it is to use.
00:01:12.000 It takes just one click to protect all of your devices.
00:01:14.000 That is why ExpressVPN is rated number one by Business Insider.
00:01:18.000 So, stop allowing big tech to revoke your right to free speech.
00:01:20.000 Why not revoke their right to your data instead?

00:01:36.000 Well, the situation in Ukraine continues to deteriorate.
00:01:39.000 According to the Wall Street Journal, Russian forces moved by air and land to attack Kiev on Friday, while the capital's defenders dug into positions along its forested edge and prepared to blow up the bridges.
00:01:49.000 At an airfield, Russian troops who had taken the facility following an airborne assault linked with Russian armored troops had poured in from Belarus, Ukrainian soldiers on the front line said.
00:01:58.000 With Ukrainian artillery and armor dispersed nearby, troops, including recently enrolled volunteers in civilian dress, raced for the Russian onslaught from the north and west after Kiev came under renewed bombardment earlier in the day and President Volodymyr Zelensky vowed not to surrender.
00:02:12.000 Defenders were gearing up for urban combat, gunfire erupted in several Kiev neighborhoods, and what Ukrainian officials said were clashes with Russian infiltrators.
00:02:19.000 Ukrainian artillery and tanks were moving through the city.
00:02:22.000 The Ukrainian Defense Ministry has been asking citizens of Ukraine to make Molotov cocktails on Twitter.
00:02:27.000 They've now been calling on Europeans with any military training to come and help them and pour into Ukraine in an attempt to repel the Russians.
00:02:34.000 Casualty figures were unclear.
00:02:35.000 Zelensky said on Friday that 137 people had already been killed.
00:02:39.000 Other officials put the toll in the hundreds as well.
00:02:41.000 Kiev was hit by a series of Russian airstrikes that shook the city center through the morning after Putin ordered an all-out assault on Ukraine aimed at toppling the government of Zelensky and ending Ukraine's alignment with the West altogether.
00:02:52.000 A residential high-rise went up in flames after being hit.
00:02:55.000 Russia has not gone in full-scale with troops at this point because they're attempting to establish air superiority before they allegedly attempt to bring in about 10,000 paratroopers.
00:03:03.000 Thousands of residents of Kiev spent the night in underground subway stations that had been converted into bomb shelters overnight.
00:03:09.000 Zelensky, wearing a military sweatshirt, said on Friday this morning, We are defending our country all alone.
00:03:14.000 The most powerful nations of the world are just watching from afar.
00:03:17.000 Only solidarity and decisiveness by Ukrainians will be able to preserve our freedom and our state.
00:03:21.000 He also added that he was Russia's principal target as Moscow seeks to bring down Ukraine's democratically elected government.
00:03:27.000 He said the enemy has marked me as enemy Number one, they want to destroy Ukraine politically by destroying the head of state.
00:03:32.000 And this, of course, aligns with a lot of what we're hearing from intelligence sources that say that the goal here is to decapitate the Zelensky administration and then put in place a Putin puppet regime in Ukraine, the same way that they have in places like Donetsk and Luhansk.
00:03:47.000 Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Friday Moscow recognizes Zelensky as Ukraine's president, but was yet to assess a suggestion from Kiev it might be willing to begin talks with Russia over Ukraine adopting neutral status as a country.
00:03:57.000 So that is one of the offers that Zelensky is now putting on the table.
00:04:02.000 He suggested that he would declare Ukraine to be non-aligned, saying, we will formally never attempt to join NATO, which is what Putin had originally said he wanted.
00:04:11.000 But now that the troops are on the ground, I think it's highly unlikely that Putin acquiesces to any of these calls for negotiation.
00:04:18.000 Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov accused Zelensky of lying and said the Ukrainian president had missed his opportunity when Putin previously suggested a non-aligned status.
00:04:26.000 Lavrov is no longer interested in anything short of Zelensky's head on a platter, or at least seeing him locked up in a Moscow labor camp, according to Jazz Shaw, writing for Hot Air.
00:04:35.000 Putin has gone in too far at this point to simply pull out without any sort of change in the top level of the administration in Ukraine.
00:04:45.000 Zelensky said they wanted to destroy Ukraine politically by destroying the head of state.
00:04:48.000 He said his family was the number two target.
00:04:50.000 He said, my family is not traitors, but citizens of Ukraine.
00:04:52.000 I have no right to say where they are now.
00:04:54.000 He said that enemy sabotage groups had infiltrated the city, according to the Washington Post, and that NATO and Europe had left Ukraine alone to defend itself against the Russian onslaught.
00:05:03.000 The most dramatic footage of the day came from a place called Snake Island, which is just off the coast of Ukraine, of course.
00:05:11.000 And apparently, there was an audio exchange as Russian warships approached Snake Island, also known as Zmini Island.
00:05:18.000 A Russian officer says, this is a military warship.
00:05:20.000 This is a Russian military warship.
00:05:22.000 I suggest you lay down your weapons and surrender to avoid bloodshed and needless casualties.
00:05:25.000 Otherwise, you will be bombed.
00:05:27.000 And then a Ukrainian soldier comes on the air and says, Russian warship, go F yourself.
00:05:33.000 Apparently all of the soldiers, all the Ukrainian soldiers, were then summarily killed by the Russian forces that are invading.
00:05:40.000 Zelensky said, we will give weapons to anyone who wants to defend the country, be ready to support Ukraine in the squares of our city.
00:05:45.000 We will lift sanctions on all citizens of Ukraine who are ready to defend our country as part of territorial defense with weapons in hand.
00:05:51.000 Kiev, of course, has been hit over and over at this point.
00:05:54.000 Multiple explosions were heard earlier in the day, according to the Washington Post.
00:05:57.000 Sirens were heard in Lviv as well.
00:05:58.000 That's Ukraine's far west and near NATO's eastern flank.
00:06:01.000 A senior Ukrainian defense official said Russian forces were near the town of Borzal, some 20 miles to Kiev's northwest.
00:06:07.000 Biden administration officials told lawmakers late Thursday they feared the capital would soon fall with Russian mechanized forces that had crossed over from Belarus on its outskirts.
00:06:15.000 Ukrainian President Zelensky said Thursday he remained in Kiev, though enemy sabotage groups were already in the capital.
00:06:21.000 So, things are extraordinarily grim in Ukraine.
00:06:25.000 It looks as though Russia is just days, if not hours, from taking Kiev outright and then presumably killing all of its opponents or sending them to labor camps and putting in place a regime more friendly to its own ambitions.
00:06:38.000 One of the things that has happened here?
00:06:40.000 is that Vladimir Putin has shattered a couple of generations worth of really, really bad foreign policy thing.
00:06:45.000 It turns out that some of the dumbest people on earth are the people who make foreign policy for the State Department.
00:06:49.000 I'm talking in bipartisan fashion.
00:06:51.000 And this has been true for quite a while.
00:06:52.000 The State Department is filled with quizzling idiots.
00:06:54.000 And it's always been filled with quizzling idiots.
00:06:56.000 And it's not a shock to learn that the State Department really doesn't know what it's doing very often.
00:07:01.000 Remember that during the Trump administration in the Middle East, the State Department kept suggesting that if, for example, the U.S.
00:07:06.000 Embassy in Israel was moved to Jerusalem, that would spark all-out war in the Middle East and that peace could never be achieved.
00:07:11.000 John Kerry, former Secretary of State, said that peace could never be achieved with Arab nations without some sort of concessions to the Palestinians.
00:07:17.000 Of course, that was the groupthink at the State Department talking, and it was completely wrong.
00:07:21.000 And there are a number of premises that have been held by idiots at the State Department, or elites at the State Department, that are just incredibly wrong, and Putin proved a bunch of them wrong over the course of the last week.
00:07:31.000 Number one, the idea that economic sanctions deter major military powers from doing anything is wrong, and it has been wrong for a very, very long time.
00:07:39.000 In fact, there's a good new book out titled The Economic Weapon by a professor at Yale University, Nicholas Mulder.
00:07:47.000 And that book is about a history of economic warfare and the use of economic sanctions to try and deter major forces from engaging in warfare.
00:07:57.000 And of course, it has never worked.
00:07:59.000 We've tried economic sanctions against Japan.
00:08:00.000 It didn't work.
00:08:01.000 We tried economic sanctions against Italy when they invaded Ethiopia.
00:08:03.000 It didn't work.
00:08:04.000 We tried economic sanctions against Hitler.
00:08:06.000 It did not work.
00:08:08.000 Over and over again, we have tried economic sanctions on major powers.
00:08:11.000 And the real fact of the matter is that economic sanctions on major powers are ineffective.
00:08:16.000 Because those major powers usually are able to avoid those economic sanctions by finding other people to ally with them or align with them.
00:08:25.000 If there are big financial or commercial loopholes, then it makes it nearly impossible for sanctions to have any long-term impact.
00:08:32.000 And again, alliances allow you to skirt all of that, which is exactly what Russia has known.
00:08:38.000 So economic sanctions were bound to be a failure here, particularly the sort of economic sanctions that we were laying for Russia, as we'll talk about in just one moment.
00:08:45.000 But that's not the only idiotic foreign policy idea that was shattered by Vladimir Putin's aggression.
00:08:50.000 Another idiotic foreign policy idea is that just because you're a second-rate economic power, that means that you are not going to be aggressive.
00:08:57.000 That's always been foolish.
00:08:59.000 In fact, it turns out that countries that are second-rate economic powers have routinely been extraordinarily aggressive on their borders.
00:09:04.000 The reason being, when you are weak internally, this means that you tend to be more aggressive externally in order to lock down your own population and give them some sort of common purpose.
00:09:14.000 So everyone was suggesting that because Russia has a very weak economy, again, Russia's total national GDP is approximately the size of the GDP of the state of Florida.
00:09:24.000 Just because of that, the idea was, well, Russia presumably would stop being quite as aggressive.
00:09:28.000 Why?
00:09:30.000 Why would we think that?
00:09:31.000 And yet that was the going wisdom in a lot of foreign policy circles.
00:09:35.000 Other going wisdom in foreign policy circles, promoted by the likes of always-wrong Thomas Friedman of the New York Times, is that if countries had McDonald's, they wouldn't fight each other.
00:09:43.000 That trade ties would somehow, this is the converse of the economic sanctions argument, that trade ties would somehow prevent war from breaking out.
00:09:50.000 That wasn't even true with World War I. The late 19th century, early 20th century was considered a period, a high watermark of global economic integration.
00:09:59.000 And it ended in disaster with World War I.
00:10:02.000 So it's always foolish the notion that if you have countries that have allowed some semblance of capitalism to invade, that this would somehow bring countries closer together.
00:10:11.000 Not necessarily.
00:10:14.000 That the UN is a useful institution.
00:10:14.000 Other myths.
00:10:16.000 Now, everybody has known for decades that the UN is a completely useless institution.
00:10:21.000 It was formed in the aftermath of World War II.
00:10:22.000 There are countries that are on the Security Council that just should not be on the Security Council.
00:10:27.000 The fact that the United States and the USSR were both on the Security Council immediately meant that the UN was going to be a useless and feckless organization.
00:10:34.000 Today, you have Russia and China sitting on the Security Council.
00:10:37.000 That means nothing is ever going to get done there.
00:10:40.000 The idea of having a league of nations with nations that despise you and want to destroy you is completely stupid.
00:10:45.000 The UN is not just stupid, it is counterproductive.
00:10:48.000 It has been corrupt and venal, and the General Assembly has been largely evil for nearly all of its entire existence.
00:10:55.000 So when you see our politicians jet-setting over to the UN in order to inform the nations of the world in highfalutin, high-blown speech that history will rebuke people like Vladimir Putin, yeah, the UN is a useless organization, we should level the building and salt the ground.
00:11:15.000 Other ideas on foreign policy that have been proved wrong by Vladimir Putin here.
00:11:19.000 And again, this doesn't mean that Vladimir Putin is right or good.
00:11:22.000 Vladimir Putin is a thug dictator.
00:11:24.000 He's been a thug dictator for a very, very long time.
00:11:26.000 He is right now, I believe, the longest-serving world leader on planet Earth.
00:11:31.000 But other ideas that he has shattered here, because it turns out that a hard-headed, brute military force shatters a lot of illusions, are that non-treaty promises by major nations are useful and trustworthy.
00:11:41.000 They are not.
00:11:42.000 Ukraine was promised security by the West.
00:11:44.000 Nope.
00:11:45.000 Hong Kong was promised security by the West.
00:11:47.000 Nope.
00:11:48.000 So if you're Taiwan, why would you believe any non-treaty promises by the West?
00:11:53.000 Wouldn't you immediately be seeking to proliferate nuclear weapons?
00:11:56.000 If you are a non-aligned country, or if you're a country that just does not have formal treaty obligations from the West, why would you not seek your own nuclear deterrent right now and build up your military right now?
00:12:05.000 We're about to watch a nuclear arms race like we frankly have not seen in world history.
00:12:11.000 Because if you are a nation that is threatened by China or threatened by Russia, are you going to trust that the same West that turned over Hong Kong to the Chinese and turned over Afghanistan to the Taliban and turned over Ukraine to the Russians and watches as they fight alone, are you going to trust them?
00:12:25.000 Again, that's not an argument for us intervening to put troops in Ukraine.
00:12:27.000 It's an argument for why Ukraine never should have given up its nuclear weapons and why if the West truly wanted to integrate Ukraine, it should have actually made treaty obligations to Ukraine because that would have prevented Vladimir Putin from coming face to face with Kiev.
00:12:41.000 Finally, the notion that international law exists at all has been disproved by Vladimir Putin, who has proved once again that international law, in the words of novelist Leon Uris, international law is something invoked by the evil to the detriment of the good.
00:12:57.000 It's generally used by people who are bad in order to stop good people from fighting back.
00:13:01.000 When good people invoke international law, the bad people don't give any craps at all.
00:13:05.000 And that is the story of Vladimir Putin.
00:13:08.000 So all of those ideas have now been shattered.
00:13:10.000 And yet we live in a world of illusion.
00:13:13.000 And that world of illusion, pretty words, Spoken badly by the President of the United States, make all of this go away.
00:13:19.000 If we just say pretty things, if we Barack Obama this thing, then maybe the world will become a better place.
00:13:25.000 And the hard power that Russia is now using to great effect in Ukraine, to shell-shock all of the NATO nations on its borders, and to take over a fully-fledged democracy in Ukraine that is basically on the border being a first world country.
00:13:40.000 The takeover of Ukraine, which is a war at the heart of Eastern Europe, That should have disillusioned a lot of these people, but it's not going to.
00:13:47.000 It's not going to.
00:13:48.000 Because again, the experts remain the experts.
00:13:50.000 As we've learned over the last couple of years, being wrong doesn't make you not an expert.
00:13:53.000 It means that the public just doesn't understand you properly.
00:13:56.000 In a second, we'll get to Joe Biden's pathetic speech yesterday, and it really was pathetic.

00:15:06.000 So we had the spectacle of Joe Biden wandering out or being directed out toward a podium yesterday.
00:15:11.000 Again, late to his own press conference because this is what he does.
00:15:14.000 And he wandered out late to the podium where he proceeded to explain that history would be the final rebuke for Vladimir Putin.
00:15:21.000 So while he's talking about how history would be the final rebuke for Vladimir Putin, Vladimir Putin is like, yeah, I'm over here taking Kiev.
00:15:28.000 So you talk all you want about history.
00:15:31.000 Meanwhile, you know, I'm I'm just going to go do what I what I please.
00:15:35.000 It turns out that history is not an actual force in the world.
00:15:37.000 History is just you writing stuff about stuff that happened in the past.
00:15:42.000 It is fairly incredible.
00:15:44.000 I will say the substitution of the word history for God in this formulation has significantly less impact.
00:15:50.000 Here is Joe Biden citing how history is going to view Vladimir Putin.
00:15:55.000 Putin's choice to make a totally unjustifiable war on Ukraine will have left Russia weaker and the rest of the world stronger.
00:16:05.000 Liberty, democracy, human dignity, these are the forces far more powerful than fear and oppression.
00:16:13.000 They cannot be extinguished by tyrants like Putin and his armies.
00:16:18.000 They cannot be erased from people's hearts and hopes by any amount of violence and intimidation.
00:16:25.000 They endure.
00:16:28.000 Okay, that is a load of bloviating bull crap right there.
00:16:31.000 That is a load of bloviating bull crap.
00:16:32.000 So his argument is that Russia will be weaker and the rest of the world stronger after Vladimir Putin takes Ukraine with no serious Western response.
00:16:40.000 He's gonna have to explain the math on that one.
00:16:42.000 Also, when he says things like liberty cannot be extinguished, yeah, it absolutely can.
00:16:47.000 There might be the liberty beating in the breast of every human heart, the desire for it, but those require institutions.
00:16:54.000 Those require governments that actually guarantee liberty.
00:16:57.000 It turns out that the vast majority of human history, liberty has not been the way that people live, particularly in this area of the world.
00:17:05.000 I mean, we just got done with a 20th century where nearly the entirety of Eastern Europe was dominated by a fascist communist force.
00:17:14.000 And we are supposed to believe that liberty is inevitably, well, not for these people, it's not.
00:17:20.000 These people are now subjected to absolute tyranny.
00:17:22.000 Did the liberty beating in the heart of Afghan citizens save them from the predations of the Taliban?
00:17:27.000 Did the liberty beating in the heart of people living in Hong Kong save them from the predations of the Chinese?
00:17:31.000 What the hell is he talking about?
00:17:32.000 Pretty words are no substitute for actual real politique.
00:17:36.000 Pretty words are not a substitute for an effective approach to a dictator with aggressive intent and a real willingness to take risks on behalf of reestablishment of a Peter the Great Russian Empire.
00:17:52.000 It's absurd to watch this old man doddering around talking about how liberty is inevitably going to win.
00:17:57.000 Really, is it inevitably going to win?
00:17:59.000 Because I've noticed that there's nothing inevitable about history.
00:18:01.000 That's one of the things that I've noticed.
00:18:05.000 A lot of people die on the way to liberty, as it turns out.
00:18:09.000 And a lot of people who are living in liberty end up back in tyranny.
00:18:12.000 If people do nothing.
00:18:13.000 And if you make stupid plans.
00:18:15.000 And if you disarm nations in the face of Russian aggression with the promise that sometime in the future you might help them out.
00:18:21.000 Those sort of empty words, not only do they mean nothing, they are insulting.
00:18:25.000 They're insulting in the face of what people in Ukraine are currently experiencing.
00:18:29.000 If you're living in Ukraine, again, an incipient democracy, and you're living in relative levels of freedom, and here come the Russian troops down the street, and you hear the President of the United States, who, as we will discuss, is about to posit a series of feckless actions that will accomplish virtually nothing, saying, don't worry, liberty is going to win.
00:18:47.000 All that does is make a mockery of liberty.
00:18:50.000 The reality throughout human history is that if you are going to have liberty prevail, that requires actual hard-headed decision-making in pursuit of that liberty.
00:19:00.000 Not a bunch of gussied-up words written by a bad two-years-out-of-law-school speechwriter from Wellesley.
00:19:07.000 It's ridiculous.
00:19:10.000 The president makes a mockery of his own office when he does this sort of stuff.
00:19:13.000 And this has been true, by the way, pretty much forever.
00:19:15.000 Whenever a president goes out there and he launches this kind of rhetoric, history will judge.
00:19:20.000 If you want to do this in a religious sense, God will judge.
00:19:23.000 Yeah, after death, God may judge.
00:19:26.000 But if you are going to suggest that history will judge, history is not a disembodied thing.
00:19:31.000 Right now, Vladimir Putin has written the history of Russia.
00:19:34.000 Joe Biden isn't writing the history of Russia.
00:19:37.000 And so all of this would be less grating if Joe Biden actually had any sort of wherewithal to put together a plan.
00:19:44.000 But he has no plan.
00:19:45.000 His plan is to call on Americans to make sacrifices that he openly admits will not achieve their intended effect.
00:19:50.000 That's the part of this that's amazing.
00:19:52.000 I'm perfectly willing to go along with Joe Biden if Joe Biden says, listen, here's the deal.
00:19:58.000 We're going to go after the natural gas and oil sectors of the Russian economy.
00:20:02.000 We're going to relieve all of the regulations on the American oil-producing part of the economy.
00:20:08.000 We're going to go back to opening up federal lands.
00:20:10.000 We're going to reopen Keystone XL because this is war.
00:20:13.000 And we are going to have to tell the Greens that they need to take a backseat for the moment while we deal with Russia.
00:20:19.000 And you might have to pay a temporarily higher price at the pump in order for us to do that.
00:20:24.000 That is a case worth making.
00:20:25.000 He's not making that case.
00:20:27.000 He is saying that you should pay a higher price at the pump today so that he can pursue a bunch of actions that he himself openly admits will accomplish nothing like what he says he wants to accomplish.
00:20:38.000 That's unthinkably bad politics.
00:20:41.000 It's stupid on behalf of American citizens and it's stupid internationally as well.
00:20:45.000 All righty, coming up, Joe Biden says things are unfolding in Ukraine just the way we predicted.
00:20:49.000 Well, if that's true, then why are you bad at this?
00:20:51.000 So here's the thing.
00:20:52.000 If you predict a bad thing is going to happen and then you don't prep for that bad thing to happen and then the bad thing happens and you didn't prep for it, this makes you an idiot.
00:20:59.000 We'll get to that in just one second.
00:21:00.000 First.
00:21:01.000 You know, I lead a busy life.
00:21:02.000 I get up early in the morning, gotta read the news, gotta stand on top of all this stuff.
00:21:06.000 This means that if I am perusing my phone late at night, I want to be able to fall asleep really quickly.
00:21:11.000 But blue light tends to keep you awake if you use it right before bed.
00:21:14.000 This is where my blue blocks come in.
00:21:17.000 When I discovered blue blocks and their sleep products, my sleep was completely transformed for the better.
00:21:20.000 Blue Blocks is an optimized health, sleep, and recovery company with evidence-backed products that have been tested under Australian lab conditions and backed by peer-reviewed studies.
00:21:28.000 I have the Blue Blocks Sleep Plus glasses and the Remedy Sleep Mask, which is really big.
00:21:32.000 The sleep mask is really useful to me because sometimes my wife is reading and she doesn't want to Go to bed right away.
00:21:37.000 Well, I can tell you that Remedy Sleep Mask is super helpful.
00:21:39.000 It's the best sleep mask I have tried.
00:21:40.000 It's the only mask that blocks 100% of light.
00:21:43.000 There's no eye pressure, so I can open my eyes while wearing the mask.
00:21:45.000 It has a fully adjustable strap for the perfect fit.
00:21:48.000 If you've ever wear some of these other masks, they actually kind of mess with the shape of your eye, and you open your eyes, it's all blurry and weird.
00:21:54.000 You don't get that with the Remedy Sleep Mask.
00:21:56.000 You can also check out the many other great products BlueBlox offers for red light therapy and EMF shielding.
00:22:01.000 Looking forward to trying all of that soon.
00:22:03.000 To get the Remedy Sleep Mask and Sleep Plus glasses for yourself, head on over to blueblocks.com slash Ben.

00:22:20.000 Okay, so Joe Biden in this press conference yesterday, he says, you know, things are unfolding as we predicted.
00:22:26.000 But the question is, if they're unfolding as you predicted, why didn't you do anything?
00:22:26.000 He's right.
00:22:31.000 Why didn't you do anything?
00:22:32.000 See, this is the difference between Afghanistan and Ukraine.
00:22:34.000 So in Afghanistan, they did not unfold as Joe Biden predicted.
00:22:38.000 Joe Biden thought that the Afghan regime was going to hold in the face of the Taliban, at least temporarily, to give him time enough to get out of Afghanistan, saving face.
00:22:45.000 That's what he thought.
00:22:46.000 And he was completely wrong because, once again, he is eight years old.
00:22:49.000 And he's been wrong on everything.
00:22:50.000 As Barack Obama suggested, don't underestimate Joe's ability to F things up.
00:22:55.000 So he was just wrong on Afghanistan.
00:22:56.000 Then he went out there and he kept lying that things were going just as they suggested.
00:23:00.000 As American service people were being bombed to smithereens, and as we were droning innocent Afghan families on our way out and handing the place over to the Taliban, as 9 million people are on the brink of starvation.
00:23:08.000 All of that was according to plan, according to Joe Biden.
00:23:11.000 But it wasn't.
00:23:12.000 He was lying there.
00:23:12.000 But here's the thing.
00:23:14.000 We've known since November, and they've been spilling since November, that this is exactly what Putin was going to do.
00:23:18.000 And he still did not have a plan.
00:23:20.000 That's the amazing thing here.
00:23:21.000 He still had no plan.
00:23:23.000 If I tell you I know that there's going to be a hurricane three days from now, but I don't do anything to prepare for the hurricane.
00:23:30.000 And then the hurricane comes and blows the roof off the house.
00:23:32.000 And I didn't bother buying insurance.
00:23:34.000 I didn't bother moving my family.
00:23:35.000 People get hurt.
00:23:36.000 That means I'm a moron.
00:23:38.000 And that's what Joe Biden is.
00:23:39.000 So here is Joe Biden announcing that things are unfolding as he predicted.
00:23:42.000 The Russian military has begun a brutal assault on the people of Ukraine without provocation, without justification, without necessity.
00:23:53.000 This is a premeditated attack.
00:23:56.000 Vladimir Putin has been planning this for months, as we've been saying all along.
00:24:00.000 He rejected every good faith effort the United States and our allies and partners made to address our mutual security concerns through dialogue to avoid needless conflict and avert human suffering.
00:24:13.000 For weeks, for weeks, we have been warning that this would happen.
00:24:18.000 And now, it's unfolding largely as we predicted.
00:24:24.000 Okay, so yeah, you predicted it, and then you didn't do anything.
00:24:28.000 You didn't do anything.
00:24:29.000 You were asked six weeks ago about sanctioning Nord Stream 2, and you turned it down.
00:24:33.000 It was filibustered in the Senate.
00:24:36.000 The Senate Republicans were ready to get rid of Nord Stream 2 before this happened, as a preemptive measure, saying to the Russians, if you do this, it's going to get even worse than this.
00:24:45.000 And not just that, if you wish to have Nord Stream 2 back, just don't go in, and then we'll talk about reinstating Nord Stream 2.
00:24:50.000 And Joe Biden's like, nope, we're not going to do that.
00:24:51.000 So there were no preparations made.
00:24:54.000 So now Joe Biden says he's going to send 7,000 troops to Europe.
00:24:57.000 All right, fine.
00:24:59.000 He's not sending them into Ukraine.
00:25:00.000 He's just sending them into the border nations around Russia.
00:25:03.000 We already have a lot of troops in that particular area.
00:25:06.000 It seems rather unnecessary to add more troops to those areas except to, I suppose, placate some of the NATO nations who now, correctly, are suspecting the fecklessness of the West that has guaranteed its security.
00:25:16.000 Here's Joe Biden announcing the troop movements.
00:25:18.000 Today, within hours of Russia's unleashing its assault, NATO came together and authorized and activated an activation of response plans.
00:25:28.000 This will enable NATO's high readiness forces to deploy and when and where they're needed to protect our NATO allies on the eastern boundaries of Europe.
00:25:39.000 And now I'm authorizing additional U.S.
00:25:41.000 force capabilities to deploy to Germany as part of NATO's response, including some of the U.S.-based forces that the Department of Defense placed on standby weeks ago.
00:25:54.000 Okay, fine.
00:25:55.000 Good.
00:25:55.000 I mean, sure.
00:25:56.000 Is that going to help Ukraine in any way?
00:25:58.000 Of course not.
00:25:58.000 So Biden says, if we don't stop Putin now, he will be emboldened.
00:26:01.000 Oh, you think?
00:26:02.000 Oh, really?
00:26:03.000 Oh, isn't that fascinating?
00:26:04.000 If you don't stop Putin now, he will be emboldened.
00:26:06.000 Maybe you should have thought of that when you were mocking Mitt Romney for calling Russia a geopolitical threat in 2012.
00:26:10.000 Maybe you should have thought of that when Barack Obama was pledging flexibility to Dmitry Medvedev.
00:26:14.000 Maybe you should have thought of that when, you know, under your vice presidency, Vladimir Putin invaded Crimea and just took it over.
00:26:22.000 And then, fomented insurrection in Donetsk and Luhansk, and created breakaway quote-unquote republics over there.
00:26:29.000 Maybe you should have thought of that then.
00:26:30.000 Maybe you should have thought of that when you were handing control of Syria over to the Russians.
00:26:33.000 Maybe you should have thought of that when you were hanging out as Vice President and helping Russia to broker a deal with the Iran mullah, mullocracy.
00:26:40.000 Maybe you should have thought of all those things.
00:26:42.000 Or maybe it's a little late now to dissuade Russia from invading Ukraine because they've already done it, you dolt.
00:26:49.000 Here we go.
00:26:51.000 How concerned are you that Putin wants to go beyond Ukraine into other countries and the U.S.
00:26:55.000 will have to get involved if he moves into NATO countries?
00:26:58.000 Well, if he did move into NATO countries, he will be involved.
00:27:01.000 We will be involved.
00:27:02.000 The only thing that I'm convinced of is if we don't stop now, he'll be emboldened.
00:27:07.000 If we don't move against him now with these significant sanctions, he will be emboldened.
00:27:14.000 OK, so he's saying now.
00:27:15.000 So here's here's where we get to the brass tacks of it.
00:27:18.000 So he says we have to move on these sanctions because otherwise he will be emboldened and he will do more.
00:27:23.000 But here's the problem.
00:27:24.000 Joe Biden doesn't even believe that.
00:27:25.000 He doesn't believe that the sanctions are going to stop any of this.
00:27:29.000 He doesn't believe any of that.
00:27:31.000 So he says that the sanctions will impair Russia's ability to compete.
00:27:35.000 He starts talking up these new sanctions.
00:27:37.000 Now, let's be clear what these sanctions are not, as we'll get to.
00:27:40.000 They're not on natural oil and gas.
00:27:42.000 They're not on any of that stuff, which is most of Russia's economy.
00:27:47.000 They're not on SWIFT.
00:27:48.000 SWIFT is the International Banking System.
00:27:50.000 There are mechanisms by which the international community can cut Russia off from the banking system.
00:27:53.000 They're not doing any of that.
00:27:55.000 And he's not even asking China to actually help isolate Russia.
00:27:59.000 But the sanctions are going to be wildly effective.
00:28:01.000 So here is Joe Biden saying that sanctions are going to impair Russia's ability to compete, which is weird because Russia doesn't have any ability to compete.
00:28:08.000 I love this sort of misapprehension that if you tell the Russians they're going to be slightly poorer than they already are, that this is going to magically make things better.
00:28:16.000 In what world?
00:28:17.000 Impair Russia's ability to compete.
00:28:18.000 It's a backwater.
00:28:19.000 It's an economic backwater.
00:28:20.000 The hell is he talking about?
00:28:23.000 I just spoke with the G7 leaders this morning, and we're in full and total agreement.
00:28:29.000 We will limit Russia's ability to do business in dollars, euros, pounds, and yen to be part of a global economy.
00:28:37.000 We'll limit their ability to do that.
00:28:40.000 We're going to stunt the ability to finance and grow the Russian military.
00:28:45.000 We're going to impose major, and we're going to impair their ability to compete in high-tech 21st century economy.
00:28:58.000 What was, I have a question, was Russia competitive in that area?
00:29:01.000 Without the sanctions, is Russia really very competitive in that high-tech 21st century economy?
00:29:06.000 Was that a thing that was happening?
00:29:07.000 This great global superpower?
00:29:09.000 With, again, a GDP about the size of Florida?
00:29:11.000 What was that?
00:29:12.000 OK, so he says that we are going to levy these sanctions and it's going to be they're going to be brutal.
00:29:16.000 We're going to we're going to impede their ability to actually do things.
00:29:21.000 OK, but then he's asked some pretty specific questions about what exactly these sanctions are.
00:29:26.000 He's asked, for example, did you call up China and ask them to help you isolate Russia?
00:29:30.000 Because that seems like that would be a necessity, as I mentioned earlier, when it comes to economic sanctions.
00:29:33.000 One of the ways that you avoid economic sanctions is by having a partner in crime.
00:29:37.000 If Russia can just go to China and China can still trade with the world, then Russia is OK.
00:29:42.000 So Joe Biden has asked a pretty simple question.
00:29:44.000 Have you talked with China about isolating Russia and will they help you do it?
00:29:47.000 And here's Joe Biden's answer.
00:29:49.000 And are you are you if I could follow up, sir, are you urging China to help isolate Russia?
00:29:54.000 Are you urging China to help isolate Russia?
00:29:58.000 I'm not prepared to comment on that at the moment.
00:30:02.000 That's insane.
00:30:03.000 He's not asking China to help isolate Russia.
00:30:05.000 He's not asking.
00:30:06.000 Now, here's the reality.
00:30:06.000 He did ask and he was rebuffed, which means he knew this was going to fail from the start, according to the New York Times today.
00:30:12.000 Over three months, senior Biden administration officials held half a dozen urgent meetings with top Chinese officials in which the Americans presented intelligence showing Russian troop buildup around Ukraine and beseeched the Chinese to tell Russia not to invade.
00:30:24.000 Each time, the Chinese officials, including the foreign minister and the ambassador, rebuffed the Americans, saying they did not think an invasion was in the works.
00:30:31.000 After one diplomatic exchange in December, U.S.
00:30:33.000 officials got intelligence showing that Beijing had shared that information directly with Moscow, telling the Russians that the United States was trying to sow discord and that China would not try to impede Russian plans and actions, the officials said.
00:30:45.000 The previously unreported talks between American and Chinese officials show how the Biden administration tried to use intelligence findings and diplomacy to persuade a superpower it views as a growing adversary to stop the invasion of Ukraine.
00:30:56.000 And how that nation, led by President Xi Jinping, persistently sided with Russia, even as the evidence of Moscow's plans for a military offensive grew over the winter.
00:31:06.000 The Chinese embassy did not return a request for comment.
00:31:09.000 So in other words, he did ask and he got rebuffed, which means the sanctions are likely not going to work.
00:31:16.000 And he knows that.
00:31:17.000 But he went forward with all of this anyway, with no plan.
00:31:21.000 He's a genius.
00:31:22.000 What can you say?
00:31:23.000 He is great at this.
00:31:25.000 Biden then continued.
00:31:26.000 He said, you know, we're not even going to cut them off of SWIFT.
00:31:28.000 That's it.
00:31:29.000 So here's the things we're not going to do.
00:31:30.000 We're not going to try to get China.
00:31:32.000 We're not going to cudgel China into line here.
00:31:35.000 But right now, by the way, it is important to mention that the DOJ just killed a Trump-era program to ferret out Chinese spying in the United States and prosecute people who are working with the Chinese government on behalf of the Chinese government.
00:31:48.000 The DOJ just killed it because they said it was racist.
00:31:51.000 Not kidding.
00:31:51.000 That's a real thing that is happening in the middle of this.
00:31:54.000 And then Joe Biden was asked about cutting them off from SWIFT.
00:31:58.000 He's like, no, we're not going to do that either.
00:32:01.000 Mr. President, you didn't mention SWIFT in your sanctions that you announced.
00:32:05.000 Is there a reason why the U.S.
00:32:08.000 isn't doing that?
00:32:09.000 Is there a disagreement among allies regarding SWIFT and whether Russia should be allowed to be a part of it?
00:32:16.000 The sanctions that we've proposed on all their banks have an equal consequence, maybe more consequence, than SWIFT, number one.
00:32:23.000 Number two, it is always an option, but right now that's not the position that the rest of Europe wishes to take.
00:32:32.000 Okay, so we are told by the Democrats and by the media that Joe Biden has united Europe like never before, united NATO like never before.
00:32:38.000 Let me mention some of the other carve-outs that are happening.
00:32:40.000 So first of all, they're not cutting Russia off of SWIFT, which would actually be a major move.
00:32:44.000 They're not doing that.
00:32:45.000 Also, Italy has a carve-out from the sanctions so they can ship, I'm not kidding you, luxury goods from the EU to Russia because they need the oligarchs buying Gucci loafers still.
00:32:57.000 Very important.
00:32:58.000 Meanwhile, Belgium apparently got a carve-out so they can continue selling diamonds in Europe.
00:33:03.000 These people are taking this very, very seriously.
00:33:05.000 Very seriously, indeed.
00:33:06.000 Okay, so, after all of this, by the way, Joe Biden was asked about the sanctions preventing things from happening.
00:33:14.000 And he openly said, no one expected the sanctions to stop anything from happening.
00:33:18.000 Now, that's a lie.
00:33:20.000 That is an absolute, overt lie.
00:33:22.000 Here is Joe Biden lying to you.
00:33:25.000 No one expected the sanctions to prevent anything from happening.
00:33:31.000 It's going to take time.
00:33:33.000 And we have to show resolve so he knows what's coming.
00:33:36.000 And so the people of Russia know what he's brought on them.
00:33:39.000 That's what this is all about.
00:33:41.000 This is going to take time.
00:33:42.000 It's not going to occur.
00:33:43.000 He's going to say, oh, my God, these sanctions are coming.
00:33:46.000 I'm going to stand down.
00:33:47.000 He's going to test the resolve of the West to see if we stay together.
00:33:50.000 And we will.
00:33:52.000 We will.
00:33:52.000 And it will impose significant costs on him.
00:33:56.000 So you said the sanctions were not meant to be a deterrent.
00:33:58.000 I have a clip from your vice president, sir, from five days ago saying that the sanctions are meant to deter Vladimir Putin.
00:34:06.000 The administration has continually said that retaining those sanctions holds on to some leverage.
00:34:12.000 But if you believe Putin has made up his mind, what leverage do you really have?
00:34:16.000 Why not put those sanctions in place now?
00:34:19.000 The purpose of the sanctions has always been and continues to be deterrence.
00:34:24.000 But let's also recognize the unique nature of the sanctions that we have outlined.
00:34:31.000 They're magical sanctions.
00:34:33.000 They're going to deter.
00:34:33.000 But now Biden says they're not going to deter.
00:34:36.000 And then he's asked Joe Biden, so are these ones going to work?
00:34:39.000 He said the other ones don't work.
00:34:41.000 You shouldn't expect them to work.
00:34:42.000 Are the new ones going to work?
00:34:43.000 Here's Joe Biden saying, well, you know, maybe we'll find out after, you know, like a month.
00:34:49.000 The sanctions we've imposed exceed SWIFT.
00:34:52.000 The sanctions we imposed exceed anything that's ever been done.
00:34:56.000 The sanctions we imposed have generated two-thirds of the world joining us.
00:35:00.000 They are profound sanctions.
00:35:02.000 Let's have a conversation in another month or so to see if they're working.
00:35:08.000 Another month or so?
00:35:09.000 Ukraine is not going to exist in another week or so.
00:35:12.000 Maximum another month or so.
00:35:15.000 So you should experience pain at the pump.
00:35:18.000 You should follow Joe Biden to the gates of hell for measures that he knows will do nothing.
00:35:25.000 And that he's not even seeking.
00:35:27.000 He's not even seeking to bar Russia from SWIFT.
00:35:29.000 He's not trying to have Russia thrown out of the UN.
00:35:32.000 He's not trying to cut off all diplomatic ties with Russia.
00:35:34.000 He's not doing any of the stuff that you would actually do if you wanted to use non-lethal measures of preventing Russia from going further in Ukraine.
00:35:43.000 He's not talking about even shipping more deadly weaponry into Ukraine right now.
00:35:46.000 What is he doing?
00:35:47.000 The answer is he's posturing.
00:35:49.000 The answer is he is posturing and everyone knows that he is posturing.
00:35:52.000 By the way, the biggest giveaway that he is posturing is the fact that, again, Russia provides one third of the EU's natural gas.
00:35:59.000 And that is the one area of the economy that Russia is going to escape sanction on.
00:36:04.000 You know, like the biggest sector of their economy.
00:36:06.000 That's like saying that you're going to sanction the United States.
00:36:09.000 You're just going to avoid sanctioning anything that is done with U.S.
00:36:12.000 dollars.
00:36:14.000 So those are sanctions that don't mean anything.
00:36:17.000 Sanctions.
00:36:18.000 Alrighty, coming up, even the media can't shield Joe Biden from his own incompetence.

00:39:21.000 Speaking of which, as we see the conflict unfolding between Russia and Ukraine, it's very clear dictators are not to be trusted.
00:39:26.000 And as our country supported Ukraine's move to hand over its nukes in 1994 in exchange for Russia's promise to invade, apparently we cannot be trusted.
00:39:34.000 Either, which is why it is now more important than ever to understand the biggest threat facing the United States.
00:39:39.000 It's not Russia, it is China.
00:39:40.000 Our new show, The Enemy Within, is a docuseries featuring acclaimed journalist and expert in national threats, Lee Smith.
00:39:46.000 Smith uncovers a political coup orchestrated by America's ruling class to generate their own wealth and power in exchange for the slow rise of China's Communist Party in America.
00:39:54.000 In the fourth episode, He describes how the NBA has come to depend on China for its profits, and as a result, how the NBA and its players have now become a mouthpiece for Chinese Communist Party propaganda.
00:40:03.000 Check out the trailer.
00:40:05.000 What if everything we think we know about our leaders, our society, and our relations with the rest of the world is wrong?
00:40:16.000 America is facing two major challenges.
00:40:20.000 One is the Chinese Communist Party.
00:40:22.000 However, the most significant threat comes from within.
00:40:26.000 You're trying to obscure responsibility for four million people dying around the world.
00:40:31.000 Okay, Senator Paul, you do not know what you are talking about.
00:40:35.000 We've already seen evidence of how the elites want to run the United States.
00:40:39.000 They're modeling themselves after Chinese autocracy.
00:40:43.000 For over a decade, the People's Republic of China has stood publicly accused of acts of cruelty and wickedness that match the cruelty and wickedness Many evil torturers and executioners.
00:41:01.000 Diane Feinstein had a Chinese spy as her driver for 20 years.
00:41:07.000 We're not talking about one person infiltrating senior levels at the CIA or the White House.
00:41:14.000 We're talking about an entire elite class throughout the political, corporate, academic, cultural, and media establishment.
00:41:23.000 My name is Lee Smith.
00:41:24.000 I've been a journalist for more than 30 years.
00:41:27.000 This is the most astonishing espionage and infiltration operation in history.
00:41:34.000 What you're going to see in this series will shock you.
00:41:38.000 This is the enemy within.
00:41:41.000 It's a vital stuffy.
00:41:48.000 It's a vital stuff.
00:41:52.000 You need to check it out if you want to know what kind of threats America faces.
00:41:55.000 All episodes of The Enemy Within are streaming right now exclusively at The Daily Wire.
00:41:58.000 So if you're not a member, now is the time to change that.
00:42:00.000 Head on over to dailywire.com slash subscribe.
00:42:02.000 Join us today.
00:42:03.000 You're listening to the largest, fastest growing conservative podcast and radio show in the nation.
00:42:12.000 So even members of the media can't shield Biden from his own incompetence here.
00:42:16.000 NBC's Pete Alexander says, what exactly are you waiting for?
00:42:19.000 Why are these sanctions so Swiss cheese holy?
00:42:21.000 Why is it that you have left so many gaps in these sanctions?
00:42:26.000 You detailed some severe and swift new sanctions today and said the impact it will have over time, but given the full-scale invasion, given that you're not pursuing disconnecting Russia from what's called SWIFT, the international banking system, or other sanctions at your disposal, respectfully, sir, what more are you waiting for?
00:42:48.000 Okay, so the answer that Joe Biden gave was nothing.
00:42:51.000 There's nothing that he's waiting for.
00:42:53.000 He just is not capable of mobilizing anybody in this way.
00:42:56.000 You've got his entire national security apparatus out there talking about what a grand unifier he is.
00:43:03.000 On what?
00:43:04.000 On what?
00:43:05.000 Fox News' Peter Doocy asked if Joe Biden had underestimated Putin.
00:43:08.000 Of course, Biden's never going to admit to having underestimated Putin, but the answer is he did.
00:43:13.000 Putin is an opportunist.
00:43:13.000 He saw an opportunity and took it.
00:43:15.000 I'm getting very tired of all these people saying that he's insane.
00:43:17.000 He's not insane, okay?
00:43:19.000 This is a very clear move by Vladimir Putin.
00:43:22.000 It is clearly rational.
00:43:23.000 It is very bad.
00:43:25.000 It is morally evil.
00:43:27.000 But you can do something that is morally evil and very bad and also clearly rational.
00:43:30.000 From his point of view, expanding the territory of the Russian Empire to include historic Ukraine, and doing so with a meetable cost, and in the process, basically breaking all bonds between the West and independent nations, that's a cost worth paying for Vladimir Putin.
00:43:51.000 Why wouldn't he do this?
00:43:52.000 Honest to God, I don't know why he wouldn't, given what he knows of the West.
00:43:56.000 The Naval Gazing West, which has blown out its debt to the tune of $30 trillion in the United States.
00:44:00.000 The United States now has a GDP to debt ratio, or a debt to GDP ratio, rather, of 119%.
00:44:07.000 The United States is busily trying to inculcate diversity, equity, and inclusion into armed forces and putting out commercials about transgenderism in the military.
00:44:18.000 Why exactly wouldn't Putin make that move?
00:44:20.000 What would be the overwhelming force that Putin would be afraid of meeting in Ukraine?
00:44:25.000 What would dissuade him from doing that?
00:44:27.000 You may think that his ambitions are crazy by your calculus, but that's because you don't understand his ambitions.
00:44:33.000 He wants to be Peter the Great.
00:44:35.000 He's actually more like a czar than he is like Stalin.
00:44:38.000 He's not interested in imposing communism as a worldwide program.
00:44:42.000 He's interested in the revanchist mentality that expands the Russian Empire.
00:44:47.000 He wants to go down in Russian history.
00:44:49.000 Biden wants to talk about history.
00:44:50.000 Putin wants to go down in Russian history as a great leader.
00:44:52.000 That means expanding the territorial holdings of Russia, which is historically, like in the 18th and 19th centuries, exactly what Russia used to do.
00:45:00.000 So why exactly is this somehow irrational?
00:45:04.000 It's not irrational.
00:45:06.000 He saw weakness.
00:45:07.000 He went for the jugular and Biden underestimated him, period.
00:45:10.000 Here's Peter Doocy asking Biden about it.
00:45:12.000 Did you underestimate Putin, and would you still describe him the way that you did in the summer, as a worthy adversary?
00:45:21.000 At the time, he was, I made it clear, as an adversary, and I said he was worthy.
00:45:26.000 I didn't underestimate him.
00:45:28.000 And I've read most of everything he's written.
00:45:30.000 Did you read, I shouldn't say, I'm not a wise guy.
00:45:34.000 You heard the speech he made, almost an hour's worth of speeches, why he was going into Ukraine.
00:45:39.000 He has much larger ambitions in Ukraine.
00:45:42.000 He wants to, in fact, reestablish the former Soviet Union.
00:45:46.000 That's what this is about.
00:45:49.000 Okay, well, if that's the case, then why are you not doing anything?
00:45:54.000 I mean, seriously, it's amazing.
00:45:56.000 Because here's the thing, they're not.
00:45:57.000 According to the White House's Dilip Singh, who is one of their deputy national security advisors, he says, oh yeah, don't worry, our sanctions, we're not gonna, we're not, we're actually not gonna target energy.
00:46:06.000 Only the largest sector of the Russian economy.
00:46:08.000 We're just gonna, we're not gonna touch that.
00:46:09.000 Because after all, Joe Biden understands that there's domestic cost.
00:46:13.000 So he'll tell you that he wants to impose domestic cost, but then he's afraid of actually imposing the domestic cost with something that might actually achieve something.
00:46:20.000 There is a Dilip Singh.
00:46:23.000 Targeting the Russian energy industry is totally off the table.
00:46:27.000 Is that what you're saying, Billy?
00:46:29.000 What I'm saying is that our measures were not designed to disrupt in any way the current flow of energy from Russia to the world.
00:46:35.000 Now, we have also said we are going to cut off Russia's access to cutting-edge technology.
00:46:41.000 That technology can be used across many sectors.
00:46:45.000 And so, as it relates to Russia's long-term productive capacity, we are seeking to degrade that capacity.
00:46:50.000 But nothing in the short term as it relates to energy.
00:46:55.000 Unbelievable.
00:46:56.000 Meanwhile, Tony Blinken, Secretary of State, doubled down on this.
00:46:58.000 He says, yeah, we're not even we're not even halting our oil and gas purchases from Russia.
00:47:03.000 These are top men, very serious people.
00:47:07.000 Would the U.S.
00:47:08.000 consider cutting off oil and gas purchases from Russia?
00:47:12.000 Well, what we're doing, Nora, across the board, is making sure that we inflict maximum pain on Russia for what President Putin has done, while minimizing any of the pain to us.
00:47:23.000 We're in full coordination with other countries, both consumers and producers alike, to minimize any impact that this may have on energy prices and on gasoline.
00:47:34.000 Amazing.
00:47:35.000 So yeah, we're not going to actually go after that part of his economy.
00:47:38.000 You know, the only part that actually matters.
00:47:39.000 We're not going to touch that.
00:47:40.000 We will continue buying.
00:47:41.000 By the way, not only will we continue buying natural gas and oil from Russia, we will also maintain our restrictions on American energy production.
00:47:48.000 Here was Jen Psaki yesterday from the White House.
00:47:49.000 She was asked if they will relieve restrictions on American energy production in order to, you know, increase our own productive capacity to fight off Russia and not be dependent on them.
00:47:58.000 And here's Jen Psaki being like, no, no, we got to listen to Greenpeace and Greta Thunberg.
00:48:02.000 I mean, what might happen if Greta Thunberg She got very upset with us.
00:48:05.000 If she was upset with us, what would we do?
00:48:07.000 What would we do?
00:48:09.000 This is what unserious nations do.
00:48:14.000 If there's an invasion of another country by a big country, there's going to be impacts on the markets, right?
00:48:19.000 And we certainly anticipated that, and we anticipate that as it relates to the global oil market as well.
00:48:24.000 So that's why the president for weeks now has been engaging with a range of big global suppliers, some in the Middle East, others, to see what we can do to ensure there's supply out there in the market to reduce the impact on the American people.
00:48:40.000 Okay, well, so no.
00:48:42.000 The answer to that question was no.
00:48:43.000 They will not relieve restrictions on American energy production.
00:48:46.000 They'll do things like release a little bit from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve.
00:48:49.000 They'll talk to OPEC.
00:48:50.000 But no, they wouldn't want to piss off the environmentalists in their own base.
00:48:53.000 So how dumb are these people?
00:48:55.000 How dumb are these people?
00:48:56.000 John Kerry went on TV in the last two days, and John Kerry literally said that the big problem here is that Ukraine might distract Russia from the real crisis, the climate crisis.
00:49:10.000 Here's John Kerry, Easter Island head, talking about how Russia needs to help us with climate change.
00:49:22.000 I'm very concerned about Ukraine because of the people of Ukraine and because of the principles that are at risk.
00:49:31.000 You know, I think hopefully President Putin would realize that in the northern part of his country they used to live on 66% of a nation that was over frozen land.
00:49:42.000 Now it's thawing.
00:49:43.000 And his infrastructure is at risk.
00:49:46.000 And the people of Russia are at risk.
00:49:48.000 And so I hope President Putin will help us to stay on track with respect to what we need to do for the climate.
00:49:56.000 Well, that's the real important thing.
00:49:58.000 That's the really important thing, guys.
00:49:59.000 We have to keep Russia on board with climate change.
00:50:02.000 And also we have to keep Russia on board so that we can make concessions to Iran, because we have an Iran deal under negotiation whereby we will give a bunch of money to a dictatorship That murders its own people and that threatens Israel with nuclear weapons.
00:50:14.000 I mean, priorities, guys.
00:50:16.000 We are a serious country.
00:50:17.000 We're very, very serious.
00:50:18.000 By the way, Kamala Harris, for her part, frankly, I'm shocked Kamala Harris didn't solve this problem.
00:50:22.000 She's such a problem solver.
00:50:23.000 We have now deployed her to so many places on the globe to solve problems.
00:50:26.000 We deployed her down to the Northern Triangle to try and stop the illegal immigration crisis.
00:50:30.000 She handled that.
00:50:31.000 Have you heard of illegal immigration being a problem in this country for months?
00:50:34.000 Probably not because she solved it.
00:50:36.000 You know, she solved it.
00:50:37.000 We've deployed Kamala Harris to deal with policing in the United States.
00:50:40.000 And that obviously, I mean, it's not as though murder rates are up dramatically.
00:50:43.000 We've deployed Kamala Harris pretty much everywhere on earth and everywhere she goes.
00:50:46.000 It's an unbroken litany of success.
00:50:49.000 And so when we deployed her to Munich to talk about the situation in Ukraine, we should have expected nothing less than the stellar success we've become accustomed to.
00:50:56.000 From this vice president of the United States, this most able and capable vice president of the United States.
00:51:01.000 So here was Kamala Harris touting sanctions.
00:51:03.000 Her own boss says are going to do nothing.
00:51:06.000 Today, the president outlined the sanctions, which are going to have a direct impact on Russia's economy, both in terms of sanctions and in terms of export controls.
00:51:17.000 Those the effect.
00:51:20.000 We'll be immediate on Russia and we will continue as we have from the very beginning to work with our allies and our partners around the world.
00:51:28.000 We are unified in our position on this and in our reaction to this unjustified, unprovoked attack on a sovereign nation.
00:51:41.000 And meanwhile, a State Department spokesperson said yesterday that these new sanctions were intended to shape the next moves, which is weird because basically Joe Biden said that the last sanctions didn't shape Russia's moves at all.
00:51:51.000 So here is Ned Price from the State Department.
00:51:55.000 What's the evidence that there is some connection between sanctions that we could impose and that Putin will have his behavior affected in the way that you hope?
00:52:02.000 Yeah, I want to be very clear, John.
00:52:04.000 These sanctions are not primarily punitive.
00:52:06.000 These measures are intended to shape, to contour Putin's next moves.
00:52:13.000 Contour.
00:52:14.000 Well, if we use the word contour, then that'll probably do it.
00:52:16.000 What if we use nuance?
00:52:17.000 How about nuance and contour?
00:52:20.000 What if we shape?
00:52:20.000 What if we mold?
00:52:22.000 Hey, you and your pretty words ain't doing crap.
00:52:24.000 Meanwhile, Vladimir Putin is firing rockets directly into the heart of Kiev.
00:52:28.000 Yeah.
00:52:30.000 Really bold stuff here.
00:52:32.000 Bold stuff here from the United States and from its allies.
00:52:38.000 Obviously, it's been so irrational for Vladimir Putin to invade Ukraine because he's having such massive costs imposed on him that are apparently accomplishing absolutely nothing.
00:52:45.000 Well, the good news is that we do have America's celebrities to help us out here in this particular crisis.
00:52:49.000 And without America's celebrities, what would we do?
00:52:52.000 So first, we had Joy Behar.
00:52:53.000 So Joy Behar, from The View, She noted her own disquiet with the situation in Ukraine because she knows the real cost of Russia taking over Ukraine.
00:53:05.000 It's gonna mess with her trip to Italy, guys.
00:53:07.000 I mean, the heart breaks just a little for Joy Behar.
00:53:12.000 We're talking about five million people that are going to be displaced.
00:53:17.000 I mean, it's heartbreaking to hear what is going to happen.
00:53:22.000 Well, I'm scared of what's going to happen in Western Europe, too.
00:53:25.000 Yeah.
00:53:26.000 You know, you just you plan a trip.
00:53:27.000 You want to go there.
00:53:28.000 I want to go to Italy for four years.
00:53:30.000 I haven't been able to make it because of the pandemic.
00:53:33.000 And now this, you know, it's like, who's going to what's going to happen there?
00:53:36.000 Yeah.
00:53:39.000 I mean, man, if her trip to Italy gets screwed with, wow.
00:53:44.000 I mean, that's when you know that the world has really gone haywire.
00:53:46.000 She couldn't get to Italy because of COVID.
00:53:48.000 And now she might not get to Italy because Vladimir Putin invaded Ukraine.
00:53:52.000 And all those grandmothers with guns trying to defend their apartments from invading Russian soldiers.
00:53:58.000 I think they should have in mind tonight just a little prayer for Joy Behar and her trip to Rome.
00:54:03.000 That's really where the The heart breaks, the heart breaks.
00:54:08.000 But there are some solutions that are being posited.
00:54:10.000 So for one, there's a woman named Annalyn McCord, who is on what, 90210?
00:54:16.000 I think she's been irrelevant for a few decades.
00:54:17.000 But she is suddenly relevant again.
00:54:19.000 Because she has hit upon the solution to the Ukraine crisis.
00:54:22.000 And that is reading poetry to Vladimir Putin about how she should have been his mother.
00:54:31.000 Yes, this is, um, it's a, it's a, it's a weird, it's a weird world.
00:54:37.000 This lady will eventually be president of the United States, the way we are going.
00:54:39.000 Here's Annalyn McCord.
00:54:41.000 Dear President Vladimir Putin, I'm so sorry that I was not your mother.
00:54:48.000 If I was your mother, you would have been so loved, held in the arms of joyous light.
00:54:53.000 Never would this story's plight, the world, unfurled before our eyes, a pure demise of nations sitting peaceful under a night sky.
00:55:01.000 If I was your mother, the world would have been warm, so much laughter and joy, and nothing would harm.
00:55:08.000 I can't imagine the stain, the soul-stealing pain that the little boy you must have seen and believed, and the formulation of thought quickly taught that you lived in a cruel, unjust world.
00:55:22.000 Mm.
00:55:24.000 Mm.
00:55:26.000 Well, if the hot girl from the OC had been Vladimir Putin's mom, all of this could have By the way, I do enjoy the low-key just bagging on Vladimir Putin's mom.
00:55:45.000 I mean, the converse of what she's saying is that Vladimir Putin had a terrible mother.
00:55:47.000 That's obviously why he is the way he is.
00:55:49.000 Must have been that she just beat him with a stick or something.
00:55:51.000 That's why he is.
00:55:52.000 It can't be that he is a geopolitically motivated thug dictator wishing to expand Russia's boundaries.
00:55:57.000 The real problem is that he has childhood It's that he had social anxiety when he was a kid and his mother didn't hold him and cuddle him enough.
00:56:04.000 Now what's funny about this is that basically that is the view of the left.
00:56:07.000 The view of the left is that Vladimir Putin is insane or irrational or pathological in some way and that the way that you get through to Vladimir Putin is kindness.
00:56:15.000 Kindness.
00:56:15.000 Maybe a little bit of economic sanctions.
00:56:16.000 A little bit.
00:56:17.000 Wouldn't want to go too far.
00:56:19.000 After all, he has to be part of the family of nations.
00:56:20.000 We need his help on climate change.
00:56:22.000 We need his help with Iran.
00:56:23.000 The world is filled with beautiful people who have different cultures from our own that we will not try to pretend to understand in any way.
00:56:28.000 We'll just assume they want the same stuff that we do.
00:56:31.000 And because we assume they want the same stuff as we do, if we offer them that stuff, they'll probably do what we want them to do.
00:56:35.000 And then when they don't want to do that, then we will assume that it's because they had some sort of brutal childhood trauma and they're pathological.
00:56:42.000 I'm not sure there's any more solipsistic culture on planet Earth than the culture of the West at this point.
00:56:47.000 We are so obsessed with our own stupidities that not only do we engross ourselves in these stupidities to the exclusion of world events, but then we assume that everybody else is also engrossed in these stupidities.
00:56:59.000 By the way, this crosses all political lines.
00:57:02.000 You see this on the right, you see this on the left.
00:57:04.000 In the United States, there's this weird habit of assuming that because we have a thing going on here, that this means the rest of the world doesn't matter.
00:57:10.000 This is the habit of sort of the isolationist right.
00:57:12.000 Now, we have a lot of problems here.
00:57:13.000 We have a lot of problems with wokeness in the schools.
00:57:16.000 We have a problem with critical race theory.
00:57:16.000 True.
00:57:17.000 True.
00:57:18.000 We have a problem with gender fluidity being taught to small children.
00:57:20.000 True.
00:57:21.000 Therefore, we shouldn't do anything about Ukraine.
00:57:23.000 Huh?
00:57:24.000 That sort of solipsistic navel-gazing is not helpful to people who you know are about to be blown up by Vladimir Putin, for example.
00:57:30.000 Or to the Taiwanese.
00:57:32.000 And it turns out that foreign policy does have an impact on your real life, because when shipping lanes get cut off in the South China Sea, all the stuff that you like is no longer available.
00:57:41.000 And, by the way, when you have rival civilizations that are rising, this also has an impact on the confidence and future of the country in which you live.
00:57:50.000 I mean, so that's from the right.
00:57:51.000 From the left, you have this view that really what the people of the world want is the transgenderism.
00:57:56.000 What they really, really want is a left-wing point of view about democratic socialism expanded to them.
00:58:02.000 And so if we just cut them a few checks, if we massage their back, if we hold them in the warm embrace of motherhood, then magically they will come around and they will just be the best people.
00:58:10.000 They will be our friends, because at heart, freedom and liberty will win.
00:58:13.000 But our style of freedom, our style of liberty, they have the same priorities that we do.
00:58:18.000 So on the isolationist right, the idea is they have different priorities than we do.
00:58:21.000 Therefore, we shouldn't care about what happens outside our own borders at all.
00:58:24.000 And then on the surrender-oriented left, the idea is they have the same priorities that we do.
00:58:29.000 They just don't know it yet.
00:58:30.000 So we will try to throw things at them.
00:58:32.000 We'll try to give them carrots.
00:58:33.000 And then if they spit in our face, then we will assume that there's something wrong with them.
00:58:36.000 But there's not much that we can do about that.
00:58:38.000 After all, deep down in the cockles of their heart, they know that we are right and they wish to live the way we do.
00:58:44.000 Or, alternatively, all of this is wrong.
00:58:46.000 And the world is filled with a lot of people with a lot of different ambitions.
00:58:48.000 And you have to look in steely-eyed fashion at what people want and how they intend to achieve those objectives and whether you seek to impede those objectives with actual measures designed to prevent them from achieving those objectives.
00:58:59.000 That's how you do foreign policy.
00:59:00.000 But nobody seems to want to do foreign policy that way.
00:59:03.000 And that's why you end up with the mess that you have in Ukraine.
00:59:05.000 By the way, it ain't gonna end in Ukraine.
00:59:07.000 I know right now everybody's got their eyes on Eastern Europe and Latvia and Estonia.
00:59:11.000 Lithuania.
00:59:13.000 The notion that Vladimir Putin is going to invade those particular countries?
00:59:17.000 I think that's unlikely in the near future.
00:59:18.000 I think he's perfectly happy with having carved off this giant chunk the size of Texas in the middle of Eastern Europe.
00:59:23.000 Seems like a pretty good start for his global empire.
00:59:26.000 But the place we should be looking right now is, of course, Taiwan.
00:59:30.000 And we're not.
00:59:32.000 The Biden administration is more focused on all of the things that they say everybody else should be focused on.
00:59:36.000 Climate change, racial equality and justice, systemic injustice and systemic racism and income inequality and all the other nonsense causes that they've dedicated their lives to.
00:59:48.000 That's where they're going to focus.
00:59:50.000 Until precisely the moment that China makes a move on Taiwan, at which point there will again be a lot of naval gazing and some talk about sanctions, but we wouldn't want to sanction China too toughly.
00:59:57.000 I mean, after all, since the 1970s, we've basically admitted that Taiwan was a part of China.
01:00:02.000 So do we really have a leg to stand on here?
01:00:04.000 This pattern will be repeated until the West decides to get lean and mean and hungry again and realize that what motivates it doesn't necessarily motivate everybody else, but that what motivates us is good if we look to the heart of what our civilization ought to be and was.
01:00:17.000 But until that point, they're going to take the style in line.
01:00:20.000 You push where there's mush.
01:00:22.000 You just push as far as you can until somebody stops you.
01:00:25.000 Ain't nobody stopping Vlad.
01:00:26.000 Ain't nobody stopping the Chinese yet.
01:00:28.000 So that means they're going to continue pushing.
01:00:30.000 So get ready for things to get a lot worse.
01:00:32.000 Alrighty, we'll be here for another hour later today.
