00:00:00.000 The media make me want to vomit and never stop vomiting.
00:00:04.000 So you remember last week there was some weirdo and he's at a Donald Trump event and he asks Trump a question and he talks about how Muslims are the worst and in the process he says that Barack Obama is a Muslim.
00:00:13.000 And Donald Trump of course doesn't correct the guy.
00:00:15.000 He doesn't say anything.
00:00:17.000 Well of course this sets the media on fire because Donald Trump is not John McCain who would have corrected him right off the bat.
00:00:22.000 And so that means that it's not just about Donald Trump anymore.
00:00:24.000 Now the media have to ask Dr. Ben Carson whether a Muslim can be president.
00:00:29.000 So here is my question.
00:00:31.000 Why ask the question?
00:00:32.000 Is there a Muslim running?
00:00:33.000 Did I miss it?
00:00:34.000 Did Bernie Sanders recite the Shahada while we weren't looking?
00:00:37.000 Is Hillary Clinton secretly grabbing the prayer rope?
00:00:39.000 What is going on?
00:00:40.000 And this isn't even the media's first dumb question of the week.
00:00:43.000 You remember in the debate last week, the Republicans were all asked about this Texas Muslim kid who took the guts out of a clock and then brought it to school and then he got suspended because you're not allowed to bring things that look like bombs to school.
00:00:54.000 But meanwhile, no more questions for Hillary about her emails, and no more questions for Obama about Syrian refugees, and no more questions about the Iran deal, no more questions about increasing poverty.
00:01:02.000 All the real questions go away.
00:01:04.000 But at least we now know where Ben Carson stands on the Muslim candidates for president.
00:01:08.000 And I cannot wait to hear where he stands on the Wiccans.
00:01:12.000 I desperately want to hear about what he thinks.
00:01:15.000 Can witches be president?
00:01:17.000 And besides Hillary Clinton?
00:01:19.000 What unbelievable stupidity.
00:01:20.000 So Carson gives a really dumb answer politically.
00:01:22.000 The real answer is that values, which can be defined by religion but don't have to be, should determine whether somebody is a good candidate or not.
00:01:29.000 But the question is way dumber than the answer and is way more insulting.
00:01:33.000 It's designed to make Carson and all Republicans look like terrible bigots when the same media would destroy any candidate who based their understanding of gay marriage on Leviticus or, for example, thought that the world was created in six days with God resting on the seventh.
00:01:46.000 Distaste for religion?
00:01:47.000 It only matters when Republicans do it.
00:01:49.000 But when Democrats in the media do it, it's called, of course, being reasonable.
00:01:53.000 I'm Ben Shapiro, and this is The Ben Shapiro Show.
00:02:05.000 So welcome, everybody.
00:02:06.000 This is my long-awaited return, and I promised it would be here, and thus, it has come.
00:02:10.000 So much to talk about here on The Ben Shapiro Show.
00:02:13.000 I want to get to in just a few minutes this terrible story The New York Times is reporting about how the United States military was actually covering up pederasty over in Afghanistan.
00:02:22.000 Some of our allies
00:02:23.000 We're actually raping small young boys, which I guess is a thing over there, and President Obama's military was actually threatening to discipline anybody who reported it, so we'll get to that in just a second.
00:02:32.000 But we start today with Dr. Ben Carson, who is on one of the Sunday shows with Chuck Todd, and he was specifically asked about Donald Trump and about Islam and about whether a Muslim could be a candidate for President of the United States, whether he would vote for a Muslim for President of the United States, which is an unbelievably dumb question.
00:02:49.000 It's an unbelievably dumb question because there are zero Muslims running for president of the United States.
00:02:53.000 I mean, we might as well ask him whether he thinks that we should be voting for bisexual black midgets for president of the United States.
00:03:01.000 What is the bearing?
00:03:02.000 What does this have to do with anything?
00:03:04.000 We do have the clip.
00:03:04.000 Here is Dr. Ben Carson with Chuck Todd over on, what is this, NBC or CBS?
00:03:09.000 One of the networks.
00:03:09.000 Here we go.
00:03:10.000 Let me ask you the question this way.
00:03:13.000 Should a president's faith matter?
00:03:15.000 Should your faith matter to voters?
00:03:17.000 Well, I guess it depends on what that faith is.
00:03:20.000 If it's inconsistent with the values and principles of America, then of course... Okay, so first he starts and he's exactly right.
00:03:27.000 Of course, what he's saying there is that faith should matter if it's in conflict with the values of the Constitution.
00:03:32.000 Then Ben Carson shows that he's sort of an amateur.
00:03:34.000 And the reason that we need to point this out is because the polling numbers right now for Ben Carson are pretty solid, but I think you're going to see him fade.
00:03:41.000 I think you're going to start to see another amateur, somebody like Carly Fiorina,
00:03:45.000 We're good to go.
00:04:05.000 If he keeps making mistakes like the one he's about to make right here, then he's going to drop in the polls.
00:04:09.000 He starts off well, and then he gets off track.
00:04:12.000 Again, the question's stupid, but he's still a presidential candidate and he has an obligation to answer stupid questions well.
00:04:18.000 He doesn't do that here.
00:04:19.000 Here's Ben Carson continuing.
00:04:20.000 If it fits within the realm of America and consistent with the Constitution, no problem.
00:04:28.000 So do you believe that Islam is consistent with the Constitution?
00:04:33.000 No, I don't.
00:04:34.000 I do not.
00:04:35.000 I would not advocate that we put a Muslim in charge of that.
00:04:39.000 Okay, let's pause it right there.
00:04:41.000 Okay, so he gives another part of the answer right there.
00:04:43.000 And again, the answer itself starts off okay.
00:04:45.000 He's asked, is Islam in conflict with the Constitution?
00:04:48.000 Now, there's a very strong case.
00:04:50.000 Let's not be politically correct for a second.
00:04:52.000 There's a very strong case that traditional Islam is not in consonance with the Constitution.
00:04:57.000 Sharia law is not in consonance with the Constitution.
00:04:59.000 There's no idea of balances and checks in the Quran.
00:05:02.000 There is certainly nothing in the history of Islamic countries to suggest
00:05:06.000 That Islam itself would tolerate, or be okay with, or embrace the idea of American limited government constitutionalism.
00:05:13.000 It just doesn't exist within Islam.
00:05:15.000 Now, that doesn't answer the question that he then goes ahead and answers, which is, can a Muslim be president?
00:05:20.000 Because, let's be honest for a second, if you were to just read the Old Testament, without any reference to what Jews today think, if you were just to read the Old Testament,
00:05:30.000 The Old Testament pretty much embraces monarchy, right?
00:05:32.000 I mean, this is something that the Old Testament does.
00:05:34.000 The New Testament as well.
00:05:35.000 I mean, the idea of religion embracing governmental systems that are not pure democracies or constitutional democracies, that's nothing new.
00:05:42.000 However, there is no question that the Judeo-Christian ethic
00:05:47.000 is the soil in which American democracy, American small-r republicanism is rooted.
00:05:53.000 The same thing is not true of Islam.
00:05:54.000 So you could say Islam itself is not in consonance with the Constitution, but you could see a reinterpretation of Islam, or there are certain interpretations of Islam, or there may be a candidate who comes along who's Muslim who can interpret Islam in ways that would be conducive to belief in the United States Constitution.
00:06:10.000 He could have done all of those things.
00:06:13.000 He doesn't do any of those things.
00:06:14.000 Instead, he just says he doesn't think a Muslim should be president, and then he tries to buy it back, and you'll see Ben Carson try to buy it back right here.
00:06:20.000 Again, not the smoothest guy on his feet, and that is a problem in a presidential race.
00:06:24.000 He'll continue.
00:06:25.000 This nation?
00:06:26.000 I absolutely would not agree with that.
00:06:28.000 And would you ever consider voting for a Muslim for Congress?
00:06:31.000 Congress is a different story, but it depends on who that Muslim is and what their policies are, just as it depends on what anybody else is.
00:06:41.000 And if there's somebody who's of any faith,
00:06:47.000 But they say things and their life has been consistent with things that will elevate this nation and make it possible for everybody to succeed and bring peace and harmony, then I'm with them.
00:07:02.000 Okay, okay.
00:07:03.000 So, there's Ben Carson.
00:07:05.000 That is not—in the end of the answer, what he says about Congress is what he should have said about presidents, obviously, but he didn't, and so he got himself in all sorts of trouble.
00:07:12.000 This, of course, left the door open to some of the more pandering members of the Republican caucus, people like Lindsey Graham.
00:07:18.000 Senator Graham, who is in desperate need of some sort of bump in the polls and will grasp attention any place that he possibly can.
00:07:24.000 And who, by the way, looks more and more these days like a Star Wars character.
00:07:28.000 You know, the one who's the interpreter for Jabba the Hutt, who's got the red eyes and the weird, like, tentacle that comes across his neck.
00:07:35.000 But Lindsey Graham, he comes out and he blasts Ben Carson when asked about it.
00:07:40.000 Here is Senator Lindsey Graham talking about Ben Carson, saying Carson should apologize.
00:07:45.000 I think this shows that Dr. Carson's not ready to be Commander-in-Chief.
00:07:49.000 He said that he didn't believe somebody of the Muslim faith could be loyal to the Constitution.
00:07:54.000 My belief is that the 3,500, approximate 3,500, American Muslims wearing the uniform of the United States military are loyal to their country.
00:08:04.000 They're fighting and dying for their nation.
00:08:07.000 When I was Colonel Graham back in Afghanistan a couple of years ago, during the second election of Karzai, I had an opportunity to go to a polling station during the election with military members... Ah, here we go.
00:08:19.000 Okay, that's enough Lindsey Graham.
00:08:20.000 We don't need to listen to him talk and translate Java.
00:08:23.000 Obviously, what he's saying is true in the sense that there are many Muslim members of the United States military.
00:08:28.000 Obviously, the rip on Carson is justified.
00:08:30.000 It's also an opportunistic rip, and that's just who Lindsey Graham is, which is why he's not going to win any points with his audience.
00:08:35.000 I'm not sure who he thinks he's talking to exactly, but this demonstrates, this whole conversation demonstrates what is truly an incredible thing, which the media is desperate to paint Republicans as xenophobes, people who hate Muslims, people who dislike people of other cultures, and it's
00:08:51.000 It's a purposeful thing.
00:08:53.000 It's a purposeful thing.
00:08:53.000 And you can see that it's a purposeful thing because over the weekend, it wasn't just about Ben Carson, of course.
00:08:58.000 CNN's Jake Tapper felt the need to ask Donald Trump, what is his problem with Muslims?
00:09:02.000 What's the problem with Muslims?
00:09:03.000 And here is this exchange with the ever-entertaining, oddly coiffed Donald Trump.
00:09:08.000 CNN's Jake Tapper and Donald Trump.
00:09:10.000 Here we go.
00:09:12.000 But anyway, we have training camps growing where they want to kill us.
00:09:19.000 That's my question.
00:09:20.000 When can we get rid of them?
00:09:21.000 We're going to be looking at a lot of different things.
00:09:23.000 And you know, a lot of people are saying that, and a lot of people are saying that bad things are happening out there.
00:09:27.000 We're going to be looking at that and plenty of other things.
00:09:31.000 Mr. Trump, forget the notion of defending President Obama for a second.
00:09:34.000 I don't want to really talk about that.
00:09:36.000 You are running to be President of the United States of America.
00:09:39.000 That includes millions of peaceful, law-abiding, Muslim-American citizens who love this country.
00:09:43.000 This man said, quote, we have a problem in this country.
00:09:46.000 It's called Muslims.
00:09:47.000 Now, you are not responsible for what he says, but this is raw, unvarnished, ignorant bigotry.
00:09:54.000 You are a leader.
00:09:55.000 You're the frontrunner in the Republican race.
00:09:58.000 Do you not have a responsibility to call out?
00:10:02.000 Well, you know, we could be politically correct if you want, but certainly, are you trying to say we don't have a problem?
00:10:07.000 Because I think everybody would agree.
00:10:09.000 I have friends that are Muslims.
00:10:10.000 They're great people, amazing people, and most Muslims like most everything.
00:10:15.000 I mean, these are fabulous people, but we certainly do have a problem.
00:10:19.000 I mean, you have a problem throughout the world.
00:10:22.000 What's the problem?
00:10:23.000 Well, you have radicals that are doing things.
00:10:25.000 I mean, it wasn't people from Sweden that blew up the World Trade Center, Jake.
00:10:29.000 I get that, but to say we have a...
00:10:32.000 Okay, I'll stop it there.
00:10:33.000 And here's the problem with Jake Tapper.
00:10:35.000 This is why Trump is popular.
00:10:36.000 Trump is popular because what he says there is absolutely true, and he's reframing the question.
00:10:40.000 The way that Tapper asks the question originally, he says, what's the problem with Muslims?
00:10:45.000 Because we have so many great Muslims.
00:10:46.000 And Trump says, yeah, we have so many great Muslims, but that's not really who this guy is asking about.
00:10:50.000 And what Trump is doing is he's focusing this guy's too broad criticism and his true broad and idiotic critique, and he's focusing it on what is the real problem.
00:10:58.000 This is why Trump is popular, because he sort of naturally does that.
00:11:02.000 And of course, Trump is exactly right.
00:11:03.000 But the fact that everybody is now being asked about this, this is what's shocking.
00:11:07.000 It truly is.
00:11:07.000 It's shocking to me.
00:11:09.000 The juxtaposition between the odd idea that Republicans are the people who are anti-Muslim, and then the behavior of the Obama administration, which is anti-Muslim all over the world.
00:11:18.000 More Muslims are suffering and dying and being raped because of President Obama and his weakness than anything the Republicans are saying about Islamic candidates for President of the United States or what they're saying at rallies.
00:11:30.000 Here's the story that I referenced at the top of the show.
00:11:33.000 There's a story from the New York Times today, quote,
00:11:37.000 In his last phone call home, Lance Corporal Gregory Buckley Jr.
00:11:40.000 told his father what was troubling him.
00:11:42.000 From his bunk in southern Afghanistan, he could hear Afghan police officers sexually abusing boys they had brought to the base.
00:11:50.000 Quote, The Marine's father, Gregory Buckley Sr., recalled his son telling him before he was shot to death at the base in 2012,
00:11:58.000 He urged his son to tell his superiors, quote, my son said that his officers told him to look the other way because it's their culture.
00:12:05.000 According to the New York Times, the American policy of non-intervention is intended to maintain good relations with the Afghan police and militia units the United States has trained to fight the Taliban.
00:12:15.000 It also reflects a reluctance to impose cultural values in a country where pederasty is rife, particularly among powerful men for whom being surrounded by young teenagers can be the mark of social status.
00:12:25.000 I do love how they term
00:12:28.000 Again, what the media do here, what they do,
00:12:44.000 They juxtapose the supposed xenophobia of Republicans with the supposed broad-mindedness of Democrats.
00:12:49.000 Well, the broad-mindedness of Democrats includes the rape of Muslim boys by other Muslims in Afghanistan, and American troops are supposed to not just sit there, but forward this, ignore it, foster it.
00:12:59.000 You tell me who's anti-Muslim.
00:13:01.000 Is it Dr. Ben Carson, who's the real problem here?
00:13:03.000 Or is it President Obama, who's getting Muslims killed, getting Muslims drowned, and getting young Muslim boys raped in Afghanistan?
00:13:09.000 This is The Ben Shapiro Show, and I am Ben Shapiro.
