Summary

Vlad Putin has an excuse for Hillary Clinton losing a near-guaranteed presidential election, and it's a good one! President Trump meets with Kanye West and makes a major announcement from Trump Tower, and the rest is history. Ben Shapiro breaks it all down and explains why this is a huge deal, and what it means for the future of the economy and the world, and why we should all be worried about what's going on in the stock market and the economy's future in general, not what's happening in the world and the news in general. Ben also explains why Kanye West is a genius, and how he and Donald Trump have a warm relationship, and talks about how Kanye and Trump have been friends for a long time, which is a weird thing for people who mock President Obama incessantly for having a relationship with celebrities, but it's not a bad thing in the long-term, right? Also, Ben explains why he thinks Kanye West was wearing a white suit to meet with Donald Trump and why that's weird, and also why it's weird that Ray Lewis wasn't wearing a suit to a meeting with President Trump. And much, much more! Ben and Ben discuss it all on today's episode of The Ben Shapiro Show! Subscribe to the Ben Shapiro Podcast! Subscribe to Ben Shapiro on Apple Podcasts! 00:00:01.000 Barack Obama has to find an excuse for Hillary Clinton losing a near-guaranteed presidential race.
00:00:05.000 And he has one!
00:00:06.000 It's Vlad Putin!
00:00:08.000 White House spokesman Josh Earnest explained, quote, So he certainly had a pretty good sense of whose side this cyber activity was coming down on the last several weeks.
00:00:25.000 We're good.
00:00:42.000 Unquote.
00:00:42.000 Now, as I explained yesterday, Hillary didn't lose because of Vladimir Putin.
00:00:46.000 She lost because she was an awful, terrible, horrible candidate that no one likes and wishes would go away.
00:00:50.000 And because Barack Obama has devastated his party at every single level of government.
00:00:54.000 But Obama has to find an excuse, aside from his own arrogance and Hillary's own incompetence, for the destruction of his legacy.
00:01:00.000 And Putin is as good an excuse as any.
00:01:02.000 But that's not the only excuse Obama has trotted out.
00:01:04.000 He's trotted out fake news.
00:01:06.000 Pretending that a bunch of rubes reading false headlines on Facebook elevated Trump to the presidency.
00:01:10.000 If only they'd paid attention to the real fake news distributed by the White House and members of the mainstream media, all would have been well.
00:01:16.000 And of course, Obama thinks the legacy of racism is responsible for the backlash against his presidency.
00:01:22.000 He was appearing with the execrable Trevor Noah and he explained, quote, we have by no means overcome the legacies of slavery and Jim Crow and colonialism and racism.
00:01:30.000 Obama continued by stating he had handled the issue of race just beautifully.
00:01:34.000 I mean, ignore the race riots, and the DOJ targeting police departments, and Obama making stupid comments about black people being shot by the cops, but he's a genius, and not everybody had appreciated that.
00:01:43.000 He said, quote, I don't think that trying to appeal to the better angels of our nature, as Lincoln put it, is somehow compromised.
00:01:50.000 There are many reasons why Hillary Clinton lost, but Putin, fake news, and racism aren't among them.
00:01:54.000 Barack Obama most definitely is.
00:01:56.000 I'm Ben Shapiro.
00:01:57.000 This is The Ben Shapiro Show.

00:02:44.000 And Birchgold, those are the people that you want to talk to when you're ready to invest.
00:02:47.000 Birchgold.com slash Ben.
00:02:48.000 Okay, so tons to get to today here on the Ben Shapiro Show.
00:02:51.000 First of all,
00:02:52.000 It is imperative to note that Donald Trump made a major announcement today, a really major announcement today from Trump Tower.
00:03:00.000 And he met with someone just, this is an amazing story.
00:03:04.000 This is, you know, this is clip, I think this is clip three here.
00:03:08.000 He met with somebody who may be a member of his cabinet, may not be a member of his cabinet, but really an important meeting.
00:03:14.000 Here's footage from Trump Tower this morning.
00:03:22.000 Just friends.
00:03:23.000 Just friends.
00:03:23.000 And he's a good man.
00:03:26.000 Doing well.
00:03:27.000 Long time.
00:03:28.000 We've been friends for a long time.
00:03:31.000 Life.
00:03:32.000 We discussed it.
00:03:40.000 It's Kanye West, by the way, for people who are watching, who are listening to this later.
00:03:44.000 I just want to take a picture right now.
00:03:55.000 I don't know what this was supposed to be, but it was weird.
00:03:59.000 So Kanye West shows up.
00:04:00.000 He wasn't the only one to show up, by the way.
00:04:01.000 Apparently, Ray Lewis showed up, also wearing his white suit.
00:04:04.000 Ray Lewis, the linebacker for the Baltimore Ravens.
00:04:06.000 He was wearing his white suit, which had Secret Service deeply concerned, because last time Ray Lewis wore a white suit, somebody got stabbed to death.
00:04:14.000 We're good to go.
00:04:29.000 Okay, so that's just the point here.
00:04:31.000 As somebody who mocked President Obama incessantly for meeting with celebrities, I have to mock Donald Trump for doing exactly the same thing.
00:04:40.000 We have now entered the realm of the surreal.
00:04:42.000 Kanye West at Trump Tower with Donald Trump.
00:04:45.000 Of course, that's not...
00:04:46.000 The major news of the day, Kanye and Trump have a warm relationship.
00:04:49.000 They have for a while.
00:04:50.000 If you recall, Donald Trump, and this is going to be a running theme, Donald Trump tends to treat people who praise him and bow before him as friends and wonderful, sweet political lovers.
00:04:59.000 Kanye West had praised Trump before.
00:05:01.000 Here's his video of Kanye West praising Trump.
00:05:03.000 Just to put the audacity to put Anna Wintour right next to Donald Trump.
00:05:09.000 I mean, like, I put Ray J in it, bro.
00:05:12.000 Like.
00:05:18.000 This is fame, bro!
00:05:20.000 Like... I'm gonna let you finish, but I have no idea what you're talking about.
00:05:27.000 And then Trump praised Kanye, of course, because Kanye's a fan of Trump.
00:05:30.000 Kanye West, you know what?
00:05:31.000 I'll never say bad about him.
00:05:32.000 You know why?
00:05:33.000 Because he loves Trump.
00:05:35.000 He loves Trump.
00:05:36.000 He goes around saying, Trump is my all-time hero.
00:05:39.000 He says it to everybody.
00:05:40.000 So Kanye West, I love him.
00:05:42.000 Now maybe in a few years I'll have to run against him.
00:05:45.000 I don't know.
00:05:45.000 So I'll take that back.
00:05:46.000 But you know what?
00:05:47.000 He's been so nice to me.
00:05:48.000 I sort of, you people have sort of seen, because I've been a counterpuncher.
00:05:51.000 I only hit people when they hit me.
00:05:54.000 Only.
00:05:55.000 And Kanye West has been so great, I would never say bad about him because he says such nice things about me.
00:06:00.000 This is Kanye West, your new secretary of doing dope bleep.
00:06:04.000 He's gonna be doing some real dope bleep over at the White House.
00:06:07.000 It is amazing.
00:06:07.000 Speaking of people who he'll never say bad about because they say nice about him, Vladimir Putin, apparently, he's got nothing bad to say about that.
00:06:14.000 So Donald Trump has rolled out his new secretary of state nominee, the person he's picked, it's Exxon CEO Rex Tillerson.
00:06:21.000 He was so excited about it, about making America great again, that he actually
00:06:24.000 In his announcement, he actually played the National Anthem.
00:06:26.000 It was really exciting.
00:06:35.000 Come on.
00:06:36.000 That's not fair.
00:06:37.000 Okay, that's not fair.
00:06:38.000 That's not right.
00:06:39.000 By the way, I will say this about the Russian National Anthem.
00:06:42.000 It's pretty spectacular.
00:06:43.000 This was the original USSR National Anthem.
00:06:46.000 Actually, originally it was the Internationale.
00:06:47.000 Then it became this one, which is a great National Anthem.
00:06:50.000 And then they moved away from it.
00:06:51.000 They used one that was written by a guy named Glinka, a very famous classical composer.
00:06:57.000 And then Putin, because he's actually a Soviet KGB guy, reimposed the USSR national anthem.
00:07:02.000 But in any case, here's what we know about Mr. Tillerson, who is the new Secretary of State pick.
00:07:09.000 Well, we know that he does like Vladimir Putin.
00:07:11.000 He and Putin are on very friendly terms.
00:07:13.000 Here's just a few pictures from their honeymoon.
00:07:15.000 Here's them together, you know, just enjoying each other's company.
00:07:19.000 And there they are looking longingly into one another's eyes at an ExxonMobil event.
00:07:23.000 And here's them just shaking hands.
00:07:26.000 And then here is when Vladimir Putin gave Rex Tillerson an engagement ring.
00:07:31.000 It's actually just a medal.
00:07:32.000 The order of friendship.
00:07:34.000 Now, here's what I would like to say about Tillerson and Putin.
00:07:37.000 The issue here is not Tillerson, okay?
00:07:39.000 Tillerson was the head of ExxonMobil.
00:07:40.000 ExxonMobil had business relationships in Russia.
00:07:43.000 That's not, you know, super shocking.
00:07:44.000 ExxonMobil has business relationships with a lot of terrible people.
00:07:47.000 In 2011, they signed this very lucrative contract.
00:07:51.000 We're good.
00:08:08.000 He's not somebody that you want to play with.
00:08:09.000 There are three separate presidents who have now tried to play footsie with Vladimir Putin, and three separate times Vladimir Putin has humiliated them by doing exactly what he wants to do, running roughshod into other countries, murdering people.
00:08:20.000 In Syria right now, people backed by Vladimir Putin are murdering women and children.
00:08:24.000 There are women who are committing suicide rather than be raped by Assad's forces in Aleppo.
00:08:28.000 It is Putin who's standing behind Assad's forces.
00:08:30.000 Putin's a very bad guy and all these people who think that you're going to be able to use Vladimir Putin to your advantage.
00:08:35.000 No, Vladimir Putin is not used by you and he's not used by Trump.
00:08:38.000 Vladimir Putin is a user.
00:08:39.000 He is not the usee.
00:08:40.000 It's not going to be Trump using Vladimir Putin to do his bidding.
00:08:44.000 It's going to be Vladimir Putin doing what he wants to do and Trump standing to the side letting him do it.
00:08:49.000 I'm not going to blame Rex Tillerson for being the head of Exxon.
00:08:52.000 I'm sure that a lot of heads of Exxon would have done exactly what Rex Tillerson did.
00:08:55.000 I don't think he's a uniquely bad human being.
00:08:57.000 I don't think he's a uniquely bad politician or anything.
00:08:59.000 I do think that Donald Trump's decision to massage Vladimir Putin's ass for literally the entirety of this election cycle
00:09:08.000 And now continuing forward, that should be troublesome to a lot of Republicans.
00:09:11.000 Look, it should be troublesome that the Russians are so excited about this.
00:09:14.000 There's a Russian MP who tweeted this out earlier today.
00:09:17.000 His name is Alexey Pushkov, and he is a fellow who has said in the past that the Navy Yard shooting, if you remember in Washington, D.C.
00:09:26.000 a few years back, the Navy Yard shooting, he said that that was American exceptionalism, very anti-American guy.
00:09:33.000 He celebrated the appointment of Tillerson because he's considered
00:09:37.000 A Russian ally.
00:09:54.000 All the way up to and including denying that Putin had ever killed journalists, which is not true.
00:09:57.000 Him denying that Putin was a human rights violator.
00:10:00.000 America's violated human rights, too.
00:10:01.000 He's been very, very much in Putin's corner.
00:10:04.000 Obviously, his former campaign manager, Paul Manafort, was so much in Putin's corner that he was being investigated by the FBI.
00:10:09.000 So, this has not changed.
00:10:11.000 It's disquieting.
00:10:12.000 This isn't about Tillerson.
00:10:13.000 It's about Trump.
00:10:15.000 And it is not a good indicator.
00:10:17.000 Again, Vladimir Putin is one of the world's worst human beings.
00:10:19.000 Vladimir Putin murders dissidents.
00:10:21.000 Vladimir Putin runs a petro-oligarchy, where he and his friends own all the assets in Russia.
00:10:26.000 Vladimir Putin has now built a personal fortune somewhere in the neighborhood of $40 billion.
00:10:30.000 $40 billion.
00:10:31.000 He just built himself a giant $1 billion mansion.
00:10:33.000 He imprisons dissidents.
00:10:35.000 He has shut down freedom of the press.
00:10:37.000 Vladimir Putin is an absolute kleptocrat dictator, and he's an evil, evil fellow who's engaged in some of the worst human rights atrocities that we've seen in the past 10, 15 years.
00:10:49.000 He also has obviously invaded surrounding countries, Crimea.
00:10:52.000 He invaded Georgia when George W. Bush was president.
00:10:55.000 Now, a lot of people are pointing out that Condi Rice and Bob Gates and some kind of heavyweights have endorsed Tillerson.
00:11:00.000 Two things to note about that.
00:11:02.000 Bob Gates and Condi Rice run a consulting firm for which Tillerson is a client.
00:11:07.000 Dick Cheney has praised Tillerson.
00:11:09.000 He is not somebody who presumably has business interests directly with Tillerson.
00:11:14.000 James Baker, who actually works with Putin very closely, has praised Tillerson.
00:11:19.000 Again, I'm not saying Tillerson's a bad guy.
00:11:21.000 I'm not even saying that Tillerson is, you know, anti-American or has Putin's best interests at heart or any of that.
00:11:27.000 What I am saying is the only thing that Trump knows about him and the only thing anybody knows about him on foreign policy is that he's super tight with Putin, and that was the reason why Trump picked him in the first place.
00:11:35.000 And that is disturbing.
00:11:36.000 That should be disturbing to anybody who cares about this sort of stuff.
00:11:39.000 Again, Vladimir Putin's a very, very bad guy, and it is disturbing to me how many Republicans are willing to embrace this just because it's Trump doing it.
00:11:47.000 You can call hypocrisy on Democrats, and I'm happy to do that.
00:11:50.000 We'll talk about that in a second.
00:11:51.000 Democrats are hypocrites about Russia, but
00:11:54.000 So are Republicans.
00:11:54.000 I mean, you really don't get to claim that you are anti-Putin if you're then going to sit around claiming that Donald Trump is doing wonders by siding with Putin.
00:12:01.000 We'll get to that in just a second.
00:12:02.000 By the way, Tillerson also has a pretty checkered record with regard to things like global warming, which does make a difference.
00:12:07.000 It was John Kerry negotiating global warming treaties while he was Secretary of State under Barack Obama.
00:12:13.000 Tillerson embraces the notion that man is creating global warming.
00:12:17.000 He's actually even embraced a carbon tax.
00:12:18.000 Here's what he had to say about it recently.
00:12:20.000 Clearly there's going to be an impact.
00:12:22.000 So I'm not disputing that increasing CO2 emissions in the atmosphere is going to have an impact.
00:12:28.000 It'll have a warming impact.
00:12:30.000 How large it is, is what is very hard for anyone to predict.
00:12:34.000 And depending on how large it is, then projects how dire the consequences are.
00:12:41.000 He's come out in favor of a carbon tax as well, a cap and trade, which is the Al Gore program.
00:12:46.000 So all these people who are very excited about Scott Pruitt understand that the Secretary of State does not agree with Scott Pruitt on global warming.
00:12:52.000 Or, it's possible to read it as, he was saying what he had to say because he was head of ExxonMobil, but we don't know the answer to that right now.
00:12:58.000 So we'll leave that one on the table.
00:12:59.000 Okay, so normally,
00:13:01.000 If a major head of an oil company whose main foreign policy experience was being best friends with Vladimir Putin was nominated, you would think Republicans might oppose this.
00:13:09.000 Well, you'd be wrong.
00:13:10.000 Here's Paul Ryan's response.
00:13:12.000 Paul Ryan said,
00:13:17.000 Mitch McConnell also praised Rex Tillerson.
00:13:19.000 He said, I look forward to supporting his nomination.
00:13:21.000 So forget about, you know, actually having the hearings and determining what his views are.
00:13:24.000 He looks forward to supporting his nomination.
00:13:27.000 And it is fascinating to watch as people do this.
00:13:31.000 Now, I think the motivation here is that there are a lot of people in Congress, Republicans in Congress, who think that if they are really, really nice to Donald Trump, if they give him everything that he wants, he'll be nice to them.
00:13:42.000 I don't know what Paul Ryan is... I think Paul Ryan is actually delusional at this point about Trump.
00:13:46.000 I think he thinks, if I'm really nice to Donald Trump, if I give him all the things he wants, then Donald Trump will do entitlement reform.
00:13:54.000 Has Paul Ryan learned nothing?
00:13:55.000 Not going to happen.
00:13:56.000 Donald Trump is going to do what Donald Trump wants to do.
00:13:59.000 Newt Gingrich, who's just become the pseudo-intellectual shill for Trumpism, he did a lecture at Heritage Foundation today that was called The Principles of Trumpism, which is a new one.
00:14:08.000 I wasn't aware there were any principles of Trumpism other than what Donald Trump feels like this morning.
00:14:13.000 The first principle of Trumpism, according to Newt Gingrich, is
00:14:16.000 Praise Trump to the skies and then up your speaker's fee based on that.
00:14:19.000 But he gave a speech about principles of Trumpism and he called Trump a grizzly bear who basically, if you get his attention, is going to claw off your face.
00:14:25.000 He compared him to the grizzly bear from The Revenant.
00:14:28.000 I guess that we have yet to see whether there was some sort of rape that went on with Leonardo DiCaprio, a bear rape that went on with Leonardo DiCaprio, when DiCaprio visited Trump Tower.
00:14:38.000 The idea that you're gonna control Trump is just, this is such an illusion, and it's something that I think McConnell and Ryan are both engaging in.
00:14:44.000 This idea that if you're nice to him, he's going to give you what you want.
00:14:48.000 Not unless he already has a predilection toward you.
00:14:50.000 And this is the caveat, you know, he said earlier about Kanye West, Kanye's been nice to me, so I'll be nice to him.
00:14:56.000 Right, because he doesn't lose anything.
00:14:57.000 Putin is nice to him, so he's nice to Putin, right, because Donald Trump is the kind of guy who is attracted to power and thinks power is attractive, and so he likes the fact that Putin is strunk like bull.
00:15:08.000 So of course he's going to be okay with Vladimir Putin, but that doesn't mean he's going to start green-lighting entitlement reform, which he's opposed the entire way through.
00:15:14.000 He thinks entitlement reform is a political disaster.
00:15:17.000 He's not going to back Paul Ryan's play on that.
00:15:19.000 Republicans keep going along to get along,
00:15:21.000 That's going to have consequences because all you're doing is convincing people that Trump is right where he's wrong, and then he's just going to screw you anyway.
00:15:28.000 As Mitt Romney found out, Mitt Romney put out a statement, and he's not Secretary of State obviously, and Mitt Romney put out this little statement about not being Secretary of State.
00:15:37.000 Here's what it said, this is 11.
00:15:40.000 It says, quote, it was an honor to have been considered for Secretary of State of our great country.
00:15:44.000 My discussions with presidents like Trump have been both enjoyable and enlightening.
00:15:47.000 I have very high hopes that the new administration will lead the nation to greater strength, prosperity, and peace.
00:15:52.000 I also hope that this administration will do all of those things.
00:15:56.000 Also, this was shortly after King Joffrey Baratheon Trump I beheaded Ned Stark.
00:16:03.000 Listen, I said it at the time, right?
00:16:04.000 We actually played a clip from Game of Thrones of this happening.
00:16:06.000 Romney's head now decorates the gates at King's Landing.
00:16:11.000 So, too bad for him.
00:16:12.000 Meanwhile, Reince Priebus is making overtures toward Trumpism on this, and his defenses of Trump and Russia are not particularly good.
00:16:20.000 Here's what he had to say.
00:16:22.000 Well, what he said was that the sanctions were ineffective, but the reason they were ineffective was that they weren't being enforced.
00:16:29.000 And so his point was, unless you're going to enforce these sanctions, they're not effective.
00:16:34.000 And people are looking at the first part of that statement and not the second.
00:16:37.000 Look, I know where Rex Tillerson is on this.
00:16:39.000 He believes that sanctions and the threat of sanctions are an important part of international
00:16:45.000 Thank you.
00:16:54.000 Okay, so that's not true.
00:16:56.000 Tillerson has said he was against the Russian sanctions.
00:16:59.000 It wasn't about the enforceability.
00:17:00.000 We'll see if they remove sanctions from Russia.
00:17:02.000 That would be pretty amazing if they remove sanctions from Russia.
00:17:05.000 Meanwhile, Priebus continued by saying, it's not bad to have good relationships with Vladimir Putin.
00:17:10.000 This language is exactly the language that Barack Obama used about Cuba.
00:17:14.000 It's the same language that Barack Obama has used about Putin in the past.
00:17:17.000 How's it bad?
00:17:18.000 To have good relationships with your enemies.
00:17:19.000 You only make peace with your enemies.
00:17:21.000 Here is Reince Priebus, the show for the Trump administration.
00:17:25.000 But the truth is, is that having relationships with people is not a bad thing.
00:17:29.000 I don't know how we got to the place where having an actual functional relationship with someone who might not be a person that we first think of to have that relationship with is suddenly a bad thing.
00:17:41.000 I mean, we have a lot of problems in this world, and we're not going to solve those problems by making believe that people don't exist.
00:17:48.000 And so, America first.
00:17:50.000 That's what President-Elect Trump lives by every day.
00:17:53.000 That's what's in his head every day.
00:17:54.000 Americans first.
00:17:56.000 America first.
00:17:57.000 We're going to be tough across the world.
00:17:59.000 And President-Elect Trump and Rex Tillerson and Vice President-Elect Pence are going to take every day with that mindset in place.
00:18:07.000 Okay, so I love that he doesn't have any real defense for this, so instead he just starts shouting, America first, MAGA, MAGA, MAGA, AMERICA FIRST, NOT PAYING ATTENTION, NOT LISTENING, LA, LA, LA, LA, LA, MAGA!
00:18:16.000 Okay, yes, I understand MAGA.
00:18:18.000 Okay, this doesn't have anything to do with America First, the question is, how close are you supposed to be to one of the worst dictators on planet Earth?
00:18:23.000 Marco Rubio gets this right, here's Rubio's statement about Tillerson, he says, quote, while Rex Tillerson is a respected businessman, I have serious concerns about his nomination.
00:18:31.000 The next Secretary of State must be someone who views the world with moral clarity, is free of potential conflicts of interest, has a clear sense of America's interests, and will be a forceful advocate for America's foreign policy goals to the President within the administration and on the world stage.
00:18:43.000 I look forward to learning more about his records and his views.
00:18:46.000 I will do my part to ensure he receives a full and fair hearing, etc., etc.
00:18:49.000 That's basically the tactic that a lot of these people should be taking, but that is not the tactic that a lot of people are taking.
00:18:55.000 Everybody is just ignoring serious questions that ought to be asked about Russia and Vladimir Putin and what he's doing in favor of sort of partisan breakdowns.
00:19:03.000 And we'll get to more of that in just a bit.
00:19:04.000 Plus, Democrats overreacting because they can't help themselves.
00:19:07.000 It is amazing that just every landmine they have to jump on with both feet.
00:19:11.000 Every rake must be stepped on.
00:19:12.000 All of them.
00:19:13.000 Every rake in creation.
00:19:14.000 We'll get to all of that, but you have to subscribe at Daily Wire to see it.
00:19:18.000 You can listen, of course, later on iTunes or SoundCloud, but dailywire.com to subscribe.
00:19:21.000 Eight bucks a month.
00:19:22.000 We're good to go.
