The Ben Shapiro Show

Ep. 237 - Anti-Trump Racism Breaks Out All Over

Summary

On the eve of Trump's Inauguration, Hollywood and the media are doing exactly what they said they would not do on the day of the big day. They are lecturing the President and the Vice President, and they do it in a shrill and over the top manner that will ensure that Americans don t take them seriously. Here are just a few of the latest Hollywood idiot stories: The near-century-old members of Green Day have released a new song tearing into Donald Trump, Michael Moore is the same guy who said that Trump supporters are legal terrorists, but actual terrorists are minutemen. Joss Whedon, the guy behind the mediocre Avengers flicks, jokes about Paul Ryan being raped to death by a rhino Nicole Kidman had the temerity to say that the President ought to be given a baseline level of support, and then tweeted out that she was a, quote, " puppet for Trump." Broadway s Jennifer Holliday was forced out of the inauguration due to death threats, so is Andrea Bocelli, who is a mediocre negro by Mark Lamont Hill for meeting with Trump over inner-city community development. And then, Hollywood wonders why Americans don't take them serious on politics? and then they wonder why Americans just get sick when they see covers like that one from Variety posing with the flag. Yes, we live in troubled times! Yes, a new day dawning comes without warning, so don't think twice. 00:00:00.000 On Tuesday, Variety released its new cover.
00:00:03.000 Looks like this.
00:00:04.000 It's a picture of Hamilton's Brandon Victor Dixon.
00:00:06.000 Yes, the guy who lectured Mike Pence while Pence was enjoying a night out with the wife.
00:00:10.000 HBO's Lena Dunham, Michael Moore, Chelsea Handler, and CNN's Van Jones.
00:00:14.000 They're all holding a large American flag, looking upset and somber, as you can see.
00:00:18.000 Dunham wears a shirt that says, women are powerful and dangerous, as she seems to hide behind the aging large Moore.
00:00:24.000 Handler wears a shirt reading, let's get to work.
00:00:27.000 Now what?
00:00:28.000 On the eve of Trump's inauguration, Hollywood and the media raised their voices, says the headline.
00:00:32.000 Well, here's what.
00:00:33.000 Please keep doing this, Hollywood celebrities.
00:00:34.000 It will ensure that you continue to lose.
00:00:37.000 First off, we should never be lectured by the likes of Lena Dunham, a self-described sexual abuser of her own sister, or Michael Moore, the guy who does propaganda about the glories of Cuba's health care.
00:00:46.000 But more than that,
00:00:47.000 Hollywood seems completely oblivious to the fact that their shrill hysteria over Trump's election actually drives Americans into Trump's camp.
00:00:55.000 It's all obnoxious and overwrought.
00:00:56.000 Here are just a few of the latest Hollywood idiot stories.
00:00:59.000 First, the near-octogenarian members of Green Day have released a new song tearing into Donald Trump, cobbling together footage of KKK rallies with Trump talking.
00:01:07.000 Billy Joe Armstrong 44 warbles, a new day dawning comes without warning, so don't think twice, we live in troubled times.
00:01:15.000 Meanwhile, Joss Whedon, the guy behind the mediocre Avengers flicks, jokes about Paul Ryan being raped to death by a rhinoceros.
00:01:21.000 Nicole Kidman had the temerity to say that the president ought to be given a baseline level of support, and Whedon then tweeted out that she was a, quote, puppet for Trump.
00:01:29.000 Broadway's Jennifer Holliday, she was forced out of singing at the inauguration due to death threats.
00:01:33.000 Too bad she didn't lecture Mike Pence at a show or anything, then she'd be a hero.
00:01:36.000 Holliday wasn't the only one ousted from the inauguration over death threats.
00:01:39.000 So is Andrea Bocelli.
00:01:41.000 Steve Harvey, who's labeled a mediocre negro by Mark Lamont Hill for meeting with Trump over inner-city community development.
00:01:48.000 And then, Hollywood wonders why Americans don't take them seriously on politics?
00:01:52.000 Here's the truth.
00:01:53.000 At least half of Americans feel scorned by Hollywood.
00:01:56.000 And they should, because Hollywood scorns them.
00:01:58.000 When I researched my book, Primetime Propaganda, I spoke with the top creators in Hollywood history.
00:02:03.000 They thought I was a leftist, so they freely admitted to discriminating against conservatives in Hollywood, and picturing middle Americans as rubes and racists, and treating their shows as propaganda outlets for their viewpoints.
00:02:13.000 No wonder Americans just get sick when they see covers like the one from Variety.
00:02:17.000 Michael Moore posing with the flag.
00:02:18.000 Is it the same guy who said that Trump supporters are legal terrorists, but actual terrorists are Minutemen?
00:02:23.000 That makes most Americans queasy.
00:02:24.000 Treating Lena Dunham like a moral voice, despite her ardent love for abortion and her overt bragging about masturbating next to her 11-year-old sister in bed,
00:02:32.000 Yeah, that sort of nauseates Americans, too.
00:02:34.000 Acting as though Chelsea Handler, a woman who said she should be applauded for her two abortions, as a beacon of light?
00:02:39.000 That's pretty disgusting.
00:02:40.000 So, Hollywood, keep it coming.
00:02:42.000 Nothing drives Americans away from leftism quite like the specter of uber-rich, uber-famous, uber-immoral leftists treating them as dreck to be scraped from their shoes.
00:02:50.000 It worked so well for Hillary Clinton, she's creeping around the woods of Chappaqua as Donald Trump becomes the 45th president of the United States.
00:02:57.000 I'm Ben Shapiro.
00:02:58.000 This is The Ben Shapiro Show.
00:03:03.000 Yes, we have tons to get to as always today.
00:03:05.000 Very exciting show planned for you with a lot of deconstructing of culture coming up near the end, a lot of race talk, lots of stuff going on.
00:03:12.000 But first, we have to say thank you to one of our great sponsors, Birch Gold.
00:03:16.000 So, if you're interested in investing in precious metals, then Birch Gold is the way to do it.
00:03:21.000 Birch Gold Group has a long-standing track record of continued success.
00:03:24.000 They have lots of five-star reviews.
00:03:25.000 They have an A-plus rating from the Better Business Bureau, and they have a free information kit on how you can invest in physical precious metals, so it's not just
00:03:33.000 You know, them sending you, like, a stock.
00:03:35.000 It's actual physical precious metals.
00:03:37.000 And they have a 16-page comprehensive kit that tells you how to do this, how to protect your savings, how you can move your money out of your IRA or 401k into precious metals without tax consequences.
00:03:46.000 They are the experts at this.
00:03:48.000 Birchgold.com is how to get in touch.
00:03:49.000 Birchgold.com slash Ben.
00:03:52.000 And if you're concerned about the future of the economy, and who wouldn't be considering how volatile the economy is and will continue to be, you need to have at least part of your portfolio in precious metals.
00:04:01.000 Birchgold can help you do that.
00:04:02.000 Ask all your questions at birchgold.com slash ben, birchgold.com slash ben, and then they're the people I would trust to invest in precious metals.
00:04:10.000 Okay, so lots going on.
00:04:12.000 We begin today.
00:04:14.000 With the continued racial fallout over Donald Trump's inauguration.
00:04:18.000 So, the left has to turn everything into a racial issue.
00:04:22.000 It's just imperative for them to do so.
00:04:24.000 And so, they continue to trot forward John Lewis, the congressman from Georgia and the civil rights hero, to claim that Donald Trump is not really legit.
00:04:33.000 It turns out, and by the way, that John Lewis actually, this is the second inauguration he's boycotting, he also boycotted George W. Bush's inauguration.
00:04:41.000 Is it possible that John Lewis is doing this not because he thinks that Trump is illegitimate, but because he's a leftist and Trump is apparently not?
00:04:49.000 Yeah, that's probable.
00:04:50.000 Here's John Lewis explaining not why he's boycotting Trump, but why he loves Obama.
00:04:59.000 No one, no one since Martin Luther King Jr.
00:05:02.000 had inspired me the way that Barack Obama inspired me.
00:05:07.000 Okay, so if you think that, then is it any wonder that you want to dump Trump on the side of the road?
00:05:12.000 Is that any shock?
00:05:13.000 And you can see that there is a racial component to a lot of the people who hate Trump.
00:05:18.000 And it's not just because Trump is white or anything, but the attempt by the left is to polarize Americans along racial lines.
00:05:24.000 Like, Hillary was white too.
00:05:25.000 Presumably they wouldn't have boycotted her inauguration, but there is an attempt to boycott
00:05:29.000 Trump because they're trying to draw racial lines.
00:05:31.000 They're trying to say, a lot of members of the left black community, they're trying to say that the only legitimate black people are the people who will stand up against Trump and who will not offer him any sort of support or even the possibility of support in the future.
00:05:44.000 Maxine Waters, who is a nutcase congresswoman from out here in California, she's the one who dubbed the LA riots the LA uprising.
00:05:51.000 She's wildly incompetent.
00:05:53.000 She is extraordinarily radical on racial matters.
00:05:55.000 She says that Trump should be impeached preemptively.
00:05:58.000 Well, here's what I'm trying to get to.
00:06:00.000 If we discover that Donald Trump or his advocates played a role in helping to devise strategy, if they're the ones who came up with crooked Hillary, if they're the ones who came up with she's ill, something's wrong with her energy, and the way that he basically, you know, described her in the campaign, I think that is something that would
00:06:25.000 Put the question squarely on the table whether or not he should be impeached.
00:06:29.000 Okay, so she's talking about impeachment, and she's not the only one.
00:06:31.000 A lot of Democrats are very upset.
00:06:33.000 A lot of them are getting ready for trouble.
00:06:34.000 Al Sharpton, who is one of the world's great race baiters, a man who was involved in the incitement of riots against Orthodox Jews in Crown Heights in 1991, was involved in incitement of riots against something called Freddy's Fashion Mart that ended with the death of several people in an arson.
00:06:47.000 Al Sharpton is still seen by the left as some sort of racial conciliator, even though he has spent his entire career smearing people falsely.
00:06:55.000 With race charges.
00:06:56.000 And now Sharpton is using his platform, whatever is left of it, to rip on Trump and suggest that he is not a legitimate president either.
00:07:04.000 I think that there's no question that the process that elected him was not legitimate.
00:07:09.000 When you look at the now evidence from the intelligence agencies that there was the influence from the Russians and involved in the public discourse at the time of the election, when you look at those that were expunged from being able to vote, clearly the process has serious questions about it.
00:07:33.000 Okay, so you got Al Sharpton doing this routine.
00:07:36.000 Now, there are some black folks who have met with Trump and have come away saying some relatively nice things about Trump.
00:07:41.000 So Steve Harvey met with Trump.
00:07:43.000 Trump is doing a smart thing.
00:07:44.000 He's inviting a lot of high-profile black folks to the Trump Tower to try and reach out and make overtures and suggest that he's going to make life better for black Americans, not just
00:07:52.000 Well, I'll tell you, when you win against all odds, and you defeat those who are against you, and I was for Hillary, so I'm one of those who Mr. Trump defeated.
00:08:20.000 But he is the president-elect of the United States.
00:08:24.000 I'm a citizen.
00:08:25.000 I'm not asking him to do everything.
00:08:27.000 I'm going to pitch in and do some of the things that I can do with the like-minded people that I represent.
00:08:34.000 And he's in, you know, so there's his perspective.
00:08:37.000 Stephen A. Smith has said something similar, says just because you're giving Donald Trump a chance doesn't mean that you're doing anything racially wrong.
00:08:43.000 When noted comedian and host of the hit show Family Feud, Steve Harvey, exited from a meeting with President-elect Donald Trump last week calling him, quote, a great man, end quote, to say there was a backlash would be a gross understatement.
00:08:56.000 The word cool and sellout was immediately thrown out.
00:08:59.000 His friend and contemporary DL Hughley wasn't happy either, aiming his vitriol at Trump instead of Steve Harvey.
00:09:06.000 And of course, it provided the perfect excuse for naysayers to accuse sports greats like Jim Brown and Ray Lewis of being used as photo ops weeks ago.
00:09:14.000 But on a day like today, when we celebrate the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., along with his undeniable historical impact, perhaps it's time for all of us to see the big picture.
00:09:24.000 To essentially pay more attention to the issues permeating our society, what it'll take to resolve them, and connecting ourselves to who we ultimately can hold accountable, rather than focusing on disdain for that very individual in a position to make a difference, knowing that's not about to get us anywhere.
00:09:40.000 So there are a lot of people who hate Stephen A. Smith.
00:09:42.000 Stephen A. Smith actually will speak truth on racial matters far more often than a lot of his compatriots on ESPN.
00:09:49.000 So there's a small cadre of high-profile black figures who have met with Trump, and this is driving the left.
00:09:57.000 Baddie, just as driving them up a wall.
00:09:58.000 Marc Lamont Hill, he's a frequent guest on Fox News, on CNN all the time.
00:10:03.000 He's also a professor at Morehouse College, and he was in a debate about Steve Harvey visiting Trump Tower with a member of the sort of Trump team, the person he's talking to here.
00:10:14.000 is a fellow named Bruce Lavelle, I guess, and he's the National Diversity Coalition for Trump director.
00:10:20.000 Bruce Lavelle, that's the black guy who you will see second from the left there.
00:10:23.000 I think that's Jemma Greene, and I can't remember the name of the anchor here.
00:10:27.000 In any case, the only two who matter for this particular conversation are the two on the right-hand side of your screen, and that would be Marc Lamont Hill and Bruce Lavelle.
00:10:37.000 And here is them going at it over the fact that Steve Harvey met with Trump.
00:10:41.000 It was a bunch of mediocre negroes being dragged in front of TV as a photo op for Donald Trump's exploitative campaign against black people, and you are- Mark.
00:10:51.000 How are you gonna- So now you want a name call, Mark.
00:10:53.000 Simone, you better jump in if you want to talk.
00:10:56.000 Now you want a name call?
00:10:57.000 Now you want a name-
00:10:59.000 Okay, so he calls them—if you missed it, because it was pretty quick there—he calls them mediocre Negroes.
00:11:04.000 That's what Marc Lamont Hill says there.
00:11:06.000 So here's how this conversation actually went.
00:11:07.000 What happened is that Hill talked about people like Steve Harvey and Jim Brown.
00:11:11.000 He said, to keep bringing comedians and actors and athletes to represent black interests is demeaning, it's disrespectful, it's condescending.
00:11:17.000 Bring some people up there with some expertise, Donald Trump.
00:11:19.000 Don't just bring up people to entertain.
00:11:21.000 And so Bruce Lavelle said, well, you don't even know what they talked about.
00:11:24.000 And Hill said, well, unless Steve Harvey turned into a policy analyst in the behind-the-scenes meeting, it doesn't matter whether I was there.
00:11:31.000 My concern is the people he's trumpeting up and putting in front of the cameras.
00:11:34.000 And then, after Lavelle said that that was silly, Hill explodes.
00:11:39.000 It's a bunch of mediocre Negroes being dragged in front of TV
00:11:43.000 As a photo op for Donald Trump's exploitative campaign against black people, and you are a prime example of that.
00:11:48.000 So Bruce Lavelle is a prime example of a mediocre negro being dragged in front of TV as a photo op for Donald Trump's exploitative campaign against black people.
00:11:57.000 So a few points to be made on this.
00:11:59.000 Number one.
00:12:01.000 People on the left do not get to complain about Donald Trump meeting with celebrities on political matters.
00:12:06.000 They don't, okay?
00:12:07.000 Hillary's entire campaign was built around celebrities.
00:12:09.000 We showed you that picture from Variety.
00:12:11.000 We can bring that up again.
00:12:12.000 Half the people on this cover were openly campaigning for Hillary Clinton, right?
00:12:16.000 Lena Dunham was openly campaigning for Hillary Clinton.
00:12:18.000 Chelsea Handler was openly campaigning for Hillary Clinton.
00:12:21.000 Michael Moore was a Hillary Clinton fan, even though he was more of a Bernie Sanders guy.
00:12:24.000 The fellow Dixon over here, I believe he campaigned for Hillary Clinton.
00:12:29.000 No problem there for the left.
00:12:30.000 That's totally fine, right?
00:12:31.000 Celebrities campaigning for Democrats, that's totally fine.
00:12:34.000 And, you know, you have Lamont Hill saying that it's just terrible that Trump would meet with all of these black celebrities to push his particular agenda for inner cities.
00:12:43.000 Leonardo DiCaprio was invited to the White House by Barack Obama to discuss global warming just back in October.
00:12:48.000 Angelina Jolie came to the White House and talked with Obama about Sarajevo.
00:12:53.000 Angelina Jolie.
00:12:54.000 Like the Tomb Raider person, right?
00:12:56.000 Brad Pitt, at the same time that she was meeting with President Obama, Brad Pitt was talking with Vice President Biden about New Orleans rebuilding.
00:13:07.000 Brad Pitt.
00:13:08.000 About New Orleans.
00:13:10.000 Because, I guess one time he'd been to New Orleans?
00:13:13.000 No one really understands.
00:13:15.000 During the 2008, Obama actually sought advice on the Middle East from George Clooney.
00:13:18.000 Yes, George Clooney, the guy from Syriana.
00:13:21.000 And Tomorrowland.
00:13:23.000 Right?
00:13:23.000 And Marc Lamont Hill obviously had no problem with Meryl Streep ripping on Trump.
00:13:27.000 It's also worth noting, by the way, Martin Luther King, during the March on Washington,
00:13:31.000 He reached out to tons of celebrities.
00:13:33.000 Joseph Mankiewicz, and Charlton Heston, and James Baldwin, and Paul Newman, and Jackie Robinson, and Joan Baez, and Bob Dylan, and Sammy Davis Jr., and Harry Belafonte, and Ruby Dee, and Burt Lancaster.
00:13:42.000 If you look at the pictures, it was all celebrities.
00:13:43.000 Tons of celebrities.
00:13:45.000 There were some in Selma.
00:13:46.000 Many in the march on Washington.
00:13:48.000 And the left was fine with that.
00:13:49.000 So let's not pretend that suddenly they've erected this barrier between celebrity and politics.
00:13:53.000 That's absolute nonsense.
00:13:55.000 The reason Lamont Hill is really pissed is because, for the left, the left is, the entire kind of moral superiority, unearned moral superiority of the left is based on the unsupportable, unsubstantiated belief that they are the sole representatives of minority interests in America.
00:14:11.000 That they stand up for these discreet and insular minorities against the evil American system.
00:14:16.000 And so when there are black people who say, well, you don't stand for me, then they've got a problem because it sort of undermines their own identity.
00:14:24.000 Well, if they can't represent all black people, then what exactly are they representing?
00:14:29.000 What do they stand for?
00:14:30.000 What if a lot of black people say, well, we don't need your help.
00:14:33.000 We're fine.
00:14:34.000 America's a good place.
00:14:36.000 We hope that Trump does well.
00:14:37.000 Well then they get very very upset and they get to call people mediocre negroes.
00:14:41.000 It's funny, Mark Lamont Hill once said that black people are incapable of racism because they don't have the institutional power in order to be responsible for racism.
00:14:50.000 Well, Mark Lamont Hill certainly has the institutional power to be racist against Steve Harvey.
00:14:54.000 Race is not politics.
00:14:56.000 Race is not politics.
00:14:57.000 Just because you're white doesn't mean that you vote because you're white according to white interests.
00:15:01.000 Just because you're black doesn't mean that you vote because you're black according to black interests.
00:15:05.000 Sometimes people say, well, if you're Jewish, you're expected to be pro-Israel.
00:15:08.000 Right, because Judaism's an actual religion.
00:15:10.000 Your ethnicity is not important to me.
00:15:13.000 Your actual religious practice is.
00:15:15.000 The same thing is not true of your color.
00:15:17.000 Your color, your birthplace, none of that matters when it comes to politics, but the left has to insist that all of that matters when it comes to politics, and so they have to cast out all traitors from the hall, and that means that, obviously, people like Jim Brown and Steve Harvey, they have to be thrown aside because Marc Lamont Hill thinks they're mediocre Negroes.
00:15:33.000 Never mind that Steve Harvey, by the way, has an audience of four million people on his radio show every day, and is worth about a hundred million dollars.
00:15:39.000 He's a mediocre Negro.
00:15:40.000 He's a mediocre negro, as opposed to Marc Lamont Hill, who snipes at him on CNN.
00:15:45.000 Really quite disgusting.
00:15:47.000 And racially charged.
00:15:49.000 We'll get to more of that in just a second, but first, we have to direct your attention to another podcast that you should subscribe to right now on iTunes or Stitcher or Wondery.com, wherever you listen to podcasts, and that podcast is called Terms.
00:16:01.000 Okay, so, this is a drama podcast.
00:16:04.000 That's what it is.
00:16:06.000 It's a podcast that's fictional, and it's really entertaining.
00:16:09.000 I've listened to it.
00:16:10.000 Really exciting, really entertaining.
00:16:11.000 It's a political podcast, sort of a political thriller,
00:16:14.000 Really well-produced and interesting to listen to.
00:16:16.000 The basic premise is this.
00:16:17.000 We voted in, America votes in a really controversial president, and the two-term exiting president decides that he wants to do something to stop this guy from taking office.
00:16:26.000 And what ensues from there is a really fascinating constitutional crisis, the sort of manipulation that goes on behind the scenes.
00:16:32.000 As somebody who loves politics and as somebody who also loves political fiction, Terms is a great piece of work and you should definitely take a listen.

00:17:02.000 The Republicans react to all of this, all of this sort of race baiting, in the way that you would imagine they would react.
00:17:09.000 Sean Spicer of the RNC comes out and says, look, John Lewis started all of this.
00:17:13.000 The left is very upset that Trump is attacking John Lewis.
00:17:16.000 John Lewis is the one who dropped the bomb here, it wasn't Trump.
00:17:19.000 Let's talk about the latest battle we've just been reporting on between the President-elect and Congressman John Lewis.
00:17:26.000 The President-elect attacking John Lewis' district, his service to this country.
00:17:30.000 We're looking at four days to the run-up of the inauguration.
00:17:34.000 Was this the proper way to handle this?
00:17:37.000 Well, I think, Tamron, I want to just take it back a step, Tamron, because I think, you know, Congressman Lewis started this with your own Chuck Todd by saying that the election was illegitimate and that President-elect Trump was an illegitimate president.
00:17:50.000 So, let's see where it started, which is you have this icon of voting and civil rights claiming that an election was illegitimate when there is zero evidence of that.
00:18:00.000 Everybody has confirmed
00:18:02.000 That the election was duly held, there was no tampering with anything, and to see somebody of John Lewis's stature, an iconic nature who has worked so hard to enfranchise people and talk about getting people involved in our voting systems and talking about the integrity of our voting system, to then go out when the candidate of his choice doesn't win and try to talk about the de-litimization of the election is frankly disappointing.
00:18:26.000 Okay, and Sean Spicer is exactly right.
00:18:28.000 Now, in a second, we're going to have to break here on Facebook and YouTube, but in a second we're going to talk about why Sean Spicer and Trump actually gets it right, why Trump is popular with Republicans, and why Marco Rubio actually gets it wrong on John Lewis and Trump, which is something that is, you know, not...
00:18:42.000 Something I usually say.
00:18:43.000 Usually, in a fight between Trump and Rubio, I'm going to be on Rubio's side.
00:18:45.000 On this one, I think that Rubio is incorrect.
00:18:47.000 We'll talk about all of that over at dailywire.com.
