The Ben Shapiro Show

Ep. 296 - Hillary’s Back!

Summary

On Saturday night, Samantha Bee hosted the much-ballyhooed Not the White House Correspondents' Dinner. The dinner was retitled, of course, because President Trump wasn't enough of a rube to subject himself to three hours of barbs and putdowns by leftist journalists who didn't vote for him and see him as a joke and disdain his voters. At the dinner, Bee rotted out in a white pantsuit, looking like Kristen Chenoweth playing Hillary Clinton in an alternative reality version of the 2016 election. Shortly after this, she reappeared on CNN with Jake Tapper. She explained of her nearly unwatchable mess of a show, full frontal. "I do the show for me and for people like me, and I don t care how the rest of the world sees it, frankly. We birth it, and then the world receives it however they want to receive it." During the entirety of this statement, a smug grin was plastered across her face. Here is a basic rule of thumb: in order to be smug, you generally have to be unaware of your smugness. So do the members of the self-pleasuring press. They re smug in their self-assurance that they know what the American People want better than the American people do. And that s what drives Trump s support. I'm Ben Shapiro, and that's why this guy just won't go away. The FBI Director is back on the Hill again, now answering questions about the election cycle. The 2016 election cycle will never end, so if you loved it, congratulations it s 2017, it's 2017, the revenge! We'll get to all of that in just a second! Ben Shapiro - The Ben Shapiro Show - Ben Shapiro is a writer, comedian, podcaster, and podcaster. And he's a friend of mine, and he also happens to be a good friend of the late great John McCain and he's on The Daily Beast, too so you can go to his website and listen to him on his podcast, too, if you're interested in what he's up to on the good ol' times and what he s up to these days, and what s going on in his life, and how he's doing on the road, and so on, and more, and much more. Ben's new book is out now, The Good Life: What's He's Gotta Have It? is out!

00:00:00.000 On Saturday night, Samantha Bee hosted the much-ballyhooed Not the White House Correspondents' Dinner.
00:00:04.000 The dinner was retitled, of course, because President Trump wasn't enough of a rube to subject himself to three hours of barbs and put-downs by leftists who didn't vote for him and see him as a joke and disdain his voters.
00:00:15.000 At the dinner, Beach rotted out in a white pantsuit looking like Kristen Chenoweth playing Hillary Clinton in an alternative reality version of the 2016 election.
00:00:22.000 Your job has never been harder, she gushed to the assembled members of the self-pleasuring press.
00:00:26.000 You expose injustice against the weak.
00:00:28.000 You continue to fact-check the president as if he might someday get embarrassed.
00:00:31.000 Tonight is for you.
00:00:33.000 Shortly after this, odes of the bravery of journalists who maintained total silence for eight years of President Barack Obama's lies on Iran and healthcare, his Department of Justice targeting the Associated Press and Fox News, reappeared on CNN with Jake Tapper.
00:00:44.000 There, she explained of her nearly unwatchable mess of a show, full frontal, quote, I do the show for me and for people like me, and I don't care how the rest of the world sees it, frankly.
00:00:52.000 We birth it, and then the world receives it however they want to receive it.
00:00:56.000 During the entirety of this statement, a smug grin was plastered across her face.
00:00:59.000 Here is a basic rule of thumb.
00:01:01.000 In order to be smug, you generally have to be unaware of your smugness.
00:01:04.000 B fits the bill.
00:01:05.000 So do the members of the White House Press Corps.
00:01:06.000 There's plenty of questions.
00:01:08.000 There are plenty of questions about President Trump's administration, from his shifting promises to his knee-jerk reversals, from his policy vagaries to his staffing chaos.
00:01:15.000 But instead of approaching the American people as potential friends to be convinced, smug leftists treat them as ignoramuses.
00:01:21.000 There's no sincerity involved.
00:01:22.000 Every critique of Trump supporters lumps them all together and then treats them as gum stuck to the bottom of the shoe of the Republic.
00:01:28.000 Samantha Bee and Company have the unmistakable air of the bullies from every high school and college comedy.
00:01:32.000 Preening self-obsessed rich kids who sneer at the losers who inhabit the hallways and plan pool parties and taunt the poor kids who can't afford anything better than a beat-up pinto.
00:01:40.000 The journalist Hollywood clique is like Greg Marmalard from Animal House, Rod from Breaking Away, Regina George from Mean Girls.
00:01:45.000 They're smug.
00:01:46.000 They're liberal.
00:01:47.000 And that's what drives Trump's support.
00:01:49.000 Trump knows this.
00:01:49.000 That's why he skipped the Correspondents' Dinner and instead went to Pennsylvania, where he held a rally hilariously declaring, quote,
00:02:05.000 Trump may not be popular among the cool kids, but he's cool enough among them to win supporters in the swing states.
00:02:09.000 If the cool kids don't cut it out, they'll get eight years to mock him and be smug in their self-assurance that they know what the American people want better than the American people do.
00:02:17.000 I'm Ben Shapiro.
00:02:18.000 This is The Ben Shapiro Show.
00:02:23.000 Alrighty, so James Comey is on the Hill again.
00:02:25.000 This guy just won't go away.
00:02:27.000 The FBI Director is back on the Hill now answering questions about the election cycle.
00:02:30.000 Hillary Clinton is back too.
00:02:32.000 The 2016 election cycle will never end, so if you loved it, congratulations.

00:03:45.000 They send it back on tape.
00:03:46.000 They put a barcode on every piece of material that you send to them so you can track where it is in the process.
00:03:53.000 Just a great company.
00:03:54.000 Legacybox.com
00:03:56.000 Okay, so the big news today is that James Comey is on the Hill.
00:04:02.000 Now, as the precursor to this, I think we have to talk about Hillary Clinton's reappearance on the public scene.
00:04:06.000 So Hillary is back, and this is a great thing for Republicans, because particularly it's great for Trump.
00:04:11.000 I'm not sure it's so great for Republicans as much as it's great for Trump.
00:04:14.000 The reason I say it's great for Trump is because the less Trump does in office, the more important it is to talk about how terrible Hillary Clinton is, because
00:04:22.000 Again, you need to show, you need to throw Trump in relief.
00:04:24.000 If your basis for Trump doing a good job is he's not Hillary, then Hillary needs to be ever-present in our mind.
00:04:30.000 We need to constantly remember how terrible Hillary is, and then we think, oh God, at least it's not Hillary Clinton.
00:04:35.000 Trump must be doing a fantastic job.
00:04:36.000 So, that's why Hillary being part of the public scene is really, really good for Trump.
00:04:40.000 So Hillary came back yesterday and she was doing a media appearance with Christiane Amanpour, who is just unwatchable and unlistenable.
00:04:47.000 And in this media appearance, she said that she takes full responsibility and then proceeds to blame everybody up to and including James Comey, the head of the FBI.
00:04:57.000 Did we make mistakes?
00:04:59.000 Of course we did.
00:05:01.000 Did I make mistakes?
00:05:02.000 Oh my gosh, yes.
00:05:03.000 You know, you'll read my confession and my request for absolution.
00:05:09.000 But the reason why I believe we lost were the intervening events in the last 10 days.
00:05:16.000 Okay, so basically I take full responsibility, except I take none of the responsibility.
00:05:20.000 None of it was my fault.
00:05:21.000 Now, was it her fault?
00:05:23.000 Yes, the whole thing is her fault.
00:05:25.000 The entire email controversy is her fault.
00:05:27.000 If she weren't a paranoid nutso, she wouldn't have stuck all of this classified information on an email server that was private and not under government auspices and might have been hacked, and she certainly would not have allowed Huma Abedin to apparently send classified information to her husband's computer
00:05:43.000 Huma Abedin, of course, was her assistant, and she was sending emails to the computer of Anthony Weiner.
00:05:50.000 Huma Abedin's husband, Anthony Weiner, of course, is an alleged child pornographer, or at least looking at child pornography, or young teenagers.
00:05:58.000 He's a really sick guy who has a bunch of problems, does Anthony Weiner, and his computer was apparently filled with classified material and messages from Hillary Clinton, including emails that Hillary Clinton had deleted.
00:06:07.000 Before turning them over to the appropriate intelligence authority so as you recall on October 28th Just a few days before the election 11 days before the election James Comey sends an email sends a letter to the members of Congress updating them On the status of the investigation if you recall all the way back to July in July He says we've done a full investigation of Hillary's email server and while she's a criminal She is not a criminal and we should not prosecute her that was basically Comey's announcement back in July now comes to 11 days before the election and James Comey sends a letter to Congress telling them
00:06:37.000 We haven't reopened the email investigation per se, but we have new information in the email investigation, and Anthony Weiner's computer is filled, chock full to the top, with a bunch of Hillary Clinton emails.
00:06:48.000 We haven't had time to go through it yet.
00:06:50.000 Now, this was pretty controversial, because just a few days later, he comes out and he says, we went through all of it, nothing there of importance.
00:06:56.000 So, Democrats, I think, not wrongly, are very miffed by this.
00:07:00.000 They say, okay, why are you updating Congress if you haven't even checked it out, you don't know if it's real yet, and then five days, six days, seven days later,
00:07:07.000 You come out and you say, Oh, oops, by the way, I'm glad I updated you eight days ago, but it turns out that none of it actually mattered.
00:07:13.000 So back to my original statement, nothing bad happened here.
00:07:16.000 If you were a Democrat, you'd be mad too.
00:07:18.000 If you're a Republican, obviously you're happy because of course it had an impact on Trump getting elected.
00:07:22.000 It's still Hillary's fault.
00:07:23.000 She shouldn't have engaged in all sorts of nefarious activity here.
00:07:26.000 She should have been more careful with classified information.
00:07:28.000 She shouldn't have planned to have a server and then put classified material on it, which is a purposeful
00:07:33.000 Exposure of America to foreign intelligence services.
00:07:36.000 She should never have done any of those things.
00:07:38.000 So it's Hillary's fault.
00:07:39.000 But did Comey's letter have an impact?
00:07:41.000 I think it would be hard to argue Comey's letter didn't have an impact.
00:07:43.000 You see the polls.
00:07:44.000 She dropped from outside the margin of error to inside the margin of error in the last few days of the election cycle.
00:07:49.000 Hard to tell how much of that would have happened normally, but
00:07:52.000 It's hard to imagine that the biggest story in America didn't have any impact on her electability.
00:07:56.000 In any case, James Comey is testifying before Congress, and Dianne Feinstein, Senator from California, she of the lifely size, she decides that she's going to ask him about why he sent that famous October 28th letter, and here's James Comey's answer.
00:08:10.000 The investigative team that had finished the investigation in July, focused on Secretary Clinton's emails, asked to meet with me.
00:08:17.000 So I met with them that morning, late morning in my conference room, and they laid out for me what they could see from the metadata on this fella Anthony Weiner's laptop that had been seized in an unrelated case.
00:08:29.000 What they could see from the metadata was that there were thousands of Secretary Clinton's emails on that device, including what they thought might be the missing emails from her first three months as Secretary of State.
00:08:42.000 We never found any emails from her first three months.
00:08:45.000 She was using a Verizon BlackBerry then, and that's obviously very important, because if there was evidence that she was acting with bad intent, that's where it would be in the first three months.
00:08:53.000 But they weren't there.
00:08:54.000 Look, can I just finish my answer, Senator?
00:08:56.000 And so they came in and said, we can see thousands of emails from the Clinton email domain, including many, many, many from the Verizon Clinton domain, BlackBerry domain.
00:09:06.000 They said, we think we gotta get a search warrant to go get these.
00:09:09.000 And the Department of Justice agreed we had to go get a search warrant.
00:09:12.000 So I agreed.
00:09:13.000 I authorized them to seek a search warrant.
00:09:15.000 And then I faced a choice.
00:09:16.000 And I've lived my entire career by the tradition that if you can possibly avoid it, you avoid any action in the run-up to an election that might have an impact, whether it's a dog-catcher election or President of the United States.
00:09:27.000 But I sat there that morning, and I could not see a door labeled No Action Here.
00:09:32.000 I could see two doors, and they were both actions.
00:09:35.000 One was labeled Speak, the other was labeled Conceal.
00:09:37.000 Because here's how I thought about it.
00:09:39.000 I'm not trying to talk you into this, but I want you to know my thinking.
00:09:42.000 Having repeatedly told this Congress, we are done and there's nothing there, there's no case there, there's no case there.
00:09:49.000 To restart in a hugely significant way, potentially finding the emails that would reflect on her intent from the beginning, and not speak about it would require an act of concealment, in my view.
00:10:01.000 And so I stared at speak and conceal.
00:10:02.000 Speak would be really bad.
00:10:04.000 There's an election in 11 days.
00:10:06.000 Lordy, that would be really bad.
00:10:08.000 Concealing, in my view, would be catastrophic.
00:10:11.000 Not just to the FBI, but well beyond.
00:10:13.000 And honestly, as between really bad and catastrophic, I said to my team, we've got to walk into the world of really bad.
00:10:20.000 I've got to tell Congress that we're restarting this.
00:10:23.000 Not in some frivolous way, in a hugely significant way.
00:10:26.000 And the team also told me, we cannot finish this work before the election.
00:10:30.000 And then they worked night after night after night, and they found thousands of new emails.
00:10:35.000 They found classified information on Anthony Weiner.
00:10:38.000 Somehow, her emails are being forwarded to Anthony Weiner, including classified information by her assistant, Huma Abedin.
00:10:46.000 And so they found thousands of new emails and then called me the Saturday night before the election and said, thanks to the wizardry of our technology, we've only had to personally read 6,000.
00:10:56.000 We think we can finish tomorrow morning, Sunday.
00:10:59.000 And so I met with them.
00:11:00.000 And they said, we found a lot of new stuff.
00:11:03.000 We did not find anything that changes our view of her intent.
00:11:07.000 So we're in the same place we were in July.
00:11:10.000 It hasn't changed our view.
00:11:11.000 And I asked them lots of questions and I said, OK, if that's where you are, then I also have to tell Congress that we're done.
00:11:17.000 Look, this is terrible.
00:11:18.000 It makes me mildly nauseous to think that we might have had some impact on the election.
00:11:22.000 But honestly, it wouldn't change the decision.
00:11:25.000 Everybody who disagrees with me has to come back to October 28th with me and stare at this and tell me what you would do.
00:11:31.000 Would you speak or would you conceal?
00:11:33.000 So we can stop it here.
00:11:35.000 I'm about to say something deeply unpopular.
00:11:37.000 James Comey is totally, utterly, completely full of crap.
00:11:40.000 Okay, he's totally full of crap.
00:11:42.000 I know there are people on the right saying this is super convincing, this is his logic, this is why he did it.
00:11:46.000 He's an honest man.
00:11:47.000 Okay, James Comey is totally full of crap.
00:11:49.000 He was full of crap in July, he was full of crap in October, and he's full of crap now.
00:11:52.000 I'll explain why.
00:11:53.000 Okay, beginning in July, he was full of crap because he never should have announced all the reasons to indict Hillary Clinton, and then made up his own legal standard, and he did.
00:12:01.000 You talked about it at the time.
00:12:02.000 He literally made up his own legal standard.
00:12:04.000 There is no standard of intent in the law with regard to concealment and hiding and redirection of classified material.
00:12:11.000 There is no intent requirement.
00:12:13.000 He made up that standard out of whole cloth to exonerate Hillary Clinton.
00:12:17.000 And Donald Trump, I mean this is so bizarre now because this is the world we live in, Trump tweeted that yesterday.
00:12:21.000 He tweeted yesterday that James Comey gave Hillary a free pass.
00:12:25.000 Okay, well, you reappointed him to head of the FBI, dude.
00:12:27.000 Like, you said you weren't going to fire him, so that's kind of weird.
00:12:29.000 But, in July, he was totally full of crap.
00:12:31.000 Then, because he set this wrong legal standard, he then goes forward to October.
00:12:35.000 And now it turns out that there's all sorts of new material.
00:12:38.000 So, he has two choices.
00:12:39.000 He can shut the hell up until all the information is available to him, until he completes the investigation without regard for politics, or he can announce it to make up for his boo-boo, right?
00:12:48.000 It's a make-up call.
00:12:48.000 July was a boo-boo, and now he's got a make-up call in October.
00:12:51.000 Here's the make-up call.
00:12:52.000 Republicans have a field day.
00:12:54.000 And he sends out this letter.
00:12:55.000 And he openly said this at the time.
00:12:56.000 Like, this new logic that he's saying, where he's saying, well, you know, I really felt the obligation to say something because it was either speak or conceal, and I didn't want to politicize this thing.
00:13:04.000 He says that he, at one point in this testimony, he actually says,
00:13:08.000 That somebody in his office said, you know, you're going to get Trump elected if you do this.
00:13:12.000 And he said, well, I can't think about things like that.
00:13:14.000 Well, clearly he was thinking about things like that back in July.
00:13:16.000 And he was thinking like that about things like that in October, because literally five seconds later, he says in that same testimony, he says, we expedited the review.
00:13:24.000 Well, if you weren't worried about the politics of the situation, why are you expediting the review?
00:13:29.000 Right?
00:13:29.000 If all you're worried about is the truth coming out in good time, then number one, why are you announcing preliminary findings before you've even done the research?
00:13:35.000 And two, why aren't you waiting until all the research is done?
00:13:38.000 And three, why are you expediting the research so that it gets done before the election cycle?
00:13:41.000 And four, why are you sending this letter that you sent to the FBI the same day that you sent the letter to Congress?
00:13:46.000 Quote, of course we don't ordinarily tell Congress about ongoing investigations, but here I feel an obligation to do so, given that I testified repeatedly in recent months that our investigation was completed.
00:13:56.000 I also think it would be misleading to the American people were we not to supplement the record.
00:13:59.000 At the same time, however, given we don't know the significance of this newly discovered collection of emails, I don't want to create a misleading impression.
00:14:06.000 In trying to strike that balance in a brief letter and in the middle of an election season, there is significant risk of being misunderstood, but I wanted you to hear directly from me about it.
00:14:13.000 Yes, there is politics here, but the only politics that mattered to James Comey was not the politics of Trump versus Clinton.
00:14:18.000 The only politics that mattered to James Comey was preserving his patina of legitimacy at the FBI and creating this perception that the FBI was above politics, when in fact, by doing all of this, he embroiled the FBI in more and more and more politics.
00:14:32.000 That's what actually happened here.
00:14:34.000 Okay, that's what actually happened here with James Comey.
00:14:36.000 James Comey hedged his bets so he could keep his job.
00:14:39.000 He started in July exonerating Hillary where she should not have been exonerated.
00:14:43.000 Then, to hedge his bets in October, he brought forward this information and then he killed his own information like eight days later after this whole thing went down.
00:14:52.000 And that's the honest take on James Comey.
00:14:53.000 And what you're going to hear today from the partisans on both sides, the left is going to say, James Comey is totally evil and wanted Trump to win.
00:14:59.000 And on the right you're going to hear, James Comey is wonderful, he's a saint, of course he had to reveal this information.
00:15:04.000 Here is the basic truth.
00:15:05.000 It's Hillary's fault she lost, it's James Comey's fault that we all know about any of this stuff in the first place, because James Comey did not do the first thing FBI directors are told to do, shut your mouth until you have all the information.
00:15:18.000 And here is the reality of the situation.
00:15:20.000 Would I prefer that the information came out and Hillary did not get elected?
00:15:24.000 Of course.
00:15:25.000 Of course.
00:15:26.000 Is James Comey simultaneously full of crap?
00:15:29.000 Absolutely, James Comey is simultaneously full of crap.
00:15:32.000 Okay, now I want to say thank you to our advertisers over at Tracker, and then I want to talk a little bit more about Hillary's grand return.
00:15:40.000 Tracker.com.
00:15:41.000 TheTracker.com.
00:15:42.000 T-A-R... T-R-A, rather.
00:15:45.000 T-R-A-C-K-R.com.
00:15:47.000 No E. TheTracker.com.
00:15:50.000 Use promo code Ben, and here's what the tracker does.
00:15:51.000 If you lose your stuff, if you lose your phone, if you lose your keys, if you lose your wallet, you stick this coin-sized device on your phone, on your keys, on your wallet, and it allows you to find those things.
00:16:01.000 You use your cell phone to locate your keys,
00:16:03.000 It rings basically from your cell phone to your keys and to your wallet and that ensures that you never lose these things again.
00:16:10.000 If you want not to lose your phone then you can actually use your keys as a reverse tracking device.
00:16:15.000 You take the device and then you can actually reverse it back to your phone and it'll ring through.
00:16:18.000 So how often do you lose your phone and your phone is on silent and you can't find it?
00:16:22.000 The tracker allows you to actually override the no ring device.
00:16:26.000 It allows you to override this.
00:16:28.000 It's been a godsend for me.
00:16:29.000 I'm constantly a guy running out the door and looking for wallet phone keys and losing one of them.
00:16:34.000 And this makes it possible.
00:16:35.000 The Tracker makes it possible for that not to happen for me.
00:16:38.000 I don't have to spend 15 minutes looking for my stuff anymore.
00:16:40.000 TheTracker.com.
00:16:42.000 And use promo code Ben to get a free Tracker Bravo with any purchase.
00:16:45.000 So you never have to worry about losing that stuff ever again.
00:16:49.000 We're good to go.
00:17:10.000 But she really can't accept the fact that she's the one who screwed things up, right?
00:17:12.000 She can't deal with the fact that she's the one who blew it.
00:17:16.000 And so, she is still not taking responsibility.
00:17:18.000 Instead, she's claiming that it's because of Americans being sexists or some such nonsense.
00:17:25.000 Do you think?
00:17:29.000 Were you a victim of misogyny?
00:17:30.000 And why do you think you lost the majority of the white female vote?
00:17:35.000 The security moms, the people who want to be protected from the kinds of challenges you're talking about right now.
00:17:43.000 The book's coming out in the fall.
00:17:47.000 Just to give you a tiny little preview, yes, I do think it played a role.
00:17:52.000 I think other things did as well.
00:17:53.000 Every day that goes by, we learn more about some of the unprecedented interference, including from a foreign power whose leader is not a member of my fan club.
00:18:06.000 And so I think it is
00:18:13.000 Okay, so it's obviously because we don't like women.
00:18:18.000 Now, this ignores the fact, I do love this, this is one of my favorite things of the election cycle.
00:18:22.000 Somebody actually took the Clinton-Trump debate and they reversed the sexist.
00:18:26.000 They had a woman read Trump's comments and then a man read Hillary's comments, and it turns out people liked Hillary even less when she was a man.
00:18:33.000 So...
00:18:35.000 So the idea that people just didn't vote for her because she's a woman is, of course, crap.
00:18:38.000 But she now declares herself part of the resistance.
00:18:41.000 She's going to help stop Donald Trump.
00:18:44.000 I spent decades learning about what it would take to move our country forward, including people who, you know, clearly didn't vote for me.
00:18:53.000 To try to make sure that we dealt with a lot of these hard issues that are right around the corner, like robotics and artificial intelligence, and things that are really going to be upending
00:19:05.000 uh... the economy for the vast majority of americans to say nothing of the rest of the world so uh... you know i'm i'm now back to being an activist citizen and uh... part of the resistance
00:19:18.000 And everyone's like, yeah!
00:19:20.000 Okay, the worst thing that could happen to the resistance is Hillary Clinton be a part of it.
00:19:23.000 I mean, she does have the resistance of a particularly viral strain, virulent strain of syphilis.
00:19:31.000 But aside from that, there's nothing going on that would remotely suggest that she's going to help out the resistance in any way.
00:19:38.000 She's trying to hijack a youth movement that she's just incapable of hijacking.
00:19:41.000 And even people on her left are saying that she's totally full of it.
00:19:44.000 But to talk about that,
00:19:45.000 We're going to have to go over to dailywire.com, and you're going to have to become a subscriber.
