00:01:03.000 Remember Anthony Fauci, the head of President Trump's COVID efforts and then Joe Biden's COVID efforts under the National Institutes of Health?
00:01:09.000 Well, on Friday, Senator Rand Paul published Anthony Fauci's personal diary, which is like 1,100 pages of entries running from late 2019. through Fauci's retirement in December 2022.
00:01:19.000 It's a journal scrapbook that has hundreds of articles about himself inserted into it.
00:01:24.000 641 entries are labeled press that are largely about himself.
00:01:28.000 What exactly did he preserve in his diary?
00:01:29.000 Well, among other things, Tom Elliott notes on Substack, he kept the Washington Post column comparing a Rand Paul cross-examination of him to watching Albert Einstein being disputed by his dry cleaner because Fauci is like Albert Einstein, according to Anthony Fauci.
00:01:44.000 He kept a Joan Baez portrait and her calling him an American hero.
00:01:47.000 He kept cookies from Joe and Jill Biden with the note, you are our hero.
00:01:51.000 And Julia Roberts gasping on an Instagram live stream that he was her personal hero, and Marion Wright Edelman calling him a true national treasure, and Beth Cameron of the NSC texting that he was her hero for what he did with Rand Paul.
00:02:03.000 That's the kind of person that Anthony Fauci is and was.
00:02:06.000 And again, a lot of the public indicators were there.
00:02:09.000 I mean, remember this from 2021 when Anthony Fauci suggested that attacks on him were identical to attacks on science, they were the same thing.

00:02:20.000 The lot of what you're seeing.
00:02:22.000 As attacks on me, quite frankly, are attacks on science.
00:02:27.000 Because all of the things that I have spoken about consistently from the very beginning have been fundamentally based on science.
00:02:35.000 Sometimes those things were inconvenient truths for people, and there was pushback against me.
00:02:42.000 So if you are trying to get at me as a public health official and a scientist, you're really attacking not only Dr. Anthony Fauci, you're attacking science.

00:02:56.000 The science, just like the emperor was the Senate.
00:02:59.000 I am the Senate.
00:03:00.000 That was who Anthony Fauci was.
00:03:02.000 And you recall, don't you, Anthony Fauci basically using every opportunity to get in front of a camera.

00:03:09.000 You remember that you couldn't go to the ballpark during the pandemic for no reason, by the way, because it turns out that COVID did not travel in the open air, right?

00:03:22.000 Entire baseball season played without human beings in the stands.
00:03:27.000 Except for Anthony Fauci, who personally went to a Washington Nationals game and they piped in a fake applause.
00:03:32.000 And then he showed up wearing a mask, which he then took off during the game to talk to his friends in the stands.

00:03:39.000 But he threw out the first pitch.
00:03:40.000 It was one of the worst first pitches in baseball history.

00:04:09.000 So, from Fauci's diary, March 21st, 2020, he says, Big front page article about me appeared in the Washington Post.

00:04:18.000 The situation with my national and international fame is explosive and really unimaginable.
00:04:22.000 It is not hyperbole to say that today I am the most famous and talked about person in the country and one of the most recognizable person, Peason, he says, in the world.

00:04:32.000 I cannot even read all the things that are written about me since I am so busy.

00:04:35.000 Hoda seems to be enamored of me, even though I am taking the spotlight away from him.

00:04:46.000 Everyone is worried about my health and welfare, probably because it is all over the place that I am almost 80 years old.

00:04:58.000 Again, as thousands of people are dying, Governor Andrew Cuomo called me asking how I was.

00:05:03.000 The far right was trying to discredit me.
00:05:05.000 He strongly suggested that I resign.
00:05:07.000 He does not seem to appreciate the difference between resigning from TF and resigning from NIAID.
00:05:14.000 He said, I will lose credibility if I stay, and my legacy needs to be preserved.
00:05:17.000 He said, if I quit, he will make sure I'm hired as an Uber consultant and could do very, very well in the private sector.

00:05:24.000 And then, of course, fast forward to September, and he saved a snippet from Jimmy Kimmel, who had written this homage to him in Time magazine, because that is who Anthony Fauci is and was.
00:05:36.000 Now, the media were working with Fauci to prop him up.
00:05:40.000 So he points out that in January 8th, 2021, This, of course, is during that interim period between President Trump losing the 2020 election and Joe Biden taking office.
00:05:52.000 And he writes about his relationship with Jeff Zenz.
00:05:55.000 Sorry, no, Jeff Zenz was Joe Biden's chief of staff.
00:05:59.000 And he writes in his diary at 8 p.m. tonight, as I was over at Robin Ellen's open garage dining room, Jeff Zenz called me again asking for a favor.
00:06:06.000 A Politico reporter is already getting ready to write a story spreading rumors that Biden is upset with his COVID team.
00:06:10.000 And Jeff is asking a favor for me to go on background and tell the reporter they are doing a very good job.
00:06:14.000 I told Jeff I would, of course, be very happy to do this.
00:06:17.000 This would be the Biden administration coordinating with the media very, very early on.
00:06:23.000 And of course, as it turns out, it turns out that Fauci knew pretty much all along that the origins of COVID were, in fact, not related to a wet market.
00:06:34.000 Now, again, COVID was almost certainly a leak from the Wuhan laboratory.
00:06:40.000 Everyone knows this.
00:06:41.000 And this was speculated early on by Tom Cotton of Arkansas.
00:06:44.000 And everybody on the left, including in the legacy media, of course, jumped all over Cotton and suggested that it was a conspiracy theory.
00:06:50.000 To speculate as to whether the virus had come not from some weird guy eating a bat, but actually had come from, you know, the lab that did infectious disease studies on coronaviruses.
00:07:04.000 Well, Jim Garrity writes in National Review As late as 2023, writers and publications like The Atlantic were arguing that infected animals at the Hunan seafood wholesale market were the most likely source of the pandemic.
00:07:17.000 But as early as January 26th, 2020, Okay, this is like before anyone even knew that this was going to turn into a global pandemic.
00:07:25.000 Anthony Fauci was writing in his diary that it almost certainly did not come from the market.
00:07:31.000 Quote, we know the market was not the source, it was the amplifier.
00:07:35.000 Having said that, somewhere the virus jumped from animals to humans.
00:07:38.000 So that is in January of 2020.
00:07:41.000 He is saying the first cases were not from the market.
00:07:43.000 He said it might get spread at the market, but that's not where it started.
00:07:48.000 June 4th, 2021.
00:07:51.000 He says, I received an extremely strange and unexpected briefing by the CIA related to the origin of the virus.
00:07:55.000 Beth Cameron from NSC was listening in on one of the other screens.
00:07:59.000 As it turns out, she was as baffled as I was by the briefing.
00:08:01.000 It was very similar to some of the very disappointing briefings I had previously received in prior years from the CIA.
00:08:06.000 A young woman whose name was Camille Hartman gave most of the briefing.
00:08:09.000 She was accompanied by what was probably the senior male CIA person and another young woman.
00:08:13.000 Camille, in my mind, was almost pathetic in her naivety for an obvious lack of appreciation of any of the science of what she was talking about.
00:08:19.000 She gave instances of things she said were gotten by CIA intercepts of conversations in China, particularly in Wuhan.
00:08:25.000 Her major point was she feels That the Chinese have not been transparent about what was going on in their labs since there were no reports publicly of what they found out from intercepts.
00:08:34.000 So again, he was writing that the CIA was naive about all of this.
00:08:43.000 And then there is the aspect of what Fauci was writing about in his diary, talking about the shutdowns and the spread and his attempts to subvert alternative strategy to cope with COVID.
00:08:55.000 February 2020 says Tom Frieden called me this AM and we discussed various aspects of the outbreak.
00:09:00.000 He and I are on the same page in thinking this is acting like a bad influenza in its transmissibility, and the denominator is much greater than.
00:09:06.000 Than 35,000, making the case fatality rate more like 0.2 to 0.3% rather than 2.0%.
00:09:12.000 So we knew early on that actually COVID was spreading incredibly quickly and that the death rate from COVID, which was the big question, right?
00:09:18.000 The big question all along from COVID was what was the transmission rate and what was the death rate from the virus?
00:09:23.000 They knew early on it was much, much, much lower than the public was being led to believe.
00:09:28.000 In March of 2020, he brags that he convinced everybody to shut down the country.
00:09:33.000 He spoke with Bill de Blasio and said that he should close all the bars and restaurants in New York City.
00:09:39.000 And that he spoke with California, and that Newsom had decided to close the schools and the bars and the restaurants.
00:09:44.000 And then he says, When I left the White House and crossed Pennsylvania and 17th Street, several cars honked their horns and shouted, Thank you, out the window.
00:09:50.000 Wow, what a hero.
00:09:53.000 Okay, but as it turns out, he then went out publicly and lied to Batya Ungar Sargon, among others.
00:09:59.000 He told her, this is July of 2022, that he did not recommend locking anything down.
00:10:03.000 His diary explicitly says he did recommend locking things down.
00:10:08.000 I wonder if you would recommend locking down schools if you had to do it all over again.
00:10:14.000 Well, you know, again, it's first of all, I didn't recommend locking anything down.
00:10:18.000 You're asking me questions.
00:10:19.000 You're talking about the CDC, the public health agency that uses their epidemiologists and their science based approach to make recommendations.

00:10:31.000 So again, Fauci was the bad guy, not because bad guys know they're being bad, but because they think they're lying for a higher purpose.
00:10:39.000 Fauci was lying because he thought that he was, quote unquote, doing the right and just happened to align with his personal interests, his interest in being on the cover of InStyle magazine.
00:10:46.000 Which is a thing that actually happened.
00:10:47.000 An 80 year old doctor ended up on the cover of In Style magazine.
00:10:52.000 That's who Anthony Fauci was.
00:10:54.000 And it just goes to show you the foibles of human nature, truly.
00:10:56.000 I've said a thousand times on the show you try to attribute things to stupidity rather than malice.
00:11:01.000 It turns out that those two things can cross streams, Ghostbusters style, and you end up with Anthony Fauci with outsized influence over policy.
00:11:08.000 It is one of the reasons our founders were a big fan of federalism and checks and balances in the federal government.
00:11:12.000 So, whenever anyone tells you that what we actually need is a government that moves faster, And it hits harder and does things more quickly.
00:11:18.000 I remind you, the government is staffed by lots and lots of people, just like Anthony Fauci, because it turns out in life, there are lots and lots of people like Anthony Fauci.

00:13:50.000 NBC's Steve Cornacki points out that while Democrats seem to be embracing socialism, the American public is not.
00:13:58.000 The Democrats, a majority of Democrats, are favorable towards socialism, but when it comes to independence, independents hate it.

00:14:24.000 So is that a vulnerability for Democrats that would keep them from capitalizing on Trump's obvious weaknesses here?

00:14:33.000 If Republicans don't play soft socialists, if the Republicans reject this stuff wholesale, I mean, it is incredible that the Democratic Party, because, again, they have no systemic immunity to the socialist appeal, because they agree with the basic idea that socialism is beautiful in theory and that the socialist radicals are actually just too passionate.

00:14:54.000 And so they continue to grant credibility to people who wear horn rimmed red glasses and spew socialist nonsense.

00:15:23.000 Replace the presidency and Supreme Court as we now know them.

00:16:00.000 Now, let's be clear this is stuff that the Democratic Party does not have the ability to reject.

00:16:09.000 And it turns out that when you ingest Bernie Sanders, you're going to get an awful lot of ideological diarrhea.

00:16:19.000 If Bernie Sanders were 20 years younger, there's no doubt that Bernie Sanders would be the front runner for the nomination for the Democratic Party at this point.

00:16:26.000 And Bernie Sanders is utterly unapologetic about his support for people like Graham Plattner.
00:16:31.000 He's again, if you are far enough to the left, then every terrible thing you do is seen as an indicator of your commitment to the cause.
00:16:38.000 Bernie Sanders is on Face the Nation on CBS, and he said he does not regret any of his support for Graham Plattner.
00:16:44.000 Remember the Maine guy with the Nazi tattoo who was a little rapey?
00:16:48.000 You were an early supporter in Maine of Graham Plattner.

00:16:52.000 Do you regret not acting earlier to call for him to drop out?

00:20:01.000 Here he is saying that Obama was kind of Bernie, just better at it.

00:20:10.000 I think his entire theory of the case is deeply populist.
00:20:14.000 He told the story of the country belonging to everyone and that being at the heart of things.
00:20:22.000 And particularly his reelection campaign, I don't think gets talked about enough for just quite how populist the approach was.
00:20:28.000 Mitt Romney was a Wall Street villain who had shipped our jobs away, who wanted more money for himself and his Wall Street friends, while Obama was a president who took them on, who brought the economy back, who stared down those same villains.
00:20:44.000 I think that's an example where populism allows for a big tent, and the people who critique it are just upset because it's against their own interests.
00:20:55.000 And again, as Morris Katz points out, the next wave of that is the Mamdani third worldism.
00:21:02.000 The idea that it's Obama's we and it's Bernie's them.
00:21:06.000 It's this Obama esque coalition that's inclusive and that we're all a part of and we're stronger when we're all in it together.

00:21:21.000 Now, where Ezra Klein is uncomfortable is that it turns out that people like Morris Katz totally oppose.

00:21:29.000 So, Ezra is the author of a book talking about how the Democratic Party should embrace, for example, deregulation and solutions driven policymaking.
00:21:36.000 But these people are not running on solutions.
00:21:39.000 They are running on overthrowing the system, on a complete radical meltdown of the system.
00:21:44.000 And they have the momentum because whoever argues for ripping down the system always has an inherent advantage over the person who argues that you ought to fix up the building.
00:21:53.000 The tremendous drive in American politics, bizarrely enough, is to always tear down the system.
00:21:59.000 The people who pose as the radicals have an inherent advantage.
00:22:02.000 Running as an outsider has always been a useful political tool.
00:22:08.000 Pretty much every president has done it.
00:22:10.000 Bill Clinton ran as an outsider to the Democratic Party, saying we need to move away from the traditional liberalism and toward third way centrism.
00:22:16.000 George W. Bush ran in 2000 saying that we needed to move away from the harsh Gingrich sized Republicanism and toward a more compassionate conservatism.
00:22:26.000 Barack Obama ran in 2008 on a more Left wing version of what the Democratic Party was against the establishment Hillary Clinton wing of the Democratic Party.
00:22:37.000 Donald Trump obviously ran from outside the party and threw brickbats through the window of the party.
00:22:43.000 So that is the way that you gain power.
00:22:45.000 And the DSA knows this.
00:22:46.000 And so the Democrats are having their milkshake drunk by the DSA.
