Joe Biden Gives The Most Dangerous Presidential Speech In Modern History | Ep. 1567

Summary

Joe Biden delivers the most divisive, demagogic speech in modern American history, demonizing half the country as opposed to democracy, liberty, and decency, while insisting he was only there to restore unity. Ben Shapiro dissects the takeaway image from Joe Biden's January 6th speech, and why it's the worst image of a president I've ever seen in my entire life, and how it was created by an online team of people who spend all day on social media and spend all night on the internet, and then try to sell it to the American public as a picture of a man who is standing in front of the Declaration of Independence, holding up a sign that says, "I'm here in defense of democracy, and now I'm going to yell at you about how everyone who opposes me is an enemy of democracy." Ben Shapiro explains what's going on with Joe Biden and his team, and what they're doing with the image they created of Joe Biden, and the message they're trying to send to the public with it. The answer is simple: it's a V for V for Vendetta, and it's not even close to what you need to be worried about. The Ben Shapiro Show is sponsored by ExpressVPN. 00:00:00.000 Joe Biden delivers the most divisive demagogic speech in modern American history, demonizing half the country as opposed to democracy, liberty, and decency, while insisting he was only there to restore unity.
00:00:10.000 I'm Ben Shapiro.
00:00:10.000 This is The Ben Shapiro Show.

00:00:23.000 I, honest to God, never thought I would see something like this from Joe Biden, from really any American president.
00:00:29.000 Last night, the President of the United States gave the most demagogic, dangerous speech I've ever heard from an American president, truly.
00:00:36.000 And a lot of people out there right now on the left side of the aisle screaming about Donald Trump in his January 6th speech.
00:00:41.000 I really hated Donald Trump's January 6th speech.
00:00:44.000 But what Donald Trump did not do in that speech is declare that half the country was the enemy.
00:00:48.000 He did not declare that half the country was fundamentally opposed to the basis of the country.
00:00:53.000 He attacked, I thought wrongly, the quote-unquote political elite who had skewed the election or whatever.
00:00:57.000 But what he didn't do was label half the country people who were just political opponents, his actual enemies.
00:01:03.000 He didn't actually do that on January 6th.
00:01:05.000 And when he talked about the press as the enemies of the people and all of this, the press went nuts.
00:01:10.000 And I said, he shouldn't have done that.
00:01:11.000 But that was a talk about the press.
00:01:13.000 That wasn't everybody who opposes my agenda deserves the back of the American hand.
00:01:20.000 The president and all of this in the name of democracy and equality, it was insane.
00:01:25.000 I want to begin with the image of the speech.
00:01:28.000 This is going to be the takeaway image.
00:01:29.000 Most people are not going to see the speech.
00:01:30.000 Most people are not going to listen to the speech.
00:01:31.000 There's going to be one takeaway image from the speech.
00:01:34.000 Presidential politics is all about image.
00:01:35.000 It's all about imagistics.
00:01:36.000 Whether you're talking about President Trump getting out of a helicopter and taking off his mask in the middle of COVID, or whether you're talking about Barack Obama standing on a giant stage flanked by the Greek Parthenon recreated in 2008.
00:01:51.000 When you look at this image, the image that you're seeing right now of Joe Biden, This is the single worst piece of presidential image making I have ever seen in my entire life.
00:02:01.000 It is not close.
00:02:02.000 This is an astonishingly bad image for the president of the United States, especially when he's declaring, I'm here in defense of democracy, and now I'm going to yell at you about how everyone who opposes me is an enemy of democracy.
00:02:16.000 Let's count the ways in which this is a horrible piece.
00:02:18.000 I mean, first of all, let's compare it to some other images just so you see how bad a piece of imagery this is.
00:02:22.000 It's insane.
00:02:24.000 How about General Lux from Star Wars The Force Awakens?
00:02:30.000 It's the same image.
00:02:31.000 We're talking about the blood red background.
00:02:33.000 We're talking about the dark outfit, the blood red background, and the people in the background are apparatchiks of the state.
00:02:40.000 We are talking here about Man in the High Castle, when John Smith is first introduced in the Vauxhall in New York.
00:02:48.000 I mean, like, it's this sort of imagery.
00:02:51.000 The people who constructed this image, that was not photoshopped, that picture of Joe Biden.
00:02:54.000 That was a not photoshopped image.
00:02:56.000 I mean, scar from Lion King.
00:02:57.000 It's insane.
00:02:58.000 What are they doing?
00:03:00.000 What are they doing?
00:03:01.000 The answer, by the way, I mean, it's V for Vendetta.
00:03:03.000 It is all the dictators that you have ever seen in film or on screen basically rolled into one and then wrapped into an image.
00:03:12.000 What is his team doing?
00:03:13.000 What is his team doing?
00:03:14.000 Well, I think the answer is they're a very online team.
00:03:17.000 The people who work for him, they spend all day on Twitter.
00:03:20.000 And so over the past few weeks, there's been this idea that Dark Brandon is rising.
00:03:24.000 Dark Brandon, of course, is that meme that originally started in China of Joe Biden sitting on a throne made of guns with his lit up eyes backlit by flames.
00:03:38.000 He's evil.
00:03:39.000 I think that his team was like, you know what?
00:03:40.000 That was such a cool image, man.
00:03:42.000 Let's just recreate that in real life.
00:03:42.000 It went viral online.
00:03:43.000 And so you end up with this.
00:03:45.000 You end up with the actual picture of Joe Biden.
00:03:47.000 Let's go back to the original.
00:03:50.000 You end up with the actual picture of Joe Biden in this picture.
00:03:52.000 Now let me describe for people who are just listening what is in this picture.
00:03:56.000 Joe Biden is standing at the podium.
00:03:58.000 I believe this is from Getty Images.
00:03:58.000 He's in upshot.
00:04:00.000 He is screaming at the top of his lungs.
00:04:04.000 He's gripping his fists up in the air.
00:04:07.000 Behind him is Independence Hall, the site of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States.
00:04:13.000 Blood red!
00:04:15.000 Blood red!
00:04:16.000 And behind him are two American Marines who are in shadow, except for their white-gloved hands.
00:04:26.000 And behind him, there's a pale light that looks like, because of the way this is lit, it looks like the throne room of the emperor from Return of the Jedi.
00:04:35.000 It's the worst piece of presidential image making ever.
00:04:38.000 Truly ever.
00:04:38.000 I mean, imagine the sort of thought that had to go into this.
00:04:43.000 And they're sitting around a room and they're like, what can we do to make the president really look cool?
00:04:47.000 Well, what if we take a historic American site?
00:04:49.000 You know, the site that really is known for liberty and for democracy and legality.
00:04:55.000 And what if we light it blood red?
00:04:56.000 Blood red.
00:04:57.000 And we put the president in front of the blood red site.
00:05:00.000 So it'll be red and black, like the fascist color pattern.
00:05:03.000 Let's do that.
00:05:04.000 And then what if we actually front light him so he looks angry and demonic against that backdrop?
00:05:13.000 And then, what if we put a couple of marines behind him to look like military force is what is backing him?
00:05:19.000 This is a taxpayer-sponsored event, by the way.
00:05:21.000 You paid for this.
00:05:23.000 So Joe Biden gave a speech and the speech was designed to attack all of his political opponents and treat them as enemies of the state.
00:05:29.000 That's what this speech was designed to do.
00:05:32.000 I think, in a very cynical way, because Joe Biden basically gave you two messages.
00:05:36.000 One, everyone who opposes me is an enemy of the state.
00:05:37.000 And two, violence is wrong.
00:05:39.000 The basic idea here is to raise the temperature.
00:05:41.000 I think this is more likely to result in acts of violence that Joe Biden is then going to use as a case to run in 2022 and 2024.
00:05:51.000 I mean, this is extraordinarily dark stuff.
00:05:53.000 We haven't even gotten to the content of the speech.
00:05:55.000 Just the imagery alone is extraordinary.
00:05:59.000 Really dark, really creepy, really fascistic.
00:06:02.000 And man, did he, I mean, there's a reason that satanic, demonic, and pure evil were all trending on Twitter last night because man, oh man, the imagery associated with the speech.
00:06:14.000 And you know what?
00:06:15.000 It fits well within the rhetoric of the speech too.
00:06:17.000 Because what Joe Biden said last night is, as I say, the most dangerous thing I have seen an American president say about half the country ever, ever in my life.
00:06:28.000 And I'm sure there are times maybe, maybe before that in American history, but I was born in 1984.
00:06:33.000 So I can only tell you what I have seen since 1984.
00:06:36.000 The president of the United States going out there and saying that the half of the country that disagrees with, he has a 38% approval rating, half the country, more than half that disagrees with him, that these are people who are associated with pure evil.
00:06:51.000 He speaks about his fellow Americans the way that George W. Bush spoke about Al Qaeda.
00:06:55.000 So, let's actually go through the speech now.
00:06:57.000 We're going to go through it in real detail.
00:07:00.000 I want him to speak in his own words.
00:07:03.000 So, this thing opens.
00:07:03.000 It's amazing.
00:07:04.000 Remember, it's a taxpayer-sponsored event, which means he's using all of the power of the office.
00:07:09.000 This geriatric dotard.
00:07:13.000 He's using all the power of the office, including taxpayer dollars, and all the imagery of traditional American republicanism, small-r republicanism, in order to prop up a demagogic piece of fascistic speechmaking.
00:07:25.000 So, here he was at the very beginning, and Jill is walking him out to the podium, because he now needs to be walked from place to place as our president.
00:07:32.000 And here's what it sounded and looked like.
00:07:33.000 So there he is.
00:07:40.000 I mean, he can barely walk.
00:07:41.000 She's leading him out there.
00:07:44.000 If this doesn't feel like the death of the Republic to you, whatever would.
00:07:47.000 He's in front of Independence Hall.
00:07:49.000 He can barely raise his hand to wave.
00:07:53.000 Okay, and then she ushers him to the podium, and he moves her off, and then he begins to speak.
00:07:59.000 So, he starts off by welcoming his fellow Americans.
00:08:03.000 And by his fellow Americans, he means everyone who agrees with him.
00:08:05.000 This was a pure campaign speech, but it is laced through with the kind of seething hatred for his fellow Americans that I have not seen.
00:08:14.000 Truly, it's despicable.
00:08:17.000 Here's the President of the United States, Captain Unity over here.
00:08:21.000 My fellow Americans, I speak to you tonight from sacred ground in America.
00:08:28.000 Independence Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
00:08:31.000 This is where America made its declaration of independence to the world more than two centuries ago, with an idea unique among nations.
00:08:43.000 That in America, we're all created equal.
00:08:51.000 First of all, you can hear that he's clearing his throat.
00:08:54.000 He's not particularly healthy.
00:08:55.000 But as you can see, this was angry Biden.
00:08:57.000 There are two versions of Biden that are now present.
00:09:00.000 There's really three versions of Biden that are present in American public life.
00:09:03.000 There is doddering fool Biden, can't get a sentence out, can barely speak, is wobbling around, his aides are worried he's going to trip over a wire, falling off bikes and all the rest.
00:09:12.000 And that's one version of Biden.
00:09:13.000 Then you have fake empathy Biden, where he goes into his low voice.
00:09:17.000 He really cares.
00:09:20.000 That's the stuff where, in completely inappropriate context, he cites the tragic death of his son in order to try and garner empathy for himself while supposedly trying to sympathize with others, right?
00:09:29.000 That's version number two of Biden.
00:09:31.000 And then there's angry, yelly Biden.
00:09:32.000 What we got last night was angry, yelly Biden.
00:09:36.000 So he continues with what he says are the real message of America.
00:09:40.000 What is the soul?
00:09:41.000 He said he was going to speak about the soul of the nation in front of a blood-red background in satanic lighting.
00:09:46.000 Here he was talking about the soul of the nation.
00:09:48.000 What is America really all about?
00:09:50.000 We, the people.
00:09:52.000 We, the people.
00:09:55.000 These two documents and the ideas they embody, equality and democracy, are the rock upon which this nation is built.
00:10:06.000 Okay, so the very basis of his speech, that equality and democracy are the key values of the United States, they are some of the key values of the United States, but he's actually using the wrong language.
00:10:15.000 Because when he says equality, what he means is equity.
00:10:18.000 He's made this very, very clear throughout his presidency.
00:10:20.000 Equity means equality of outcome.
00:10:22.000 It does not mean you have equal rights under the Constitution.
00:10:24.000 That is not what he cares about.
00:10:26.000 He cares about equality of outcome.
00:10:27.000 And if you oppose that, you're against equality.
00:10:30.000 And when he says democracy, as it turns out, he does not mean The kind of republicanism, small-r republicanism, that is discussed in the Constitution of the United States.
00:10:37.000 The truth is, if you look at the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States, the key messages, truly, are liberty and republicanism, not equality and democracy.
00:10:47.000 Equality and democracy are hallmarks of the French Revolution.
00:10:50.000 Because in the French Revolution, the whole idea was that it was égalité, liberté, fraternité.
00:10:56.000 It was mob rule.
00:10:56.000 And it was pure democracy.
00:10:58.000 The Founders very much feared the idea of mob rule culminating in a powerful centralized figure who was able to do whatever he wanted without any of the checks and boundaries of the Constitution of the United States.
00:11:07.000 That's what they feared.
00:11:08.000 And that's what Joe Biden represents.
00:11:10.000 So understand, when he says equality and democracy, you're hearing equality of rights and Democratic-Republican rule under the checks and balances of the Constitution.
00:11:18.000 That's not what he means.
00:11:20.000 What he means by equality and democracy is something very different.
00:11:22.000 He means equity and mob rule.
00:11:25.000 Those are the things that he's actually standing for.
00:11:26.000 But again, what he's doing is he's hijacking, this whole speech was about hijacking traditional American images and turning them on their head, right?
00:11:33.000 Independence Hall is now blood red.
00:11:35.000 Equality and democracy, if you are in favor of a limited government and equality of rights, and you're interested in a checks and balances system that hems in the power of a centralized bureaucratic state, This means, according to Joe Biden, you are against the founding ideals of the country.
00:11:53.000 So he starts off with all the pretty words, right?
00:11:55.000 Barack Obama used to do the same thing.
00:11:58.000 This is not the part of the speech that is perfectly unusual.
00:12:02.000 Barack Obama also used to sort of hijack traditional American terminology and then turn it on its head, hollow it out.
00:12:07.000 A lot of Democratic politicians do this.
00:12:09.000 Some Republican politicians do this, too.
00:12:10.000 The part of the speech that starts to get bad comes very early.
00:12:13.000 He starts suggesting that everyone who is his opponent is the same, and they're all bad, and they're extremist threats to democracy.
00:12:21.000 Here we go.
00:12:22.000 As I stand here tonight, equality and democracy are under assault.
00:12:29.000 We do ourselves no favor to pretend otherwise.
00:12:33.000 So tonight, I've come to this place where it all began.
00:12:38.000 to speak as plainly as I can to the nation about the threats we face.
00:12:44.000 Okay, so what exactly are the threats that we face?
00:12:48.000 Well, first he talks about the soul of America.
00:12:50.000 And there's something particularly galling about this person who does not appear to be, he's a career corrupt politician declaring that he speaks, he declaims on behalf of the American soul.
00:13:02.000 So he's here on a religious level to lecture you while lit like Satan.
00:13:06.000 Weird, here we go.
00:13:08.000 That sacred flame still burns.
00:13:12.000 Now in our time, as we build an America that is more prosperous, free and just.
00:13:20.000 you That is the work of my presidency, a mission I believe in with my whole soul.
00:13:30.000 But first, we must be honest with each other and with ourselves.
00:13:37.000 So he's going to lay it on the line for you now.
00:13:38.000 Here's where he gets to the good part.
00:13:40.000 So he is going to launch into an attack on half Americans.
00:13:45.000 This is the key to the speech.
00:13:46.000 Here we go.
00:13:48.000 Too much of what's happening in our country today is not normal.
00:13:54.000 Donald Trump and the MAGA Republicans represent an extremism that threatens the very foundations of our republic.
00:14:03.000 Now I want to be very clear.
00:14:06.000 Very clear up front.
00:14:09.000 Not every Republican, not even the majority of Republicans, are MAGA Republicans.
00:14:14.000 Not every Republican embraces their extreme ideology.
00:14:18.000 I know, because I've been able to work with these mainstream Republicans.
00:14:23.000 But there's no question that the Republican Party today is dominated, driven, and intimidated by Donald Trump and the MAGA Republicans.
00:14:34.000 And that is a threat to this country.
00:14:36.000 Okay, so what he's doing right here, the media are saying, well, when he's saying that, you know, a huge percentage of Americans are extremist threats to the country.
00:14:46.000 By the way, the answer usually to extremist threats to the country is you drone them or arrest them, right?
00:14:51.000 That's usually what you do.
00:14:53.000 If you said there's an extremist threat from abroad to the very soul of the republic, that would usually amount to, you know, military response, legal response, people going to jail.
00:15:03.000 So understand what he's doing.
00:15:05.000 When he says, you know, that's not a majority of Republicans.
00:15:07.000 That's not even, that's not everybody.
00:15:09.000 I know because I've been able to work with those who are not.
00:15:12.000 So I have a definitional question.
00:15:14.000 Who is he talking about?
00:15:15.000 A very simple question.
00:15:16.000 When he says Donald Trump and the MAGA Republicans, we know he hates Trump.
00:15:18.000 We know he thinks Trump's a threat to the Republic.
00:15:20.000 So put aside Trump personally.
00:15:22.000 When he says the MAGA Republicans, who is he talking about?
00:15:25.000 Is he talking about the 74 million people who voted for Donald Trump?
00:15:28.000 Is he talking about even beyond that?
00:15:30.000 Anyone who opposes his agenda now?
00:15:31.000 Because throughout the speech he's going to conflate all of these things.
00:15:33.000 All the people who voted for Trump?
00:15:34.000 Anyone who opposes his agenda now?
00:15:36.000 These are all in league with the MAGA Republicans.
00:15:38.000 If you're a pro-life person, you're in league with the MAGA Republicans.
00:15:40.000 Maybe you're a MAGA Republican.
00:15:41.000 Maybe you are.
00:15:41.000 Maybe you're a threat to the country.
00:15:43.000 If you are somebody who doesn't believe in him blowing out the budget, if you don't believe in him spending half a trillion dollars minimum on an unconstitutional student loan ballot, if you don't believe that Joe Biden has the power through OSHA to mandate that you vax, if you don't believe the Democrats have the power to shut down schools and shut down your businesses on the basis of a fake emergency, if you don't believe those things, are you a MAGA Republican or are you not?
00:16:04.000 He doesn't provide any litmus test.
00:16:05.000 The only litmus test that he provides in the speech as to who is not a MAGA Republican are Republicans he can work with.
00:16:14.000 As you'll see, as we go through the speech, that's who he is talking about.
00:16:17.000 The only people who are the good Republicans are the Republicans who do what he wants.
00:16:20.000 Those are the people who are not a threat.
00:16:22.000 Everybody else?
00:16:23.000 A threat.
00:16:24.000 Associated with threat.
00:16:25.000 Everybody else.
00:16:26.000 The people who are the good Republicans, the ones you don't have to worry about.
00:16:28.000 If you're out there, and you're a Republican, and you're worried that Joe Biden's coming after you, well, there's one way to avoid worrying about that.
00:16:34.000 And that is, you can be a good Republican who works with Joe Biden.
00:16:37.000 So presumably, this means like Mitt Romney on infrastructure.
00:16:41.000 Presumably this means like Murkowski in Alaska who has voted with Joe Biden a few times.
00:16:47.000 But it means it means like Bill Kristol and the team over at the dispatch or the bulwark.
00:16:52.000 Those are the good Republicans.
00:16:53.000 The good Republicans are the ones who basically Liz Cheney, the people who do Joe Biden's.
00:16:57.000 And by the way, they're only good Republicans so long as they do his bidding.
00:17:00.000 The minute they don't, they move back into MAGA Republican territory.
00:17:03.000 It's a binary equation here.
00:17:04.000 You're either with him or you're against him.
00:17:07.000 George W. Bush said that about actual terrorists.
00:17:10.000 Joe Biden says that about domestic Americans who oppose his political agenda.
00:17:14.000 He's again, I'm going to read that to you again.
00:17:15.000 He says, I want to be very clear up front.
00:17:17.000 Not every Republican, not even a majority of Republicans are MAGA Republicans.
00:17:20.000 Not every Republican embraces their extreme ideology.
00:17:23.000 He doesn't actually characterize what the extreme ideology is.
00:17:25.000 It just means people who oppose him.
00:17:26.000 Quote, I know because I've been able to work with these mainstream Republicans.
00:17:30.000 That's the litmus test.
00:17:31.000 If he works with you and if you work with him, then this means you are no longer, you don't have to worry about him labeling you the enemy.
00:17:37.000 But if you don't work with him, that is a very different story.
00:17:40.000 If you do not work with Joe Biden, well, then he is going to unleash the power of his administration against you.
00:17:47.000 And you should be ready because you are a threat to the Republic.
00:17:49.000 You, you, the person who doesn't like his agenda.
00:17:52.000 You, the person who says, hey, yeah, you know what?
00:17:55.000 I'll say that you won the election in 2020.
00:17:57.000 Sure.
00:17:58.000 But I think you're a horrible president.
00:17:59.000 You're doing a terrible job and you should never win another election again.
00:18:02.000 And you're a demagogue who is using the patina of unity in order to purge your political opponents from the public square.
00:18:10.000 You're the enemy.
00:18:11.000 That's what this speech was all about.
00:18:14.000 Him trying to buy that back a little bit by pretending that he's not speaking about all Republicans.
00:18:18.000 You're right.
00:18:19.000 He's not speaking about all Republicans.
00:18:21.000 There are people at the Lincoln Project he's not speaking about.
00:18:25.000 There are some people who used to be Republicans and no longer consider themselves such.
00:18:29.000 The Ana Navarro's of the world.
00:18:30.000 He's not talking about you.
00:18:31.000 But if you are a conservative who opposes his agenda, he is talking about you.
00:18:36.000 He is talking about you.
00:18:38.000 So, let's go through the indicators of who he is talking about when he decides that because he's talking about you as a threat to the Republic.
00:18:43.000 Again, threats to the Republic get thrown in jail.
00:18:45.000 That's what happens in the United States.
00:18:47.000 If you're an actual threat to the system of the United States, That is effectively treason.
00:18:51.000 So he's accusing many, many people in the country of treason.
00:18:55.000 So he goes on.
00:18:57.000 These are hard things, but I'm an American president, not a president of red America, blue America, but of all America.
00:19:10.000 And I believe it's my duty, my duty to love with you, to tell the truth, no matter how difficult, no matter how painful.
00:19:20.000 And here, in my view, is what is true.
00:19:24.000 MAGA Republicans do not respect the Constitution.
00:19:27.000 They do not believe in the rule of law.
00:19:29.000 They do not recognize the will of the people.
00:19:33.000 They refuse to accept the results of a free election.
00:19:36.000 And they're working right now, as I speak in state after state, to give power to decide elections in America to partisans and cronies.
00:19:47.000 Empowering election deniers to undermine democracy itself.
00:19:53.000 So a few things to note about this.
00:19:55.000 One, his own party has propped up some of these quote unquote election deniers in primaries so they can run against them.
00:20:00.000 Second, when he says Mag Republicans don't respect the Constitution, he declared last week that he could do something he had no constitutional power to do and simply relieve $500 billion in student loan debt.
00:20:14.000 Joe Biden despises the Constitution.
00:20:16.000 He sees it as a stricture preventing him from achieving the sort of power he craves.
00:20:21.000 When he says that Republicans don't believe in the rule of law, we've watched mass riots in 2020 promoted by the Democratic Party.
00:20:29.000 We have watched lawlessness break out in every major American city democratically governed.
00:20:35.000 We've seen people ransacking shops.
00:20:37.000 We've seen flash mobs wrecking places of business.
00:20:42.000 All in Democratic cities.
00:20:44.000 You're talking about rule of law from a man who has single-handedly declared over and over that he doesn't have the power to do a thing and then he just does it?
00:20:53.000 It's amazing, amazing stuff.
00:20:55.000 And when he says that they're working to undermine democracy itself, here's the thing.
00:20:59.000 If you were only talking about people who say, for example, in the states, yeah, you know what, if there's an election in my state and it goes the wrong way, I'm just going to throw out the result.
00:21:05.000 If you're just talking about that handful of people, if you're talking about that, That's an argument worth having.
00:21:11.000 He's not talking about those people.
00:21:12.000 This is a president of the United States who last year made a speech in which he said that if you were in favor of voter ID, you were akin to Bull Connor during Jim Crow.
00:21:23.000 He has suggested over and over that there is a mass effort by Republicans to prevent Americans from voting.
00:21:29.000 That voter suppression is a real issue in America.
00:21:31.000 And those people presumably are who he's talking about.
00:21:33.000 Now, voter suppression is not a major issue in America.
00:21:37.000 And when people say that voter fraud is a major issue in America, I think voter fraud is an issue in America because I can point to actual instances of voter fraud.
00:21:44.000 They are not nearly as copious as people think they are on the right.
00:21:48.000 I cannot point to a single example in the United States, and neither can you, of a person who wanted to vote and had their vote actively suppressed.
00:21:55.000 And if that did happen, that would be a federal civil rights violation.
00:21:59.000 But again, Joe Biden's goal here is to lump everybody in with the enemy.
00:22:02.000 Everybody he doesn't like is Hitler, he says, while standing in front of a set that could have been created by Lenny Reif and Stahl.
00:22:08.000 It's unbelievable.
00:22:10.000 OK, he continues.
00:22:12.000 MAGA forces are determined to take this country backwards.
00:22:17.000 Backwards to an America where there is no right to choose, no right to privacy, no right to contraception, no right to marry who you love.
00:22:30.000 Yep, he said the quiet part out loud, guys.
00:22:32.000 Remember that part like two seconds ago when he said he's not talking about all Republicans?
00:22:35.000 He's not talking about all conservatives.
00:22:37.000 He's just talking about the real MAGA extremists.
00:22:40.000 Know you this.
00:22:41.000 If you are a person who believes in the right to life for unborn human beings, you are a MAGA extremist, determined to take America backwards.
00:22:52.000 If you believe there is no constitutional right to privacy, because literally there is no constitutional right to privacy, If you are Samuel Alito, if you are Clarence Thomas, if you are Justice Gorsuch, if you are Brett Kavanaugh, if you are Amy Coney Barrett, if you are, for that matter, John Roberts, who voted on this, you are a MAGA extremist.
00:23:11.000 If you believe there is no right to contraception, because there is no right to contraception in the Constitution of the United States, if you believe, in traditional marriage, that you do not have the unfettered right to marry anyone that you wish to have sex with, In the United States, which is a historically true statement, there is no right under the Constitution for you to marry anybody you love.
00:23:31.000 By the way, even Joe Biden doesn't believe that.
00:23:33.000 Joe Biden doesn't believe that brothers have a right to marry one another, for example.
00:23:36.000 I assume.
00:23:37.000 Maybe he'll change his opinion on that and float another trial balloon.
00:23:39.000 Bottom line here is this.
00:23:41.000 If you oppose his political agenda, you are a MAGA extremist.
00:23:46.000 So he started off with this group of Republicans who are not MAGA extremists.
00:23:49.000 And then he's shrinking it.
00:23:50.000 He's shrinking it.
00:23:52.000 And now, it turns out that if you just don't agree with him on his interpretation of American law, this makes you a MAGA extremist determined to take America backwards.
00:24:01.000 By the way, it is reminiscent of the language he used to use about Mitt Romney.
00:24:04.000 You remember that in 2012, he suggested that Mitt Romney wanted to take us back to the 1950s.
00:24:09.000 He wants to put y'all back in chains.
00:24:11.000 So yeah, I have doubts.
00:24:12.000 When Joe Biden says he doesn't mean all of you, He's using the exact same language about Mitt Romney in 2012 as he is using about you today as he is using about people who actually rioted on January 6th.
00:24:22.000 That is the goal.
00:24:24.000 He's saying it straight up.
00:24:26.000 You oppose his agenda.
00:24:27.000 You are the enemy.
00:24:28.000 And here I am at a taxpayer-funded event flanked by members of the American military with the Independence Hall lit in blood red in order to explain to you why I'm pro-democracy.
00:24:40.000 Then he has the gall to explain that it's his opponents who are promoting authoritarian leaders.
00:24:45.000 Again, says the man who has centralized more power in the executive branch than any president in American history.
00:24:50.000 Here we go.
00:24:52.000 They promote authoritarian leaders and they fan the flames of political violence that are a threat to our personal rights, to the pursuit of justice, to the rule of law, to the very soul of this country.
00:25:07.000 Can you pause it for one second?
00:25:09.000 Okay, before we go further in this particular clip, I'm old enough to remember, because I'm more than two years old, when the Democratic Party promoted the lie that America's police were systemically racist, pooh-poohed massive, most damaging riots in American history in the summer of 2020, when the vice president, second in command to this guy, the heir apparent, tried to bail out rioters in Minneapolis in the middle of 2020.
00:25:34.000 Right now, we've had a spate of church burnings and bombings and pro-life clinics that have been attacked.
00:25:40.000 And this administration has done nothing about those things.
00:25:43.000 Dead silence about all of that.
00:25:46.000 We had a person who tried to assassinate Justice Brett Kavanaugh in his home, was ready to do that.
00:25:52.000 And you're saying that the opposition are the people who are fanning the flames of political... By the way, what fans the flames of political violence more than literally labeling half the country from the podium of the President of the United States, enemies of the Republic?
00:26:04.000 People who wish to tear down the republic.
00:26:06.000 Traitors.
00:26:07.000 It's hard to think of anything that could raise the temperature more than that.
00:26:10.000 And that's exactly what he's doing.
00:26:12.000 I oppose political violence.
00:26:13.000 Also, all of my opponents are basically akin to domestic terrorists.
00:26:18.000 I mean, number one, you're driving a press for oppression on behalf of the actual state.
00:26:23.000 And number two, you're driving people who may be prone to violence to actually take up arms and commit acts of violence.
00:26:30.000 You're raising the temperature.
00:26:31.000 There's no question that's what he's doing here in the most cynical possible way.
00:26:34.000 Because then, if God forbid, there is violence, he's going to then attribute that to all of his political opposition.
00:26:39.000 It's a cynical and despicable play from a guy who's now proclaiming that he's there for unity.
00:26:46.000 My God.
00:26:47.000 Continue.
00:26:50.000 They look at the mob that stormed the United States Capitol on January 6th, brutally attacking law enforcement.
00:26:57.000 Not as insurrectionists who placed a dagger at the throat of our democracy, but they look at us as patriots.
00:27:05.000 And they see their MAGA failure to stop a peaceful transfer of power after the 2020 election as preparation for the 2022 and 2024 elections.
00:27:18.000 They tried everything last time to nullify the votes of 81 million people.
00:27:26.000 This time, they're determined to succeed in thwarting the will of the people.
00:27:33.000 So again, I am not a person who has said that I think Joe Biden lost the 2020 election.
00:27:40.000 But the entire Democratic Party spent four years claiming that Donald Trump was the illegitimate president of the United States based on Russian collusion in the 2016 election.
00:27:48.000 The current White House press secretary has said twice that Republicans stole elections.
00:27:53.000 She has not been asked that one single time.
00:27:55.000 Green Jean-Pierre said that.
00:27:59.000 It's just an incredible thing.
00:28:01.000 It's an incredible thing.
00:28:01.000 And again, even if you agree with this part of the speech where you're right, there are people out there and they're denying the election.
00:28:06.000 They shouldn't deny the election.
00:28:07.000 He lumped together everyone who is pro-life in this country, people who are pro-Second Amendment in this country, people who believe in traditional marriage in this country with that.
00:28:16.000 They're all the same.
00:28:16.000 They're all enemies of the Republic.
00:28:18.000 They're dangers to equality and democracy.
00:28:21.000 They are threats to the soul of America.
00:28:24.000 We're just getting started.
00:28:24.000 It gets worse and worse.
00:28:26.000 Here we go.
00:28:28.000 That's why respected conservatives, like Federal Circuit Court Judge Michael Ludwig, has called Trump and the extreme MAGA Republicans, quote, a clear and present danger to our democracy.
00:28:46.000 But while the threat to American democracy is real, I want to say as clearly as we can, we are not powerless in the face of these threats.
00:28:58.000 We are not bystanders in this ongoing attack on democracy.
00:29:04.000 There are far more Americans, far more Americans, from every background of belief, who reject the extreme MAGA ideology than those that accept it.
00:29:18.000 You're not powerless.
00:29:19.000 You're not powerless, guys.
00:29:20.000 There are people who are attacking democracy.
00:29:22.000 What are you going to do about it?
00:29:23.000 They're attacking it.
00:29:25.000 Now, typically in America, when people attack our democracy, when people attack, again, that's criminal behavior.
00:29:31.000 He's encouraging half the population to see the other half of the population as actual criminals and traitors.
00:29:38.000 And the hypocrisy of the speech, the things that he says about his political opponent that apply mostly to him, they just come fast and furious here.
00:29:47.000 He then, in the most galling fashion, while labeling half of the American population traitors to the country, he then suggested he is here for unity.
00:29:55.000 It's enough to make you vomit.
00:29:56.000 It really is.
00:29:57.000 It's truly stomach-churning.
00:29:59.000 So, Joe Biden just continued along these lines.
00:30:02.000 Again, the idea is that everyone he opposes is bad.
00:30:06.000 Every single person.
00:30:07.000 And he says we are now at an inflection point.
00:30:09.000 We're at an inflection point.
00:30:10.000 And you have a binary choice.
00:30:11.000 You're either with him, or you're with them.
00:30:14.000 You're with us, or you're with the MAGA extremists.
00:30:17.000 Here's Joe Biden.
00:30:19.000 It's in our hands, yours and mine.
00:30:22.000 To stop the assault on American democracy.
00:30:26.000 I believe America is at an inflection point.
00:30:30.000 One of those moments that determine the shape of everything that's to come after.
00:30:35.000 And now, America must choose to move forward or to move backwards.
00:30:44.000 To build a future or obsess about the past.
00:30:48.000 To be a nation of hope and unity and optimism.
00:30:51.000 are a nation of fear, division, and of darkness.
00:30:55.000 Magga republicans have made their choice.
00:31:00.000 They embrace anger.
00:31:02.000 They thrive on chaos.
00:31:04.000 They live not in the light of truth, but in the shadow of lies.
00:31:09.000 But together, together we can choose a different path.
00:31:14.000 We can choose a better path.
00:31:17.000 Forward to the future.
00:31:20.000 The future of possibility.
00:31:22.000 This stuff sounded better in the original German.
00:31:25.000 When he says things like, my opponents, they stoke fear, division, and darkness.
00:31:30.000 Flanked by members of the military and a blood-red background.
00:31:35.000 When he says, my political opponents, these are people who thrive on chaos.
00:31:39.000 They live in the shadow of lies.
00:31:41.000 Those are my political opponents.
00:31:42.000 But together, we can choose light and happiness.
00:31:45.000 We can choose something wonderful.
00:31:48.000 And then he's so nonspecific about the people he's talking about that it literally includes everyone who is pro-life.
00:31:53.000 Every single person who's pro-traditional marriage.
00:31:55.000 Every single person who opposes the transing of the children.
00:31:58.000 All those people are people who live in the shadow of lies.
00:32:02.000 And he can tell you that he's not thriving on fear and chaos.
00:32:05.000 This is a man who's against fear and living on fear and chaos and generating hatred for the opponent.
00:32:11.000 You should definitely fear and hate the chaos of his opponents.
00:32:16.000 I mean, it's the gaslighting of this speech.
00:32:19.000 Astonishing.
00:32:21.000 And then he talks about his own values.
00:32:23.000 He talks about the values of our nation.
00:32:25.000 And gag me with a spoon, man.
00:32:28.000 I mean, this is just all the stuff he says that his opponents believe.
00:32:32.000 The projection here is epic levels of projection.
00:32:37.000 This is a nation that honors our Constitution.
00:32:40.000 We do not reject it.
00:32:43.000 This is a nation that believes in the rule of law.
00:32:46.000 We do not repudiate it.
00:32:49.000 This is a nation that respects free and fair elections.
00:32:52.000 We honor the will of the people.
00:32:54.000 We do not deny it.
00:32:58.000 And this is a nation that rejects violence as a political tool.
00:33:04.000 We do not encourage violence.
00:33:07.000 We are still an America that believes in honesty and decency.
00:33:12.000 And respect for others.
00:33:13.000 Patriotism, liberty, justice for all, hope, possibilities.
00:33:17.000 We are still, at our core, a democracy.
00:33:23.000 By democracy, he means, you're a bunch of people who delegate all power to me through a pure mob rule election.
00:33:30.000 When he says this is a nation that honors our constitution, it's hard to think of a president who's honored our constitution less than this one.
00:33:37.000 He's been struck down by the Supreme Court on executive overage multiple times.
00:33:40.000 Then he's done it anyway.
00:33:41.000 He was told by the Supreme Court, you cannot use the CDC to cram down an eviction moratorium.
00:33:46.000 And he's like, you know what?
00:33:47.000 I'm doing it anyway.
00:33:48.000 I'm just going to do it anyway.
00:33:49.000 Because after all, we'll get a month of people not paying their rent out of it.
00:33:53.000 This person has zero care about the Constitution.
00:33:56.000 When he says, we believe in the rule of law, we do not repudiate it, I'm going to need to see some details on what exactly causes you to unleash the Attorney General of the United States and the DOJ on the possibility of prosecuting your political opponent.
00:34:09.000 And it better not be the same kind of stuff that Hillary Clinton got away with.
00:34:14.000 When he says we respect free and fair elections, you spent four years declaring that Donald Trump was Vladimir Putin's puppet.
00:34:21.000 He says we honor the will of the people, we don't deny it.
00:34:25.000 Is that really the case?
00:34:26.000 Because it seems to me that every time you lose a political battle, you declare the entire game rigged.
00:34:31.000 And we reject violence as a political... We don't encourage violence.
00:34:35.000 You had mayors of your cities writing in giant block letters, Black Lives Matter and defund the police in the middle of a rioting summer.
00:34:46.000 Again, the projection is astonishing.
00:34:47.000 You're supposed to believe that these are the people who are pro-Constitution.
00:34:50.000 They're pro-rule of law.
00:34:51.000 They're pro-liberty.
00:34:53.000 They're pro-Republicanism.
00:34:54.000 These are the ones.
00:34:56.000 And I'm never going to get over the irony of him saying all this stuff while looking like he stepped straight out of the pages of a Mussolini speech.
00:35:02.000 It's amazing.
00:35:03.000 You could Photoshop this guy into a Mussolini background right here, and it would look almost the same.
00:35:09.000 But don't worry, guys.
00:35:10.000 He's, you know, he's against authoritarianism, is Joe Biden, the greatest centralizer of power in the executive branch in American history.
00:35:16.000 History tells us the blind loyalty to a single leader and a willingness to engage in political violence is fatal to democracy.
00:35:28.000 For a long time, we've told ourselves that American democracy is guaranteed, but it's not.
00:35:36.000 We have to defend it, protect it.
00:35:41.000 Blind loyalty to a single leader is a problem.
00:35:44.000 I seem to remember a few political cults in the past.
00:35:47.000 And again, I have very little belief that Joe Biden believes that loyalty to a single figure is a particularly bad thing while standing using taxpayer dollars in front of Marines.
00:36:00.000 I mean, again, this is not the Marines fault.
00:36:02.000 It's the whole point.
00:36:03.000 He's hijacking the power of the presidency in order to use the prop of the military to back his message.
00:36:12.000 It's an extraordinary breach of what it means to be the President of the United States.
00:36:16.000 But don't worry.
00:36:17.000 He's going to call on all of us to come together.
00:36:18.000 We're going to come together around fighting the internal enemy.
00:36:21.000 We're going to come together around you ratting on your neighbors.
00:36:25.000 You never know.
00:36:25.000 It might be a member of your family.
00:36:27.000 It might be you.
00:36:28.000 You might have to report yourself.
00:36:30.000 Here we go.
00:36:31.000 That's why tonight I'm asking our nation to come together Unite behind the single purpose of defending our democracy regardless of your ideology.
00:36:42.000 We're all called by duty and conscience to confront extremists who put their own pursuit of power above all else.
00:36:51.000 Democrats, independents, mainstream Republicans, we must be stronger, more determined, and more committed to saving American democracy than maggot Republicans are to destroying American democracy.
00:37:04.000 We, the people, We the people, the mob, we will not let anyone tear this country apart.
00:37:16.000 Go after your neighbor, go after him.
00:37:19.000 That's how we unite.
00:37:20.000 We unite by coming together as a mob and going after that guy who voted the other way in the last election cycle.
00:37:27.000 That guy, he probably hates democracy.
00:37:29.000 The best thing we can do, we got to shut that ass up.
00:37:32.000 Really important.
00:37:34.000 We gotta go after him.
00:37:35.000 We gotta ruin him.
00:37:36.000 We gotta use the power of the state to quash him.
00:37:39.000 That's how we achieve unity.
00:37:42.000 I said when Joe Biden took office and he gave his big unity address, there are only two ways to achieve unity in a disparate polity.
00:37:48.000 One, you accept that some people disagree with you and you move on.
00:37:51.000 Two, you purge.
00:37:52.000 I think it's pretty clear which direction Joe Biden prefers.
00:37:55.000 Okay, but he says, you know what?
00:37:57.000 I don't like political violence.
00:37:58.000 Political violence is really bad.
00:38:00.000 So here I am saying that my political opponents are extremists, which is the word that we used to use for terrorists.
00:38:05.000 They're domestic extremists who hate democracy and want to destroy the fundamentals of the Republic.
00:38:10.000 But guys, I hate violence.
00:38:11.000 I really do.
00:38:13.000 Violence is totally uncalled for against those people over there who just want to destroy the country, like fundamentally rip apart everything that it's about, hurt you, hurt your family.
00:38:20.000 Those people, they are the worst.
00:38:23.000 They're semi-fascists.
00:38:24.000 They're quasi-Nazis.
00:38:25.000 But I hate political violence, guys.
00:38:27.000 Political violence is so not appropriate.
00:38:29.000 Here's Joe Biden playing both sides.
00:38:32.000 We hear, you've heard it, more and more talk about violence as an acceptable political tool.
00:38:40.000 In this country.
00:38:42.000 It's not.
00:38:44.000 It can never be an acceptable tool.
00:38:47.000 So I want to say this plain and simple.
00:38:49.000 There is no place for political violence in America.
00:38:53.000 Period.
00:38:54.000 None.
00:38:55.000 Ever.
00:38:57.000 Oh, no place for it.
00:38:59.000 You know when that would have been a lot more useful?
00:39:01.000 Is when there were literally 21 million people marching in the streets and a significant number of people who then broke into stores, looted them, burned things down, and attacked police.
00:39:15.000 Okay, but here's the thing.
00:39:16.000 Joe Biden, when he says that his political opponents are the font head of all evil in the universe, when he says that, you have to understand, he really likes dissent.
00:39:24.000 He likes having these big, complicated conversations.
00:39:26.000 He likes the give and take of American politics, you traitorous bastards, you.
00:39:30.000 I believe in the give and take of politics and disagreement and debate and dissent.
00:39:35.000 We're a big, complicated country.
00:39:39.000 But democracy endures only if We, the people, respect the guardrails of the republic only if we, the people, accept the results of free and fair elections.
00:39:52.000 Only if we, the people, see politics not as total war but mediation of our differences.
00:40:01.000 Democracy cannot survive when one side believes there are only two outcomes to an election.
00:40:08.000 Either they win or they were cheated.
00:40:12.000 And that's where the maggot Republicans are today.
00:40:16.000 You spent four years and tens of millions of dollars on the theory that either Hillary Clinton won or you were cheated.
00:40:24.000 I'm sorry, Democrats have not accepted the results of a presidential election that went the other way for them since about 1988.
00:40:33.000 They thought the 2000 election was stolen.
00:40:35.000 They did not accept that George W. Bush was a legitimate president.
00:40:38.000 2004 was supposedly an outgrowth of 2000 and also die-bold voting machines.
00:40:42.000 In 2016, Donald Trump was a tool of the Russians and it was Facebook memes that got him elected.
00:40:47.000 Don't lecture us about accepting elections when you still say that Stacey Abrams is the rightful governor of Georgia after she lost by 50,000 votes in her last gubernatorial race.
00:40:56.000 Yes, it's really bad when you have both sides rejecting the results of elections.
00:41:00.000 But let's stop pretending that this is a one-sided issue.
00:41:02.000 It is not.
00:41:03.000 It is bad when both sides do it.
00:41:04.000 Democrats seem to have a rule.
00:41:05.000 It's that it's really bad when you do it.
00:41:07.000 It's great when we do.
00:41:10.000 So he continues along these lines.
00:41:13.000 You can't love democracy only when you win.
00:41:15.000 This line is so astonishing coming from this leader of this party.
00:41:18.000 Here we go.
00:41:20.000 You can't love your country only when you win.
00:41:25.000 It's fundamental.
00:41:30.000 American democracy only works only if we choose to respect the rule of law and the institutions that were set up in this chamber behind me.
00:41:42.000 Only if we respect our legitimate political differences.
00:41:48.000 I will not stand by and watch.
00:41:50.000 I will not.
00:41:52.000 The will of the American people be overturned by wild conspiracy theories.
00:41:56.000 I will not stand by and watch elections in this country stolen by people who simply refuse to accept that they lost.
00:42:07.000 I will not stand by and watch the most fundamental freedom in this country, the freedom to vote and have your vote counted.
00:42:16.000 And be taken from you and the American people.
00:42:20.000 There are people, did you know, who are actively attempting to prevent you from voting?
00:42:23.000 Now, one of the things that's amazing here is that there has been a bipartisan possibility of a bill that's been brought up by Mitch McConnell in the Senate, and that is change the Electoral Count Act so that there is no possibility of rejecting certified votes from the states.
00:42:38.000 The Democrats won't pass it because they want to run on these issues.
00:42:42.000 They want to pretend that their opponents hate democracy and then run on that.
00:42:46.000 When he says, this line is so amazing coming from the Democrats, you can't love democracy only when you win.
00:42:51.000 You know what the polls show?
00:42:53.000 The polls show over and over and over again that Republicans remain patriotic.
00:42:59.000 They say they love the country even when Democrats win.
00:43:02.000 Democrats change their opinions on how much they love the country based almost solely on when they are winning and losing.
00:43:08.000 This has been a longtime feature of American politics.
00:43:11.000 This is true under every Pew, Gallup, and every other poll that's ever been taken.
00:43:16.000 When it comes to feelings of patriotism, Republicans are very consistent that they love the country.
00:43:20.000 Democrats only love the country when Barack Obama is president.
00:43:23.000 And then when Donald Trump wins, boom, the patriotism just drops off the table.
00:43:27.000 When he says that we have to work to respect the rule of law and the institutions that were set up in the chamber, he despises those institutions.
00:43:36.000 He has called for the end of the filibuster, for example.
00:43:38.000 He is somebody who says that the Supreme Court of the United States is not doing its job unless it just greenlights what he is doing.
00:43:44.000 He has done stuff he himself has declared illegal.
00:43:47.000 But he's an institutionalist, don't you know?
00:43:49.000 I mean, this is gaslighting at the very, very highest level.
00:43:52.000 Again, when he says that there are people in this country who are attempting to suppress the right to vote, that is such a lie.
00:43:56.000 What exactly is the evidence that he has that millions of votes are being not counted and thrown out?
00:44:01.000 It was Republican officials in Georgia who certified the election.
00:44:04.000 It was Republican officials in Arizona who certified the election.
00:44:06.000 It was Republican officials in Wisconsin and in Pennsylvania who certified the election.
00:44:10.000 It was Vice President Mike Pence who certified the election.
00:44:13.000 The Vice President to Donald Trump.
00:44:14.000 It was Mitch McConnell who certified the election.
00:44:17.000 But he labels all those people MAGA Republicans.
00:44:19.000 All of them.
00:44:20.000 Every single one of those people.
00:44:22.000 Because again, it's not about the thing he says it's about.
00:44:25.000 It's about the people who oppose him are the enemy of the country.
00:44:28.000 And you can tell this because then he links it to his current political program.
00:44:31.000 Because then, about three quarters of the way through the speech, it just turns into him listing off all of the amazing things that he has done.
00:44:37.000 Because if you oppose those amazing things that he has done, this means you're an enemy of the Republic.
00:44:42.000 So he talks about how he is the light that has emerged from the darkness.
00:44:44.000 He, in his grim, elderly visage, barely able to speak without either being jacked up to heights of adrenaline that make him nearly incomprehensible, or he falls asleep, like he's suffering from narcolepsy.
00:45:02.000 He is saying that he is the light that has emerged.
00:45:05.000 He is the messianic figure that has emerged from the darkness, he said, flanked.
00:45:08.000 I can't get over this.
00:45:09.000 Flanked by a blood red independence hall.
00:45:12.000 Throughout our history, America has often made the greatest progress coming out of some of our darkest moments, like you're hearing that bullhorn.
00:45:24.000 Okay, so here I think we should point out that about two-thirds of the way through the speech, there was a guy in a bullhorn who was audible on the audio and what he was screaming was F Joe Biden.
00:45:33.000 That's who he was screaming.
00:45:36.000 And Joe Biden says that the darkest moments of our history are the things coming out of that bullhorn.
00:45:41.000 People saying they don't like him.
00:45:43.000 That's the darkest moments of our history.
00:45:45.000 And you know what the progress is that came out of the darkest moments of our history?
00:45:48.000 That progress was him.
00:45:50.000 He is the progress.
00:45:51.000 He is the man on the donkey riding into Judea.
00:45:55.000 He is, you thought he was just a venal corrupt old politician who's lusted after power his entire life and now that he's gained it, is gripping it with the fiery force of a thousand suns.
00:46:05.000 You thought that's who he was.
00:46:07.000 But no, actually, he is a light bringer.
00:46:10.000 Like his predecessor, he's a light bringer.
00:46:14.000 So he compares himself to, once again, the MAGA Republicans.
00:46:18.000 And amazing stuff here.
00:46:22.000 MAGA Republicans look at America and see carnage and darkness and despair.
00:46:27.000 They spread fear and lies.
00:46:29.000 Lies told for profit and power.
00:46:33.000 But I see a different America.
00:46:35.000 An America with an unlimited future.
00:46:38.000 An America that's about to take off.
00:46:42.000 I mean, that's an amazing statement.
00:46:43.000 So his opponents see carnage, darkness and despair.
00:46:45.000 This entire speech has been about how half the American population wishes to destroy the democracy in which we live.
00:46:50.000 But don't worry.
00:46:51.000 It's his opponents who see carnage and darkness and despair.
00:46:55.000 He's hopeful.
00:46:56.000 You see, he's an optimist.
00:46:57.000 What makes him optimistic?
00:46:58.000 What makes him optimistic is that he has spent more money than any president in the history of the world.
00:47:03.000 What makes him optimistic is that he has rammed through useless package after useless package, bringing us to 40-year highs in inflation and the brink of a very serious recession in the United States.
00:47:12.000 What makes him optimistic is things like pulling out of Afghanistan and subjecting 38 million people to the predations of the Taliban.
00:47:16.000 I mean, all these things make him optimistic.
00:47:19.000 It turns out that optimism is wrapped up.
00:47:20.000 If you're optimistic about the country, it's because you love Joe Biden.
00:47:23.000 It's just that simple.
00:47:24.000 Here we go.
00:47:25.000 Just look around.
00:47:28.000 I believe we could lift America from the depths of COVID.
00:47:31.000 So we passed the largest economic recovery package since Franklin Delano Roosevelt.
00:47:35.000 I believe we could build a better America.
00:47:37.000 So we passed the biggest infrastructure investment since President Dwight D. Eisenhower.
00:47:41.000 And I believe we could create a clean energy future and save the planet.
00:47:48.000 So we passed the most important climate initiative ever, ever, ever.
00:47:56.000 Right, so the light is his policy.
00:47:59.000 It turns out the cure is not saying that people win elections.
00:48:03.000 That's not the cure.
00:48:05.000 The cure is not even rejecting Donald Trump.
00:48:07.000 The cure, according to Joe Biden, is embrace all of the things I want.
00:48:11.000 And if you don't embrace all of the things that I want, this means you are standing with the white supremacists and the extremists.
00:48:17.000 He makes this absolutely explicit in the next minute of the speech.
00:48:21.000 No matter what the white supremacists and the extremists say, I made a bet on you, the American people, and that bet is paying off.
00:48:30.000 Proving that from darkness, the darkness of Charlottesville, of COVID, of gun violence, of insurrection, we can see the light.
00:48:38.000 Light is now visible.
00:48:40.000 Light that will guide us forward.
00:48:43.000 Not only in words, but in actions.
00:48:45.000 Actions for you, for your children, for your grandchildren, for America.
00:48:50.000 Even in this moment.
00:48:51.000 Stop it right there.
00:48:53.000 When he says, well, I mean, again, the juxtaposition is a binary, Manichaean juxtaposition.
00:49:01.000 There are the white supremacists, the MAGA extremists, and I made a bet that they were going to lose.
00:49:06.000 And the proof that they're losing is that I, the Lightbringer, have done all of these things.
00:49:11.000 All of my policies are the solution.
00:49:13.000 If you don't back my policies, obviously, you're with Charlottesville.
00:49:16.000 Obviously, you love gun violence.
00:49:18.000 Obviously, you're a person who loves COVID.
00:49:20.000 You're a COVID lover.
00:49:22.000 Because he is the person who has brought us all together for our children, for our grandchildren, for America.
00:49:29.000 And if you don't believe that, then you're the enemy.
00:49:32.000 You.
00:49:33.000 You are.
00:49:33.000 Don't you feel the light?
00:49:35.000 Don't you feel the happiness and the optimism?
00:49:39.000 Don't you?
00:49:44.000 The political lack of acumen here is astonishing.
00:49:48.000 The moral blindness here is even more astonishing.
00:49:52.000 And again, that combined with the worst optics I've ever seen from a major American figure leads me to say this is the worst speech I've ever seen in my entire life.
00:50:01.000 And of course, he doesn't stop there.
00:50:03.000 He just continues beating this dead horse into the ground.
00:50:06.000 He takes a jackhammer, just starts jackhammering that corpse into the ground.
00:50:09.000 Here we go.
00:50:10.000 That's where we need to focus our energy.
00:50:13.000 Not in the past.
00:50:15.000 Not on divisive culture wars.
00:50:18.000 Not on the politics of grievance.
00:50:20.000 But on a future we can build together.
00:50:23.000 The Maggie Republicans believe that for them to succeed, everyone else has to fail.
00:50:28.000 They believe America is not like I believe about America.
00:50:34.000 I believe America is big enough for all of us to succeed.
00:50:37.000 And that is the nation we're building, a nation where no one is left behind.
00:50:45.000 I feel the like, do you?
00:50:47.000 Do you feel it?
00:50:48.000 We focus not on the past, not on grievances, not on divisive culture wars, but on that son of a bitch right there.
00:50:56.000 That guy, if we pummel that guy together, we're going to feel the unity.
00:51:00.000 We're going to build a nation where no one is left behind except for that jackass.
00:51:05.000 Man, you see the guy in the MAGA hat over there?
00:51:07.000 We are just gonna clock the sh** out of him.
00:51:10.000 And that will bring us together like never, ever, ever before.
00:51:14.000 Do you feel the light?
00:51:16.000 Do you feel the warmth?
00:51:17.000 Do you feel the heavenly voice shine upon you?
00:51:21.000 Do you feel it?
00:51:22.000 So Joe Biden, once again, the idea, of course, is that the way that he's going to build a country big enough for all of us is by excising a significant percentage of us.
00:51:31.000 And this he calls the battle for the soul of the nation.
00:51:33.000 The battle for the soul ends with somebody losing.
00:51:36.000 The people who are going to lose are all the people who disagree with him.
00:51:39.000 Here we go.
00:51:41.000 I believe we're in a battle for the soul of this nation.
00:51:44.000 I still believe that to be true.
00:51:47.000 I believe the soul is the breath, the life, and the essence of who we are.
00:51:54.000 The soul is what makes us, us.
00:51:58.000 The soul of America is defined by the sacred proposition that all are created equal in the image of God.
00:52:06.000 That all are entitled to be treated with decency, dignity, and respect.
00:52:10.000 That all deserve justice and a shot at lives of prosperity and consequence.
00:52:16.000 And that democracy, democracy must be defended.
00:52:20.000 For democracy makes all these things possible.
00:52:25.000 This seems like a dude who loves democracy, right?
00:52:28.000 He loves it.
00:52:28.000 He just loves popular rule and he loves checks and balances.
00:52:32.000 He likes individual rights protected by a limited government.
00:52:35.000 Those are the things he probably, probably likes.
00:52:38.000 And here is the thing.
00:52:39.000 The way to protect democracy is to vote for him.
00:52:43.000 Obviously.
00:52:44.000 Obviously, not to vote for his opponents, not to engage in the rough back and forth politics.
00:52:48.000 That stuff, that's secondary.
00:52:49.000 What he needs is power.
00:52:51.000 See, if you give him more power, he'll preserve the democracy.
00:52:54.000 That's the best way to preserve a democracy is to hand power to one person and centralize authority in him.
00:53:00.000 That's how you preserve democracy in a time of crisis, says Joe Biden.
00:53:05.000 Vote, vote, vote.
00:53:10.000 And if we do our duty, if we do our duty in 2022 and beyond, Then ages still to come will say we, all of us here, we kept the faith.
00:53:24.000 We preserved democracy.
00:53:27.000 We heeded our worst, we heeded not our worst instincts, but our better angels.
00:53:34.000 And he concluded by suggesting once again, we're united guys.
00:53:37.000 We're the United States of America.
00:53:38.000 Except for that guy.
00:53:40.000 That guy, whoo!
00:53:42.000 Better do something about him.
00:53:43.000 But we are the United... My favorite is when he just starts quoting Barack Obama, but it's just feeble and tired and old and a worse version of demagoguery, like significantly worse.
00:53:52.000 At least Barack Obama, when he was demagoguing it, he had the brains not to do it in front of Mussolini's set.
00:53:58.000 But here's Joe Biden.
00:54:02.000 We are the United States of America.
00:54:05.000 The United States of America.
00:54:08.000 And may God protect our nation and may God protect all those who stand watch over our democracy.
00:54:15.000 God bless you all.
00:54:16.000 Democracy.
00:54:17.000 Thank you.
00:54:20.000 Democracy.
00:54:21.000 Thank you.
00:54:22.000 I love democracy.
00:54:26.000 So how did the media celebrate this speech?
00:54:27.000 Well, the way that you would think.
00:54:29.000 They immediately began performing a prostate massage on the president of the United States.
00:54:34.000 So here are members of the media just going gaga over all of this.
00:54:37.000 They loved it.
00:54:37.000 They loved it because of course they are apparatchiks of the state apparatus.
00:54:40.000 So here we go.
00:54:42.000 This is a speech Joe Biden's wanted to give for a very long time.
00:54:45.000 I really thought this was a fascinating bit of presidential stagecraft and rhetoric.
00:54:51.000 It was a very, very patriotic speech.
00:54:53.000 I appreciate his hope and his sense of patriotism.
00:54:57.000 And I couldn't agree more with what he said.
00:54:59.000 He talked about A kind of coalition of those of goodwill coming together to unite to defend democracy.
00:55:06.000 He almost seemed to sort of be reclaiming patriotism.
00:55:09.000 He literally framed this as a battle between light and darkness.
00:55:12.000 And he called on Americans to come together despite their political differences.
00:55:16.000 Where he says to the heckler, that dude, that man, that person from the other side is entitled to be outraged.
00:55:22.000 Totally.
00:55:22.000 Republicans right now would have that heckler be beaten.
00:55:24.000 Yes, our media say they say, you know, it's all about coming together.
00:55:34.000 That's what it was.
00:55:34.000 It was all about patriotism.
00:55:38.000 Joe Biden said that he was going to come into power and he was going to restore normalcy.
00:55:44.000 He was going to bring down the temperature.
00:55:46.000 He was going to restore unity in the country.
00:55:48.000 And then he gave that speech.
00:55:50.000 If you trust this man with power, if you trust this man again with power and his party with power, I don't know what you are thinking.
00:55:56.000 I, honest to God, do not know what you are thinking.
00:56:00.000 It is a dark time in American history.
00:56:02.000 That dark time is not going to be alleviated by a president of the United States with actual authoritarian ambitions, speaking falsely on behalf of democracy and equality, while ripping half the country as actual moral enemies.
00:56:13.000 Alrighty, folks, we've reached the end of the show, but we'll be back here Tuesday with much, much more.
00:56:17.000 Enjoy Labor Day weekend.
00:56:18.000 I'm Ben Shapiro.
