00:00:15.000That he has the adoration of an entire legacy media, and that he also sympathizes with the radical Islamic hatred for the United States.
00:00:21.000Well, that would be Mayor Zoran Momdani.
00:00:23.000Yesterday, Zoran Momdani pulled the single most disgusting communist stunt I've probably ever seen in America in New York City.
00:00:30.000And it's only going to get worse from here.
00:00:40.000So, it is certainly not unprecedented in human history that when people take positions of power, they seek to unleash the proletariat against the bourgeois.
00:00:51.000Well, Zor Mamdani decided yesterday that it would be a great idea to do this in the most obvious and disgusting way.
00:00:57.000So, yesterday, according to the New York Post, Mamdani's administration published a searchable database of New York properties that could theoretically fall under the state's new pied-a-terre tax.
00:01:08.000And so, that pied-a-terre tax was supposed to be a tax on people's second homes.
00:01:13.000And now the city has decided to upload a comprehensive list purporting to cover all unoccupied non primary residents in the five boroughs worth north of a million bucks, but not just the addresses, the full names and the addresses of every single property owner.
00:01:28.000So it's just a list of supposedly rich people.
00:01:31.000The New York Post counted some 960,000 residences and individuals listed as potentially in line to be hit with Mamdani's Pinot Air tax, even though originally when he was selling this stuff, he said it would be 31,000 homes.
00:01:45.000That would be liable for the pied de terre tax, the second home tax.
00:01:50.000So they listed almost a million residences and people.
00:01:54.000And it includes everybody, everybody who's rich, including, by the way, some A list celebrities like Taylor Swift, Cynthia Nixon, ironically, Woody Allen, and Martin Scorsese.
00:02:04.000Two city council members appeared in the document.
00:02:06.000It was originally supposed to list apparently only non primary residences, which again is bad.
00:02:12.000Okay, it would be bad if they had just done it the way they were supposed to by listing non primary residences.
00:02:16.000First of all, why is it your business?
00:02:43.000But it turns out that he's also bad at it because he also is targeting a bunch of people who actually are living in their apartments.
00:02:50.000Remember, pied de terre is supposed to be a second home tax.
00:02:53.000Instead, He listed a bunch of people who live in their homes, including, ironically, District 6 Democrat Gail Brewer, who said, I've been living in my place 365 days a year since 1994.
00:03:08.000Many of the homes included in the database appeared to be misaligned with a tax aimed at well heeled residences with multi million dollar vacation homes, including some two dozen modest homes on Chafee Avenue in working class Throg's Neck in the Bronx.
00:03:22.000And those home values are not a million dollars plus, those are like 500 grand to 800 grand.
00:03:41.000The idea is you are not protected if you're in New York.
00:03:44.000In fact, we are going to put out your name and address.
00:03:47.000If you're famous and rich and you own a place, you either have to pay additional security and unofficial tax just to keep your home safe now, or you should sell and go.
00:03:57.000Now, that is not going to alleviate the housing problem, as we'll talk about in a second.
00:04:00.000All of the commie solutions that are being proposed by Mandani are not about actual solutions.
00:04:05.000They're about destroying the system from within.
00:04:07.000Because if you force all these people to sell, that actually leads to a decline in the prices of the homes.
00:04:14.000And now, the decline in prices of homes sounds good at the beginning, but it turns out that when you have rent control and heavy building regulation, all that ends up happening is that no one is going to build a home ever again.
00:04:24.000Because if the only way that anybody could make a profit was to build a new home, and instead you're forcing the market down, what you are doing is removing all incentive for development.
00:04:35.000No one is going to build new houses or new apartment buildings in New York under Zarim Amdani.
00:04:39.000I know many, many, many investors at this point who are pulling their money from New York City as we speak.
00:04:46.000We're also talking about a massive decline in tax revenues.
00:04:48.000Here's the thing about that Piet Tier tax.
00:04:51.000The people who bought those places and are paying property tax already in New York City are not taking advantage of the services of New York City because they're not there full time.
00:04:59.000They are already tax positive for New York City.
00:05:57.000You've seen this in every communist country, all of them.
00:06:01.000In 1929, Stalin was unleashing the proletariat against the so called kulaks, the private homeowners and landowners.
00:06:10.000Mao in 1934 gave a speech in which he said, If we only mobilize the people to carry on the war and do nothing else, can we succeed in defeating the enemy?
00:06:50.000And out of 12 million hectares, what we want are about half of that, 5 million plus.
00:06:57.000And they, only 4,000 farmers, own 12 million hectares of the most fertile land in the country.
00:07:06.000Why can't they agree to 5 million plus coming our way?

00:10:26.000This is a fundamentally unfair system that hurts working New Yorkers.
00:10:33.000By the way, again, the list that he released is for everyone, supposedly, who owns an apartment above a million dollars, and it's below that.
00:12:28.000Is the suggestion in the United States that groceries, again, everything is too expensive, okay, because of inflation.
00:12:33.000But that does not mean that a government run grocery store that is designed, by the way, to be too expensive to undercut the food supply of New York, because that will be the predictable result of this.
00:12:51.000Here is Mom Dhani laying out his plan to undercut private sellers of groceries in New York City, which will have some pretty predictable results.
00:13:00.000Today, I am proud to announce a collection of essential staples that will be predictably 30% cheaper at all five of our city run grocery stores.
00:13:15.000This core set of goods will include all fresh produce, meat, and seafood, along with 20 other essential items like cheese, milk, and bread.
00:13:23.000Here's how it will work once a month, our five city run grocery stores will set prices for this core set of goods at 30% below typical retail prices.
00:13:34.000The savings will last for the entire month.
00:13:37.000That means no weekly fluctuations nor sticker shock at the checkout line.
00:13:41.000Not for our seniors living on fixed incomes, nor for the parents who rely on a regular supply of apple slices to keep toddler tantrums at bay.
00:13:51.000Okay, so first of all, these five grocery stores are slated to cost taxpayers $70 million.
00:13:58.000$70 million, which again is already up $10 million from Amdani said on the campaign trail.
00:14:04.000One store in East Harlem is slated to cost $30.
00:14:23.000This is taxpayers absorbing the cost for a thing they don't need to do in the first place.
00:14:27.000The store is spared from paying rent and property taxes, but the New York Post says the store is going to operate at a loss of at least $300,000 per year indefinitely.
00:14:36.000Listen, what Momdani is doing right here is not realistic, obviously.
00:14:38.000It's utopian and And really ugly, and it violates every basic principle of econ 101.
00:14:44.000He's not interested in saving money or efficiency.

00:15:30.000And then Mamdani went on to try to pretend he's doing the same thing that Mayor LaGuardia did decades ago.
00:15:40.000More than a century ago, Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia witnessed the food riots of 1917, led by immigrant mothers incensed with soaring food prices.
00:15:49.000Those mothers took to the streets to overturn push carts and eventually called for a boycott of marked up goods.
00:15:56.000Years later, when he became mayor, he spearheaded the creation of municipally owned markets to reduce the cost of groceries for those same immigrant mothers.
00:16:05.000He did so because he believed in a simple definition of the task of government to make people's lives better.
00:16:13.000Today, we are one step closer to fulfilling that fundamental responsibility.
00:16:21.000LaGuardia was trying to solve a problem.
00:16:23.000The problem was that there were vendors who were unsanitary on the streets, selling junk on the streets because there were no modern supermarkets yet.
00:16:32.000Again, the notion that America is deeply, deeply in trouble because of our grocery stores is nutty.
00:16:40.000So, one reporter asked a pretty simple question If you're worried about starvation, why not just give more money to the food programs?
00:16:46.000Because it turns out that nonprofits like the New York City Food Bank already run extremely extensive food pantry programs, delivering 86 million meals.
00:16:56.000So, why don't you just give them money?
00:16:58.000It's funded, by the way, not just by public charity, but donors like Stop and Shop Morgan Stanley, Bank of America, Delta Airlines, MetLife Foundation, Starbucks, Target, and Tropicana.
00:17:07.000So, why doesn't he just give the money to that?
00:17:08.000Well, the answer is again, the goal here is the destruction.
00:17:12.000He's not trying to build something, he's trying to destroy it.
00:17:17.000It sounds like what you're essentially offering these purveyors of grocery services is you cover the property tax, you build out the building, you cover any sort of recurring rent.
00:17:26.000But they have to bring in the food, discount it a certain amount, high quality of wages.
00:17:31.000I mean, these are millions of dollars effectively shuffling back and forth.
00:17:35.000So I'm wondering why not just spend these millions of dollars and give to agencies like the Campaign Against Hunger or City Harvest or, you know, just direct established food programs.
00:17:47.000We see in this city an opportunity to take an all of the above approach.
00:17:51.000We are going to continue to work with incredible partners like the ones that we're here with today, as well as ensure that food pantries across the five boroughs can flourish.
00:19:31.000The notion that Mamdani wants people to live better in New York is not true.
00:19:36.000He just wants class resentment and class warfare.
00:19:41.000And those Momdani grocery stores, unless you are expecting lines around the block for years on end, which is exactly, by the way, how communist grocery stores used to work.
00:19:48.000You would show up with a coupon and the food was free.
00:19:51.000You just had to wait in line for sometimes days on end to get what you wanted.
00:20:59.000He's going to stop the rents from increasing.
00:21:00.000Well, it turns out, according to the Wall Street Journal, a huge percentage of people who are in the rent stabilized apartments are wealthy.
00:21:13.000It turns out the top 25% of earners living in New York City rent stabilized apartments pay $1,000 less each month in median rent compared with market rate units.
00:21:24.000The top 10% of earners saved $1,300, a 36% discount.
00:21:29.000Meanwhile, if you're a rent stabilized tenant who doesn't earn as much money, you paid only about $300 less compared with the market rate.
00:21:37.000So it turns out that the rich people are taking advantage of the rent stabilization.
00:21:42.000Landlords used to be able, according to the Wall Street Journal, to convert their rent stabilized apartments to market rate if tenants who lived there made 200 grand for two years in a row.
00:22:09.000The more important a document is, the harder it is to understand.

00:24:19.000They do not believe, actually, that socialism is about freedom.
00:24:21.000So, Francesca Hong is a Wisconsin gubernatorial candidate, another one of these Democratic Socialists of America members, and she says it turns out that socialism is about freedom.
00:24:30.000This is not a widespread belief in the United States.
00:24:35.000I think the word socialism has become politicized, and the connection to it is about the people who have harmed others through socialism, as opposed to talking about what it is, which is a government that provides.
00:24:52.000The essential public goods and services to help people live the lives that they want to live.
00:24:59.000I think democratic socialism is actually more about freedom than any other form of government.
00:25:05.000And the scariness that surrounds the word really comes from the people who want to maintain the status quo.
00:25:12.000That is an S word we should be afraid of because it's been these types of systems and the people who uphold these systems who have led us here.
00:25:21.000So, a new playbook with some new plays and new players, I think, is very sensible.
00:25:26.000Another S word I would like more associated with the word democratic socialist.
00:25:43.000One is support for universal basic income.
00:25:46.000Only 32% of Americans total strongly or somewhat support universal basic income, the idea that the government ought to just give everybody a check.
00:26:06.000Now, again, when you get to the youngsters, the youngsters being dumb, 49% of them support UBI, as opposed to people over the age of 65, 18% of whom support UBI.
00:26:17.000Okay, how about whether people should have primary responsibility for helping other people or whether the government should do it?
00:26:24.000So Manhattan Institute offers some options.
00:26:27.000Who should have primary responsibility for helping people who can't help themselves?
00:26:31.000Government, family, and local community, churches, and private charities are not sure.
00:26:35.000It turns out a minority of Americans believe government should have the primary responsibility.
00:26:40.00025% believe families and local communities should be at the top of the heap.
00:26:46.000And as far as churches and private charities, 12% believe in that.
00:26:49.000Now, again, one of the things that the Manhattan Institute did not distinguish here is local versus, say, state and federal government.
00:26:57.000And again, it says primary responsibility, not total responsibility.
00:27:01.000How about the design of government assistance?
00:27:03.000It turns out the vast majority of Americans are not a fan of the idea that you should just receive a check for breathing.
00:27:09.000When asked, which comes closer to your view about how government assistance should work?
00:27:13.000Assistance should be targeted and focused on those who are truly unable to provide for themselves, or assistance should be universal.
00:27:19.000Even 54% of Democrats agree that assistance needs to be targeted.
00:27:24.000When asked, the main goal of government assistance programs?
00:27:27.000Is it making sure everyone has a basic minimum?
00:27:29.000Or is it about reducing the income gap?
00:27:32.000It turns out That everyone agrees it is about the basic minimum, and pretty much no one agrees it's about reducing the income gap.
00:27:40.000As far as which is the better way to help low income households provide benefits like food, housing, or health care that can only be used for those purposes or just give people cash, the answer it turns out is they want everything earmarked, the American people.
00:27:51.000And that's true across the political spectrum.
00:27:53.000They do not just want to give people cash.
00:27:56.000How about support for work requirements for, for example, supplemental nutrition assistance programs?
00:28:02.000Again, it turns out that among all voters, some 57% of voters agree with the idea that there should be some work requirements, including some 58% of independence.
00:28:21.000So, again, here's the thing communism, like Momdani style communism or democratic socialism, whatever they want to call it, is not all that popular.
00:28:28.000But here's the thing here's the thing that's not actually the Spoonful of sugar that makes the medicine go down.
00:28:35.000The communism, believe it or not, is the medicine.
00:28:37.000The spoonful of sugar that makes it go down with young people is the anti Americanism.
00:29:29.000It is the belief that America is deeply flawed and evil and discriminatory and rigged, and that America therefore deserves whatever it gets.
00:29:37.000That is a popular point of view, particularly with young people and with people who have been told by the left that they are marginalized victims of the system, the intersectional coalition.
00:29:46.000And if that group gets big enough, you can turn the city where 9 11 happened into a city run by a man who hangs out incessantly with people who celebrated 9 11, where the mayor of the city spits in the face of the families of the people who died on 9 11, which is exactly what is happening right now.
