00:00:00.000 You're listening to The Blueprint, Canada's Conservative Podcast.
00:00:08.960 Well, they thought they were going to have an easy day over there today, but not so fast, Mr. Speaker.
00:00:16.600 What is it going to take for the Prime Minister to have any respect for any laws in this country that may curb his out-of-control behaviour?
00:00:25.320 And now, here's your host.
00:00:31.260 Thanks very much for being here today. I'm so pleased to be here with so many local parents,
00:00:36.640 with whom I just had a great conversation about the costs and challenges of raising kids today.
00:00:42.460 Now, the arrival of a new child, whether the first, second, or fifth, is one of the milestones of life.
00:00:49.080 It's one of the greatest joys we can experience, a feeling every parent knows.
00:00:54.380 A new life brought into the world, a child, and a great responsibility now placed into the hands of some very proud parents.
00:01:03.160 And as these very proud parents from all walks of life know, it certainly has its costs.
00:01:09.960 It costs you a lot of sleep, of course.
00:01:11.260 Thank you.
00:01:28.980 It is at this time that Canadian parents deserve a repeat. 1.00
00:01:33.980 We have the chance in Canada to have the benefits of the
00:01:38.980 maternity and parental insurance insurance, which benefit
00:01:42.980 so many Canadians and Canadians.
00:01:46.980 But every Canadian who uses these benefits still pays
00:01:50.980 federal taxes on them.
00:01:53.980 And Canada's Conservatives don't think that's fair.
00:01:56.980 We believe that we should be putting people before government.
00:01:59.980 When so many parents give up a percentage of their take-home pay
00:02:03.980 to take those critical months off, they forego a lot of salary already.
00:02:09.980 And so the government should certainly not be taxing the time you take
00:02:13.980 to look after your new infant when you're already foregoing that income.
00:02:17.980 That's why I'm announcing today a private member's bill that I'll be
00:02:21.980 introducing that I'm calling the Supporting New Parents Act,
00:02:25.980 which will be coming to Parliament very soon.
00:02:28.980 This important bill will give Canadians on parental leave a break 0.93
00:02:32.980 by offering a tax credit for any income earned under the EI maternity
00:02:37.980 and EI parental programs.
00:02:40.980 This project will allow new parents more money in their portfolio
00:02:45.980 for the expenses related to the first year of their child.
00:02:50.980 A Canadian who, before going on EI earned around $50,000 per year,
00:02:54.980 would be eligible for a tax credit of around $4,000.
00:02:59.980 Les Québécois qui touchent des prestations au titre du régime québécois d'assurance parentale
00:03:06.980 seraient admissables à un crédit d'impôt d'un montant équivalent.
00:03:11.980 Justin Trudeau promised he would help young families, but he's let them down instead
00:03:17.980 by raising their taxes.
00:03:19.980 The average family is already paying more than $800 more in taxes every year.
00:03:24.980 L'annonce d'aujourd'hui fait partie des premières mesures de notre vision conservatrice positive pour le Canada.
00:03:33.980 Canada's Conservatives know that the government should be working for young parents like these with me today,
00:03:39.980 not the other way around.
00:04:02.980 That's what we stand for. That's what we believe in.
00:04:05.980 Thank you very much.
00:04:06.980 I'm very pleased that you joined with me here today to make this announcement.
00:04:09.980 Thank you.
