00:00:00.000 You are listening to The Blueprint, Canada's Conservative Podcast.
00:00:09.040 Is the Prime Minister actually saying that taxpayers should be on the hook when he breaks the law?
00:00:20.420 What is it going to take for the Prime Minister to have any respect for any laws in this country that may curb his out-of-control behaviour?
00:00:30.000 All these deficits leading to nothing but burying Canadians in taxes.
00:00:40.000 Dear colleague, dear friends, Canadian Conservatives, what a time to be home in Halifax.
00:00:46.000 What a wonderful place to host this convention.
00:00:49.000 And you know, our province has a reputation for hospitality.
00:00:52.000 I hope that everyone is having a chance to taste and feel and hear the wonders of this great province and this great region.
00:00:59.000 So a very warm welcome to the city of Halifax and to the province of Nova Scotia.
00:01:04.000 And tonight, tonight, yes, there are no strangers in the hall tonight, only friends we haven't met yet.
00:01:14.000 And so consider this like a family reunion with 3,000 of your relatives.
00:01:19.000 On second thought, just have fun tonight.
00:01:21.000 Halifax, as we know, is a historic, energized, diverse, vibrant city and just a wonderful place to be.
00:01:28.000 And there truly is so much to see here.
00:01:30.000 So grab a friend, grab a colleague, take a walk on the waterfront, go up to the Citadel, go to the public gardens.
00:01:37.000 You know, the pubs, the restaurants, the shops will be thriving.
00:01:41.000 And as we heard, everybody should be back in their room by at least 7 a.m. to be here on time for the plenaries.
00:01:48.000 And you know, there's evidence throughout this city of the positive difference that the Conservative government made during our decade of delivering results for Canada.
00:02:00.000 This convention centre itself, the new public library, money for universities, our designation of Pier 21 as Canada's Museum of Immigration,
00:02:14.000 massive investments in the Halifax shipyard.
00:02:17.000 And we, as a party, recognize this is home of Canada's East Coast Navy.
00:02:22.000 This is our biggest military base.
00:02:24.000 Let's give it up for all of the members of the Canadian Armed Forces here with us tonight and our veterans.
00:02:30.000 Let's give it up for all of the members of the Canadian Armed Forces.
00:02:58.000 To them, our veterans, our serving members, we say thank you.
00:03:01.000 Merci Ă  votre service.
00:03:03.000 We have a lot to celebrate.
00:03:04.000 We have a lot to celebrate as Conservatives.
00:03:06.000 Fresh off the big win by Premier of Ontario, Doug Ford.
00:03:11.000 With us last night, Bucket Beer is a very popular concept for Nova Scotia.
00:03:20.000 He will join, of course, Brian Pallister, Premier Pallister of Manitoba, Premier Scott Moe in Saskatchewan,
00:03:26.000 and soon-to-be premiers, Jason Kenney in Alberta, Blaine Higgs in New Brunswick, James Alward in PEI,
00:03:35.000 Jess Crosby in Newfoundland and Labrador.
00:03:38.000 We're going to elect a new Premier in Nova Scotia and the PC party here.
00:03:54.000 Quebec and BC seem ready for change.
00:03:57.000 The Conservative message of change is getting out there.
00:04:00.000 It's being heard loud and clear across the country.
00:04:03.000 And let's be clear, come October 2019, the big blue wave starts right here in Atlantic Canada.
00:04:10.000 And let's be clear as well, that's because Canadians can see themselves in our party.
00:04:25.000 Rural and urban, all regions, all religions, all orientations, all backgrounds.
00:04:31.000 Like Canada itself, Conservatives are diverse, inclusive, disciplined, strong and united.
00:04:38.000 And tonight...
00:04:45.000 And by the way, that little weather system that passed over here yesterday, it has gone.
00:04:50.000 That hurricane has left the building and we don't need another Trudeau karaoke around here anyway.
00:05:08.000 Tonight, folks, I'm deeply honoured to be introducing our Conservative leader and Canada's next Prime Minister, Andrew Scheer.
00:05:20.000 Andrew Scheer, it's a guaranteed applause line.
00:05:27.000 I had the opportunity to work closely with Andrew, first when we were in opposition in 2004, and of course later when we formed government in 2006.
00:05:43.000 What I immediately noticed about this man was his calm demeanour, his intelligent, thoughtful nature, his deep interest and understanding of the issues that matter most.
00:05:53.000 His work ethic, his determination, his decency make him truly suited for leadership.
00:05:59.000 And with Andrew as our leader, what you see is what you get, and you get a lot.
00:06:04.000 As a principled, smart, serious, caring Conservative, it seems that the worst that they can say about him is he smiles too much.
00:06:14.000 Andrew truly understands the struggles of the middle class because that's where Andrew came from.
00:06:18.000 That's where he and Jill and their family truly exemplify aspirations of those right across our great country.
00:06:27.000 You know, Andrew carries a checkbook. He doesn't have a trust fund.
00:06:30.000 And I'll tell you something.
00:06:41.000 Lisa referenced it.
00:06:42.000 Nazanin and I just welcomed our third child, Kaladin, to the family a few weeks ago.
00:06:46.000 Thank you.
00:06:51.000 And knowing that Andrew and Jill have five children, I mean, my respect just grows and grows.
00:06:57.000 He once told me, I remember talking to him about this, and he said, you know, having had so many kids at home during my time as Speaker,
00:07:07.000 it really helped me in presiding over those rowdy MPs in the House of Commons.
00:07:11.000 That's why Andrew knows all the regions of our country.
00:07:16.000 When he participated in the popular mission, which is held every Sunday night, everyone talks about it.
00:07:23.000 He demonstrates his understanding of the Québécois preocupations in French and how he will deal with
00:07:31.000 with who he will be the Premier Minister of Quebec this autumn, in the same way that he respects all the Premier Ministers of Canada.
00:07:42.000 And in addition to his love of family and country and the Conservative Party, Andrew loves sports, particularly Ryder Green.
00:07:51.000 He loves football. He loves football, but I know this as well, he wants to see the Atlantic Schooners finally sail into the Canadian Football League.
00:08:04.000 And you know, seriously, most importantly, Andrew has an unbroken, unwavering commitment to building a stronger, more prosperous, more productive Canada,
00:08:19.000 where everyone can reach their full potential.
00:08:22.000 Canadians are increasingly turning to the leadership of Andrew Scheer and our Conservative Party, and we all know why.
00:08:27.000 Because with a Conservative leadership, you get integrity, you get respect for taxpayers' money, you get respect for the rule of law,
00:08:36.000 you get respect for the true, ambitious strivers who are engines of the economy.
00:08:42.000 Andrew est juste, honnĂȘte, raisonnĂ©, pragmatique et respectueux des taxpayers et obtenir des rĂ©sultats.
00:08:50.000 Add to that straight talk, talk on the issues that matter, sensible talk about the economy,
00:08:56.000 the environment, ethics, trade, justice, national defence.
00:09:01.000 Most importantly, with Andrew, it's about results, not rhetoric.
00:09:14.000 And why is this so important?
00:09:16.000 I don't know about you, but I think Canadians cannot afford four more years of Justin Trudeau
00:09:21.000 and his free-spending, righteous band of social engineers.
00:09:34.000 Four more years of broken promises, tax hikes, mismanagement of a resource sector,
00:09:39.000 the continued bungling of critical global trading relationships.
00:09:43.000 But that should not be a surprise.
00:09:45.000 Because keep in mind, Justin believes government should be bigger, more intrusive.
00:09:50.000 Andrew believes in smaller government.
00:09:52.000 Justin believes that governments create jobs.
00:09:55.000 Andrew believes government creates the environment for businesses and entrepreneurs to create jobs.
00:10:01.000 Andrew believes that lower taxes are good.
00:10:12.000 Justin believes they should be higher still.
00:10:14.000 Andrew knows that the photo ops, self-aggrandisement, fancy socks and flowing locks
00:10:19.000 will not pay the bills for working Canadians.
00:10:32.000 And you know, Andrew also knows something important.
00:10:34.000 And this will serve him well in government.
00:10:36.000 He knows that true international diplomacy takes more than 140 characters
00:10:40.000 and shouldn't include emojis.
00:10:49.000 I'm also sure that Prime Minister Andrew Scheer will not, I repeat,
00:10:53.000 not holiday on private islands with billionaires at taxpayers' expense.
00:11:05.000 What Canada clearly needs, what our country needs,
00:11:07.000 is a Prime Minister who will step up and lead, not dress up and preach.
00:11:12.000 They need a Prime Minister.
00:11:17.000 They need a Prime Minister who's humble, who's relatable,
00:11:20.000 who's always going to put the country first.
00:11:22.000 Canada deserves a Prime Minister that will be respected and listened to
00:11:27.000 on the world stage by leaders.
00:11:29.000 And Andrew Scheer will be that Prime Minister.
00:11:32.000 And you know, I'm a local guy.
00:11:42.000 I recall that Andrew stood up for Atlantic Canada
00:11:45.000 when one of the first acts of the Liberal government
00:11:48.000 was to name an ACOA Minister from Ontario.
00:11:51.000 Great respect to my friends in Ontario.
00:11:53.000 He was the Prime Minister who wanted to take away a Supreme Court position
00:11:57.000 from this region.
00:11:58.000 He was the Prime Minister and his government that killed
00:12:01.000 the Energy East pipeline project.
00:12:07.000 And you know what?
00:12:08.000 Now they're threatening to take away work from the Irving shipyard.
00:12:10.000 And thankfully, Andrew, Lisa, Aaron, and members of our caucus
00:12:14.000 spoke up in defence of this region.
00:12:17.000 Thirty-two Liberal MPs, four Liberal provincial governments,
00:12:21.000 and what did we get?
00:12:22.000 The silence of the lambs.
00:12:24.000 Or as they say up home, yous be quiet.
00:12:26.000 The Prime Minister, Andrew Scheer,
00:12:31.000 a government that will strengthen the confidence in the government
00:12:36.000 by reducing taxes and creating an economic environment
00:12:42.000 where entrepreneurs will build the economy of the future.
00:12:47.000 I want all of our children living in a country with a real plan
00:12:53.000 to protect the environment and not simply a tax symbolical
00:12:57.000 to generate revenue.
00:12:59.000 He is a good chef with the competence and the good attitude
00:13:04.000 to help us win in 2019.
00:13:08.000 As inheritor of the Conservative Party that built this country,
00:13:12.000 in the vein of Sir John A. Macdonald, Robert Borden,
00:13:15.000 John Diefenbaker, Robert Stanfield, Brian Mulroney,
00:13:19.000 and Stephen Harper, Andrew Scheer will carry on the proud tradition
00:13:23.000 of nation-builders who put our nation first in all decisions
00:13:27.000 serving the interests of all Canadians.
00:13:30.000 If we work hard, if we are unnoted,
00:13:33.000 if we are unnoted,
00:13:37.000 Justin Trudeau will be a one-term Prime Minister,
00:13:41.000 and in Canada, in 2019,
00:13:44.000 Andrew Scheer will be the Prime Minister of our country.
