00:00:30.000 Hello everyone and welcome to you all.
00:00:43.280 Happy New Year just about.
00:00:45.200 It is December 30th, the anti-penultimate day of the year.
00:00:49.900 And this means that we have to wrap up some loose ends before we can head into 2023.
00:00:56.020 And one of them is a biggie.
00:00:58.400 We have to sift through 365 days.
00:01:01.980 Well, I guess, what, 363 days.
00:01:04.160 But we hope there's not going to be a big bombshell CBC first-person story about the racism of power tools or whatever in the next two days.
00:01:12.980 You never know.
00:01:13.420 But we have to sift through almost 365 days of fake news and find the very best that are befitting of the annual Fake News Awards, which has become very much a favorite of ours here at True North.
00:01:28.000 And also a favorite of those of you watching this show, as we know, because the Academy of Fake News is a democratic institution.
00:01:35.940 We don't just decide this as some autocratic Emergencies Act-esque dictatorship.
00:01:41.060 No, what we do is put it out to the people to decide what the best of our fake news stories of the year are.
00:01:49.380 We have a top 10 list, and we are going to do the countdown right up till number one.
00:01:55.280 And our number one fake news story this year actually is something I'm not going to tell you until we get there, because that's how a countdown works.
00:02:02.640 So, oh my goodness, I just did real-time clickbait.
00:02:05.580 Anyway, I'm Andrew Lawton, joined, as always, by Harrison Faulkner.
00:02:09.760 And we have a doozy to get us started here.
00:02:12.640 What was number 10 this year, Harrison?
00:02:14.200 So, we talked about this just a couple weeks ago.
00:02:16.540 This was A Mask.
00:02:18.340 This was an article written by A Mask.
00:02:21.380 Get it, Andrew?
00:02:22.300 You see what they're trying to do there, right?
00:02:23.660 Very clever stuff.
00:02:24.780 Very, I mean, just the height of journalism.
00:02:28.120 Pulitzer-worthy quality writing here.
00:02:30.620 So, it's written by A Mask to talk about some, you know, talk about the love lost between a mask and its partner.
00:02:38.140 That being us.
00:02:39.280 Very cringeworthy stuff.
00:02:40.560 I mean, just to read you a quick excerpt from the article.
00:02:43.560 It starts off with this, Andrew.
00:02:45.140 It's me, your mask.
00:02:46.580 I'm here in between the cushions of your couch.
00:02:48.660 Or maybe I'm under the bed.
00:02:50.020 It's difficult to tell.
00:02:50.940 It's so dark.
00:02:51.840 I just want to know what happened.
00:02:52.900 Where did our love go?
00:02:54.380 So, there you can see.
00:02:55.060 This is from the Ottawa Citizen.
00:02:57.520 They tried to get their fake news story up the ranks.
00:03:02.000 They come in at number 10.
00:03:03.120 So, all things considered, with the number of fake news you have to deal with, Andrew, this year,
00:03:06.680 number 10 is not bad for the Ottawa Citizen.
00:03:09.380 Yeah, and I mean, having been around some people in the last few weeks, since this article was written,
00:03:14.200 I don't think many people read or at least heeded Mr. or Mrs. A Mask's work,
00:03:20.140 because there still is a fair bit of masklessness out there.
00:03:23.040 But, you know, so it's just like a Heather Malick column, really.
00:03:25.200 You can write it, but no one actually reads it or listens to it.
00:03:27.900 Okay, let's move along to number 9 here, which is a bit of a big one,
00:03:32.280 and one I suspect will escalate a little bit into 2023.
00:03:36.880 Journalists raising issues with mean tweets.
00:03:40.580 Now, the Canadian Association of Journalists has done this campaign.
00:03:44.900 They've talked about how there's a, quote,
00:03:46.820 coordinated campaign of hate against female journalists, mostly, quote, of color.
00:03:51.500 The president of the CAJ said to CTV News,
00:03:54.780 this is an organized campaign to threaten and intimidate journalists into silence
00:03:59.180 and undermine the freedom of the press in Canada.
00:04:01.720 And this was, of course, written about by some of those journalists, evidently, from CTV News.
00:04:07.080 Now, when we talked about this in the past,
00:04:09.100 I said I don't want to diminish the nastiness that is leveled towards some journalists on Twitter.
00:04:14.500 I see it directed at some.
00:04:16.060 I also see it directed at me.
00:04:17.440 There is just, in general, a fair bit of nastiness on Twitter directed to anyone who sticks their neck out for anything,
00:04:23.560 whether it's in politics and media, and I don't think it's right.
00:04:27.540 But I also don't think this victim complex has really been doing anyone any favors,
00:04:32.140 because you've got some people that just say,
00:04:34.300 I'm going to ignore it, I'm going to block it, I'm going to move on.
00:04:37.140 And then you get other people that seem to really revel in it,
00:04:40.740 and that only fuels it, because people see they're getting a reaction.
00:04:43.920 That doesn't make it right, but it's just what happens.
00:04:46.180 Well, no, exactly, and this is just so transparent.
00:04:49.120 It's all about trying to demonize the convoy.
00:04:51.700 It's another level of demonizing the Freedom Convoy.
00:04:53.980 Yeah, we can say mean tweets are bad, nasty things online are not great.
00:04:58.320 No one wants to do that, no one wants to see that.
00:05:00.600 But when the CAJ, who, like I said, they purport to stand up for journalists,
00:05:05.380 but they rarely ever stand up for independent journalists.
00:05:07.480 They're only really there for mainstream journalists.
00:05:09.600 But the CAJ says that from the Freedom Convoy,
00:05:12.620 it's a coordinated campaign of hate,
00:05:15.560 specifically targeting female journalists of color.
00:05:18.100 I mean, this is just another recycled version of Freedom Convoy bad,
00:05:22.620 the rest good.
00:05:23.760 This is just another classic example of what they're trying to do, Andrew.
00:05:26.340 And I think a lot of Canadians see right through it.
00:05:28.560 No wonder it got its way on our top 10 list.
00:05:32.320 Yeah, number nine, not exactly winning, but still in the running.
00:05:36.700 Still a nominee and finalist on the short list, so to speak.
00:05:40.020 And as I said, though, I think this story is not yet over.
00:05:43.780 I think there's probably going to be another similar version of this in the 2023 list.
00:05:48.980 So all I can say to people is to stay tuned.
00:05:52.420 Number eight, I know it's your turn, but can I do this one?
00:05:55.120 Oh, no, I was going to give the floor to you.
00:05:57.100 So, Andrew, it's all yours.
00:05:58.280 Go ahead with it.
00:05:59.640 So I am the, I forget the name, actually.
00:06:02.460 There's like an ologist or whatever for someone who does crosswords,
00:06:05.760 which I should know because that sounds like the type of thing
00:06:07.800 that would be in a crossword.
00:06:08.900 But this is a one that is near and dear to my heart
00:06:12.200 as the token crossword doer of True North.
00:06:15.920 Crossword puzzles, CBC says, are not inclusive enough.
00:06:20.480 Crossword puzzles are everywhere,
00:06:21.760 but how inclusive are the bylines and the clues?
00:06:25.580 Okay, so CBC's issue here in the author's perspective
00:06:31.780 is that too many white people are making crosswords
00:06:34.580 and the clues themselves even are only representing straight white men.
00:06:40.280 So if you look at a crossword,
00:06:42.400 you're not going to find anything about anything that's not white.
00:06:45.220 So when you look in and it tells you,
00:06:47.140 oh, you know, one across is a, you know,
00:06:51.820 an alternative to butter that's margarine,
00:06:53.740 that's actually not inclusive.
00:06:54.940 Or when, you know, four down is saying actor Tom Blank
00:07:00.320 and you put in Cruz,
00:07:02.140 well, that actually is just a cis-normative,
00:07:05.100 heteronormative, white supremacist trope
00:07:07.280 because Tom Cruise is a straight white male actor
00:07:10.300 and this is all you get.
00:07:12.040 So you need to do like, you know,
00:07:14.080 Marvel movie Blank Panther,
00:07:16.200 which has been in crosswords actually.
00:07:18.560 So I don't know how we can say they're not inclusive enough.
00:07:20.560 It's just, if you're looking for something,
00:07:22.620 you're going to find it here.
00:07:23.740 But this one was like going after crossword puzzles
00:07:27.460 and the people that do them
00:07:28.880 and the people that write them.
00:07:30.360 And then like, just you fast forward a few weeks later
00:07:33.480 and there was this controversy
00:07:35.240 where the New York Times crossword
00:07:36.860 on the first day of Hanukkah
00:07:38.420 had this design on your screen there,
00:07:41.680 which looks a lot like a swastika.
00:07:44.580 So maybe this CBC article was onto something.
00:07:47.780 You know, when you read this,
00:07:49.480 so this is our eighth place story
00:07:51.680 and the seventh place story coming up after it, Andrew,
00:07:54.400 you read these two stories
00:07:55.740 and you think to yourself,
00:07:56.880 now not even the Babylon Bee would come up with this.
00:07:59.780 Or when they saw the headlines in the CBC,
00:08:02.280 when they saw the headline in the next story,
00:08:04.300 they must have thought to themselves,
00:08:05.280 wow, we really have to step up our game, guys.
00:08:06.960 Because, I mean, reality is sort of picking up
00:08:10.840 and taking over parody at this point.
00:08:13.560 Crosswords aren't diverse enough.
00:08:15.560 The people who design the crosswords aren't diverse enough.
00:08:19.520 I mean, where do you come up with this stuff?
00:08:21.460 It truly is, could only be the product of the CBC.
00:08:25.200 Just incredible stuff.
00:08:26.740 I mean, I'm surprised it only came in at eighth place, Andrew.
00:08:30.660 I thought maybe this one was going to make a bit of a run
00:08:32.580 closer to the top of the charts.
00:08:34.480 But hey, I mean, like I said,
00:08:35.800 I said this before with the last story.
00:08:37.680 We're talking about top 10 examples of fake news
00:08:40.440 in Canada throughout 2022.
00:08:41.820 There are probably 100 examples of fake news.
00:08:45.580 So you've got to think to yourself,
00:08:46.500 to make it in the top 10,
00:08:47.580 this is the upper echelons.
00:08:49.520 This is sort of the elite level of fake journalism,
00:08:52.660 fake news in this country.
00:08:53.740 So again, eighth place, not bad.
00:08:56.180 Yeah, this isn't a recap of every story.
00:08:58.220 This is only the top 10.
00:08:59.380 Remember, we do probably three or four stories a week,
00:09:01.580 52 weeks of the year.
00:09:02.580 Maybe we skip a couple for holidays.
00:09:04.160 So there were like 150 stories at a minimum
00:09:07.580 that we had to go through here.
00:09:09.360 And it's only the creme to the creme of the creme.
00:09:12.740 I was going to say the creme of the crop.
00:09:14.040 I was going to do a mixed metaphor thing.
00:09:15.840 The creme de la creme, the cream of the crop,
00:09:17.960 the cat's pajamas out of the cat's...
00:09:20.100 No, the cat's meow.
00:09:21.380 See, I'm mixing metaphors left, right, and center.
00:09:23.340 I'm about to secure the number four spot
00:09:25.120 on the list or something.
00:09:26.500 So let's move on from crosswords.
00:09:28.580 Although with the swastika one of the New York Times,
00:09:31.120 I will say crosswords are on notice.
00:09:33.420 You guys can't pull any of this nonsense anymore
00:09:35.360 or I'll have to eat a bit of crow.
00:09:37.220 There we go.
00:09:37.600 I got a metaphor right.
00:09:39.360 Let's go on to number seven.
00:09:40.780 What do we have?
00:09:41.560 Well, for number seven,
00:09:42.400 we are going to the Washington Post.
00:09:45.500 We're kind of expanding our borders here.
00:09:47.960 But this story, I have to say,
00:09:48.900 it did get picked up in the CBC,
00:09:50.260 so it kind of counts.
00:09:51.560 Shark Week, Andrew,
00:09:52.340 that famous Discovery Channel programming
00:09:55.360 during Shark Week
00:09:56.340 where I guess you watch a lot of TV about sharks.
00:09:59.280 No kidding?
00:10:00.180 Could you guess?
00:10:01.360 That the problem with Shark Week, Andrew,
00:10:02.760 is not that there's...
00:10:03.800 You know, it's not biodiverse enough.
00:10:06.320 We're not talking about only sharks.
00:10:08.340 No, no.
00:10:09.060 It's the fact that the people are too white.
00:10:11.740 There's too many men named Mike.
00:10:13.700 And it's too focused on...
00:10:15.600 What is it?
00:10:16.280 It's too negative about sharks.
00:10:18.380 Truly incredible stuff.
00:10:19.700 So the Washington Post deployed a team of researchers,
00:10:22.600 as they usually do.
00:10:23.460 They're not busy doing journalism.
00:10:25.020 So they deployed a team of journalists
00:10:26.700 to uncover a startling revelation
00:10:29.380 that apparently in Shark Week,
00:10:31.400 this Discovery Channel program,
00:10:33.320 there's too many white guys named Mike
00:10:35.180 who talk about marine biology.
00:10:37.780 And no kidding,
00:10:39.200 the description of sharks is too negative.
00:10:42.460 We have to try to paint these sharks, Andrew,
00:10:44.260 as lovely creatures of the sea.
00:10:47.620 Things you could go swimming with
00:10:49.040 and things you could, you know,
00:10:50.100 have a fun little swim beside.
00:10:52.720 Not like they'll eat you in the ocean
00:10:54.520 if you look like good food.
00:10:57.760 Again, this, just like the crossword puzzle story,
00:11:01.140 is truly better than what Babylon Bee could come up with.
00:11:05.320 It is better than Babylon Bee, Onion, whatever.
00:11:08.580 Insert parody account here.
00:11:10.040 It's better than that.
00:11:10.960 It is unbelievable stuff.
00:11:12.800 Again, seventh place,
00:11:14.400 pretty solid showing for the Washington Post.
00:11:16.340 Yeah, I mean, I remember we did a little thing
00:11:19.640 a few weeks ago
00:11:20.760 where I tried to get one of those AI chatbot generator things
00:11:25.120 to generate a fake news story.
00:11:27.120 And I had it give me a column
00:11:29.620 in the style of the Toronto Star
00:11:30.980 about why power tools are racist.
00:11:32.560 That was the reference at the beginning of the show.
00:11:34.820 And then at a certain point,
00:11:36.160 I'm like, I don't think I could have come up
00:11:37.900 with a prompt bizarre enough
00:11:40.100 to meet the reality of this whole story
00:11:43.100 about Shark Week not being diverse enough.
00:11:45.240 Because I was thinking like,
00:11:46.340 what's some absurd juxtaposition I could frame
00:11:49.500 to get a made-up column
00:11:51.040 about something being racist?
00:11:52.100 And I wouldn't have even thought,
00:11:53.340 you know, shark work is not diverse.
00:11:55.000 I wouldn't have even thought of that.
00:11:56.140 So at a certain point,
00:11:56.980 the reality is more ridiculous
00:11:58.880 than what could pass as satire
00:12:01.340 or even like AI nonsense.
00:12:03.820 So the whole thing about the guys named Mike
00:12:07.040 is a bit of an amusing observation.
00:12:09.040 But they're trying to say,
00:12:10.660 is there enough representation?
00:12:12.120 My question is,
00:12:12.920 is the representation of marine biologists
00:12:16.000 an accurate reflection of the marine biology community?
00:12:18.880 Because if the marine biology community
00:12:20.960 is overwhelmingly white and male,
00:12:23.440 then any sampling of marine biologists you interview
00:12:26.800 is also going to be.
00:12:27.880 But that's not a journalism problem.
00:12:29.640 That's not a media problem.
00:12:31.180 That's just the facts of biology
00:12:33.500 and marine biology in particular.
00:12:35.640 Well, we all know, Andrew,
00:12:36.700 that that sort of diversity,
00:12:39.060 the diversity that is accurate
00:12:40.500 of a particular group
00:12:41.940 is not really what we're going for these days.
00:12:43.580 It's not really,
00:12:44.140 it's not really in fashion in 2022,
00:12:45.920 is it?
00:12:46.520 It won't be in 2023.
00:12:47.980 It's all about trying to,
00:12:49.600 you know,
00:12:50.320 apply diversity standards
00:12:51.820 that aren't representative
00:12:53.040 to all of these different areas.
00:12:55.200 One thing I did find funny
00:12:56.240 about this Shark Week story
00:12:57.620 was that the story about Shark Week being too white,
00:13:00.280 the study,
00:13:01.040 was headed by a woman named Lisa Whitenack,
00:13:04.540 which I just had a little,
00:13:05.840 I thought was a little amusing to me,
00:13:08.300 given that, you know,
00:13:08.860 we're talking too negatively
00:13:09.860 about great white sharks.
00:13:11.280 We're talking too,
00:13:12.300 we're promoting too many mics,
00:13:13.920 too many white guys.
00:13:15.100 Okay, Lisa Whitenack,
00:13:16.220 thanks for that wonderful piece
00:13:17.740 of scientific research.
00:13:20.960 Yeah, if they put her in a crossword,
00:13:22.660 that would not be diverse enough.
00:13:24.440 But that is the number seven entry.
00:13:27.240 We move along to number six.
00:13:29.200 Now, we're getting into
00:13:29.780 some heavier terrain here.
00:13:31.740 But as we've noticed
00:13:33.340 in the last few years,
00:13:35.480 everything there is possibly
00:13:37.740 going to be in journalism
00:13:38.960 has to have a COVID angle
00:13:40.460 or a vaccine angle in some way.
00:13:42.640 It just seems to be
00:13:43.340 the way of the world,
00:13:44.220 the way that researchers
00:13:45.200 are taking their cues.
00:13:47.400 And this particular one
00:13:48.620 from the Washington Post,
00:13:49.920 regular exercise may improve
00:13:51.820 the effectiveness
00:13:52.600 of coronavirus vaccines.
00:13:55.200 They talked about the fact
00:13:56.840 that exercisers who were vaccinated
00:13:58.800 were 25% less likely
00:14:00.420 to be hospitalized with COVID
00:14:01.780 than sedentary people
00:14:03.340 who received the same vaccine.
00:14:04.700 But the studies didn't look
00:14:06.700 at whether active people
00:14:07.940 gain additional benefits
00:14:09.500 from their coronavirus
00:14:10.720 shots and boosters.
00:14:12.060 So it was the epitome
00:14:13.640 of the media taking a correlation
00:14:15.860 that even the researchers
00:14:17.560 were not saying was causation,
00:14:20.040 which is like,
00:14:21.160 you know,
00:14:21.440 university level 101 here
00:14:23.740 about correlation
00:14:25.140 doesn't equal causation.
00:14:26.560 But evidently,
00:14:27.260 the Washington Post
00:14:27.900 didn't get that memo.
00:14:29.360 I mean,
00:14:29.620 I don't think they were
00:14:30.140 really looking for that.
00:14:31.220 Of course,
00:14:31.540 what they were trying to do
00:14:32.340 is find a way
00:14:33.500 to promote the shot
00:14:35.440 and do whatever they could
00:14:38.080 to make that the case.
00:14:39.680 Oh, who could have guessed,
00:14:40.580 Andrew,
00:14:40.800 that exercise,
00:14:43.000 whether you have the shot
00:14:44.360 or not,
00:14:45.060 actually is better for you.
00:14:46.360 It's like,
00:14:47.120 okay,
00:14:47.380 we really needed
00:14:48.120 a Washington Post article
00:14:49.300 to try and spin it
00:14:50.120 about the shot
00:14:50.700 to come to the conclusion
00:14:51.580 that exercise is good
00:14:52.660 and being sedentary is not.
00:14:54.540 I mean,
00:14:55.080 this is just classic example
00:14:56.380 of journalists digging
00:14:58.880 and reaching.
00:15:00.080 It's when there's two,
00:15:00.820 it's when there's like,
00:15:01.980 the impetus on them
00:15:03.500 to write X number
00:15:04.620 of articles a day
00:15:05.540 becomes sort of
00:15:07.300 the reality for them.
00:15:08.340 They go,
00:15:08.800 oh,
00:15:08.900 we have to come up
00:15:09.500 with a story tonight
00:15:10.280 or otherwise,
00:15:11.020 we haven't reached
00:15:11.820 our quota for stories.
00:15:12.780 My deadline's at six
00:15:13.780 and I haven't done anything yet.
00:15:15.660 We got to quickly
00:15:16.460 put something together
00:15:17.260 and whip it up
00:15:18.040 so we find this study
00:15:18.940 and find a way
00:15:20.120 to make our editors
00:15:20.940 very proud
00:15:21.540 by making it
00:15:22.660 an angle about the shot.
00:15:24.040 I mean,
00:15:24.180 it's just classic,
00:15:25.520 classic legacy media
00:15:27.720 and Washington Post
00:15:28.780 getting in twice
00:15:29.920 on the top 10 list
00:15:30.880 for Fake News Friday.
00:15:31.880 I mean,
00:15:32.580 goodness gracious,
00:15:33.380 that deserves a round
00:15:34.000 of applause
00:15:34.380 for them alone.
00:15:35.800 Well,
00:15:36.260 we haven't even gotten
00:15:37.040 to the top half now.
00:15:38.180 We are at the midway point
00:15:39.540 through the top 10 list.
00:15:41.360 Who knows
00:15:42.000 who lurks
00:15:42.860 on the other side
00:15:43.940 of it here,
00:15:44.500 but we do go
00:15:45.560 to Global
00:15:46.600 for number five.
00:15:48.620 So the Washington Post
00:15:49.520 gets a bit of a reprieve here.
00:15:51.820 Harrison,
00:15:52.320 this was a big one
00:15:53.340 in your wheelhouse.
00:15:54.200 Take it away.
00:15:55.040 Yeah,
00:15:55.340 so you know,
00:15:55.900 Truth and Reconciliation Day.
00:15:57.420 The first day,
00:15:58.340 the first year we had it,
00:15:59.920 it was Trudeau's
00:16:00.580 National Surfing Day vacation.
00:16:02.920 So that was sort of
00:16:03.640 setting the tone
00:16:04.300 for how we should all feel
00:16:05.800 about Truth and Reconciliation Day.
00:16:07.680 This year,
00:16:08.240 however,
00:16:08.920 we got an even more
00:16:10.000 somber,
00:16:10.940 reflective opportunity
00:16:11.940 when Global News
00:16:13.900 highlighted drag artists
00:16:16.360 called Indigiqueer
00:16:18.860 drag artists
00:16:20.080 to celebrate
00:16:21.260 Truth and Reconciliation Day.
00:16:22.520 Just in case
00:16:23.040 any of us were,
00:16:24.460 you know,
00:16:24.820 feeling like
00:16:25.380 we didn't get the most
00:16:26.820 out of it last year
00:16:27.620 when our Prime Minister
00:16:28.220 went surfing.
00:16:29.180 This year,
00:16:29.940 we know we got the most
00:16:30.860 out of it.
00:16:31.200 We know we had the most
00:16:32.040 reflective and somber day
00:16:33.980 when Indigiqueer
00:16:35.640 drag artists
00:16:36.660 Ella Lamoureux
00:16:38.320 and Rez Daddy
00:16:40.340 did their
00:16:41.700 drag queen dancing
00:16:43.640 for Truth and Reconciliation Day.
00:16:47.180 Just incredible stuff.
00:16:49.160 No real sort of
00:16:50.600 journalism going on here
00:16:51.800 from Global News
00:16:52.440 to say,
00:16:52.780 wait a second,
00:16:53.340 how does this exactly
00:16:54.320 benefit
00:16:55.900 those who are
00:16:57.280 survivors,
00:16:58.380 those who have been
00:16:59.260 impacted by
00:17:00.040 residential schools?
00:17:01.700 No, no,
00:17:02.040 it wasn't about that.
00:17:02.960 It was just sort of,
00:17:03.920 hey,
00:17:04.140 how can we tack on
00:17:05.320 the message?
00:17:06.300 How can we tack on
00:17:07.500 the sort of
00:17:08.700 the woke message du jour
00:17:10.000 to this Truth and
00:17:11.260 Reconciliation Day?
00:17:12.160 Oh, I know the best
00:17:12.940 way to do it.
00:17:13.700 Let's combine drag queens
00:17:15.200 and let's combine
00:17:16.420 Truth and Reconciliation Day.
00:17:17.680 I'm sure no one
00:17:18.900 was offended
00:17:19.400 by that performance.
00:17:21.260 Just an absolutely
00:17:22.040 ridiculous thing
00:17:22.920 for Global News
00:17:23.560 to write.
00:17:24.300 And no criticism
00:17:25.460 either, Andrew.
00:17:26.100 No one said,
00:17:26.940 hey, wait,
00:17:27.520 how does this sort of,
00:17:28.540 how does this advance
00:17:29.320 Truth and Reconciliation?
00:17:30.500 Does it do anything
00:17:31.420 at all to advance it?
00:17:32.560 Or does it actually
00:17:33.260 just sort of mock it
00:17:34.220 and make it look ridiculous?
00:17:35.920 Again,
00:17:36.320 what a surprise.
00:17:36.940 Didn't come from
00:17:37.460 Global,
00:17:38.000 none of those questions
00:17:38.960 came from Global News,
00:17:39.880 but the journalism
00:17:40.760 itself did.
00:17:41.640 That's why they're
00:17:42.060 on the list.
00:17:43.200 Yeah, when Justin Trudeau
00:17:44.640 on the first National Day
00:17:46.240 for Truth and Reconciliation
00:17:47.260 went out surfing
00:17:48.120 in Tofino,
00:17:48.880 one of the big criticisms
00:17:50.440 was that it wasn't
00:17:51.500 spent in somber reflection
00:17:53.100 and he wasn't talking
00:17:54.660 to Indigenous leaders.
00:17:56.400 But again,
00:17:57.120 I also don't think
00:17:57.840 that going to
00:17:58.400 an Indigiqueer drag show
00:17:59.800 would have constituted
00:18:00.820 somber reflection
00:18:01.700 or talking to
00:18:03.020 Indigenous leaders.
00:18:03.840 I mean,
00:18:04.020 in one sense,
00:18:04.580 yes,
00:18:04.840 it's members
00:18:05.800 of the community,
00:18:06.920 but I don't see
00:18:08.120 how this helps
00:18:08.960 anyone atone
00:18:09.940 for residential schools
00:18:11.140 when they see
00:18:12.020 Rez Daddy
00:18:13.280 and Ella Lamoureux
00:18:14.880 grinding on stage.
00:18:16.420 Again,
00:18:16.800 I could be wrong.
00:18:17.600 I haven't read
00:18:18.160 the TRC report
00:18:19.620 in a while,
00:18:20.180 but I don't think
00:18:21.100 that helps us
00:18:21.880 with reconciliation.
00:18:23.220 No, exactly.
00:18:23.840 It might have been
00:18:24.280 tacked onto the back
00:18:25.080 of the report.
00:18:25.660 It might have been
00:18:25.980 one of the last
00:18:26.620 recommendations.
00:18:27.380 You know,
00:18:27.520 you got to throw in
00:18:28.060 a couple of Rez Daddy
00:18:29.880 drag queen shows,
00:18:32.640 but I didn't catch
00:18:33.740 that as well,
00:18:34.320 Andrew,
00:18:34.720 and it's just
00:18:35.180 another example,
00:18:36.120 like you said,
00:18:36.680 like,
00:18:37.100 how do we take this,
00:18:38.020 how do we take
00:18:38.700 this idea
00:18:39.580 that I think
00:18:40.380 was sort of created
00:18:41.440 with good intentions
00:18:43.840 in mind
00:18:44.280 to have a day
00:18:45.300 where Canada
00:18:46.100 can actually reflect
00:18:47.140 on things
00:18:47.760 that did go horribly wrong,
00:18:49.640 how do we take that
00:18:50.780 and just completely
00:18:51.460 denigrate it?
00:18:52.340 You go surfing
00:18:53.160 on the first day
00:18:53.960 and then you put up
00:18:55.080 these sort of,
00:18:55.760 these sort of bizarre,
00:18:58.320 very strange,
00:18:59.800 weird performances
00:19:01.220 the next day,
00:19:02.780 the next year.
00:19:03.460 It's embarrassing,
00:19:05.240 it's sad,
00:19:05.700 and I think
00:19:06.000 they've really
00:19:06.360 sort of set the bar
00:19:07.200 very low for
00:19:08.560 what's going to be
00:19:10.200 hopefully something
00:19:11.220 that I think
00:19:11.660 keeps going on,
00:19:12.360 but it's just ridiculous.
00:19:14.300 You know,
00:19:14.860 one thing I noticed,
00:19:15.680 we have not had
00:19:16.480 a lot of,
00:19:17.080 actually we haven't
00:19:17.600 had any Trudeau content
00:19:19.000 really on the list
00:19:20.840 so far.
00:19:21.660 I guess all of the voters
00:19:22.920 thought that he deserved
00:19:23.860 to be in the upper echelons
00:19:25.180 of the top 10 list
00:19:26.880 because we are now
00:19:27.560 down to number four.
00:19:29.580 So we're getting
00:19:30.060 to the final three here,
00:19:31.300 getting to the big
00:19:32.420 fake news story
00:19:33.240 of the year.
00:19:34.200 And number four
00:19:35.180 is a story
00:19:36.260 that is a bit worldly
00:19:37.300 in nature.
00:19:38.120 You may remember
00:19:38.800 when Justin Trudeau
00:19:40.560 went to Her Majesty
00:19:42.160 the Queen's funeral
00:19:43.660 in London,
00:19:44.700 he decided that
00:19:45.600 it was an opportunity
00:19:46.400 for a bit of his own
00:19:47.820 form of entertainment.
00:19:49.200 And yes,
00:20:04.020 by the way,
00:20:04.460 that is real life.
00:20:05.820 That's not fantasy.
00:20:07.600 That is what we're caught in
00:20:09.020 and I'd rather be
00:20:09.680 in a landslide.
00:20:10.540 That was Justin Trudeau
00:20:12.020 singing the Queen song,
00:20:14.280 although other Queen,
00:20:15.480 Bohemian Rhapsody.
00:20:16.800 Well,
00:20:17.500 in the bar
00:20:18.480 of the Savoy,
00:20:19.960 I believe it was,
00:20:20.680 in London
00:20:21.140 and doing this well,
00:20:23.260 spending ridiculous amounts
00:20:24.840 of money we learned
00:20:25.560 on this overseas
00:20:26.860 funeral trip
00:20:27.800 for the Canadian delegation.
00:20:29.260 And it was an award-winning
00:20:30.620 pianist on the piano.
00:20:32.340 Great.
00:20:32.700 That doesn't change
00:20:33.700 the fact that it was
00:20:34.580 a time and place situation.
00:20:36.180 And this was mocked
00:20:37.320 around the world
00:20:38.020 by the press,
00:20:38.860 especially in Britain.
00:20:40.020 But the Canadian media
00:20:41.440 took a very different view
00:20:43.520 of these things.
00:20:44.540 And there were
00:20:45.400 a few examples here.
00:20:46.780 Global just reported it
00:20:48.200 and played it a bit straight.
00:20:49.740 But they fact-checked
00:20:50.960 the person who quoted it
00:20:52.420 oddly and started
00:20:53.540 trying to correct,
00:20:54.340 well, it wasn't this hotel
00:20:55.840 and it, you know,
00:20:56.640 it was not in D minor.
00:20:58.120 It was like,
00:20:58.580 it was just ridiculous
00:20:59.480 sort of stuff.
00:21:00.520 But then the best one
00:21:02.360 was CP24,
00:21:04.060 which said,
00:21:05.280 P.M. Trudeau
00:21:06.180 sings Queen's
00:21:07.280 classic ballad,
00:21:08.260 Bohemian Rhapsody,
00:21:09.460 in tribute
00:21:10.280 to late Queen Elizabeth II.
00:21:13.020 So they said that
00:21:14.120 this was actually done
00:21:15.360 for the Queen,
00:21:16.500 which even Justin Trudeau
00:21:17.500 didn't say.
00:21:18.080 So some of the media
00:21:19.320 were actually out there
00:21:20.400 doing their own spin
00:21:21.640 just to soften the blow
00:21:23.200 of this global embarrassment.
00:21:24.900 I mean,
00:21:25.140 it takes a lot of courage,
00:21:28.080 I think,
00:21:28.640 to be that person
00:21:30.500 in the CP24
00:21:31.620 and think to yourself,
00:21:33.000 oh, how are we going
00:21:33.900 to do this?
00:21:34.500 I'm just going to throw in
00:21:35.440 that little in-tribute line
00:21:36.760 and we're just going
00:21:37.520 to get away with this.
00:21:38.220 I'm sure that there were
00:21:39.180 lots of applause,
00:21:40.620 lots of thanks
00:21:42.140 coming from the Trudeau team
00:21:43.920 when that article came out,
00:21:45.080 but even the CTV article
00:21:46.840 on this,
00:21:47.720 classic, right, Andrew?
00:21:49.020 It's a total sort of
00:21:50.320 sound barrier
00:21:51.240 from the Canadian legacy media
00:21:52.560 to the rest of the world.
00:21:53.620 The rest of the world
00:21:54.380 just mocking him for it.
00:21:55.700 I'm pretty sure CNN
00:21:56.720 had stories that were negative.
00:21:58.280 I mean,
00:21:58.500 even lefty outlets
00:22:00.560 around the world
00:22:01.440 in the UK
00:22:01.940 and in the US
00:22:02.740 were mocking him for this
00:22:04.020 because, look,
00:22:04.840 it wasn't just,
00:22:05.460 as you saw in the video,
00:22:06.180 it wasn't just Trudeau singing.
00:22:07.580 It was Trudeau
00:22:08.100 very dramatically,
00:22:10.120 very flamboyantly
00:22:11.420 getting into his
00:22:12.920 Freddie Mercury persona
00:22:14.700 and belting it out
00:22:16.160 after a long night
00:22:17.320 sitting by the piano.
00:22:19.120 But even CTV
00:22:20.500 tried to do this
00:22:21.020 long-form article
00:22:21.780 about how,
00:22:22.680 you know,
00:22:22.860 do world leaders
00:22:23.520 have the right to sing
00:22:24.620 or party?
00:22:25.300 How come Justin Trudeau
00:22:26.600 can't sing a little bit?
00:22:27.940 And then they compared it
00:22:28.920 to Stephen Harper
00:22:30.580 singing a Beatles song
00:22:32.220 with Yo-Yo Ma
00:22:33.100 in 2009.
00:22:34.800 Again,
00:22:35.420 I'm pretty sure
00:22:36.100 one was intentional,
00:22:37.940 one was on a stage,
00:22:39.300 the other was
00:22:40.340 when he was sitting
00:22:41.280 by a piano
00:22:42.000 when he was supposed
00:22:43.040 to be at the Queen's funeral.
00:22:44.500 I mean,
00:22:44.640 it's just classic, right?
00:22:45.980 They'll go to any way.
00:22:46.820 Now, in fairness,
00:22:47.500 he did go to the funeral.
00:22:49.280 This was in the
00:22:49.920 after-hours show,
00:22:51.140 but I certainly agree
00:22:52.380 the whole trip
00:22:53.200 was about the funeral.
00:22:54.760 Right,
00:22:55.080 the whole trip
00:22:55.520 was about the funeral.
00:22:56.300 It was not supposed
00:22:57.100 to be Justin Trudeau's
00:22:58.740 great Freddie Mercury
00:22:59.940 moment, right?
00:23:01.180 But it ended up
00:23:02.380 basically becoming that
00:23:03.400 and we're supposed
00:23:04.460 to sort of say,
00:23:05.820 oh,
00:23:06.160 political marketing expert
00:23:07.820 Clive Veroni
00:23:08.640 says Trudeau's singing
00:23:10.020 in London
00:23:10.340 was blown out of proportion.
00:23:12.580 Well,
00:23:12.780 I wonder why people
00:23:13.280 thought that.
00:23:13.840 I wonder why people
00:23:14.520 thought that it might
00:23:15.120 have been maybe
00:23:15.860 not the best look
00:23:17.020 for Canada.
00:23:17.680 I mean,
00:23:17.840 it's just ridiculous.
00:23:19.980 And it was a team effort
00:23:21.460 as well,
00:23:21.860 by the way.
00:23:22.520 It was CP24
00:23:23.500 at the end tribute,
00:23:24.240 but they all get a little
00:23:25.900 in on the action here.
00:23:27.140 CTV,
00:23:27.700 CP24,
00:23:28.500 congratulations.
00:23:29.480 I don't think
00:23:29.940 CP24 gets a lot
00:23:30.960 of recognition
00:23:31.500 these days,
00:23:32.080 Andrew.
00:23:32.360 So,
00:23:32.840 you know,
00:23:33.160 for them,
00:23:34.080 getting number four,
00:23:35.280 that's a pretty good deal
00:23:36.800 for them.
00:23:37.360 Congratulations to CP24.
00:23:39.560 And this brings us
00:23:41.120 to the top three.
00:23:42.800 Now,
00:23:42.940 these are some
00:23:43.500 of the heavy hitters.
00:23:44.440 And remember,
00:23:44.940 I go back to the beginning.
00:23:46.040 This was a list
00:23:47.140 that was compiled
00:23:47.800 by you,
00:23:48.620 True North insiders,
00:23:49.540 who had the chance
00:23:50.180 to vote
00:23:50.760 and get your favorite
00:23:52.420 fake news stories
00:23:53.400 of 2022
00:23:53.980 up to the top.
00:23:55.340 And we are now
00:23:55.860 in the final three.
00:23:57.740 And we've got some
00:23:58.420 heavier content here,
00:23:59.580 but number three
00:24:00.620 is a bit interesting
00:24:02.040 because this is more
00:24:02.680 of a general category
00:24:03.920 because if we were
00:24:05.220 to like break down
00:24:06.020 every individual story
00:24:07.100 in this category,
00:24:07.900 I think it would
00:24:08.460 probably be
00:24:08.900 the entire list here
00:24:10.080 as evidenced
00:24:11.100 by the fact
00:24:11.720 that it did make it
00:24:12.520 to the top three.
00:24:13.940 But what do we have
00:24:14.660 in third place,
00:24:15.600 Harrison?
00:24:16.020 We have
00:24:16.720 Polyev derangement
00:24:18.260 syndrome.
00:24:18.620 And of course,
00:24:19.300 it had to be
00:24:19.760 on this list.
00:24:20.460 I mean,
00:24:21.180 what a great year
00:24:22.820 of journalists
00:24:23.600 just completely
00:24:24.620 melting down,
00:24:26.120 embracing their own
00:24:27.000 little CNN,
00:24:28.380 MSNBC reaction
00:24:29.640 to Trump
00:24:30.100 for their own
00:24:31.660 opportunity to
00:24:33.020 kind of turn that
00:24:34.200 into their own
00:24:34.760 reaction to Polyev.
00:24:35.820 So they broke out
00:24:36.480 the Polyev derangement
00:24:38.420 syndrome.
00:24:39.080 And I mean,
00:24:39.560 again,
00:24:39.820 like I said,
00:24:40.280 we could have a whole
00:24:41.060 top ten list
00:24:41.860 of best examples
00:24:42.800 of this,
00:24:43.240 but why don't we
00:24:43.960 just go through
00:24:44.360 the list?
00:24:44.820 I mean,
00:24:45.000 we had op-eds
00:24:46.300 and columns
00:24:47.020 in the Globe and Mail
00:24:47.900 talking about
00:24:48.980 the dangerous rage,
00:24:50.880 Andrew,
00:24:51.220 from Polyev's
00:24:51.940 leadership campaign,
00:24:52.820 the dangerous rage
00:24:53.940 Polyev is channeling.
00:24:55.800 Or,
00:24:56.420 as another Globe and Mail
00:24:57.420 op-ed wrote,
00:24:58.240 the corrosive campaign.
00:25:01.200 I mean,
00:25:01.520 truly breaking out
00:25:02.460 the,
00:25:03.340 going in with all
00:25:04.280 the synonyms
00:25:04.860 for how you can
00:25:05.420 try and write,
00:25:06.200 you know,
00:25:06.740 bad,
00:25:07.440 right?
00:25:07.760 They're trying to
00:25:08.540 take Orange Man
00:25:09.580 bad and turn it
00:25:10.620 into Pierre Polyev.
00:25:11.480 They did their
00:25:11.840 absolute best.
00:25:13.260 So we had
00:25:13.820 dangerous rage,
00:25:14.520 we had corrosive
00:25:15.140 campaign,
00:25:15.800 two Globe and Mail
00:25:16.400 op-ed headlines,
00:25:17.400 embarrassing
00:25:17.780 stuff.
00:25:18.720 But then also,
00:25:19.560 we had what I
00:25:20.120 thought was the
00:25:20.580 best example of
00:25:21.440 Polyev derangement
00:25:22.120 syndrome,
00:25:23.200 was when Global
00:25:23.840 News,
00:25:24.800 Rachel Gilmore
00:25:25.660 was a journalist,
00:25:26.900 when they took
00:25:27.860 the picture,
00:25:29.160 the handshake
00:25:30.340 between Jeremy
00:25:30.860 McKenzie and
00:25:31.900 Pierre Polyev,
00:25:33.040 and they took it
00:25:33.800 as some sort of
00:25:34.620 grand endorsement
00:25:35.980 of the far right,
00:25:36.920 the radical far
00:25:37.680 right,
00:25:38.000 because someone
00:25:38.960 in the Diagalon,
00:25:40.540 the meme country,
00:25:41.440 by the way,
00:25:42.300 took a picture
00:25:43.220 with Pierre Polyev,
00:25:44.660 who unknowingly
00:25:45.440 took the picture
00:25:46.020 with him,
00:25:46.420 and then that
00:25:47.300 was basically
00:25:47.760 the news cycle
00:25:48.460 for a whole week.
00:25:49.840 So there was that,
00:25:50.820 there was the handshake,
00:25:52.260 there was also the
00:25:52.840 meltdown of the
00:25:53.360 Anglo-Saxon language,
00:25:54.900 Andrew.
00:25:55.020 I mean,
00:25:55.180 where do you start?
00:25:55.900 It's just a whole
00:25:57.060 collection of fake
00:26:00.360 news examples that
00:26:01.220 really deserve their
00:26:02.000 entire show
00:26:03.160 onto themselves.
00:26:03.840 Yeah,
00:26:05.660 and when Pierre Polyev used
00:26:07.200 the term Anglo-Saxon
00:26:08.520 words,
00:26:08.980 what he was talking
00:26:09.720 about was that
00:26:10.360 we need to use,
00:26:11.580 politicians and
00:26:12.600 governments need to
00:26:13.220 use simple,
00:26:14.120 clear language
00:26:15.140 in legislation
00:26:16.300 and in general
00:26:17.120 so the Canadians
00:26:17.840 know what's being
00:26:18.600 discussed.
00:26:19.120 So the fact that
00:26:19.680 that was taken,
00:26:20.820 plucked out of like
00:26:21.580 a 90-minute interview
00:26:22.900 with Jordan Peterson
00:26:23.840 and held up as
00:26:24.600 something offensive
00:26:25.260 is absurd.
00:26:26.540 I think my favorite
00:26:27.600 is the
00:26:28.440 MGTOW
00:26:30.180 controversy
00:26:32.120 which was like
00:26:33.520 this hidden meta
00:26:34.660 tag that was in
00:26:35.840 YouTube videos
00:26:36.840 that apparently
00:26:38.340 were got there
00:26:39.540 and no one knows
00:26:40.280 and this was a
00:26:41.100 dog whistle to the
00:26:42.220 far right or to the
00:26:43.200 incels or whatever
00:26:44.000 and the hilarious
00:26:45.100 thing was Global
00:26:45.940 did a report about
00:26:46.760 this and in the
00:26:47.680 hashtags they included
00:26:49.100 the hashtag
00:26:50.160 MGTOW
00:26:51.000 which was the
00:26:52.360 exact hashtag
00:26:53.260 that they were
00:26:54.140 taking aim at
00:26:54.980 Pierre Polyev for
00:26:55.820 and again it's
00:26:57.060 really this
00:26:57.960 perspective of
00:26:59.160 if you are
00:26:59.920 looking for
00:27:00.540 something
00:27:00.960 you will find
00:27:02.460 it and the
00:27:03.120 media already
00:27:03.780 decided this
00:27:04.560 guy's far right
00:27:05.460 so every step
00:27:06.680 he took
00:27:07.120 especially early
00:27:07.840 on they had to
00:27:08.560 filter through
00:27:09.140 that but I
00:27:09.820 think the best
00:27:10.280 one might be
00:27:11.040 this one from
00:27:12.380 Pierre Polyev's
00:27:13.420 first media
00:27:15.080 briefing as
00:27:16.440 leader of the
00:27:17.220 Conservatives.
00:27:18.800 Thank you very
00:27:19.440 much.
00:27:19.900 I appreciate it.
00:27:21.200 I appreciate
00:27:21.640 your presence here
00:27:22.700 today.
00:27:23.600 Before I begin
00:27:24.500 let me just
00:27:25.460 say that
00:27:26.040 thank you
00:27:29.840 very much
00:27:30.300 I'm being
00:27:31.400 heckled here
00:27:32.320 by the
00:27:33.580 thank you
00:27:34.760 very much
00:27:35.120 for your
00:27:35.360 congratulations
00:27:36.060 thank you
00:27:37.540 very much
00:27:37.920 for your
00:27:38.200 questions
00:27:38.520 I'm going
00:27:39.680 to begin
00:27:39.960 my remarks
00:27:40.500 now
00:27:40.800 Justin Trudeau
00:27:43.940 is out
00:27:44.940 of touch
00:27:45.480 and Canadians
00:27:46.580 are out
00:27:47.280 of money
00:27:47.600 the cost
00:27:48.760 of government
00:27:49.460 is driving
00:27:50.400 up the
00:27:51.260 cost of
00:27:51.720 living
00:27:52.000 a half
00:27:53.100 a trillion
00:27:53.640 dollars
00:27:54.140 of
00:27:54.660 inflationary
00:27:55.900 deficits
00:27:56.520 have bid
00:27:57.560 up the
00:27:57.840 cost of
00:27:58.420 the goods
00:27:58.860 we buy
00:28:00.180 and the
00:28:01.280 interest
00:28:02.020 that Canadians
00:28:02.840 pay
00:28:03.380 the cost
00:28:04.660 for workers
00:28:05.280 and businesses
00:28:06.560 to produce
00:28:07.520 the goods
00:28:07.960 that we buy
00:28:08.500 on top
00:28:09.820 of that
00:28:10.320 Trudeau
00:28:10.980 proposes
00:28:11.540 yet more
00:28:12.200 spending
00:28:12.640 to bid
00:28:13.060 up costs
00:28:13.700 even further
00:28:14.660 the more
00:28:16.120 things
00:28:16.420 the more
00:28:17.140 he spends
00:28:17.860 the more
00:28:18.560 things cost
00:28:19.480 it is
00:28:20.600 just
00:28:21.220 inflation
00:28:21.780 their homes
00:28:22.880 and
00:28:23.900 to buy
00:28:24.660 a home
00:28:25.000 in the
00:28:25.300 very first
00:28:25.800 place
00:28:26.120 the reason
00:28:27.260 that
00:28:27.720 we have
00:28:32.540 basically
00:28:34.680 a liberal
00:28:35.720 heckler
00:28:36.180 who snuck
00:28:36.700 in here
00:28:37.100 today
00:28:37.420 I'm a liberal
00:28:37.920 heckler
00:28:38.640 I'm the chief
00:28:41.520 political correspondent
00:28:42.200 of that organization
00:28:43.080 you may remember
00:28:44.100 me from the guy
00:28:45.280 who actually reported
00:28:46.100 first on the prime
00:28:47.320 minister breaking
00:28:47.900 the law
00:28:48.180 we'd just like
00:28:49.480 to ask a question
00:28:50.400 I've never
00:28:51.480 I've actually
00:28:51.960 never seen you
00:28:52.880 heckling
00:28:53.480 the prime minister
00:28:54.500 look
00:28:56.980 bottom line
00:28:57.700 is this
00:28:57.920 I'm going to
00:28:58.280 take some
00:28:58.580 questions
00:28:58.920 at the end
00:28:59.360 of this statement
00:28:59.820 yes I'm
00:29:00.220 taking two
00:29:01.100 questions
00:29:01.500 at the very
00:29:01.860 end
00:29:02.060 thank you
00:29:02.560 very much
00:29:02.840 so I'm
00:29:04.520 going to
00:29:04.640 start my
00:29:04.980 statement
00:29:05.260 again
00:29:05.660 yeah he
00:29:06.820 wasn't going
00:29:07.320 to take
00:29:07.580 questions
00:29:08.060 then he
00:29:08.380 said he
00:29:08.660 would
00:29:08.780 take
00:29:08.960 some
00:29:09.120 questions
00:29:09.500 and then
00:29:09.980 one
00:29:10.240 journalist
00:29:10.640 David
00:29:10.980 Akin
00:29:11.220 decided
00:29:11.600 to use
00:29:12.000 his
00:29:12.160 question
00:29:12.520 to demand
00:29:13.220 more
00:29:13.560 questions
00:29:14.080 and as a
00:29:15.160 result
00:29:15.480 just proved
00:29:16.560 exactly
00:29:17.200 why
00:29:17.800 Pierre
00:29:18.480 Polyev
00:29:18.900 might not
00:29:19.300 have had
00:29:19.740 the most
00:29:20.440 friendly
00:29:20.900 relationship
00:29:21.660 with
00:29:22.500 journalists
00:29:23.080 so do
00:29:23.660 you think
00:29:24.040 2023
00:29:24.620 will bring
00:29:25.380 more of
00:29:25.760 the same
00:29:26.160 100%
00:29:27.500 absolutely
00:29:28.140 and I
00:29:28.440 just want
00:29:28.680 to make
00:29:28.900 it clear
00:29:29.240 you know
00:29:29.520 we have
00:29:30.440 we have
00:29:31.040 we're going
00:29:31.620 to give
00:29:31.820 out our
00:29:32.120 top three
00:29:32.800 our bronze
00:29:33.240 medal
00:29:33.520 silver medal
00:29:34.060 gold medal
00:29:34.680 will give
00:29:35.280 a little
00:29:35.520 trophy
00:29:35.940 for number
00:29:36.360 one
00:29:36.660 but you
00:29:37.320 know
00:29:37.420 there's
00:29:37.760 so many
00:29:38.040 great
00:29:38.320 examples
00:29:38.720 of
00:29:38.920 Pierre
00:29:39.140 Polyev
00:29:39.880 derangement
00:29:40.340 syndrome
00:29:40.720 but I
00:29:41.440 think
00:29:41.580 if we
00:29:41.800 have to
00:29:42.100 give it
00:29:42.380 to one
00:29:42.900 outlet
00:29:43.300 in particular
00:29:43.800 because
00:29:44.160 to me
00:29:44.660 that's
00:29:44.900 sort of
00:29:45.100 how we
00:29:45.340 should
00:29:45.500 do it
00:29:45.740 one
00:29:45.940 outlet
00:29:46.180 should
00:29:46.360 get to
00:29:46.820 take home
00:29:47.640 the award
00:29:48.060 it's got
00:29:48.560 to go
00:29:48.740 to Global
00:29:49.080 News
00:29:49.360 right
00:29:49.580 they spearheaded
00:29:50.300 the MGTOW
00:29:50.940 thing
00:29:51.240 the MGTOW
00:29:52.160 they
00:29:53.040 you know
00:29:53.480 David Akin
00:29:54.100 the Global

00:29:55.480 Chief
00:29:55.880 Ottawa
00:29:56.220 Correspondent
00:29:56.760 or whatever
00:29:57.060 his title
00:29:57.520 is
00:29:57.800 it's got
00:29:59.020 to go
00:29:59.260 it's got
00:29:59.540 to go

00:30:03.180 reporting
00:30:03.620 I mean
00:30:03.880 they really
00:30:04.720 did
00:30:05.100 spearhead
00:30:06.340 Polyev
00:30:07.000 derangement
00:30:07.360 syndrome
00:30:07.480 they put
00:30:07.800 the team
00:30:08.080 on their
00:30:08.300 back
00:30:08.620 and for
00:30:09.160 that
00:30:09.340 they are
00:30:09.660 the
00:30:09.820 rightful
00:30:10.260 owners

00:30:15.120 Friday
00:30:15.380 awards
00:30:15.780 I mean
00:30:15.980 congratulations
00:30:16.540 to Global

00:30:17.340 which brings
00:30:19.480 us to
00:30:20.100 second
00:30:20.620 place
00:30:21.120 and I
00:30:21.400 think
00:30:21.560 still
00:30:21.920 very
00:30:22.300 much
00:30:22.660 along
00:30:23.020 that
00:30:23.260 same
00:30:23.620 vein
00:30:24.020 of
00:30:24.360 trying
00:30:24.680 to
00:30:24.880 see
00:30:25.180 far
00:30:25.820 right
00:30:26.100 boogey
00:30:26.600 men
00:30:26.860 or I
00:30:27.400 guess
00:30:27.660 that's
00:30:27.900 a bit
00:30:28.080 cis
00:30:28.320 normative
00:30:28.720 boogey
00:30:29.120 people
00:30:29.460 everywhere
00:30:30.220 you go
00:30:30.740 and
00:30:31.500 second
00:30:31.880 place
00:30:32.260 are
00:30:32.740 the
00:30:33.180 freedom
00:30:33.740 convoy
00:30:34.520 hate
00:30:34.920 hoaxes
00:30:35.420 now
00:30:35.580 this
00:30:35.820 is
00:30:35.980 a
00:30:36.200 split
00:30:36.780 award
00:30:37.280 as
00:30:37.480 they
00:30:37.640 say
00:30:37.940 there
00:30:38.160 are
00:30:38.280 two
00:30:38.480 contenders
00:30:39.060 in
00:30:39.820 this
00:30:40.040 category
00:30:40.620 number
00:30:40.980 one
00:30:41.340 is
00:30:41.680 the
00:30:41.860 infamous
00:30:42.200 arson
00:30:42.740 host
00:30:43.060 and
00:30:43.200 number
00:30:43.360 two
00:30:43.660 is
00:30:43.980 the
00:30:44.220 less
00:30:45.020 infamous
00:30:45.480 but
00:30:45.780 I
00:30:45.900 think
00:30:46.020 still
00:30:46.280 significant
00:30:46.920 poster
00:30:47.560 hoax
00:30:48.260 and
00:30:48.440 the
00:30:48.960 arson
00:30:49.380 hoax
00:30:49.680 I
00:30:49.800 think
00:30:49.900 a lot
00:30:50.160 of
00:30:50.260 people
00:30:50.460 know
00:30:50.700 by
00:30:50.900 now
00:30:51.220 was
00:30:51.560 jumped
00:30:52.000 on
00:30:52.280 by
00:30:52.660 members
00:30:53.080 of
00:30:53.280 parliament
00:30:53.660 it
00:30:53.860 was
00:30:54.000 jumped
00:30:54.240 on
00:30:54.520 by
00:30:54.800 people
00:30:55.320 in
00:30:55.480 the
00:30:55.620 media
00:30:55.960 it
00:30:56.180 was
00:30:56.300 jumped
00:30:56.540 on
00:30:56.820 by
00:30:57.200 journalists
00:30:57.820 and
00:30:58.020 activists
00:30:58.420 that
00:30:58.700 someone
00:30:59.220 in
00:30:59.360 the
00:30:59.480 convoy
00:30:59.920 supposedly
00:31:00.500 tried
00:31:01.080 to
00:31:01.280 lock
00:31:01.660 people
00:31:02.020 in
00:31:02.240 their
00:31:02.420 apartment
00:31:02.900 building
00:31:03.340 and
00:31:03.900 set
00:31:04.220 fire
00:31:04.660 to
00:31:04.960 it
00:31:05.100 now
00:31:05.320 someone
00:31:06.040 did
00:31:06.340 do
00:31:06.660 this
00:31:06.940 but
00:31:07.120 it
00:31:07.260 was
00:31:07.500 a
00:31:07.920 person
00:31:08.440 that
00:31:08.660 had
00:31:08.880 nothing
00:31:09.280 to
00:31:09.520 do
00:31:09.660 with
00:31:09.800 the
00:31:09.940 convoy
00:31:10.480 whatsoever
00:31:11.200 no
00:31:12.100 connection
00:31:12.620 was
00:31:12.900 known
00:31:13.200 to
00:31:13.400 police
00:31:13.860 had
00:31:14.680 some
00:31:14.940 mental
00:31:15.200 health
00:31:15.500 issues
00:31:15.820 I
00:31:16.020 believe
00:31:16.340 but
00:31:16.580 literally
00:31:17.080 zero
00:31:17.780 connection
00:31:18.300 to
00:31:18.520 the
00:31:18.700 convoy
00:31:19.140 at
00:31:19.280 all
00:31:19.520 but
00:31:20.080 this
00:31:20.400 story
00:31:21.080 has
00:31:21.700 been
00:31:22.040 adopted
00:31:22.720 and
00:31:23.160 fueled
00:31:23.740 by
00:31:24.040 people
00:31:24.400 who
00:31:24.580 have
00:31:24.740 never
00:31:25.000 apologized
00:31:25.660 for
00:31:26.500 getting
00:31:26.880 it
00:31:27.100 wrong
00:31:27.580 and
00:31:27.800 it
00:31:27.960 still
00:31:28.220 remains
00:31:28.780 if
00:31:28.980 you
00:31:29.080 talk
00:31:29.320 to
00:31:29.440 some
00:31:29.620 people
00:31:29.860 that
00:31:30.020 haven't
00:31:30.300 followed
00:31:30.580 the
00:31:30.780 corrections
00:31:31.220 where
00:31:31.840 they
00:31:32.080 think
00:31:32.440 that
00:31:32.680 yeah
00:31:32.900 the
00:31:33.120 freedom
00:31:33.380 convoy
00:31:33.920 tried
00:31:34.300 to
00:31:34.480 commit
00:31:34.700 an
00:31:34.840 arson
00:31:35.240 on
00:31:35.900 a
00:31:36.060 downtown
00:31:36.440 ottawa
00:31:37.040 apartment
00:31:37.980 building
00:31:38.380 and
00:31:38.580 again
00:31:38.860 it's
00:31:39.060 that
00:31:39.180 old
00:31:39.360 line
00:31:39.640 about
00:31:39.820 how
00:31:40.060 quickly
00:31:40.500 a
00:31:40.680 lie
00:31:40.880 travels
00:31:41.300 around
00:31:41.540 the
00:31:41.700 world
00:31:41.920 while
00:31:42.120 the
00:31:42.260 truth
00:31:42.460 is
00:31:42.600 putting
00:31:42.780 its
00:31:42.940 pants
00:31:43.220 on
00:31:43.500 well
00:31:44.100 exactly
00:31:44.440 this
00:31:44.640 is
00:31:44.740 the
00:31:44.840 entire
00:31:45.220 strategy
00:31:46.280 right
00:31:46.640 journalists
00:31:47.800 have
00:31:48.320 lost
00:31:48.840 a lot
00:31:49.260 of their
00:31:49.480 credibility
00:31:49.960 I'm
00:31:50.240 talking
00:31:50.480 particularly
00:31:50.980 of course
00:31:51.420 about
00:31:51.660 legacy
00:31:52.060 media
00:31:52.400 journalists
00:31:52.920 and one
00:31:53.640 of the
00:31:53.860 things
00:31:54.080 that
00:31:54.200 they
00:31:54.340 do
00:31:54.740 this
00:31:55.300 is
00:31:55.400 a
00:31:55.520 time
00:31:55.800 old
00:31:55.980 tradition
00:31:56.460 but
00:31:57.040 it
00:31:57.140 was

00:34:44.160 it
00:34:44.520 becomes
00:34:44.820 the

00:34:45.160 and
00:34:45.360 that

00:35:11.160 we'll
00:35:11.360 see

00:35:17.880 a
00:35:18.060 smaller
00:35:18.560 story
00:35:19.100 than
00:35:19.300 some
00:35:19.480 of
00:35:19.560 the
00:35:19.660 other
00:35:19.840 ones
00:35:20.080 on
00:35:20.200 the

00:35:20.560 but
00:35:20.820 it's
00:35:21.420 also
00:35:21.680 I
00:35:21.880 think
00:35:22.020 a lot
00:35:22.320 more
00:35:22.560 symbolic
00:35:23.100 because
00:35:23.500 it
00:35:23.640 involves
00:35:24.020 CBC
00:35:24.580 it
00:35:25.400 involves
00:35:25.840 the
00:35:26.060 liberals
00:35:26.420 and
00:35:26.980 it
00:35:27.100 involves
00:35:27.620 multiple
00:35:28.140 layers
00:35:28.600 this
00:35:28.900 is
00:35:29.080 like
00:35:29.320 the
00:35:29.520 fake
00:35:29.780 news
00:35:30.120 inception
00:35:30.660 here
00:35:31.100 where
00:35:31.380 it's

00:35:32.360 being
00:35:32.660 used

00:35:33.900 other
00:35:34.240 stuff
00:35:34.560 which
00:35:34.740 is
00:35:34.840 then
00:35:34.980 reported
00:35:35.380 in
00:35:35.560 the

00:35:35.920 for

00:35:36.840 one
00:35:37.200 this
00:35:37.460 year
00:35:37.740 I
00:35:37.940 don't
00:35:38.100 know
00:35:38.220 if
00:35:38.320 we
00:35:38.420 have
00:35:38.600 the

00:35:38.920 roll
00:35:39.120 sound

00:35:47.360 in
00:35:47.560 February
00:35:48.020 when
00:35:48.720 the

00:36:25.740 no
00:36:26.100 it's
00:36:26.480 it's
00:36:26.780 truly
00:36:27.300 unbelievable
00:36:28.500 reads
00:36:28.620 the
00:36:28.760 CBC
00:36:29.120 knows
00:36:29.560 that
00:36:29.780 they
00:36:30.060 try
00:36:31.020 to
00:36:31.300 coax
00:36:32.300 their
00:36:32.520 opinion
00:36:32.940 articles
00:36:33.400 in
00:36:33.700 two
00:36:33.900 sections
00:36:34.940 they
00:36:35.140 have
00:36:35.380 opinion
00:36:36.100 where
00:36:36.360 they
00:36:36.560 allow
00:36:37.240 just
00:36:37.580 completely
00:36:38.220 unhinged
00:36:39.360 opinions
00:36:39.820 to
00:36:40.060 end up
00:36:40.460 on
00:36:40.560 the
00:36:40.680 CBC
00:36:40.960 front
00:36:41.260 page
00:36:41.480 never
00:36:41.680 conservative
00:36:42.120 of course
00:36:42.560 like
00:36:43.100 crosswords
00:36:43.560 or racist
00:36:44.120 or whatever
00:36:44.580 yeah
00:36:45.100 exactly
00:36:45.540 they have
00:36:46.080 the
00:36:46.160 opinion
00:36:46.460 page
00:36:46.780 and then
00:36:47.040 they
00:36:47.140 have
00:36:47.320 the
00:36:47.480 analysis
00:36:48.020 section
00:36:48.500 which
00:36:48.740 also
00:36:49.480 is
00:36:49.900 opinion
00:36:50.380 it
00:36:50.960 is
00:36:51.120 the
00:36:51.260 exact
00:36:51.600 same
00:36:51.900 thing
00:36:52.100 as
00:36:52.200 opinion
00:36:52.540 but
00:36:53.020 the
00:36:53.200 analysis
00:36:53.680 falls
00:36:54.400 under
00:36:54.680 people
00:36:55.280 who
00:36:58.500 of a
00:36:59.480 higher
00:36:59.700 standing
00:37:00.120 in
00:37:00.300 society
00:37:00.660 gets
00:37:00.880 to
00:37:01.000 write
00:37:01.120 an
00:37:01.320 analysis
00:37:01.800 piece
00:37:02.140 so
00:37:02.360 basically
00:37:03.100 journalists
00:37:04.280 are allowed
00:37:04.880 to write
00:37:05.260 analysis
00:37:05.700 pieces
00:37:06.080 a CBC
00:37:06.560 journalist
00:37:07.020 is not
00:37:07.420 allowed
00:37:07.620 to write
00:37:07.920 an
00:37:08.060 opinion
00:37:08.340 column
00:37:08.700 but
00:37:08.860 they
00:37:08.980 can
00:37:09.120 write
00:37:09.320 an
00:37:09.560 analysis
00:37:10.100 right
00:37:10.700 exactly
00:37:11.160 so
00:37:11.440 really
00:37:12.120 what
00:37:12.280 we're
00:37:12.380 talking
00:37:12.600 about
00:37:12.760 here
00:37:12.920 is
00:37:13.120 the
00:37:14.300 liberals
00:37:14.660 the
00:37:14.860 government
00:37:15.180 relying
00:37:15.820 on
00:37:16.100 a
00:37:16.460 CBC
00:37:16.960 opinion
00:37:17.700 piece
00:37:18.280 to
00:37:18.980 justify
00:37:19.520 freezing
00:37:20.100 bank
00:37:20.420 accounts
00:37:20.780 to
00:37:21.300 give
00:37:21.620 to
00:37:21.840 MPs
00:37:22.620 to
00:37:23.040 say
00:37:23.440 wait
00:37:23.960 so
00:37:24.180 the
00:37:24.640 MPs
00:37:24.980 had to
00:37:25.180 vote
00:37:25.360 on
00:37:28.500 given
00:37:28.800 the
00:37:29.320 14
00:37:30.040 page
00:37:30.340 document
00:37:30.700 included
00:37:31.180 the
00:37:31.440 CBC
00:37:31.940 opinion
00:37:32.520 piece
00:37:32.820 as
00:37:32.940 justification
00:37:33.360 and yet
00:37:34.460 the
00:37:34.620 government
00:37:34.840 was still
00:37:35.320 carried
00:37:35.720 in the
00:37:36.160 emergencies
00:37:36.500 act
00:37:36.760 vote
00:37:37.060 it's
00:37:37.880 truly
00:37:39.340 worthy
00:37:39.760 of
00:37:40.120 the
00:37:40.240 winner
00:37:40.500 again
00:37:41.020 maybe
00:37:41.260 not
00:37:41.440 the
00:37:41.620 biggest
00:37:42.000 fake
00:37:42.400 news
00:37:42.600 story
00:37:42.860 but
00:37:43.020 again
00:37:43.260 like
00:37:43.480 you
00:37:43.600 said
00:37:43.740 it
00:37:43.980 just
00:37:44.600 paints
00:37:44.920 the
00:37:45.080 image
00:37:45.280 for
00:37:45.460 you
00:37:45.560 it
00:37:45.740 tells
00:37:46.140 you
00:37:46.260 all
00:37:46.420 you
00:37:46.500 need
00:37:46.600 to
00:37:46.700 know
00:37:46.880 Andrew
00:37:47.160 about
00:37:47.660 this
00:37:47.880 government
00:37:48.260 about
00:37:48.680 the
00:37:48.840 decisions
00:37:49.260 that
00:37:49.420 they
00:37:49.520 made
00:37:49.880 during
00:37:50.560 the
00:37:50.760 freedom
00:37:51.000 convoy
00:37:51.480 the
00:37:51.820 decisions
00:37:52.180 they
00:37:58.500 ride
00:37:59.140 on
00:37:59.340 them
00:37:59.460 the
00:37:59.560 decision
00:37:59.820 to
00:38:00.000 freeze
00:38:00.220 bank
00:38:00.480 accounts
00:38:00.740 will
00:38:00.900 ride
00:38:01.260 on
00:38:01.400 them
00:38:01.520 forever
00:38:01.940 I
00:38:02.180 think
00:38:02.420 it'll
00:38:02.620 be
00:38:02.800 their
00:38:03.040 legacy
00:38:03.420 and
00:38:04.220 to
00:38:04.540 do
00:38:04.760 so
00:38:05.120 they
00:38:05.520 relied
00:38:05.800 on
00:38:05.960 a
00:38:06.160 CBC
00:38:06.600 opinion
00:38:07.120 piece
00:38:07.580 truly
00:38:08.820 emblematic
00:38:10.000 I
00:38:10.180 think
00:38:10.480 Andrew
00:38:10.780 of
00:38:11.120 where
00:38:11.520 we
00:38:11.700 are
00:38:11.880 right
00:38:12.120 now
00:38:12.400 where
00:38:12.600 the
00:38:12.780 government
00:38:13.080 is
00:38:13.540 sort
00:38:14.140 of
00:38:14.260 the
00:38:14.400 capacity
00:38:15.300 that
00:38:15.520 our
00:38:15.640 government
00:38:15.900 has
00:38:16.460 to
00:38:16.960 justify
00:38:17.440 their
00:38:17.680 decisions
00:38:18.160 if
00:38:18.640 they're
00:38:18.760 relying
00:38:19.040 on
00:38:19.200 the
00:38:19.320 CBC
00:38:19.720 well
00:38:20.580 I
00:38:20.700 think
00:38:20.840 we're
00:38:21.000 in
00:38:21.440 for
00:38:21.640 a
00:38:21.920 pretty
00:38:28.500 of
00:38:28.980 you
00:38:29.160 who
00:38:29.380 are
00:38:29.620 supporting
00:38:30.080 True
00:38:30.320 North
00:38:30.620 and
00:38:30.780 the
00:38:30.900 insiders
00:38:31.340 clubs
00:38:31.720 who
00:38:32.420 voted
00:38:32.940 in
00:38:33.320 this
00:38:33.660 poll
00:38:34.000 and
00:38:34.280 perhaps
00:38:34.640 even
00:38:34.900 helped
00:38:35.220 run
00:38:35.640 that
00:38:35.840 story
00:38:36.160 up
00:38:36.340 to
00:38:36.480 number
00:38:36.660 one
00:38:36.920 but
00:38:37.060 whether
00:38:37.300 it
00:38:37.780 was
00:38:37.940 the
00:38:38.120 indigiqueer
00:38:39.040 drag
00:38:39.920 performance
