00:00:04.000 Hey, everybody.

00:00:09.000 That's right.
00:00:09.000 Shock in the world.

00:00:17.000 We also talk about some of the controversies.
00:00:19.000 He's attacked J.D. Vance.

00:00:21.000 What does he believe?
00:00:22.000 We walk through all of that here in this episode, so listen to it in its entirety.
00:00:26.000 We have a new American pope from Chicago.
00:00:29.000 Of course, I'm from Chicago, so I'm rather partial.

00:01:52.000 We here have some amazing breaking news.
00:01:54.000 President Donald Trump was in the Oval Office early this morning, earlier than usual, announcing a historic and record trade deal with the UK.
00:02:03.000 President Donald Trump, as you know, has been embarking on a new path for American trade.
00:02:11.000 And this is where all the experts were wrong about President Trump, and they were all wrong about what he was doing.
00:02:17.000 You see, he was not only using tariffs to try and raise revenue for the federal government.
00:02:22.000 He was not just only using tariffs as a way to try to encourage American investment and manufacturing, both of which are happening.
00:02:31.000 But instead, he invented the tariff as a third thing, as a negotiating tool.
00:02:36.000 Now, mind you, what was announced today is something that Joe Biden was never able to do, Barack Obama was never able to do.
00:02:42.000 The United Kingdom, despite being a very close ally of the United States, was a very closed economy.
00:02:48.000 And listening carefully to what President Trump announced today, and we're going to play a lot of this tape, it was very clear what President Trump's mentality is when it comes to trade.
00:02:57.000 You see, the media, and if you watch CNBC, and if you watch all the talking heads on the economics networks and the financial networks, they're there to make you seem as if President Trump wants to be an isolationist.
00:03:10.000 That he doesn't want to trade with the rest of the world.
00:03:12.000 No, no, no.
00:03:13.000 What President Trump wants is us to no longer just buy from the rest of the world.
00:03:19.000 That President Trump does not want us to be solely purchasers, but also producers.
00:03:24.000 He wants the purchasing and the producing.
00:03:27.000 To be equally yoked.
00:03:29.000 You see, President Trump wants to make America the world's shopping destination.
00:03:36.000 There's nothing wrong with being a consumer economy, but if you are only a consumer economy, then you're actually not a country.
00:03:43.000 What President Trump announced today, and this is the United Kingdom trade deal, let's put it up on screen, is remarkable.
00:03:50.000 Five billion dollars in new export access for our goods and services.
00:03:56.000 Trump's global tariffs on steel and aluminum are removed from the United Kingdom.
00:04:00.000 The 25% foreign car tariff is lowered to 10% for the first 100,000 cars.
00:04:08.000 The United Kingdom exported 101,000 cars to the United States last year, so this almost matches the current volume.
00:04:14.000 Let's get this up on screen.
00:04:15.000 Thank you.
00:04:16.000 Over $6 billion in new tariff revenue, so we're going to be able to Get more tariff revenue to hopefully pay down our deficit and fund our government.
00:04:24.000 This is my favorite part.
00:04:26.000 And interestingly, you could make an argument.
00:04:30.000 And again, all the libertarians and all these squawkers on TV, they are so dishonest.
00:04:36.000 According to this, you could make the argument that President Trump is far more free trade than Joe Biden.
00:04:43.000 The United Kingdom tariffs were 5.1%.
00:04:46.000 Now they're 1.8%.
00:04:51.000 Reciprocity.
00:04:51.000 That is what President Trump has always been focused on.
00:04:54.000 I'm going to use the shock and awe liberation tariffs, boom, to bring you to the table.
00:04:59.000 And if you don't do a deal, they will stay.
00:05:03.000 Oh, looks like they have a pope.
00:05:06.000 That's a big deal.
00:05:07.000 So let's keep our eyes on that.
00:05:09.000 We'll be out within minutes.
00:05:11.000 We're going to definitely have to cut to that.
00:05:12.000 Sorry, Andrew.
00:05:13.000 You've got to cancel all the guests.
00:05:14.000 We've got to go live for whomever the new pope is.
00:05:19.000 So we're going to do that on real time.
00:05:21.000 So it looks like white smoke has been seen at the conclave.
00:05:24.000 Very quick conclave there.
00:05:27.000 Wow, what a day.
00:05:28.000 So you got new deals with the United Kingdom.
00:05:29.000 We got a whole pipeline of new deals coming.
00:05:32.000 And you got a new pope as well.
00:05:36.000 So we'll keep our eyes on that.
00:05:37.000 Let's do a picture-in-picture.
00:05:38.000 Thank you, guys.
00:05:39.000 That is a live view of the Sistine Chapel of white smoke.
00:05:44.000 A lot shorter than the three-year conclave before.
00:05:47.000 So we're going to pivot here a little bit by also talking about the trade deals.
00:05:51.000 You see, Trump closes the big, bold, and America first trade deals.
00:05:57.000 He's not locking the world out.
00:05:59.000 He's locking in record demand for U.S. goods.
00:06:04.000 Tariffs were used to be able to have President Trump cut ribbons on open markets and booming exports.
00:06:12.000 And now the real question on everyone's mind is, will President Trump seek a new Vatican trade deal with the new Pope?
00:06:20.000 They are a sovereign country with, I will be honest, a fair amount of purchasing power.
00:06:25.000 There's a lot of wealth in the Vatican.
00:06:28.000 This is a historic moment that you're watching here right now, an announcement of a new Pope, and we're going to be watching that live here.
00:06:33.000 We'll just cut straight to the Sistine Chapel or whomever is covering it, or I'll do my best to try to announce this live.
00:06:42.000 A lot of celebration happening live on the St. Peter's Basilica Square.
00:06:49.000 A lot happening.
00:06:51.000 Let me close on the trade thing and then we'll talk about the Pope.
00:06:54.000 This is a very breaking news day here.
00:06:57.000 President Trump has turned trade talks into triumphs.
00:07:01.000 He's turned negotiations into wins.
00:07:04.000 And the market is responding favorably.
00:07:07.000 I told you guys, don't be a panicker.
00:07:11.000 Don't.
00:07:11.000 Keep your head down.
00:07:12.000 Don't look at your portfolio.
00:07:14.000 Well, the market is up 500 days.
00:07:15.000 And look, markets will go up and markets will go down and markets will spin around.
00:07:19.000 But now we have unprecedented access to ethanol, beef, cereals, fruits, vegetables, animal feed, tobacco, soft drinks, shellfish, textiles, chemicals, machinery, and more will then be able to be sold more easily in the United Kingdom.
00:07:33.000 Huge trade win.
00:07:35.000 We'll talk more about that.
00:07:36.000 But let's get to the even more breaking news.
00:07:38.000 That there is a new pope.
00:07:40.000 This is a shorter conclave, and it'll be very interesting the type of pope that will be selected.
00:07:46.000 I pray that the new pope is going to be more in the image and the mold of John Paul II than of Pope Francis.
00:07:54.000 It's no different than praying that you hope that an election in the United Kingdom goes our way, or hoping that Millet becomes the prime minister of Argentina.
00:08:02.000 This is one of the world's most high-profile people, representing two billion human beings.
00:08:08.000 It's good for all of humanity to have a pope that believes in the sanctity of life, that believes in traditional marriage, that believes in, hopefully, borders and national sovereignty.
00:08:20.000 So we can only hope that this pope is one that shares traditional Catholic values, one that is good for not just Catholics but good for the world.
00:08:30.000 John Paul II had a geopolitical influence, larger and greater than...
00:08:37.000 Anything that people could have imagined in a truly profound and deep and measurable way.
00:08:45.000 So the way this will work is this, is that there will be almost an immediate papal procession.
00:08:50.000 And then next Sunday, because they almost always do it on Sunday, next Sunday will likely be the official coronation of the new pope.
00:09:03.000 And so they'll invite all the heads of state from around the world.
00:09:06.000 And next Sunday will likely be the official ceremony.
00:09:12.000 I think of it as kind of like a papal inauguration, if you will.
00:09:19.000 Email us, as always, freedom at charliekirk.com.
00:09:22.000 People are rushing to St. Peter's Square right now.
00:09:26.000 I might actually throw Blake on the show if Lila, he's our resident Catholic and knows everything that you need to know about this stuff, so I might throw him on here.
00:09:34.000 Can we get some open...
00:09:36.000 I know that President Trump is doing a press conference.
00:09:39.000 Unfortunately, Ed Martin's nomination has been pulled.
00:09:41.000 That's largely thanks to Tom Tillis.
00:09:43.000 That is not actually the most important news today.
00:09:45.000 There is the 267th Pope.
00:09:47.000 And I say this as an evangelical non-Catholic.
00:09:50.000 I think it's pretty awesome that there is this unbroken chain all the way back to one of Jesus' treasured disciples.
00:09:58.000 I think that's pretty awesome.
00:10:00.000 This is one of the reasons why so many young people are becoming Catholic.
00:10:04.000 They're becoming Catholic because in a world where everything is changing, they don't want to go to church in a Costco, and they don't want to hear some pastor's opinion that might change week to week.
00:10:15.000 They want something ancient, they want something beautiful, and they want tradition.
00:10:21.000 And the Catholic Church has a lot of things I don't agree with, and some things I certainly don't like, but one of the things I do value about the Catholic Church is they haven't changed.
00:10:33.000 They're very honest about who they are and what they believe, and they have uncompromising principles.
00:10:39.000 That liturgy is very similar, if not Vatican I especially, but to the original way that the early church worshipped.
00:10:50.000 It ties generations together.
00:10:53.000 There is a movement of Gen Z that is becoming Catholic.
00:10:56.000 In fact, I had a whole pastor's summit of evangelical pastors last evening, and they said, why are so many young people becoming Catholic?
00:11:03.000 I said, your inability to answer that question is why they're becoming Catholic.
00:11:08.000 They're becoming Catholic because they don't want the trans nonsense.
00:11:12.000 They don't want to have some sort of social media clout chasing pastor give them a feel-good sermon.
00:11:21.000 They want to look up.
00:11:24.000 They don't want to just look at themselves through a phone all day long.
00:11:28.000 I'm hopeful that there is a spiritual reset and I'm praying and I'm hopeful that this Pope understands the times that we are in and that there is one of the greatest growth opportunities for Christianity that we'll ever find right now.
00:11:43.000 There is a growth opportunity in the West because the West is suffering under its own weight.
00:11:49.000 Suffering under suicide and depression and anxiety.
00:11:54.000 We've been talking about a golden age for America.
00:11:57.000 Perhaps if it is the Lord's will, and if we are obedient, maybe it's a golden age for Christianity and for higher purposes.
00:12:06.000 And perhaps the new pope can be a big part of that.
00:12:10.000 Where this pope can proclaim that there are two sexes.
00:12:13.000 That this transgenderism thing is from the pit of hell.
00:12:17.000 That children are made in the image of God in the Imago Dei.
00:12:24.000 At its best, the Pope should stand up against the excesses of the Western secular world and something that Pope Francis, I don't think, did very well, and I'm not here to attack him, but also to fight against Islam infiltrating the West.
00:12:41.000 My prayer is that this Pope understands the woke green axis that is trying to envelop and suffocate the Western world.
00:12:52.000 This pope needs to speak out against the rise of Mohammedism, speaking out against the butchery of our children through gender-affirming care, to stop the cultural suicide.
00:13:04.000 And if he, as this pope, does this, I will be his biggest supporter, and Catholics will see an even bigger harvest of young people that want to become Christian.
00:13:17.000 Protestants have very little moral clarity right now.
00:13:20.000 We have a couple pastors there.
00:13:21.000 You've heard me mention them.
00:13:22.000 We have the great Jack Kibbs.
00:13:23.000 We have Dream City.
00:13:24.000 But there is very little moral clarity from most Protestant churches right now.
00:13:29.000 This pope has an opportunity, a once-in-a-1,000-year opportunity.
00:13:33.000 In fact, I would make an argument that this is one of the most, if not the most, prime opportunities for the Catholic Church.
00:13:40.000 And I say this again as a Protestant since the Reformation.
00:13:44.000 Protestantism is...
00:13:46.000 Basically collapsing under its own weight.
00:13:49.000 It's too bad, but it's true.
00:13:51.000 From woke pastors to gay pride flags outside of many of our churches, to the BLM marches, to the pro-choice stuff, to the pro-trans stuff, to the silence during COVID.
00:14:02.000 And this younger generation says, the Protestant church has lost all of my trust.
00:14:06.000 And it's very hard for me to tell them otherwise, except for the exceptions.
00:14:11.000 The ideology that has ruled the West since the end of World War II is crumbling.
00:14:15.000 And there is a huge opening for alternatives.
00:14:19.000 But some people will join Islam just for that reason.
00:14:22.000 But a muscular, forceful, firm Catholic church could out-compete them.
00:14:30.000 And I'll be praying for that.
00:14:33.000 And you should too, regardless if you are Catholic, because it is good for the West and it's good for all of humanity to understand what we are up against.
00:14:42.000 Hey, everybody.
00:14:43.000 Charlie Kirk here.
00:14:44.000 What does the future hold for business?
00:14:45.000 Ask nine experts.
00:14:46.000 You'll get all sorts of different answers.
00:14:48.000 In fact, you might get 10 answers if you ask nine experts.
00:14:50.000 They'll say a bull market, a bear market, rates will rise or fall, inflation up or down.
00:14:55.000 Can someone please invent a crystal ball?

00:15:45.000 Blake is here, our resident Catholic.
00:15:47.000 Look at this live from, is that St. Peter's Square, right?
00:15:51.000 Yes.
00:15:51.000 So it's the square and the basilica.
00:15:53.000 St. Peter's Square outside St. Peter's Basilica.
00:15:55.000 So a lot of people are very interested in this.
00:15:58.000 We're going to go all live coverage of the Pope.
00:16:00.000 Okay, John Yep will be coming shortly from Rome.
00:16:02.000 Let's keep that.
00:16:03.000 That's perfect how you guys have that configured.
00:16:04.000 So please, the emphasis should be on the live feed there.
00:16:08.000 And by the way, those of you watching, this is the best coverage that you guys are going to get right here as we cover this here.
00:16:17.000 What is the timeline here?
00:16:18.000 Let's keep the procession going, please, guys, on the screen.
00:16:22.000 So, momentarily, the Pope is going to pick a new name.
00:16:26.000 So, what is the process of that?
00:16:28.000 And it has to be a saint, right?
00:16:29.000 No, the Pope can pick whatever name he wants.
00:16:31.000 It's just a tradition.
00:16:32.000 He doesn't have to do it.
00:16:34.000 There have been Popes who didn't do it.
00:16:37.000 And Francis did, obviously.
00:16:38.000 Francis picked a saint's name, and he picked a new name.
00:16:40.000 Usually they often pick someone...
00:16:43.000 They almost always pick a new name, though.
00:16:44.000 No, no.
00:16:45.000 They usually...
00:16:45.000 Well, they always pick a new name for themselves.
00:16:47.000 That's what I'm saying.
00:16:48.000 Usually they pick one that's been used a lot, Benedict XVI.
00:16:51.000 We've had a more recent run of them picking new ones.
00:16:54.000 John Paul II.
00:16:55.000 So John Paul I immediately preceded him and died after only a month.
00:16:59.000 And so John Paul II basically said, in tribute to our Pope who...
00:17:05.000 I will take the same name.
00:17:07.000 John Paul, that was a new name, but the previous popes were John and Paul, and so he was combining them.
00:17:14.000 But beyond that, you usually get a lot of repeat ones.
00:17:18.000 We had a ton of...
00:17:20.000 It was Pope Pius over and over and over again throughout the 1800s and early 1900s, so I think the most recent was Pius XII, but almost all of those were in the past 200, 300 years.
00:17:34.000 Yeah, but they don't have to.
00:17:35.000 He could come out and just say, like, oh, I'm getting rid of that tradition.
00:17:38.000 But it's a 2,000-year tradition at this point, so you're likely to see it again.
00:17:42.000 All right, so we have a monster panel of Catholics.
00:17:44.000 And I'm the only evangelical here, for the record.
00:17:46.000 And I love Catholics.
00:17:48.000 I love them.
00:17:49.000 Okay, so here we have Lila Rose.
00:17:52.000 We have, I think, John Yep.
00:17:56.000 And then we have Jack Posobiec.
00:17:57.000 Let me first say, Lila, congratulations to you.
00:17:59.000 New Pope, what is your thoughts here?
00:18:01.000 I'm super excited.
00:18:03.000 This is like a birthday in Disneyland and Christmas all in one day.
00:18:07.000 So we're super pumped.
00:18:09.000 And obviously we don't know who the Pope is yet.
00:18:11.000 We're going to probably know in maybe half an hour.
00:18:14.000 Usually you learn within the hour after the white smoke.
00:18:17.000 But I'm just grateful.
00:18:18.000 I'm grateful for God's providence.
00:18:20.000 God is good.
00:18:21.000 Amen.
00:18:21.000 All the time.
00:18:22.000 Okay, so we have Jack Posobiec from Rome.
00:18:24.000 We're going to bounce around with the whole panel here.
00:18:26.000 I don't know how we're going to do this technically, but Jack, do we have Jack?
00:18:29.000 Oh, we have John Yep.
00:18:30.000 I'm sorry.
00:18:30.000 We have John Yep from Rome.
00:18:31.000 John, congratulations.
00:18:32.000 What's the vibe on the ground right now in Rome?
00:18:36.000 The vibe is insane here.
00:18:38.000 There was a mass crowd that just ran to the square, gently pushing and shoving, I might add, but people were respectful, aware of the moment.
00:18:47.000 Charlie, I heard that you're sponsoring free lunches for all Catholics.
00:18:51.000 That's wonderful.
00:18:52.000 You are so grateful.
00:18:53.000 Just from a spiritual sense, I do think, you know, people in the square, whether you're Catholic, Christian, whatever, there's a certain sense of the return of the Father, right?
00:19:04.000 This representative, Catholics seem that, in that way, imperfect though we might be.
00:19:10.000 And we're waiting for that man, that anticipation to come out, to stand on that loja.
00:19:15.000 And to give us his paternal fatherly blessing.
00:19:17.000 Insane reality up here, Charlie.
00:19:20.000 I ran across the square and just my hands are shaking with the excitement.
00:19:24.000 I gotta admit.
00:19:26.000 Praise the Lord.
00:19:27.000 And so we were talking about the name.
00:19:30.000 So what name is actually going to be selected and what name is going to be chosen, right?
00:19:36.000 And I think Jack Posobiec is also going to join us.
00:19:39.000 I want to cover that, but really quick, about a minute and a half remaining.
00:19:42.000 Lila, what would you like to see this pope do in regards to the fight for life, the sanctity of the unborn?
00:19:49.000 Lila, please comment on that.
00:19:50.000 Let's go full screen with all of the proceedings at the Basilica.
00:19:54.000 Well, listen, all of the last century of popes, because abortion has really been this modern holocaust.
00:20:01.000 We've lost...
00:20:02.000 Now 1.5 billion babies to abortion globally in just the last two decades.
00:20:07.000 So this is the modern-day Holocaust, the killing of the unborn.
00:20:10.000 And every single pope we've had in this century, in the last century, has been...
00:20:15.000 So outspoken for life, because this is a core Christian teaching.
00:20:19.000 I'm getting an announcement here.
00:20:21.000 Oh, sorry.
00:20:22.000 Pope Francis was extremely passionately pro-life.
00:20:26.000 John Paul II, Benedict were all passionately pro-life.
00:20:29.000 So I'm confident the next pope will, of course, be passionately pro-life.
00:20:32.000 The gates of hell do not prevail against the church, though they're going to be true blue on the faith and moral teachings of the church.
00:20:38.000 So I hope that we'll...
00:20:42.000 I think that's the key thing.
00:20:43.000 I'm not worried about the Pope not being pro-life.
00:20:45.000 The Pope's going to be pro-life.
00:20:47.000 The question is, will people listen to the prophetic words of the Holy Father?
00:20:52.000 Will people pay attention?
00:20:53.000 And I'm very happy to see the whole world paying attention right now with excitement about who's going to be elected to be this father, really, for people of faith.
00:21:03.000 I mean, he is, of course, the Pope for the Catholic Church, but I think Christians of all backgrounds look to the moral clarity.
00:21:09.000 I love the Holy Father.
00:21:10.000 So no matter who it is, we're going to have a pro-life pope, and it's just a question of his different personality, his different approach.
00:21:17.000 But either way, God's got it, and it's going to be great.
00:21:20.000 So I love that.
00:21:22.000 Thank you, Lila.
00:21:23.000 And I want to throw back to John for a second here.
00:21:25.000 John, really quick, what is the consensus on the ground?
00:21:29.000 What does the kind of bring us into the environment on the street in Rome here?
00:21:33.000 In many ways, unexpected.
00:21:35.000 This is a very early decision.
00:21:39.000 We thought maybe Friday.
00:21:40.000 So the fact that there's a decision this quick, you know, it can mean that, you know, one of the frontrunners who we were expecting got the number of votes.
00:21:50.000 So, you know, we're all here in anticipation, waiting.
00:21:54.000 Absolutely packed crowd.
00:21:55.000 People are singing, waving flags.
00:21:58.000 There's bands playing.
00:21:59.000 If you look around, just around me, there's little perches of all the different news.
00:22:05.000 Outlets, on rooftops, just covering this moment really for the world.
00:22:10.000 So, you know, the blessing that he will give, you see there the loggia?
00:22:14.000 It's urbi et orbi.
00:22:15.000 That's a Latin for to the city and to the world.
00:22:18.000 He will give that, wishing, you know, the spirit of Christ upon all of humanity.
00:22:23.000 So just a powerful moment to be here.
00:22:26.000 And, yeah, it's wild, Charlie, I gotta admit.
00:22:30.000 Okay, Blake.
00:22:31.000 So, Blake here, we got all Catholics.
00:22:33.000 What am I looking at with all the high-stepping, kind of medieval-looking outfits?
00:22:38.000 What does that have to do with...
00:22:39.000 They're not medieval-looking.
00:22:41.000 They are literally medieval.
00:22:42.000 I know, but what is that?
00:22:43.000 I mean, I'm not being sarcastic.
00:22:44.000 I wonder, what does that have to do with Catholicism?
00:22:45.000 What is the connection?
00:22:46.000 Well, it's...
00:22:47.000 I mean, Catholicism is an old faith.
00:22:49.000 It's very much rooted in tradition.
00:22:51.000 You know, when we've talked about religion, I've told you the big thing with Catholicism that kind of sets it apart from Protestantism.
00:22:57.000 You've heard of Sola Scriptura.
00:22:59.000 Yes, I'm very familiar with that.
00:23:00.000 Which is, Protestants believe, you know, Scripture alone.
00:23:02.000 Catholics believe that there is tradition as something in addition to Scripture.
00:23:07.000 Correct.
00:23:07.000 That the practices of the early church guide us.
00:23:11.000 And, okay, outfits are not part of that.
00:23:13.000 There's no doctrinal reason you need to do that.
00:23:15.000 But it's an old institution.
00:23:16.000 It draws a lot of its legitimacy from being old, from being continuous, from having connections to the past.
00:23:25.000 And one of the ways that manifests is you have...
00:23:28.000 You know, these outfits that they've been sporting since the Renaissance.
00:23:31.000 One of the funniest ones you can see is, you should look up what the Swiss Guards wear.
00:23:35.000 The Swiss Guard outfits are quite colorful.
00:23:38.000 They were literally, I'm not making this up, they were designed by Michelangelo.
00:23:42.000 That one.
00:23:42.000 Sistine Chapel ceiling.
00:23:44.000 Statue of David.
00:23:45.000 He also designed those outfits.
00:23:47.000 Probably not on par with his other artistic achievements, but they have their place.
00:23:54.000 And so that's what you're seeing.
00:23:56.000 You're seeing the visual element of the Catholic Church as this very old institution.
00:24:03.000 And the way conclaves are done is very much the way conclaves have been done for hundreds of years, except for the smoke thing, actually.
00:24:10.000 The smoke thing is only about 100 years old.
00:24:12.000 Only 100?
00:24:12.000 Is that right?
00:24:13.000 Yeah.
00:24:14.000 I thought that would be like 20th century innovation.
00:24:17.000 John Yep, come on in.
00:24:19.000 I believe, like Blake said, Benedict XV in the early 1900s is the first one that used white smoke.
00:24:26.000 However, the tradition of actually using smoke signals, I do believe, Blake correct me, that does go back to roughly 1325.
00:24:35.000 So that's when the Pope at the time basically wanted to reign in everyone.
00:24:40.000 What was the first place?
00:24:41.000 He was concerned of having undue influences from outside, whether it be superpowers or you name it.
00:24:48.000 So he gathered and sequestered the Cardinals for the first time in a key room, a conclave, so that they could carefully make a decision.
00:24:55.000 And that's the birth of the smoke signal.
00:24:57.000 But the white smoke was first used in the early 1900s.
00:25:01.000 1900s, yeah.
00:25:04.000 Hey everybody, Charlie Kirk here.

00:26:06.000 At the end of the day, the Pope is true blue a Christian, and so you might look at him through a certain lens of American politics or European politics, but he's going to stand for the moral teachings of the Christian faith, and that's what his job is, to stand up for Jesus Christ, even when it's politically popular or not.
00:26:24.000 I'll speak to it if you want.
00:26:26.000 Charlie, should we talk about it?
00:26:27.000 Connect it with what we're talking about here and how the church needs to speak out against it, what you're covering.
00:26:34.000 Sure.
00:26:35.000 Sure, so Live Action, the pro-life group that I lead just launched a new investigative report yesterday.
00:26:43.000 Pro-life is the biggest issue, the biggest cultural issue, I would argue, for any of us to be concerned with as Christians.
00:26:49.000 It's the killing of our unborn brothers and sisters.
00:26:51.000 But the biggest abortion chain is Planned Parenthood.
00:26:54.000 And they are not just killing 1,000 babies a day in the United States.
00:26:58.000 They're also giving cross-sex hormones to 16-year-olds.
00:27:02.000 Our investigation shows that 16-year-olds call it Planned Parenthood, and they just...
00:27:06.000 Prescribed testosterone to young girls, progesterone to boys, and there's no question about the mental health issues that they might face.
00:27:18.000 There's no actual counseling appointment, none of that.
00:27:21.000 So long story short, Planned Parenthood is receiving $700 million in taxpayer funds.
00:27:25.000 That needs to be cut.
00:27:27.000 Starley, I know you've outspoken on this, and the Holy Father is very outspoken on abortion.
00:27:32.000 You know, Pope Francis called abortion like it was hiring a hitman.
00:27:36.000 That's how bad abortion was.
00:27:38.000 So I think no matter who the Holy Father is, he's going to be very pro-life.
00:27:41.000 And we have our work to do cut out for us in the United States.
00:27:44.000 We've got to defund Planned Parenthood.
00:27:45.000 We're allowing the funding of this big abortion chain that's also transing the youth.
00:27:49.000 And it's completely atrocious.
00:27:51.000 atrocious.
00:27:52.000 So I want to now get John in here.
00:27:55.000 I think we're also going to get Jack Posobiec here.
00:28:01.000 What is happening right now at this moment?
00:28:04.000 Are all the Cardinals basically in a moment of celebration?
00:28:06.000 Is that fair to say?
00:28:07.000 What exactly is happening right now, and then what can we expect imminently?
00:28:12.000 Well, you see the Cardinals from the picture.
00:28:14.000 Some of them are already gathered in the square.
00:28:16.000 I also just ran into one on the way up the elevator, which means they have had some time now to exit the Sistine Chapel.
00:28:26.000 Get into position with the crowd, which of course means that the new Holy Father is probably already in the Room of Tears, so to speak.
00:28:33.000 That's the chamber adjacent to the Sistine Chapel.
00:28:36.000 It's called the Room of Tears because that's where popes in the past, who once they've been chosen, officially accept.
00:28:44.000 And yes, they do shed some tears.
00:28:46.000 Why?
00:28:47.000 Because they're acutely aware they're basically receiving a cross.
00:28:51.000 Which, you know, they'll carry pretty much until they die.
00:28:55.000 So the new pope is in there.
00:28:57.000 He's changing from the red to the white.
00:28:59.000 He's already selected his name because he had to tell the cardinals.
00:29:02.000 So the cardinals do know who it is, of course, and the name.
00:29:05.000 And he will be coming out on the square.
00:29:08.000 And you're going to have the archdeacon, a cardinal, who will say those famous words.
00:29:14.000 Gaudio Magno Annuncio Vobis.
00:29:17.000 With great joy, I announce to you...
00:29:20.000 The name of the new pope, right?
00:29:22.000 So that's what's happening.
00:29:23.000 So I would expect, honestly, Charlie, you're going to see the new pope maybe within 15 minutes up there in the loja.
00:29:29.000 Okay, very good.
00:29:32.000 So, Lila, I know you have to dash here in just a second.
00:29:34.000 Please plug again the great work you're doing and your final sign-off here for everyone watching.
00:29:39.000 Thank you.
00:29:40.000 Super pumped for the Pope.
00:29:41.000 He's going to be pro-life no matter who he is, so I'm not worried about that.
00:29:44.000 And that's the confidence we have as Catholics, is that this Holy Father is going to be true north on moral teachings and the theological foundations of our Christian faith.
00:29:54.000 And that's the gift that we have in a Holy Father who, by the Holy Spirit's power, not his own power, by the Holy Spirit's power, is going to guide the church.
00:30:02.000 And that's why the Catholic Church has never changed its teachings on things like abortion, on marriage, on these core theological doctrines.
00:30:09.000 The Trinity, the Divinity of Christ.
00:30:11.000 These are teachings that have lasted 2,000 years.
00:30:14.000 Check out the work of Live Action.
00:30:16.000 We are launching new investigative reports exposing the abortion industry.
00:30:21.000 That's our job as Christians, to stand up and speak out for the most vulnerable.
00:30:24.000 And we urge President Trump, you know, who has been outspoken against the transgender agenda, to defund Planned Parenthood because they're transing young people.
00:30:34.000 Our investigation exposed that.
00:30:36.000 And they're killing babies in the womb.
00:30:38.000 We're a thousand of them a day.
00:30:39.000 So this is a time for action, both for Christians to pray for our new Holy Father and I believe for people of faith to call for the administration to defund Planned Parenthood.
00:30:48.000 We should absolutely defund Planned Parenthood.
00:30:50.000 I totally agree.
00:30:51.000 Lila, thank you.
00:30:52.000 John, stay there.
00:30:53.000 We're going to try to get Jack in, but he's having Wi-Fi connection issues.
00:30:57.000 All of you watching right now, we're about to witness history together.
00:31:00.000 You only get a new pope every 7 to 15 years on average.
00:31:04.000 It's a big deal.
00:31:04.000 Yeah.
00:31:05.000 We'll only see a few of these.
00:31:06.000 When was Francis elected?
00:31:08.000 2013.
00:31:09.000 Wow.
00:31:10.000 12 years.
00:31:11.000 It's amazing.
00:31:12.000 So, Blake, I would venture to guess that the majority of this audience is actually not Catholic.
00:31:16.000 This is of great profundity.
00:31:17.000 This is 264 popes, I think they're saying.
00:31:22.000 And it is kind of a rapid conclusion to the conclave.
00:31:25.000 So this is all speculation.
00:31:26.000 But when we have a shorter conclave...
00:31:28.000 What correlation does that usually give us, or is there no such correlation?
00:31:32.000 So definitely, as we like to do now, we check the odds, and of course there was betting odds.
00:31:36.000 Is there betting odds?
00:31:37.000 Yeah, there were betting odds on the Pope.
00:31:38.000 You're kidding me.
00:31:39.000 What has happened is, with the fast conclave, the odds that it was Cardinal Perolin, I don't know how you say these things, that went up.
00:31:48.000 As I told you, he's kind of the centrist, he's like the boring pick.
00:31:54.000 He would be the sort of let's not shake anything up too much choice.
00:31:59.000 And it's very possible you got that if you got a pick on this is probably, I think, only the fourth ballot.
00:32:05.000 So you probably didn't have any dramatic swerves to a dark horse candidate out of nowhere.
00:32:10.000 If you're only going three or four ballots, it might have been, you know, one or two to shake out very unlikely contenders.
00:32:16.000 And then we have two thirds.
00:32:18.000 There we go.
00:32:18.000 Of course, this could all be proven wrong in.
00:32:21.000 So, but that is...
00:32:25.000 If you're getting one out very quickly, it's probably they were able to pretty quickly have the different wings of the church agree on some sort of, sometimes they'll say compromise pick or just consensus pick or a choice who's not going to rock the boat too much in one direction or the other.
00:32:42.000 John, what comment do you have on this?
00:32:44.000 Can you also speak to the international aspect here?
00:32:48.000 I'm seeing flags from all over the planet.
00:32:50.000 Talk about how there are people from all over the world that are gathering at St. Peter's Basilica and Square.
00:32:57.000 There are, and this kind of builds on Lila's point.
00:33:00.000 I mean, yes, on the fundamental issues of faith and morality, the Pope's not going to err.
00:33:04.000 But the reality is the following.
00:33:06.000 We did have a Pope who caught scandal in this last pontificate, 100%.
00:33:11.000 So why am I saying that now?
00:33:13.000 Because we have a duty like St. Paul in the book of Galatians.
00:33:16.000 He addressed Peter to his face.
00:33:19.000 When Peter, on a prudential issue, was going against ultimately what the Lord wanted.
00:33:23.000 And Paul stood up to him.
00:33:25.000 And that's the role.
00:33:26.000 So it's not a slam dunk that we're going to get this amazing all-star representative of the Lord Jesus on that loggia.
00:33:31.000 It could be quite the opposite.
00:33:33.000 I'm telling you right now.
00:33:34.000 Because, you know, newsflash, there are serious, worldly influences who are trying to make their presence felt in this conclave.
00:33:41.000 You have, first of all, you have President Macron, who was here for the funeral of Pope Francis.
00:33:46.000 He met up with five different French cardinals, and he pretty much got his hand slapped.
00:33:51.000 It says, like, back off.
00:33:52.000 Like, stop.
00:33:52.000 Because, you know, he had his pick in mind.
00:33:55.000 Then you have the Chinese Communist Party.
00:33:57.000 They have a fantastic deal going on right now with the Vatican, where the Vatican gave them the ability to choose bishops.
00:34:02.000 There was probably some cash flow between the two entities.
00:34:05.000 So you've got to believe it that the CCP has their pick.
00:34:08.000 So this is not a slam dunk.
00:34:10.000 And, you know, whoever that man is, because of the short bandwidth, like you said, I do expect one of the frontrunners who we expected to be elected might show up there.
00:34:23.000 So it's some very interesting times, which we're going to find out the next kind of, like you just said, seven to ten years of a plan or program for the Church of Evangelization through the person that they choose.
00:34:39.000 Okay, so Blake, what are you seeing?
00:34:40.000 What chatter here?
00:34:42.000 I mean, look, there's exuberation that we have a new pope.
00:34:45.000 My grandmother was a very devout Catholic, and in fact, so much so that I grew up...
00:34:51.000 Looking at pictures of John Paul II.
00:34:53.000 There'll be new pictures now.
00:34:54.000 Exactly.
00:34:55.000 She would watch EWTN all the time.
00:34:57.000 And so I have great reverence for Catholics.
00:35:01.000 And so, actually, let's play this.
00:35:03.000 Let's play Cut 421.
00:35:05.000 This is Jack Posobiec live from St. Peter's Square.
00:35:08.000 Let's play Cut 421.
00:35:09.000 All right, folks, we're here.
00:35:11.000 White smoke just went up.
00:35:13.000 St. Peter's Square, St. Peter's Basilica, the dome designed and built by Michelangelo himself, the head of the Catholic Church, as the faithful await to find the name of the next vicar of Christ, the next descendant, successor of St. Peter, the next pope.
00:35:36.000 Very soon.
00:35:39.000 Wow, the crowd is growing dramatically now.
00:35:42.000 It is just really something.
00:35:44.000 John, do you want to chime in there?
00:35:46.000 Charlie, yeah.
00:35:47.000 So, I mean, you're looking, squares completely packed.
00:35:50.000 Now, what you can see on camera is the Via Conciliazione, which is the main street that goes from St. Peter's all the way down to the Tiber River.
00:36:00.000 That street was actually put in there by President Mussolini in 1929 as a gift to the Vatican.
00:36:07.000 To kind of create some grandeur and a view, etc.
00:36:10.000 Well, that street is completely packed all the way down to the Tiber River.
00:36:15.000 So you're looking at probably nearing 100,000 people.
00:36:18.000 And it's just growing.
00:36:20.000 The entire city of Rome just descended upon this.
00:36:23.000 I was here, Charlie, in 2013.
00:36:25.000 And by the way, I got my grandma too.
00:36:27.000 May she rest in peace.
00:36:28.000 She was also an aficionado of EWTN.
00:36:34.000 So we share that.
00:36:35.000 We share that in common, Charlie.
00:36:37.000 But in 2013, I was here for Pope Francis' election.
00:36:40.000 And we remember I was a seminarian back then, so I was wearing black and white.
00:36:44.000 And I ran down two miles, hitchhiked part of the way from a kind Italian signorita.
00:36:50.000 And she brought me there, and we were there, you know?
00:36:55.000 And I'll never forget the moment when Pope Francis did come out.
00:36:58.000 And it's probably one of the rare moments in your life where you're going to have...
00:37:02.000 The ability—Charlie, you know crowds.
00:37:04.000 You see crowds all the time.
00:37:05.000 Imagine a Trump rally where you can get every single person in that room to be, like, dead-on quiet, okay?
00:37:12.000 Well, Pope Francis did that.
00:37:14.000 He—for what, 90,000 people?
00:37:15.000 Please be quiet and join me in prayer.
00:37:17.000 And to be there where two or three are gathered in my name, they're in my midst.
00:37:22.000 That's what's going to happen, people, just in a few minutes.
00:37:25.000 These people are gathered here in the name of Jesus, you know?
00:37:28.000 So— And we're going to have that moment of prayer.
00:37:30.000 And if you're watching online, you're sharing it to some degree.
00:37:34.000 So you see the genuine excitement.
00:37:36.000 Because I do think it's not just fanfare and fluff and like you're seeing a rock star.
00:37:43.000 There's truly a spiritual element going on here.
00:37:46.000 Those people are standing precisely where St. Peter himself was martyred in 67 AD.
00:37:52.000 That is the man that Jesus Christ called on the Sea of Galilee.
00:37:56.000 He was martyred in that square, and he's buried now underneath the basilica.
00:37:59.000 So people are standing on the holy ground of martyrs as we wait for this person who represents Christ here on Earth for us to show up.
00:38:09.000 Blake, do you want to comment on that?
00:38:11.000 We got Jack looks like.
00:38:13.000 Oh my goodness, Jack is coming in also from Rome.
00:38:15.000 Who's got better coverage than us?
00:38:17.000 No one.
00:38:18.000 We're in pretty good shape.
00:38:19.000 Blake, you're going to comment on something?
00:38:20.000 No, no, no.
00:38:21.000 Charlie, I'm not going to tell you what network I...
00:38:28.000 Jack, are you here?
00:38:34.000 Can you hear us?
00:38:35.000 I don't know.
00:38:36.000 Jack?
00:38:36.000 Yeah, Charlie, I can hear you guys fine.
00:38:38.000 And actually, I've just stepped out from St. Peter's Square is directly behind me.
00:38:43.000 That's the only place I could find any Wi-Fi connection.
00:38:47.000 But yeah, I'm hearing you fine.
00:38:48.000 I hope you guys can hear me fine.
00:38:50.000 It is absolute pandemonium.
00:38:52.000 As Catholics are ecstatic, coming out, waiting, the white smoke went up just about 45 minutes ago, give or take, and the square is flooded.
00:39:02.000 We're going to see at least 60,000 people here.
00:39:05.000 Barricades have come down, the Carbonari, the Italian police, the Vatican police, they're just letting people in.
00:39:11.000 My brother Kevin is actually, they made a big mistake and they gave him a press pass.
00:39:16.000 So Kevin is actually up on the roof of the Vatican columns right now getting footage.
00:39:22.000 He doesn't have a signal, but we're going to have that footage as soon We're all waiting for the announcement of the next pope.
00:39:31.000 We'll be walking out of that balcony very, very soon.

00:40:39.000 So Jack, just as a Catholic, what has this meant?
00:40:42.000 Is this your first conclave, Jack?
00:40:43.000 Or is this, have you been to one prior?
00:40:45.000 My first conclave.
00:40:46.000 Wow, what has this meant for you?
00:40:48.000 This is my very first conclave.
00:40:49.000 What has this experience been?
00:40:51.000 I mean, here you get to go to an inauguration and a conclave in the same year, within a couple months.
00:40:57.000 How has that been for you, Jack?
00:40:59.000 You know, Charlie, one thing I'm definitely guilty of, and I suppose I'll have to bring up my next confession, is that I've always kind of been, you know, focused on the next mission.
00:41:09.000 And, you know, it's interesting you ask me a question like that, because something my wife brings up often, she said, you really need to take time to step back and think about it.
00:41:16.000 And I'll just say, as a kid who grew up in the Philadelphia Archdiocese, John Paul II was the Pope, but, you know, the Pope really only comes to America.
00:41:24.000 Very rarely, a couple of times during a papacy, usually like literally one or two when I say a couple.
00:41:30.000 So the thought that I would actually be in Rome, walking the streets of the Holy City, walking through St. Peter's Square like this, it's absolutely surreal.
00:41:43.000 It's something that...
00:41:44.000 You know, I don't know.
00:41:46.000 I think of my mom, I guess, you know, trying to get me out of bed early on a Sunday morning and saying, come on, we've got to get to Mass.
00:41:52.000 We've got to get dressed up.
00:41:53.000 We have to be there.
00:41:54.000 Never thought in a million years that I'd be part of something like this, which is absolute history and is really going to set the stage for the trajectory, not just for Catholics, but for Western civilization writ large.
00:42:08.000 Yeah, so Charlie just stepped out for a second here.
00:42:10.000 We could be getting the Pope literally any second at this point.
00:42:14.000 They said about an hour.
00:42:15.000 It has been about an hour now, and so it could be happening at any time.
00:42:19.000 Just for fun, Jack, what name are you hoping that the new Pope will take?
00:42:25.000 Well, oh, the name he'll take?
00:42:27.000 Oh, gosh.
00:42:28.000 You know, I'd love to see another Pope, Pius.
00:42:31.000 John Paul III, you know, that'd be kind of interesting, following in the footsteps of John Paul II.
00:42:36.000 It's been a while since we've had a Linus.
00:42:39.000 You know, I've always actually been a fan of Pope Linus II.
00:42:42.000 He doesn't usually get as much filling, of course, as some of the others, but I've always been a real student of his papacy.
00:42:50.000 We've even had a Pope Valentine, so we could have a Pope Valentine II.
00:42:54.000 Yeah, I think personally, I'd love to see another Pope Pius XIII, I believe, would be the next one.
00:43:01.000 And I think that would be just a way to continue the traditional line within the church, as opposed to a pope that would be going more in the vein of Francis, the Jesuit modernist line.
00:43:13.000 And a lot of people are saying, Blake, that because the pope was chosen on this fourth ballot very early, so you've had not even...
00:43:21.000 Really not even, just 24 hours of the conflate from when it began until now, 24 hours of voting.
00:43:28.000 Bergoglio, when he was cardinal, was chosen on the fifth ballot, so also on day two, like we're seeing right now.
00:43:34.000 So there's a lot of people saying, you know, is it possible that we did get a progressive continuation of Francis, or is it possible that we found someone who was more of a bridge between the two?
00:43:46.000 A bridge between the progressives and the traditionalists, someone who's willing to actually balance out those two.
00:43:53.000 Because while the modernists have made great progress in their eyes, it's really been the traditionalists that have seen a huge surge across Europe and North America with people flooding into the Latin Mass.
00:44:06.000 And, of course, Pope Francis was not so keen to some elements of the Latin Mass.
00:44:12.000 So this, of course, was in the vein of Pope.
00:44:15.000 Benedict, who also really only passed away a couple years ago.
00:44:18.000 So we've had quite a few popes in just the last five years.
00:44:22.000 So, John, same question to you.
00:44:25.000 What would you say to the question that Blake posed?
00:44:28.000 I got a crazy proposal.
00:44:30.000 You remember the 21 Coptic Christians who had their necks slit and offered their lives for Christ?
00:44:36.000 We just celebrated, well, the 10th year anniversary.
00:44:39.000 How about the new pope choose one of the names of those martyrs?
00:44:42.000 Why?
00:44:43.000 To bring it home, that that office, that role of the Holy Father, that is not some political position.
00:44:49.000 They are there to witness to Christ, and if need be, shed their blood.
00:44:53.000 That needs to be brought back to the church, to church leaders across the world of all faiths.
00:44:59.000 We've lost that.
00:45:00.000 We've gotten way too comfortable across the spectrum.
00:45:03.000 Until you see men who are willing to just do like what Peter did, shed his blood for the Lord.
00:45:10.000 We're not going to see massive conversions, and we need that today in this world.
00:45:14.000 Can you speak, John, about how the Church and the Pope needs to not just speak out against the cultural degeneracy and wokeism and all that stuff, but also about Islam?
00:45:26.000 It seems as if there's been a little bit of silence, from my liking, from the Vatican, on the rise of Mohammedism throughout Europe.
00:45:32.000 Your thoughts, John, yep.
00:45:34.000 We're right there with you, Charlie.
00:45:35.000 You had a great segment the other day talking about Islam taking over parts of Texas.
00:45:38.000 That's right.
00:45:40.000 They're a religion.
00:45:42.000 Let's be honest.
00:45:43.000 You've got to go by the book.
00:45:44.000 Yes, the principle, not every Muslim is bad.
00:45:46.000 There are some very, quote-unquote, virtuous Muslims.
00:45:48.000 We get that, 100%.
00:45:49.000 But in terms of its philosophy, the Koran, it is a quasi-religion, if you can call that, of warfare, of conquest.
00:45:59.000 And it does not sync with human nature.
00:46:02.000 Okay, that's one of the defining characteristics of what a religion is.
00:46:05.000 It must sync with the natural law.
00:46:07.000 That's why Christianity, Judaism...
00:46:09.000 They fit so well with what America is.
00:46:12.000 Sharia law, for instance, that diminishes human nature and the dignity of man and woman.
00:46:20.000 It's a serious issue.
00:46:22.000 The longer we try to avoid it, the bigger problem we're going to have.
00:46:28.000 Charlie, step back, too.
00:46:30.000 We're looking at this question of Islam in a 25-year little time frame.
00:46:35.000 Let's go back to the first 1,500 years since Islam began.
00:46:40.000 Look at what Christians have done across Europe.
00:46:42.000 Jack's an expert at this.
00:46:44.000 1683, the Battle of Vienna.
00:46:47.000 Christians rose.
00:46:49.000 I hear applause.
00:46:50.000 What's going on, Charlie?
00:46:52.000 Let's cut live.
00:46:53.000 Let's just cut live to the feed and speak for itself, okay?
00:46:57.000 Let's do that, and you're about to see history.
00:47:04.000 OK, there's movement.
00:47:06.000 OK.
00:47:07.000 Here we go.
00:47:08.000 The white curtains are behind the grass door.
00:47:09.000 Now the doors are open.
00:47:13.000 Racy first.
00:47:15.000 Here we are.
00:47:18.000 And he's smiling.
00:47:24.000 He's smiling.
00:47:24.000 He will give us the announcement.
00:47:26.000 Here we are.
00:47:41.000 Annunzio vobis gaudium magnum.
00:47:46.000 Annunzio vobis gaudium magnum.
00:47:52.000 Habemus Papam!
00:47:54.000 Amen.
00:47:57.000 Amen.
00:48:02.000 Eminentissimum!
00:48:04.000 Ac reverendissimum Dominum, Dominum Robertum Franciscum, Sancte Romane Ecclesiae Cardinalem Prevost, qui sibi nomen imposuit Leonem Decimum Quartum.
00:48:26.000 mom So, the Pope is Cardinal Robert Francis Provost, who's taken the name of Leo XIV, Pope Leo XIV.
00:48:52.000 Cardinal Provost is an American, and he spent most of his ministry in Latin America, in Peru, and also in Paraguay.
00:49:03.000 And he's an Augustinian father.
00:49:08.000 He was the provincial in Latin America and then became the bishop of Chiclayo in Peru.
00:49:19.000 And he then is also, he became the superior general of the Augustinian Fathers as well.
00:49:27.000 He's now the, he's been the prefection.
00:49:30.000 That is the first American pope, is that right?
00:49:33.000 If we heard that correctly.
00:49:35.000 Robert Francis Provost.
00:49:37.000 Pope Leo XIV.
00:49:40.000 John, that is the first ever American Pope.
00:49:43.000 John, this was not on anyone's card.
00:49:48.000 John, please.
00:49:49.000 Sort of.
00:49:51.000 This guy came in the running the last minute.
00:49:54.000 Now, to be quite frank, roughly three days ago, Charlie, in a span of roughly 36 hours, every single major...
00:50:05.000 What you and I would call liberal-leaning outlet ran PR stories in favor of this guy.
00:50:12.000 That includes the New York Times, I think the Guardian had an article, and this guy, a National Catholic Reporter, which is like the anti-Catholic paper, okay?
00:50:21.000 So all these papers all of a sudden did this huge ground support for Robert Prevost, okay?
00:50:29.000 So what does that, I mean...
00:50:31.000 Where does that tell you about what kind of man this is?
00:50:34.000 I mean, time will tell.
00:50:35.000 I self-immunity do not know him well.
00:50:38.000 I have heard concerns about him, that he leans in the direction of Francis.
00:50:45.000 But, you know, let's give this guy, of course, the benefit of the doubt.
00:50:49.000 If he hasn't even come out of the logic yet, let's just see, you know, who he is and how he will govern the church in this next time ahead.
00:50:58.000 But just that is an interesting biographical fact.
00:51:00.000 That he shot to the head of everyone's thoughts and minds about three days ago.
00:51:06.000 Okay, well, the first American pope.
00:51:07.000 Keep talking, John.
00:51:09.000 He seems to be, some people say he's a centrist, blending progressivism with traditional doctrine, born in Chicago, so I have that in common.
00:51:19.000 So, what do we think here, John?
00:51:21.000 Why do you think he was selected?
00:51:23.000 Okay, so there's the U.S. element.
00:51:24.000 That's right.
00:51:25.000 I mean, he's lived all around, born in the best city in the world, Chicago, where I'm also from, Charlie.
00:51:30.000 You know, there's an American element here, too.
00:51:33.000 And let me tell you why that might be.
00:51:35.000 Again, like we've said before, traditionally almost never does a conclave choose a pope from the world's reigning superpower just for prudential reasons.
00:51:43.000 But there's a pragmatic reality going on here.
00:51:46.000 The Vatican is almost bankrupt, right?
00:51:50.000 People stopped giving to the Vatican in the last 12 years.
00:51:53.000 And honestly, it was well-deserved.
00:51:56.000 I mean, for instance, we had money that we had given.
00:51:59.000 That's Catholics across the world to the Peter's Pence collection.
00:52:02.000 Pope Francis, in his wisdom, decided to give half a million to the immigrant migration bans that were coming across to our border.
00:52:10.000 So Americans were rightly upset.
00:52:12.000 Now, when you piss off Americans, considering that we fund, you know, I'm just taking a ballpark guess, at least 50% of the Vatican, okay?
00:52:23.000 Well, that's not a good business model.
00:52:25.000 So this week coincided with what's called America Week, when a lot of the bigger-name Catholic American philanthropists gather in Rome once a year, and they kind of discuss where they want to get their money, which is a great thing.
00:52:37.000 Well, I know that they made their presence felt, saying, you know, we definitely want a pope who's going to bring things back.
00:52:45.000 So who knows?
00:52:46.000 That might be a contributing factor that...
00:52:48.000 The conclave knew that it had to get the good graces of the American lady back there to help with their financial situation because obviously they do some good work.
00:52:56.000 The Vatican does there with the works at charity.
00:52:59.000 So that might be an interesting angle about why there you go.
00:53:03.000 You got the flag in the square.
00:53:04.000 You got the red, white, and blue flying proud there.
00:53:08.000 So it's interesting, Charlie.
00:53:10.000 Time will tell about where Pope Prevost or whoever the name is.
00:53:14.000 I missed the name.
00:53:15.000 Or Leo XIV.
00:53:16.000 How Pope Leo XIV will conduct his affairs.
00:53:20.000 Do we still have...
00:53:20.000 So, Blake, this is a shock.
00:53:22.000 First ever American pope.
00:53:24.000 I was literally yesterday, I was telling one of the staffers, I was like, okay, there's various contenders.
00:53:27.000 They'll probably never pick an American pope.
00:53:30.000 I just got...
00:53:31.000 I got owned very badly.
00:53:33.000 I did fortunately say, all predictions wrong are your money back.
00:53:37.000 And you get total surprise ones.
00:53:39.000 And this is definitely...
00:53:42.000 Like you said, there was some coverage of him as a potential pope, but very much second, third tier even of the potential candidates.
00:53:51.000 There will be a lot of efforts to define him.
00:53:53.000 I suspect this can go in directions people don't expect very quickly, so I don't want to assume anything.
00:54:01.000 He might be, I'm looking, trying to see here, he might be the first August order of St. Augustine.
00:54:06.000 You were asking me about orders of priests just the other day.
00:54:11.000 I think he might be the first pope from that order.
00:54:14.000 He was the prior of them.
00:54:16.000 But, oh man, this is big.
00:54:20.000 I had a weird feeling.
00:54:21.000 I was like, what if it's from America?
00:54:22.000 And I was like, nah, no way.
00:54:24.000 Yes, John?
00:54:25.000 There's one thing, too.
00:54:26.000 The reality of the modern language.
00:54:28.000 I mean, we don't speak Latin anymore.
00:54:30.000 And, you know, we need a pope that can handle the English language really well, right?
00:54:35.000 It's the governing language of the world.
00:54:37.000 So we missed that under Francis.
00:54:40.000 And a lot of times there was confusion about what did he really mean?
00:54:43.000 He was speaking in Italian, he was speaking in Spanish.
00:54:45.000 Well, we now have a pope who can handle himself well because he's going to be dealing with leaders from all over the world.
00:54:51.000 And that is, like we know, it's the language of the new French.
00:54:57.000 It's what politicians speak among themselves.
00:54:59.000 So in that sense, it's a good thing.
00:55:03.000 Hey everyone, Charlie Kirk here.
00:55:05.000 You worked hard, raised your family, paid your taxes, and followed the rules, and now you're watching the country you love being torn apart by the radical left.
00:55:12.000 You're asking, what can I do?
00:55:13.000 Well, you're not alone, and you're not powerless.
00:55:15.000 President Trump is back in the White House, and he's taking bold action, fixing trade with tariffs that actually help American workers, cutting government waste and standing up for Christian values.
00:55:24.000 But he can't win this fight without you.
00:55:26.000 That's why I want you to join AMAC, the organization for patriotic Americans over 50 who still believe in America.
00:55:32.000 AMAC stands for your values, freedom, faith, and fiscal sanity, and it's just $16 a year.
00:55:38.000 You'll get a subscription to the AMAC Magazine, access to exclusive money-saving discounts, and most importantly, you'll be part of something bigger than yourself.
00:55:45.000 Go to amac.us slash charlie, that is amac.us slash charlie, and join the fight to save this country.
00:55:51.000 Let's do this together.
00:55:54.000 Okay, continue.
00:55:55.000 We have a new pope.
00:55:57.000 I saw this, I was like, wait, Robert Prevost?
00:56:00.000 That's an American.
00:56:02.000 John, please keep going.
00:56:04.000 So that report was essential, okay?
00:56:07.000 You have, because of the number of Cardinals who were named, we already know that a lot of them didn't know each other.
00:56:11.000 It was the lady who basically took it upon themselves, specifically Edward Penton, fantastic reporter, and Diane Montano, who was actually standing right next to me, and put together that report, and they gave that to the Cardinals.
00:56:24.000 They were literally standing outside those preparatory meetings and delivering those books to them.
00:56:29.000 So those Cardinals, we're reading that, okay?
00:56:32.000 That scorecard, which I briefly went through it, I mean, maybe, Charlie, you can kind of mention on air what that report grades Robert Prevost on certain issues, because that's very telling.
00:56:44.000 Yeah, so he's against female deacons.
00:56:48.000 He is ambiguous on blessing same-sex couples.
00:56:52.000 He is in favor of promoting a synodal church.
00:56:56.000 Do you know what that is?
00:56:57.000 Yeah, like synods.
00:56:58.000 Synodal church.
00:56:58.000 Look, No, no, no, no.
00:57:00.000 Go keep going.
00:57:01.000 Please, John.
00:57:02.000 Please.
00:57:02.000 Here we go.
00:57:03.000 He's coming out.
00:57:04.000 All right, let's go full screen.
00:57:05.000 Let's watch it.
00:57:06.000 Thank you.
00:57:06.000 John, you've been great.
00:57:07.000 This is terrific.
00:57:08.000 Let's go full screen.
00:57:09.000 Liz Lev was talking about the Pauline Chapel, and that's where the new pope, now Pope Leo XIV, when he will walk down this hallway in the chapel, and at the end of the chapel is an image of...
00:57:26.000 Peter crucified upside down, but the artist turned his head so that when the new pope is walking down the hallway, Peter's eyes are falling up.
00:57:35.000 Here we are.
00:57:36.000 Here we are.
00:57:37.000 Pope D. XIV is now here.
00:57:40.000 Coming to the central loggia of the Basilica.
00:57:43.000 For a special moment.
00:57:47.000 There he is.
00:57:50.000 There he is.
00:57:51.000 The applause going up, the greeting, the waving.
00:57:55.000 Big smiles.
00:57:57.000 How amazing.
00:58:01.000 Dr. Elizabeth was also talking about the symbolism of the red that he's wearing.
00:58:06.000 You know, it is a sacrificial roll and that is the symbol of the clock that he's wearing right now.
00:58:14.000 We see this beautiful close-up view from the side there at the same level as the Lord John.
00:58:23.000 We're clear the 14th.
00:58:24.000 We're clear the 14th.
00:58:25.000 Amazing.
00:58:26.000 Smiling.
00:58:27.000 And you can see who wouldn't be taken by the moment.
00:58:33.000 I think going through his mind, you know, the weight of this responsibility.
00:58:39.000 Oh, yeah.
00:58:42.000 You can see it on his face.
00:58:44.000 You can see it on his face.
00:58:46.000 Amazing.
00:58:47.000 After this, we're never the same person.
00:58:49.000 And we're hearing the bands below.
00:58:53.000 And the mutual salute of the hymns, the Vatican hymn and the Italian National Anthem, as we do traditionally through Easter and Christmas this week.
00:59:06.000 And after this, now, Pope Leo XIV, he will give a greeting and impart his first apostolic blessing, the Urbiet Urbi, to the city and to the whole.
00:59:16.000 So that blessing extends to everyone who is watching, everyone who is listening, your family, wherever you are.
00:59:24.000 It's a great moment to prepare ourselves for this first blessing.
00:59:31.000 This most solemn blessing.
00:59:32.000 can just feel and see the emotion on his face.
00:59:44.000 And the crowds there gathered in St. Peter's Square, still arriving, we're being told, from the avenues surrounding the Vatican there, the streets.
00:59:55.000 I'm going to go to the next one.
01:00:01.000 So, just getting messages here: "Congratulations!
01:00:04.000 God bless the Pope!" And you can hear the chanting from the square.
01:00:14.000 Long live the Pope.
01:00:15.000 Viva Papa!
01:00:22.000 Viva Papa!
01:00:29.000 We're all silent now, awaiting his first words.
01:00:39.000 La pace sia con tutti voi!
01:00:42.000 Grazie!
01:01:17.000 to all peoples, to all the earth, peace is with you.
01:01:45.000 We're just hearing the first words of Popolio XIV.
01:01:47.000 As he continues, we'll provide a summary here in just a moment as we listen to his words.
01:01:52.000 He's asked everyone to...
01:01:55.000 This is the peace of the risen Christ.
01:02:03.000 A peace that is disarming and humble and persevering.
01:02:07.000 It comes from God.
01:02:10.000 God who loves all of us without any limits and conditions.
01:02:15.000 Again.
01:02:20.000 Amen.
01:02:23.000 And we still have the sound in our ears of the weak voice of Pope Francis who is blessing Rome here.
01:02:34.000 We have that fresh in our minds, in our hearts.
01:02:37.000 In our ears, hearing his voice, the Pope who was blessing Rome, giving his blessing to the world on that morning, on that day of Easter Sunday.
01:02:50.000 Allow me to continue that same blessing.
01:02:57.000 God loves everyone.
01:03:02.000 Evil will not prevail.
01:03:05.000 We are all in the hands of God.
01:03:11.000 So without fear, united, hand in hand, with God and among ourselves, we go forward.
01:03:20.000 We are disciples of Christ.
01:03:24.000 Christ goes before us.
01:03:27.000 The world needs His light.
01:03:35.000 Humanity needs him.
01:03:36.000 As the bridge between God and his love.
01:03:47.000 May we all build bridges with dialogue and encounter so that we can all be one people, all in peace.
01:03:59.000 Thank you, Pope Francis, for all you've done.
01:04:06.000 We're hearing the first words here of Pope Leo XIV, just elected Pope.
01:04:13.000 Voleo ringraziare anche tutti confratelli I'd like to also thank my brother Cardinals who chose me to be the successor of Pietro and to walk along with you, searching all together for peace and justice and working together, men and women faithful.
01:04:40.000 To Christ without fear.
01:04:42.000 To proclaim the Gospel.
01:04:45.000 to be missionaries.
01:04:52.000 Leo offering these initial words which were just translating on the fly here.
01:05:00.000 I'm a son of St. Augustine.
01:05:02.000 Amen.
01:05:03.000 Augustinian.
01:05:03.000 He said, with you I am Christian.
01:05:11.000 We said, "With you I am a Christian, and for you I am a bishop." So, may we all walk together towards that to the place that God has prepared for us.
01:05:31.000 May we walk together, accompany each other to the Church.
01:05:37.000 A special greeting.
01:05:40.000 That's Bishop of Rome, of course.
01:05:42.000 A special greeting.
01:05:47.000 We've got to look at how we can together be a missionary church.
01:05:53.000 A church that builds bridges.
01:05:57.000 That is always open to receive everyone.
01:06:03.000 Just like in this square, to receive everyone, to welcome everyone.
01:06:06.000 Our charity, our dialogue and love.
01:06:10.000 Thank you.
01:06:15.000 And now, a greeting in Spanish.
01:06:20.000 Please allow me here to.
01:06:22.000 A todos aquellos, y modo particular a mi querida diócesis de Chiclán.
01:06:29.000 To all of you, but especially to the people of my diocese of Chiclayo in Peru.
01:06:44.000 Where we had such faithful people accompanying the bishop and we had such faithful people helping the bishop.
01:06:59.000 To all of you, the people of Rome and of Italy, we need to be a synodal church, a church that's a pilgrim, that shows charity always, and especially as charitable to those who are suffering.
01:07:29.000 Today is the day of praying to the Madonna of Pompeii.
01:07:44.000 Our Blessed Mother Mary always wants to be close to us.
01:07:49.000 She always wants to receive through us, through her love.
01:07:56.000 So, let us pray together for this new mission, for all of the Church, for peace in the world.
01:08:05.000 That she will give us a special grace, our Mother.
01:08:11.000 Hail Mary, Holy Grace, the Lord is with you.
01:08:15.000 You are blessed among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus.
01:08:22.000 Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the end of our death.
01:08:30.000 Amen.
01:08:34.000 Poprio, the 14th there.
01:08:36.000 Poprio, the 14th.
01:08:37.000 Very interesting.
01:08:38.000 A few themes coming out already there from his first piece.
01:08:41.000 Talking about peace.
01:08:43.000 He's saying a greeting of peace.
01:08:44.000 May my greeting of peace enter into your hearts and reach your families, all people, wherever you are, all peoples of the entire planet.
01:08:53.000 May peace be with you.
01:08:54.000 God's peace be with you, he said.
01:08:56.000 And here we see him in his, after having given that opening and beautiful words.
01:09:03.000 Continuing also the message of Pope Francis, where he even said in Spanish and Italian: "Futti, futti, futti!" And the Holy Father, Pope Leo, and to all people...
01:09:44.000 He'll give us this most solemn blessing to the entire world, to all of you joining us.
01:09:51.000 So we now prepare ourselves to receive this solemn blessing wherever we are, at home, in your car, at work, wherever you are.
01:10:11.000 The Holy Apostles, Peter and Paul.
01:10:18.000 And we also pray to the Blessed Mary, to sing John.
01:10:38.000 Perducat vos, Iesus Christus, ad vitam eternam.
01:10:42.000 Amen.
01:10:42.000 Indulgentiam.
01:10:45.000 absolutionem et remissionem omnium peccatorum vestrorum, spatium vere et fructuose penitentie, cor semper penitens et emendationem vite.
01:11:00.000 Gratiam et consolation, Sancti Spiritus, et finalem perseverantiam in bonis operibus tribuat vovis omnipotens et misericors Dominus.
01:11:13.000 Amen.
01:11:15.000 Et benedictio Dei Omnipotentis.
01:11:20.000 Patris et Filii et Spiritus Sancti discendat supervos et maniat semper.
01:11:40.000 And we just heard the blessing there.
01:11:43.000 We see the blessing there of the 14th to the world, to the city.
01:11:48.000 This most solemn blessing to all of us and all of you listening and watching out there.
01:11:57.000 What is interesting is that he's smiling and I found very touching the fact that he made reference to his former diocese in Peru and spoke to them in Spanish.
01:12:09.000 A very, very touching moment.
01:12:11.000 I thank them for how they accompany me.
01:12:15.000 From this moment, I think we all accompany the new Holy Father with our prayers and support.
01:12:24.000 And once again, he asked, just like Pope Francis did before, he asked for continued prayers.
01:12:30.000 This is a heavy task, as we all noted before.
01:12:34.000 He continues to ask all of us for prayers and also for the intercession of Our Lady.
01:12:39.000 On the special feast day.
01:12:41.000 And he asked us especially to be bridged back, as he is one of the acts that we're told as we have.
01:12:47.000 That we should all put back on the images, both here in the Diocese of Rome, in Italy, and throughout the world.
01:12:53.000 And that we should build that on fraternity and solidarity.
01:12:58.000 And so many times Pope Francis told us the same.
01:13:04.000 There have been false debates, I think, in leading up to this about unity and diversity and things, and it's made it clear that he's looking for us to be united, but also to be the bridge for others and to bring about peace in the world that's going to be true.
01:13:21.000 We're seeing this stunning footage of this video that he drew in there going close to the balcony and seeing the first images like this up close of the new Pope.
01:13:36.000 There's about 100,000 people we're getting in this square right now who are seeing Pope.
01:13:42.000 Okay, you are watching History here.
01:13:45.000 Again, we're still learning about this new Pope.
01:13:47.000 He is officially the Pope, is that right?
01:13:50.000 There's no electoral college on this one.
01:13:53.000 No, but there is an official ceremony next Sunday, I believe, where all the heads of state come in.
01:13:58.000 And look, the Pope, we don't know a lot.
01:14:00.000 We do know that he attacked J.D. Vance back in February.
01:14:03.000 I believe this is a legitimate Twitter account.
01:14:06.000 He said, J.D. Vance is wrong.
01:14:08.000 Jesus doesn't ask us to rank our love for others.
01:14:11.000 Boy, that's a misinterpretation of what J.D. was saying.
01:14:15.000 Okay, we'll find out more.
01:14:16.000 So now we have Frank Pavone.
01:14:19.000 Frank, great to see you.
01:14:20.000 Thank you for taking the time.
01:14:21.000 What is your reaction to this new announcement?
01:14:24.000 Well, I'm astonished that they chose an American.
01:14:27.000 What a surprise.
01:14:28.000 And I have some connections to this, Cardinal.
01:14:31.000 Our associate director at Priests for Life is also an Augustinian, Father Dennis Wild.
01:14:36.000 He's been with us since 1998.
01:14:38.000 And he knew...
01:14:41.000 The new Pope, when he was at Villanova and he started, Prevost started Villanovans for Life.
01:14:49.000 And we know, you know, there's a lot to be unpacked here.
01:14:54.000 But, you know, the name Leo, that's important as well.
01:14:57.000 And I'm sure a lot of comment is going to be about, you know, what is he trying to convey by Leo?
01:15:02.000 Leo XIV.
01:15:02.000 Leo XIII was known, of course, for his emphasis on Catholic social teaching and enabling...
01:15:15.000 So hopefully there we're going to see a...
01:15:20.000 A better handling of this than we saw under Francis and a little bit more doctrine put in along with just the idea of embracing and accompanying people.
01:15:32.000 But that remains to be seen.
01:15:33.000 But I'm confident that we've done now what I thought we were going to do, what I thought the Cardinals were going to do, was to make some kind of a course correction.
01:15:42.000 I don't think this is going to be Francis II, but a lot remains to be seen because, Charlie, the office...
01:15:49.000 It shapes the man, also.
01:15:51.000 And I think we're going to see that happen, too.
01:15:54.000 So, what then is the expectation?
01:15:59.000 How does this work?
01:16:00.000 Does a pope give a couple formal speeches to kind of set the tone of his papacy?
01:16:05.000 How does that work, Frank?
01:16:07.000 We will see a few things start to happen.
01:16:10.000 One of the most important things, just like we see in the civic arena, is what kind of appointments he will start making.
01:16:16.000 Now, it's interesting.
01:16:17.000 They chose a man here who was in charge of the congregation for bishops.
01:16:21.000 So over recent years, he has been responsible for the selection of bishops, which, of course, is a primary responsibility of the Pope to assign bishops to dioceses.
01:16:34.000 So we're going to see very soon, not only in...
01:16:37.000 I would look at that as much as the speeches he will give.
01:16:52.000 He will be giving speeches now regularly.
01:16:54.000 Hopefully he'll be of the style where we hear a lot from him, you know, popes that, you know, will preach every day and send out lots of messages.
01:17:06.000 That's good.
01:17:06.000 I hope he takes the social media right away for the sake of transparency.
01:17:12.000 But yes, we will see over the next few weeks.
01:17:15.000 We'll be able to assess, I think, pretty quickly the direction in which his thinking is going to go.
01:17:21.000 So, Taylor Marshall is saying this is bad.
01:17:24.000 But, I mean, again, I'm not even weighing in on it.
01:17:26.000 This is not my thing, right?
01:17:28.000 John, what do you think here?
01:17:29.000 I mean, we want to keep this uplifting, and I'm trying to—I'm the Protestant here.
01:17:33.000 I want a good, conservative, traditional-based, pro-life, you know, anti-transpo—what did we get here?
01:17:41.000 I think just—I think honesty is the best recipe for true enthusiasm and hope.
01:17:49.000 And I have to admit, I do have cause for concern, for great concern.
01:17:53.000 Although what Father Frank was just saying, it's also true that, you know, a pope, someone can change once they've been handed the responsibility of 1.2 billion Catholics, right?
01:18:05.000 But prior to this, I mean, the scorecard speaks for itself.
01:18:09.000 You know, Poland in the 1950s, 60s, 70s, 80s made Kara Waitiwa John Paul II in the same way.
01:18:18.000 Prevost, Pope Leo XIV, carries his background.
01:18:21.000 And you said it yourself.
01:18:23.000 What's his scorecard?
01:18:25.000 He was ambiguous on same-sex blessings.
01:18:28.000 I'm sorry, but the Bible is not ambiguous on that central issue.
01:18:34.000 So he also, during his speech, there was good and said a lot of the right things.
01:18:40.000 But he did use that word dialogue.
01:18:43.000 Dialogue has been hijacked by the left.
01:18:48.000 Inside our church and outside of our church, as it's kind of a false idea that we can, yes, talk with the world, but never call them to repentance.
01:18:58.000 You're going to laugh, but I'm looking behind, there's another rooftop, and on that rooftop right now is a priest by the name of Father James Martin.
01:19:07.000 He's caused great scandal in the Catholic Church, and what does he run with?
01:19:10.000 He was very close to Pope Francis, and he ran with dialogue.
01:19:14.000 Let's welcome everyone in the church, but never call them in repentance.
01:19:18.000 I'm sorry, but you can't do that.
01:19:20.000 You must be like Christ and, you know, address their sins.
01:19:24.000 So we'll see.
01:19:25.000 You know, time will tell.
01:19:27.000 Don't forget, if the New York Times or the liberal newspapers are running positive media about you, that should make you think twice.
01:19:34.000 And that is what happened last three days with Cardinal Prevost.
01:19:39.000 But, you know, I think, Charlie...
01:19:42.000 It would be good at some point.
01:19:43.000 Maybe we offer a prayer in our own way for this man, for the mission that he is about to undertake.
01:19:51.000 What does a mechanic and auto shop owner in Georgia, a taco restaurant operator in Arizona, and a life-saving medical innovator in Tennessee have in common?
01:20:00.000 They're all small business owners, and they're all thriving on TikTok.
01:20:04.000 Across the U.S., over 7.5 million businesses, from family-owned shops to entrepreneurs, are using TikTok to compete and grow.
01:20:10.000 We use TikTok all the time on The Charlie Kirk Show.
01:20:13.000 In fact, 74% of businesses on TikTok say TikTok has allowed them to scale their operations, increasing sales, and expanding to new locations.
01:20:21.000 And that growth means jobs.
01:20:23.000 Today, there's over 7.5 million U.S. businesses on TikTok employing more than 28 million people.
01:20:28.000 And that number keeps growing.
01:20:29.000 Small businesses thrive on TikTok.
01:20:31.000 Learn more about TikTok's contribution to the U.S. economy at TikTokEconomicImpact.com.
01:20:39.000 Okay, I mean, look, not everyone was doing it in 2020.
01:20:42.000 Well, not us, but Mr. Prevost, the new pope, was retweeting George Floyd propaganda.
01:20:48.000 But that is what it is, whatever.
01:20:49.000 So, again, I'm not Catholic, so you guys can sort this out amongst yourselves.
01:20:53.000 Let's talk about the American aspect of this.
01:20:55.000 I'll start with you, Frank.
01:20:57.000 Frank, what do you think this will mean for the country, for our nation that we love?
01:21:01.000 To have a Pope from America.
01:21:03.000 He's from America, but he served in Peru.
01:21:05.000 But he will be known as the American Pope.
01:21:08.000 And also, is there something else going on here?
01:21:11.000 Why they would go out of their way to choose an American Pope, Frank?
01:21:14.000 That's the most surprising element of this to me.
01:21:17.000 And I think that we can first of all say, one of my concerns, you know, our concerns with Pope Francis was he didn't seem to understand or appreciate what was going on here in America, our American politics certainly.
01:21:31.000 And, you know, not to say that this is necessarily going to be a, you know, pro-Trump Pope, but I have the hope that, you know, at least...
01:21:43.000 Coming from more of a familiarity with America, he will be able to work better with the Trump administration than Pope Francis did.
01:21:52.000 Now, having said that, again, we'll have to just see the specifics as they unfold.
01:21:57.000 The other thought is very interesting, like what you said about John Paul going back to Poland.
01:22:02.000 Certainly, he's going to make trips to America.
01:22:04.000 And I think this can really engage the attention of the American public to, you know, what is a pope?
01:22:16.000 John, what is your thought of an American pope?
01:22:34.000 What will this mean for our homeland?
01:22:40.000 Do a lot of good.
01:22:40.000 Like Father Frank said, he's going to make some trips probably to the United States.
01:22:44.000 They have large gatherings.
01:22:46.000 But here's another thing to throw at you.
01:22:48.000 We've had arguably one of the most confusing pontificates under Pope Francis.
01:22:52.000 Well, what have the numbers shown?
01:22:54.000 We've had a rise in the number of Catholic conversions across the country.
01:23:00.000 So it's kind of a paradox in some ways that you might have a pope who wasn't whatever, you know, more progressive.
01:23:06.000 But yet you had all these conversions.
01:23:08.000 So it's not necessarily symmetrical.
01:23:11.000 It can help for sure.
01:23:13.000 But, you know, that remains to be seen.
01:23:15.000 I think at the end of the day, what's going to create conversions, you know, it's kind of like how Trump won the White House.
01:23:24.000 It wasn't Trump that won the White House.
01:23:26.000 He did, of course, on his personality.
01:23:28.000 But it was us who saw our task, our own mission.
01:23:32.000 In this case, it's a mission of holiness, of getting to heaven and becoming Christ-like, which is going to create the witness and create more conversion.
01:23:39.000 So, Pope or not, American or not, Gringo or not, Holy Pope or Sinner Pope, it's up to us.
01:23:46.000 That's how we're going to make the change.
01:23:47.000 I really believe that.
01:23:48.000 Blake, what can we expect out of an American Pope, and then you want to go more into the history?
01:23:52.000 Yeah, well, so, an American Pope, what we can expect, and this is not even necessarily the fault of the new Pope, but 100%, you will see...
01:24:00.000 It's obviously a big attempt by media in the U.S., media worldwide, to play up any conflict between the American pope and the American president.
01:24:10.000 Even if he doesn't play into that directly, they will do it.
01:24:13.000 They will hype it up.
01:24:13.000 They will try to generate that.
01:24:15.000 So we have to be ready for that.
01:24:16.000 We have to be ready to not fall into this trap where, like, oh, this, like, atheist guy at the New York Times is saying the pope said this, so I have to agree with what the...
01:24:26.000 Atheist guy at the New York Times says I'm supposed to think about what the Pope says about the president.
01:24:31.000 You can't fall for this stuff.
01:24:33.000 Don't let it brainwash you in any way.
01:24:37.000 There will be attempts to do that.
01:24:39.000 I've been spending while we've been talking here.
01:24:40.000 I was looking up.
01:24:41.000 He's Leo XIV.
01:24:42.000 We haven't had a Leo Pope in over 100 years.
01:24:46.000 We don't know for sure who this was inspired by, but a good bet is you look at the last guy to hold that name.
01:24:52.000 Leo XIII was pope for quite a long time, about 25 years.
01:24:56.000 He's one of the longest reigning popes ever.
01:24:58.000 He's pretty interesting.
01:24:59.000 He's from a period where they were called the Prisoner of the Vatican.
01:25:02.000 So Italy had conquered the Papal States, which used to be a thing.
01:25:06.000 And because the pope did not recognize this, for the 25 years he was pope, he did not leave Vatican City.
01:25:13.000 So 25 years, just in that little St. Peter's Basilica area, could not leave.
01:25:19.000 Refused to leave, I should say.
01:25:20.000 But what Leo XIII was interesting about, he was kind of the first pope to really engage with what we would call modern-day economic and social issues.
01:25:31.000 So he wrote encyclicals where he would say, basically...
01:25:35.000 Capital has duty to labor.
01:25:37.000 You have to treat workers well.
01:25:39.000 Workers have to have certain rights.
01:25:40.000 And this would cause people to have different takes on him.
01:25:43.000 They would say he was, you know, favorable, that it was like pro-socialist or proto-Marxist.
01:25:47.000 It wasn't really.
01:25:48.000 He was more kind of cutting a middle path between sort of, you know, left-wing economics and, like, capitalism.
01:25:57.000 Trying to carve out his own sort of Catholic position on it.
01:26:00.000 Another thing he promoted, which I think we would have some sympathy with, is he called it subsidiarity, which is that decisions generally should be made at a local, at a smaller level, rather than imposed by very high-up authorities as a principle of government.
01:26:18.000 And as American conservatives, we're obviously sympathetic to that in an innate sort of way.
01:26:26.000 That's just looking at what he might be drawing inspiration from.
01:26:29.000 I think initially we could look at, well, he picked this guy's name.
01:26:33.000 So I think you'll see a lot of people talking about that in the days to come.
01:26:37.000 Final thoughts, Frank, and then we'll throw it to John.
01:26:39.000 Frank, final thoughts.
01:26:41.000 You know, one of the keys to the thinking of a bishop or a cardinal is his coat of arms.
01:26:46.000 They have a particular choice of a motto that they put on their coat of arms.
01:26:51.000 And for Cardinal Prevost, it is, in the one Christ.
01:26:55.000 We are one.
01:26:57.000 And I like that very much because obviously, you know, and he started out his remarks today by doing what?
01:27:03.000 By talking about the risen Christ.
01:27:04.000 You know, he didn't start by talking about himself.
01:27:06.000 And this is really what a pope is supposed to do.
01:27:09.000 And in the one Christ, we are one.
01:27:13.000 We're going to have to unpack that in the coming weeks and months and see how that's a key to his thinking.
01:27:18.000 But it could point to a good effort to heal the divisions that have happened in the church, certainly the divisions among the wider body of Christ.
01:27:27.000 And of course, what always has to be front and center, pointing to the one Lord and head of the church who is Jesus Christ.
01:27:35.000 Take this for whatever it's worth.
01:27:37.000 He is a registered Republican.
01:27:39.000 Our Turning Point Action team actually pulled this.
01:27:41.000 No, this is, I'm not kidding.
01:27:43.000 This is credit to Tyler in Turning Point Action.
01:27:45.000 And he voted in Republican primaries when he was not living in Peru.
01:27:49.000 Final thoughts, John?
01:27:50.000 Charlie, are you okay if I lead you all in a prayer?
01:27:52.000 Just for what this means for Christians around the world?
01:27:54.000 Yes.
01:27:56.000 We ask the Heavenly Father right now to bless Christians around this world in this moment for the universal church.
01:28:03.000 We ask Christians to renew their love for the Lord and may he bless us right now.
01:28:09.000 Bless Robert Prevost and his role as Pope of Catholics around the world.
01:28:14.000 And we ask that Our Lady be close to him and ultimately keep us centered on what truly matters, reaching heaven and bringing people there with us.
01:28:25.000 In the name of Jesus Christ, the Lord, amen.
01:28:28.000 Amen.
01:28:29.000 Thank you, John.
01:28:29.000 Thank you, Frank.
01:28:30.000 And Blake, we'll wrap this up in about 30 seconds.
01:28:32.000 Thank you, guys.
01:28:33.000 And there is a new pope.
01:28:34.000 It is Leo XIV, right?
01:28:36.000 Leo XIV.
01:28:37.000 Pope Leo XIV from Chicago.
01:28:39.000 I've got to wear my Cubs hat tomorrow.
01:28:41.000 And he is a registered Republican who votes in Republican primaries.
01:28:44.000 The primary is the key.
01:28:45.000 If he was, like, faking it, he wouldn't vote in the Republican primaries.
01:28:48.000 In Chicago.
01:28:49.000 That's like, you would not do that unless you actually believe it.
01:28:52.000 So he might be a single-issue pro-life voter, which...
01:28:55.000 Honestly, it would be, you know, not the worst thing.
01:28:57.000 Thanks so much for listening, everybody.
