00:02:41.000 I think you knew that just about better than anybody, but it would have never happened.

00:02:46.000 And it would have never happened for a lot of reasons.

00:02:48.000 Number one, Putin wouldn't have done it.

00:02:50.000 But also, we had the greatest oil and gas machine ever created.

00:02:56.000 We were larger than we became larger than Saudi Arabia and Russia.

00:03:00.000 We were going to be more than double the combined size of both.

00:03:04.000 And if Russia did do that, we would have been selling Europe and everybody else in the world oil. 0.52

00:03:10.000 And we would have been the ones.

00:03:11.000 And he wouldn't be making the profits on it, which is, you know, which is really funding his war machine.

00:03:16.000 We would have been making the profits on a mistake that he would have made.

00:03:21.000 I don't think, number one, it wouldn't have happened, but number two, we would have been, we were energy independent, as you know very well, and we would have been even beyond that.

00:03:30.000 We would have been, this would have been one of the great things ever, ever devised.

00:03:35.000 And now I watch these people, these green energy people, and I'm all for the environment.

00:03:41.000 You know that better than anybody.

00:03:42.000 I'm all for the environment.

00:03:43.000 But I watch Kerry and all these people say, oh, this is a great time for green energy.

00:03:48.000 This country is being destroyed systematically by people that don't know what they're doing.

00:03:53.000 It's so hard to watch.

00:03:55.000 And so, you know, you were accused through the Russia hoax, the great hoax of our generation of somehow being in bed with Putin.

00:04:02.000 But actually, you were harsher towards Putin and Russia than your predecessor and certainly this current administration.

00:04:09.000 But you got along well with Putin.

00:04:11.000 You said just right now, he wouldn't have done this when you were president.

00:04:15.000 Why was that the case?

00:04:16.000 He would have never done it.

00:04:18.000 He understood the consequences if he did it, and he would have never done it.

00:04:22.000 And he also would have never done it because I had oil so low.

00:04:25.000 You know, oil was down at $40 a barrel, and it was $1.87 at the pump for gasoline.

00:04:33.000 And he would have, there would just, it would not have fueled.

00:04:36.000 You know, this is a very unusual situation because the worse he makes the world, the more money they're making.

00:04:43.000 Think of that.

00:04:45.000 There's never been anything like that because if countries go to war, they kill a lot of people and they also lose a lot of money and a real bad thing, real bad combination.

00:04:55.000 But here's a case where the worse the world becomes because they're such a big supplier and they become much bigger because of the United States not being essentially active in the business anymore, you know, relatively speaking.

00:05:09.000 But think of it.

00:05:10.000 The worse the world becomes, the higher the energy costs go.

00:05:16.000 I mean, I heard somebody say $250 a barrel today.

00:05:19.000 Now, I don't know if they're right or wrong, but it was down at less than $40.

00:05:24.000 I mean, I had it down in the 20s for a while, but I had to raise it because, frankly, the energy companies were losing their shirt.

00:05:31.000 And so was Russia and Saudi Arabia, by the way.

00:05:34.000 Everybody was.

00:05:34.000 And I got it up.

00:05:36.000 But I had it at $40 a barrel.

00:05:38.000 Now it's, I mean, they're projecting pretty quickly $150.

00:05:42.000 And the gasoline is $7 in California and going higher.

00:05:46.000 I remember being there in the White House and the great Harold Hamm came in and he was begging you, we got to get that price of oil up.

00:05:52.000 But you were always looking out for the consumer.

00:05:54.000 And you also understood the geopolitical implications of what expensive oil would mean.

00:06:01.000 I want to shift gears for a second, Mr. President.

00:06:03.000 You gave a great speech this weekend at CPAC, and you won the CPAC straw poll.

00:06:08.000 Congratulations with 59% and you cleared the entire field.

00:06:12.000 Are you closer to making another decision to running in 2024?

00:06:16.000 Well, you know, I've endorsed a lot of candidates, 30-something candidates in Texas.

00:06:22.000 We have a big primary coming up tomorrow, as you know, a big election tomorrow.

00:06:26.000 That'll be very interesting to see what happens.

00:06:29.000 But endorse a lot of good candidates, and I'll be endorsing a lot.

00:06:32.000 The endorsement has been rather amazing, to put it broadly.

00:06:37.000 I don't think it's, I know it has never happened before.

00:06:40.000 When we endorse somebody, they essentially just win.

00:06:43.000 And it happened just recently, as you know, with Congress in Ohio, somebody that people didn't know too much about, a very, very good guy.

00:06:53.000 And he ended up, as you know, he ended up winning the race very substantially.

00:06:56.000 And that's happened many, many times.

00:06:58.000 So that's important.

00:06:59.000 But probably after the election, probably after the November election, we'll do it the midterms, as they call them.

00:07:09.000 And I think people will be very happy.

00:07:12.000 I might decide before, to be honest with you.

00:07:15.000 Sometimes I look at what's going on in this country and I just say, how can we wait?

00:07:21.000 And, you know, some very big things are coming out that people say, oh, think to the future.

00:07:25.000 Some people, some people don't want you to do that at all.

00:07:28.000 They want you to find out what happened because this is a rigged election, 100% rigged election.

00:07:33.000 And that's why we have all these problems.

00:07:35.000 Think of it.

00:07:35.000 We wouldn't have inflation because we had no inflation.

00:07:39.000 We had a great stock market.

00:07:41.000 We had a great economy.

00:07:42.000 We had great everything.

00:07:44.000 And none of these things would have happened, including the Ukraine war.

00:07:47.000 We'd have a strong border.

00:07:48.000 The border is really going to be one of our big problems because we have not 3 million people.

00:07:53.000 But we have 10 million people came in since the election, since the takeover.

00:08:01.000 And it's going to be a big problem.

00:08:04.000 We're going to be living with that problem for a long time, Charlie.

00:08:07.000 I was in Yuma.

00:08:08.000 I saw your wall a couple weeks ago, and I saw the steel just totally rusting that you ordered, and Biden refuses to put any of it.

00:08:18.000 It's a disgrace to our country.

00:08:19.000 It really, really is.

00:08:20.000 We're supposed to be painting it.

00:08:22.000 It was supposed to be painted, and it would have been, we would have had it finished in three to four weeks, completed, then gets painted, and it's rusting.

00:08:32.000 And they didn't want to put up the few sections remaining.

00:08:35.000 They didn't want to put them up.

00:08:36.000 In fact, they won't let Texas use them either.

00:08:41.000 So, which means they seriously don't want to build a wall.

00:08:44.000 So anyway, no, this is exactly what Border Patrol wanted.

00:08:47.000 They wanted steel, concrete inside the steel, rebar inside the concrete.

00:08:54.000 You know, they want to have visibility through.

00:08:56.000 I thought we'd do concrete plank, but they wanted to have the visibility and they wanted the steel and concrete.

00:16:46.000 While the entire world and nation is focused on a border dispute 5,000 miles away, Putin's war, which should not happen, and he should be held accountable for that, why aren't we concerned about the political prisoners in our prisons that are also taking their own lives?

00:17:12.000 Julie, welcome back to the program.

00:17:14.000 Hey, Charlie, thank you so much for having me.

00:17:16.000 So, Julie, is it fair to say that these are political prisoners that are being held without bail?

00:17:25.000 And just walk us through the update of that and then kind of give us the breaking news that happened the last 24 hours, one of the defendants committing suicide.

00:17:34.000 So, Charlie, the Biden Justice Department has sought what's called pretrial detention for at least 100 people charged for any involvement in what happened on January 6th.

00:17:46.000 What pretrial detention means is that they ask a judge to deny bail, to consider this suspect or this defendant so dangerous to the community or flight risk, they have to stay behind bars awaiting trial.

00:17:59.000 So, in over 100 cases, they've sought this pretrial detention and they have gotten it for federal judges, all the way from Trump judges down to Reagan judges, if you can believe they're still on the bench.

00:18:10.000 So, these people are being held simply because they protested Joe Biden's election.

00:18:15.000 Some of them are charged with assaulting police officers, damaging property, but there are several who committed no violent crime.

00:18:22.000 So, this is really unprecedented, Charlie.

00:18:25.000 Furthermore, they've set aside a certain section of the DC jail system only to house January 6th defendants.

00:18:34.000 This is a political prison.

00:18:36.000 And then you have dozens more who are at prisons throughout the country.

00:18:39.000 Some of them, Charlie, have been held over a year.

00:18:42.000 The trial of the first January 6th detainee actually started today in Washington, D.C. Jury selection is now underway.

00:18:51.000 But you have these men who are going to be held maybe 18, 20 months before their trial even starts.

00:18:58.000 This is just punitive and vengeful behavior from Joe Biden's Justice Department.

00:19:04.000 So, walk us through this latest story of the individual who committed suicide.

00:19:10.000 What were the circumstances surrounding that?

00:19:14.000 So, his name is Matthew Perna.

00:19:16.000 He was not in jail.

00:19:19.000 He is not a detainee.

00:19:20.000 He was allowed to be at home awaiting trial.

00:19:25.000 But he committed no crime on January 6th.

00:19:28.000 I want to say this up front, Charlie.

00:19:30.000 He walked into an open through an open door on the Senate side of the building at about 10 minutes to three on that afternoon.

00:19:37.000 There were Capitol police standing right by the door.

00:19:39.000 They didn't attempt to arrest anyone.

00:19:42.000 They didn't tell anyone the building was off limits.

00:19:44.000 They didn't try to usher people outside.

00:19:46.000 He walked in peacefully.

00:19:48.000 He walked in the road lines.

00:19:49.000 He took photos.

00:19:50.000 He was inside for about 20 minutes and he left.

00:19:53.000 He carried no weapon.

00:19:54.000 He assaulted no one, vandalized no property.

00:19:56.000 From that point on, his life turned into a living hell by this FBI, Justice Department, the national and local news media, and his own community all turned on him.

00:20:08.000 Because as you know, Charlie, you have everyone from Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, Chris Reag, FBI director, Attorney General Merrick Garland, and every mainstream journalist referring to these people as domestic terrorists, white supremacists, seditionists, insurrectionists, you name it.

00:20:25.000 So his life was completely destroyed.

00:20:28.000 He was charged with one felony obstruction charge, a joke charge, and then three minor misdemeanors.

00:20:34.000 This justice department tormented him.

00:20:38.000 He finally pleaded guilty in December trying to just get this over with.

00:20:42.000 He thought that he would be serving about six months to a year in prison.

00:20:46.000 But Joe Biden's justice department, Matthew Graves, who is the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia handling all these cases, said, wait, we want to delay the sentencing hearing.

00:20:55.000 We want to make sure that all the January 6th defendants are being charged equally, which means, Charlie, they were going to ask for a few years in prison for this man, Matthew Perna, who has no criminal record, never even a parking ticket, his family told me on the phone yesterday, committed no crime on January 6th, but nonetheless, this Justice Department wanted to throw him in jail for at least a few years just to prove a point and to criminalize political dissent in this country.

00:21:23.000 So he unfortunately had had enough, and he hung himself tragically Friday night in the garage of his home.

00:21:31.000 He was 37 years old.

00:21:34.000 And we're going to see more stories like that, I'm afraid, if this continues.

00:21:37.000 So how many people are still in pretrial detention right now?

00:21:42.000 So right now, Charlie, there's about 70 in pretrial detention.

00:21:45.000 There's around 40 in the DC jail right now.

00:21:49.000 And so, but look, this is the second suicide related to a January 6th defendant.

00:21:54.000 Another man who was charged died suddenly in September.

00:21:58.000 His attorney said he died a wrongfully convicted man, which he actually was.

00:22:04.000 It is just shameful, Charlie, how this prosecution is being used to destroy the lives of thousands of Americans who did nothing wrong that day, simply show up because they objected to the unlawful election of Joe Biden and were supporters of Donald Trump.

00:22:21.000 And so when I use the term political prisoners, it is accurate. 1.00

00:22:24.000 And some of them are prisoners in their own homes.

00:22:27.000 They can't even go out to the community because they are shunned.

00:22:30.000 It's their jobs.

00:22:32.000 They've been abandoned by relatives, by friends, by coworkers.

00:22:37.000 One told a court that his own church told him to stop going to church because he was such a distraction.

00:22:45.000 They have been vilified like no other group of people in American history.

00:22:50.000 And now they have blood on their hands for what they've done.

00:22:53.000 37 political prisoners.

00:22:55.000 That's right.

00:22:56.000 37 people in pretrial detention that cannot get bail.

00:23:00.000 Meanwhile, you have in, I think, Louisville or wherever, some, it was either Louisville or Nashville.

00:23:06.000 We have the story up here.

00:23:07.000 An individual tried to assassinate a mayoral candidate.

00:23:11.000 It was Louisville.

00:23:11.000 That's right.

00:23:12.000 Tried to assassinate a mayoral candidate and they get off on bail.

00:23:18.000 And you see this repeatedly.

00:23:21.000 Is it because of a lack of representation?

00:23:24.000 They can't raise money for it.

00:23:26.000 Why is it they can't even be able to get out of jail?

00:23:29.000 I mean, they have been in jail now for 13 months.

00:23:33.000 That's right.

00:23:34.000 The man whose trial started today, Charlie, has been incarcerated almost 14 months.

00:23:39.000 He was arrested shortly after January 6th.

00:23:42.000 What happens is a combination of factors.

00:23:44.000 They had bad attorneys at the beginning who did not make an argument for them to get out of jail.

00:23:49.000 A lot of cases, they couldn't even find good criminal defense attorneys.

00:23:53.000 So they had public defenders in D.C., which of course did not share their political views.

00:23:57.000 But more egregiously, Charlie, you have federal judges in the D.C. District Court.

00:24:01.000 As I said, Trump judges like Judge Trevor McFadden, Dami Friedrich, all the way through Obama judges, down to Reagan judges, Tom Hogan, and Royce Lambert, who have signed on to these pretrial detention orders, going along with the idea that these people are insurrectionists, that they're domestic terrorists, that they are not safe to go home and live in their own community.

00:24:24.000 So it's the Justice Department's fault, but it also is the fault of these federal judges who are going along with whatever this DOJ wants and continuing to torment these people as they continue, as they delay trials at the same time.

00:24:36.000 So it's this horribly rigged system.

00:24:39.000 It's destroying lives.

00:24:40.000 It's destroying families.

00:24:41.000 It's bankrupting families.

00:24:43.000 It's really a tragedy.

00:24:45.000 And now we have the second suicide of an innocent young man who did nothing wrong.

00:24:50.000 And now his family, who I spoke with yesterday, just you cannot even imagine how broken and outraged they are at what happened to their son and their nephew.

00:25:01.000 Well, these prosecutors are all trying to look for career advancement and they see a 9-11 style opportunity where they could be known as, yeah, I worked the January 6th case and they can get promoted to become some DA or they could become some U.S. attorney from this.

00:25:16.000 So you have these hyper-aggressive prosecutors that are going above and beyond.

00:25:23.000 Talk for a second about the equal protection implications here.

00:25:26.000 Are BLM and Antifa being treated with this sort of scrutiny?

00:25:30.000 Well, of course, we know the answer to that, which is no.

00:25:34.000 This is the same DOJ that is actively dropping cases.

00:25:38.000 Here's a shocking figure that was confirmed by the FBI, Charlie.

00:25:42.000 Federal prosecutors have charged more than three times as many people for what happened for four hours on January 6th and face federal charges for what happened for months the summer of 2020.

00:25:55.000 This includes people who attacked federal officers, who defiled federal property, destroyed federal property.

00:26:01.000 I'm sure you recall how the rioters in Lafayette Square tried to overtake the fence at the White House, causing the White House to go into lockdown that first weekend of June.

00:26:13.000 All of those charges basically have been dropped.

00:26:15.000 The charges against the Portland rioters, most of those cases also are being dismissed with prejudice, so they can't come back and charge them again.

00:26:23.000 You just brought up Louisville.

00:26:25.000 Here's another interesting dichotomy.

00:26:27.000 They just charged a Louisville police officer for violating the civil rights of a BLM activist who was committing all sorts of crimes.

00:26:34.000 This officer allegedly hit him in the back of the head with a riot stick.

00:26:38.000 They wanted four years in prison for this Louisville police officer for allegedly violating this BLM activist civil rights as he was engaged in criminal activity, but at the same time, refusing to even consider charging Lieutenant Michael Byrd, who shot at near point-blank rage, almost in the face, Ashley Babbitt, an unarmed Trump supporter in the Capitol building that day.

00:27:00.000 So these double standards are everywhere.

00:27:02.000 And Charlie, this is what the American people see.

00:27:04.000 They recognize it.

00:27:06.000 And unfortunately, the situation is really getting dire and more desperate for these defendants as they continue to be tormented.

00:27:14.000 And at the same time, actual people who really terrorized our country for months on end are getting their charges dropped.

00:32:39.000 Devin Archer is Hunter Biden's ex-business partner, was just sentenced in New York District Court to one year, one day in jail, plus a one-year parole and a $15 million forfeiture of defrauding a Native American tribe.

00:32:50.000 Only a presidential pardon will save him.

00:32:52.000 That might not be out of the cards.

00:32:55.000 Judge Ronnie Abrams said the crime is too serious for the non-custodial sentence that Archer's lawyer requested.

00:33:02.000 But the sentence was less than the 30 months requested by prosecutors.

00:33:06.000 Says here that Joe Biden was repeatedly denied any involvement with his son's illicit business dealings in Ukraine.

00:33:12.000 Quote, I've not spoken to my son about his overseas business dealings.

00:33:16.000 I know Trump deserves to be investigated, he said in 2019.
