00:01:00.000 His spirit, his love of this country, he's done an amazing job building one of the most powerful youth organizations ever created, Turning Point USA.
00:01:09.000 We will not embrace the ideas that have destroyed countries, destroyed lives, and we are going to fight for freedom on campuses across the country.
00:01:18.000 That's why we are here.
00:01:20.000 Brought to you by Andrew and Todd at Sierra Pacific Mortgage.
00:01:24.000 For personalized loan services, you can count on.
00:01:26.000 Go to andrewandodd.com, the wonderfulandrewandtodd.com.
00:01:33.000 It is rare that we're able to say that some of the mockery and backlash that we are able to create is actually successful.
00:01:42.000 And we're so used to kind of being outraged about things and nothing actually improving.
00:01:47.000 Well, the Department of Homeland Security, as you well know, DHS, came out a couple weeks ago with their new Ministry of Truth, the Orwellian Surveillance Board that was going to be chaired by the very sad individual, Nina Jankowicz, with a really bizarre singing routine and kind of the perpetually sarcastic and ironic tone that she takes to all things politics.
00:02:12.000 So Nina Jankowicz was supposed to run this thing, 33 years old, author of How to Lose the Information War and How to Be a Woman Online.
00:02:20.000 Of course, the question is, what is a woman exactly, Nina Jankowicz?
00:02:24.000 She was relentlessly mocked by this program included, not because she's just a random person.
00:02:30.000 We don't make a habit of doing that, but because she was going to have a badge, going to be able to investigate people because she didn't like their tweets.
00:02:37.000 That was one of her things.
00:02:38.000 She said, I want to be able to edit people's tweets online.
00:02:42.000 Well, Nina Jankowicz went very viral for some of her videos.
00:02:46.000 Do we have some of those videos still?
00:02:49.000 And it's just so incredible what happened.
00:02:53.000 Effective today, Nina Jankowicz has resigned from the Disinformation Board.
00:02:59.000 Can't handle it, Nina, I guess.
00:03:01.000 You're not up to online chatter, it seems, when your own words are held against you.
00:03:05.000 And the Biden regime has now paused the Disinformation Government's Board, and they are considering it shutting it down all the way together.
00:03:14.000 Nina Jankowicz has resigned and she's gone back to now go write fan fiction for Harry Potter or whatever.
00:03:19.000 It's called Pottermore.
00:03:20.000 Is that what that website is called?
00:03:22.000 That's what Nina Jankowicz is going to go spend her time doing.
00:03:26.000 Singing weird Mary Poppins songs with her cats.
00:03:31.000 See, we don't know she owns a cat, but I bet she does.
00:03:37.000 This is a good win for Freedom and Liberty in the Constitution.
00:03:41.000 The Disinformation Governance Board, I think the straw that broke the camel's back was not anything that we did.
00:03:47.000 I think it was Bill Maher.
00:03:49.000 Bill Maher went after Nina Jankowicz this last weekend and was like, come on, guys.
00:03:53.000 Are we really doing this?
00:03:55.000 And I think when Bill Maher went all in, the liberal intelligentsia said, Yeah, you know, the full court Orwellian thing, where it's literally called the disinformation board, probably too much.
00:04:06.000 Taylor Lorenz, fellow degenerate person on Twitter who does nothing better but tries to unmask identities of the libs of TikTok, has said, quote, Scoop, just three weeks after its announcement, the Disinformation Governance Board is being paused, and intra-departmental DHS working groups focused on disinformation have been suspended.
00:04:30.000 Nina Jankowicz is considering leaving.
00:04:32.000 Leave my read my full story.
00:04:34.000 I will not read your story, Taylor Lorenz.
00:04:37.000 Jack Poseobic is largely to thank for this.
00:04:40.000 They're saying to blame for it, the wonderful Jack Pesobic from Turning Point USA, Human Events Daily.
00:04:46.000 The Washington Post writes: Just hours after Jankowicz tweeted about her new job, the far-right influencer Jack Poseobic posted a tweet accusing the Biden administration of creating a ministry of truth.
00:04:57.000 By the end of the day, there were 53,235 posts on Twitter mentioning the Disinformation Governance Board, many referencing Jankowicz by name, according to a report by Advanced Democracy, a nonpartisan nonprofit organization that conducts public interest research.
00:05:12.000 In the days following that number, skyrocketed.
00:05:14.000 What I love about this is that there are think tanks that are funded on the left where their full-time job is to say, hey, what went wrong with this thing?
00:05:23.000 Find out who did it.
00:05:24.000 You know who it was Jack Poseobic.
00:05:26.000 That's who did it.
00:05:27.000 They had to do a whole study and analysis.
00:05:31.000 The Advanced Democracy, a nonpartisan nonprofit organization who did a whole study of, so where did we go wrong here?
00:05:38.000 Of course, it wasn't the Mary Poppins singing.
00:05:40.000 It wasn't the really bizarre like Harry Potter mentions.
00:05:45.000 It wasn't her constantly sarcastic, ironic tone towards everything.
00:05:49.000 It wasn't the fact where she said she just wants to be able to censor political dissidents, or the fact that you just kind of have a child running the disinformation board.
00:05:56.000 No, no, no.
00:05:57.000 According to the Washington Post and Advanced Democracy, it's those pesky far-right influencers, Jack Pesobic.
00:06:04.000 It's a big win.
00:06:07.000 You saw it at every corner.
00:06:08.000 Tucker covered it.
00:06:09.000 Levin covered it.
00:06:10.000 All about the Disinformation Governance Board.
00:06:13.000 And it looks like it's going to be no longer.
00:06:16.000 Now, why is that?
00:06:18.000 Does the left no longer believe in it?
00:06:21.000 No.
00:06:22.000 One of the reasons why I think they're pausing this is it was such an extreme, flagrant, defiant, public measure and move to try to stifle and silence speech in our country.
00:06:38.000 That the Biden regime had so many problems, they said, oh, my goodness, is the woman singer still around?
00:06:43.000 Can we just make one thing less dramatic?
00:06:47.000 Now, mind you, this all was kind of bubbling up because in the last couple of days, she was supposed to testify in front of Congress.
00:06:54.000 And I would have loved anything.
00:06:56.000 To have Senator Kennedy from Louisiana to be able to testify, to have her testify to him, would have been hilarious.
00:07:03.000 Josh Hawley, Ted Cruz, any one of those guys, Rand Paul.
00:07:08.000 And they just abruptly canceled the hearing.
00:07:09.000 Like, we don't want to do it.
00:07:11.000 This is a victory, everybody.
00:07:13.000 You see, the left made a big mistake here.
00:07:18.000 The left is never as strong as we think they are.
00:07:21.000 Most of the left's strength comes in the appearance of strength.
00:07:27.000 Most of their strength is a mirage.
00:07:31.000 And so what they should have done is they should have doubled down on this.
00:07:35.000 They should have tripled down on this.
00:07:36.000 It would have made at least themselves seem more like they're really into kind of the police state thing.
00:07:40.000 It would have made a lot more people fearful.
00:07:42.000 The fact they back away from this shows how weak they actually are and how strong we are.
00:07:50.000 This is actually against their rules.
00:07:52.000 Usually the left doubles and triples down, and they might de-emphasize it, but rarely do they actually bend the knee.
00:07:59.000 Now, is it a force of gravity thing?
00:08:01.000 Potentially, but it's not like it was a funding problem.
00:08:05.000 It's not as if the DHS was going to run out of money.
00:08:09.000 You're going to wonder if this was going to be like a political liability heading into the midterms, and it probably would.
00:08:15.000 Can't imagine that Mark Kelly in Arizona running for the Senate would say, you know, I know our border is wide open, but don't worry.
00:08:21.000 We have this person in Cut 67 running our disinformation board.
00:08:25.000 Play Cut 67.
00:08:27.000 Information laundering is really quite ferocious.
00:08:30.000 It's when a huckster takes some lies and makes them sound precocious by saying them in Congress or a mainstream outlet.
00:08:36.000 So disinformation's origins are slightly less atrocious.
00:08:42.000 You see, what you just did, what all of us just did by shining a light, is making one tyrant less powerful.
00:08:50.000 That's a good day to be alive, isn't it?
00:08:52.000 The Mary Poppins girl, she lost her badge.
00:08:57.000 She's resigned.
00:09:00.000 And the Disinformation Governance Board has been put in jeopardy.
00:09:06.000 And it's because of you and it's because of this program, because of Jack Pesobic.
00:09:09.000 Obviously, they're showing that.
00:09:10.000 Jack, who's a frequent guest here and works with us at Turning Point USA.
00:09:15.000 We can win.
00:09:19.000 We can win.
00:09:22.000 These people can be defeated.
00:09:25.000 Sometimes you got to mock them.
00:09:28.000 Sometimes you got to draw them out.
00:09:30.000 Sometimes you got to pinpoint exactly what they're doing.
00:09:33.000 This should give you a shot of optimism because you think anywhere in the cards or the plans the last couple weeks was to basically bend the knee and show a sign of weakness?
00:09:43.000 No.
00:09:44.000 That shows how overwhelmingly effective we were.
00:09:47.000 Now, to be honest, the left was so dumb to appoint this person to be the head of the governance board.
00:09:54.000 They couldn't find some like octogenarian who's like super bored.
00:09:57.000 No, no, no.
00:09:58.000 You see, they thought it would be a good idea to have a young woman who understands how to log into thefacebook.com.
00:10:05.000 You see, having some sort of octogenarian would have been like, what's TikTok?
00:10:08.000 Again, no, no, no, but having Nina Jankowitz, the perpetually sarcastic, ironic, sardonic Mary Poppins Harry Potter girl, they thought it would be a cool thing to be able to win people over.
00:10:20.000 They lost.
00:10:21.000 The board is in limbo.
00:10:24.000 And now we got to make sure it goes to completion.
00:10:26.000 Disassemble the board and make sure it never happens again.
00:10:29.000 It is not a role of the federal government to have a ministry of truth, an Orwellian construct that polices speech and tells you what is true and not true.
00:10:39.000 CNN Plus, gone.
00:10:41.000 Netflix, cratered.
00:10:43.000 Disney, cratered.
00:10:44.000 Disinformation board, disassembled.
00:10:46.000 We can win, everybody.
00:10:49.000 We will.
00:10:50.000 But as Sawolinsky said, you got to keep the pressure on.
00:10:56.000 Hey, everybody, Charlie Kirk here.
00:10:58.000 With the left in a total panic over Twitter and DHS essentially creating their own Ministry of Truth, it is safe to say we're facing the biggest threat to the First Amendment in our lifetime.
00:11:06.000 That's why I'm proud to support Patriot Mobile, America's only Christian conservative cell phone provider.
00:11:11.000 They offer broad nationwide coverage, so you get the same great service without funding the major carriers who donate to the left.
00:11:17.000 Patriot Mobile has plans to fit any budget, and their U.S.-based customer support team provides exceptional customer service.
00:11:23.000 Most importantly, Patriot Mobile shares your values and supports organizations fighting for religious liberty, the rights given to you by God and protected in the Constitution, and the sanctity of life.
00:11:32.000 So make the switch right now today.
00:11:34.000 Our team has made the switch.
00:11:34.000 I've made the switch.
00:11:36.000 Do it right now.
00:11:36.000 Go to patriotmobile.com/slash Charlie or call 972 Patriot.
00:11:40.000 Get free activation with the offer code Charlie.
00:11:42.000 They also have special discounts for our veteran and first responder heroes.
00:11:46.000 PatriotMobile.com/slash Charlie or call 972 Patriot.
00:11:49.000 That's patriotmobile.com slash Charlie, patriotmobile.com slash Charlie, or call 972 Patriot, patriotmobile.com slash Charlie.
00:12:00.000 We are keeping our eyes peeled on the Senate race, Senate primary, I should say, in Pennsylvania.
00:12:08.000 It's remarkably close.
00:12:10.000 There's anywhere between 40 to 60,000 ballots left to count with Dr. Oz in the current lead.
00:12:19.000 Let me do some math here.
00:12:20.000 It looks by 2,400 votes.
00:12:22.000 I'm sure there might be a more updated tally, but it seems about right.
00:12:26.000 And 2,400 votes separating Dr. Oz and Dave McCormick in a very crowded primary.
00:12:35.000 Dr. Roz received the endorsement of President Trump, and we're going to keep our eyes on that.
00:12:42.000 It's very important we keep that Senate seat.
00:12:45.000 There's some really good news.
00:12:47.000 When you look at the turnout and the trends for the Republican Party, and I want to play Cut 52 in a second, which is Representative Elise Stefanik saying if you look at the state of Pennsylvania, 62% of unaffiliated voters broke for and voted for the Republican Party.
00:13:04.000 So you can see the energy and the enthusiasm is there.
00:13:07.000 Let's play Cut 52, and then I want to pair that with Cut 4.
00:13:10.000 Play Cut 52.
00:13:11.000 My top line thoughts, Harris, was this was a big night for the Republican Party.
00:13:15.000 Here are some important statistics that haven't been covered yet, but are really an indicator of how big this red wave is going to be this November.
00:13:22.000 This was the highest Republican turnout across the board in a primary in over two decades.
00:13:28.000 Also, if you look at the state of Pennsylvania, 62% of unaffiliated voters broke for and voted for the Republican Party.
00:13:35.000 So you can see the energy is there, the enthusiasm is there.
00:13:38.000 We got to continue to work to make the case about how we will save this country from the destruction we're seeing under unified, failed, far-left Democrat government.
00:13:49.000 Pennsylvania is a perfect example of a state that used to lean center-left, but now it's a legitimate battleground state thanks to the leadership of President Trump and bringing out that muscular class.
00:13:59.000 Now, the Democrat running is this kind of fake populist.
00:14:03.000 You got to give the Democrats credit.
00:14:04.000 They certainly know how to pretend to be in the demographic they're trying to win over.
00:14:09.000 You look at this guy, John Fetterman, and we do wish him a speedy recovery.
00:14:13.000 Not trying to conflate the two things, but he certainly, just from like a political standpoint, looks like a perfect every like he looks like a muscular labor steel worker, coal miner, truck driver type guy.
00:14:28.000 He walks around with the shorts and the sweatshirt.
00:14:31.000 He's like six foot eight.
00:14:33.000 He's got the whole look going.
00:14:35.000 But in reality, he's actually even more liberal than Chuck Schumer.
00:14:38.000 He's like a Bernie Sanders guy.
00:14:40.000 He's extremely, extremely far to the left.
00:14:44.000 Want to play cut four?
00:14:45.000 New NBC News poll shows Democrats are in serious trouble.
00:14:48.000 Play cut four.
00:14:49.000 Voters' views about the economy begin to harden in an election year around May.
00:14:53.000 That theory holds Democrats are in some serious trouble right now because in our new NBC news poll, just 16% say the country's headed in the right direction, while a whopping 75% say we're on the wrong track.
00:15:04.000 In fact, that wrong track number has been 70-plus for seven months, which in the past has signaled big losses for the governing party.
00:15:10.000 President Biden's numbers have hit a new low.
00:15:12.000 Only 39% approve of his job performance against 56% who disapprove.
00:15:16.000 Trends are not good for Democrats.
00:15:18.000 We know that.
00:15:20.000 And these primaries are so important that we get the right candidates.
00:15:23.000 There's some big primaries still coming up.
00:15:27.000 How many years have I been telling you about Relief Factor?
00:15:29.000 Producer Andrews right here doing an Iron Man thanks to Relief Factor.
00:15:32.000 And truth is, I know there are millions of people.
00:15:34.000 In fact, some say over 100 million people struggling with some kind of pain, maybe from exercise or just getting older.
00:15:39.000 That can do it, getting older, which is why I'm so impressed with the people at ReliefFactor.com.
00:15:43.000 They are on a mission.
00:15:44.000 You rarely see this kind of focus and commitment.
00:15:46.000 They recently shared with me that they are doubling down and want to literally double their total number of happy customers in the next year.
00:15:52.000 And I believe they'll do it.
00:15:54.000 So here's the deal: if you're struggling with back pain, neck pain, shoulder, hip, or knee pain, even general muscle aches and pain, then I'm suggesting you order their three-week quick start, still discounted, only $19.95.
00:16:04.000 Go to relieffactor.com.

00:16:16.000 Go to relieffactor.com.
00:16:18.000 That's relieffactor.com.
00:16:19.000 Check it out right now.
00:16:23.000 We have a great guest coming up here in just a second.
00:16:26.000 I actually have a copy of the book right here: The Road to Joy by Scott Drew, who is the head coach of the Baylor Bears in Waco, Texas.
00:16:36.000 I almost went to Baylor when I almost went to college, ended up not doing that.
00:16:40.000 But one of the most amazing tournament runs I remember in my memory, I'm a huge college basketball guy.
00:16:46.000 And that was when they beat Gonzaga last year.
00:16:49.000 And it's just a remarkable story.
00:16:50.000 I'm actually enjoying just flipping through the book right here.
00:16:53.000 And he's with us right now.
00:16:54.000 It is Scott Drew, author of The Road of Joy and the head coach of the Baylor Bears basketball team.
00:16:58.000 Coach Drew, thank you for joining the program.
00:17:01.000 Well, thanks for having me on it.
00:17:02.000 And I love to hear that you're a big college basketball fan.
00:17:05.000 So that's a great thing.
00:17:07.000 And the fact that you almost went to Baylor, you know, you still can come.
00:17:10.000 All right.
00:17:11.000 We can get you.
00:17:12.000 I can't.
00:17:13.000 I'm told.
00:17:16.000 If they'd take me, we'll see.
00:17:18.000 So, Coach, thank you.
00:17:23.000 I'm loving flipping through the book.
00:17:26.000 And first of all, what I love is that every chapter opens with a verse and a scripture and kind of sets the kind of framing and the tone.
00:17:35.000 So just tell our audience a little bit about your story.
00:17:38.000 I just love this one line here.
00:17:39.000 It's just amazing.
00:17:40.000 It's where you got the job at Baylor.
00:17:43.000 You said the next day I walked up to the microphone and declared that our goal was to win a national title.
00:17:49.000 My claim generated some headlines the next day, but God was the one who was ultimately writing the story.
00:17:54.000 Just tell us about your story and just kind of weave in how you won the national title.
00:18:00.000 It's awesome.
00:18:01.000 Well, similar to you, grew up with those Midwest winners.
00:18:06.000 I was in Valparaiso, Indiana.
00:18:08.000 You were in the Chicagoland area.
00:18:11.000 So we both got that lake effect snow and all that ice.
00:18:14.000 So, you know, first chance I had to go to Baylor, largest Baptist school in the nation.
00:18:20.000 So I always love being able to share my faith.
00:18:23.000 So it's a Christian school.
00:18:25.000 And the great thing is we didn't have to deal with the lake effects snow in central Texas.
00:18:30.000 So 68 degrees in February is a lot better than negative 10 wind chill.
00:18:36.000 And then from there, Baylor's got a great academic reputation.
00:18:43.000 Obviously, being the largest Baptist school, spiritually, you can pour into people.
00:18:48.000 And we call it preparing champions for life.
00:18:51.000 It's character formation, academics, success, and then spiritual growth, along with athletic excellence.
00:19:00.000 And so with us, it was just recruiting to our niche.
00:19:03.000 People that would want to send their sons and daughters to a place like Baylor and have a chance to compete at the highest level and win the national championship.
00:19:11.000 And that's what we did.
00:19:13.000 And God really blessed us, bringing some great student athletes for us to have an opportunity to coach.
00:19:20.000 That's just awesome.
00:19:21.000 And it didn't happen overnight.
00:19:22.000 So talk about the process.
00:19:24.000 There were some ups and downs.
00:19:26.000 So just talk a little bit about that and how your faith really anchored you.
00:19:30.000 And just the way you weave scripture throughout this book is just so awesome.
00:19:34.000 Just talk a little bit about that.
00:19:36.000 Well, Charlie, we all wish we could have success as quick as you've had it.
00:19:39.000 All right.
00:19:39.000 Some of us, it took a little longer.
00:19:41.000 You know, we weren't as smart as you.
00:19:42.000 So With us, the first four years really was trying to build a roster.
00:19:49.000 And then in year five, we go to the NCA tournament.
00:19:52.000 When I first got to Baylor, my dad, who's a Hall of Fame coach and somebody that I had the privilege to coach under and then become the head coach at Valparaiso University for a year before coming down here.
00:20:05.000 But at Valpo, the first four or five years were really tough on him.
00:20:10.000 And his advice was, I'm going to take you through the book of Job while you're getting this program started.
00:20:17.000 By year four, I'm like, does the book of Job ever end?
00:20:21.000 You know, I mean, like, is there other books in the Bible?
00:20:24.000 So, but, but anyway, we've always been a Christ-centered program.
00:20:29.000 And we've had a culture of joy.
00:20:33.000 And the title, Jesus Others Yourself, that's what joy stands for.
00:20:38.000 And if you have an I am third mentality, you're putting other people before you.
00:20:42.000 You're a servant leader.
00:20:44.000 People all want to be a part of that kind of team.
00:20:46.000 They want to be at work for a boss like that.
00:20:49.000 They want to be in an organization like that.
00:20:52.000 So in the Bible, you know, teacher, what's the greatest commandment of the law?
00:20:57.000 Love your God with all your heart, soul, and mind, and love your neighbors yourself.
00:21:00.000 And at Baylor, we try to put others first.
00:21:03.000 And it's fun being a part of teams like that.
00:21:06.000 Well, talk about how that works in the highly competitive atmosphere of college sports.
00:21:10.000 I mean, I have the college teams that I like.
00:21:13.000 And I mean, fans could be pretty brutal.
00:21:15.000 I mean, especially alumni and, you know, people that are given to the program, given to the university, and a lot of pressure for you to kind of deliver and to perform.
00:21:23.000 So talk to us about how that acronym, you know, Jesus others yourself, how does that play out when you're now in the suite 16, you're in the elite eight.
00:21:31.000 You know, talk about how you properly prioritize your day and how you teach these young men to look vertically, not just look inwardly at themselves all the time.
00:21:40.000 What does that look like in practice?
00:21:42.000 Great question.
00:21:43.000 So just to start out with, we usually start practice in prayer, end practice in prayer.
00:21:49.000 Players have a players-only Bible study that they attend during season once or twice a week, once every week or every other week.
00:21:59.000 We have NBA chapel services, meaning days a game, we'll run a chapel service just like they do in the NBA.
00:22:04.000 So if you're staying grounded spiritually and you're right off the court, it's a lot easier to be right on the court.
00:22:12.000 And it's kind of like eating.
00:22:13.000 You can have a great meal, but the next day you're hungry again.
00:22:17.000 So spiritually, we're trying to make sure our players are fed and growing.
00:22:20.000 We try to make sure academically they're preparing themselves for life after basketball.
00:22:25.000 And then character formation, that they're becoming all that God's created them to be.
00:22:29.000 And they're blessed to play basketball, but eventually that ball's going flat.
00:22:34.000 What are they going to do?
00:22:35.000 What kind of husbands, fathers are they going to be?
00:22:37.000 How are they going to impact and make this world a better place?
00:22:41.000 And with all of those things, we've won the game of life.
00:22:45.000 We know where we're going after life.
00:22:47.000 So God doesn't call us on earth to have a pity party.
00:22:51.000 I mean, we win a game or lose a game.
00:22:54.000 It's kind of like our own personal kids.
00:22:56.000 They win a game or lose a game.
00:22:57.000 Do we still love them?
00:22:58.000 Absolutely.
00:22:59.000 So are you upset when you lose?
00:23:02.000 Yeah.
00:23:03.000 If you like losing, you're probably not competitive.
00:23:05.000 You're not successful.
00:23:06.000 But at the same time, it's easier to go to bed at night when you know you've won the game of life and you know where you're going.
00:23:13.000 And with that, again, we bring in elite players.
00:23:17.000 They want to play at the highest level.
00:23:19.000 They want to be successful.
00:23:20.000 They want to win.
00:23:22.000 But the pressure is not the same for someone who doesn't know where they're going or why they're playing or who they're playing for.
00:23:29.000 And we call playing for an audience of one.
00:23:31.000 I mean, God gave us this talent and ability.
00:23:33.000 You play your best for him and let the chips fall where they may.
00:23:37.000 So talk a little bit about being a Christian leader.
00:23:39.000 I find this to be so interesting, which is, I believe we have a lack of leaders right now, especially leaders that are filled with faith.
00:23:47.000 Day one, you set the vision, right?
00:23:48.000 The Bible says, without a vision, the people perish.
00:23:50.000 You're like, we're going to go win the national title.
00:23:52.000 And that took years of building.
00:23:54.000 And so just talk about how important it was to have the right assistance in place, what you learned along the way to be able to kind of put that team together.
00:24:02.000 And, you know, the book talks a lot about this.
00:24:04.000 Again, it's the road to joy.
00:24:05.000 I encourage everyone to pick up a copy of what do you think are some of the biggest lessons as a personal leader that you developed over the last couple of years, especially with all the trials and kind of difficulty it was to be a basketball coach with everything that happened the last couple of years.
00:24:22.000 Well, we always say this smart take from the strong.
00:24:25.000 So you're always trying to learn from someone else.
00:24:27.000 And I think there's a lot of great Christian leaders out there.
00:24:30.000 I think sometimes we're not in places where we can talk or feel we can talk about our faith as much as we'd like to.
00:24:39.000 At the end of the day, that I'm blessed to work in a university where I can.
00:24:44.000 And with that, I know that you look at our staff and who we've surrounded ourselves with.
00:24:52.000 To me, it's not the best X and O person.
00:24:57.000 It's not the hardest worker, maybe the most talented recruiter.
00:25:02.000 It's who fits our culture.
00:25:04.000 And every day I come to work, life is too short to not be surrounded by people that make you better.
00:25:10.000 So I want stronger, smarter people in the room, but also I want men of character, men of faith.
00:25:16.000 People, iron sharpens iron.
00:25:18.000 It talks about that in the Bible.
00:25:19.000 That's what I look for in my staff.
00:25:22.000 And I'm a better husband, father because of the men that we've surrounded.
00:25:27.000 If you look at, I mean, the book Good to Great, and people talk about getting the right people on the bus.
00:25:32.000 I mean, to me, if you don't have a great staff, you're not going to be a good head coach.
00:25:38.000 The next thing is players.
00:25:39.000 If you don't have players got to have talent, they got to have ability, but if they don't fit your system and what you're about, your culture, the character that you want, they're not going to have fun on that team and they're not going to thrive on that team.
00:25:53.000 And we're not going to have fun coaching them.
00:25:56.000 And again, life is too short to be surrounded by people, energy vampires, people that take away from you.
00:26:02.000 You want people to inspire, motivate, that you can help develop and lead.
00:26:05.000 And you're not saying everybody's a saint.
00:26:08.000 We know we all sin.
00:26:09.000 We're all saved by grace through faith.
00:26:12.000 So, but we're looking for people that got great hearts and they want to compete.
00:26:18.000 They want to be a part of a team.
00:26:19.000 You'd mentioned a lot of pressure, and I told you kind of how we deal with that.
00:26:22.000 We're blessed because of Baylor.
00:26:24.000 We have great fans.
00:26:24.000 I mean, win or lose, they're always behind us, right?
00:26:28.000 That was a joke.
00:26:30.000 But we do have, we do, we do need fans that appreciate what we stand for more than just X's and O's and wins and losses.
00:26:40.000 Every college coach has to be under that kind of pressure from alumni and kind of Monday morning quarterbacks.
00:26:46.000 But considering how far you've brought the Baylor program, I think every Baylor fan needs to have a lot of gratitude, especially considering the success the last couple of years.
00:26:55.000 And so I want to kind of read one of the quotes here, which I really enjoy, which is, God loves us enough to meet us where we are, but he loves us too much to leave us there.
00:27:05.000 Can you expand on that?
00:27:07.000 Sure.
00:27:09.000 Again, Jesus came for the sick.
00:27:11.000 And I mean, all of us sin.
00:27:13.000 Early on in my faith, I thought that I get to heaven based on the grading curve, right?
00:27:20.000 Like God's going to want some people in heaven.
00:27:22.000 And if I'm going to church more than my friends, if I'm cursing less than my friends, if I'm doing this and that better than them, then surely someone's got to get up there.
00:27:33.000 But then the more you read the Bible and you understand that all of us sin, none of us earn our way into heaven.
00:27:40.000 It's not by works.
00:27:41.000 It's a free gift and it's what Jesus did dying for us on the cross.
00:27:45.000 And it's up to us.
00:27:46.000 Do we choose to take it or do we do we not?
00:27:49.000 And that's the great thing about the Christian faith.
00:27:54.000 You can't go to the tomb and find Jesus.
00:27:56.000 He's not there.
00:27:58.000 We serve a living God and He wants the best for us.
00:28:04.000 But like I can equate it to all parents out there.
00:28:08.000 Your kids, when they're age seven, eight, nine, 10, whatever, you always, you love them, but you want them to be better.
00:28:16.000 You want them to mature.
00:28:17.000 You want them to grow and you want them to improve and you want the best form.
00:28:21.000 And if we want to spoil and give our children good gifts, just think what God wants to give us.
00:28:27.000 A perfect father.
00:28:28.000 So again, that's kind of what was entailed there.
00:28:35.000 Well, it's beautiful.
00:28:36.000 And God wants to push us to the next level.
00:28:38.000 Jesus wants to push us to our best.
00:28:40.000 God loves enough to meet us where we are, but he loves us too much to leave us there.
00:28:45.000 Chapter 19 is Slay Goliath.
00:28:47.000 The verse that goes along with it is, Do not know that in a race, all the runners run, but only get one gets the prize.
00:28:54.000 Run in such a way as to get the prize.
00:28:56.000 And it talks about the national championship game and kind of leading up to that.
00:29:02.000 And there's another great quote here in the book: I pray that as a program, we use the platform that God has given us to help point people towards what true victory looks like.
00:29:10.000 That's a challenge when you're dealing with college kids that all of a sudden are on top of the world.
00:29:14.000 They win the national title.
00:29:15.000 What's your advice to our younger listeners here?
00:29:17.000 Just stay anchored and keep their faith first, Coach Drew.
00:29:21.000 Because, you know, when you win the national title, you're a pretty big deal.
00:29:24.000 How do you kind of keep everyone in check after such a big victory like that?
00:29:28.000 Well, first and foremost, hopefully, we teach fundamentals every day in basketball.
00:29:32.000 And the fundamentals are, hopefully, when they're giving interviews, they're doing joy interviews, which is giving credit to Jesus and then others, their teammates, and then themselves last.
00:29:41.000 We always say greater levels, greater devils.
00:29:44.000 And so for 100 people that can handle failure, maybe only one can handle success.
00:29:52.000 So at the end of the day, the place everyone wants to go is to the top.
00:29:58.000 And it's lonely up there.
00:29:59.000 And you got to be on point.
00:30:01.000 So you got to be more grounded than anybody else.
00:30:04.000 And we talk about that with the players all the time.
00:30:07.000 And it's a great platform that God has given us.
00:30:11.000 That's hence why we wrote the book, just to share how He's blessed us and then acknowledge what the players that have sacrificed and how they've sacrificed and the whole Baylor family to help us get to this level.
00:30:24.000 And there's things in there for business leaders.
00:30:27.000 Just, I mean, I have Christian friends that they'll do voluntary breakfasts where they'll serve breakfast and there'll be a Bible study or lunches.
00:30:39.000 They'll serve food for lunch and prayer time with their employees.
00:30:43.000 And I mean, there's so many different ways to impact people.
00:30:46.000 It's amazing just if you try to follow what Jesus did in the Bible.
00:30:51.000 I mean, so often lessons were learned over meals, and those are great opportunities to share your faith and courage.
00:30:58.000 And who doesn't like a free meal?
00:31:01.000 So there's a lot of different things in there that hopefully motivate, inspire, and allow people to think outside the box.
00:31:07.000 Because again, going back to your first thing, I think there's a lot of great Christian leaders out there, and everyone just needs sometimes encouragement.
00:31:15.000 And I know with us, we've always had a Christ-centered program, but when Clemson won the national title and Dabo talked about their culture of joy and what joy meant to them, and he got it from Tony Dungy.
00:31:27.000 inspired me to make it simpler how we do things and reinforce how we do things.
00:31:33.000 And in coaching, we're always trying to apply the kiss theory, keep it simple, stupid.
00:31:38.000 And the easier things are, the easier they are for people to understand and follow.
00:31:45.000 That's beautiful.
00:31:46.000 So any closing thoughts on the book, Coach Drew?
00:31:48.000 Again, it's The Road to Joy.
00:31:50.000 Anything we didn't cover that you want our audience to be aware of?
00:31:52.000 Well, what I always say is if it was up to coaches in my book, it would have been a picture book.
00:31:58.000 But Don Yeager has had 11 New York Times bestsellers.
00:32:03.000 He did a great job in helping write the book.
00:32:06.000 It's a really easy read.
00:32:08.000 I know there's principles that apply to everyone out there.
00:32:11.000 And those are things that we've done that hopefully help inspire, motivate.
00:32:19.000 And at the end of the day, the book was written just to share what God's done in our program.
00:32:24.000 And again, Charlie, I think you might attest to this.
00:32:29.000 I mean, you're at a great place and position.
00:32:32.000 God's really blessed you.
00:32:34.000 You look in the Bible.
00:32:35.000 It's not the biggest, the strongest, the fastest that always win.
00:32:39.000 Because, I mean, if Goliath beat David, there is no story because Goliaths are supposed to beat David.
00:32:44.000 But it's the stories in the Bible like Gideon and David.
00:32:49.000 Those are the ones that God chooses to use.
00:32:53.000 And all of us can be used by God for a great purpose.
00:32:58.000 Amen.
00:32:59.000 Coach, thank you so much for joining us.
00:33:01.000 It is The Road to Joy by Coach Scott Drew.
00:33:04.000 Thank you so much, Coach.
00:33:07.000 You know, in basketball, we can do an A1.
00:33:09.000 Go ahead.
00:33:09.000 I got a little time.
00:33:10.000 You said that you're a basketball fan.
00:33:14.000 Is there a chance we get you to a Baylor basketball game next year?
00:33:17.000 What about?
00:33:18.000 I would be honored.
00:33:19.000 Done.
00:33:19.000 Yes.
00:33:21.000 I will come and I would love it.
00:33:23.000 Deal.
00:33:24.000 Okay.
00:33:24.000 Thanks for having me on the show.
00:33:26.000 God bless you.
00:33:26.000 Thank you so much.
