00:00:00.000 Hi guys we're here with Mike who's he's here at the the Big Four Roadhouse this
00:00:06.780 is a Stay Free Alberta event and Mike you're wearing a Canadian flag why are
00:00:12.420 you here I you know what I'm here just to peacefully protest I love Canada I
00:00:17.040 want to stay you know and I want to give people the option of not not signing and
00:00:22.380 not you know ripping Canada apart what would you say is your do you believe the
00:00:28.320 primary reason people are here to sign is what do you think their main grievances
00:00:32.460 are well I think a lot of people want the freedom and to be out from what they
00:00:36.900 see the the the federal government doing and the laws that are enacting there's
00:00:41.460 also financial component I think that they're looking at I think that's
00:00:43.800 probably based on the conversations I've had that's what people are most
00:00:48.120 concerned about right do you think there's any validity to their concerns
00:00:51.840 from an economic standpoint yeah I think there are I think but I think there's a
00:00:55.920 lot of nuance to all of the arguments and what what I have noticed most often
00:01:01.160 is that people don't dig into the nuance yes I think that's an issue across the
00:01:07.060 board what would your what would your primary reason for staying in Canada be I
00:01:12.900 love Canada I want the freedom to be able to move around you know live and work in
00:01:16.880 different places and and stay with this this country and what would you say let's just
00:01:25.120 say that there was a successful referendum voting in favor of leaving
00:01:28.800 Canada what would be your main fears that you would have of what that would
00:01:32.520 result in I think the biggest fear I've got is that Alberta would be sucked into
00:01:37.740 the states and with all that's going on there I think it's probably a really bad
00:01:41.960 idea so I'd like to avoid that stay in Canada it's not perfect Canada has lots of
00:01:49.040 problems with it but maybe we can figure it out does it give you any assurance
00:01:53.540 that the organizers of the state free Alberta have explicitly said that they do not have
00:01:59.420 an interest in becoming a 51st state hmm um whether or not the organizers uh have that
00:02:08.260 intention um what I think what will happen is that that likely Alberta would be drawn in
00:02:15.240 because on our own landlocked in the middle of North America it's going to be fairly difficult
00:02:20.280 to operate in my opinion yeah that is a fear a lot of people have that even no matter what
00:02:24.340 the intentions are that's what might happen um awesome well is there anything that you would
00:02:29.720 leave our a lot of our viewers are pro-independence advocates is there anything
00:02:33.680 that you would say to them that you think might get them to change their minds
00:02:37.960 uh all that's been going on the past little while reminds me a lot of uh Czechoslovakia in 1937
00:02:47.840 right uh and that's where my family is originally from and the the the Germans um uh were able to
00:02:57.580 influence the the Germans in Czechoslovakia and got a fervor people excited to to to join join the Nazi
00:03:07.840 party and very quickly uh the Germany took over and then continued so um I'd be just nervous that
00:03:16.380 we're going to be pulled into something so that's it hey super appreciate your thoughts man thank you
00:03:22.500 for chatting with us not everyone would so appreciate that of course thank you
