00:00:00.880 Well, it's amazing the momentum. You can feel it, you can see it with your eyes, you can hear it.
00:00:06.740 The energy in this place is incredible today.
00:00:09.640 The fact that we sold it out so fast, it shows that this is a really credible, capable organization that we've started.
00:00:17.400 And we have a high degree of confidence in Albertans.
00:00:20.720 And we're going to work really hard to deliver a win on October 19th.
00:00:23.900 hey guys how cool is this can you hear me okay i was out of independence i was done i've been in
00:00:37.020 this thing from the very beginning and i started to see that this movement was heading in a
00:00:41.580 direction that wasn't going to win and i was i was one foot out the door because i didn't think we
00:00:47.540 were a win and i didn't think it'd be worth it i wasn't going to do it if we didn't think we can
00:00:51.100 win. Guys, that's changed. When I got the call from Keith to join this group, and I understood
00:00:59.020 what they were going to do, because Keith and Tanya were very reluctant to be as front-facing
00:01:06.400 as they were. They did it not for their own benefit. They did it for us. That's why they're
00:01:12.380 doing this. You may or may not know this, but Keith is a very successful lawyer who shut his
00:01:22.900 law practice down to do this full time so he can do this full time. And what he's doing here,
00:01:28.060 he's doing for free. This is not about him. This is about us. And I'm so grateful for the work
00:01:33.640 that they're doing. Tanya Clements is, she's the humble, warm blanket that this movement needs.
00:01:40.020 She's all of us.
00:01:40.900 She is the most humble, gracious human I know.
00:01:45.000 And it's such an honor to be a part of this thing.
00:01:47.440 Guys, I want to talk briefly about the vote that's coming up in October.
00:01:52.460 A lot of people were upset when this vote was announced the way it was.
00:01:56.100 A referendum to have a referendum.
00:01:57.720 What the hell is that, right?
00:02:00.260 This is the gift to the undecided voter.
00:02:02.420 This is the gift to the voter who says,
00:02:05.460 I think we can make Canada better.
00:02:08.360 I'm not ready to leave yet. To those people, I always ask the same question. Where is your line?
00:02:17.000 Right? For a lot of us, the people who've decided that we want out and that's non-negotiable,
00:02:21.800 I think the line was when Mark Carney won that last election for a lot of us, right?
00:02:26.940 We thought, well, surely to God, we're going to get changed now after
00:02:30.160 whatever the hell that was with Trudeau. And then we're going to do more of it. And for a lot of us,
00:02:35.260 that went, ah, this is the last straw. But there's a lot of other people that still have hope. And
00:02:39.640 I'm not here to mock them or make fun of them, but I am here to ask them a question. Where's your
00:02:45.420 line? Where is it? Because our line was crossed. Your line hasn't been crossed yet. Well, for those
00:02:51.340 people, the gift that this vote is on in October of this year to see if we get a referendum,
00:02:57.220 this is their opportunity to see how much better Canada can be. Because when we win the first one,
00:03:03.560 we're going to find out what the best deal possible is
00:03:06.180 with the rest of Canada, aren't we?
00:03:07.640 We're going to find out how badly they want to keep us.
00:03:10.480 And we're going to find out how good the deal will be
00:03:13.300 or if this is as good as it's going to get.
00:03:16.720 Because for a lot of those undecided,
00:03:18.520 what they don't know is, can it get better?
00:03:21.620 Can we get a better deal?
00:03:23.260 Can we get a deal that we'd be happy with?
00:03:25.480 Well, we're going to find out.
00:03:27.520 So for you undecided voters out there, 0.81
00:03:29.680 I would strongly encourage you to arm Alberta
00:03:32.060 with the best negotiating tool we are ever going to have. 0.99
00:03:36.140 A real threat at leaving.
00:03:48.440 The people in this room who have made up your mind,
00:03:50.840 you have a very important job.
00:03:53.740 We are going to be, I don't want to say attacked,
00:03:57.900 but the other side has an unlimited budget
00:03:59.840 with what they can do to stop us from doing this.
00:04:02.060 right? In terms of how they're going to go about it. This is a true grassroots movement.
00:04:07.400 So for the people in this room, I want to challenge you all to get very brave.
00:04:11.380 And I want to challenge you to amplify the voices of Keith and Tanya as loud as you can. Your
00:04:17.740 friends, your neighbors, stickers on your car, signs on your front step, everything you can do,
00:04:24.580 flags on your front lawn, everything you can do to amplify your voice. Because what they're going
00:04:30.100 to do, just like they've done in the past, they're going to try to trick people into thinking we're
00:04:34.080 just a bunch of small percentage of the population, and we're not. And the way that we're going to let
00:04:39.260 the undecided know that they're not alone in feeling this way is by getting extremely loud.
00:04:43.820 So that's the job that everybody in this room has. It's to get brave. It's to get loud. It's to
00:04:49.260 amplify their voice. And we're going to show them that we mean business, because it's time. It's
00:04:57.580 time for a fair deal for this province, one way or another. So let's find out what that deal is so
00:05:02.740 that when the real vote comes, everybody knows what we're voting for. I'm going to introduce
00:05:13.980 Tanya Clemens next. Tanya, I just, I love this woman. She is so great. She's turned into a
00:05:19.860 wonderful friend. She's a, she's a sister. She's a friend. I just, I just adore her. So with that
00:05:25.820 said, thank you all for coming. Thank you, Keith and Tanya, for letting me be a part of this. And
00:05:30.520 Tanya, over to you.
00:05:39.780 Good morning, everyone. Thank you so much again for being here. If you weren't here for the very
00:05:46.360 first little round of speeches, I just wanted to let you know that when we first started out,
00:05:50.600 we had a capacity of 500 people hoping that we could get that many people out in Calgary
00:05:55.160 to talk about Alberta independence and engage in the conversation,
00:05:58.580 and that sold out in 24 hours, or 48 hours.
00:06:01.580 So then we expanded to 1,000, and that again sold out.
00:06:04.520 So thank you so much for all of your support.
00:06:07.260 And it tells me that Albertans are hungry for this conversation.
00:06:14.000 I think that gives all of us a huge reason to be hopeful.
00:06:18.000 And before I go any further, I just want to thank our rock star group of volunteers.
00:06:22.060 They are absolute rock stars.
00:06:23.900 the incredible team here at Ranchman's who've set this all up and provided the
00:06:28.460 awesome facility, and everyone behind the Let Alberta Decide initiative. Thank you.
00:06:35.000 I also want to thank my friend and co-lead Keith Wilson. You might know him.
00:06:45.780 Most of you know him as one of Canada's leading constitutional lawyers, but I've
00:06:53.020 I've also come to know over the last year the man, my friend, of tremendous integrity who cares deeply about Alberta
00:07:00.320 and believes our children deserve something better than simply accepting the status quo.
00:07:06.520 And I also want to recognize that Keith and I did not start this conversation.
00:07:10.180 This started long, long ago.
00:07:12.180 There are people in this room who have spent 20 or 30 years or even longer who have been talking about Alberta's future.
00:07:20.500 and many of them were dismissed as that conversation was playing out.
00:07:26.080 Some were even ridiculed.
00:07:28.040 Others were told this conversation would never matter.
00:07:31.160 Well, I look around the room today and it's your day too
00:07:34.640 because this conversation is happening.
00:07:38.180 So why did Keith and I launch Let Alberta Decide?
00:07:40.740 The answer is actually very simple
00:07:42.680 because we believe the conversation has changed.
00:07:47.300 A few years ago, if you mentioned Alberta independence,
00:07:50.500 The first question people would ask was, is that even possible?
00:07:54.920 But now people are asking, what would happen to my pension?
00:07:58.960 What about currency? What about trade? What about indigenous partnerships?
00:08:02.920 What would the transition actually look like?
00:08:05.460 And those are thoughtful questions being posed by thoughtful Albertans.
00:08:10.160 And that's what I want Alberta to be remembered for.
00:08:13.640 We are thoughtful and we engage in conversation.
00:08:17.160 We're not here to tell Albertans what to think.
00:08:21.000 We're trying to encourage the conversation
00:08:23.160 and help them explore the merits of an independent Alberta.
00:08:27.380 And that means answering some difficult questions very honestly.
00:08:31.360 It means acknowledging that there will be challenges,
00:08:33.780 not pretending they don't exist.
00:08:35.660 It means making our case with facts and respect and optimism
00:08:39.940 because we believe that Alberta has absolutely everything it needs
00:08:45.740 to be successful. And that's not just because of what's under our feet and our resource wealth.
00:08:59.780 It's also because of who's standing on it. The people in this room represent exactly what makes
00:09:05.960 Alberta extraordinary. People who work hard, people who build, people who solve problems
00:09:12.360 instead of waiting for someone else to solve them
00:09:14.800 or tell them what the path is.
00:09:17.660 And that's always been Alberta's story.
00:09:20.320 I believe it's going to be Alberta's future too.
00:09:23.580 So thank you for spending your Sunday morning with us.
00:09:26.260 Thank you for believing this conversation matters.
00:09:28.980 I hope you enjoy the breakfast.
00:09:30.400 I hope you meet someone new.
00:09:31.980 I hope you have some questions and conversations.
00:09:35.240 And I hope when you leave here today,
00:09:36.700 you're more excited about what Alberta can be
00:09:39.620 than when you got here.
00:09:41.940 So welcome to Let Alberta Decide, and we're so glad you're here.
00:09:54.540 Thank you, Tanya.
00:09:57.280 Just before we get to Keith, we're going to do something in just a moment.
00:10:00.460 But as Adam said, there's an unlimited budget coming in here to fight against us, against what we believe in.
00:10:07.280 And believe it or not, we're not going to get a fair shake from the $1.4 billion that goes to the CBC, right?
00:10:15.300 So we need to raise a lot of money.
00:10:17.760 So I was given the opportunity here to talk about an event that's coming up this weekend.
00:10:23.360 The Independence Telethon is a go on Saturday from 11 to 11 on all the Independence YouTube channels, X and Facebook this weekend.
00:10:32.940 Let me just read who some of the hosts are.
00:10:34.800 Myrta Proud Dad, who's here today.
00:10:40.360 Marty up north.
00:10:43.680 Macy Madison and Mike Holmes from At Home with Holmes are here today.
00:10:48.620 Our good friend Igor, who is here today.
00:10:52.120 We're going to go live from Mexico with Nat and the guy.
00:10:55.720 They're going to be on as well.
00:10:57.780 Our great friend from Mirror the Whistle Stop, Chris Scott, will be on this weekend.
00:11:02.980 Mr. Alberta will be on as well
00:11:06.740 my good friends Mike and James will be from our Edmonton studio
00:11:11.600 from Critical Compass, thanks so much guys, we appreciate you
00:11:15.040 also Mr. and Mrs. Albertan and John
00:11:18.740 talking to Albertans will be hosting a party from Paul's Pizza
00:11:22.320 8 to 11 Saturday night, you're all invited
00:11:25.260 and our good friend Derek, unacceptable fringe will be one of the hosts
00:11:31.160 as well we need to raise money folks so if you can contribute 11 to 11 this weekend lots of guests
00:11:37.520 will be on as well and thanks to Keith and Tanya for allowing me to say this we've got six TPAs
00:11:42.960 we're going to be raising money for and if we can max them out this weekend it'll give us a good
00:11:48.000 chance to win in October before we bring Keith up on stage I want to bring Tanya's sister up here
00:11:53.440 Melissa McWilliam uh she's going to get your attention so let's welcome Melissa onto the 0.99
00:11:58.960 Come on up here, Melissa. 0.97
00:12:00.960 I've always wanted to see that live.
00:12:29.180 and now I don't know whether I ever want to see it again.
00:12:31.280 Oh, my God.
00:12:34.400 From Let Alberta Decide, co-chair Keith Wilson.
00:12:46.700 Prime Minister Carney's in town.
00:12:48.620 I wasn't sure if that whip was for me or for him.
00:12:51.400 as tanya mentioned we planned this thing on the 26th of june it was a last minute decision
00:13:02.920 and i didn't know how many people would show up and as tanya mentioned we sold out the first 500
00:13:09.680 within about 30 hours and then we talked to the venue and the ranchman's been amazing
00:13:15.000 very very uh supportive we doubled that and we sold out in grand total of five days
00:13:25.440 just over three weeks ago we launched or just under three weeks ago we launched our campaign
00:13:30.680 and we've already raised almost a quarter of a million dollars almost 250 000
00:13:36.420 dollars what that tells you is momentum is real and you are real there are people that want the
00:13:49.140 the population to believe that this movement is fading or isn't real
00:13:55.060 look around you you are the future of alberta we can do this
00:13:59.140 and the reason you're here and the reason why we're going to win option two vote on october 19th
00:14:12.460 is because alberta can do better we know we can do better we can do better for our kids we can do
00:14:20.660 better for our seniors we can do better for the safety of our communities we can do better for
00:14:25.540 are preserving our culture. We can do better economically if we can free ourselves from 0.80
00:14:32.160 the arbitrary control called Ottawa. Alberta has outgrown Canada. Canada no longer works
00:14:45.840 for Alberta. Every single day, to be very, very transparent with you, there's a guy on this
00:14:56.300 shoulder. He says, Wilson, what the heck are you doing, man? Like, you know, there's this thing
00:15:04.240 called golfing and winter properties in Phoenix with pools. And this guy says, yeah, but wait a
00:15:13.460 minute. That's just money. And by every single objective measure, it makes sense for Alberta
00:15:21.480 to be independent. By every single objective measure, our kids and our grandkids will have
00:15:35.840 a better, more prosperous, successful life if we can free ourselves from the arbitrary
00:15:41.780 control of Ottawa. We really need your support in a number of ways. Number one, the fact that you're
00:15:56.540 here and in the numbers that we have and we had to turn people away sends a message. This movement
00:16:04.480 is growing and it is solid and we can win this we have we're doing two sign campaigns
00:16:12.960 we're doing a lawn sign campaign there's so many other good sign campaigns out there
00:16:17.280 we're doing it just because we've had so many requests so there are we did we have 500 signs
00:16:22.160 here the the printer was trying to get a thousand but he ran out of time for you to take they're
00:16:26.640 free of course but we're also about to launch our large sign campaign and if you've been driving
00:16:31.280 around calgary you'll see these big signs we're going to match those uh there's some prototypes
00:16:37.200 of our signs over in the corner outside here behind the saddle so you can see our large sign
00:16:42.320 format we're going to need volunteers though because we need guys we need a shop we need a
00:16:46.560 bay somewhere where we can assemble these the frames for these signs and then we need guys with
00:16:51.200 pickup trucks to go and to install them so there's volunteer tables outside over there if you could
00:16:56.560 could go up and maybe put your name down if you could volunteer that would be appreciative but
00:17:01.360 what's so important is the practical things you do in your daily lives please when you're
00:17:08.200 interacting with others uh particularly those who are still in the either haven't thought about it
00:17:13.920 or in the camp of they want to stay in canada and find common ground uh don't get pushy with them
00:17:20.380 ask them things that cause them to talk about alberta's place in confederation and how we're
00:17:27.820 being badly disrespected and taken advantage of and create an opening and just talk to them a
00:17:35.000 little bit don't get pushy get them thinking about it and the bottom line is we can do better
00:17:41.400 and if they go into the ballot box on the 19th asking themselves that question can alberta do
00:17:48.080 better versus am I happy with the status quo? Nothing needs to change. I think you know what
00:17:54.320 they're going to answer. We can do this. Thanks for coming out. We're going to win.
00:18:18.080 Thank you.
