In this episode of The Krusty Canuck Podcast, I discuss the tragic story of the First Nations Residential School system, and how we need to wake up to the fact that we have a history of racism within our society.
00:01:06.000In recent events, 215 bodies were discovered in Kamloops at a former residential school.
00:01:12.020Correction, not the bodies, but the remains of some young people.
00:01:16.140Young, precious individuals, ladies and gentlemen.
00:01:18.480Yes, Canada has a history of the residential schooling conglomerate brought to you by the clergy and provincial and federal governments alike.
00:01:27.940Now, I'm not going to sit here and point fingers at whatever prime minister or this individual or that individual.
00:01:33.460Excuse me, but since the better part of the 1880s, as far as I know and what I've read thus far, yes, Sir John A. Macdonald was partially responsible for that.
00:01:43.640So was every prime minister thereafter, and so was every conglomerate of the Catholic, Anglican, United, and Presbyterian churches.
00:01:50.300So, I'm not going to sit here and promote that we put this shit under the rug.
00:01:56.240We have to deal with it, and deal with it now.
00:01:59.780After watching some of the mainstream media, CTV, CBC, and Global, and some native elders weighing in and expressing their opinions and their thoughts on the whole thing.
00:02:15.440Throughout history, we have been taught about genocides and about what happened to these people over here and those people over there.
00:02:22.180What happened during World War I with the Armenians and the Turks.
00:02:25.020What happened with the Jews and the Germans.
00:02:28.640What happened with certain Chinese and certain Japanese and Koreans during the Japanese onslaught during the 1930s and 40s during World War II.
00:02:39.200Now, when I look at history, when I look at the discovery of the New World, from the late 1500s to 1600s, 1700s, 1800s, respectively, the Spanish Empire were evil.
00:03:18.420And when you look at the social spectrums we have overcome and adapted to the past 50 years, we are a hell of a lot better off than what those wankers were back in the 1860s.
00:03:31.340The United States just overcame a civil war, a devastating civil war, and yet they had their problems, too, and their issues with First Nations.
00:04:17.580And let's remember, too, how society treated all of its children at that time as well.
00:04:22.900Let's remember how children were treated like cattle, worse than cattle, when it come to throwing them in coal mines for the sake of a few extra bucks to be saved.
00:12:14.640And the guys I served with are fucking phenomenal human beings.
00:12:19.040We saw some wonderful things, did some wonderful things, got into some firefights, saw some action, all that good stuff.
00:12:26.460Wasn't fucking Hollywood, but we were fighting for something bigger than ourselves.
00:12:32.280And if it means you're helping the little guy out, it doesn't matter if they're from Afghanistan or from this country or that country or even home here in Canada.
00:12:43.800And now, after seeing all this BS the past six years, especially with our federal government and provincial governments alike,
00:12:50.760and now finding this garbage out, this inhumane fucking mandate that the clergy and the presiding governments of that time promoted and did and kept under the rug.
00:13:05.780It's more than just a slap in the face, ladies and gentlemen.
00:13:10.180It's a real kick in the proverbial balls on how we were governed at one time and how our grandparents were raised and our parents were raised, too.
00:13:20.040Now, for any politician out there to this day who sits there and says, oh, we're systematically racist.
00:13:26.500Well, I can say we're systematically ignorant, okay?
00:19:19.240There are a lot of people that came to Canada during that time that come from very, very wealthy families that set up homesteads, that set up mansions and set up factories.
00:19:57.880And to any of my First Nation listeners out there.
00:20:01.440You know, if you want to talk to me, if you don't feel that you want to talk to somebody else, if you want to talk to me, please reach out to me.
00:20:16.540Not only am I going to offer a listening opportunity to my veteran friends and what have you and to people that really need to talk, but I'm still reaching out to my native listeners out there, too.
00:20:28.920If you want to talk to me about something, or if you have information for me, please, just get a hold of me in the links in the description there.
00:20:38.280I'm willing to listen, ladies and gentlemen.
00:20:39.880And not because I'm hoping to get a seat in Parliament as a candidate for the Veterans Coalition Party, but as an adult, as a man, as someone who wants to hear the story, someone who wants to know.
00:21:06.040You know, any clergy, any government office that willfully and willingly stands by those mandates to this day, well, they're just fucking idiots.
00:21:15.600But at the time, they're still idiots, too.
00:21:35.580And I guess you can say maybe society at the time thought it was right, but we all know now it's wrong.
00:21:40.720But I'd also like to know, too, how many politicians that are still alive, that were still accepting that behavior in the 1960s, 70s, 80s, and up until they closed the last residential school in 1996.
00:21:58.060How many governments since then have known and did and said nothing about it?
00:22:04.220When we're constantly being fucking reminded about the whole marginalization and the systemic this and systemic that, oh my god, my feelings are hurt, please help me!
00:22:14.700Well, it's not a matter of your feelings, it's a matter of your fucking actions and lack of them.
00:22:20.660So, I'm going to open the floor to another debate.
00:22:25.760I've said this before in the show, okay?
00:22:28.560I would like any politician that was alive at that time, and it really wasn't that long ago, ladies and gentlemen, okay, to justify what happened and why it happened, okay?
00:22:45.580So, any politician out there is listening.
00:22:47.520I don't care if you're conservative, liberal, NDP, green, rhinoceros, I don't care what you represent.
00:22:52.500I dare anybody to justify what happened, okay?
00:23:00.740We can talk about the social structure, which I just did, the social structure at the time, yes, okay?
00:23:06.120But let's say from 1969 to 78, when Pierre Elliott Trudeau was the prime minister,
00:23:10.980and how much cahoots did he have with the clergy at that time to still allow these schools to fucking operate,
00:23:17.360especially when he was the first one that tore the horn of multiculturalism,
00:23:20.540and yet the whole time, he's talking about multiculturalism, we had it in our backyard the whole fucking time, right?
00:23:29.060So, my listeners, I encourage you to go out and talk to First Nations members,
00:23:33.320to go to reservation, have a conversation, share a cup of tea, have some tea,
00:23:38.040share some tobacco, share some wisdom with each other,
