00:00:44.840 25th or 26 1996 was an american child beauty queen who was killed at the age of six in her family's 1.00

00:00:49.760 home in boulder colorado a long handwritten handwritten ransom note was found in the home

00:00:54.920 her father john let me allow this real real quick her father john found the girl's body in the

00:01:01.060 basement of their house about seven hours after she had been reported missing she had sustained a

00:01:05.400 broken skull from a blow to the head and had been strangled a garage was found tied around her neck

00:01:09.600 the autopsy report stated that john benet's official cause of death was asphyxia by strangulation

00:01:14.380 associated with a cranial cerebral trauma okay so head trauma uh her brain her death was ruled a

00:01:21.640 homicide the case generated worldwide public and media interest in part because her mother

00:01:25.560 patsy ramsey a former beauty queen had entered john benet into a series of child beauty pageants 0.98

00:01:29.860 the crime is still considered a cold case remains an open investigation with the boulder police

00:01:34.360 department the boulder police department initially suspected that the ransom note played had been

00:01:38.100 written by patsy and that the note and appearance of john benet's body had been staged by her parents

00:01:42.460 in order to cover up the murder you're you're you're literally telling the whole well no no i'm not 0.90

00:01:48.280 gonna go into the woman be quiet stupid all right i'm i'm uh obviously i'm just going over the little 0.96

00:01:54.100 basic stuff here and then we're gonna continue on but um uh and then what was i gonna say here sorry 0.97

00:02:00.320 the boulder police initially suspected that ransom note had been written by patsy and that the note and

00:02:04.680 appearance of john benet's body had been staged by her parents in order to cover up the murder

00:02:08.520 okay in 1998 the police and district attorney both said that john benet's brother burke who was nine

00:02:13.080 years old at the time of her death was not a suspect all right so that's kind of a summary guys of

00:02:17.180 what's going on here but we're going to go ahead and cover this documentary which pretty good shout

00:02:21.840 out to angie for finding this documentary so we're going to play this and uh react to it and give some

00:02:30.400 commentary so yeah without further ado angie got anything you want to say before we play it no we can do it

00:02:35.920 this frantic voice belonged to patsy ramsey the mother of six-year-old john benet ramsey from boulder

00:03:03.340 colorado patsy discovered her daughter's disappearance after finding a ransom note 1.00

00:03:08.220 as she walked down her steps the day after christmas she immediately called the police for help

00:03:13.800 in a tragic turn of events the lifeless body of john benet would be found in the basement of the home

00:03:20.360 later that day

00:03:21.360 keep your babies close to you there's someone out there

00:03:29.960 was it an abduction gone wrong or was john benet's murder the goal all along

00:03:40.800 what really happened in that basement on that cold christmas night in 1996

00:04:09.480 documentaries on this but i mean more of the issues with them they were just like boring not as good

00:04:13.680 or yeah um they rambled way too much about like meaningless details so gotcha okay our case of john

00:04:22.220 benet ramsey if you still haven't subscribed to our channel please hit the subscribe button and press

00:04:28.000 the notification bell below let's dive right into this mystery without any further ado

00:04:33.520 in 1979 former beauty queen patsy was only 22 when she met a 14 year senior businessman john ramsey

00:04:42.600 the couple were married the following year on november 5th 1980

00:04:46.760 yeah because he had that you know what i'm saying we're going to talk about their money here in a second

00:04:51.200 john was divorced from his first wife with whom he had three children

00:04:54.880 after seven years of marriage patsy gave birth to their first son

00:04:59.140 burke ramsey who was born on january 27th 1987

00:05:02.900 with his keen interest in business and a master's degree in business administration

00:05:08.060 in 1989 john formed the advanced product group

00:05:11.880 one of three companies that later merged to become access graphics

00:05:15.520 the following year on august 6th 1990

00:05:18.900 patsy gave birth to their second child

00:05:21.100 a daughter in atlanta naming her john benet patricia ramsey

00:05:25.420 her first name an homage to her father and her middle name to her mother

00:05:30.020 shortly after her birth in 1991 the family moved to boulder colorado

00:05:43.460 i will say that i don't agree with putting um children in pageants i think it's a little weird

00:05:49.540 and strange and i don't think it's appropriate granted i know it's something that's been around

00:05:53.840 forever but i don't think uh i just don't believe in

00:05:57.400 beautifying and or sexualizing children i just i just disagree with it

00:06:02.320 used to be a pageant person too yeah really

00:06:05.220 my mom took me out because of this

00:06:07.600 because of what you're saying oh because it was like too yeah

00:06:11.220 they will like just make us do like fashion shows like 1.00

00:06:14.140 like they're really like unnecessary stuff that we

00:06:16.960 didn't need to do yeah but as being kids you know like

00:06:19.920 so yeah she took me out yeah i i just i just i couldn't picture my daughter wearing makeup as a

00:06:25.640 child you know what i mean i just i just don't like that so

00:06:28.120 i mean i i get it like pageants are like a thing but i i disagree with them i don't think we should have

00:06:34.380 little girls in pageants but that's just me

00:06:37.480 go for the business moving into a mansion in boulder the ramses were one of the wealthiest

00:06:43.400 families in boulder alongside the 15 bedroom mansion the family owned two private jets one

00:06:49.940 yacht and one holiday home in michigan john was at that time the ceo of access graphics

00:06:56.200 which would go on to become a billion dollar company by selling unix-based computer systems

00:07:01.480 his net worth was estimated at 6.4 million dollars by 1996

00:07:06.220 while john took care of the finances socialite patsy devoted most of her time at home looking

00:07:12.360 after her two children burke was a shy and quiet kid but john benet was very well spoken and outgoing

00:07:19.360 she was she was a spark plug she she was very extroverted you know we say she showed up in 1.00

00:07:25.820 life it's like ta-da i'm here you know starting from when john benet was very young patsy entered

00:07:32.620 her in children's beauty contests and she was tremendous in her performances with her poised

00:07:37.900 smile bouncy blonde hair and glittery costumes with her mother's training who was a pageant girl 1.00

00:07:44.240 herself john benet won the first pageant she was ever entered into and would go on to win many

00:07:49.920 more trophies in her short life she attended high peaks elementary school by the time she turned

00:07:55.240 six in 1996 the christmas celebrations in 1996 began like any other christmas little john benet

00:08:03.700 got a bike as a christmas gift that year the ramsey family spent the and real quick just so you guys

00:08:09.400 know uh six seven seven to six million dollars back then was approximately 13 million today as far as

00:08:16.100 inflation goes back in 96 and you know the crazy part is is that um she's my age guys i was born in 1990 as

00:08:21.980 well so this is wild to me that you know and tragic that someone will lose their life so early

00:08:28.840 on evening at a christmas party hosted by family friend fleet white according to statements while

00:08:35.560 returning home john benet had fallen asleep in the car so john carried her up the stairs to her room and

00:08:41.540 put her to bed at around 9 30 p.m shortly after patsy and john went to bed as they planned to get up

00:08:48.080 early to prepare for a trip to their holiday home on lake michigan

00:08:51.140 the following day on december 26 1996 patsy woke just after 5 a.m as she was walking down the stairs

00:09:02.800 to the kitchen she found a two and a half page ransom note the note said that john benet had been kidnapped

00:09:08.840 by a small foreign faction and was being held for a ransom of 118 000 which needed to be exchanged the

00:09:16.260 next day for her safe return the letter also warned that if the money was not delivered or the police

00:09:21.960 contacted her child would be killed

00:09:24.640 118 000 back then guys is roughly 226 000 today an hysterical patsy yelled to john as she ran back up 0.99

00:09:34.820 the stairs and opened the door to john benet's room discovering that she wasn't there they made the

00:09:40.600 decision to call the police we were kidnapping all right please explain to me what's going on okay

00:09:47.620 there we have a there's a note left and our daughter's gone a note was left and your daughter

00:09:52.840 is gone how old is your daughter six years old she's gone six years old it was at 5 25 a.m when the 9-1-1

00:10:02.480 call was dispatched deputies from the boulder police department arrived at the ramsey family home

00:10:08.260 just seven minutes after the call came in meanwhile the ramses called several friends and family

00:10:13.620 members over to their home the officers conducted a quick search of the house and reported no obvious

00:10:19.140 signs of forced entry or any struggle the only room sectioned off was john benet's room which they

00:10:25.460 believed was the kidnapping scene upon finding no evidence in the ransom letter at first glance

00:10:32.420 detectives had no other option but to wait for the ransom call that was supposed to come in between

00:10:37.300 eight and ten a.m based on the note when you get home you'll put the money in a brown paper bag i

00:10:42.900 will call you between eight and ten a.m tomorrow to instruct you on delivery however even after

00:10:48.580 waiting for several hours no such call and most of the time guys these ransom things never work out

00:10:53.620 whether you know the person is killed anyway or they can't get the money or something occurs it it

00:11:00.500 almost always fails came in at around 1 p.m john was asked by detectives to search the whole house

00:11:07.700 top to bottom to check if anything was missing john's friend fleet white decided to join him in the search

00:11:14.660 and together they decided to start from the bottom of the house which is the basement as john and fleet

00:11:20.100 were walking through the basement they opened the door to a disused wine cellar that had been overlooked

00:11:25.140 by investigators during the initial search there they were confronted with a gruesome scene inside

00:11:32.340 the darkened basement room in a corner little john benet was lying lifeless wrapped in a white blanket

00:11:38.420 and a sweatshirt her eyes were closed her mouth was covered with black duct tape and a nylon rope was 1.00

00:11:44.420 wrapped tightly around her neck her right hand was bound with a piece of rope which was also used to fashion

00:11:50.580 a handcrafted garotte used to strangle her john benet was wearing a white knit shirt with a sequin

00:11:56.500 decorated star on its chest and her white underwear was stained with urine john immediately picked up 0.91

00:12:02.820 his daughter's body loosened up the ropes tore the tape off her mouth and brought her to the upstairs living 0.98

00:12:08.340 room potentially destroying crucial evidence in the process yeah and that's really bad for destroying evidence

00:12:14.180 big loose for the police the colorado police department yeah that's because they left these

00:12:20.180 people contaminate the crime scene yeah yeah and i mean i get it it's like an emotional thing

00:12:27.220 so they're like you know you see your daughter there you're not going to think twice like oh yeah let

00:12:30.980 me preserve the crime scene you're thinking oh she might be still alive let me try to do something

00:12:35.380 you know so yeah and the process of doing that they absolutely ruined but they also like

00:12:40.260 the parents called people and friends and neighbors to help for the search of the of the girl

00:12:47.140 and they also walked around the house they were checking everywhere so they they it up yep absolutely

00:12:53.140 absolutely and they're not sworn law enforcement officers so them going ahead and finding evidence

00:12:56.340 isn't going to help at all yeah so yeah this definitely was a big l guys because there was

00:13:02.740 who knows what kind of potential dna uh evidence they they around with at that point

00:13:07.860 well when i first found her was it was just a rush of you know thank god i found her and that it was

00:13:14.980 a relief like a overwhelming relief that i found her and then i realized pretty quickly that she wasn't

00:13:20.900 alive you know and i get it you're the dad you know as soon as john put his daughter on the floor

00:13:29.140 patsy collapsed right on top of the body while crying and screaming at the top of her lungs 0.99

00:13:34.580 as friends and family began to console the grief-stricken parents police began to investigate

00:13:39.700 the crime scene as police headed to the basement to inspect the crime scene they noticed that the

00:13:46.500 basement was partitioned into several smaller rooms the old wine cellar where the body had been found

00:13:52.740 was also used for storage it was filled with various arts and crafts decorations and old paint cans

00:13:59.860 there was a room to the northwest in the basement where a storm window with a broken window pane was

00:14:04.340 discovered first thing i noticed obviously was the three sets of windows in the wall up there

00:14:11.700 and i noticed the broken window and the suitcase when i see a blue suitcase below a window the first

00:14:20.180 thing that i'm thinking was the intent eventually by the the perpetrator to put the body in a suitcase

00:14:26.980 and remove the body from the crime scene john claimed that he broke it last summer after

00:14:32.580 locking i have the the basement uh floor plan here oh you do if you want to show it okay um all right

00:14:39.140 i'll pull that up for you guys uh right now if you can send that to me okay cool himself out of the

00:14:44.180 house and because they lived in a safe neighborhood he never bothered to fix it the window is how police

00:14:50.340 believe the killer gained entry to the property a suitcase was positioned under the window in the

00:14:55.220 basement which was believed to have helped the intruder get back out of the window at the crime

00:15:00.580 scene near where the body was found investigators found a partial footprint and a palm print on the

00:15:06.180 door of the wine cellar in the basement both of which could not be identified

00:15:10.100 the autopsy report of john benet ramsey revealed many grim details about her death the child had

00:15:19.940 several minor injuries including an abrasion on her cheek and tiny hemorrhages around her eyelids

00:15:26.580 and uh guys i do have the crime scene photos here which they're they're graphic i'm not going to show

00:15:31.060 them obviously for obvious reasons uh because it's youtube and and honestly it pisses me off because i don't

00:15:36.260 think uh yeah i'm just not going to show pictures of a child um deceased i'm just not going to do it

00:15:43.940 uh but um if you guys want to look at them i'll put them there uh uh in in the link for you guys if 0.96

00:15:49.780 you want to look but uh yeah the the bastard that this deserves to ride in hell but uh you you guys can 0.87

00:15:55.300 uh check them out if you want but uh i just shouldn't even put them you know yeah yeah it's horrible 0.99

00:16:01.460 yeah it's it's really granted you don't see her face or anything you see like her hands or and stuff but

00:16:06.100 it's still um disturbing so uh anyway yeah back of her ankles also had minor abrasions 1.00

00:16:14.180 her skull was fractured as a result of blunt force trauma to her head

00:16:18.580 however the official cause of her death was ruled as asphyxia by strangulation

00:16:23.620 she'd been strangled twice with a nylon cord which had been tied to a makeshift garage which was made

00:16:29.540 from a broken piece of one of patsy's paint brushes no alcohol or medications were discovered in

00:16:35.380 her system however the coroner found traces of pineapple in john benet's stomach later her

00:16:41.860 parents claimed they did not remember giving her any pineapple the night before she died

00:16:46.180 but there was a bowl of pineapple in the kitchen which had her nine-year-old brother burke's fingerprints

00:16:50.900 her underwear as well as her leggings were consistent with urine stains her area was wiped clean and the

00:17:07.380 underwear did not contain any however it had dna from an unknown male even with all this evidence

00:17:15.700 investigators were not able to link anyone to the crime but later in the investigation all these

00:17:21.540 pieces of evidence separately gave birth to many theories although john benet was strangled by a nylon

00:17:29.380 cord the object that was used to hit her in the head was never identified despite a few objects haven't

00:17:35.220 been called up for debate a metal baseball bat was found by the wine cellar door later on in the search

00:17:41.540 but this could have been placed there by one of the staff on the property another object in question

00:17:47.380 is the flashlight found on the kitchen counter the head of which was consistent with the shape of the

00:17:52.260 injury found on john benet's head needless to say the boulder police department failed to properly

00:17:59.380 secure the crime scene and protect evidence now boulder police department

00:18:04.020 they not only let the family and friends roam around the house with some of them even cleaning up

00:18:13.300 but they also sent john to search the house instead of doing it themselves their negligence compromised

00:18:19.220 potential evidence which might have been left at the crime scene as well as on the victim's body

00:18:25.300 after their initial fumble the investigation took a different direction investigators started with a

00:18:31.220 theory of intruders but soon they zeroed in on the ramses due to some concerning evidence

00:18:40.340 apparently investigators discovered that not only the ransom note was written on one of patsy's

00:18:45.060 notepads using her pen but handwriting experts from cbi who had eliminated john ramsey as the notes author

00:18:52.420 cbi guys is the colorado bureau of investigation so that's similar to the tbi that i broke down for you

00:18:57.940 guys on the nashville shooting it's the colorado's version of the state police investigators you know

00:19:04.340 so they're cbi special agents similar to think of them as a state version for colorado of the fbi

00:19:10.340 couldn't do the same for patsy comparing the ransom note with patsy's handwriting sample

00:19:16.100 they could neither eliminate her as the writer nor say definitively that she was

00:19:21.620 investigators made another startling discovery regarding the note the ransom money was the exact

00:19:27.300 same amount as john ramsey's christmas bonus from that year police found it extremely

00:19:34.980 only a hundred and eighteen thousand dollars which is considerably low compared to the millions the

00:19:40.100 ramses had in their bank account but they also took time writing and practicing a ransom note inside the

00:19:45.700 house the extremely long and bizarre note also contained several movie quotes which perplexed

00:19:51.860 investigators we catch you talking to a stray dog she dies in the movie instead of it actually being a

00:19:57.860 dog a dog breed is actually mentioned if you alert bank authorities

00:20:06.740 don't try to grow a brain john a certain character who was an lapd police officer who was on a runaway bus

00:20:14.820 was talking to a mad bomber on his cell phone the movie was speed

00:20:22.500 there was another red flag investigators focus i guess the killer really enjoyed pop culture man

00:20:27.220 like what the hell their attention on john and patsy claimed that their eldest child burke who was

00:20:33.620 just nine years old during the incident was sleeping the entire time patsy and john were frantically

00:20:38.660 looking for their daughter and was only awoken by his father after they called the police

00:20:43.940 yet the 911 dispatcher claimed that she heard the voice of a third person when patsy thought she hung

00:20:49.220 up the call but was still on the line some people assume that the voice was burke's so i remained on

00:20:56.820 the phone trying to hear what was being said sounded like there were two voices in the room maybe three

00:21:04.660 different ones the other anomaly in their story was that both john and patsy were adamant that john

00:21:12.820 benet fell asleep in the car and they carried her to bed without her ever waking so the discovery of

00:21:18.660 pineapple in john benet's stomach and a pineapple filled bowl with burke's fingerprints on it fueled

00:21:23.700 the suspicion that john benet's family were not telling the complete truth one investigator theorized

00:21:29.700 that burke accidentally hit his sister in the head with the nearby flashlight after a fight ensued 1.00

00:21:34.340 between them regarding the pineapple in the fear of losing two of their children john and patsy staged

00:21:40.180 the crime scene with a ransom note to make it look like an intruder was responsible for the murder

00:21:45.460 in an attempt to find clues police even interviewed burke separate from his parents on multiple occasions

00:21:51.460 but could not reach any conclusion one other theory was that it was patsy who killed her own

00:21:57.620 daughter after john benet approached her mother with a bedwetting incident that christmas night

00:22:03.060 apparently i think that's kind of crazy the six-year-old was a regular bedwetter and even

00:22:07.860 often wore diapers despite her age many suspected that patsy who allegedly had some psychological issues 0.94

00:22:14.820 at the time attacked john benet in a fit of rage eventually killing her some believe that she along

00:22:21.860 with john covered the crime to look like a kidnapping and later deliberately compromised

00:22:27.300 evidence to divert the investigation the news of the horrific death of the six-year-old beauty

00:22:33.940 queen who was the daughter of a millionaire broke like wildfire john benet ramsey the little girl in

00:22:39.700 colorado was murdered beauty queen john benet john benet's murder has frightened residents of boulder

00:22:46.580 local national and even international media followed the murder of john benet ramsey closely

00:22:52.180 picture and i'll tell you guys this as someone you know who's her age i remember vividly when i was a

00:22:58.820 kid right around nine ten years old years after she had died they were still talking about this on the

00:23:04.740 news they were still interviewing the parents this was huge back in the day years of the little girl

00:23:10.020 wearing full makeup this is 20 years ago now at this point over 20 years ago glittery outfits were

00:23:14.980 displayed on the covers of every tabloid magazine as america continued to speculate if the ramseys caused 0.94

00:23:21.620 the death of their own child their lawyer criticized the media for character assassination against his

00:23:26.900 clients he also accused boulder police of leaking false and distorted information to the media

00:23:32.740 to apply pressure and elicit a confession from john and patsy

00:23:36.260 just a day after john benet's burial in saint francis episcopal cemetery in marietta georgia john and

00:23:48.580 patsy gave their first public appearance on january 1st 1996 the ramsey parents pleaded on cnn

00:23:55.860 for help finding their daughter's murderer in their first public comment on the murder patsy says that

00:24:01.860 there's a killer on the loose there is a killer on the loose i don't know who it is i don't know if

00:24:10.580 it's a he or a she but if i were a resident of boulder i will tell my friends to keep

00:24:21.940 keep your babies close to you many people including some in law enforcement found the

00:24:33.460 interview and their body language suspicious but no solid proof ever emerged in support of the theory

00:24:40.180 this interview forged a path for dozens of other interviews from the ramsey family over the years

00:24:45.540 but none led to any significant clues that could unravel the mystery

00:24:49.540 and they were being interviewed guys into the early 2000s i vividly remember uh back in like

00:24:56.740 that like it was either late 99 or 2000 or 2001 they were still talking to these parents about

00:25:04.180 this case man and like i had saw it on like dateline or one of these mainstream television i know i'm

00:25:09.060 just showing my age right now because tv used to be the thing back then guys it wasn't like netflix and

00:25:13.540 streaming like you guys see nowadays like if you wanted the news you had to turn on the tv to be able to

00:25:17.780 do it or read the newspaper so yeah they were interviewing them into the late 90s early 2000s

00:25:23.540 man i remember about this that's crazy i don't understand how can they bear to be interviewed

00:25:28.580 that many times yeah it is a little crazy right it is i mean if if you have a missing child you

00:25:34.180 do have a missing child that child like why will you be reminded like what will you want to be reminded

00:25:39.940 of i mean maybe maybe because they want to get justice right i could see that perspective as well but

00:25:44.740 at the same time yeah you're opening a wound every time you go and do that interview exactly but also

00:25:48.740 like it's repeating the same story as well yeah like well what could they say that could be different

00:25:53.460 like if they hadn't said it like you know their interviews true i understand true true very very

00:26:00.100 true but hey man anything for clout right it was months before investigators were able to obtain the

00:26:06.340 clothing the ramses had worn the night their daughter was killed that was only the only way to get clout

00:26:10.420 back then bro if you weren't on tv you are nobody bro like there's no social media none of that there

00:26:14.660 ain't there ain't no uh you're not going to build a platform unless you get on tv back then well the

00:26:19.460 only reason i would think is money you know like if they get paid yeah but they have money so that's

00:26:24.020 that which is also strange to me so i don't know yeah and even longer before they could get access to

00:26:31.060 the parents phone records and credit card bills while there had already been a dna test done by the

00:26:36.500 colorado bureau of investigation a secondary one was done by maryland's cellmark laboratories

00:26:42.500 and john bonnet's parents remained under the umbrella of suspicion needless to say the ramsey

00:26:48.340 family was extremely upset with the investigation they felt that both boulder police and the media

00:26:54.260 were targeting them deliberately without any hard evidence just months after the murder once these

00:27:02.740 allegations came to light the ramsey stopped cooperating and stopped giving interviews to

00:27:07.540 police despite previously cooperating with the investigation and even submitting their dna samples

00:27:13.140 willingly the ramsey's attorneys wanted all the questions they said they wouldn't go in for an

00:27:17.780 interview with the police because they didn't know what the police were going to ask all further

00:27:23.060 interactions with investigators were set about by their lawyer whom they hired soon after the murder

00:27:28.020 following a friend's advice in february of 1997 district attorney alex hunter announced that they

00:27:36.260 had formed an expert prosecution task force vowing to bring john bonnet's killer to justice the team

00:27:42.980 included forensic expert henry lee and dna specialist barry sheck who were both henry lee is very famous he has

00:27:49.380 a whole part of university new haven named after him i think it's called the henry lee school of forensic

00:27:55.540 science both involved with oj simpson's defense team in march of the same year just three months after

00:28:01.780 the killing the da asked detective lou smith who had long time expertise involving tricky homicides to

00:28:08.580 join the investigation he initially explored the boulder police department's theory of john bonnet's

00:28:13.780 mother patsy ramsey being the killer and writing the ransom note she said she had found in her home

00:28:20.260 however 18 months after joining the investigation detective smith resigned accusing the boulder

00:28:25.860 police of unfairly targeting the ramses as suspects despite substantial evidence to the contrary

00:28:31.860 some people call it tunnel vision perhaps that's the case they have just stopped at the ramses

00:28:38.580 plain and simple they've gone to the ramses and they've stopped in his resignation letter dated

00:28:44.020 september 20th 1998 he stated that he believed the ramses did not do it he further explained that there

00:28:51.140 was credible evidence of an intruder and a lack of evidence that the parents were involved

00:29:00.180 after leaving the investigation smith independently worked on the case for years on his own dime

00:29:06.660 unfortunately he passed away before seeing the case resolved

00:29:10.260 on october 13th 1999 boulder district attorney alex hunter announced that a grand jury had finished

00:29:18.500 its investigation and he was not interested in filing charges against the ramses because of a lack of

00:29:24.100 evidence the ramses released a statement following this announcement saying that it was no satisfaction

00:29:30.820 since a child killer remained free and undetected what was unknown at the time but was reported by cnn

00:29:38.180 14 years later was that in 1999 the grand jury had indeed voted to indict both john and patsy ramsay

00:29:47.060 on charges of child abuse resulting in death and being accessories to a crime according to unsealed

00:29:56.180 court documents both parents were thought to have hindered the original investigation in multiple

00:30:01.140 different ways but hunter refused to file the charges so that's clear guys so it wasn't that they were the

00:30:07.140 killers it was that they impeded the investigation to the point that it was significantly damaged so

00:30:11.860 they couldn't catch the actual killers that's a very important distinction even though the grand

00:30:16.740 jury voted for them believing he did not have enough to get a conviction we do not have sufficient

00:30:23.140 that's true guys remember just because you have enough to indict does not mean that you have enough

00:30:27.220 to win a trial and keep in mind he's not stupid okay he knows that the ramses got what

00:30:32.100 and when they got money what does that mean they can get a good defense team

00:30:37.380 and that means that they're going to fight this thing tooth and nail and what's more than likely

00:30:41.540 going to happen it's going to be a big easy that was easy victory for the ramses and they don't want

00:30:46.180 to lose okay so any defense attorney with half a brain would have been able to fight off

00:30:53.220 these prosecutors and get the ramses off so they looked at it like just because we have enough to

00:30:58.500 indict does not mean that we have enough to convict them beyond a reasonable doubt keep in mind guys

00:31:03.780 for all my uh international viewers out there and guys that aren't too well versed in the law

00:31:07.860 to indict someone all you need is probable cause to convict someone you need beyond a reasonable doubt

00:31:13.540 which is substantially more than just probable cause evidence to warrant the filing of charges against

00:31:21.220 anyone who has been investigated at this time although they were never officially charged many

00:31:28.660 people including many in the media still held them responsible for john benet's death despite their

00:31:34.420 continuous claims of innocence the ramsay family continued giving interviews at regular intervals

00:31:40.420 and even released a book entitled death of innocence in 2000 naming three potential suspects none of whom

00:31:47.460 would ever be held i think i saw an episode of them promote uh promoting this book

00:31:51.220 book by the way guys um in the early 2000s because they did more interviews to promote this book

00:31:57.860 okay this is this is just dumb now yeah weird huh why why would you accountable for when would you get 0.62

00:32:02.820 a book man why would you write a book about this like this is just like i don't know well you know i 0.98

00:32:06.900 mean if you didn't do it i guess like it would be annoying to be accused of killing your own child

00:32:11.380 but you're getting money out of it that's true the murder

00:32:15.620 it's weird everything they're doing is weird but that does not necessarily mean they're guilty but

00:32:22.260 we'll see here in 2006 the ramsay family faced another tragic loss after a long battle with ovarian

00:32:30.900 cancer patsy ramsay took her last breath on june 24th 2006 at the age of 49 as years passed the

00:32:39.620 ramsey family continued to protest their innocence as they continued to demand justice for john benet

00:32:45.540 on july 9 2008 nearly 12 years after the murder in a press conference boulder district attorney mary

00:32:52.660 lacy publicly exonerated and cleared the entire ramsey family of responsibility for the death of john

00:32:58.900 benet ramsey lacy cited new methods of dna analysis suggesting that the ramsey family did not have anything

00:33:05.860 to do with their daughter's killing you know bam cleared you know a letter oh look the da actually

00:33:13.780 sent them a letter mr john ramsey dear mr ramsey as you're aware since december 2002 the boulder

00:33:19.460 district attorney's office has been the agency responsible for the investigation of the homicide

00:33:22.340 of your daughter john benet i understand that the fact i understand the fact that we have not been able

00:33:27.220 to identify the person who killed her is a great disappointment that is a continuing hardship for you

00:33:31.940 and your family however significant new evidence has recently been discovered through the application

00:33:36.980 of relatively new uh she also apologized to the family it's okay of dna analysis this new scientific

00:33:43.060 evidence are contributing in any way to the public perception that they convinces us that it is 0.97

00:33:47.780 appropriate given might have been involved in this crime circumstances of this case god damn it 0.67

00:33:53.300 hold on guys i'm gonna get it contributing in any way to the public perception that they might have been

00:33:58.340 involved in this crime okay circumstances of this case to state that we do not and that probably ends

00:34:04.260 up uh want to pursue charges and do not think you're culpable blah blah in august 2009 boulder police

00:34:11.460 announced that they were reactivating the case with the help of a newly created 20-person advisory task

00:34:17.060 force to further work on john benet's murder since then the case has remained open though no new suspects

00:34:24.420 have been named publicly investigators revealed in a statement that they had tested over 1500 pieces of

00:34:30.900 evidence analyzed nearly a thousand dna samples interviewed more than a thousand individuals

00:34:37.140 and investigated over 21 000 tips through 19 states but always came up empty-handed

00:34:45.300 in late 2016 just months before the 20th anniversary of john benet's murder cbs released a special on this

00:34:52.660 crime where team of investigators suggested a theory that involved john and patsy ramsey creating a fake

00:34:59.140 crime scene to cover up burke ramsey's involvement in accidentally killing his younger sister after its

00:35:05.300 release burke filed a 750 million dollar oh yeah you know that's coming cbs the producers of the

00:35:13.940 documentary as well as the experts who were seen in the documentary burke also separately sued a forensic

00:35:20.420 pathologist who gave an interview promoting the documentary breaking a 20-year silence in september

00:35:26.740 of 2016 the nearly 30-year-old burke ramsey appeared on the dr phil show and spoke publicly about the

00:35:33.380 murder for the first time while addressing some of the conspiracy theories surrounding his involvement

00:35:38.900 in the murder he denied killing his sister several times he also complained about the media's perception

00:35:45.220 yeah uh guys if you guys want a little bit of a laugh go watch that interview he was

00:35:49.780 really weird i ain't gonna lie very strange maybe i'll pull it up for you guys if they don't hit me

00:35:53.380 with the copyright option of the case and said it had led him to seek a more private life as an adult

00:35:59.620 many people criticized this interview addressing burke's uncomfortable grinning throughout the entirety of

00:36:04.740 the episode yes it was weird as hell you know what let's go you know what it is what it is if we're

00:36:09.860 getting hit with the copyright it is with the tears and you guys can see here that the house is on sale

00:36:14.420 right now for nearly seven million dollars holy out there in boulder colorado okay so if you guys want

00:36:22.420 to get chapped lips move out there to boulder um let's see here so you go youtube right

00:36:30.660 burke ramsey got to my boy andrew tate free him and tristan i was talking with them today they're

00:36:36.340 doing well guys uh burke ramsey interview dr phil comes right up right here it is

00:36:47.780 it's the season premiere of speak to them why 14 years he ran some note reported

00:36:54.660 is thankful for her being there he continued did you know she it gets worse to be able to realize

00:37:04.260 no go back

00:37:07.620 you had gone to

00:37:12.260 sorry guys i don't think this is it no it's not that one this is the one that it was

00:37:16.260 not like this one yeah it's that one

00:37:17.860 i don't know like had i ever been to a funeral before period i'm not sure who was with you when

00:37:24.020 you were standing and viewing her me and my mom my dad how were they behaving

00:37:30.900 you can tell my dad loved my sister a lot and they're both crying well let me see if i can get

00:37:37.540 any better quality for you guys this is probably the murder of six here we go okay let's fast forward a

00:37:42.980 little bit where is he he didn't have to get up to check because he knew exactly what had happened

00:37:50.820 i mean i didn't know if there's some bad guy downstairs yeah that is a weird grin actually

00:37:55.300 what the hell then you look here it's weird to think that at least no one in the world knows exactly

00:37:59.940 what happened uh the fact that the man says it will remain unsolved i've seen many detectives solve

00:38:06.500 uh uh mystery deaths when they put their heart and i hope john bonnet gets her justice uh she deserves

00:38:12.980 let's see here yeah it's just people like showing okay the brother's perpetual smile is not only

00:38:23.620 inappropriate it's absolutely horrifying yeah it is a little weird bro yeah i mean look look at that

00:38:29.940 dad was chasing off with a gun everyone looks at the interview of burke and thinks why is this young

00:38:36.980 man smiling yeah i don't see a smile as much as i see an uncomfortable facial expression but i don't 0.96

00:38:46.100 that's true some people are weird as fuck and just smile when when they're getting interviewed but 0.94

00:38:50.100 i mean it was weird as hell you know i mean it definitely oh here we go dr phil are you aware of 0.94

00:38:57.140 these different theories that are out there i know they were camps i guess and these are people that post

00:39:03.940 online the shorthand is rdi ramsey did it idi intruder did it or bdi burke did it do you know the theories

00:39:16.900 that they set forth in saying that your mom killed john bonnet i don't know the details but i know the

00:39:25.780 ransom note they think the handwriting match have you seen it have you read it

00:39:30.100 i don't think i've read the whole thing i've definitely seen pictures of it though

00:39:36.180 did the handwriting look familiar to you at all had you seen it ever before no is that the real

00:39:42.980 like the listen no of course that's probably a copy carefully is very distinct and i've never really

00:39:48.020 seen that the real one's going to be an evidence vault at the boulder police department

00:39:52.260 i don't know i've never really looked at it closely because i'll see it and kind of get

00:39:56.420 taken aback and it's not something i really want to look at like a lot you know right does that look

00:40:05.860 like her handwriting honestly looking at that she would always bug me about having good handwriting and 0.54

00:40:13.220 she would like make me rewrite stuff to try to get yeah he's just he's awkward oh and they

00:40:19.460 turned the comments off of course this is the actual dr phil channel that was probably because

00:40:22.980 they were roasting him for being weird so despite all the concerning factors and allegations against

00:40:30.020 the ramsays they were not the only suspects in john bonnet's murder as twisted as this case is

00:40:37.220 there was in fact a pool of suspects who were not in the ramsay family over the years a number of

00:40:43.700 people were under the light of suspicion for the little girl's tragic demise unfortunately every effort

00:40:50.020 from the investigation to look into them was in vain one of those suspects was gary oliva a then 32

00:40:57.300 year old known sex offender in boulder colorado given the fact that there was unknown male dna on

00:41:03.620 john bonnet's underwear and she was thought to have been sexually molested gary was looked into as a

00:41:08.980 suspect more concerningly the convicted pedophile had been living in the area on and off when police

00:41:15.460 allegedly found a magazine cut out with john bonnet's picture in his backpack after he was apprehended

00:41:20.740 on drug charges in 2000. allegedly not long after this murder he also confessed to one of his friends

00:41:27.540 about hurting a little girl this is another thing get the rocks this is another reason why a little 0.50

00:41:34.820 girl shouldn't be on pageants yeah pageants yeah i agree i get this terrifying phone call yeah he's

00:41:40.500 screaming i heard a little girl it was shock it was pure shock he was soon released from prison but the

00:41:48.580 suspicions remained however in later years he was cleared as a suspect based on dna testing another

00:41:56.260 potential suspect was an electrician named michael helgoth who worked in a nearby auto salvage yard

00:42:02.020 around the time of the murder allegedly michael had been tied to an alleged property dispute involving the

00:42:08.100 ramsays the investigating officers speculated whether or not he was involved in the despicable

00:42:14.020 act of john bonnet's murder out of revenge against her parents allegedly helgoth made multiple

00:42:20.500 concerning statements to one of his colleagues shortly before john bonnet's murder such as he

00:42:25.700 couldn't wait until christmas as he and a partner were about to make 50 to 60 thousand dollars each

00:42:32.340 he also made a comment about what it would feel like to crack a human skull oddly enough he committed

00:42:38.740 suicide just two days after 1997 press conference announcing that the boulder da was zeroing in

00:42:45.140 on a new suspect however helgoth has since been cleared by dna in 2006 investigators seemingly got a

00:42:53.540 breakthrough in the case out of the blue when a former school teacher john mark carr confessed to john

00:42:59.220 bonnet's death in graphic detail saying that it was an accident carr was arrested in thailand where

00:43:05.780 he'd been living after facing child pornography charges in the u.s john mark carr 41 years old

00:43:14.420 was arrested for the murder of john bonnet ramsay yesterday morning at approximately 6 a.m in bangkok thailand

00:43:23.700 he was immediately flown to boulder for questioning but his testimony was not consistent with the details of the

00:43:29.140 crime he claimed that he drugged john bonnet before her murder but there were no traces of drugs found in the

00:43:35.140 victim's system during the autopsy in his confession he'd mostly provided only basic facts that were publicly known

00:43:42.740 and failed to provide any additional convincing details you and guys this is actually more surprising

00:43:49.620 than you think people making false confessions like this was ultimately cleared after his dna failed to match the

00:43:55.140 profile of the profile of an unknown male found on the victim and written off as a pedophile who was

00:44:00.180 after notoriety and fame hey do anything for clout man no i see however his confession and arrest made

00:44:06.980 headlines in the international media eventually turning into a media fiasco bill mc reynolds a retired

00:44:14.020 professor and a family friend also found himself on the police radar regarding the death of john bonnet

00:44:19.700 mc reynolds had dressed up as santa claus the week before john bonnet's murder to entertain the

00:44:25.300 neighborhood children at one of patsy's famous christmas gatherings and allegedly gave john bonnet

00:44:30.740 a card promising her a special gift after christmas allegedly mc reynolds was rumored to have paid a

00:44:38.180 little too much attention to john bonnet going so far as to arrange a secret visit from santa claus on christmas

00:44:44.580 eve his strange behavior made him a questionable man in the eyes of authorities as well as the ramsey

00:44:50.500 family to add fuel to the fire there were two more coincidences that emerged upon digging into mc

00:44:56.740 reynolds past his own daughter was abducted along with one of her female friends and was forced to

00:45:02.100 witness the sexual assault of her friend exactly 22 years to the day before john bonnet's murder

00:45:08.580 additionally mc reynolds wife wrote a play about a young girl being sexually assaulted and murdered in a

00:45:13.940 basement a story that was eerily similar to john bonnet's however the story was based on the true

00:45:20.900 story of sylvia likens despite this particular suspect generating buzz in the media it failed to

00:45:27.380 amount to anything substantial after mc reynolds death in 2002 however authorities deemed him highly

00:45:34.100 unlikely to have been responsible for the crime according to one theory a 68 year old colorado woman 1.00

00:45:40.740 bernice johnson an inmate at the denver women's correctional facility claimed that her ex-partner

00:45:46.660 and her daughter's father todd fuss had some role to play in the john bonnet ramsey case given that

00:45:53.140 their child was possibly in some of the same pageants as john bonnet she said that todd might have been at

00:45:59.220 the same location and event as john bonnet on a few occasions and developed a sick fantasy about her in his

00:46:04.740 mind she also made allegations that he'd previously been caught watching young girls while this claim

00:46:11.540 itself led to a whole new theory todd was later cleared after his dna did not match the crime scene

00:46:16.980 dna the last suspect in this list is linda hoffman pew who voiced her suspicions about patsy for

00:46:24.020 accidentally killing john bonnet while linda worked as a housekeeper her husband mervyn pew worked as a

00:46:30.420 handyman for the ramsey family suspicion first fell on linda when patsy claimed to investigators 1.00

00:46:36.500 that linda and mervyn were struggling for money at the time and asked for a loan of several thousand

00:46:41.540 dollars from the ramsey family which was rejected investigators speculated that linda who was known 0.98

00:46:47.860 to carry a key to the home could have led a trusting john bonnet down into the basement on christmas night

00:46:53.700 in an attempt to trick her employers into leaving money for her ransom but somehow ended up accidentally

00:46:59.540 killing her it was also possible that she could have learned about john ramsey's christmas bonus

00:47:04.900 and chosen that as her demand additionally she did not even have a solid alibi for the night of the

00:47:10.820 murder reportedly police took her fingerprints and several strands of her hair but never officially 1.00

00:47:16.900 charged her as a suspect in john bonnet slaying just a few months ago john ramsey came out with his

00:47:24.660 take on the investigation and needless to say he was not very pleased with it in fact john ramsey slammed

00:47:32.180 the investigators for not doing their job properly as he believed that there was a huge connection

00:47:37.220 between his daughter's murder and a frightening attack carried out just nine months later on another

00:47:42.260 young girl who went to the same dance school as john bonnet the perpetrator however was never found just

00:47:49.060 like in the case of our slain beauty queen yep crazy stuff riddled with conflicting theories false

00:47:57.940 confessions and a pool of suspects the 26 year old mystery of who killed america's tiny pageant queen

00:48:04.260 has long become a white whale for conspiracy theorists and armchair detectives alike just last year john

00:48:11.220 ramsey started a campaign for the case to be sent to be handled by another agency and for dna samples to

00:48:17.140 be sent to be sent to a private lab to be retested with the latest dna technology as of now the killer

00:48:23.380 has still not been found and no official suspects have been publicly named however supporters investigators

00:48:30.420 and john bonnet's existing family still hold out hope that one day this tragic murder will be solved

00:48:37.300 the case which is considered one of the most notorious unsolved murders in america continues to baffle people

00:48:47.380 crazy crazy crazy crazy man crazy stuff uh very sad um so yeah guys that is the case of john bonnet

00:48:55.220 ramsey as you guys could see many winding turns um i'm glad that the parents were exonerated because

00:49:00.340 that's got to be terrible for you to be parents and be accused of being the killers and i remember as a

00:49:04.180 kid that they they were the prime suspects man in the late 90s early 2000s and obviously with the dna

00:49:09.380 evidence they're able to exonerate them um angie what are your final thoughts

00:49:12.500 um you know what this case just has too many crazy and curious facts you know uh do you know the case

00:49:21.940 of natalie holloway holloway no i never heard of it okay so that's another highly requested as well

00:49:27.940 so apparently um she that was a girl that got missing in naruba in 2005 i think and her mother uh started

00:49:37.460 dating uh john bonnet ramsey because they have like similarities and like in common interests

00:49:46.660 something like that i don't know which is crazy to me that's crazy just like two parents that have

00:49:51.380 missing kids just just up but yeah uh people wanted to know what do you think about the case and who do

00:49:58.740 you think did killed john bonnet i personally i have no clue like there's too many suspects but the

00:50:05.860 problem is that the dna doesn't match so it's like that it is what it is you know but i will think i

00:50:12.740 will argue that the dna doesn't match because the crime scene was contaminated contaminated so true but

00:50:20.020 they did have they did have an unknown male's dna on the victim yeah but it could be anyone

00:50:25.940 well if it was anyone then they could have they could have i mean they could have easily because

00:50:31.460 here's the thing you gotta remember that they didn't have dna evidence like that back when she

00:50:34.740 was killed right you know what i mean like it kind of was around but they didn't really like have it

00:50:39.860 like that so oh no i don't think the family did it i don't know you don't think the family did i don't

00:50:45.860 think so what do you think you think the family did it i don't know i just find weird that why would

00:50:52.100 they have to make a book and give away so many interviews it's just well you got well here's the

00:50:57.700 thing it they got a lot of heat back in the day yeah like it was bad i remember as a kid watching

00:51:03.300 like them on on the news everyone saying that they were the killers i know yeah i know i i mean i can

00:51:10.180 understand that but it's still like it's stupid to make a book for it but yeah but i've seen so many

00:51:15.060 cases like this and nobody does that you know write the book well unless you're oj simpson and 0.84

00:51:19.940 then you make it i did it if i did it yeah well i don't know it's just crazy everything is crazy

00:51:27.540 but uh anyway guys hope you guys enjoyed that comment below who you think the killer was
