00:15:19.260 police department officers with federal crimes related to ms taylor's death those alleged crimes

00:15:25.740 include civil rights offenses unlawful conspiracies unconstitutional use of force and obstruction

00:15:32.860 offenses the four defendants were charged through two separate indictments and one information

00:15:40.780 i'm going to begin today by discussing okay and we're going to talk about that guys uh the

00:15:44.540 indictments versus information okay um and i'll give you guys the differences between an information

00:16:17.260 in early 2020 that unit was investigating suspected drug trafficking in the west end of louisville

00:16:24.700 on march 12 2020 officers from that unit sought five search warrants they claimed were related to

00:16:31.420 the suspected drug trafficking four of those warrants targeted properties in the west end where that

00:16:37.420 activity was allegedly occurring now those were the trap houses that i told you guys about before

00:16:42.780 okay those and and it wasn't a let like they had overwhelming evidence guys when we read through

00:16:48.220 that case from how y'all saw it they had they had been um observing drug traffic activities they had done

00:16:54.620 seizures they knew these houses were involved in um firearms and uh drugs and they actually seized the

00:17:02.940 a fifth search warrant was for brianna taylor's home which was approximately 10 miles away from the

00:17:11.020 west end the federal charges announced today allege that members of the place-based investigations unit

00:17:19.020 falsified the affidavit aka pbi as you guys see it in the documents the pbi it was a uh basically like

00:17:25.900 think of it as like a criminal investigation team set up purposely for high-risk areas in louisville

00:17:33.020 used to obtain the search warrant of miss taylor's home that this act violated federal civil rights laws

00:17:40.540 and that those violations resulted in miss taylor's death specifically we allege that

00:17:47.100 miss taylor's fourth amendment rights were violated when defendants joshua james

00:17:51.660 kyle meaney and kelly goodlett sought a warrant to search miss taylor's home knowing

00:17:56.940 that the officers lacked probable cause for the search now i want to make this extremely clear

00:19:36.940 that the target of the alleged drug trafficking operation had received packages at ms taylor's

00:19:42.780 address in fact defendants james and goodlat knew that was not true we further alleged that defendants

00:19:51.900 james and meanie knew the search warrant would be carried out by armed lmpd officers and that

00:19:57.980 conducting that search could create a dangerous situation for anyone who happened to be in ms taylor's

00:20:03.820 home as outlined in the charging documents the officers who ultimately carried out the search

00:20:11.020 at ms taylor's department were not involved in the drafting of the warrant and were unaware

00:20:16.620 of the false and misleading statements it contained when those officers executed the search warrant
