00:00:16.120 sure you're preparing yourself for the battle that comes after COVID-19 when we got to fight

00:00:22.480 for all of our rights all over again. That is Glenn Beck's Arguing with Socialists available

00:00:28.500 now in bookstores. You can also get signed copies, by the way, at glennbeckbooksigning.com

00:00:34.740 if you would like to do that. Coming up on the program today, we talk about hydroxychloroquine

00:00:40.880 a little bit. Why does the media seem to be rooting for its failure so they can prove Donald

00:00:46.660 Trump wrong? Former Energy Secretary and Governor of Texas, Rick Perry joins us to talk about

00:00:53.120 the massive effects going on right now with the energy business and the kind of economic

00:01:01.060 disaster we're in the middle of right now. We have an amazing edit job by CNN on a Donald

00:01:08.100 Trump clip, which of course you probably expect, but also will not believe. And we also talk

00:01:15.760 about the idea that the schools might reopen in the fall. Fun, fun, fun. We'll get to that

00:01:26.280 all on today's podcast. You can also subscribe and rate and review. Make sure to click five

00:01:31.900 stars because that helps other people get the program. And sign up, subscribe at Sue Does America

00:01:37.580 as well, my show, which airs every night on Blaze TV. And you get the podcast for free here

00:01:43.380 as well. And on YouTube. You're listening to the best of the Glenn Beck program.

00:01:56.960 All right. Total confirmed cases of COVID-19, 1,447,516. That is up almost 100,000 from yesterday.

00:02:17.160 Total confirmed deaths worldwide, 83,000 up from 75,000 yesterday. Total confirmed recovered worldwide,

00:02:24.920 308,000. That's a nice number. It's up almost 16,000 from yesterday. We have 400,549 confirmed

00:02:37.020 cases. And now in America, 12,858 deaths. That is up the overall number, almost 50,000 from yesterday

00:02:47.820 and 2000 in deaths yesterday. But here's the good news. The U.S. is 17th in the death rate per 1 million

00:02:57.920 people, 39 deaths per million. By comparison, Spain has 311 deaths per million. Italy has 283 per million.

00:03:07.920 France, 158. And Sweden, everybody says, Sweden's really doing it right. Are they?

00:03:14.260 Because we have 39 deaths per 1 million. Sweden has 59 deaths per 1 million. We're doing pretty well, 0.94

00:03:23.220 America. New York City is the deadliest. It's the deadliest day so far. Yesterday, 731 COVID-19 deaths

00:03:30.640 on Tuesday. This brings the New York State death toll to 5,489. New York City accounting for over 4,000

00:03:40.200 of that total. At this point, New York accounts for nearly half of all the total deaths in New York.

00:03:47.000 Statewide, they have about 140,000 confirmed cases. But they say now the actual death toll may be higher

00:03:54.020 in New York, as many people have died at home and are not yet tested or classified as COVID-19.

00:04:01.340 As many as 280 people are dying per day in their own homes or their apartments in New York City,

00:04:08.220 and most are presumed to be victims of the virus. According to the New York City Fire Department,

00:04:15.020 over the past two weeks, more than 2,192 people have died in their own homes,

00:04:19.720 and 75% of those people, they presume, are from COVID-19. One city councilman tweeted that

00:04:27.740 New York City coroner's office has designated a city park for use as a temporary burial site

00:04:34.680 for COVID-19 deaths. 20% of the New York City Police Department is calling in sick.

00:04:41.520 It's not a surprise if you've been listening to me. I've been telling you that New York is not the

00:04:47.120 place to be in case of a real trouble, a pandemic as it turns out to be. A lot of these cops are

00:04:54.600 underpaid and they don't live in the borough they serve. They're going to stay at home if things get

00:05:00.980 really tough. And quite honestly, part of me, I don't blame them. New York City Police Department

00:05:07.000 has lost its 12th member to a suspected case of coronavirus this week. Monday, 6,974 uniformed

00:05:15.680 officers of the NYPD were out sick. That was accounting for 19.3% of the department's uniformed workforce.

00:05:24.600 Another 993 officers have presumed cases and are awaiting test results. France temporarily

00:05:32.060 surpasses the U.S. with the deadliest national daily total, 1,419 dead yesterday. Now even

00:05:42.660 Antarctica is not safe from COVID-19. Leave it to dopes. This is the only place on earth that you 1.00

00:05:51.080 didn't have to worry about it. A cruise ship from Australia was set to sail to Antarctica.

00:05:57.980 They just wanted to go look at the penguins, the seals and the whales.

00:06:04.780 Now over 60% of the passengers on board have tested positive for COVID-19 and another 20% have

00:06:10.960 suspected cases. The ship is moored off of Uruguay, which is beautiful. I hear this time of year.

00:06:17.240 COVID-19 killing more Britons than the Blitz. The UK had 786 known COVID-19 deaths yesterday,

00:06:28.460 including a 23-year-old with no underlying health conditions. By comparison, the worst day of the

00:06:35.560 Blitz of London bombings by Germany in World War II killed 131 people. Department of Health estimates

00:06:43.720 that the actual total of COVID-19 deaths is actually likely much higher. Can I ask you

00:06:50.440 something, Stu? Which is more freaky to you, being bombed or COVID-19?

00:06:58.620 As far as likelihood, COVID-19 would be more likely. I don't think I'm going to...

00:07:03.140 I know, but which would be more freaky? I mean, I would, you know, hearing the planes fly over you

00:07:07.620 every night, not knowing if you were going to be bombed or not, would be really freaky. But

00:07:12.680 there is really no difference. I mean, you're going out. It's a silent killer. You don't hear

00:07:19.500 the engines. I mean, I guess you stay in your house and you're safe, where that wasn't true in

00:07:27.520 the Blitz. Yeah, I guess. Yeah. I mean, I think too, you know, look, the idea of just planes flying

00:07:34.340 over your head and explosions all around you and the businesses you go to certainly aren't opening

00:07:39.300 in 30 days because they're, you know, they're rubble. I still think that would be much more

00:07:45.300 terrifying. But I mean, like, look, as you discussed this in Arguing with Socialists,

00:07:49.860 in that socialism is the number two cause of death over the past hundred years. Number one is

00:07:55.180 infectious disease, right? Like, it's not as dramatic as bombs and guns and things like that,

00:08:03.340 but it does kill more people and it does all the time. This is, you know, we, we have to deal with

00:08:09.920 that. It's just a totally different way, right? It's a totally different way of dying. You never

00:08:14.400 know when it's coming. You know, you don't have that anticipatory struggle. I don't think, I mean,

00:08:20.880 I don't go out to like, you're not going to, I don't know. You're going to be sitting around

00:08:23.740 thinking like, I'm like, oh my gosh, am I breathing in COVID air right now? Am I, am I, is that

00:08:27.420 happening? That's not the way we think about this, right? President Trump signaled yesterday,

00:08:33.740 he may put a quote, very powerful hold on the funding to the World Health Organization as he

00:08:38.560 lashed out the United Nations specialized agency accused of being very China centric.

00:08:43.880 He is absolutely right. We shouldn't be paying. I don't think we should be paying the UN,

00:08:48.400 but we certainly shouldn't be paying the World Health Organization. They not only drop the ball,

00:08:52.520 they are wildly corrupt as they do the bidding of the Chinese Communist Party. We have more on that 0.99

00:08:59.180 tonight on our special at 9pm. You can find it at blazetv.com slash Glenn 9pm tonight, our Wednesday

00:09:07.400 night special. You can also find it at YouTube, but only during the broadcast. This one, I'd like

00:09:12.220 them to hold on in the archives so other people can see it because I'm asking the questions that

00:09:16.780 media won't ask. They won't ask because they're all in bed with China. We don't have any 0.96

00:09:22.180 Chinese connections. Oh, we've been banned in China. Oops. Oh, well, we're not Comcast that is

00:09:29.320 opening up a new Universal Park next month. So we don't have any restrictions asking the questions

00:09:34.980 about China and showing you video of was this made in a lab? Is this a bioweapon? There's some new 0.64

00:09:44.640 evidence out that shows that a lab was involved. It appears as though this is not man made. But that

00:09:54.360 bioweapons lab played a role. And we will show you the video will give you the evidence. And we'll ask

00:10:02.060 the questions the media should be asking tonight at nine o'clock gun sales are up over 200% in some

00:10:09.980 states up 200%. More oriented home defense guns like pump action shotguns and cheaper handguns are

00:10:20.200 what's selling right now. They say that most of the people who are buying guns have never bought a gun

00:10:27.980 before. They may be ahead of the curve. I think you're going to see gun sales go through the roof

00:10:36.620 as we get further into this. I'll tell you why. As, as this progresses, we're working on some things

00:10:45.120 now on what's coming that you should be prepared for. I want to go to Gabrielle in Ohio, who is a small

00:10:52.340 business owner, and is trying to get one of the loans from the federal government. Hi, Gabrielle.

00:10:59.760 Gabrielle, are you there? Hi, I'm here. Hi, good to talk to you. Tell me about your your business and

00:11:10.320 what's happening. So I'm a 50 year old business owner. My I've been listening to you since I was 30

00:11:18.260 years old. So 20 years. And my husband's family, our family has been in the restaurant business for 100

00:11:24.800 years with the oldest restaurant family in the state of Ohio. So a year and a half ago, my husband

00:11:30.200 and I decided to open a small pizza place and kind of bring the East Coast pizza to the Midwest.

00:11:36.100 And it's been awesome. And I have all the support of the neighborhood and the community.

00:11:42.360 And this coronavirus hits. And it's been rough. The of course, I have four children, everyone's been

00:11:53.840 helping out whether they're home from college or not in high school right now and doing online

00:11:57.960 classes. Everyone's helping out in the business. The private bank we use has also been great. But

00:12:05.100 I've had to jump through a ton of hoops. And I've had a lot of I have great resources because of my

00:12:09.720 situation with my husband's family being in business for so long. But it was still I'm in the queue waiting

00:12:15.740 for money. I've gotten all my paperwork in. My accountant was awesome. My lawyers were awesome.

00:12:24.640 I'm just how long did how long before they say you get money?

00:12:30.800 They're not making any promises because I think I missed the first batch of money. I think I missed

00:12:36.920 the first load and I'm waiting to see if he releases any more money. Or, you know, the government

00:12:42.580 says, I'm going to give you 250 more trillion. But I cross my P's and dot of my I's and we're

00:12:51.120 all working really hard. And honestly, the state of Ohio is respectful to each other and grateful

00:12:57.000 for where we are right now. Same with my family and my business. And we were doing a lot of

00:13:03.200 things I probably never would have done as a family. But I'm just very grateful. I'm feeling

00:13:10.580 grateful. But just hoping that we can get through this, you know, all together.

00:13:16.960 Good for you, Gabrielle. Thank you so much. God bless you. Let me know what happens, will

00:13:20.780 you? Chuck in North Carolina. Hello, Chuck.

00:13:25.460 Yes, I'm here.

00:13:27.580 Yes, go ahead. You're on.

00:13:28.760 Okay. Glenn, what I have found is that I'm a 70 year old farmer. And I do seasonal three times a

00:13:41.200 year we harvest. And the banks don't know the policies. I mean, bless the banks. They're trying.

00:13:49.740 I'll give them that. But they can't tell me. Initially, they said I get no money. And while I was

00:13:56.560 on hold with you, I got an email that says they're going to go ahead and process my loan. I've requested

00:14:02.580 the money. But they told me that I wouldn't qualify for what I wanted because of the fact,

00:14:12.080 excuse me, that I didn't have 12 months worth of data. Because I hire people for two months at a time.

00:14:23.260 Right. I've got a harvest coming up during May and June. And I mean, I'm I had to hire someone to

00:14:32.200 take my place. Because I'm suffering from Agent Orange cancer. And I'm at high risk because I take

00:14:40.640 chemo every day of my life to stay alive. And I'm trying to check. How are you going to? How are you

00:14:48.180 going to bring this this crop in if you don't have the money? Well, I guess I'm going to have to

00:14:57.860 go down there and help and do it myself. I mean, if I don't, I've still got the problem we have is

00:15:05.920 I've sold nothing. I haven't sold a thing since this started. And in February, when they said that

00:15:15.900 they wanted us to stay at home, I hired someone because I realized this thing is serious.

00:15:22.660 So I decided I need to be at home and quarantine myself till this thing is over. Well, they they

00:15:30.560 won't. They cannot commit that I will get any money to pay that person either. But I'm you know,

00:15:39.720 I guess I'm going to have to. I don't want to help. I really would like to stay quarantine. I,

00:15:46.480 you know, but the good Lord, if he decides he wants me, he's going to take me no matter whether

00:15:52.360 there's coronavirus or not. But Chuck, I, I, we will keep you in our prayers. God bless you. Thank

00:16:02.600 you for sharing this story. Uh, I, I think, I think this is where the rubber is going to meet 0.77

00:16:09.360 the road in, in Donald Trump's reelection. If we can't get the people like Chuck, if we can't get

00:16:17.620 the pizza place owners, if we can't get them money because there's just not enough of it,

00:16:24.400 but these banks are getting everything. Um, he is going to lose reelection. We, we have got to look

00:16:32.620 out for the little guy. It's got to go there first. And we have to get this under control. If I was

00:16:39.880 advising the president today, which I clearly am not, uh, that's what I would tell him, Mr. President,

00:16:45.980 you've got to take care of the little guy who is the farmer and the, the pizza shop owner and the

00:16:52.420 person that owns their own store and have worked so hard and need that money. You need to streamline

00:16:59.420 this and get this to them now before they lose everything. Back in a minute.

00:17:08.840 You're listening to the best of the Glenn Beck program.

00:17:11.600 So you have cabin fever yet? Well, me and my boy, we're out grilling on our rec tech grill. It's

00:17:27.060 time to get out and smell the rec tech man. It just smells so great. Most of us are social creatures

00:17:33.540 and the prospect of spending week after week hold up in our houses is a little upsetting to say the

00:17:38.040 least. And that's why we have this little ray of sunshine sitting on our back porch in this dismal

00:17:42.400 situation. It's still spring outside. The weather is warming up. The birds are singing in the trees

00:17:47.000 and your deck still counts as part of your house. Now, maybe more than ever, it's vital that you get

00:17:51.800 some outside time, some fresh air and nothing compliments that fresh air better than the smell

00:17:56.860 of meat cooking on a rec tech grill rec tech, the number one name in grilling. They are built like

00:18:03.320 tanks, durable, solid, and they are at the front line of smart grilling technology. Do your own

00:18:08.440 research. People in the know choose rec tech. Go ahead. Look, then go to rec tech grills.com.

00:18:14.980 You're going to see the huge difference. That's R-E-C-T-E-C grills with an S dot com.

00:18:21.080 Joining me today to talk about the book is one of the socialists who helped us with the book. It's

00:18:25.400 Professor Tweed. And good to have you on the program, Professor.

00:18:29.320 I'm charmed, Mr. Pack.

00:18:30.400 Professor, are you there?

00:18:31.280 Yes, hello.

00:18:31.820 Uh, hi. How are you, sir?

00:18:33.200 I'm charmed.

00:18:33.480 Yes, hi.

00:18:34.640 I'm elated to have access to this platform to encourage those listening to free themselves

00:18:40.160 from the shackles of the 18th century mindset of debt and deficits. The era of how are we

00:18:47.200 going to pay for it is long dead. The truth is, because the government can print its own

00:18:52.580 money, we needn't fret about the potential of insolvency. We could and should run the printing

00:19:00.400 presses, as you so sophomorely call it, as much as needed to guarantee everyone with living

00:19:07.160 wage, paying jobs, health care, clean energy, free college. And if I had my way, at least

00:19:13.520 one of those motorized scooters that are so popular in Italia.

00:19:17.600 Right. Right. That's wonderful. That's wonderful. Uh, so, uh, uh, professor, I mean, uh, as entertaining

00:19:28.000 as you are, really a free enterprise capitalism is, uh, actually a really simple system. You

00:19:33.980 know, I own property, you own property. You right now are probably looking at the script

00:19:39.860 saying, where the hell are you? Uh, which is exactly what, exactly what I was doing just

00:19:46.680 a minute ago, looking at, uh, where the hell are you? I have a very specific, I was emailed

00:19:52.520 this script specifically to do in this particular segment. I was emailed it. It's weird. I was

00:19:57.980 emailed another script, uh, professor, and I was looking for any keywords quickly. So I really

00:20:03.540 didn't even hear your point. Oh, well it was a great one about modern monetary theory. Theory.

00:20:09.840 Yes. Yes. Modern monetary theory. Yes. And then what is your question on that? Uh, yes,

00:20:15.240 I am familiar. It's in, uh, chapter six of the new book. Well, here's the thing, fat man.

00:20:20.500 Basically you can put as much money as you want to. And the bottom line at the end of the

00:20:25.220 day, everyone's going to be a, a, okay, just like AOC says. Uh, so professor, how do you

00:20:33.500 pay for all of these things? How do you stop inflation? Oh, please. We don't need to pay

00:20:41.800 for things. We don't need to even tax rich folks like yourself, Mr. Beck. But I will tell

00:20:49.040 you, we will. Taxation is still a valuable tool to deal with income inequality. To quote

00:20:55.680 a professor at Bard College, L. Randall Ray, what we will do is we will tax the rich. What

00:21:03.460 will we do with the tax revenue? Burn it. Uncle Sam doesn't need your money. Of course, 0.90

00:21:09.920 as you know, we can just print that money. You just, you're just an awful human being. 1.00

00:21:18.200 You despicable piece of. I don't think we're doing a good job on this one, uh, professor. 1.00

00:21:24.140 I, I think, uh, I think we're doing a really lousy, lousy job on this. Uh, here's what you

00:21:31.080 need to know. Modern monetary theory is printing money with everyone saying, we don't need any

00:21:38.540 tax money. We don't need any dollars. We don't need the rich. We can just print it. And they

00:21:44.720 take the taxes and they use that to set price controls to stop you from buying the things

00:21:53.060 the government doesn't want you to buy. They, uh, control inflation by having price controls.

00:22:00.180 All the things that have been tried over and over that never, ever work.

00:22:05.780 I, I was just saying that and, and it does, you weren't even listening to me. I don't know,

00:22:11.020 fiddling with Twinkies or whatever you, it is you do over there.

00:22:18.900 How can we have two separate scripts on that one, Stu? I, I mean, I had cat woman in my script

00:22:27.640 and I don't even, I, it's weird. I have no idea. I have no idea. No idea. It's one of those

00:22:34.940 things. A socialist radio program would have nailed that one. Yeah, it would have, it would

00:22:40.700 have. It's called NPR. It's called NPR. Um, uh, anyway, the, uh, the, the, we, we were out

00:22:48.860 last night. We did a book signing last night. Everything is virtual. I haven't seen Stu in,

00:22:53.860 I don't know how, how many days, how many days have we been doing this now? Has it been three

00:22:57.900 weeks? Is this, are we going on three weeks? Yeah. Cause we did. Yeah. It was two weeks.

00:23:02.620 Initially it was the 15 days to stop the spread and now it's the 30 additional days to stop the

00:23:07.880 spread. So we're a week into that, I think. What are they in, in China now? They just lifted the

00:23:15.560 ban in Wuhan. So is it, was it 70 days? 72 days, I believe is what they, they did in Wuhan. Now,

00:23:21.860 of course, lifting the ban in Wuhan is still probably more restrictive than we have it right

00:23:26.560 now. I think their normal life is worse than, than our lockdown life. But yeah, they, they are

00:23:32.860 saying, uh, look, we're past this thing. Uh, that's going to be interesting to see if that's true.

00:23:38.580 Yeah. Well, they might be past it for now, but I think this is what's going to be the big surprise

00:23:43.780 to most Americans. Uh, it's probably coming back this fall. Uh, there's a good chance of it coming

00:23:51.460 back. Now, I guess maybe we can, we can really help stop the spread of this if we don't open up our

00:23:57.460 borders and we don't fly around everywhere, but America's going to change.

00:24:06.140 This is the best of a Glenn Beck program.

00:24:09.140 He was the former governor of Texas, a great governor of Texas, former U S energy secretary.

00:24:24.620 His name is Rick Perry. He joins us now, Rick. I have to tell you that I think you're what should

00:24:31.060 lead on your resume is the guy who forged the path to American energy independence.

00:24:36.780 Thank you for that. Well, that's nice of you to say, but, uh, the fact is it was those, uh,

00:24:43.220 independent operators out there that day in and day out went out and, uh, took advantage of what

00:24:48.560 the message was from the president, which was, you know, get out of their way. Don't ever,

00:24:52.720 don't overregulate them. Don't overtax them. Uh, we obviously figured that out pretty early on in

00:24:58.120 Texas. And, uh, this president clearly saw that if you won't get in the way of the fossil fuel

00:25:06.680 industry, if you will give Texans and for that matter, people from North Dakota and Pennsylvania

00:25:11.500 and Louisiana, if you'll give them the opportunity to go, uh, explore, they will use their technology,

00:25:19.520 their innovation, and they will flourish. And that's exactly what we did. Glenn is, is America

00:25:25.460 became the number one oil and gas producing, uh, country in the world. As a matter of fact,

00:25:31.260 December 1st was my last day on the job, uh, 2019 is secretary of energy and the information

00:25:37.900 and the energy information agency announced that day that America for the first time in 70 years

00:25:45.940 was a net exporter of energy. What a fabulous, um, uh, statement to make for this administration,

00:25:55.700 what this president did. And now we see it all put into jeopardy and we see it put into jeopardy

00:26:01.040 because it's something that, you know, if anybody saw this coming, I'm going to call BS on them.

00:26:06.780 Glenn, I can promise. Uh, the, the, the, we've had a, go ahead.

00:26:14.580 Well, I was just going to say the Saudis and the Russian were having their OPEC meeting and listen,

00:26:18.120 OPEC has been around since night. You know, we've, we've, we've seen them manipulating the market.

00:26:22.920 That's what they do. That's, you know, that's just a reality of life. I'm not going to say it's

00:26:26.780 good, bad, or indifferent. It just is what it is. And they were meeting. The Russians are hurting.

00:26:33.420 Russians are hurting financially partly because they tried to manipulate the, uh, energy market 1.00

00:26:40.280 in Europe and try to be the only source if that would have been very good for them from their

00:26:46.320 perspective. But the U S saw the danger in the European countries only having to rely upon

00:26:54.160 Russian energy. Therefore we were against this Nordstrom two pipeline, which would have really

00:27:01.220 put Europe in jeopardy from the, uh, the Russian and, and standpoint energy reliance on Russia. So

00:27:08.300 we came out very strong against that. The president laid the law down and the Russians really hurt. 0.99

00:27:16.300 Uncertain economically. They go back into this OPEC plus meeting with the Saudis some 30 plus days

00:27:23.240 ago. And the Saudis are continuing to restrict production to keep the price of oil in that,

00:27:30.180 you know, I don't know what it was in those days, high thirties, uh, low forties. It may have been

00:27:34.160 above that. I, I, it's moved around so much lately, but the point is this, the Russians said,

00:27:40.780 Nope, we ain't doing this anymore. And, um, my understanding was there was a very heated

00:27:47.580 conversation between the Saudi minister, the Russian new minister, and they walked away.

00:27:56.160 Russia said, we're going to go produce. And the Saudi said, Oh, okay. We'll see. Who's, uh, 0.70

00:28:04.540 who's got the biggest, uh, said here. Yeah. Who can last longest. And Monday, that next Monday,

00:28:11.280 they announced a $7 to $8 decrease in the cause, the cost of crude and the market started down.

00:28:20.200 No one, I think saw at that particular point in time, COVID-19 coming in and, and being this

00:28:27.500 global pandemic. There may have been some people in hindsight that are saying it, but I certainly was

00:28:33.640 not seeing it or hearing it at that particular point in time. That caused a complication of

00:28:40.800 massive proportion where economies start to be shut down. The demand on the oil and gas industry

00:28:47.520 basically is dried up. Aviation fuel down 91%. This was two weeks ago. Gasoline demand down 50%,

00:28:57.320 that same timeframe. So this has been a, uh, the, uh, compounding issue here. And, and Glenn, I, I wish I

00:29:08.480 could tell you that, uh, you know, we could snap our fingers. We get this, uh, we get this, uh, pandemic

00:29:15.760 out of the way. And, and we go back to the rosy economic picture that we had in one of the strongest

00:29:22.300 economies, if not the strongest economies, if not the strongest economy that America has ever had

00:29:25.500 just six weeks ago. But I can't say that here's what I can say though, that this, this pandemic

00:29:34.900 is, is we work towards finding the solution to move us, uh, farther away from the, the, the peak deaths,

00:29:44.480 the peak people who are being, uh, affected by, uh, we're not going to find a vaccine anytime in,

00:29:53.380 in the near future, but there are things that we can do. Uh, and there's some pretty exciting stuff

00:29:58.560 out there. I want to talk about if I, if I can, before I get out of here, because I've spent as much

00:30:02.120 time on the COVID-19 partly because people don't make the connection between the department of energy

00:30:08.200 and medicine. And they should, because the DOE operates the supercomputers at the national labs.

00:30:16.800 And those supercomputers are coming up with some fascinating theories, uh, that may be more than

00:30:22.680 theories that may be actuality and how to deal with this and to, uh, to, to conquer it substantially

00:30:29.940 quicker than historically how you would have dealt with the pandemic. But let me go back to the energy

00:30:35.240 side of it a second. And this is going to be demand driven. Uh, we're, we're going to see some

00:30:43.420 pretty rough next 30 days in the oil and gas business. You know, I, I think, uh, I don't know

00:30:48.940 what West Texas intermediate opened at. I want to say around $23, uh, yesterday, uh, Brett, Brent, uh,

00:30:57.200 uh, the North Atlantic crude was about $32. That's a big spread between those two. It's normally

00:31:04.100 closer than that. But one of the reasons is because the transportation costs. And one of the reasons

00:31:09.000 is because the U S shell producers are so efficient. We basically, uh, produced, uh, at, at, at massive

00:31:20.260 amounts. We were right at, I want to say we were right at 13 million barrels a day that we were

00:31:27.800 producing. I can think about that 13 million barrels a day. Uh, the estimate that came out yesterday,

00:31:33.980 by the energy information agency is that we're going to be down about 1.6, 1.8. So let's say

00:31:41.980 11 billion barrels a day. What does this mean for the energy independence? What does it mean for the

00:31:50.200 oil producers here in America? You said last week that you thought oil will Texas would collapse.

00:31:56.660 What, what does this really mean? What the, the, the statement that I made is if the government

00:32:05.020 and you know me, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm basically, uh, uh, would in, in a perfect world at the free

00:32:12.340 market, we're not in a perfect world. We're being, we're seeing not only the manipulation of the market

00:32:18.340 by, uh, the Saudis and by the Russians, but also you've got this pandemic. So there is a time that

00:32:25.620 government steps in and government is very much needed. This is it. If there's ever been one

00:32:30.420 to save the independent producer, I will tell you, Glenn, if we lose the independent producer in

00:32:36.480 America, and I'm not talking about just Tapsons. Yeah, we got more of anybody else, but North Dakota,

00:32:41.580 Pennsylvania, Louisiana, if you lose that independent producer, we could wake up in a year,

00:32:47.940 literally in a year. And there are four major oil companies in the world that control all of the

00:32:55.840 production. Exxon Mobil, Aramco, Rosneft, which is the Russian company, and maybe BP and Chevron,

00:33:05.940 you know, maybe four or five. I mean, you, that scares me to death as an American to have five companies

00:33:16.140 that could literally control the tap of energy for the world. Just think about it. That puts us back

00:33:22.920 in 1974. Absolutely. And I was a pilot of the United States Air Force in 1974. And I remember how

00:33:31.520 daunting that period of time was for America from the standpoint of, wait a minute, people who have

00:33:38.280 our interest in their hands may not have our best interest in mind. And from a national defense

00:33:47.200 standpoint, if nothing else, I mean, you could see gas prices literally five or six dollars a gallon.

00:33:54.020 I mean, I don't think that's out of the realm of possibility. If the Russians and the Saudis 1.00

00:33:59.420 decide to turn that tap off, go ask the Ukrainians what it's like to be at the hands of Russia. They 0.76

00:34:10.120 will manipulate that energy. I guarantee you they will. So what has to happen, Rick? Is the

00:34:17.020 president moving towards helping? Okay. I think the president is open. He's obviously been on the phone

00:34:26.060 to the minister, Abdulaziz bin Salman. He's been on the phone to the crown prince, MBS. He's talked to

00:34:39.820 Putin. And the Secretary of Energy, Dan Bruet, he has been directly in conversations with the Russians

00:34:50.680 and Saudis from the standpoint of of how we deal with this. But here here are two things that I 0.90

00:34:57.260 mentioned these last week, and I still think they are worth having an in-depth conversation. And I hope

00:35:04.600 the president will take a look at them and consider them. One is to for 60 to 90 days, this isn't from

00:35:13.340 now on, but for 60 to 90 days, direct the refineries. And I think you can do it through an executive

00:35:19.940 order would be my bad. Send the message to the refineries. You don't refine anything but

00:35:28.420 American sourced crude. Now, that'll do two things. Number one, it'll shore up that market,

00:35:37.360 give it a floor, if you will, help it from going down anymore. And I kind of like the idea of using

00:35:43.520 American crude. I don't have a problem with that. Now, there are those out there that say, well,

00:35:48.560 you can't do that because you've got to have this certain blend and the sour crude comes from

00:35:53.460 from Saudia. You know what? We can we can manage that. We can manage that. You know, you may want

00:36:01.760 to waive the Jones Act so that we can move oil from one port in the United States to another port in the

00:36:07.780 United States, not have to rely upon a U.S. a U.S. flag. I've always thought that the the Jones Act in

00:36:19.100 times of great national security ought to be waived. And I don't care who's I don't care whose vessel

00:36:27.340 you're using. Move it from this port to this port to get it closer to the refinery. Get that Canadian 0.99

00:36:34.300 oil down through our pipeline system. You can manage that. The second thing, Glenn, that I think

00:36:41.660 would make a massive difference. And it's a good business practice. And if Donald Trump is nothing,

00:36:47.900 he's a good businessman. He thinks in how do you do a deal? Have the Treasury go by. Let's pitch out a

00:36:57.280 good number. Fifteen to twenty billion dollars worth of oil futures. Now, number one, what do you bet

00:37:04.660 that oil is going to be higher in twenty twenty one and twenty twenty two? That's probably a lot.

00:37:11.500 Yeah, it's probably a pretty good bet. So if you bought oil futures today, then you would be sitting

00:37:17.640 on a good investment. Plus, that would put a floor on these oil prices. So I think there are two things

00:37:24.360 that the administration could do to be very powerful over and above what they've already

00:37:29.780 done from the standpoint of talking to these countries and saying, hey, listen, we're not

00:37:34.880 going to allow you to destroy the shell producer, the independent operator in America, because it's

00:37:40.400 the one thing that keeps us from being controlled by by energy companies that don't necessarily have

00:37:50.020 our best interest in mind. Rick, I've got less than a minute. Just real quick. I don't need to get

00:37:55.660 into the weeds on this. April 14th, the Texas Railroad Commission is meeting to do something

00:38:01.460 possibly they haven't done since the 70s, which is curb oil production. Is that going to happen?

00:38:07.980 I think there's a real possibility that the commission can take that step. And when you think

00:38:16.560 about that, if this is the movement that needs to occur, again, all of us, you know, we're free

00:38:25.000 market folks, but this is extraordinary times. How do you save that American? I mean, let me tell

00:38:33.580 you, the Texas budget, oh my God, I can't imagine how bad the Texas budget is going to be. The severance

00:38:44.140 tax is going to be in the tank, you know, with this pandemic and the sales tax revenues. I mean,

00:38:50.520 there's no telling. It may be 25, 30 percent lower revenues coming in than what they've got to spend.

00:38:57.800 It's going to be the toughest legislative session from a budget standpoint, potentially in the history

00:39:04.360 of the state. So everything that the state can do right now, right now, they need to be having

00:39:11.680 that conversation about. And I would suggest that Texas doing its part to restrict for some period

00:39:21.320 of time the production of crude might be a very thoughtful thing. All right. Rick Perry, thank you so

00:39:29.500 much for everything. Thanks for coming on the program. Former U.S. Energy Secretary, the guy who

00:39:34.240 I think is responsible, along with the Trump administration, to bring us energy independence.

00:39:40.020 It's a lot of his policies as governor of Texas that helped the oil industry actually figure out

00:39:46.400 and be free enough to make us energy independent. Thank you so much, Rick. I appreciate it.
