00:17:50.340 this this week right right so in 2016 may 2016 my home group asian american coalition for education
00:17:58.560 brought a federal civil rights complaint against yale um it's alleged anti-asian
00:18:05.380 discrimination in admissions and after a two-year investigation by the trump administration's
00:18:13.120 department of justice they concluded that yale in fact discriminated against asian american applicants
00:18:21.380 with quotas highest standards and stereotypes all these you know good stuff and um and and last year
00:18:30.280 last august doj launched a federal lawsuit against yale as a result of our civil rights complaint so we
00:18:39.160 were very happy to to to to see that um that result and that lawsuit but uh we it's kind of um expected
00:18:50.600 that the biden administration uh would roll back would dismiss this lawsuit while just not eight days
00:18:58.500 after the administration signed an executive order um combating anti-asian xenophobia and racism so you
00:19:07.280 see the glaring irony here right so are they really for equal rights are they or they're just about
00:19:15.060 ideological uh racial spoils and identity politics so let me switch now to california uh because the same
00:19:24.200 kind of thing is happening in california on a mass scale with the ethnics studies um the curriculum that
00:19:32.560 has been released uh we have seen the first draft i know they're up on the third draft now um but some of
00:19:39.580 these things uh are really disturbing first of all it seems to be the motive to put everybody into a
00:19:47.860 little category a little box and make sure you understand your divisions um there is a in the
00:19:54.920 curriculum a historic u.s social movements black lives matter me too criminal justice reform but it
00:20:01.940 also includes boycott divestment and sanctions movement for palestine described described as a global
00:20:08.020 social movement that currently aims to establish freedom for palestinians living under apartheid
00:20:14.680 conditions holy cow it also teaches that the 1948 israel war of independence they refer to that as nakba
00:20:24.660 which if you know anything about the arab world uh that is uh what they call the day of independence
00:20:31.300 in arabic it means catastrophe john lewis martin luther king justice thurgo marshall were not
00:20:39.200 in uh the the uh influential people section however pol pot was in uh right capitalism classified as a
00:20:51.160 form of power and oppression although classism homophobia islamophobia and transphobia were listed
00:20:56.840 as forms of oppression anti-semitism was not uh what what is this this is this is science fiction
00:21:09.180 becoming reality so before we delve into the you know the the technical details of this very divisive
00:21:17.940 and problematic third draft third and final draft of ethnic studies model curriculum i would like to
00:21:23.380 just talk a little bit about uh my background and also how i got involved um in a bigger context so
00:21:32.700 currently as you introduced i am with californians for equal rights a non-partisan and non-profit
00:21:38.780 organization with a mission to promote the principles of equality and merit and between
00:21:45.620 fighting for equal education rights of asian american students from my home group and defending california's
00:21:51.460 constitutional principle of equal rights and pushing back this ideological invasion of critical
00:21:57.340 ethnic studies in california's k-12 education okay but i see a name when you win i think that in the old
00:22:06.360 days uh people would have thought well then you know glenn beck and when you and woo have you know
00:22:12.640 they're on different sides of the no i think we both define equal rights the in an opposite way than what
00:22:20.660 is now being uh pushed in california where you're saying let's understand that uh everybody has the
00:22:30.660 same access and the same rights that's not what's being taught now no not at all not at all and this
00:22:39.840 is very very dangerous so the movement in california regarding this ethnic studies model curriculum
00:22:46.860 i in my opinion must be understood in relation to these systematic assaults on equal treatment and
00:22:54.040 merit in the golden state and beyond in 2020 i had the honor to be part of the heroic non-16 campaign
00:23:01.860 which successfully defeated a racial preference ballot measure proposition 16 on the state ballot
00:23:08.800 with an impressive margin of 57 percent versus 43 percent even though i can't
00:23:15.600 so if people don't know that was uh the vote to reverse the discrimination laws that you
00:23:23.200 you could discriminate for social justice right okay right right exactly so that ballot measure would
00:23:31.100 have brought would have reversed a very important principle in the california constitution which
00:23:38.360 clearly states that the state shall not discriminate against or grant preferential treatment to any
00:23:44.800 individual or group on the basis of race sex color ethnicity or national origin in the operation of
00:23:52.400 public employment public education or public contracting but the california state legislature is
00:23:59.360 perennially obsessed with race and is even currently considering a list of bills that it would have
00:24:05.820 reinstated racial preferences in a number of public policy areas and these race-obsessed lawmakers also have
00:24:13.800 powerful allies such as the university of california teachers unions and even the california chamber of
00:24:20.140 commerce which all endorsed racial preferences last year and in the meantime it's crazy and in the
00:24:27.880 meantime you know our quality of k-12 education in california continues to decline with low income and
00:24:36.020 minority students being heard the minority students being heard the most so for example over 60 percent of
00:24:40.740 california students grades 3 to 11 cannot do math proficiently and only 50 percent can read proficiently oh my gosh
00:24:50.020 there is a and there is a persistent racial achievement gap of course but instead of legislating or promoting
00:24:56.740 policies that address root causes behind the gaps in the abysmal state of public education these politicians and civil
00:25:04.580 servants i call them ideologues they want to perpetuate the problem first with racial preferences
00:25:11.060 then with dumbing down the standards and now with political indoctrination in this very divisive
00:25:18.580 ethnic studies model curriculum and i would like to you know go into uh talking about this critical ethnic
