Ted Cruz joins Glenn Beck to discuss day two of the impeachment trial, Bill O'Reilly stops in, and we continue on the crazy timeline that The New York Times was actually defending from the trial, and Elizabeth Warren is confronted by a dad who is not even political at all.
00:00:00.000Hey, it's Friday. Got a great Friday show for you right out of the box with Senator Ted Cruz.
00:00:05.520Then we go over some of the evidence that, you know, they if I can use the word evidence, can I use the word evidence for day two of the impeachment trial?
00:00:14.280Bill O'Reilly stops in. Then we continue on this crazy timeline that The New York Times was was actually defending from the trial.
00:00:24.560Well, what's good in theaters this weekend? And Elizabeth Warren is confronted by a dad who is not, I don't think, even political at all.
00:00:34.080Just mad. He's lived the right life. He's worked hard to save money for his daughter's college.
00:00:39.020She's worked since she was 10 to save money. Does he get his money back?
00:00:44.120Elizabeth Warren's response is unusual and expected. But you're looking at another Joe, the plumber against a socialist.
00:00:54.560You're listening to the best of the Glenn Beck program.
00:01:08.660All right, let's go to Senator Ted Cruz. Hello, Senator. How are you, sir?
00:01:13.400I'm doing terrific, Glenn. How are you doing?
00:01:15.080Good. I want to talk about your new podcast on this every day. You're distilling all of the things that you are.
00:01:21.060But I also want to ask you personally, I can't take this this just relentless going over the same, quote unquote, facts over and over and over again.
00:01:31.100And the lies. What is it like to have to sit there and not say anything and not have any distractions?
00:01:41.260Well, it has been pretty relentless. You're right that the House Democrats, their strategy has apparently been to just be so redundant, to repeat the same things over and over and over again and to try to, I guess, bore the American people to death.
00:03:05.640And and I'll tell you, I think yesterday was a very consequential day because yesterday that the House managers effectively threw Joe Biden under the bus.
00:03:16.840And I don't know if they did so intentionally or not, but the reason they did so is they doubled down on what they had started doing on the first day of arguments, which is making the case.
00:03:27.000Their entire case now is based on the proposition that there is zero evidence that justifies investigating Burisma.
00:03:36.660Burisma is the Ukrainian natural gas company on whose board Hunter Biden, Joe Biden's son sat and was paid a million bucks a year.
00:03:43.780And their whole case now is based on the proposition that that that that it was that there was an investigation into Burisma was a fraud, a sham.
00:03:55.060It was bogus that it was completely without merit.
00:03:58.020And the only reason anyone might want to wanted to investigate Burisma is because of improper political motives, because Joe Biden would be the president's one of his possible opponents in 2020.
00:04:10.620Now, as you know, and you've done some great reporting on this, Glenn, that proposition that there's zero evidence to investigate Burisma is utterly and completely absurd.
00:04:22.100And so I am looking forward to Saturday when when when the president's lawyers will begin presenting his case, because what the Democrats have done is they have opened the door to this.
00:04:32.260And I hope that the president's lawyer lawyers will stand up and systematically lay out the case.
00:04:38.540Glenn, you mentioned I've launched a podcast.
00:04:44.140And what I'm doing is every night when this thing ends, even if it ends at two in the morning, I'm heading over to the studio, jumping to the truck, heading to the studio and recording it that night, typically within the hour.
00:04:54.780My thoughts, my assessments, about a half hour each night and last night's podcast that we recorded just after midnight went through systematically.
00:05:04.500Here is all of the overwhelming evidence of corruption from Burisma that any president not only had the authority to investigate, but the responsibility to investigate.
00:05:16.300And that ultimately is why President Trump's going to be acquitted at the end of this process.
00:05:20.940So you you made quite a statement the other day.
00:05:23.260You said, hey, they just opened themselves up for Hunter Biden being a witness.
00:05:26.360Tell me tell me about because you mentioned it in, I think, Wednesday's podcast that, you know, the Republican secret weapon.
00:05:33.460Tell me what what you mean by that and how you see this playing out.
00:05:41.740It's a phrase you'll see trial lawyers and litigators often make reference to.
00:05:46.160And what it means is when one side makes an issue contested, makes an issue important to their case, it opens the door then for the other side to bring in the reputation of that.
00:05:58.720So when they stand up yesterday, the House managers stood up absurdly and argued for about an hour that there's no reason at all to investigate Burisma.
00:06:07.600That opens the door to, well, here are all the reasons.
00:06:11.320And that means they've been arguing Hunter Biden is completely irrelevant to this case.
00:06:17.180Well, the House managers have now through through their arguments made made Hunter Biden not only relevant, he was always relevant, but critical now because their case is based on that.
00:06:28.780They built the entire case like a house of cards of the proposition that that that that that there was no reasonable basis to investigate Burisma.
00:06:37.940And that's just absurd. So I haven't heard your your podcast yet on Burisma and everything else.
00:06:44.940But do you tie in the fact that what was his name?
00:06:48.200Call of call of shops. I can't remember his name, but the the head guy of Burisma is also the head guy of Privat Bank.
00:06:55.700And the money was going through going through going through Burisma to Privat Bank and then it all disappears.
00:07:02.580I mean, it's the same guy. And and they're doing an investigation now.
00:07:08.600Ukrainian. Yes, they're there. And he's the Ukrainian oligarch who who has been investigated as assets seized for money laundering.
00:07:17.340And Joe Biden was right in the middle of this. And as you know, but not enough people across the country know Joe Biden bragged about I mean, was proud of that.
00:07:27.860He threatened to hold up a billion dollars in Ukrainian aid and in foreign loan guarantees on unless and until Ukraine fired the prosecutor that was investigating Burisma,
00:07:41.380the company that was paying his son a million dollars a year. I mean, it is he also I mean, he also claims that there wasn't an investigation going on at the time.
00:07:52.480And we have the court documents to show that it was filed.
00:07:55.840And we also have inside State Department memos where they are they are notifying and saying there's an investigation starting.
00:08:06.940What should we do? Blah, blah, blah. I mean, we know they knew there was an investigation going on.
00:08:12.700And Hunter Biden was one of the targets when Joe Biden sat down and said, you got to you got to you got to fire this corrupt prosecutor.
00:08:21.760So their their entire case is built on on really. I don't know how to say it other than this lies, verifiable lies.
00:08:32.860That is exactly right. You know, last night after I did the show, I tweeted out a timeline.
00:08:38.820My Twitter handles at Ted Cruz and you can see the timeline if you want to look at one document that just lays out some of the key facts that played out.
00:08:46.440And the timeline is damning. If you want to understand what happened, you just look at the timeline of the key facts.
00:08:54.780And as everything played out, it appears clear on its face that Burisma was paying a million bucks a year to the vice president's son because they wanted to curry favor.
00:09:04.440They wanted the vice president to help him out. And it sure looks like Joe Biden was was in on the deal and more than happy to comply because he delivered everything they wanted.
00:09:15.780So the the thing with the witnesses, John Bolton, what are your thoughts on John Bolton and the whistleblower and Hunter Biden?
00:09:25.240Any of this going to happen? So I don't know. I actually it's an open question and it's not clear the way it's going to play out.
00:09:32.880House managers have another day of opening arguments today. The president's lawyers have up to three days.
00:09:38.680They have Saturday. They have Monday. They have Tuesday if they can if they want to take it.
00:09:42.400I don't know that they'll take all three days. We then move into questions from senators.
00:09:46.840Sixteen hours of questions from senators. We don't ask them directly. Instead, we write them out and the chief justice asks them for us.
00:09:54.540At that point, there is a scheduled vote and the Senate will vote on whether or not it is in order to subpoena and call additional witnesses and additional documents.
00:10:04.800If 51 senators say no, no, that we've got plenty, we've got all we need to decide this, then it's over.
00:10:12.980Then we'll move directly to final judgment. We'll vote and the president will be acquitted because the House managers haven't proven their case and they haven't met the constitutional standards for high crimes and misdemeanors.
00:10:23.440OK, so, Ted, let me ask you, let me ask you this, because there's two trials going on and I want you to take off your lawyer hat for a second and even your political hat.
00:10:32.700You know, the president, if he is if he is indeed not guilty, which I believe he's not and and he should not be removed when you've won the case, lawyers should sit down and not.
00:10:48.340Well, let's roll the dice. You've won the case. Close it.
00:10:51.480However, there's another trial going on, and that is this. I sat down with Stu and I was I was going over yesterday's impeachment hearing and I I said to Stu, I have no faith.
00:11:03.700If this is what this government can do to the president of the United States and get away with it, what even if he is even if he is voted to remain in office, I don't have any trust in our judicial system.
00:11:18.620I have no trust in our system. How can you make sure that the American people see it as a fair trial and and do enough to hear from people that on both sides are like, well, I wouldn't mind hearing from that person without torching the other side, which is the legal side of, hey, what?
00:11:40.560Well, I think the Senate has already done much, much better than the House and in that the House did a one sided partisan show trial.
00:11:50.580They would own they only allowed witnesses for the prosecution.
00:11:53.720They would not allow the White House to call witnesses.
00:11:57.200They wouldn't allow the White House to cross examine evidence.
00:11:59.500It was it was it was a kangaroo court.
00:12:01.540It was it was only prosecution witnesses allowed.
00:12:04.860The Senate has already done much better.
00:12:07.520We're in the middle of giving giving the House managers 24 hours to fully present their case, to argue it, to argue it ad nauseum.
00:12:15.200They've now argued it a thousand different ways to Sunday.
00:12:18.380We're going to give the president that same opportunity, the first opportunity the president has had to argue his case.
00:12:25.420We're respecting due process and we're holding a fair trial, as is our constitutional responsibility.
00:12:31.080I hope what happens is I hope the president's lawyers do an effective job making this case, laying out the defense.
00:12:39.500I pulled the president's lawyers aside last night and urged them that they need to systematically walk through less of the process, but the substance.
00:12:49.600Make the case why the president is innocent.
00:12:52.340And I think Burisma is front and center.
00:12:54.680And so so so what I walked through on the podcast last night of the evidence of corruption at Burisma, I encourage them, walks, walk through that.
00:13:04.400Play the clips, play the clip of Joe Biden bragging about forcing Ukraine, pressuring Ukraine to fire the prosecutor.
00:13:38.760Let's vote not guilty and acquit the president.
00:13:41.720On the other hand, I look, I can't control how the other 99 senators vote.
00:13:45.140Forty seven senators, all of the Democrats will vote for more witnesses because they want a fishing expedition because they know they haven't proven their case.
00:13:53.220It is at least possible that four Republicans will join them.
00:13:56.920There are several Republicans that have talked about joining them.
00:14:00.440The case that I've made to the other Republican senators is I've said, listen, if we go down the road of witnesses, then at a minimum, we can't be unfair and partisan like the House was.
00:14:12.540We need to respect the principle of reciprocity.
00:14:15.680That means if the prosecution gets a witness, the defense gets a witness.
00:14:19.560So if the prosecution gets John Bolton, then the defense gets Hunter Biden.
00:14:24.120And I think there is widespread agreement among the Republican conference that we will do that, which means it's either over next week with final judgment and acquittal, or this thing is going on for potentially weeks or months.
00:14:39.000But we're going to get be even handed, which means we'll get to hear from these defense witnesses.
00:14:44.160The House Democrats wouldn't allow to testify.
00:14:46.140Senator Ted Cruz, you can follow him at Senator Ted Cruz.
00:14:50.920And I have verdictpodcast.com, but that's different than what you said.
00:36:36.840I just give her some jazz, giving her a hard time.
00:36:39.200See, I don't think this is giving her jazz.
00:36:40.980I think if that was me and I was running and trying to, you know, be president and have credibility.
00:36:48.180If another candidate came out and said, yeah, they're grooming her and the the the Russians have her on her on their radar and they're helping her right now.
00:39:13.260I don't know much about these diseases.
00:39:17.840It strikes me to be similar to the Ebola virus, that some people are going to die, unfortunately, and then it will kind of peter out in a month or so.
00:39:27.040So I hope that, you know, look, these are things that happen in life.
00:41:33.300Okay, so I'm going to predict that the president is going to open the State of the Union with a very simple message to the American people.
00:41:44.620I think we can all assume somewhere in that address those words will be spoken.
00:42:20.300I don't know the time frame, but, you know, they'll suspend it or they'll take a break or they'll all go to Club Med or something will happen.
