00:39:52.600 mentioned and at the hands of an HOA

00:39:54.540 they're now in their third lawsuit

00:39:57.000 and all they want to do is live out

00:39:59.380 faithfully be able to walk on the

00:40:01.220 Sabbath to their to their small

00:40:02.820 synagogue that meets in a small home

00:40:04.620 in their neighborhood which is totally

00:40:07.180 fine with with with all zoning in

00:40:11.060 Texas I mean right you can have a

00:40:13.000 church or a synagogue or anything in

00:40:14.320 your house and that's that's right

00:40:15.480 it's actually illegal for a city to

00:40:17.340 say a church can't meet in a zone in

00:40:19.420 Texas I mean think about it our

00:40:21.220 churches could be excluded from any

00:40:23.880 jurisdiction if zoning laws were

00:40:25.580 enforced in this way right and there

00:40:27.740 is no problem with this I want you to

00:40:37.520 and the HOA was fine until this guy

00:40:50.240 campaign to smear the HOA and get

00:40:53.640 people to move away some of them get

00:40:58.200 had to move away and others he he put

00:41:01.700 people on the HOA specifically it seems

00:41:07.280 eventually he became the president of

00:41:10.480 the HOA it was a it was a personal

00:41:12.640 lawsuit from him and he joined the HOA

00:41:15.480 became the president got board members

00:41:19.520 pardon me and it became a lawsuit from

00:41:21.640 the HOA against the synagogue and we

00:41:24.100 were very isolated because we are

00:41:25.740 members of the HOA in that community and

00:41:29.440 the HOA was coming after us but the HOA 1.00

00:41:34.600 before he got there nothing the HOA was

00:41:36.880 fine in fact the head of the HOA said

00:41:39.460 to him when he first complained she said

00:42:25.760 house right but is his house up for sale

00:42:34.620 it because you guys have been doing it for

00:42:39.020 excuse that every HOA complainant usually

00:42:57.240 right to be able to be there as a matter

00:42:59.120 of right under the city ordinance here what

00:43:00.860 we're quibbling over right now after many

00:43:03.800 rounds of discussions with the city of

00:43:05.260 Dallas is over six parking spaces for

00:43:08.200 goodness sake for a for a congregation

00:43:10.380 that doesn't drive on the Sabbath you

00:43:13.060 would think that that would be a simple

00:43:14.260 solution here to allow people to go

00:43:16.100 there but you know I think underlying all

00:43:18.660 this is exactly what you pointed out there

00:43:20.280 is a a desire to push back on this

00:43:23.380 specific group of religious exercise as I

00:43:26.700 don't know if it was mentioned earlier but

00:43:28.080 remember Rabbi Rich had his car vandalized

00:43:30.820 with the spray painting of a swastika on it I

00:43:33.260 didn't know that they've had to they've had

00:43:34.800 to get a grant from the federal government

00:43:36.600 to maintain better security at their

00:43:39.440 place of worship because of the threats

00:43:41.600 that have come in here but that's exactly

00:43:43.480 what happens when we don't allow people to

00:43:46.180 have the freedom to peacefully exercise

00:43:48.020 their religious beliefs and that's why

00:44:12.500 feet in front of the door on the sidewalk

00:44:18.180 was coming and it it was very very

00:44:21.340 difficult as a rabbi of a congregation

00:44:34.100 the solution here I mean are we down to

00:44:36.600 because this the HOA keeps saying if I'm

00:44:44.660 it and there's this a never-ending laundry

00:44:48.040 list is that accurate that's accurate we

00:44:50.840 actually won the lawsuit against the HOA and

00:44:53.500 then they punted the ball to the city of

00:44:55.100 Dallas and so that's where we are now in

00:44:56.940 a separate lawsuit with the city of Dallas

00:44:58.900 who as you mentioned just continued to

00:45:00.960 issue this laundry list item after item

00:45:03.140 after item for the congregation to do and

00:45:05.860 because because my clients want to be good

00:45:07.980 neighbors and they want to resolve this

00:45:09.960 amicably they've met every single requirement

00:45:12.820 on that list over years now they have done

00:45:15.640 every single thing the city required and

00:45:17.760 ironically the last thing the city asked

00:45:19.800 of them was to get a parking variance and

00:45:22.060 so even though as we mentioned they they walk

00:45:24.040 on the Sabbath it's an equivalent of six

00:45:26.840 spots that they're looking for we still

00:45:29.600 went we still applied at the city's request

00:45:31.740 to get the variance and we're ultimately

00:45:33.440 denied so that's where first wait so the

00:45:36.160 city says you have to get one and then the

00:45:38.700 city won't give them one that's right

00:45:40.340 that's right okay it's it's bureaucracy at

00:45:43.300 its best but and why won't they give you

00:45:45.980 the variance well they really just listened

00:45:49.700 to the HOA the HOA showed up they took off

00:45:51.920 work four days to come to all of these

00:45:56.100 against our congregation and say we like

00:45:58.740 religious liberty but we don't want a 1.00

01:18:42.820 this phenomenon where the average person now has access to technology that allows them to take a head

01:18:59.980 uh manipulated images which to the naked eye are very hard to detect as fakes and so we just know

01:21:22.900 but we've yeah but we've had millions of years to come to that and we've had a shortage of food

01:23:36.560 pleasure points and those anxieties because facebook wants to keep you engaged on their site for as long

01:23:42.640 as possible and so that's a you know those technologies and that that that portrait of the inside of your head

01:23:50.060 that comes from data is just it leaves us tremendously vulnerable you brought something up in your book

01:25:12.780 of consent how much do we really understand about what we hand over to these companies when we click

01:25:26.320 they're long and i haven't met a single person who's ever read one of those we just we just click

01:29:44.800 a video where his lips are moving as if barack obama is uh is is actually talking um yet it's really just a

01:29:54.400 computer that's manipulating those images of his lips talking and then um and then there's the

01:30:00.000 possibility that we can that that a voice can be manipulated by artificial intelligence to then

01:30:05.820 say whatever we program it to say and in fact i recommend there's a pretty hilarious um public

01:30:13.040 service announcement uh that's done by jordan peele the comedian where he does this with barack obama where

01:30:19.220 he he he he barack obama looks like he's delivering a sermon about the dangers of deep fakes and and in

01:30:27.000 the middle of this uh video clip they then cut to the comedian jordan peele and we see that he's actually

01:30:34.400 impersonating obama and that obama isn't saying the things that we think that he's saying it's being said

01:30:39.900 by this kind of uh puppeteer um who's uh using obama as a ventriloquist and the dangers of that should be

01:30:48.140 obvious right right well and once you get the voice right which just voice uh duplication the the the

01:30:56.140 the ground that has been covered and how good it is from you know two years ago to today is remarkable

01:31:03.400 we're not far away from being able to recreate people's voices but when you watch that video the only

01:31:09.360 thing that's off is the voice once you get the voice you wouldn't you would swear that that was barack

01:31:16.140 obama right exactly and in the nature of our machines is that the more data we feed to them
