01:33:57.000 know, at the core of growth everywhere. If you look at the countries that don't have access to

01:34:02.780 energy, those are the poor countries. And the ones, you know, the United States, who uses the

01:34:07.920 most energy we do because that is what powers us quite literally. If you want to survive as

01:34:16.360 civilization, as a human, you need food, water, energy. It's almost as if our government for the

01:34:25.620 last 50 years has been against all of those things. We're stifling our farmers. We're roping

01:34:33.520 off all of our water um and we're we're killing ourselves on energy i'm so glad that we're

01:34:40.180 changing did you hear yesterday i had uh donald trump on and we were talking about um uh the meat

01:34:46.220 did you hear this i heard a little bit of it yeah okay so meat production he was on and i said mr

01:34:53.580 president i wasn't planning on talking about this but you've got us you've got to break the back of

01:34:57.640 those four meat packing plants you got to make it easy for ranchers and communities to build their

01:35:39.460 And this has really been a long term push by big corporations to consolidate power, because it's much easier if you are a lobbyist, you're a politician to go get money and support from one big entity than it is to from, you know, hundreds or thousands or tens of thousands of independent minded small businesses.

01:36:02.140 So there has been a clear movement to try to make it difficult for small businesses, which are the backbone of every country in the world, but particularly the United States.

01:36:14.660 It's 99.9 percent of all business entities.

01:36:18.480 But it's so difficult.

01:36:19.660 They put these regulations in place.

01:36:21.580 And we're not talking about regulations that would have beef be poisoned, but just simple things to be able to open, to operate.

01:36:35.420 I mean, why is it that, you know, and this is state level versus federal, but why isn't

01:36:39.540 there a huge push to get rid of workers' compensation insurance for people who sit at home working

01:38:48.740 and having the power and giving their cronies all of the benefits. And so it is frustrating because

01:38:54.420 everybody sees the problem, but those who are economically illiterate, they go in the wrong

01:39:00.540 direction. And so, you know, they're desperate and they believe, oh, there are unicorns. There

01:39:05.700 are things that, you know, have never worked in history, but it's going to work this time because

01:39:09.420 it's different. And so, you know, our education system, which obviously has intentionally been

01:39:14.980 set up this way to make everybody economically illiterate so they don't fight it. But, you know,

01:39:20.500 theoretically, that's where everybody should be learning this stuff and understanding just basic

01:39:25.460 economic common sense. So I want to take a quick break and I want to come back. I want to talk to

01:41:23.600 tired of hearing about, you know, it's affordability. No, it's not. Price of a burrito.

01:41:29.100 For the love of God, let's just talk about how to fix it instead of admiring the problem or accusing whose fault it is or what the problem is.

01:41:37.240 There is an affordability problem.

01:41:39.440 Everybody feels it.

01:41:40.400 One way or another, you feel it.

01:41:42.080 So let's take some low-hanging fruit.

01:41:44.140 Let's start with education.

01:41:45.480 What could the president do that would actually impact Americans' lives?

01:41:49.700 All right.

01:41:50.040 So obviously among the most desperate people in this country right now are young people.

01:41:54.500 And I say this without hyperbole, Glenn.

01:41:56.580 the U.S. government is the largest predatory lender in the world. They go after teenagers.

01:42:03.420 They go after people who aren't old enough to vote or drink alcohol. And they enable

01:42:09.080 the saddling of, you know, tens of thousands, sometimes hundreds of thousands of dollars of

01:42:14.900 debt and transfer wealth wholesale from these young people to college administrators. And the

01:42:22.280 reason is because the government is now in the middle of student lending. They're doing no

01:42:27.960 underwriting. Every other debt in the world is underwritten. You know, how much can you pay?

01:42:32.120 How much do you make? What's the assets that underlie this? There's no underwriting. There's

01:42:36.300 no, are you studying feminism? Are you studying STEM? How much are you going to make when you get

01:42:40.500 out? There's no process. And in doing that, it means that there's all this money available for

01:42:45.560 colleges to continue to charge whatever it is that they want and not deliver a return on

01:42:51.760 investment to their students. I mean, you have very averagely ranked schools that cost multiple

01:42:57.780 hundreds of thousands of dollars to get a four-year degree. I'm sorry most people aren't

01:43:02.560 getting a return on that. So the way that we fix this is we get the government out of student

01:43:08.180 lending. We make it go back to an underwriting process. And on top of that, you require colleges

01:43:14.560 to be on the hook for at least a portion of it. If you're going to sell that you need to come to

01:43:19.480 our school so that you can get a better job. That needs to prove out. Otherwise, you're on the hook

01:43:24.180 for part of it. And I make it eligible for the bankruptcy process, just like other personal

01:43:29.100 debts. Now, that's for obviously new loans. For existing loans, we have been generating crazy

01:43:36.400 interest payments off of all of these kids for a long time. So I think that there's, you know,

01:43:41.680 many of them are just paying interest only. Their principal isn't going down. They're like,

01:43:46.180 I paid hundreds of thousands of dollars. How come my balance isn't going down? We need to look at

01:43:51.640 that. And if they've paid in a lot of interest, we need to rejigger that and say, OK, we should

01:43:57.840 have counted proportion of this towards your principal and we should rejigger what the interest

01:44:03.340 rates are. And colleges, by the way, should be on the hook for part of this as well, because if they

01:44:08.300 want to have nonprofit standing, if they want to be able to have these big endowments and do what

01:44:13.420 they want then they need to be on the hook for what they've created let me let me ask you something

01:44:19.480 here carol i never thought of student who's getting all that interest is the federal government

01:44:25.920 getting the interest of course we are oh my god like 80 billion dollars a year yeah oh my gosh

01:44:32.440 what a racket what an unbelievable racket i had never thought of that until you just said that

01:44:38.900 Oh, my gosh. And so, you know, we don't wait. So we don't want other people to be on the hook.

01:44:45.200 We don't want to forgive the loans. But could we refinance? Could we rejigger? Could we give

01:44:51.160 some partial credit? And then you say, well, what about the people who already paid them off? Well,

01:44:54.920 if you're not somebody who paid interest only for 20 years and you paid it off, then this doesn't

01:44:58.820 apply to you. So you're not at a disadvantage. But this would be so easy. It would have been

01:45:03.920 the lowest hanging fruit and still is for the president to address young people and say this

01:45:09.920 isn't fair, go after the colleges, which we know are just absolutely extorting young people,

01:45:16.200 not to mention turning them into commies in many cases, and to just completely change the equation

01:45:23.980 for young people. And this is something that could be done quickly, because that's the issue.

01:45:28.700 Some of this stuff is long term, but we're talking about what's the low hanging fruit,

01:45:32.120 what's something you could do today. It would impact young people. And then if you're a young

01:45:37.160 person and you don't have all of this crazy debt, you're in a better position to buy a house.

01:45:41.800 You're in a better position to, you know, not feel like, you know, you can't start a family. I mean,

01:45:47.040 it changes the tenor of everything if we change the financial balance sheets of people when they're

01:45:53.300 young, Americans when they're young. So I think that this is a very obvious thing. And if I was,

01:45:58.140 you know, advising the president, this would be the very first thing I would have him do.

01:46:02.120 Would you do me a favor? Would you write a one-page, easy-to-understand elevator pitch on that for me?

01:46:10.040 I'll give it to the president. I think this is good.

01:46:36.280 Part of the reason everything is locked up in the housing market is people have 3% interest rates, and they don't want to give them up.

01:46:43.760 So if somebody can come in and assume that, why would a bank want to do that?

01:46:48.240 Well, if the whole industry is locked up, you're not generating any new business anyway.

01:46:52.400 but the prices of the houses have gone up. So you could get a right of first refusal on the bridge

01:46:57.380 financing, and then you would make more on that bridge, but it would open up the market and you

01:47:02.800 would get more business. And plus, we've bailed out the banks many times before. So doing a solid

01:47:08.000 here isn't that much of an ask. But that would be a clear way to make things more affordable

01:47:13.360 for young people. Hey, this house has a 3% mortgage, at least on half of it. And that's

01:47:18.420 going to bring down my interest rate and make it more affordable that's brilliant tell me give me

01:47:24.140 give me something on because i think this is state local and federal the regulations to build a house

01:52:10.960 of a sudden your truck slows down to about 20 miles an hour or even less in some instances

01:52:14.720 and there's nothing you can do to speed it up again. That's this derainment issue and it's

01:52:21.260 happening to truckers, to farmers, to ranchers all across the country. Anyone who drives a diesel

01:52:26.620 vehicle which requires this additive that you just were talking about this diesel exhaust fluid

01:52:38.080 automatically slows down and it won't come back until you fix the issue and so the sudden speed

01:53:41.600 imagine. So we leaned in, started talking to headquarters. Administrator Zeldin was already

01:53:48.240 working on this. The president was already in tune on this. And so over the course of the past

01:53:55.400 year, we've been making some adjustments, but none bigger than the announcement that we came

01:54:01.580 out with just a few weeks ago. And that is that we have a proposed rule that would completely

01:54:06.860 eliminate the derapement system in the DEF engines on these diesel vehicles. So this is a

01:54:16.940 win-win for the American economy. It is President Trump and Administrator Zeldin listening, but also

01:54:23.800 delivering for the American people. What a novel concept. But that's exactly how, as you know very

01:54:29.560 well, our Trump administration functions. We listen, Glenn, and we deliver. So am I going to

01:54:36.420 be able to take that system and rip it out of my car or not, my truck? What does it mean?

01:54:43.580 Because that is freedom to fix. So if you already have a vehicle, the answer is yes. And you can
