00:01:27.600 the fusion of entertainment and enlightenment

00:01:47.680 the numbers are beyond horrific every day in the united states 100 people are killed with guns and hundreds

00:01:57.280 more are shot or injured nearly two-thirds of all yearly gun deaths in the country

00:02:04.080 are suicides including a thousand children and teens gun violence claims over 1500 lives a year

00:02:13.440 gun suicides 63 of all firearm deaths something must be done

00:02:19.920 i'll wait until you hear who wrote this oh it's gonna make you really really happy uh let's just say uh

00:02:29.120 i'll give you a hint this is from a political party they just sent it out to all their supporters

00:02:38.480 which political party do you think did it in 60 seconds this is the glenbeck program

00:02:45.920 i've been talking to you a few weeks now about uh the clues the cruise through history that we're

00:02:52.000 taking next uh spring and i'm more excited about it today than i was when we first started because

00:02:58.480 not only going to be spending time in italy greece croatia israel learning about the history of the

00:03:02.960 republic and what makes america so unique uh in the world not only going to be learning from david

00:03:09.040 lapin i mean sorry david barton rabbi lapin bill o'reilly and others on this cruise but as of

00:03:15.920 yesterday stew and i hatched a plan yes we're taking this cruise to the next level we are thinking

00:03:23.280 since we're going to israel anyway uh that's palestine to you know any leftists in the audience

00:03:31.120 we might as well drop by and see rashida talib's dear old grandma yeah i mean have some have some maybe a

00:03:37.360 a nice a nice hot meal yeah cookies and milk or something we thought maybe we would bring a

00:03:41.680 package from rashida in uh to her grandmother in israel but we thought that might get us banned

00:03:46.960 yeah if she wanted us to bring something it might sound

00:03:54.080 anyway tickets are almost sold out on this cruise but if you order them this week this week only you're

00:04:01.680 gonna get 200 worth of ships credit uh 200 ships credit this week only visit uh cruise through

00:04:08.800 history did anybody give you a package at the airport to bring to palestine

00:04:18.160 yeah only one person i why do you ask visit comesailaway.com comesailaway.com do it now for all of the details

00:04:31.680 the numbers are beyond horrific every day in the united states 100 people are killed with guns

00:04:48.640 and hundreds more are shot and injured is that true hundreds hundreds of people are shot and injured

00:04:53.760 by caught by guns every day in america is that true hundreds well i mean you have what 40 000 deaths

00:05:02.880 per year from guns um so yeah i guess i guess it would have that that you know of course it just means

00:05:08.720 um uh that also includes suicides and all the you know game related and everything over a hundred of

00:05:14.320 just just deaths so it's probably true you know we should probably separate these out from violent

00:05:19.440 criminal kind of things you know what i mean oh yeah these like these death numbers include like

00:05:24.720 a guy you know about to assault you know slit a woman's throat and a police officer shoots them

00:05:30.800 like that's included in that number right like there's a lot of these are just you know we separate

00:05:34.880 those out let's just have a separate amount because i mean you know one of the main things here

00:05:38.720 well let me just get back to this one of the main things is the next line nearly two-thirds

00:05:43.600 of all yearly gun deaths in this country are suicides now do you really think that taking away

00:05:52.080 a gun by the way that's not an ar two-thirds of all of the gun related deaths two-thirds

00:06:00.800 are are suicides yeah and if you if you think that that is a gun problem you're going to have

00:06:08.000 to explain why countries like japan with no guns have a much higher suicide rate than us or russia

00:06:14.640 who has a gun ownership rate of one-tenth of the united states yet has a much higher

00:06:19.760 murder rate and a much higher suicide rate in pennsylvania gun violence claims over 1500 lives

00:06:25.840 every year with gun suicides comprising 63 of all firearms desks in pennsylvania 65 of veteran

00:06:33.760 suicides in our state involve a gun oh we should take our guns away from veterans 1.00

00:06:39.280 everyday total what an argument to make i know i mean yeah let's argue to the people who've been

00:06:44.000 defending our country that and who who have trained with these weapons and done everything that they

00:06:49.360 could to to just protect these liberties yeah let's take their guns away let's take veterans guns 0.99

00:06:54.720 away wow what a wonderful idea that is the everyday toll of gun violence in america is utterly heartbreaking

00:07:00.560 and this violence routinely shocks the collective soul of our nation we look for solutions to end

00:07:05.680 america's epidemic of gun violence one sure way to reduce firearms death is through the implementation

00:07:11.280 of red flag laws also known as extreme risk protection order laws to date these laws have

00:07:18.160 been enacted in 17 states and the district of columbia oh well then it's a good idea back on february 14th

00:07:24.400 there was a one-year anniversary of parkland blah blah blah blah blah blah my proposal senate bill 90

00:07:30.080 would allow our judges to temporarily remove firearms from people in crisis who pose an imminent threat

00:07:35.680 of harming themselves or others red flag laws now which party sent this out you're setting us up here

00:07:44.800 this is senator tom killian the ninth district uh in uh and a republican in pennsylvania sending to all of

00:07:54.480 his supporters republicans is this who you are i mean there's a lot of support for red flag laws among

00:08:02.720 republicans yeah well the second is good for you it's good for you you're not you are no longer you are no

00:08:09.120 longer a a constitutionalist you cannot consider yourself a small government constitutionalist if you

00:08:17.120 believe in in gun control and infringement we're not talking about look i have no problem if you are

00:08:28.000 deemed dangerous after you've had the chance to testify you are innocent until proven guilty we cannot

00:08:39.040 cross this line you are innocent until proven guilty the red flag law says some accuser can go

00:08:47.040 to court and say you know what they're very very dangerous they're very dangerous i've been look

00:08:54.720 i was married to them for a very long time and uh the threats oh you would not believe the threats

00:09:01.840 that they're making you don't think vengeance uh just just pettiness would get involved you don't

00:09:09.680 think that there's someone in your family perhaps perhaps not maybe you're lucky

00:09:13.840 i know in i know in my extended family i would not count it out that somebody in my extended family

00:09:24.400 or relations would say oh yeah yeah i was i was at a family reunion the guy's unstable oh he's

00:09:32.880 absolutely unstable you could have people sitting at this desk with you that would make claims like that

00:09:37.600 no i mean if you've ever been through a horrible divorce oh my god go back to uh you don't even

00:09:46.080 have to go you could go to one of the brothers or sisters or uncles or aunts or anybody else that just

00:09:51.440 was angry why was barack obama our president why well he won a senate race in illinois why did he win

00:09:57.600 the senate race in illinois well he was in a very tight race against jack jack i want to say jack ryan but

00:10:02.720 that's the character right yeah oh who's the guy i can't remember his name uh ryan was his last name

00:10:06.960 who went through a very nasty uh divorce with an actress uh who in the divorce uh proceedings uh

00:10:16.080 accused him of all sorts of crazy stuff that somehow barack obama's people got unsealed and then

00:10:21.760 eventually his opponent obama's opponent had to drop out of the race uh it is jack ryan thank you

00:10:27.840 does it does it end up to be true i you know after i don't think so uh you know obviously wasn't

00:10:34.400 there um uh and afterwards you know after the divorce happened they there was a a cooling off

00:10:41.200 period and oh well he's not that person so you're going through a divorce this happens all the time

00:10:47.120 your husband loves guns loves guns and you want to bilk him for everything every penny he's got

00:10:57.840 okay that's not an unheard of uh uh scenario and because you're you're being pushed by the

00:11:05.760 attorneys you're angry whatever it is you're telling me that america you can't see a husband

00:11:13.520 or a wife doesn't matter yeah say you know what you're going to give this to me or i'm going to

00:11:21.360 talk about your guns it's objectively worse the other way right let's say a woman is maybe having an 0.98

00:11:27.440 affair and the guy's very angry about it and she has a gun to protect herself against an angry man

00:11:32.880 and the man goes and says you know what she's nuts she's been threatening people i think my children are 1.00

00:11:37.840 in danger go take her guns they go do that then she's vulnerable from him right i mean it is it's it's

00:11:45.120 a terrible thing and we've tried this red flag law thing out recently uh on another issue it's called

00:11:51.040 me too accusations uh we've where we've just been like you know what yeah yeah just take all their

00:11:56.160 power away take their jobs away throw them out of society and then we'll figure out whether they 0.99

00:11:59.440 actually did it or not but then this what makes this worse is that's not involving the government or

00:12:06.160 the court system right that's just public opinion this is public opinion that's bad enough this one is

00:12:10.960 saying no we deem you guilty before you even have a chance to answer the charge yeah and it's it's

00:12:19.280 and your reputation being of high quality is not a constitutional right people can say all they have

00:12:26.640 all sorts of terrible opinions about you i don't know if you've noticed that some people have terrible

00:12:30.160 opinions about you even glenn wait well it's true um but you know constitutional right is your right to

00:12:35.840 bear arms so we're taking away a constitutionally guaranteed thing with no i mean because like red 1.00

00:12:41.200 flag laws already exist red flag laws are when you go and you say hey you know we need to get this

00:12:47.840 person is really erratic and he's acting and we need to have him committed right involuntary commitment

00:12:55.120 these things already exist the only thing that the new brand of red flag laws does is it makes it so

00:13:01.760 they take the guns before they figure it out yeah right like this is like i don't know if he's crazy

00:13:06.880 let's just take the guns and then we'll figure it out and see if it's true that is crazy upside down

00:13:12.400 that is craziness that is against everything we stand for this is that you remember you're taking away

00:13:19.040 a person's right to be innocent before guilty you what you're doing is you're starting down this slippery

00:13:30.960 slope that look things happen so we've got it we're gonna look at you as guilty and everybody

00:13:37.040 will know you're guilty and we're gonna take your guns and good luck getting them back by the way

00:13:42.000 we're gonna take your guns but if you prove yourself to be responsible excuse me this is this is

00:13:51.120 i personally i think that is civil war i think these red flag laws are very popular though i mean

00:14:00.080 they well then maybe not very well then maybe not i don't think people understand exactly what they are

00:14:05.040 i don't think so either you know and it's like you know you have a a situation where

00:14:10.320 this the research on the red flag laws where they've been implemented shows no effect on homicide rate

00:14:14.880 it shows a very slight effect on suicide rate um and we've seen you know some of these states

00:14:21.600 we're talking about a third of cases are later found out to be frivolous a third you're taking

00:14:28.960 away the constitutional right from a third of the people you're accusing you can't do that that is not

00:14:34.960 an american principle whatsoever i know we really like we all have these people around us that are like

00:14:40.320 oh man i that guy seems dangerous this is why most of those people don't go out and shoot people

00:14:45.120 this is why i am not for the death penalty it's not because of life innocent life i'm opposed to taking

00:14:53.440 innocent life and that is why i'm i'm torn on the death penalty but if finally come down on

00:14:59.920 the death penalty i'm against it because we can make mistakes and i don't want to be responsible for

00:15:06.800 taking innocent life so put them in jail stop all this nonsense of you know racking everything up 0.59

00:15:16.640 if you're going to do it then do it but you better make sure you're right you want to execute somebody 0.67

00:15:22.400 look how many people just from dna tests now we may get to a point to where you got it because

00:15:27.120 everything's on camera everything's but then you've got deep fakes are you are you sure you don't want to

00:15:34.720 put an innocent man to death you don't want an innocent man in jail you're going to destroy people

00:15:43.600 just on what one person or one side of an opinion there's two sides and we must have the the uh

00:15:53.920 presumption of innocence for american citizens not the presumption of guilt that is what leads to

00:16:04.080 stalin nazis musolini mao whoever you want when they can scoop you up or take your stuff or you

00:16:12.960 lose your job through a court system that says yeah well we're gonna we will get back to you we'll we'll

00:16:21.120 fix your life if we were wrong really where do you go where do you go after the after the sheriff or the

00:16:28.480 fbi are at the front of your house taking out your stuff because you've been deemed unstable where do

00:16:36.240 you go to get that reputation back where do you go in this time where there is no forgetting because

00:16:42.960 of the internet where do you go when you when you go in for a job interview and they google your name oh

00:16:49.280 and they see the pictures of the guns leaving your house because you might be unstable where do you go to

00:16:55.760 get that erased where really not good america really not good there's there should be no

00:17:08.080 waffling on this you either believe in the second amendment or you do not

00:17:14.720 all right uh life lock sometimes you're sitting in an airport you're bored out of your skull waiting

00:17:20.000 for your flight and now you look down you're like geez i'm going to be really bored if i don't charge

00:18:51.920 so uh the washington post has just written an article anthony scarmucci and the nine biggest 180s

00:18:58.240 on trump ranked uh number 10 is scarmucci i think uh number nine is ann coulter

00:19:06.800 now this is yeah because she's a she's the roof the i was for him now i'm against him yeah no no

00:19:11.600 she wrote a book in trump we trust okay and you know what i think he's been pretty decent on the

00:19:18.160 border he had been great and he hasn't you know done the border wall but he's i think he's tried

00:19:24.480 she reportedly at least co-wrote his initial border proposal so she's very tied into the details of

00:19:32.080 that uh and so she's maybe not uh excited that the the wall has not been able to get that across

00:19:38.080 the finish line well she says he deserves to lose re-election okay uh mike pompeo is uh is the next

00:19:45.120 one jason chaffetz is number seven coming in at number six mick mulvaney number five andrew napolitano

00:19:52.240 i didn't know that because he was very anti-trump wasn't he he's a libertarian right so he's not

00:19:56.880 going to like the the executive sort of actions but i have not heard him to flip on that i mean he's

00:20:02.720 not has he changed that oh actually no he's gotten worse oh i think he's gotten worse uh once purveyor

00:20:10.880 deep sea he recently accused trump of unleashing a torrent of hatred in a foxnews.com op-ed trump

00:20:19.520 claims this is because he declined to nominate napolitano for supreme court that's uh then

00:20:24.720 anthony scarmucci numbers coming in at number three glenn beck hey listen you did well on the list

00:20:33.120 or did i there's no this is no way to win on either in either direction no you don't win in

00:20:39.440 either direction no however if you remember right it was just i was only saying things because i was

00:20:44.160 failing yeah it's weird how that's happened yeah now now you're now uh glenn beck staked out this

00:20:50.960 is from the washington post glenn beck staked out principal ground against someone i love this

00:20:56.080 really now retroactive admiration where where was the principal ground support of glenn beck in 2016

00:21:02.640 for these people none uh as someone who said quote he could be one of the most dangerous presidents to

00:21:08.640 ever come in the oval office end quote yeah he could have been he hasn't been he wow he could

00:21:16.960 be in the future but he hasn't been uh you know when when we had no evidence of what he would do

00:21:24.800 in office uh yeah he could have been i was very nervous based on his past performance he hasn't been

00:21:34.000 uh after trump's election he pulled out hitler comparisons saying he saw the seeds of what

00:21:39.760 happened in germany in 1933 still see them see them in the republican party see him in the democratic

00:21:44.880 party see them everywhere if you're not seeing fascism communism on the horizon uh well you're blind

00:21:52.800 you're blind you can go any way any direction with any of these people they call every republican

00:21:59.200 uh hitler every day i know like that's a problem today even as trump has stoked racial divisions and

00:22:05.200 split the country in a way beck once decried no i still decry that i still think racial division

00:22:12.480 is really bad i still think the the way the president you know says things i'm like oh please don't

00:22:19.360 don't say please don't say that but look at the media trump is the one doing it i know when

00:22:27.200 when you're calling literally every one of his supporters if they support him a racist yeah

00:22:31.840 who's stoking racist divides that's incredible uh beck now says if trump loses in 2020 i think we're

00:22:39.440 officially at the end of the country as we know it yes yeah have you looked at the other side

00:22:48.400 have you looked at who the the democrats are running yeah i think when they say yeah we're going to get

00:22:54.800 rid of the free market system you know and i'll just do executive orders on the constitution sounds

00:23:00.720 like the end of the republic to me you're listening to glenn beck all right hex chair so you're sitting

00:25:26.080 welcome to mr pat gray the host of unleashed uh and you can hear that podcast wherever you get

00:25:37.040 podcasts really really great almost sounds like you added an exclamation mark to it i didn't though i

00:25:42.400 don't believe in exclamation marks all right did you have you i told you a story about the queen queen

00:25:46.320 elizabeth and exclamation mark i don't think so okay so the the um uh the letter from queen elizabeth this

00:25:54.400 one uh just sold at auction it sold for it was it became one of the most expensive letters ever sold

00:26:00.960 from anything she's ever written okay there's really nothing in the letter except an exclamation

00:26:07.680 point and she never uses them or something never really she's on record saying i hate them there is

00:26:14.000 no reason to ever use an exclamation point there is nothing that important that has to be written

00:26:21.440 that uses an exclamation point she's never used them except this one time and what did she feel

00:26:28.800 so strongly about that the um uh that the crisis in her family uh because of the press with diana

00:26:39.280 was almost too much to bear exclamation point oh wow yeah uh and so it sold but it didn't sell for

00:26:46.880 that it didn't sell for what she was no just the exclamation point and that nuts yeah imagine being

00:26:52.640 that uh stayed your whole life that you're yeah she's and let's not let's not let's not raise our 0.87

00:26:59.840 voices she doesn't seem like that in as presented in the crown you've seen you've watched that haven't

00:27:05.680 you love the crown i love it too and they've been waiting forever now i've forgotten completely what was

00:27:10.000 going on i know i know it's been 18 years since the last episode i know uh hey mind hunter is back on

00:27:15.360 if anybody was watching mind hunter the fbi story we have to get that guy back on it's a fascinating

00:27:21.040 story pat um but it's it's a it's a true story about the guy who first started interviewing serial

00:27:26.800 killers oh and the fbi nobody wanted to do it they're like you're just trying to make excuses

00:27:31.440 he's like no i'm trying to understand them because this is a new phenomenon uh and uh i think the the

00:27:38.800 episodes ended with him like having a nervous breakdown and we talked to the guy and he was like

00:27:43.120 yeah i did oh wow and you i mean so it's a true story it's a true story it's a true story yeah the

00:27:48.480 guy is fascinating is it netflix or amazon i don't know i think it's netflix okay all right i'm gonna

00:27:53.840 look for it okay uh let me give you a letter and i'd like to see your opinion on this okay okay uh

00:27:59.200 this comes in from a um this comes in from a listener dear mr beck i have watched and listened to you

00:28:05.120 for years and you've always owned the bad that you did and you changed so i believe you hear you

00:28:13.440 deserve to hear the truth i was a skinhead for many years oh boy not a good start and not a good start

00:28:22.560 but if there's a but there i i was always racist until i began to travel abroad that's amazing what

00:28:31.120 happens when you start to i don't get out and see other things so here we go uh you need to know

00:28:38.080 that the alt-right does not love trump in fact he's despised for his love of the jews

00:28:47.120 they are using what a freaking weird world we know isn't it i know um they are using him because he

00:28:54.080 isn't racist but as the media keeps bashing him and calling him and all of his supporters racist

00:29:01.600 they are destroying the stigma of him him being labeled a racist so now they're essentially losing

00:29:09.360 taking the power and removing or taking the word and removing its power correct calling someone a

00:29:14.400 racist no longer means anything correct so now when you get a real candidate for the alt-right and they

00:29:21.520 scream he's a racist it won't mean anything the media is the alt-right's best weapon i can tell

00:29:29.360 you more later if you wish to talk i know you're not a racist or a hater the only reason i tell you

00:29:34.480 is my love for country and i'm afraid war is coming this is from a guy who's in the skin i don't think

00:29:40.960 they're afraid of a lot hmm it's an interesting point because you know you're able to they're able to

00:29:49.360 make like let's say the alt-right or one of these actual white supremacist groups which you know we

00:29:53.360 do know are low in numbers overall but still it's a it's a it's a poisonous ideology but if you're able

00:29:59.760 to actually go online and convince regular people that aren't racist that these racist accusations are

00:30:07.440 not just non-stop bs you know it's going to be it's going to be a recruitment tool so basically they're

00:30:14.000 saying the media is helping recruit people into the alt-right and to these organizations or or at

00:30:20.480 least uh making the blurring the lines so much between real racism and real racist and you know

00:30:27.840 trump supporters that you don't you don't know you don't care you don't even look yeah and i'm

00:30:34.720 fascinated by this from a political at the political level it's like we talked about this a little bit i

00:30:40.160 think uh maybe on the news and why yesterday but there is you know hillary clinton did the whole 1.00

00:30:44.480 deplorable speech and she made this big speech and we remember it as oh my gosh well she's calling all

00:30:51.520 the trump supporters deplorables that is not what she was doing she was actually talking to a democratic

00:30:56.880 audience and saying to democrats hey i know you think everyone who could vote for donald trump

00:31:01.520 is evil you know but you know there's a bunch of them that are in this basket of deplorables and a bunch

00:31:06.080 of them are really bad but there's some that might vote for us and are actually normal people who are

00:31:11.440 just worrying about the state of the economy blah blah blah her point was let's separate those

00:31:15.920 republicans into two groups the evil ones and uh the good ones right now obviously we disagree with

00:31:22.080 her analysis on this situation okay there's a needs to be said however what the democrats are doing 0.97

00:31:27.280 now is saying don't separate them anymore they're all evil they're all racist that's because the gop

00:31:32.720 also didn't do that to hurt hillary clinton you had to say you had to create the image that she was

00:31:38.560 saying all people on donald trump's uh uh on donald trump's side are deplorable but like both of these

00:31:45.600 sides do these things for political reasons at some level hillary was doing it probably she probably does 1.00

00:31:49.760 believe everybody on the right is is evil but she was doing it because she wanted to try to attract

00:31:54.160 center-right voters right she was probably noticing that uh you know we're losing a lot of the democratic

00:31:59.760 support in places to donald trump remember a third of those who who voted for donald trump

00:32:05.760 or about 20 who voted for donald trump voted for barack obama the i think what's interesting here

00:32:12.560 though is that the lesson learned from that speech from the deplorables moment uh from the democrats is

00:32:20.160 we didn't call enough of the people racists we didn't call enough of them deplorables the problem 0.96

00:32:24.400 was we only half-assed it we only called half of them racists we should have called them all racists

00:32:28.560 and that's what they're doing now if that's the lesson they're taking from this how are they

00:32:31.920 possibly going to win this election right like i mean let's hope they're not exactly right like it's

00:32:36.320 it's such a terrible strategy just from a political onlooker standpoint i mean i you know take out who

00:32:44.320 you think should win if you're the coach of this team trying to make the democrats win why on earth would

00:32:50.240 you be spending all of your time calling all the voters for the other guy racist after you lost the

00:32:55.200 election possibly because of the that river these are the three states pennsylvania wisconsin michigan

00:33:01.280 these states were states that were right in the middle of that battle these are the people they

00:33:06.000 were calling all all these evil white blue collar people who just were racist and then they were

00:33:10.880 considering trump because they were racist hillary's point was no well they're not they're doing it

00:33:15.120 because of economic instability and and worry and their point now is no no they actually were all

00:33:21.040 racist and that's why they did it let's call them racist publicly and that'll work but they'll can

00:33:25.120 they'll vote for us when we convince them that they're racists like that's an insane strategy because

00:33:30.320 the but the strategy now is um i don't have to be for anything really i just have to be against the right

00:33:38.240 person or the right thing i have to have i have to wear my virtue as a badge and so i i come in and i

00:33:47.920 say i'm against the evil orange man and that's enough for a good number of people it's not i

00:33:54.960 don't think it's enough to win an election is it enough to win over the people that cost you the

00:33:59.520 election last time i don't think so i don't think does anyone get won over by being called a racist

00:34:04.480 enough times they're like gosh you know what ah that's me they got me uh you know what i'm gonna

00:34:11.200 change and vote for the other side this time you know this they've convinced me that's not gonna work

00:34:15.280 i am evil i do hate poor people that's not gonna wow you know what is gonna work i think for like 0.87

00:34:19.920 joe biden is his wife telling everybody yeah the other candidates are probably a lot better on just

00:34:25.840 about everything but i didn't see this i don't even like my husband that much is that no but it was

00:34:32.080 between him and a wino and those are the only offers i had so i went with joe i went with middle

00:34:38.560 class joe the other guy was lower class i so yeah you gotta do it right you gotta pull the

00:34:46.720 lever for him interesting strategic decision i didn't hear jill biden thing no it wasn't quite

00:34:52.160 that bad but almost do we do we have the audio we have it here it is not all of you are committed to

00:34:57.680 my husband um and i respect that your candidate might be better on i don't know health care than joe is

00:35:05.840 right but you've got to look at who's gonna win this election yeah and maybe you have to swallow

00:35:10.880 a little bit and say okay i personally like so and so better but your bottom line has to be that we

00:35:19.280 have to beat trump i mean that's bad i mean to me that's bad if that's the best your wife could do

00:35:25.200 hey honey i'd like you to go home and rest maybe until 2022 if you will please i don't think you need to

00:35:34.480 be out there on the campaign trail it's just too hard and arduous for you so uh is this the wow this

00:35:40.480 is essentially a paraphrase of the speech jill got on her wedding night like from her mom she's like

00:35:45.680 look there's a lot of other guys out there and they're better they're much better they might be

00:35:50.320 better looking they might be nicer they might be a richer respectful let's not let's not let's not

00:35:55.760 let's let's not quote jill and let's just move on from that scenario am i the only one that saw

00:36:04.320 saw that what she said no i i yes i mean i don't she's play it again please

00:36:12.720 i know that not all of you are committed to my husband okay yeah um and i respect that your candidate

00:36:19.760 might be better on i don't know health care than joe is but you've got to look at who's going to win

00:36:25.440 this election and maybe you have to swallow a little bit and say okay i sort of personally

00:36:31.200 like so it's so better just saying but your bottom line has to be that we have to be i think we should

00:36:38.400 move on from here i think we should move on from here okay i'm sorry i didn't notice that the first

00:36:45.680 time i was trying to ignore it yeah i was too until he brought up that's what his wife said

00:36:51.040 that's what his wife was told by his mom on the wedding night no yeah blame that on me yeah yeah

00:36:55.040 you should blame this whole thing on me that's that's i blame it on you and i blame it on those 0.92

00:36:59.840 damn weapons of war that's what i blame it on thank you very much pat thank you thank you very much all 0.96

00:37:07.280 right this is wrong um there are a few things that can ruin your day more quickly 0.99

00:37:14.400 than a check engine light you're driving down the road you're singing along with the radio you know

00:37:18.800 people are looking at you you don't notice them because you're just blasting and blaring it out

00:37:23.200 when all of a sudden there it is the first sign that you get that maybe something very expensive

00:37:29.120 is coming your way that is why i have car shield i hate worrying about everything associated with car

00:37:35.040 repairs i just want my car to work have you ever done that just brought it to a mechanic and just

00:37:39.120 can you just make it run i just just make it work please it's all i want is that too much to ask

00:37:45.840 the downtime the inconvenience and the money car shield makes the process of fixing your car for

00:37:50.880 a covered repair amazingly simple you can have the dealership do it i mean honestly the only reason

00:37:57.680 why we have our favorite mechanic is because it's cheaper right it's cheaper uh but why not have the

00:38:04.640 mechanic at the dealership do it if you're not paying for it and put in all of the right parts

00:38:09.760 that you know they they weren't secondhand or whatever they're just the right parts do that

00:38:14.080 look you sometimes might have a mechanic that you know maybe doesn't do all the best work and maybe

00:38:19.600 maybe you know you don't like them very much and maybe they spit on you as you walk by but

00:38:22.800 sometimes you have to swallow a little bit and just go with them okay okay let's stop talking okay

00:38:29.200 they also provide 24 24 7 roadside assistance and a rental car while yours is being fixed this is not

00:38:36.320 healthy my mind is going in all wrong places today this is bad pray for me um you get all of this for

00:38:43.440 free with car shield carshield.com carshield.com 800 car 6000 800 car 6000 use the promo code beck you'll

00:39:42.720 you can go to glenn beck.com and uh grab your tickets uh i think there's a few floor seats left

00:39:49.680 uh and uh some in the upper balcony but it's going to be a great night a great night uh and i invite you

00:39:57.520 to uh to attend all right so we got that going for us glenn beck.com uh coming up we have um the guy

00:40:07.280 you know the guy who is the professor at harvard right or is it mit i think it's harvard um and he

00:40:13.840 is he is doing studies on google to see you know are they are they swaying elections at all

00:40:21.680 the answer he says is uh yeah and he's got evidence now vanity fair just took him apart

00:40:29.180 took him apart because donald trump just tweeted hey you know google is is is you know swaying

00:40:39.040 elections right now because donald trump got involved now he's the craziest man to ever live

00:40:44.680 uh even though he's not a donald trump supporter he voted for hillary clinton which i think gives him a

00:40:50.740 lot of credibility he doesn't have a horse in the race he's saying that we are on the verge of

00:40:56.860 losing our republic because free and fair elections are a thing of the past because of google manipulation

00:41:04.780 and uh we're going to ask him on because i want to i mean if if it's true what vanity fair says and i

00:41:11.500 don't know this but stew says uh because he's a he's a guy who really likes studies and stats and numbers

00:41:17.940 and everything else and if what vanity fair says is true oh it's a it's a crap heap of a study of

00:41:25.300 what vanity fair says is true i just don't i can't imagine i mean we've talked to him at length about

00:41:29.640 this stuff it's not like this guy doesn't have nuance and his understanding of how these things

00:41:33.740 work he explained he did an entire podcast with him right yeah yeah you know an hour where he was

00:41:38.720 describing the this research it's not as flippant as vanity fair makes it out but i want to ask him

00:41:43.620 these exact questions yeah so we get we get it from the horse's mouth and i also want to ask him

00:41:48.720 yesterday the google employees were um protesting and saying that google needed to stop working with

00:41:58.600 ice and border patrol well wait wait a minute what do they do i mean if they're providing cloud

00:42:06.160 service they do that for everybody but are they providing information are they is google in bed

00:42:13.920 with the government and working with ice it was if so yeah that should stop but we should also know

00:42:19.880 what they're doing how much information do you have who you giving it to google you're listening to glenn

00:42:26.580 back you know as crazy as they say that uh we should sleep at 80 degrees at night 82 degrees at night

00:42:46.460 and if you have nest and the government decides to say hey we've got an energy crisis here we have to

00:42:54.460 all work together your temperature is going to automatically go up to 82 i mean that is obviously

00:42:59.660 the risk of course you could always replace your nest if they started doing that but uh unless you

00:43:03.280 can't replace your nest well why wouldn't you be you you're going to be red flagged on nests oh okay

00:43:08.680 red flag less well look uh we have uh we're about to talk a little bit about google uh here in just a

00:43:14.500 moment with a professor who has done a lot of research on it apparently really terrible research

00:43:19.040 according to vanity fair yeah he did they did not like his research and if you want to go cranking the

00:43:23.860 cranking the crazy to 11 yeah and now look if you're looking for scientific analysis of a of a

00:43:30.180 peer-reviewed study what you want to do is go to vanity fair that's the place you're going to land

00:43:34.900 obviously as one of the most respected scientific journals in america yeah well i'm like i'm interested

00:43:39.500 to hear his answers on this they're making very specific accusations you know we are mostly known

00:43:43.720 we're not known for politics i mean yes we people know us for politics sure you know secondary

00:43:48.900 sarcasm and everything else but really this show is known for its uh for its science and science

00:43:54.520 standards are many many science documentaries uh and so we'll uh we'll get uh you know a little

00:44:01.840 little heavy-handed in the science here in just a second so uh coming up in just a second what is

00:44:07.300 happening at google election and more

00:44:10.180 the fusion of entertainment and enlightenment so several times we have had dr robert epstein on

00:44:31.680 uh he is a senior research psychologist american institute for behavioral research and technology

00:44:38.240 he's up at harvard isn't he still i can't remember i think it's harvard right yes so uh he's a guy who

00:44:45.600 was going to vote for hillary clinton may have voted for hillary clinton but was doing a study

00:44:50.660 to see is google is google swaying anyone is google doing anything that you wouldn't notice unless you

00:44:59.220 are really looking for it to sway the opinion of the american people his report is a little terrifying

00:45:05.880 and nobody paid attention to it until donald trump tweeted something about him and then now all the guns

00:45:12.400 are out uh it is i mean well let me give you the vanity fair article headline cranking the crazy to 11

00:45:21.180 huh google says uh or i mean uh trump says google will cost him 16 million votes we're going to talk

00:45:32.740 to the guy who did the study and is currently doing the study and i think his work is some of the most

00:45:37.440 important work out there vanity fair says it's garbage and if it is what vanity fair says it is

00:45:44.340 then it then it is garbage but somehow or another stew and i think that's not the way he did this 0.77

00:45:50.920 research so we'll let him speak for himself and tell you what's really going on with google in one

00:45:57.060 minute this is the glenbeck program

00:46:00.560 we used to live in a country with wide diversity of opinions yet we still had a basic set of shared

00:46:09.820 values uh we might not have had the same religion but we could agree that life was precious we might

00:46:15.900 not have long belonged to the same political party but we could agree government should be kept small

00:46:20.840 yeah those days are well behind us but that's why companies like patriot mobile are so important

00:46:28.120 patriot mobile is america's only conservative cell phone company it's run by patriots these are these

00:46:33.740 are guys who are veterans uh in our uh in our armed forces who believe in the good heart of this

00:46:39.780 country the way that you do that's why i and thousands of others have made the switch to patriot

00:46:46.020 mobile they're offering a special just for joining you can upgrade your phone to a brand new moto z3 play

00:46:52.100 for only five dollars a month that includes a six inch screen expandable storage high quality camera and so

00:47:03.520 month you're going to get the same great cell service not your money's not going to be going

00:47:07.640 to planned parenthood or la raza patriot mobile.com slash beck patriot mobile.com slash beck you get

00:47:15.600 the brand new moto z3 play today supplies are limited patriot mobile.com slash beck we have robert

00:47:24.600 we have robert epstein he is an author editor longtime psychology researcher and professor distinguished

00:47:31.160 scientist who is passionate about educating the public about advances in mental health and behavioral

00:47:36.560 sciences former editor-in-chief of psychology today he is now the senior research psychologist at the

00:47:44.060 american institute for behavioral research and technology and contributing editor for scientific

00:47:50.240 american mind yeah he sounds like a dope and turning the crazy level up to 10 dr robert epstein how are you sir 0.54

00:47:59.360 well it's been a rough couple days to be honest with you yeah so i mean here's a i mean here's a group 0.97

00:48:08.020 of people that you probably politically would agree with uh more than not uh you're getting trashed by the

00:48:15.400 person you voted for uh on twitter well i think hillary clinton should be ashamed of herself i mean you know

00:48:22.500 i i i i really just gotten caught in the crossfire uh here between uh trump and and hillary

00:48:30.080 uh uh and you know uh the president sometimes as you know his his tweets are not exactly entirely accurate

00:48:38.400 uh and and he did get a couple things slightly wrong when he tweeted about uh my testimony before congress

00:48:47.120 uh which was in july uh and so yeah i can tell you you know get what he did is slightly wrong but what hillary did

00:48:56.060 is reprehensible especially since i've been a strong supporter of the clintons for 20 years i mean i have a signed

00:49:02.860 letter from from bill uh up above my desk here uh wow and what she did is is it's shameful it's shameful 0.98

00:49:13.200 what did she what did she do what did she do well she was replying to to the president president uh

00:49:21.420 said that according to some guy you know some researcher uh google shifted between 2.6 and 16

00:49:30.700 million votes to me in 2016 well i'm the researcher yes i testified before the uh senate judiciary committee

00:49:38.800 uh in uh you know in july uh and uh yes i gave estimates of between 2.6 and 10.4 million not 16

00:49:48.980 million and also trump said that uh that that i said that google manipulated the election i didn't

00:49:56.760 have never said that i've said i found pro clinton bias in their search results sufficient

00:50:04.340 to impact undecided voters uh in a way that would shift that many votes i've never said they manipulated

00:50:13.620 the election i found what i measured was the bias which i mean was indisputable uh hillary replied to him

00:50:21.980 saying that study has been debunked which is absolutely false uh and then saying and and the whole study was based

00:50:31.420 on 21 voters what i actually studied what i actually captured and analyzed which no one has ever done

00:50:37.580 before is i i captured 13 207 election related searches on google bing and yahoo and the 98 000 web pages to

00:50:50.680 which the search results linked that's what allowed me to measure the bias that people were seeing in search

00:50:57.400 results and there was substantial bias in favor of clinton whom i supported uh in all 10 search

00:51:06.160 positions on the first page of google search results but not any bias in bing or yahoo so uh you know i found

00:51:17.220 the bias and now based on experiments that i've been doing for six and a half years i was able to estimate

00:51:25.100 with that level of bias how many votes could be shifted i know that from again extensive experimental

00:51:31.860 research which now has involved tens of thousands of participants five national elections in four

00:51:38.600 countries i know precisely uh how bias can shift opinions and votes and that's where i got you know

00:51:46.240 those numbers from so again trump got things slightly wrong but what hillary did was outrageous 1.00

00:51:53.380 my research has never been uh debunked uh at all uh and then this slew of stories that have turned up i mean

00:52:03.980 they're literally i'm not kidding you there are hundreds of them uh all over the world and a few

00:52:10.020 unconservative sources basically just kind of report the facts and then uh all the mainstream sources are

00:52:17.820 basically saying uh i'm incompetent which i've never been accused of being my whole career

00:52:24.160 uh that uh again this is my study was debunked etc etc i mean i mean it's it's terrifying that that

00:52:32.660 that you know there could be so much bad information out there this is me this is it is i i think this is

00:52:40.140 why we are uh things are slowing down not towards socialism uh not even towards nationalism those i

00:52:47.940 think are going to speed up still uh but the the mob mentality that you have to be all in on somebody

00:52:55.080 or you're a traitor i think that is actually starting to swing back to a normal kind of uh feeling

00:53:01.960 because average people are feeling what people like i have felt and others like tea party we have been

00:53:08.440 feeling this for about 10 years and it is terrifying me too it is a it's a a good goal it's a terrifying

00:53:19.220 um witch hunt and and you don't where do you go to get your reputation back bob where do you go i don't

00:53:28.140 know and you know you know and what i what i really accomplished in 2016 was setting up the first

00:53:33.900 ever monitoring system to see what big tech companies were showing people no one's ever done

00:53:40.320 that before because tech's power uh to shift opinions and votes and purchases and attitudes

00:53:46.620 and beliefs around the world derives from uh what they internally call ephemeral experiences like search

00:53:54.120 results they they're generated on the fly they have an impact on your thinking they disappear they're

00:53:59.960 gone they're not stored anywhere that's called an ephemeral experience that's what google google

00:54:04.440 people call it and it's extremely powerful in shifting votes and opinions i've shown in multiple

00:54:12.100 experiments and you know published in peer-reviewed journals you can easily shift 20 percent or more of

00:54:18.400 undecided voters up to 80 percent in some so how are they how how would they do that if they are doing

00:54:25.700 it how would that happen explain that to the the average person who has not heard this before

00:54:31.720 okay first of all it can happen just because they're not paying attention to their algorithm

00:54:37.600 and the and their algorithm of course always puts one dog food ahead of the other and you know one

00:54:44.040 vacation spot ahead of the other and one candidate ahead of the other it has no equal time rule built

00:54:50.880 into it and once it it puts one candidate ahead of the other then that starts to have a dramatic

00:54:57.280 impact on undecided voters and as more undecided voters shift the bias in search results gets stronger

00:55:06.440 that shifts more undecided voters etc etc it's a bandwagon effect what i call a digital bandwagon effect

00:55:14.320 and i've measured these things very precisely and again 2016 was a was a tremendous milestone year

00:55:21.300 for us because we actually built a nielsen type system to look over people's shoulders with their 0.87

00:55:28.580 permission and see what these companies were showing them then we built a bigger system in 2018

00:55:33.640 and in 2020 we're trying to raise money to build a much bigger monitoring system because you will never

00:55:41.160 know why the next presidential candidate wins unless there has been extensive monitoring of all this

00:55:49.800 ephemeral stuff news feeds email suppression shadow banning search suggestions search results etc etc

00:55:59.080 and i'm the only person in the world who's ever built such systems and we have to have these systems

00:56:05.540 or we will not understand what is going on and who why somebody won or lost an election

00:56:13.620 all right so so um dr robert epstein uh senior research psychologist american institute for behavior

00:56:20.320 research and technology he is uh talking about google and these algorithms that are changing the way

00:56:27.040 we behave the way we look the way we think uh all underground and how they have impact our elections

00:56:33.020 um is it my google research.com where people could donate if they wanted to donate yes and yes i'm glad and

00:56:41.500 you have been more helpful to me in that regard than just about anybody you've actually raised without

00:56:47.460 you knowing just because you keep giving out that link you've raised a lot of money well i i research i want

00:56:53.120 you to know that i believe this is one of the most important things that we can do you are you are

00:57:00.960 actually and i think you'll agree with this you're actually way behind where you should be but you're

00:57:06.220 you are light years ahead of anyone else on the planet would you agree with that

00:57:10.680 positively and i've been slaughtered now by mainstream media which is my media that's my media

00:57:19.580 i'm not a conservative this is an incredible story okay we have some some detailed questions and

00:57:26.140 then i want to talk to you a little bit about um uh what google may be doing um not only during this

00:57:33.420 election but also uh with ice we'll get into that i'd just like to pick your brain on on theories if you

00:57:39.680 had any um you can donate and i urge you i urge you in the strongest of terms if you have money that you

00:57:49.840 can donate five bucks or you know a hundred thousand dollars that you would consider this

00:57:56.400 uh project there is nothing more important than getting your arms around the algorithms at google

00:58:02.740 my google research.com my google research.com all right back in one minute

00:58:09.420 first let me ask you how many times does this happen to you that you know one day you notice your

00:58:18.160 blinds in your house look as look as though they have been used to stop hand grenades have you ever

00:58:23.920 looked at your blinds and went what happened there they're also the wrong color maybe they're that uh

00:58:30.060 maybe they're that just that beautiful beautiful olive i love those they were probably manufactured

00:58:37.100 in the nixon administration time to get rid of them do something smart call blinds.com very helpful

00:58:42.900 design consultant will help you pick out the best new blinds that you can imagine the process of

00:58:47.760 measuring your windows you know if you do that thing you accidentally you know read the metric

00:58:52.180 side of the tape yeah i know we were all supposed to learn it and then all of a sudden it was over

00:58:56.580 when your blinds come in and they're six inches short on either side well whose fault is it well it's

00:59:03.420 yours but that doesn't matter at blinds.com they're going to replace it for you at no charge it's one of

00:59:08.680 the many reasons why blinds.com i use them you should use them and they're the number one online

00:59:34.120 it's blinds.com promo code back we break for 10 seconds station id

00:59:38.940 every day it seems somebody pops up in my world like what dr robert epstein just said

01:00:00.160 this is wait they've turned the guns on me yeah and this is my side oh look at what they've turned

01:00:05.460 their guns on here peer review yeah now peer review doesn't matter i thought that was the

01:00:09.580 end all be all we're supposed to now peer review those studies they're gone how about um the fact

01:00:14.480 that all of a sudden we're supposed to trust gigantic companies making decisions for us i mean i thought

01:00:18.820 this was the exact opposite of what the left wanted you know what you want companies controlling all this

01:00:22.960 information well it benefits them in this particular moment ignoring peer review benefits them in this

01:00:28.300 particular moment so they'll take out a guy who voted for them which you know doesn't matter 0.95

01:00:33.420 doesn't matter doesn't matter apparently he's garbage now it's really horrible reprehensible i 0.93

01:00:38.200 urge you to donate at my google research.com okay um may i call you bob or robert 0.92

01:00:44.220 robert if you like sure robert um so robert we have some questions we we went through the vanity fair

01:00:52.080 article and if you read this article if that's the way you were doing the research it's crazy

01:00:56.800 it's crazy would you agree with that i i i did i can't even read these things there are hundreds

01:01:03.860 of them okay so we're gonna go through it piece by piece and you just tell us is this how you do it

01:01:09.260 if not tell us how you do do it go ahead the first accusation in here uh robert is they basically say

01:01:15.940 that the reason why you're going after google is because you have a vendetta against them because in

01:01:21.080 2012 they warned visitors to your website that it had been hacked and serving malware to people who

01:01:27.820 are reading it okay i have no vendetta against google i am probably google's biggest admirer in

01:01:34.820 the world i have friends at google uh yes i guess my website was hacked in 2012 as everyone's is

01:01:42.520 eventually uh and and i got notified of this by google and that caught my eye i said why is google

01:01:50.880 notifying me and not a government agency or a non-profit organization and then as a programmer i

01:01:57.100 got intrigued too because google was now blocking access to my website not just through google.com or

01:02:04.080 through chrome which they own but even through safari even through firefox which is you know a

01:02:08.820 non-profit run browser and i got curious but how is that happening how can that be how can google

01:02:15.240 block you through you know apple safari and so i started to kind of just look at google more seriously

01:02:21.780 i have no vendetta again so that's absurd and then later that year there was research uh the early

01:02:28.620 marketing research on the power of search rankings uh that the power that search rankings have to

01:02:34.260 influence people's clicks and purchases and that that made me think well if that's true

01:02:40.740 then maybe uh search results could be used to shift opinions or even shift voting preferences and so i

01:02:48.940 started my first series of experiments looking at that and it is it's not like it's not like you're

01:02:54.340 glenn beck doing this you are the former editor-in-chief of psychology today you are also the senior

01:03:01.400 research psychologist of the american institute for behavioral research and technology your job

01:03:07.680 revolves around how people make decisions and what causes people to behave in certain ways

01:03:14.600 so of course you would be curious about this of course you would investigate it because this is

01:03:20.120 probably i think in correct me if i'm if i'm wrong doctor but i believe that in maybe five years but in

01:03:27.400 the next 10 years we're going to have to have a serious discussion on on if you actually have free

01:03:34.820 will because of what they're doing in nudging and and how they will use and manipulate data

01:03:41.560 well we're we're past that uh glenn uh you know in in looking at at uh at hillary's uh horrendous

01:03:51.800 uh tweet uh attacking me and and telling blatant lies about me i mean we're way past that point of

01:03:59.820 of uh having any free will left because you have to understand hillary's tweet by understanding

01:04:05.140 how dependent she has been for years and years for votes and money from google google was her largest

01:04:13.180 uh donor her her her chief technology officer stephanie hannon was a former google executive i mean i

01:04:20.420 could go on and on and on and on about that relationship and she got that information that

01:04:25.020 she tweeted from google

01:04:27.320 wow that's a great point wow

01:04:33.640 it's a little a little circuitous there's a little bit of incestual feeling here to some of this um we

01:04:42.560 uh do you have a yes or no question we have about 35 40 seconds yeah i mean i don't think we can get

01:04:47.600 into any of those in 30 seconds okay so we want to get into more though a couple more and then i want

01:04:52.220 to ask you i don't know if you saw this that the the google employees yesterday they don't have a

01:04:56.640 problem with china apparently but google employees were protesting in front of google they want them

01:05:01.140 to stop helping and working with ice and the border patrol and my first question uh was

01:05:09.880 wait what is google doing with ice and are they providing information to the government

01:05:17.980 because i don't think that's kind of in the game plan for anybody is it

01:05:23.200 you're listening to glenn beck

01:05:27.500 american financing corporation nmls 182334 www.nmlsconsumeraccess.org

01:05:35.960 okay the most important thing you could do when you're thinking about financing or refinancing

01:05:39.480 is when you're picking a company to help you you have to ask are they are they in it for you are

01:05:45.540 they in it for them today's mortgage rates are very low and unfortunately there's a lot of mortgage

01:05:50.220 companies out there who would be more than happy to charge you up front fees reset you back to a 30

01:05:55.200 year term and take advantage of you by selling you something that you know might look good on the

01:06:01.240 on the surface but is not in your best interest not at american financing their mortgage consultants

01:06:07.200 are salary based which means they're in it for you they're trying to win it for you 10 minute phone

01:06:13.320 call can get you an assessment that may save you thousands of dollars over the course of your

01:06:17.700 mortgage and there's lots of good reasons besides just the current market to refinance now may be the

01:06:23.220 time to upgrade now now is the time to call american financing.net if you're a responsible

01:06:30.300 economically responsible individual you owe it to yourself to see how much money you can save

01:06:35.700 in refinancing 800-906-2440 american financing.net

01:06:41.440 go see glenn beck christmas stories in salt lake city december 7th at kingsbury hall

01:06:49.580 get all the ticket information at glenn beck.com

01:07:17.340 they'll take you to some socialist event oh yeah that's what all you know what that's what dr robert

01:07:21.920 you know that's what this research actually showed yeah you'll be like uh well it had a lot

01:07:26.420 of red on the page that's all i remember no no no that wasn't christmas that was communism

01:07:30.620 both start with c but different uh christmas stories with glenn beck uh happening in salt lake

01:07:42.380 going to be great um i'm really excited for it really excited yeah it's a lot of fun that's a

01:07:47.340 it's a really funny show uh and you know when you get to that point of you're in december the last

01:07:51.960 thing you want to do is think about politics i swear this is this is why the first tuesday in

01:07:56.620 november it's a good time for the election you get to get it over with you pass the election time and

01:08:01.480 then you get to launch yourself into the holidays and hopefully forget all the craziness going on

01:08:05.780 yeah food combos food yeah yeah we have kevin williamson coming up in uh just a second and uh

01:08:11.740 we we have dr robert epstein uh is is he back on the phone i know it's not yet okay well well he's

01:08:19.700 avoiding my my tough questions about his research he's like ah stew's gonna ask me tough questions

01:08:23.560 vanity fair is vanity fair explain what vanity fair said about him a couple different things they said

01:08:28.880 they were the ones that basically and they did this uh they cited tech crunch as the source of this

01:08:33.780 basically saying that he had a vendetta against google because they said something bad about his

01:08:38.300 website in 2012 which is a weird sort of vendetta they didn't even say something bad they just said

01:08:43.100 hey we think you might have malware and he was like oh that's interesting like how did they even know

01:08:47.060 that i should trace that back that's interesting to understand um which it is right like it's it's an

01:08:52.880 interesting thing to kind of look at and and understand especially if you're someone who i when i was

01:08:56.760 the editor-in-chief of psychology today how are these things happening you know and who are they

01:09:00.860 affecting and the way that i do believe he left out one part of the story which doesn't make it

01:09:04.640 make it you know worse for him uh makes it better for him i think uh but uh i think if i remember the

01:09:12.680 story right i think he was uh uh he had just spoken out about google and then it was like the next day

01:09:21.980 he was banned and he was kind of like huh how's that working how's that how's that working that would

01:09:29.060 reverse kind of the way that they had yeah uh yeah that they had been i'm not sure i presented

01:09:35.500 it in the vanity fair article so they made him look like he was uh he had a vendetta against google

01:09:41.120 uh i think his statement on hillary clinton who he's always spoken highly of on this program and

01:09:46.560 he was always i mean he voted for her yeah that sucks right you know because i mean you imagine that

01:09:52.100 it's not no surprise to me of course that hillary clinton would do such a thing but like this has

01:09:55.660 happened this has happened uh to uh people that i know and uh in uh conservative circles who might

01:10:01.340 be fans of bands uh that uh wind up making public statements against against them later on

01:10:06.780 it's a weird thing you've had that happened to friends of yours because i know i know you have

01:10:12.560 one friend that happened he may be very nearby me right now yeah but you know you think about that

01:10:17.460 like if you're an entertainer right you're you're a band you're a candidate trying to get people to vote

01:10:22.060 for you right and then you're coming out and just just you know basically i mean hillary clinton

01:10:26.340 obviously doesn't know the details of this research right like she probably has just googled it quickly

01:10:29.980 and saw a critical article and wants to make her little point against donald trump and she does it

01:10:34.420 at the expense of an individual who has been supporting her for 20 years yeah who has a letter

01:10:41.000 from her husband uh above above his desk in his office a person you know and this has happened like

01:10:47.720 the same thing has happened we had a guy we had a guy who worked for us here too as well who uh

01:10:52.060 um uh who loved a particular band and fought all the time to get them to get their music on the air

01:10:59.520 like bumpers and stuff because he just loved them and uh finally it got up on the air and um and then

01:11:06.580 they the band came out and like trashed yeah i would never have my music on glim it's like you have a

01:11:13.580 real fan here who supported you for a really long time who fought for your music to be heard by

01:11:18.240 millions there are only two celebrities that have never backed down michael buble yeah you know michael

01:11:24.580 buble actually came while i was on fox yeah i mean he took so much he got into a fist fight at a hockey

01:11:30.060 game over me he's like glenn i don't care about american politics i mean this is not my country i i'm but

01:11:36.400 i took one in the face for you um so michael buble and uh the other one that has been very surprising

01:11:44.660 to me i'm a huge fan of ricky gervais i think he is hysterical i think his writing is brilliant just

01:11:52.100 brilliant i don't agree with anything that he says politically you know i think uh i mean i know he's

01:11:59.900 he's for freedom of speech and freedom of expression yeah for sure you know he goes on you know

01:12:05.000 vegan rants and it's like okay okay okay uh and i've tweeted a couple of things about his shows and

01:12:12.400 and he'll get a lot of heat because he'll retweet and he'll and then he'll defend i don't care what

01:12:19.360 his political views are he thinks it's funny i mean there's very few people that are willing to do that

01:12:25.060 now yeah it is very rare because you're you're exposing yourself as not woke enough right you know

01:12:30.760 you can't do that in this society right today and it's kind of nice it's kind of it's really nice

01:12:35.360 to see that uh that uh courage okay so epstein is back on the phone with us doctor you there

01:12:42.640 oh boy hi there okay all right we thought google got you uh all right we have a couple just a real

01:12:49.680 couple questions from the vanity fair uh article just tell us where they have it wrong all right i'll

01:12:55.360 just read these to you tell me what what the story is where does epstein get his numbers talking

01:12:59.560 about the ones that the president tweeted this is a bit murky but a couple years ago he published a

01:13:03.620 paper showing that search results can bias decision making the limits of the paper are so breathtaking

01:13:08.660 that i'm not sure how you can draw any real world conclusions from it but basically he came to the

01:13:13.660 unsurprising conclusion that if you a give people a choice of two politicians they've never heard of

01:13:18.540 and b provide search results that are unanimously positive toward one and negative towards the other

01:13:23.700 then c they'll tend to support the person who got the positive results is that the limit of your

01:13:28.720 study is that how it worked of course not that's there i've conducted dozens of experiments like

01:13:35.900 this involving five national elections in four countries with tens of thousands of participants

01:13:41.120 and this goes beyond elections too what i've shown is when there is a bias in search results

01:13:48.760 toward any candidate or cause or company that shifts opinions and in the case of undecided voters

01:13:57.060 it shifts voting preferences and it's a very uh you know it's a highly predictable phenomenon

01:14:03.960 and it's something that i've yeah isn't this what cass sunstein wrote books about

01:14:09.020 nudge yeah yeah i mean this is this is it's nudging right right it's more it's more than nudging though

01:14:15.040 it turns out because when i first conducted experiments in this and like this i thought i could nudge and i

01:14:21.100 could get shifts in voting preferences of two or three percent which is a not much but right a lot 1.00

01:14:26.960 of elections are close so that could make a difference in very close elections first experiment

01:14:31.320 i ran i got a shift of 48 second experiment i got a shift of 63 and so on then i did national study in

01:14:39.100 the u.s a national study in india etc etc i did it with real voters in the middle of a real election in india

01:14:45.960 and these are humongous numbers and this kind of shifting is invisible to people

01:14:53.240 virtually no one can see the bias in search results so they they think they're making up their own

01:14:59.040 minds and the very few people who can see the bias they shift even farther in in the direction of the

01:15:05.760 bias wow this is and this leaves no paper trail because this is all ephemeral stuff you know as they

01:15:12.560 say internally at at uh at google when they're trying to you know talk about how they're going

01:15:18.060 to manipulate people this is all ephemeral so it leaves no paper trail for authorities to trace and

01:15:23.540 you can't go back in time and look at the search results and the search suggestions uh you know that

01:15:30.720 people have been shown yeah okay and one more here for you from the article of vanity fair uh saying

01:15:37.200 epstein presented another study in which he argued that google's algorithms are biased because their

01:15:43.260 search results are dominated by news from mainstream outlets like the new york times and los angeles times

01:15:47.460 rather than conservative sites like breitbart using this theory uh epstein newly uh tracked excuse me

01:15:54.540 47 300 searches by dozens of undecided voters in the districts of newly elected democratic representatives

01:16:00.880 and then claimed that an estimated 35 455 voters who were on the fence were persuaded to vote for a

01:16:06.920 democrat entirely because of the sources google fed them so is that is that a is that an accurate

01:16:12.200 summary of what you did with that study well it's it's kind of a mishmash but uh yes in 2018 i set up a

01:16:20.180 more ambitious uh monitoring uh project so these are this is not these aren't scientific experiments i do

01:16:27.440 scientific experiments of course but setting up these monitoring systems that's a whole separate

01:16:32.660 enterprise uh learning how to do this kind of monitoring and that's extremely important for

01:16:39.860 democracy and for human autonomy worldwide just learning how to do this monitoring so yes

01:16:46.980 teen i set up a bigger monitoring system uh and we collected a lot more data and we did a more

01:16:53.300 sophisticated analysis but still not still not enough data that's why you're raising money

01:16:59.000 still not enough data to to act conclusively on anything right well no that's not true uh we we

01:17:06.420 had we had a massive amount of data in 2018 uh and we didn't we just show uh definitively uh how many

01:17:14.600 votes were shifted in in the three uh congressional races that we monitored closely uh but we then

01:17:21.120 modeled what would happen nationwide in 2018 uh if that level of bias had been present throughout the

01:17:28.280 country which it very likely was a bias towards uh democratic candidates which is what we found in

01:17:33.980 in google uh but not on bing and yahoo see that's important to realize you know there if you're finding

01:17:40.920 it on just one search engine but not the others uh you know you have to kind of wonder about that

01:17:46.320 company uh the point is what we what we found by modeling based on the massive amount of data that we

01:17:52.480 collected is if that level of bias had been present nationwide that would have shifted 98.2 million

01:17:58.840 votes to democrats wow and and i like democrats uh with no one knowing that this had occurred now 98.2

01:18:06.500 million would have been spread across hundreds and hundreds of races but still that's a lot of votes

01:18:12.920 when you consider that the manipulation is invisible and leaves no paper trail okay so i just have to ask

01:18:19.980 this question i think i know the answer to it but i want to hear it from you you've got you're on the

01:18:25.520 winning side these are democrats you like that 92 million votes that changes the world for the

01:18:30.500 democratic party why would you expose this because i i put democracy and the free and fair election

01:18:39.260 and our country ahead of any particular party or candidate it's that simple i i have to speak out

01:18:46.900 because the numbers are so large and because we don't really understand what's going on these days

01:18:53.440 not without monitoring systems i'm the only person in the world who's built two such systems so far

01:19:00.480 and the one i want to build for in 2020 will be much much larger and much more sophisticated and it won't

01:19:07.480 just be looking at search results it'll be looking at news feeds and email suppression and shadow banning

01:19:13.040 all of the shenanigans that are being perpetrated right now uh on the american electorate we're going to

01:19:19.640 look at the whole thing and it's going to be very very expensive and you know i'm in panic mode right now

01:19:26.160 because of just what's happened in the past couple of days set in motion by hillary clinton whom i

01:19:33.360 supported in 2016

01:19:35.200 doctor um how much money are you looking to raise well this is a big project this is this is going to

01:19:43.700 need 50 million dollars at least 50 million whoa i'll write you a check don't worry about it this

01:19:51.120 afternoon we got that for you robert thank you uh i wouldn't catch it but i'll write it we've raised we

01:19:58.900 this this audience for you know to save christians in the middle east we raised 26 million in what

01:20:05.840 how long eight weeks 12 weeks a little longer than that but it was a lot of money yeah it was over 20

01:20:12.560 million by christmas we launched it in august and by christmas we had 20 million dollars um that's an

01:20:18.640 awful lot of money um you need some but we we i can't tell you in strong enough terms

01:20:26.100 we are losing time on google and google is happy to assist the chinese once the gate closes

01:20:36.700 it's too late uh you we have to have an understanding of what google is doing and they must

01:20:46.440 be hogtied uh or at least exposed we have to know what's going on you are you are

01:20:55.160 easily manipulated and as the good doctor just said you won't even know it and this goes beyond

01:21:02.860 elections this goes to your children what they believe what they think what history is all you

01:21:09.940 have to do is manipulate history in a way that you don't you don't even see and all of a sudden

01:21:15.280 everybody believes i mean how many times do you hear your kids well i googled it yeah it was on google

01:21:21.300 well okay that doesn't that they're not god but they are approaching that status uh and if you are

01:21:29.500 if if you have any money that you can spare this one for humanity's sake this is human rights at this

01:21:38.360 is human rights 101 i want you to go to my google research.com my google research.com real quick can i ask

01:22:00.080 around the world and with especially with our intelligence agencies uh they were funded in part

01:22:06.020 in the very beginning by the nsa and the cia yeah and you know that relationship is very strong so they

01:22:12.880 help out uh you know all all of the agencies and they're and they work with ice and they supply data

01:22:19.700 uh and of course they have the most extensive surveillance uh you know information of of any

01:25:56.840 anything from the mob you're out a guy who lived this has written a really powerful and very funny

01:26:05.520 book about it he i think he's i think he's probably america's best writer uh and uh this you can tell

01:26:15.320 has been written from the heart of his bottom he is he is passionate about it we go to him

01:26:23.080 in one minute this is the glenbeck program

01:26:26.800 all right i'm in radio so i you know i've been on the radio you know circus train for my whole life

01:26:34.540 and that is usually a life of just constantly trying to sell your home and i always get screwed

01:26:38.740 on and i don't know who to call i mean who's gonna call all right well i saw you know a bus board with

01:26:43.840 that person's face on it well that's great are they qualified i don't know i don't know what to ask

01:26:49.080 you need a real estate agent that you know is qualified someone that you trust is a good decent

01:26:55.700 businessman has your same values knows the price of your home what it should sell for

01:27:00.240 is on the up and up and actually you know works for you well i about seven or eight years ago

01:27:09.320 um i was having problems yet again with another house and i began to meet some of the best agents

01:27:14.880 in america joy in pennsylvania and marty in north carolina or josh in salt lake city

01:27:19.680 um andrew in tampa i learned what great agents actually do and um i thought wow they're all

01:27:29.880 saying similar things they're all saying in fact exactly the same thing let's go find all the agents

01:27:34.720 like that and then make them available to you because these are the people that i trust to sell

01:27:39.740 my home i would trust to help me buy a new home and you can too if you're looking to buy or sell a

01:27:46.080 new home they're going to get it done fast they're going to get it done right and for the least amount

01:27:50.200 of money if you're going in and the most amount of money going out it's realestateagentsitrust.com

01:27:56.020 a man who began his journalism career in the bombay-based indian express newspaper group i don't even

01:28:19.460 know how you would go about doing that kevin williamson is here hello kevin how are you it

01:28:24.420 helps to have a friend in college whose family lives there and uh really introduce you to some

01:28:27.680 people yeah that's how i ended up there okay i didn't know the first thing about it so you were

01:28:31.120 uh you were a uh you started there in bombay yeah had you ever been to bombay i'd never been

01:28:36.440 outside of the united states except for mexican border towns right growing up in texas yeah so

01:28:40.680 it's a little different than texas the u.s or mexico yeah um you know when i got there um no one

01:28:47.280 even knew what the population of bombay was at that point in the 90s because it was such a crazy

01:28:51.160 chaotic place they thought maybe 20 million maybe 25 million it was uh but it's a great place to be

01:28:55.940 a newspaper guy because everyone read newspapers there you know typical household would get four

01:28:59.800 or five newspapers a day so wow tremendously fun place to uh start a newspaper yeah and then you

01:29:04.780 became a theater critic uh some years later yeah when i was living in new york i wrote the theater

01:29:09.020 column for the new criterion for a while but aren't you i mean don't you have to be an old

01:29:13.200 cantankerous bitter man to do that or are you i've been an old cantankerous bitter man since i was

01:29:20.240 about 11 and uh so okay i'm kind of growing into it right okay yeah your body is starting to catch

01:29:26.980 up with your mind unfortunately i've been waiting for my hair to turn gray for years yeah yeah yeah

01:29:30.980 don't wish for that because i i always wanted my hair because everybody in my family by 30 they're

01:29:37.040 white yeah and it took me to 50 and now and i was like well everybody's got the great white hair and

01:29:42.720 now i have it and i'm like good god you look like you're a thousand years old um all right so um

01:29:49.020 you've written a new you've written a new book the smallest minority by borderline unpublishable

01:29:54.840 angry profane book uh so i um i just i you can't read from this book on the radio oh yes you know

01:30:01.420 there's one paragraph there's one paragraph that i'm i'm not going to read but i'd like you to read

01:30:07.240 right here uh because it is it is one of the greatest screeds of all time oh no i don't know

01:30:14.640 if i can find it here it was uh you describing you describing people uh uh that you you know you

01:30:26.780 had a oh shoot where is that uh oh here it is here it is here it is uh pick it up right here

01:30:31.780 um let's see it's like testimony you're like actually did you write this everyone knows i'm

01:30:37.300 a monster can i give this book to you do everyone i know my own work do everyone i to a monster to

01:30:43.400 the end of that paragraph on the next page i would much rather you read it you no no no no no it's

01:30:49.540 got words in it i can't pronounce it's strange to read your own work no it's not um this is like

01:30:54.220 when you gotta read it the way you meant it too well um i should sometime tell you the sentences

01:30:59.820 that got left out they edited this thing are you saying oh man you wouldn't believe the original

01:31:05.620 version oh my gosh this is after edits this is the boulderized version oh my gosh because this is

01:31:12.940 the first paragraph listen so it starts everyone knows i'm a monster and by everybody i mean all

01:31:18.080 good decent serious newspaper analog reading people and by all good decent serious newspaper 0.98

01:31:22.760 analog reading people i mean you sad atavistic masturbatory specimens out there in the woolly 0.99

01:31:27.580 wilds of america by which i mean you putt pounding nobodies in brooklyn or gaiman oklahoma depending 0.99

01:31:32.460 on your tribe obsessively following intermedia squabbles on social media cheering for what you

01:31:37.200 imagine to be your side like a bunch of marginally employed and past your time nfl cheering leg tattooed

01:31:42.960 douche rockets at some ghastly observant sports bar and enjoying a nice bottle of the warm and comforting

01:31:48.020 illusion of solidarity as though tom brady or levion bell would have taken a voluminous equine piss

01:31:52.780 on you from a great height if you were smoldering and crackling on the sidelines like a sizzling plate

01:31:57.540 of kansas city burnham now the question is that would have taken me a week to write that is just

01:32:06.200 brilliant how long did that take you to write did that just as long as it did to read

01:32:10.780 so okay funny thing about this book is you know it's got a bunch of footnotes in it yeah and um

01:32:17.320 most of the book is sort of halfway like a normal political book and then the footnotes

01:32:22.760 which are about maybe a quarter of the book are the uh kind of running commentary about what i'm

01:32:27.260 actually thinking as i write this stuff and uh the footnotes were the part that were um problematic for

01:32:33.000 the editors i think there are a few of them that didn't make it in i'll i'll share with you off

01:32:37.560 yeah yeah maybe you could share in our podcast yeah i don't think i could even share on your podcast

01:32:42.020 really wow did you think that it would go in or you were just like i don't care i figured i would

01:32:46.820 just give it a shot you know um regularly i like working with regularly but when they put out the

01:32:51.320 press release for this book they called it you know hilarious and profane this is before the book

01:32:55.080 was done yeah i figured they're going to put profane in the press release that's license right

01:32:58.700 that's right i can do what i want right right and you did kind of yeah yeah and you did so so take me

01:33:05.860 take me through it i'm gonna we're gonna talk about it we're gonna do a podcast uh today for a

01:33:10.840 broadcast in a couple weeks but and we'll go through all of it but take me through the the premise

01:33:16.800 of the uh of the book yeah i started writing don't leave out any of the uh acerbic or 0.58

01:33:23.040 i started writing the book in in 2015 after you know witnessing a number of these dumb you know

01:33:28.440 kind of twitter mob freak outs the uh a lot of more really exactly political or political people

01:33:32.740 you know the justine sacco business and the uh guy getting canned from google and all that

01:33:37.420 and um there was something to me that seemed weird and uh kind of ritualistic about this stuff it

01:33:43.420 was a kind of public ceremony it wasn't really something that was about the issues that it

01:33:47.900 pretended to be about and so i wrote part of the book at that time and a book proposal and i sent

01:33:52.220 it around and nobody wanted it and then a couple years later i went to work for the atlantic for three

01:33:56.620 days and got fired and my phone started to ring before i got to the airport literally and i was

01:34:01.460 waiting on the plane to come home to texas and uh people were suddenly interested in the book

01:34:05.900 so go figure um it's an ill will an ill wind that blows me no some good but um so the book is about

01:34:15.540 um some of the social and political reasons for why people have become so hysterical and theatrical

01:34:22.420 in terms of their political engagement and what i really ultimately argue is it's not really about

01:34:26.780 politics it's that people have a certain emptiness in their lives in a sense that they lack

01:34:32.040 connectedness and um these media mob phenomenon and social media you know this kind of performative

01:34:38.760 theatrical hysterical politics gives them a false sense of having being involved in something

01:34:44.700 important it gives them a sense that they've been involved in something meaningful when they're not

01:34:49.220 um but it it kind of feels good and so people go to it in this weird addictive compulsive way

01:34:54.820 so it's not really politics that's happening on twitter it's this weird embarrassing public group

01:34:59.140 therapy session and that's essentially what the book is about so um it but it is it's being used by

01:35:06.260 politics sure yeah um we just had i i said to stew almost every day now i meet somebody uh and usually

01:35:14.700 now from the other side that is has just been affected lost their job lost their career we just had a

01:35:20.560 really brilliant uh psychiatrist on with us a few a few minutes ago and he he's now being targeted by

01:35:27.900 google and clinton who he voted for yeah he's a fan of of google i mean he has respect for google

01:35:34.860 um and and clinton he said i've i've got a letter from bill clinton hanging above my desk and now

01:35:42.280 they're taking me out and saying that i'm a monster yeah um there's a bit in coriolanus about that how

01:35:47.380 you know you're the favorite one day and the villain the next day and that's that seems to be the case

01:35:50.640 of it um one of the things i get into the book a lot is the emergence of that very thing of the use of

01:35:55.420 employment as a weapon of political coercion and i think that's a really interesting um subject to

01:36:01.080 follow up on because this phenomenon of uh demand for homogeneity and conformity is not really so

01:36:07.740 much a problem for people like you or me i mean we're in the in the controversy business it's what

01:36:11.360 we do uh you know maybe you lose an advertiser here and then maybe you lose a gig here or there

01:36:15.920 but you know that's kind of what we do it's a much much bigger problem if you're someone who's

01:36:19.700 trying to manage a starbucks in philadelphia and you're going to lose your job because you're

01:36:23.380 enforcing company policy but it becomes this viral twitter phenomenon or if you're a programmer at

01:36:28.240 google or you're someone who works at a bank or someone who's a hairdresser and they make examples

01:36:33.740 of these people and that kind of you know psychic terrorism is effective and now people know just

01:36:39.080 not to voice opinions in the first place if they're any way afraid that it might be unpopular

01:36:43.520 or non-conforming i i will tell you i think that um i would have agreed with you just a few years ago

01:36:50.440 but i believe my voice and i didn't feel this way at fox okay and they were coming after me like

01:36:56.920 crazy i do believe my voice could be silenced i could be erased now from history and just not

01:37:02.980 you're just gone you think yeah you don't ah i think you well not to flatter you but you sell an

01:37:09.560 awful lot of books and have an awful lot of listeners i think it'd be hard to do that um but a lot of that

01:37:14.900 and i think maybe um we remind the the navy seals when they turn dark and they're working for the

01:37:20.280 corporations and come to get me at night but a lot of this stuff when it comes to people like you

01:37:25.020 though i think i think you saw this really in the roseanne barr case where the public twitter mob

01:37:30.140 phenomenon is really a pretext for things that are going on inside the company you know no one at abc

01:37:36.320 is making multi-million dollar programming decisions based on what at caitlin321vegan on twitter

01:37:43.300 has to say about you know roseanne barr right right right um i didn't lose my job at the

01:37:49.660 atlantic because people were freaking out on twitter i lost my job at the atlantic because

01:37:52.760 of things that were going on on staff and in the company and uh that tends to be the case i think

01:37:57.760 more for people like us and you've seen this in the in the positive outcomes too with uh i'll say a

01:38:02.740 kind word for the new york times which has had several of its writers and people targeted in this

01:38:06.820 way and they said no we're the new york times we hire who we like and we're going to keep

01:38:09.860 brett stevens on the staff and they don't like it yeah that's the way premiere radio is that's

01:38:13.400 the reason why we're still on radio is because of iheart is an amazing company that just is like i

01:38:19.660 don't care we're i don't care we'll put any voice on and as long as they don't lose our license and

01:38:25.640 they're generally responsible we don't care what their opinion is we'll put them on and we don't

01:38:31.560 care what the mob says yeah and it's going to be up to institutions to stand up to this kind of thing

01:38:36.160 uh because you know individuals even you know ones that have some outlet like i do um really rely

01:38:41.520 on institutions to to be the ones who are going to stand and run guard on this but that's what i

01:38:45.500 mean i think that you know you could erase because google is quickly becoming every outlet right it's

01:38:53.180 becoming the i mean if you're not with google you're not around and that's one of the misunderstood

01:38:58.080 things about this you know like that freak out about james demore at google was not about some

01:39:02.680 nobody programmer that no one cares about it was about google it's not about we can get this fired

01:39:07.640 it's we can make google jump when we say jump and we can make facebook jump when we say jump and we

01:39:11.960 can make the new york times rewrite a headline when we said the new york times is going to rewrite a

01:39:15.240 headline so that the people involved in this who you know get fired or otherwise are really just sort

01:39:20.520 of instruments they're they're props for this this great active theater it's more about controlling

01:39:24.920 the institutions and that's where institutions really have to stand up for themselves and that's the

01:39:29.200 shame of particularly the university culture where you've got a bunch of academics who depend on

01:39:34.820 intellectual honesty and intellectual freedom but will not stand up for it in their own institutions

01:39:38.700 all right back in just a second with uh kevin williamson the name of the book is the smallest

01:39:42.980 minority independent thinking in the age of mob politics it's a must read it is profane it is 0.98

01:39:51.980 profane but in a strange all that feels good sort of way um uh it never feels so smart after swearing

01:40:00.900 so much like you know and i have to tell you uh does uh uh what's his name he's on o'reilly all the

01:40:08.060 time uh the comedian um dennis miller does dennis miller ever look at you and laugh and he just doesn't

01:40:17.840 even know what you're talking about but he laughs i hope so i don't know dennis miller but um but i

01:40:22.960 hope he does yeah because uh that's the way everybody is with dennis miller and i think dennis

01:40:27.580 miller may be that way with you that we're like i know that's funny i don't get the reference because

01:40:31.920 i'm not smart enough but all right everyone deals with pain from uh from time to time it's one of the

01:40:37.380 few guarantees you have in life the death taxes pain as well uh when it happens you just you go along

01:40:43.720 you do the best and deal with it you move forward but sometimes there is no moving forward because

01:40:48.700 sometimes when it comes back day after day it fills your world and steals some of the joy out of your

01:40:54.280 life and then you're like hey maybe i could take some opium or something that doesn't work out well

01:41:00.340 doesn't have to be that way real relief factor is a great way to reduce the inflammation that causes

01:41:06.540 pain and it works for 70 of the people who try it relief factor is not a drug it's a combination of

01:41:12.480 fish oils and botanicals which is the reason why it took me about four years to take it because i'm

01:41:18.620 like that won't work uh you know i although i don't see very many fish with walkers um but i just

01:41:26.720 you know tau chemical has to be involved if it's going to work for me uh this is fish oils and

01:41:32.860 botanicals and it it works it clears the pathways in your body that are susceptible to inflammation

01:41:37.800 nineteen ninety nine you get a three-week quick start try it see if it helps you get your life

01:41:43.400 back get rid of your pain drug-free natural way to get pain out of your life and get your life back

01:41:49.420 on track it's relieffactor.com that's relieffactor.com we pause for 10 seconds station id

01:41:55.760 so i'd like to may i change the subjects a bit here kevin with you and go to red flagging sure

01:42:18.200 uh i just got a uh a listener sent in a uh fundraising piece from a a senator in uh where

01:42:31.820 was it pennsylvania that was making the case that we must have red flagging your thoughts on what's

01:42:40.960 happening i don't understand the basic case for red flag laws so david french at national review and

01:42:46.040 i've debated about this a little bit on the corner um i kind of distrust the the the whole premise of

01:42:50.840 it but what's used is the is the example is that we have these laws for involuntarily committing

01:42:56.140 people uh for mental care when they seem to present an immediate threat to themselves or others and

01:43:02.000 there's a process there by which a judge and a doctor are involved and we've got this way of doing it

01:43:05.820 so they want to use that as the basis of the red flags laws or the red flag law i think that ought to

01:43:11.480 be the red flag law that if you think someone actually is danger to himself or someone else

01:43:16.700 they should rather than messing around with whether this person can buy a gun uh then we

01:43:20.260 should probably you know ensure that this person is under is under is under mental health care

01:43:24.060 so i think to that extent we've already got the red flag law that we need and people will say well

01:43:28.780 it's it's it's very onerous and it's hard to get through this process and it's hard to do

01:43:32.480 it should be yeah exactly that's how we want it we're talking about the bill of rights here

01:43:35.920 and um i'm i'm always pretty queasy about the idea of suspending anyone's civil rights uh when they

01:43:43.000 haven't been charged with a crime or convicted of a crime or even arrested for a crime we're taking

01:43:47.440 look if if somebody comes in and if i you know i come in in the day and i say i got pop tarts in my

01:43:54.340 pants i have pop tarts in my pants and i'm eating pop tarts from my pants you might say glenn you might

01:43:59.460 you know what why don't you take the day off you might call tanya and say he might need to see a doctor

01:44:04.580 um but if i'm coming in with a gun or i'm dangerous then you might call police and i should

01:44:10.320 be taken to the doctor and a doctor and a judge should decide with my wife if maybe i you know 1.00

01:44:16.340 have more than pop tarts i may have guns and maybe that's a danger that's the way you deal with it what

01:44:22.280 they're trying to do is with this red flag law nobody will take it that far nobody will take it that

01:44:30.460 far but i i'm telling you right now you can't tell me that there aren't a lot of people who have been

01:44:37.360 divorced that in that divorce proceeding somebody might say you know what and he's dangerous and

01:44:43.560 he's got a lot of guns yeah one other thing about having been a small town newspaper editor is you

01:44:48.640 spend a lot of time reading court records of those very things you know divorce cases custody cases and

01:44:53.520 stuff like that and you're probably half of the death threats i ever got in my life

01:44:57.620 were uh editing a small town newspaper and writing a dui story about some guy who's in a custody dispute

01:45:03.080 with his wife and thinks he's going to lose his kids because this thing comes up and the sorts of

01:45:08.160 accusations that are made in those situations tend to be often irresponsible and there's not much of a

01:45:13.380 downside for doing it we don't really retaliate against people for that sort of thing i um don't

01:45:18.660 have as much faith as a lot of conservatives do in the law enforcement and prosecutorial apparatus

01:45:23.680 although i think that the prosecutors are a bigger problem than the police officers are for the most

01:45:28.200 part and i don't really trust them with the power they already have and to give them additional power

01:45:35.100 on top of that to essentially make an end run around the bill of rights um you know i'm going to take

01:45:40.960 some convincing yeah yeah i'm going to take a little convincing but i don't think i don't think a lot

01:45:45.440 of america is needing a lot of convincing the really maddening thing about this is that um you know if

01:45:50.660 you look at say the u.s attorney's office for for illinois they will not prosecute a straw buyer

01:45:54.780 case they just won't uh they don't think it's worth their time unless it's part of a big organized

01:45:58.400 crime investigation the current conviction rate for uh illegal handgun cases in the chicago area is

01:46:04.940 about 14 percent um we've got laws on the books that we ought to be enforcing we really ought to be

01:46:10.500 going after straw buyers we ought to be going after people for minor weapons charges before they become 0.97

01:46:15.060 homicides and we've got a lot of things that we could be doing on this front that we simply refuse to do

01:46:20.260 because law enforcement is basically lazy um if you look all of our gun control proposals are

01:46:26.940 targeted at licensed gun dealers and the people who do business with them they've got addresses

01:46:31.780 and business hours and records they're really easy to police whereas guys who are selling you know

01:46:36.500 glocks out of the trunk of their car off the interstate somewhere a lot harder to catch

01:46:39.960 all right more with kevin williamson in a minute

01:46:43.000 you know we have all known and trusted the name of norton for a long time uh they've been the go-to

01:47:03.420 name in internet security since the internet was a toddler and they remain vigilant because of the rise

01:47:09.560 in cyber crime uh as the internet takes up more and more of our lives and the job has only gotten

01:47:14.600 harder over the time and and they are rising to the occasion norton has now a secure vpn that is easy

01:47:22.160 to use it's a virtual private network that has bank grade encryption to hide anything that's going on

01:47:29.160 online i don't think you have anything to hide but you know why is google giving me all of this free

01:47:36.200 information because they know what they can get from me for free with me thinking i don't have

01:47:41.640 anything to hide i don't have anything of value they know the value of it norton secure vpn creates

01:47:47.760 a secure tunnel for the information you send and receive online so cyber criminals can't see it while

01:47:53.540 you're connected to wi-fi it also blocks companies that want to track your browsing activities norton

01:47:59.160 secure vpn seamless install it once let it run in the background it's norton secure vpn you get it

01:48:06.120 norton.com vpn christmas stories with glenn beck the show is december 7th live in salt lake city

01:48:13.500 at kingsbury hall get your tickets and information at glenn beck.com

01:48:17.000 i want to see if we can start a conversation with two words uh and usually not the words that you

01:48:28.000 can start a conversation with mojo burrito oh i'm fascinated by that i mean this is a this is a

01:48:35.840 story about someone who went to the charlottesville rally uh was uh he was out there with the torch

01:48:40.740 he's got the tiki torch walking around jews will not replace us got the short haircut everything 1.00

01:48:44.300 the whole thing the whole thing yeah works at mojo burrito yeah and they find him at the

01:48:48.580 not one of the very fine people no no no there's on both sides well no he made very fine burritos we

01:48:55.560 do know that he may have been a very fine worker at mojo burrito and and all that that entails so

01:49:01.040 then you know social media finds his pictures right he's at this rally well everyone at this rally we

01:49:05.040 have to get fired from their jobs obviously like these people are racist and they are you know

01:49:08.620 terrible terrible ideology terrible terrible uh not not good people um so the guy comes back and

01:49:14.680 there's a big controversy and he gets fired from mojo burrito right right and so what is the outcome

01:49:20.920 of this so now we have taken a person who seemingly was if he wasn't serving black people burritos then

01:49:26.800 yes huge problem but if he's making normal burritos not racist burritos at his burrito place we've now

01:49:32.660 taken him we've gotten him fired from a burrito place so now what he can sit at home with lots of 1.00

01:49:37.520 free time and our money from all of the programs he's now joined we're gonna pay for him to sit at home

01:49:42.540 and plans his next racist protest we're with kevin williamson who's written the new book

01:49:47.460 the smallest minority independent thinking in the age of mod mob politics mojo burrito yeah mojo burrito

01:49:53.680 figures uh occasionally in the book uh although the expression i use is the powers that be at mojo burrito

01:49:59.720 because this is uh well it's a very dark clandestine group that runs mojo burrito right yeah i i think

01:50:06.000 probably so so you know often we see these situations where people are getting you know fired from their jobs

01:50:11.120 for perfectly defensible ideas or for things that are being taken out of context or distorted but 0.98

01:50:16.360 sometimes it's people who are genuinely jerks and have awful ideas and this guy is a one of them but i 0.96

01:50:22.260 wonder if we really want to make mojo burrito or companies like it the arbiter of what you can do in 0.99

01:50:28.880 your private time um is every job in america now a political job um including making burritos at some

01:50:34.420 burrito shop no one's ever wise heard of i can kind of get it if you're the chairman of ge and you've got

01:50:40.000 some political connections to your job but this is a guy making probably eight bucks an hour somewhere

01:50:45.080 if he's lucky who makes burritos and uh do we really want to create a political culture that says

01:50:50.380 there is no private space that not only is every job a political job but everything that everyone does 0.99

01:50:55.820 at a job like that also is political when the stupid thing happened with these covington kids 0.96

01:51:00.200 there was a deal where there was a kid in the picture who was standing like 40 feet away from the 0.97

01:51:05.200 kid who was in all the pictures and people tracked down who this kid's mother was and contacted her

01:51:10.820 employers and tried to get this woman fired from their job so we're going to get people fired from 1.00

01:51:14.840 their jobs because you've got a child a minor child who's standing 40 feet away from a guy in another

01:51:21.620 picture and the guy in the picture might have been doing something naughty although as it turns out he

01:51:26.580 wasn't um that's weird that's not normal people don't do stuff like that yeah that is that's not

01:51:34.020 that's not normal liberal democratic politics but that's where we are you know where that is if you

01:51:38.260 read um you read anything from anybody who lived in 1930 to 33 germany yeah east germany especially yeah

01:51:47.580 yeah they said that that is nazi germany as well but east germany later had that very that right culture 0.98

01:51:51.860 being an informer yeah you had life was political yeah i mean that's politically correct that's where

01:51:58.740 it comes from but i mean life was political everything was political and the people who

01:52:03.580 who you know came through the weimar republic and then into national socialism uh and the nazis they

01:52:10.780 they they talked about it we we didn't talk about these things with people we didn't have that

01:52:16.240 we didn't grow up like this we didn't not everything wasn't political my son said to me at one

01:52:21.780 point we were watching um uh springtime for hitler mel brooks hysterical hysterical and uh my son

01:52:31.080 in my house growing up in my house he was like 12 at the time and he said dad the government this is

01:52:38.220 the original the government allowed them to make this movie holy cow yeah he regretted saying that

01:52:47.900 because it led to about two hour rant naturally yeah do you think there's any movie that mel brooks

01:52:52.700 made that could be made today nope i don't think one of his movies you can make today probably not

01:52:56.360 even space balls certainly not space balls no that's just because it really doesn't hold up as well i

01:53:02.320 loved it when it came out really does not plus the star wars canon is now so confused yeah you know

01:53:07.400 it's hard to parody yeah um i think that there should be private space in the world i think there should

01:53:12.280 be such a thing as private life including for boneheaded nazis including for people who have 0.75

01:53:16.460 really really awful ideas including for people who are maoists and have all sorts of crazy political 0.99

01:53:20.500 ideas and i think that um that also holds true of people who have service jobs at places like mojo

01:53:26.720 burrito i don't think we really want to deputize america's employers to be the arbiters of what's

01:53:31.360 politically acceptable uh in private life not to mention in public life this is perplexing for me that

01:53:36.660 progressives have uh embraced this because historically progressives always presented

01:53:41.220 themselves as being the people who are keeping corporate power in check and now they want to

01:53:46.820 deputize essentially the fortune 500 to be america's cultural police and to say this is what is acceptable

01:53:52.640 and this is what's not acceptable and this applies at all times in all places everywhere um i can see

01:53:57.940 firing a guy you know i used to work at burger king and if i like you know started giving people

01:54:02.020 heil hitler salutes at burger king i think burger king would have been completely within his

01:54:06.060 tries to fire me over that you said have it your way yeah not with the salute and uh plus you know

01:54:12.500 the jack boots are not part of the official uniform and uh burger king was a big stickler about the

01:54:17.500 uniform i used to work there but um hitler was a vegan so yeah it's true hitler was a vegetarian i 0.82

01:54:23.080 hear but um this was something someone was doing in private life um he just happened to be photographed

01:54:28.240 uh doing it and people tracked him down and all the rest of it and i think that is is basically nuts

01:54:33.760 and i don't think we want to live in that world we're seeing that right now in texas if you just

01:54:36.840 forgive me for a second with you know joaquin castro do you really want to live in a world in

01:54:41.320 which your local congressman is going to try to ruin you your business and your family financially

01:54:45.680 and your political crime is that you just made a donation to the other party's presidential

01:54:50.080 candidate i'm not a huge trump fan i wrote a whole book called the case against trump

01:54:53.820 but making a donation to the republican party's presidential candidate is not like you know

01:54:59.600 walking around with a swastika flag it's not the same thing are you sure pretty sure so here you know

01:55:05.940 you're talking about uh companies so purchased you ever seen one in real life yeah like nike box

01:55:17.020 uh with the betsy ross flag on the shoe now it's actually kind of not a bad show do those actually

01:55:25.120 go for sale at some point no well well yeah yeah yeah but like they're like yeah okay so uh this was

01:55:32.040 actually uh purchased in georgia for 148 dollars

01:55:38.260 he did you pay any more you could have bought a car for what you paid for this what do you think

01:55:43.620 you think that's worth this is why socialism will never work what is this worth on the actual

01:55:47.600 free market on the free market today what's this 2500 bucks no no i'm low yeah okay this is a this

01:55:57.140 a nike one that was pulled from the market so one that was red white and blue an original air jordan

01:56:01.960 goes for like 60 000 right so okay maybe those i'll go 20 okay good you made me feel a little better

01:56:08.580 seven seven seven thousand dollars two days before they were five thousand dollars i mean these

01:56:15.500 the that's nuts that is absolutely nuts and it is a good looking shoe yeah i mean i would go yeah

01:56:23.620 as nikes go i mean i would have bought that it's a great shoe it's a cool looking shoe you know if

01:56:29.440 you really want to be like over the top patriotic you can wear that they ban it now tell me about

01:56:37.000 companies like nike how what is it that we are just becoming this this second tier country or market

01:56:46.680 that china is the market so they don't really care about us anymore what what it would what is this 0.97

01:56:51.980 i think that these west coast corporate executives especially and they're worse on the west coast than

01:56:57.620 on the east coast i think they're pretty pc in the east coast but in a different kind of way

01:57:00.680 they're really easy to bully like you know your facebook guys you're mark zuckerberg's people like that

01:57:06.740 your google guys yeah they're they're left of center but they do not go to these extraordinary

01:57:12.260 links that they do to accommodate this stuff because it's their political identity i mean it's

01:57:17.360 partly their political identity but it's because they're easy to bully we wouldn't be having any of

01:57:22.080 these conversations about facebook and antitrust enforcement and all the rest of it if hillary clinton

01:57:26.220 won in 2016 people lost their their their word i can't say with facebook because of donald trump

01:57:33.980 winning the election and they want to blame someone for it they can't blame hillary clinton for it so

01:57:37.260 they blame facebook for it and facebook certainly had did some made some bad calls and did some bad

01:57:41.480 things they didn't change the outcome of the election but they're easy to push around these

01:57:45.080 guys and they're easy to shame because they you know they want to look good in front of their

01:57:49.600 friends like everyone else and i think they're different from your wall street types who are sort of

01:57:54.000 take a you know more of a screw you attitude toward this stuff and they're a little harder to push

01:57:57.220 around and nike i think it's an easy company to push around i think they've shown themselves to be an

01:58:01.980 easy company to push around and the problem is that twitter's not a real good ceo and twitter's

01:58:07.220 not a real good magazine publisher and twiggers twitter's not a good uh headline writer you know

01:58:12.220 twitter's not a very good hr boss but twitter's in charge of a lot of this stuff now i think this is

01:58:16.940 changing i think it's starting to go the other way i think we're early on it but i think it's

01:58:20.940 starting to go the other way do you agree with that i have some hope that people get bored with it so

01:58:25.500 a lot of my argument about this stuff is that people go to this because it feels exciting

01:58:29.060 and they're going to it not for political engagement just for entertainment value it's

01:58:33.820 not actually that entertaining um you know i do this stuff all day i get bored with it and it's my

01:58:38.040 job um people who are doing it just kind of recreationally um their attention is going to move

01:58:43.000 on i think it's kind of like survivor i mean there was a while there we were all watching survivor and

01:58:47.720 mark burnett where everybody was talking about him and now you know you're like survivor that's still

01:58:52.440 on really they're still doing that i've never even seen titanic

01:58:55.980 yeah so i mean but there was a time where it gets really really hot everybody's talking about

01:59:04.040 it and then it's over and i think it's not just going to be over i really actually fear the backlash

01:59:09.480 yeah i think this stuff moves like fashion does too you know um if you look at for instance the

01:59:15.300 the really really fast evolution of the sort of acceptable language we're using with trans people

01:59:19.440 um it really like overnight right yeah well i remember when the the bradley manning story first

01:59:25.240 broke and people were trying to write this story about there's this guy we've all known as bradley

01:59:28.940 manning who now wants to be known as chelsea and he's come out as trans and blah blah blah blah

01:59:32.820 people were really having a fit over using the name bradley manning in this story

01:59:37.040 like five minutes after the guy made his announcement you had dead naming dead naming

01:59:40.880 and twitter of course has an official policy against this one of the problems with the fact that

01:59:45.560 these companies are so hard to push around is that corporations like single solutions they like

01:59:50.300 one-size-fits-all solutions and there are other countries that don't have our free speech laws

01:59:54.860 you know and not backward countries like china but countries like germany that have you know a very

02:00:00.000 very different conception of what the government's role in policing political speech is and it's sort

02:00:04.380 of like california and their emission standards where they're more strict than the rest of the country

02:00:07.780 they end up becoming essentially a national standard i worry that the speech laws in a place like germany

02:00:13.040 or austria end up becoming essentially the world standard because the tech companies want to

02:00:18.180 comply but they want to comply one time okay though you're always happy that's a happy ending thank

02:00:25.260 you very much you're welcome kevin williamson the name of the book is the smallest minority

02:00:30.580 independent thinking in the age of mob politics um it is a very very funny book very smart book it's

02:00:37.800 like four books in one because you have to read it four times to really understand all of it um but

02:00:42.460 uh it's a it's a book of our uh time and like i said well written and very funny kevin thank you so

02:00:49.160 much you'll be on uh with us at five o'clock today we're also going to do a podcast where we're going

02:00:53.080 to go to go deep in in some of these things so watch for it at blaze tv.com

02:00:58.880 somewhere right now in america within the sound of my voice there's a man driving a long haul truck

02:01:08.580 across the interstate it's his frontier he knows he's among some of the last of the dying breed 0.99

02:01:15.140 the world moves on with or without us and very soon the trucks that crisscross the fabric of our nation

02:01:21.260 are going to be driven by machines but he feels the comfort of the coming retirement just over the

02:01:28.080 next hill maybe two or three it's the comfort of a man who's earned the pride in his stride man

02:01:33.720 whose boots are just as comfortable resting on a porch as they were all those years driving in his

02:02:17.100 this is the glenbeck program i remember the first time we got hit by like left-wing activists and they

02:02:28.620 were trying to get all of our advertisers to drop and it was like your first time it happens you're

02:02:32.040 like panicked like oh what's going on i can't believe they're why are they lying about this

02:02:35.400 they're calling right and eventually i thought look the the companies are going to realize this is the

02:02:40.920 same 12 people emailing them and they're going to know it's nonsense eventually and that really never

02:02:45.340 happened i mean they they they go down these roads because the companies found that they could

02:02:49.860 uh shape their own image yeah exploit it for their own benefit correct which is something i didn't see

02:02:55.440 coming um and you guys were just talking about how eventually people get bored with the social media

02:02:59.820 mob mentality maybe maybe they get bored by it but look around the world right now with what you're

02:03:04.720 seeing in hong kong what you're seeing in italy right now where you know there's a controversy about

02:03:09.100 a boat of immigrants that it turned into kind of a social media firestorm that now looks like it's going

02:03:13.960 to overturn the italian government there's it's too much of a power surge i think for the average

02:03:19.140 person we look back at you know really good revolutions like for example uh ours where you know

02:03:25.260 here's a bunch of average people with some great ideas and they overturn the power that's something

02:03:28.520 we praise for hundreds of years so the power surge that i think comes from the average person

02:03:33.840 getting on social media and being a part of a movement that they see as taking down some evil

02:03:37.520 person of power i don't think that i don't think that ever gets the novelty doesn't go away from it

02:03:41.700 so there is um you know i just read uh a line i wish i knew where it was uh oh it's right here

02:03:47.440 uh hatred is the most accessible and comprehensive of all the unifying agents mass movements can rise

02:03:53.980 and spread without belief in god but never without a belief in the devil that is uh from 1951 and it's

02:04:01.580 it's in uh kevin williamson's new book it's funny that you ask that because the american revolution

02:04:08.000 had god we're focused on the devil focused on god um the french revolution focused on the devil

02:04:17.920 and look at the power these people who had never had power they could behead the king

02:04:23.560 until it got so bad they realized they're going to behead all of us there's not going to be anybody

02:04:28.980 left when they when they got to the point of you know what kill some of the people who are unemployed

02:04:33.620 it'll keep the unemployment rate down that's when everybody went whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa in america

02:04:38.740 because we've always focused on good as opposed to the devil uh we haven't gotten there but this time

02:04:44.860 we're we're focusing on the devil get the bad guy got to get the bad guy when you do that um it's going

02:04:52.540 to turn eventually on you and it's starting to turn on people on the left and it already has been for a

02:04:58.360 long time on the right if people get sick of that before we get to executions that's good but it

02:05:05.980 will burn itself out eventually just the question is how where's our bottom is the glenbeck program

02:05:10.800 you

02:05:18.420 you

02:05:20.420 you
