01:25:50.320 outlets and that people who watch them probably have left-leaning opinions but what we wanted to know

01:25:56.100 was how what do they understand about the facts not opinions related to important news stories and

01:26:03.600 just how detached from reality are they because my suspicion was it's pretty darn detached and so what

01:26:11.460 we did was we asked them a whole bunch of questions about media preferences and then we asked them a

01:26:17.460 bunch of questions of factual questions about things going on in the news we asked them about the national

01:26:23.140 debt we asked them about police shootings climate change questions the proportion of the population

01:26:28.820 that's uninsured uh and or doesn't have health coverage and then we were able to compare these

01:26:34.660 two things to see if there is a difference it's a very large poll likely voters and what we found was

01:26:40.720 overwhelmingly uh in the vast majority of questions that we asked the people who um watch mbc cbs

01:26:50.480 abc cnn and msnbc regularly who identified it as their favorite network were far more likely to get

01:26:58.780 these questions about facts wrong in some cases wildly wrong compared to people who watch conservative

01:27:05.540 media television and especially people who get most of their news from talk radio talk radio was actually

01:27:13.080 the the the audience that was most likely to get these questions right above all other kinds of

01:27:19.740 categories but generally speaking all conservative media way outperformed these liberal outlets

01:27:26.720 so tell me did they were there differences on climate change did they know the hot button issues for the

01:27:35.100 left like you know who lacks insurance health and care insurance who uh you know how warm is the

01:27:41.420 temperature going to be in 2050 i mean was there any question where they excelled uh there were there

01:27:50.080 were two questions where they did better than conservatives on average and those questions were in in some

01:27:58.340 ways i think kind of a mistake uh one was uh how many white people are shot unarmed white people are

01:28:06.360 fatally shot by police they were more likely to get that right but they were much more likely to get

01:28:12.760 the question about unarmed african-americans shot by fatally shot by police wrong and so the gap between

01:28:20.180 whites and blacks they were way way off uh to give people an idea of of just what we're talking about

01:28:26.900 here uh 81 percent of msnbc viewers 70 percent of cnn and more than 70 percent of the viewers of

01:28:34.360 abc cbs and mbc said that there are at least fatal 50 fatal police shootings of unarmed african-americans

01:28:41.180 every year that's at least double the real number which is about 18 according to the law

01:28:46.100 and post uh database and then a significant proportion dramatically overestimated the number

01:28:54.300 of fatal police shootings of unarmed african-americans so one quarter of cnn viewers for example said there

01:29:00.500 were at least 500 unarmed african-americans killed every year by police that's 5 000 over the course

01:29:07.820 of a decade compared to less than 200 okay so wouldn't that doesn't that make sense though i mean

01:29:15.320 you wouldn't think that this kind of coverage would go to something that affected 18 people there are more

01:29:25.200 than 18 people that die in a swimming pool every year i mean it's it's really quite uh shocking when

01:29:34.240 you actually know the numbers but if you don't know the numbers i mean i wouldn't be surprised if

01:29:39.240 people would say a thousand people are killed because it's an epidemic it's it's happening

01:29:45.260 everywhere right wouldn't you think that that's no that's exactly right in fact 10 percent of cnn's

01:29:52.100 audience did think that there were a thousand african-americans who were unarmed killed every

01:29:56.480 year by police wow yeah and so what this shows beyond any doubt is that coverage that these people

01:30:04.920 are getting because when we ask conservatives they were getting these questions right at a much much

01:30:09.240 higher rate so what it shows is that give me the talk radio listeners what did they say

01:30:14.940 for uh which which question uh for the uh for the number of uh unarmed blacks killed by police officers

01:30:24.060 okay church let me uh uh look it up real quick but yeah there's no doubt whatsoever that when we asked

01:30:33.820 um about any of these questions they were far more likely to get around talk radio was 60 so 60 of

01:30:40.260 talk radio listeners got the correct answer which was less than 50 uh compared to cnn it was 23

01:30:47.480 percent msnbc 19 um that's that gives you an illustration of of just how detached from reality

01:30:56.320 a lot of these people are and it's not just on on police shootings it's on the national debt it's on

01:31:02.160 every kind it's on virtually every question that we ask when we asked about the national debt for

01:31:07.380 example um we uh 69 percent of cbs viewers and 65 this is just an example 65 percent of mbc viewers

01:31:16.300 and 69 percent of cbs viewers said that the national debt was much lower than it actually was uh and

01:31:24.060 about 30 percent of cnn and 32 percent of cbs viewers said the national debt was five trillion

01:31:29.760 dollars or less five oh my gosh oh my gosh the last time the national debt was five trillion dollars

01:31:37.760 was in 1995 five trillion dollars how could it be five trillion dollars when they're talking about

01:31:45.180 passing another four trillion dollar package i mean exactly exactly exactly and so it's it's on on on

01:31:56.580 climate change uh about half of all msnbc viewers abc cbs nbc about half of them in fact more than half

01:32:05.820 of them said that they think that humanity will be humanity all of humanity will either be extinct

01:32:12.660 or nearly extinct within a hundred years and a quarter of them said that they'll be extinct within 50

01:32:21.500 years because of climate change so 75 wait wait so 75 percent of msnbc viewers think that within the

01:32:31.480 next 50 to 100 years we'll all be dead half half at least half of the people who said within 100 years

01:32:40.800 said within 50 years so it's okay okay okay percent of all the viewers 50 percent said less than 50 right

01:32:47.880 so 50 what are the what's the other 50 so what's the other 50 say uh most of the other 50 said that

01:32:57.000 it will happen but it will just take more than 100 years okay all right so we're dead either we're dead

01:33:03.460 either way we're eventually going to die from climate change was the overall all right but if you believe

01:33:11.260 but if you really believe that we're going to go the whole human race is going to go extinct

01:34:58.280 particular people who watch those outlets do not have a particularly fond view of joe biden uh less

01:35:04.000 than 20 percent approval across the board for those well usually it was even less than that um but

01:35:10.840 for cnn and it was actually much lower than i thought and a cbs as well uh the average cnn viewer

01:35:18.960 strongly strong approval for biden was 57 percent which is not super high uh abc was 45 percent cbs was

01:35:29.020 48 if you add in somewhat approved those numbers go up to the 70s or so depending on the network that

01:35:36.400 you're looking at um msnbc was far and away biden network uh 90 percent approved and to some degree

01:35:44.740 and 70 percent had strong approval um but wow it's not as much uh as you would expect without any doubt at

01:35:54.420 all i mean certainly the average fox news viewer or the average blaze viewer or something would have

01:35:59.800 a much higher opinion of of donald trump when if you're looking at similar polls that have been done

01:36:22.540 the fact that people who are watching these networks are just apt just not getting the truth
