00:01:11.720 There's no reason to assume that the 29-year-old man inside the car was trying to psych himself up for a shooting spree.

00:01:20.580 And there was certainly no reason to believe that less than a year ago, he had been arrested by Washington, D.C. police outside of the White House for unlawfully entering the area, which he told police he needed to inspect.

00:01:49.740 But as he dashed for cover, went toward the door, the only thing he knew was this man now had an AR-15 and was just on the other side of the door.

00:02:10.020 And it was at that time that I kind of made up my mind, because there's no way to lock that door, that if it was going to come down to it, he was going to have to work to kill me.

00:02:22.520 So, at the time that he was either reloading or the gun jammed or whatever happened is when I ran through the swivel door, I hit him with the swivel door, and then the gun was kind of jammed up and it was pushed down.

00:02:38.340 So, we were scuffling, and I managed to get him with one hand on the gun, and then I grabbed it from him, and I threw it over the countertop.

00:02:48.900 And then after that, I was trying to get out the door, and I think he was pretty much in the entrance way, so I just took him out with me, out of the entrance, and all the way outside.

00:13:31.340 I mean, you know, it's the sad part of this here is that, you know, you can sit here and

00:13:39.440 But you're much, much more likely to be killed in a fashion similar to getting struck by a truck

00:13:45.840 than ever being in danger of being involved in a school shooting or a mass shooting of

00:44:58.240 One is that they actually purport to care about data, and they won't just dismiss data

00:45:02.820 And the other is that they seem to be willing to say no to things.

00:45:06.960 And there's something that I've started terming the Bartleby effect, which is there's this

00:45:10.980 short story by Herman Melville called Bartleby, The Scrivener.

00:45:16.640 Yeah, I'm not sure either.

00:45:17.800 But the short story is about this guy who is a scribe at a Wall Street law firm.

00:45:23.740 And one day his bosses come in and they ask him to do something.

00:45:27.360 And they don't know what to do with him because he's not actively saying no, but he's not

00:45:30.240 saying yes.

00:45:56.920 he used transgender pronouns.

00:45:58.580 And Jordan, a couple of years ago, said, I'm not doing that.

00:46:01.020 It doesn't accord with the realities of psychological development.

00:46:03.840 So I'm just not going to do that.

00:46:05.160 And people lost their minds.

00:46:06.580 And suddenly, he was this major figure in Canada for just saying no.

00:46:09.800 Sam Harris has become a major figure because he was on Bill Maher's show.

00:46:12.900 And he said, Islam might be a more dangerous religion as a general matter than Christianity,

00:46:18.060 because the facts bear out that there are more violent Muslims worldwide than violent 1.00

00:46:25.180 But suddenly, he had this new following of people who were saying, listen, this guy is

00:46:33.780 So saying no, I think, gives a lot of college students a feeling like if you're willing to

00:46:37.920 say no and take a risk to say no, then you must have some sort of rooted, eternal values

00:46:44.680 And this means that you have some sort of gloss on life that's more than my professors are

00:46:48.020 saying is possible out there.

00:47:55.080 And Ezra Klein went on Sam Harris's show and without any data at all called him a racist.

00:47:59.380 That's because there's this new fangled philosophy that says that all relative, all reality is
