00:03:39.220 country period that does birthright citizenship i thought we were going to win the supreme court

00:04:08.220 As the president mentioned, the 14th Amendment was passed exclusively in the aftermath of the Civil War

00:04:14.200 so to ensure that the children of slaves would be citizens.

00:04:17.900 It had no other meaning and purpose outside of that.

00:04:20.740 And that's been clear, obviously, since the day that it was passed.

00:04:23.160 You can go back and you can read the congressional debates.

00:04:25.860 This is not something that's even seriously contested by anybody.

00:04:29.600 The president is using his authority as commander-in-chief to sign first an executive order,

00:04:35.160 using the new ruling the Supreme Court issued

00:04:40.020 who are ineligible for birthright citizenship.
