00:00:00.960 Hello lads, I must admit that I have clickbaited you into watching this video
00:00:06.740 But I only do it because it's very important what I'm about to tell you
00:00:12.940 I only ever clickbait because I want the best for you, never doubt it
00:00:17.920 In fact, I would even go so far as to say that I'm trying to control you with my psychic powers
00:00:25.540 Okay, bear with me, I've just re-read Master of Mankind in the Horace Heresy series
00:00:32.480 Absolutely epic book, a bit tragic as well, but it adds to the epicness
00:00:38.820 So anyway, I will talk a bit about a few things I posted on Instagram
00:00:43.280 Before I begin to talk about what terrifies me
00:00:48.200 I'm trying to train you to retain attention
00:00:52.240 I'm trying to train your ability to... to not get the answer immediately
00:01:00.580 I'm doing it for your own good, so... keep watching
00:01:06.260 Anyway, I have... as you might notice, I haven't made a book review video in a while
00:01:12.700 Because it's easier for me to go in nature to elaborate on things
00:01:18.040 But you can go and follow me on Instagram if you want more book reviews
00:01:22.640 And I will try to... talk more about it on YouTube as well
00:01:27.720 But I read, first and foremost, The Children of Houdin
00:01:33.980 Great book, a must-read for any fan of Tolkien
00:01:37.040 Also epic in a tragic sense
00:01:39.040 Then, more recently, I read Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment
00:01:45.380 And as I wrote on Instagram, I didn't particularly enjoy it
00:01:49.380 But I got an acquired taste for his writing style, at least
00:01:54.700 So I decided to read... so I decided to read notes from underground
00:02:00.700 And I approached it in a different way
00:02:04.040 So if you are going to read anything from Dostoevsky
00:02:08.540 Don't view the book as an epic tale where things are supposed to happen
00:02:14.760 You know, it's not like a historical fiction novel by Conor Gilden or Bernard Cornwell
00:02:20.600 Or even like Children of Houdin or Horace Heresy
00:02:24.600 A Dostoevsky book is an exposé
00:02:28.600 A deep dive into the human mind
00:02:32.600 Into the deepest and darkest places of the human mind
00:02:36.600 So that is how you should view a Dostoevsky book
00:02:40.600 Do not view it as an epic tale of valor or anything
00:02:46.600 But rather view it as a way for you to gain insights
00:02:51.600 Into the minds of the lower
00:02:54.600 So the underground man
00:02:56.600 The notes from underground
00:02:58.600 You gain access to the mind of someone of the lower
00:03:02.600 So the opposite of Tolkien Hero
00:03:06.600 Who is of course the higher
00:03:08.600 So the lower and higher, I've talked about it before
00:03:11.600 That is how you should approach Dostoevsky's work
00:03:14.600 So view it as a unique way for you to
00:03:17.600 Gain insights into the minds of the depraved
00:03:20.600 And of course if you read Crime and Punishment
00:03:23.600 It's a great way to get a look at Russian society in the 1860s
00:03:28.600 Very interesting stuff
00:03:30.600 Now then, what am I terrified of?
00:03:32.600 You ask
00:03:33.600 Yes, I am terrified of humanity's ever decreasing attention spans
00:03:41.600 Of course for humans in general
00:03:44.600 It's bad, but it's particularly bad when it happens to
00:03:48.600 Young guys who could have been my disciples
00:03:52.600 So therefore if you know that you are afflicted by this
00:03:56.600 Disease, this curse of having a short attention span
00:04:01.600 I encourage you to start reading books
00:04:04.600 You know, I talk a lot about of course going into the gym
00:04:07.600 Training for mind and body
00:04:09.600 You know, you want a bigger chest
00:04:11.600 And you want a goal
00:04:13.600 You can do bench press
00:04:15.600 Continuously getting stronger
00:04:17.600 That trains your mind and body
00:04:19.600 You can also train your attention span
00:04:21.600 Literally rewiring your brain to be able to focus on something for longer
00:04:26.600 You can do it by reading
00:04:28.600 So it doesn't really matter all too much what you are reading
00:04:32.600 As long as you train your mind to keep focus on something for a longer period of time
00:04:37.600 Because your brain
00:04:38.600 And I'm not perfect either
00:04:40.600 I have been guilty of this
00:04:41.600 You know, mindlessly scrolling
00:04:43.600 And getting new visual stimuli all the time
00:04:46.600 To get around it
00:04:48.600 To break free from the dopamine kick of scrolling and constantly clicking
00:04:54.600 Yes, you can read books
00:04:57.600 You can train your mind to focus on something for a longer period of time
00:05:01.600 I promise you, it will make you into a better human by doing it
00:05:07.600 And then of course you have different books for different purposes
00:05:11.600 You have my own book Dauntless, which is mandatory reading
00:05:15.600 Link in the description box below
00:05:17.600 Order it if you haven't already
00:05:19.600 That's a manual
00:05:20.600 It's a guide
00:05:21.600 On how to navigate the modern world
00:05:24.600 That's what it is
00:05:25.600 Then you have Dostoevsky
00:05:28.600 A look into the darkness of the human mind
00:05:32.600 Something else
00:05:33.600 Then you have Horus Heresy
00:05:35.600 Something to read and inspire you to, you know, pursue a heroic aesthetic
00:05:39.600 Then you have historical fiction by Conor Gilden
00:05:43.600 You get a good view on epic historical events
00:05:47.600 So you see, you have different books doing different things
00:05:50.600 Some teaches
00:05:52.600 Some books teach you certain things
00:05:54.600 Some other books, something else
00:05:56.600 But all books have in common that if you read
00:05:59.600 You train your mind to hold attention
00:06:01.600 And that is the main point of this video
00:06:03.600 I had to clickbait you into watching it
00:06:05.600 But it's so important that
00:06:07.600 You know, yeah, it had to be said
00:06:09.600 And of course, it doesn't sound as blackpilling as the death of Western civilization
00:06:14.600 But, you know, everything is connected to each other
00:06:17.600 You know, if we want to turn this ship around
00:06:19.600 We need to start with ourselves
00:06:20.600 And we can't save a civilization if we have attention spans that are completely destroyed
00:06:27.600 So anyway, that is my wisdom for the day
00:06:30.600 Get reading
00:06:32.600 A good rule is to read every other fiction
00:06:37.600 So you read one fiction book which inspires you to pursue a heroic aesthetic
00:06:43.600 Then you read something more
00:06:45.600 You know, a non-fiction book
00:06:47.600 So you enhance your knowledge in your mind
00:06:50.600 So anyway, that is what I wanted to say
00:06:53.600 Thank you for watching
00:06:55.600 And if you have watched to this stage
00:06:58.600 I salute you
00:07:00.600 Because it means that you have actually a better attention span
00:07:03.600 Than anyone who clicked away before the video was finished
00:07:08.600 XXO
00:07:09.600 Boom!
