00:00:00.560 All right, I am checking in from good old Sweden in June. Good place to be, Sweden, despite everything, still a nice place to be, especially in early summer.
00:00:09.800 Now, I thought to elaborate on something that I mentioned ever so briefly in a recent video titled I messed up, and that is creating something of value, creating something that goes beyond mere profit, mere money.
00:00:24.340 So, first and foremost, everyone needs money, just as everyone needs to eat. But money is not enough.
00:00:30.600 And if I want to give the best possible career advice to you, the best possible advice when it comes to a job, a vocation, everything like this, it's to make sure that you can create value beyond just money.
00:00:44.360 So, I will use a few examples to illustrate my point.
00:00:47.340 But imagine that you have a doctor, and he saves the life of a young child, a child of a couple that he knows.
00:00:55.700 Maybe they live in the same village or small town or something like that. Maybe in the same neighborhood.
00:01:01.160 For the rest of his life, he will have the added value of the knowledge that he helped to save this family from a great tragedy.
00:01:08.860 That is creating value beyond money.
00:01:11.740 So, yes, he will get his good salary, and he will also get the value, the reward, the knowledge that he has helped avoid a tragedy.
00:01:21.500 To use another example, if you have a carpenter, he gets a commission to renovate a house in his vicinity.
00:01:28.880 So, he will get the money, of course, and then he will have the added value, the added benefit of perhaps every once in a while walk past that house that he helped renovate.
00:01:39.500 And then he will say, yes, I did a good job here.
00:01:41.620 I'm happy of my craftsmanship here.
00:01:44.140 I'm happy about the added value I brought to this particular place.
00:01:48.840 And this is important.
00:01:50.260 It's extremely important when we're talking about creating a society built on love and not nihilism.
00:01:56.060 Because if you have a society of strangers where no one really cares about one another, then you don't have this sort of added value.
00:02:05.000 So, this is if you have a tight-knit community where people actually care about each other, it is good because people are not built to be alone.
00:02:13.880 It's a recipe for disaster.
00:02:15.740 It's a recipe for unhappiness.
00:02:17.340 And that is probably why so many people are unhappy now despite, you know, on paper more material wealth.
00:02:23.740 If we can even say that anymore, that's a different discussion, by the way.
00:02:27.360 But my point is that humans are created to live in a community where you actually care about each other, where you have a shared vision, a shared story, a shared future.
00:02:39.220 Everything like that.
00:02:40.060 That is how you create a good society.
00:02:41.740 So, if we permit ourselves to dream a bit, were I the political leader of Sweden, alongside our king, of course, then I would erect a grand temple to fray.
00:02:56.020 Now, everyone who works on that temple, everyone from the architect to the builder to the ones transporting material, it will be in stone, by the way.
00:03:08.100 It's more glorious than wood and it will be created in a neoclassical style.
00:03:13.660 It's simply more glorious.
00:03:14.860 Everyone who works on the temple, the ones who supply food, the ones who set up shop in the vicinity to supply everything needed for this grand construction project.
00:03:26.480 When this is done, everyone will take pride in it.
00:03:29.420 Everyone who contributed in an ever so small manner, everyone will still know, they will have the knowledge that, yes, they helped create this.
00:03:37.360 So, I actually use this as an example in Dauntless, the cathedral of Uppsala, that, you know, this magnificent, beautiful building, close to my own heart, of course, because I've spent a lot of time there and in the vicinity.
00:03:50.000 Everyone could look at that beautiful building and say, yeah, I was part of it.
00:03:53.960 Maybe you weren't the architect of it, but you helped in some capacity, at least.
00:03:58.700 And this also brings us into what is considered lowly jobs, simple jobs, maybe not so glamorous jobs, such as being a street cleaner or whatever.
00:04:11.220 Still, you can take pride in that profession because you know that you bring value to society, because you want to show a nice society to, maybe if tourists come to your city, your town, and they say, yeah, this is a well-maintained place.
00:04:26.960 Because these individuals who live here, people who live here, they should be proud of themselves.
00:04:31.600 So, you can have a, quote-unquote, lowly profession, but you can still gain value from it if you bring value, additional value, to society at large.
00:04:40.260 So, this is nationalism, by the way.
00:04:42.900 Nationalism means that you take pride in your nation because you contribute.
00:04:47.420 Some people contribute in a great way.
00:04:50.140 You know, you have geniuses and great architects and whatnot.
00:04:53.440 But these individuals, they're also dependent on the rest of society.
00:04:59.280 The farmer, the doctor, everyone else.
00:05:01.400 Everyone who contributes in a positive way to society can feel pride in the achievements of that society.
00:05:07.000 This is the foundation.
00:05:08.860 Now, on a personal note, I thought about this as well.
00:05:12.300 Thought to mention it, that I'm quite happy after all.
00:05:14.820 I've been demonetized for six years now on YouTube, meaning that I can't make money from making videos.
00:05:21.620 So, it doesn't really matter for me if a video reaches a thousand people or ten thousand or a hundred thousand in terms of only money.
00:05:28.680 It doesn't matter because I still don't get any ad revenue for it.
00:05:31.820 However, I can bring value with my podcast.
00:05:37.460 And I can also get an income from the podcast.
00:05:39.960 And there, I have to bring value, insights, knowledge, motivation.
00:05:45.680 I need to bring value.
00:05:47.020 I cannot rely on clickbaiting people, creating drama, black pills, outrage.
00:05:53.780 So, for me, actually, the choice is already made.
00:05:57.020 Otherwise, if you are a content creator, you have two options, basically.
00:05:59.560 Either you rely on ad revenue for monetization and then you want to get as many clicks as possible.
00:06:06.960 And then you rely on constantly getting a lot of attention, even though you might not have anything of value to say.
00:06:15.120 So, that is one path, which is not a very good path because you will not rely on creating actual value.
00:06:21.640 The second path is to create value that is good enough so people actually are willing to pay for it, such as my podcast.
00:06:28.660 So, if I may be so bold, it's a great podcast.
00:06:31.820 The greatest podcast, even.
00:06:33.740 Perhaps not the greatest, but it's quite good enough and I feel comfortable charging for it.
00:06:39.380 It's not a lot.
00:06:40.140 It's only three gold coins per month.
00:06:42.180 But still, it's a path I could take because I bring additional value.
00:06:47.200 And this also, beyond the profit of it, it also makes me feel good that I create a work of art.
00:06:53.360 So, a podcast episode, it's, for me, a work of art.
00:06:56.160 It needs to be good.
00:06:57.280 I need to, you know, put all of my thought process into it so I can present it to the world and say this is good value.
00:07:03.900 And this is the main teaching of this video.
00:07:06.100 That you do want to have a profession where you feel that no matter what you do, it can be a simple job or whatever it might be.
00:07:13.780 As long as you feel that you bring some sort of value to a community, to a people, to a nation, that is good.
00:07:21.280 And this also brings us into the point of, you know, a society of strangers versus a society where you actually care about each other.
00:07:30.480 A society of strangers is not good.
00:07:32.420 Now, of course, you can have exceptions such as a cosmopolitan city, a trading city, everything like that.
00:07:38.640 You have it historically as well where, yeah, you can be strangers, it's fine.
00:07:42.460 But for most people in most places, you do want to live in a community where you have some sort of shared interest with the people around you.
00:07:52.560 Where you have a shared destiny, a shared story, shared values, shared ethnicity, everything like that.
00:07:59.060 It's good. It's good for you to feel this way.
00:08:02.140 And it's good for society as well.
00:08:03.500 It's called creating a high-trust society.
00:08:05.820 And this, by the way, if we're talking about economy and money and business and everything like this, a high-trust society is great for business.
00:08:13.100 A low-trust society is absolutely horrendous for business.
00:08:17.100 So if you ever talk to one of these conservatives who are only concerned with GDP or whatever it might be, tell him or her that, you know, if you're so interested in economic development, yeah,
00:08:28.240 a homogenous society, a high-trust society is better for business.
00:08:32.500 So to conclude, the best possible advice I can give in terms of career, it's to choose something that you know that you can bring value beyond only money.
00:08:42.960 Because money is not enough.
00:08:44.820 That is not to say that money is bad or anything.
00:08:47.080 Money is great because you can do a lot of good things with money.
00:08:50.460 With great money, you can do a lot of good.
00:08:52.920 And that can also be, you know, a way for you to create values.
00:08:56.180 Even if you aren't happy with what you're working with, then use some of that money to create something good.
00:09:02.540 Like I talked about in a recent video, if you're very wealthy, yeah, then do support initiatives that you believe can bring about positive change.
00:09:11.140 And also important to notice that all jobs can be good if it helps create society, if it helps create society into something better.
00:09:20.000 So if someone says this is a lowly job or anything like that, don't view it like that.
00:09:24.760 Only view it in terms of does this actually make society better?
00:09:29.700 Yes or no?
00:09:30.440 A simple question.
00:09:31.400 A simple question indeed.
00:09:32.300 And true nationalism means that every productive member of society can take pride in the achievements of that society.
00:09:40.260 Because no man is an island.
00:09:42.460 And lastly, just one more example.
00:09:44.400 If you have one of these great construction endeavors, the creative energy going into that, it's an act of godliness.
00:09:52.980 The amount of creative energy shared with so many humans around you.
00:09:58.740 That is absolutely great.
00:10:00.560 Now we're getting into the more spiritual territory, but it's extremely good for the well-being of humans to be engaged in a great project together.
00:10:11.620 So a great number of humans coming together to create something great, that is, yeah, it's truly something special.
00:10:19.220 Now on a very last note, I will use an example that will also serve as the sponsor of this video.
00:10:26.100 We're of course talking about the greatest clothing brand, Legio Gloria.
00:10:29.480 It's something for me that is beyond mere money as well.
00:10:34.780 It's something that I take pride in when I wear the garments myself.
00:10:39.280 I choose the best possible garments and those are the garments of Legio Gloria.
00:10:43.920 If I see a stylish young man and he wears, you know, with a straight back and he looks confident and he wears Legio Gloria, it brings joy.
00:10:52.440 That is added value as a clothing designer that you see, guys, they look good in your clothes.
00:10:59.080 It's, yeah, it's truly something special.
00:11:01.820 So anyway, do subscribe to The Greatest Podcast.
