00:00:00.000Greetings, true friends. Today I want to elaborate upon the film Aquaman because I actually saw that a few weeks back.
00:00:07.300And the reason I saw it, the reason I saw a thing spawned out of Hollywood is that I need to stay updated upon these things
00:00:14.640because we are after all in the middle of a rather intense culture war so it's good to stay updated and to dissect these sort of things.
00:00:23.720So, and also, a little warning to everyone, once you start thinking about these type of themes in films it can be hard to ignore them
00:00:33.780so you might have been able to enjoy Hollywood movies before because you don't actively think about certain reoccurring themes
00:00:41.660but when you actively start thinking about them, yeah, it will detract some of the quality and you will start appreciating Hollywood movies less.
00:00:49.340But anyway, on to the film itself. I thought it was a great film. I might see it again at some stage
00:00:57.420but there were quite a few instances of Hollywood cancer and the usual Hollywood cancer.
00:01:04.460So first and foremost we have his parentage which is then a queen, looks like this
00:01:11.900and his father is a non-noble and someone who is from the land so it looks like this.
00:01:20.060A good actor otherwise which I like but I did not approve of this union between these two
00:01:26.620and it's obviously a tale of the queen is running away from the oppressive patriarchy in her home civilization in Atlantis
00:01:35.260and falls in love with this man from outside of her tribe so not particularly glorious at all.
00:01:42.780And this is also something that comes into my next point because you have two guys, Aquaman himself
00:01:50.140which I also like as an actor and everything like that. It's Khal Drogo and he's very charismatic and cool in the film as well.
00:01:58.540You know, a jacked barbarian going around being epic but he doesn't represent me of course
00:02:04.860but he represents something else and that is the other, the other who has a perspective that the other prince do not have.
00:02:12.860So if you look upon these two half-brothers, the white guy, the guy who looks like an elf sort of,
00:02:24.940However, I will say in the defense of the film that he does raise some very good points in terms of environmentalism
00:02:31.860because he says quite accurately that, you know, the people on the surface they are polluting our oceans
00:02:37.440and killing our friends which is the whales etc.
00:02:41.000So he does bring up some cool points and he isn't ultra evil either.
00:02:45.500It's just that he is not, you're supposed to root for Aquaman instead because obviously he's the main character.
00:02:51.800But the point here is that, a note on leadership, you have two guys, two brothers.
00:02:57.580One who in his defense, he says he doesn't want leadership, he doesn't want commander or anything like that.
00:03:03.120And the other guy, his younger half-brother, he's basically groomed since birth to become a prince, to become a ruler.
00:03:11.120He is trained since he was but a merry young boy to become a king.
00:03:15.460But in the film then, it tells that just because Aquaman has this unique perspective because of his birth,
00:03:22.920because of his birth from a queen of the sea and a common man of the land,
00:03:27.880he has this unique perspective that allows him to be better, just naturally better than the guy,
00:03:33.600his half-brother prince who's trained his entire life to be a certain role.
00:03:38.240And this is something very dangerous, this kind of thinking.
00:03:43.880Because it's first and foremost simply not true.
00:03:46.820Leadership is not something you're born with.
00:03:49.060Sure, you can be born with leadership qualities such as, you know, charisma, energy and everything like that.
00:03:55.460But when it comes to the more advanced aspects of leadership, it takes far more than that.
00:04:01.700You need to be very organized, you need to have a lot of training in these sort of things.
00:04:05.160And you need to be, from a somewhat early age, you need to be, grow in to that role.
00:04:11.380So it's quite unnatural that the guy, just because he has a different perspective, he has a unique perspective because he is mixed.
00:04:19.240Therefore, he has a better understanding of how to rule.
00:04:23.040And this is something, a theme that you might see in today's political discourse as well.
00:04:29.340When you see leftists saying, oh, we should let, in America, for example, we should let this Hispanic women rule because they have a unique perspective.
00:04:37.560And the white straight male, he has a bad perspective because of who he is.
00:04:41.700And it doesn't matter then that the white straight male has trained his entire life to be responsible and in a leadership position.
00:04:49.360It's all for nothing because he doesn't have this unique perspective.
00:04:52.880And it's also the matter of letting an outsider rule over, in this case, Atlantis.
00:04:58.620So Aquaman comes in as a semi-outsider into Atlantis to rule, whereas his half-brother has been there his entire life.
00:05:05.860So it's quite obvious that he is more suited to rule.
00:05:09.460And then also, it's, I won't spoil anything now because it's so obvious from the start,
00:05:14.060but the girl chooses Aquaman over his brother for whatever reason, I don't know why.
00:05:20.880But that was also one of these points I thought was a bit silly and Hollywood cancerous.
00:05:25.760But anyway, great film, a lot of Hollywood cancer.
00:05:29.100The most cancerous thing, I thought, was that, you know, leadership difference between someone who's just born with a different perspective
00:05:36.920versus someone who's actually trained for it his entire life.
00:05:40.020I'm sure you also, if you've seen it, you thought of more blasphemous things.
00:05:45.660But I just thought to mention that and, yeah, just wanted to share those thoughts with you.
00:05:50.580But then again, like in terms of the film, great scenes, great aesthetics,
00:05:56.020some good points in regards to environmentalism, etc.
