The Golden One - Assassin's Creed Odyssey - Part 5. Fighting the Cyclops and Book Recommendations

00:00:00.000 Greetings Laddingtons, welcome back to good old Hellas. Now I thought to take this opportunity

00:00:07.640 to climb this epic statue of Zeus Bra, Lightning Zeus, and we have a good epic night here in the

00:00:17.360 game. I also thought to elaborate on something about historic fiction. I will recommend a

00:00:29.980 certain author called Harry Sidebottom who is a historian who then turned to write historic

00:00:39.700 fiction. And I have said this before, I'll say it again, I do believe that historic fiction is one

00:00:45.020 of the best ways to get a good view of history perhaps. And the benefit obviously is that it's

00:00:53.620 much more fun to read historic fiction than to just read a history book. But then you can obviously

00:00:58.380 read regular history books as well to gain a good understanding. I will synchronize now

00:01:06.460 and then I will recommend two authors or three authors or more.

00:01:10.620 absolutely epic, absolutely beautiful.

00:01:19.660 Boom, there we are. And now comes the scary part.

00:01:32.080 I hope I won't die now. This is the first time I do this in this game. Right, we managed that.

00:01:41.300 Perfect. Now let us do the following. Let us adapt to pay.

00:01:52.800 The big break. Right, we'll head down there and...

00:02:00.880 Yes, also I did lower the graphic settings because my good old computer, it was simply not up to par

00:02:10.560 with the high demands of the game. I actually looked at this computer I'm playing at. Now it's from...

00:02:17.800 2012. So a lifetime ago. The graphics card is a bit newer though. It's a GeForce 1060. So I got that

00:02:30.020 last year. Now obviously I don't mind having a bit older computer when it comes to the gaming side of

00:02:35.800 things. But something I would say though is that when I render and edit training videos with high

00:02:42.120 quality video clips, that can be quite frustrating to say the least. So yeah, that is the computer situation.

00:02:53.720 So anyway, I mentioned Harry Sidebottom. I read a story about the Roman Empire in the 200s AD. There is a

00:03:05.080 Germanic protagonist called Marcus Ballista. So yeah, good story right there. I will continue after

00:03:16.440 talking to this shipbuilder. Sup mate?

00:03:21.720 It's a fine ship, Tally Menace. Alexios! She is that. Ready to ride the waves for the right captain

00:03:29.400 and the right price. I need to get off this island. I really need a boat, Tally Menace. Everyone in

00:03:38.520 Caffalonian needs a boat. Four facets on one. You've seen this shithole. All my life. Even if I had

00:03:45.080 the boat, who's going to row it? You. I'd give my left grape to see that. This is Caffalonian. I could always

00:03:53.240 find someone down on their luck and willing to work for next to nothing to get off this island. The seas

00:03:58.040 are treacherous now. Well, more than usual. It would be suicide. You're not being very helpful,

00:04:03.960 Tally Menace. Not sure if this helps, but rumor has it the Cyclops is coming for you and Marcos.

00:04:13.000 Rumors don't scare me. Rumors mean nothing. Don't believe everything you hear. Exactly.

00:04:18.040 Rumor also has it his ship is docked in Kleptus Bay. His ship, you say? I'll have to pay Kleptus

00:04:23.720 Bay and visit. Be careful. That one-eyed brute has a nasty temper.

00:04:31.000 Some general life advice. If you hear a rumor, it's probably not true. There's a distinct 0.88

00:04:41.640 possibility that it's absolutely not true if you hear a rumor. That was just a little side note.

00:04:50.680 So, let's talk about Marcus Ballista, the Germanic. He's actually an Angle from the Angle tribe, 0.81

00:04:57.000 but he is fighting in the Roman army. The book series is a few books. They go around doing certain

00:05:11.400 missions in the various Roman provinces. So, I can put up a picture of one of the books here on the screen,

00:05:23.800 so you can see what I'm talking about. So, that is one almost in this era. 700 years later than where

00:05:35.000 we are at right now, but Rome and Greece are similar enough, I suppose, to fit the bill. So, what I'm

00:05:43.480 doing is, usually if I'm playing a game such as this, I'd like to get in the mood even more by reading

00:05:53.320 some historic fiction. Yeah, Harry Sidebottom, a historian turned author. Well, most historians are

00:06:04.440 authors as well, but you know, writing historic fiction. So, I can definitely recommend those books.

00:06:10.760 I can also recommend... I'm just going to find this place. Boom, there we are.

00:06:23.640 Yes, let's illuminate this bastard. 0.99

00:06:30.120 Con Egilden. I have mentioned him many times before. I read a book from him in the summer 0.98

00:06:36.600 about Persians and Spartans. I will put this up on the screen here as well, so you can

00:06:43.160 see. That is a highly glorious book, I would say, and not the typical... I won't spoil anything,

00:06:52.280 but yeah, good book. There is the Cyclops. I have never heard so much god talk from one man in all my days.

00:07:15.480 Now we have a boxing match on our hands.

00:07:22.280 I really hurt your feelings. Don't like it when people call me that.

00:07:29.160 But you're so fat. I mean, big, strong, and you really do only have one eye. 0.88

00:07:44.440 Give it to me. Never.

00:07:46.440 And I won't kill Marcos for having you stealing. Give it to me.

00:07:50.440 Me! You want it?

00:08:00.840 Alright, I did not expect that. Go get it.

00:08:06.440 I did not expect that at all. That was a... a mad cant maneuver indeed.

00:08:12.120 Missed that completely. So, whoa. I have played a bit off the screen, so to speak, so I have a new armor.

00:08:23.480 But I just explored some of the island.

00:08:27.640 Well, I think we need to get out from here. Otherwise, we'll get illuminated now.

00:08:37.320 There we are. Nice Sparta kick.

00:08:40.040 I hope you all admired the... that kick, by the way.

00:08:44.600 Well, hopefully I won't die now.

00:08:46.360 Okay, power gaming mode on.

00:09:02.280 I will, ehm...

00:09:07.240 I will, ehm...

00:09:11.320 Ah, come on! 0.96

00:09:13.480 I think I will have to run away for a bit.

00:09:15.800 Come on, then. Go up. 0.88

00:09:17.720 And, eh, come back. 0.51

00:09:19.880 Otherwise, I will die. And then, eh, I have died two episodes in a row.

00:09:25.560 That will be highly inglorious.

00:09:28.360 Um...

00:09:30.040 Yes, Conny Gilden. New book.

00:09:32.600 And my personal philosophy when it comes to Conny Gilden is that I always read all of his books.

00:09:39.880 Simple as that.

00:09:41.880 If you haven't read any of his books, that is definitely something you should do.

00:09:47.880 Then also, special mention to Bernard Cornwell.

00:09:51.800 I mentioned him before as well.

00:09:53.000 Not really this era, but he writes mostly about British history.

00:09:56.840 I just thought to mention that.

00:09:59.880 So I have that said.

00:10:01.400 Then, lastly, I have a, ehm, recommendation.

00:10:05.080 And that is, eh, Alexander, God of War by Christian Cameron.

00:10:10.680 Now, Christian Cameron has written some other books as well, ehm, during the earlier Greek period.

00:10:19.720 I can link them, or not link, but put them up here on the screen, too, so you can see them.

00:10:23.560 Um, I do suspect that he, the author, is a bit of a liberal, though.

00:10:27.880 There are certain things which makes me, eh, which triggers my, eh, inner right-wing person, or whatever you want to call it.

00:10:38.520 Uh, but good books, anyway.

00:10:40.280 I think Alexander, God of War was really good, and, uh, the other books, they were good enough, and they are quite well written, and you get a good feel of, um, of the Greek world.

00:10:53.720 So that was my book tips, and, eh, if you don't already, if you aren't in the habit of reading, that's actually one of the best advice I can give, eh, to you if you, for general life enjoyment.

00:11:14.220 Oh, sorry, that was, uh, it was a goat.

00:11:20.020 I thought it was, uh, a dog.

00:11:23.040 Um, I'm sorry, goat, that was extremely silly of me. 0.88

00:11:26.020 I will say a prayer for him, too, at a later point.

00:11:29.620 But now we have this bustage to, um, illuminate.

00:11:33.600 So, also, I thought to mention another thing, and that is, I see a lot of comments, and this is probably, like, the third time I mention this, a lot of comments talking about the skin color of characters in this game.

00:11:48.040 But if you want to aim criticism at something, do it at the amount of, um, female, female bandits. 0.91

00:11:58.760 That's something that is very historically inaccurate, if something, if anything.

00:12:05.400 Now, let's see here.

00:12:07.700 Boom.

00:12:08.980 I had to do it.

00:12:16.320 Is this guy sleeping? 0.99

00:12:18.040 I'm doing his, I'm doing the Cyclops a favor by killing that, uh, that individual who was sleeping on, uh, on guard duty. 0.93

00:12:27.520 If, uh, someone had done that in the Roman army, they would have been, uh, well, killed. 0.63

00:12:39.780 Now, let's see, I want to illuminate this guy.

00:12:48.040 Ah-ha, I couldn't sneak up.

00:12:59.820 Ah, no, I caught fire as well.

00:13:03.280 Not good.

00:13:04.620 Not good at all.

00:13:08.000 Right, I edited quickly, and, uh, we're back at it.

00:13:12.040 Hit.

00:13:16.340 There we are.

00:13:21.760 Ooh.

00:13:24.820 Trying to engage power gaming mode now.

00:13:28.920 And that means

00:13:30.000 that this 0.99

00:13:32.060 guy will have to die. 0.97

00:13:34.000 I'm gonna see if I can make some sort of air 1.00

00:13:36.420 assassination of him. 0.93

00:13:45.200 Boom, there we are.

00:13:46.780 And something fun to loot, too.

00:13:50.960 Nice.

00:13:51.400 Ah, someone's sleeping.

00:13:59.600 They should not

00:14:00.460 have been doing that.

00:14:04.560 They paid, uh,

00:14:06.020 he paid the ultimate price

00:14:07.200 for, uh,

00:14:10.140 neglecting his, uh, duties.

00:14:11.680 And, is that actually

00:14:22.420 the Cyclops?

00:14:24.540 Yes, it is.

00:14:25.840 See if we can

00:14:26.780 stealth attack.

00:14:32.480 Yes.

00:14:33.720 Go on, mate.

00:14:35.020 Get at them, boys.

00:14:36.480 Yes, there we are.

00:14:37.400 This used to be a nice village.

00:14:39.140 But now it's just

00:14:40.620 a nest of anarchy 1.00

00:14:41.680 and crap. 1.00

00:14:42.160 A nest of anarchy 1.00

00:14:43.140 that is something

00:14:44.380 we cannot have.

00:14:46.300 Hello, bruv.

00:14:48.560 I have

00:14:49.340 freed you.

00:14:51.720 We shouldn't

00:14:52.220 delay here any further. 0.71

00:14:54.260 Even rats like these 0.91

00:14:55.560 have friends on 0.94

00:14:56.360 Kefalonia.

00:14:57.780 By Zeus,

00:14:58.880 these Kefalonian

00:15:00.000 bandits are no joke.

00:15:01.440 That is true,

00:15:02.200 my man.

00:15:03.520 Don't worry, mate.

00:15:04.180 I have

00:15:04.520 I have this

00:15:06.200 individual.

00:15:09.140 Oh, there's

00:15:15.460 two, uh,

00:15:16.860 two bosses here.

00:15:26.600 Uh, the guy we, uh,

00:15:29.240 saved was a bit 1.00

00:15:30.060 of a mad cunt. 1.00

00:15:31.240 I see. 1.00

00:15:31.660 That's nice.

00:15:39.140 Ah, not again.

00:15:41.000 Not again.

00:15:42.680 That's 0.99

00:15:43.140 absolutely ridiculous. 0.97

00:15:47.120 Okay, nice.

00:15:49.580 Hello, mate. 0.99

00:15:55.880 Die, unbeliever. 1.00

00:15:59.720 Unbelievers are the worst. 1.00

00:16:00.800 Come back here. 0.99

00:16:01.800 Boom, there we are.

00:16:14.540 Absolutely glorious.

00:16:16.960 So, anyway,

00:16:18.320 yet another thing

00:16:19.220 I thought to just

00:16:20.160 mention.

00:16:21.560 I lament the fact that

00:16:23.120 a lot of mainstream

00:16:24.460 movies,

00:16:25.480 films,

00:16:25.980 aren't

00:16:26.360 as glorious,

00:16:27.940 but obviously

00:16:29.300 Gladiator.

00:16:31.520 Um,

00:16:32.060 not Hellenic,

00:16:33.020 but Roman film.

00:16:34.560 One of the greatest

00:16:35.400 films of all time.

00:16:41.820 I haven't watched that

00:16:42.940 in a very long time.

00:16:45.260 Maybe it's, um,

00:16:46.460 time for me to do so

00:16:47.540 soon.

00:16:51.940 Beautiful film indeed.

00:16:54.080 Alright, mate.

00:16:54.660 Let's get out

00:16:55.380 over here.

00:16:57.940 I think we got

00:17:04.460 some nice loot

00:17:05.380 from the Cyclops too.

00:17:07.000 So I will, uh,

00:17:08.340 have get that

00:17:08.820 after this, um,

00:17:10.620 dialogue,

00:17:11.400 I suppose.

00:17:16.580 I can't thank you enough.

00:17:18.660 After spending

00:17:19.560 most of my life

00:17:20.500 at sea,

00:17:21.200 it would have been

00:17:22.080 absolutely shameful

00:17:23.420 to drown in a plot.

00:17:24.400 Indeed.

00:17:25.320 It would actually 0.67

00:17:26.000 have been a bit silly.

00:17:26.880 Ah, 0.96

00:17:27.080 where are my manners?

00:17:29.060 I am Varnavas,

00:17:30.640 captain

00:17:30.980 of the Andrestia.

00:17:33.100 Well, Varnavas,

00:17:34.340 pleased to meet you.

00:17:35.640 I'm Alexios,

00:17:36.820 Mistyos by trade. 1.00

00:17:38.320 Ha ha ha!

00:17:40.120 Oh,

00:17:40.840 but you're much more

00:17:41.920 than that,

00:17:42.480 I'm sure.

00:17:43.300 What do you mean?

00:17:44.980 When they forced

00:17:45.960 my head underwater,

00:17:47.460 I prayed to the gods,

00:17:48.980 and when they pulled it out,

00:17:50.720 there you were.

00:17:51.540 I am the answer

00:17:56.640 to your prayers.

00:17:58.720 You called,

00:17:59.760 and I answered.

00:18:01.100 Many claim to have

00:18:02.420 blood of the gods

00:18:03.500 in their veins.

00:18:05.180 You're the first

00:18:06.200 I actually believe.

00:18:07.680 How did the fight start?

00:18:13.860 So why were those men

00:18:15.160 attacking you?

00:18:16.060 Oh,

00:18:16.440 you know the people here.

00:18:18.200 No offense.

00:18:19.380 I tell them a tale

00:18:20.440 of my last voyage,

00:18:21.880 and the next thing I know,

00:18:23.460 they're acting like 0.98

00:18:24.260 a bunch of savages. 0.89

00:18:25.720 What tale could you tell

00:18:27.540 that would make them

00:18:28.460 so angry?

00:18:29.240 My last voyage,

00:18:31.160 we found a man

00:18:32.000 floating alone

00:18:32.940 on a raft.

00:18:33.640 Before he passed,

00:18:35.760 he told us a tale

00:18:37.020 to make your blood

00:18:38.020 run cold.

00:18:39.620 Something about

00:18:40.340 a horrifying creature,

00:18:42.000 ugly beyond description.

00:18:44.000 I mentioned the words

00:18:45.280 One-Eyed Monster.

00:18:47.960 Next thing I know,

00:18:49.360 I'm drowning

00:18:50.100 in a clay pot.

00:18:51.660 Yes,

00:18:52.280 the Cyclops

00:18:52.860 tends to take that personally.

00:18:56.300 Alright,

00:18:57.460 where art thou from,

00:18:59.260 mate?

00:19:00.420 Where do you come from?

00:19:02.320 Everywhere,

00:19:02.840 nowhere,

00:19:03.640 nowhere.

00:19:04.400 The Adrestia

00:19:05.120 is my home.

00:19:06.180 But I was born

00:19:07.000 in an olive grove

00:19:08.100 in Mykonos.

00:19:09.400 I haven't stemmed foot

00:19:10.480 there since I left

00:19:11.420 for the military.

00:19:12.620 So you're a soldier?

00:19:14.100 I was.

00:19:15.140 My brothers and I

00:19:16.080 were captains

00:19:16.760 in the Athenian fleet

00:19:17.780 until one night

00:19:19.080 during a siege,

00:19:20.340 Poseidon's fury

00:19:21.320 destroyed our ships.

00:19:23.480 That was the night

00:19:24.320 I saw it.

00:19:26.880 What did you see,

00:19:27.780 mate?

00:19:28.760 It?

00:19:30.240 What did you see?

00:19:31.100 The Sea God

00:19:32.400 commands more

00:19:33.320 than just the winds

00:19:34.280 and the waves

00:19:35.060 when he truly

00:19:35.900 unleashes his temper.

00:19:38.900 I saw his beast, 0.55

00:19:41.120 his murderous pet.

00:19:43.440 Few believe me,

00:19:44.860 but this dead eye

00:19:46.160 is a permanent reminder.

00:19:48.520 Punishment for looking

00:19:49.640 on Poseidon's

00:19:50.760 forbidden creature

00:19:51.680 and living

00:19:52.920 to tell the tale.

00:19:54.120 Hmm, but what creature

00:19:56.800 might it have been?

00:19:58.240 Anyway, tell me

00:19:59.200 about thy ship.

00:20:00.220 So you have a ship?

00:20:02.300 Of course.

00:20:03.860 Gods forbid

00:20:04.720 I'd end up stuck

00:20:05.740 in this place.

00:20:06.840 Where is it now?

00:20:07.940 Thanks to you,

00:20:08.960 it's still in

00:20:09.640 Sami Harbor

00:20:10.400 where I left it.

00:20:13.500 I could use

00:20:14.580 thy help now.

00:20:16.580 Perhaps the fates

00:20:17.620 brought us together

00:20:18.500 after all.

00:20:19.780 I'm in need of a ship

00:20:21.000 and the crew.

00:20:22.420 Ha ha ha!

00:20:23.820 You saved my life!

00:20:25.880 It would disgust

00:20:26.760 the gods

00:20:27.340 to not offer it

00:20:28.280 in return!

00:20:29.340 So, that's a yes?

00:20:31.040 My ship,

00:20:32.080 my crew,

00:20:36.600 from around here.

00:20:38.000 Ha ha! 0.86

00:20:40.000 And I thank them

00:20:40.980 for that!

00:20:41.960 Come now

00:20:42.620 and see the Adrestia!

00:20:47.460 Wonderful.

00:20:48.140 All right.

00:20:50.980 So,

00:20:51.940 let us

00:20:53.920 go there.

00:21:08.220 Let's

00:21:08.780 go with that

00:21:09.920 and then we have

00:21:10.480 a new

00:21:10.940 no, that's level 8

00:21:12.800 so we can't

00:21:13.360 have that yet.

00:21:14.120 Alright, cool.

00:21:22.680 And I think

00:21:23.540 I will actually

00:21:24.460 do the following

00:21:25.540 that I will leave

00:21:26.400 this episode

00:21:27.800 right here

00:21:29.640 and

00:21:32.200 do the following
