00:00:00.000 Greetings, my esteemed subscribers. Today I thought to chime in to a rather controversial topic, that of veganism.
00:00:12.800 And as you've noticed, my comment section is temporarily opened, and that is because I think it is only fair that both vegans and meat eaters can have their say in this important discussion.
00:00:27.040 But a word of warning, though, if you can't conduct yourself in your writing as a gentleman, I will delete your comment and block you.
00:00:36.140 I don't really have the time to moderate my comment section, but I will do it because I think it's an important enough topic to discuss.
00:00:45.480 Because if we can exchange insights, we might reach further enlightenment.
00:00:50.400 But, again, be courteous and polite to everyone in the comment section, and your comment will remain.
00:00:58.820 If you can't do that, then either don't comment at all, or your comment will disappear.
00:01:06.160 Now, a brief history of my own channel.
00:01:10.560 This channel actually started as a fitness channel about six long years ago.
00:01:16.740 So, it's been a glorious journey indeed.
00:01:21.480 And about three years ago, I started getting more interested in veganism, because it appealed to me.
00:01:28.080 It appealed with the religious fanaticism, because you have to understand, first and foremost, that veganism is a cult.
00:01:36.040 It's a religion of sorts.
00:01:37.700 But I don't have anything against religious cults.
00:01:39.880 I think it's good that people believe in something.
00:01:44.160 And as a friend of Mother Earth, and of the animals, to a certain extent at least, I thought it was appealing.
00:01:51.460 And I thought the vegans, they did something.
00:01:54.980 They had a cause, at least.
00:01:58.180 Most people in the modern world do not have this.
00:02:00.900 So, ultimately, it was something that I thought was interesting to delve deeper into.
00:02:06.160 And since I came from a fitness-oriented or a bodybuilding-oriented perspective to begin with, I viewed veganism in such a way as well.
00:02:17.500 And then I said in a video about three years ago that, of course, you can eat veganism, because it is only about getting enough protein in, and you can build a lot of muscle on carbohydrates.
00:02:30.100 And for you who have been with me for quite some time, you know that I made some Games Kitchen videos on vegan recipes, etc.
00:02:38.420 Because I thought it was, as I said, interesting, and it was worth delving deeper into.
00:02:44.180 But now, three years later, I have changed my mind, and I can't, in good conscience, endorse veganism any longer.
00:02:51.640 But if you are a vegan, and if you are feeling fine with that, I don't want to take that away from you.
00:02:57.600 These are just my thoughts, this is my perspective.
00:03:00.800 So, again, this is up for discussion.
00:03:04.180 If you want to share your comments, your thoughts, you can do so below.
00:03:09.100 But that was my starting position.
00:03:11.140 I thought it was a good initiative with veganism, and viewing it from a fitness perspective, absolutely, it's congruent with building muscle and gaining strength.
00:03:20.420 So, if we look upon carbohydrates, and I will make a separate video on this later on, because usually if you talk about veganism, the conflict between carbohydrates and fats are, it's quite interlinked with the conflict between meat eaters and vegans.
00:03:38.680 And I will say that carbs, carbohydrates, are for fueling your athletic performance in the Temple of Iron or in any other sports activities.
00:03:48.700 That's the primary use for carbohydrates.
00:03:52.080 I don't eat that many carbohydrates if I don't train.
00:03:55.840 Simple as that.
00:03:56.740 So, if you're only out for health and cognitive abilities, etc., it's better if you focus on fats and protein.
00:04:05.480 And also, since I came from the more performance and bodybuilding perspective upon veganism, I only viewed it in terms of macros, etc.
00:04:14.780 I didn't really view the other, the mental aspect of food, the other physical and biological aspects of food.
00:04:22.600 So, to take an example, we can talk about teeth health.
00:04:25.580 And I've made a video on Dr. Weston Price and his teachings and his findings said that the modern world, a lot of people have really bad teeth because they eat a lot of carbohydrates, whereas the more primitive populations, they have good teeth health because they eat more meat and animal fats.
00:04:46.780 And I would say it's, to a large extent, the same thing today.
00:04:51.560 And for me, I never want to be someone who points to one single example and say, oh, this guy got bad teeth from veganism.
00:05:00.180 But if we come to a point where it's a reoccurring trend, where there is a lot of vegans who say the same thing after a few years, yeah, it might be something to take into consideration.
00:05:11.860 And not only about teeth health, but also about general well-being and, not least, mental well-being.
00:05:18.980 And they report when they started eating meat again, it all cleared up.
00:05:22.980 So, that might be something to keep in mind, look upon a reoccurring pattern among former vegans.
00:05:30.480 What do they say?
00:05:32.040 Are these testimonials congruent with each other?
00:05:35.620 And if they are, yes, what might be the cause of it?
00:05:39.060 So, that's something else also that during these three years I have been looking more deeply into veganism.
00:05:46.320 I have obviously taken these sort of things into account.
00:05:51.240 So, that's one aspect, my journey towards veganism and then away from veganism again.
00:05:59.300 But, that being said, I encourage you to do your own research.
00:06:03.000 Listen to what former vegans or current vegans are saying.
00:06:07.760 There are a lot of good right-wing vegans that you can listen to.
00:06:11.900 But, that was my own personal experience with studying veganism, as it were, and my own perspective.
00:06:17.980 Why I endorsed it before and I don't endorse it any longer.
00:06:20.860 So, to conclude, I endorsed it because I liked the fact that these people, they had a cause they were passionate about.
00:06:29.060 It could be applied to a strength training lifestyle and it seemed like a good community.
00:06:36.440 Then, of course, as of late, I've noticed that vegans are very pleasant when you are showing an inclination towards veganism.
00:06:44.400 But, when you start saying other things, they become quite unpleasant, to say the least.
00:06:50.600 I don't know if that's something to do with the vegan diet, that you become very unpleasant after a while.
00:06:55.720 But, that is something I've noticed as well.
00:06:58.020 A lot of vegans aren't particularly pleasant people, unfortunately.
00:07:02.600 Because I do think they come from a good place, originally speaking.
00:07:06.360 Now, on to the moral question.
00:07:10.180 I personally have absolutely no problem at all with killing.
00:07:13.480 I don't think there is anything wrong with killing animals or humans.
00:07:17.480 And even if we're talking about we want the best for animals,
00:07:20.660 I think it's absolutely reasonable to demand that animals are being treated well and with respect during their lives.
00:07:27.860 But, they will die eventually anyway.
00:07:29.860 So, I don't see any moral fault with eating animals.
00:07:35.560 And, I will say though, I live in Sweden.
00:07:38.240 Our cows have supreme conditions.
00:07:40.520 I've grown up in the countryside.
00:07:41.840 I know exactly how they're being treated.
00:07:44.940 They're being treated with utmost care and love.
00:07:47.240 Not the same thing in America.
00:07:48.500 So, if I had lived in America, I perhaps would have been vegan to 90% just to avoid the support in industry that commits such gruesome things.
00:07:58.140 But, if you want to use those vegan arguments in Sweden, simply not the case.
00:08:02.200 Simply doesn't work.
00:08:03.460 I know full well how our cows are being treated.
00:08:06.200 And, yeah, as I said, it's very good.
00:08:08.140 So, those arguments, it depends on where you are.
00:08:11.440 But, in regards to eating meat, I don't have any problem with things dying.
00:08:16.720 Same thing with hunting.
00:08:17.920 I think it's absolutely reasonable and respectful to kill an animal in the wild and eat it because it will die anyway eventually.
00:08:25.780 And, there is also the need to control populations because if there is an overpopulation of deer in a certain area or wild boar in a certain area, they will completely destroy the ecosystem.
00:08:36.840 So, it's also something that we as apex predators have to take the responsibility of ensuring a good balance in the ecosystem.
00:08:45.260 So, that's the moral argument.
00:08:48.420 And, then, also, in regards to the environmentalist argument, and this is something I think perhaps is the most interesting and important thing.
00:08:56.460 And, that is, if we're looking in Sweden, some people say that you should grow your own food.
00:09:02.200 Yeah, good luck.
00:09:03.280 We have winter, like, seven or eight months a year.
00:09:07.220 We can't grow things particularly well here in Sweden.
00:09:11.220 Evolutionary speaking, we've had a need to rely upon animal foods.
00:09:16.020 Same thing today.
00:09:16.820 And, if you look upon what's the most nationalist thing to do, is it importing tofu and quinoa from halfway across the world, or is it supporting your local farmer by buying his meat and milk?
00:09:28.900 Yes, it is obviously to support your local economy, to support your local farmer.
00:09:33.620 And, also, if we're looking at the emission of carbon dioxide, same thing.
00:09:39.680 It takes more CO2 to transport these colonial wares to Sweden than it does to have animal farming here in Sweden.
00:09:49.080 So, the environmentalist argument is in favor of eating locally produced dairy products and meat and eggs, etc.
00:09:59.020 That being said, I do think it's a good idea to grow some of your own food.
00:10:03.460 But, in Sweden, in Scandinavia, it's simply not realistic to do so at a larger scale.
00:10:08.780 Because we need animal products.
00:10:10.080 And, also, lastly, if we look upon it, evolutionary speaking, surviving the Ice Age and everything like that in Northern Europe,
00:10:20.320 yes, we have needed to eat a lot of meat, a lot of animal fats, a lot of things that come from animals.
00:10:27.840 Simple as that.
00:10:28.640 It's not something I am going to ignore.
00:10:30.520 I know my ancestors ate it quite well.
00:10:33.200 They thrived upon it, and it is probably a good idea to eat somewhat in accord with how they eat.
00:10:41.580 And, I'm absolutely not saying that you have to do everything like your ancestors did.
00:10:45.800 But, it can be something to keep in mind how we are evolutionary suited.
00:10:51.700 So, that was my thoughts on veganism.
00:10:55.340 I am absolutely certain that I missed a ton of arguments and topics.
00:11:00.000 But, I'm not disavowing veganism completely.
00:11:03.700 If someone asks me, do I recommend a vegan diet, I'm going to say no.
00:11:07.520 If you do want to be a vegan, fine, go ahead.
00:11:10.840 It's not my business.
00:11:12.460 It's completely up to you.
00:11:13.620 I would say, though, that it's probably recommended that you go 90% vegan,
00:11:19.000 and then you have one meal of some sort of meat or animal fats a week.
00:11:25.320 So, thank you for watching.
00:11:27.740 And, if you are waiting until the end of the video to comment,
00:11:32.500 I tip my pickle halber to you, then you are the best of subscribers.
00:11:36.860 That is very good.
00:11:38.380 Usually, people comment first and then watch the video.
00:11:41.040 So, a shout-out to you if you comment after watching the video.
00:11:45.940 Now, I'm going to hit the gym to do some deadlifts for Thor.
00:11:50.520 XXO, boom!
00:11:51.700 So, I'm going to hit the gym.
