00:00:00.000 Greetings Laddingtons, I wanted to prove a point.
00:00:28.000 And the point I wanted to prove is that it's okay to be a beginner.
00:00:33.000 Now, I posted recently, as you probably have seen already, I posted a few paintings to social media.
00:00:41.000 Now, before I began to paint my first painting, I said no matter how it turns out, I will post this to social media
00:00:51.000 to make myself accountable and to prove a point.
00:00:56.000 So I did it to show to you that it's okay to not be good in the beginning.
00:01:03.000 Now, of course, yeah, I can honestly say I'm not overly happy with it.
00:01:08.000 And yeah, we can all say it's not a particularly nice painting.
00:01:12.000 My second, third and fourth are all paintings that I am satisfied with.
00:01:20.000 And that's ultimately my pointer as well, that it should be satisfying to you.
00:01:24.000 So basically what I did was I set a starting point, which is my first painting.
00:01:33.000 Then I said to myself, okay, I need to learn, improve.
00:01:37.000 That's the starting point.
00:01:39.000 So whenever you undertake something, don't expect anything to be perfect in the first place.
00:01:45.000 And I know this is quite common for guys who go into the gym.
00:01:49.000 They want everything to be 100% perfect before they start.
00:01:53.000 But it's a faulty attitude because you will learn a lot as you go.
00:01:59.000 So you have to start first and then you learn as you progress.
00:02:03.000 So don't fall for the paralysis by analysis.
00:02:08.000 It's more common than you think.
00:02:10.000 So basically, I also, I have a good friend who's an artist.
00:02:15.000 I painted with him and he said, just do something.
00:02:20.000 Don't think too much, just paint and then you will learn.
00:02:24.000 So the initial key then is to just get, you know, familiar with the brushes,
00:02:30.000 with the paints, with the canvas, with the procedure.
00:02:34.000 Now to translate this into a gym metaphor, get acquainted with the barbell,
00:02:39.000 with the gym itself, with the routines, how it feels.
00:02:43.000 Then you can add on additional knowledge to your quest.
00:02:48.000 Now also, I want to give a shout out to everyone who commented nice things on my social media posts.
00:02:54.000 Especially on the first one who said, you know, this is a good first attempt.
00:02:58.000 This also shows something I have said on numerous occasions.
00:03:02.000 That I have a very good fan base.
00:03:05.000 Because many of you, you understood why I posted it.
00:03:08.000 I didn't post it as a first painting to show, oh, how great this result is.
00:03:13.000 I posted it as to mark.
00:03:16.000 This is my starting point.
00:03:18.000 This is where I start.
00:03:19.000 Now I know what to improve on for coming paintings.
00:03:23.000 Same thing for you.
00:03:25.000 I've said this before when it comes to posting physique.
00:03:28.000 It's not about showing, oh, I have the perfect physique right now.
00:03:32.000 It's about the journey.
00:03:33.000 It's about you can show that you have progressed.
00:03:36.000 You've done something better for next time.
00:03:38.000 Now, to give yet another example, I can talk about martial arts, of course.
00:03:44.000 You might feel that you are completely out of your elements if you go in to grapple or to box or whatever it might be.
00:03:54.000 Then again, no one expects you to be good on your first session.
00:03:58.000 It might look completely ridiculous as you try to figure out the footwork and the head movement or whatever.
00:04:08.000 It's supposed to look bad in the beginning and no one will fault you for it.
00:04:13.000 Just as my painting here wasn't perfect.
00:04:17.000 It's fine.
00:04:18.000 Everyone understands that's where you begin.
00:04:20.000 Now, it might sound really obvious, everything I'm saying here, but I see it too often that guys are too afraid to start, too afraid to get out of their comfort zone.
00:04:32.000 So, for example, if you are a naturally skinny guy and you say, you know, the gym isn't for me because I am not about that or whatever,
00:04:41.000 you're missing out on a whole host of health benefits, which are too many to cover in a video.
00:04:51.000 There are entire channels only dedicated to listing health benefits that you get from the gym.
00:04:58.000 And I don't want you to miss out on that because you think that, oh, I look so skinny, I go into the gym and I see all of these jacked guys.
00:05:07.000 You shouldn't compare yourself to those, just as I don't compare myself to Michelangelo when I paint.
00:05:15.000 I just paint because it brings me satisfaction and it's a nice thing to do.
00:05:20.000 It brings me joy to my soul.
00:05:22.000 So that's something to keep in mind as well, that you don't always need to compare yourself to others.
00:05:26.000 You don't need to feel like people are watching and judging you.
00:05:30.000 They might judge you to a certain extent, but usually people care mostly about themselves.
00:05:36.000 And as I mentioned in a recent video, as long as you conduct yourself in a polite and friendly manner, it's all good.
00:05:44.000 Now, something else I thought to mention is that I see a lot of guys who are good at something.
00:05:51.000 They are reluctant to try out new things because they don't want to be a beginner again.
00:05:58.000 They want to be a big fish in a small pond.
00:06:01.000 It can be comfortable, of course, but it can also limit your growth if you think that way.
00:06:06.000 So if you are the strongest guy in the gym, you are hesitant to try out martial arts because perhaps you will get mugged by someone in grappling or whatever.
00:06:18.000 Then you have to leave your ego at the door and acknowledge the fact that, yeah, now I am a beginner again.
00:06:26.000 And that's completely fine.
00:06:28.000 It's okay to be a beginner if you progress and improve yourself.
00:06:33.000 That's also our main point here is that I'm not saying it's okay to be bad.
00:06:41.000 I'm saying it's okay to be bad at the first time.
00:06:44.000 So my painting, I did, I wouldn't have wanted any good comments if I said I will leave it at this.
00:06:53.000 This is okay.
00:06:54.000 It's only okay because it was my first painting.
00:06:57.000 It wouldn't be okay if it was my second or third because then I would be complacent.
00:07:02.000 I wouldn't be dedicated to bettering myself.
00:07:05.000 So that's very important for me to point out.
00:07:08.000 So I'm not saying that you're good the way you are.
00:07:11.000 Your art is good the way it is.
00:07:13.000 Your physique is good the way it is.
00:07:15.000 I'm not saying any of that.
00:07:16.000 I'm saying that you must begin somewhere and the beginning doesn't need to be perfect.
00:07:22.000 As long as you have that as a starting point and from there you continue to go forward.
00:07:29.000 So again, whatever you do, start.
00:07:33.000 And then once you've started you will have a ton of questions which will be answered along the way.
00:07:40.000 Because it will become more natural for you to learn these things as you go.
00:07:46.000 So just as I start with a painting, I learn, I get familiar with the brushes, with the paints, with everything.
00:07:55.000 Then I learn and then I can be better.
00:07:57.000 Same thing for you.
00:07:59.000 And yeah, I hope I showed that I wasn't afraid to post to the world a less than aesthetically pleasing painting.
00:08:09.000 I did it to prove a point and of course now it feels really fun to paint.
00:08:16.000 So I will continue to do it.
00:08:18.000 Good times, good times.
00:08:20.000 So anyway, thank you for watching.
00:08:22.000 If you haven't read Dauntless already, do so.
