Julius Evola is one of the most famous Italian aristocrat, philosopher, writer, and philosopher. He was a man of many talents, but one of his greatest gifts was his ability to bring people together through his teachings. In this episode, I discuss why you should not begin with "Ride the Tiger" or "Revolt Against the Modern World" and why you shouldn't start with it at all.
00:01:39.620It has the coolest title, Ride the Tiger, and the teaching itself is quite profound indeed.
00:01:45.040But the rest of the book is, in my humble opinion, not super interesting and not a good starting place for Eunice Evola.
00:01:53.980So this is something you can read later on when you become a connoisseur of the teachings of Evola.
00:02:00.620So I read this the first time in 2016.
00:02:03.620I didn't understand anything of it, so I was sort of dismayed.
00:02:09.360I had hoped for more, but then I returned to it several years later.
00:02:13.320I think it was in 2022, something like that.
00:02:16.120I read it, I understood more of it, but I also understood then that this is not the best place to start.
00:02:21.760So, yes, save this for later. There are also better books of Evola.
00:02:26.960Now, moving on to another book, which you should not start with.
00:02:32.000And this is his Magnum Opus, Revolt Against the Modern World.
00:02:35.740So this is maybe his most famous one, the masterpiece, so to speak, probably the thickest one as well.
00:02:43.320Now, I would not start with this. This is something you can read later on.
00:02:48.460You have the same teachings. So, many of his teachings, you see them in most of his books, but then in different contexts.
00:02:56.120So, when you read this, if you've read a few different books before reading this, it will be easier to sort of digest and absorb the knowledge therein.
00:03:05.360So, I would not recommend starting with this. It's a good book, but not the best place to start.
00:03:11.180So then, on to the question at hand, where to actually start with Evola?
00:03:16.760Now, to respond to this question, we need to first and foremost acknowledge the following.
00:03:21.400This is only my own take, it's only my own humble opinion, so feel free to disagree here if you want.
00:03:28.180But I don't read Julius Evola for his political commentary.
00:03:32.340I think you have better authors for that, and especially nowadays we have a completely different political scenario.0.97
00:03:39.960So you might have guys, they refer to Evola and they say, you know, politics is bread and games for the plebs and everything like that.
00:05:53.200Now, if you're not primarily interested in magic, you have a good starting point in metaphysics of war.
00:05:59.200So this is a good starting point if you're interested in things like Jihad, Holy War, the Crusades, and the pagan conception of war.
00:06:10.000So I've talked about this before, that the Crusades were more a Christian aesthetic, for sure, with the direction and the aesthetics of having crosses on.
00:06:18.460But if you dig a bit deeper, it is a pagan conception of war with Holy War.
00:06:23.480So you do something in the temporal world, and that also echoes in the metaphysical realm.
00:06:30.180So you conquer the outside world, and you also conquer yourself.
00:06:34.120So if that sounds interesting, I would recommend this.
00:06:36.680It's quite short also, so it's something you can get through in a reasonable time frame.
00:06:42.840So this can be a good starting point, metaphysics of war.
00:06:46.160Also, if you're interested in the religious attitudes,
00:06:49.800pagan imperialism, one of his earlier works, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Perhaps if you're
00:06:55.580active on X, you see many Euro-federalists, imperialists, pan-European imperialists,
00:07:02.300pagan pan-European imperialists, such as myself. So this can be a good starting point here.
00:07:08.680Also, his critique of Christianity. He grew up as a Catholic, but then he turned to paganism
00:07:15.220because he thought it was more ideal for his worldview.
00:07:19.960So that can be a good starting point also,
00:07:22.060especially then if you're more interested in the religious teachings of Julius Evola.
00:07:27.420Another good starting point, Metaphysics of Power.
00:07:30.600It's a collection of essays, and many of them are very interesting indeed.
00:07:34.360So in this book, for example, he talks about his teaching on the race of body,
