00:00:00.000 END
00:00:30.000 Greetings, my esteemed subscribers, and happy new year.
00:00:44.920 First and foremost, I had a little YouTube break because I needed to take care of other
00:00:51.120 business, so I have it done at the start of the year, so I can just continue the video
00:00:56.520 production as per usual afterwards, so I'll make this video, then I might make the next
00:01:02.560 video in one or two weeks or something, but after that it's full steam ahead again, and
00:01:09.040 I thought to make this video because it's such a sort of commonly asked question, especially
00:01:13.700 in the beginning of the year, so you might start something new next week, I think a lot
00:01:19.640 of the semesters are beginning, well, this week or next week, the week after that, so
00:01:25.380 the commonly asked question is, of course, which martial arts should you train?
00:01:31.360 Now, before I respond to the question at hand, I would also like to aware you all of the fact
00:01:36.440 that I do have opened up the online coaching again if you're looking to get into a solid
00:01:42.040 gym routine, so first link in the description box below.
00:01:47.340 Then also, if you are looking to start some martial arts and need some solid European-made
00:01:52.920 gear, you can check out legiogloria.com, also had a release a few days ago, so check those
00:01:59.120 two pages out.
00:02:00.540 Now, on to the question, which martial art is the best?
00:02:06.400 We must rephrase the question and ask which martial art is best for you, and this is, my
00:02:13.800 response is usually twofold.
00:02:15.760 First and foremost, just, yeah, MMA.
00:02:17.280 Secondly, it depends, and it depends on what is the most convenient for you.
00:02:23.020 I can tell my own personal origins story, how it was when I started training Thai boxing.
00:02:31.260 This was when I was 16, and that was also, in August, I started the gymnasium, gymnasia
00:02:39.380 in Swedish.
00:02:39.860 So it's basically high school, you go from when you're about 16 to 18 or 19.
00:02:46.020 So I started school there, at that particular place, and in the vicinity was also the Thai
00:02:53.160 boxing.
00:02:53.760 So what I did then was simply, I waited.
00:02:57.500 From the last lesson, I waited.
00:02:59.900 I went to a local shopping mall.
00:03:03.620 I went to the sushi place, and I got myself a bowl of rice.
00:03:07.180 It cost me 10 crowns, so about a dollar or a euro as pre-workout.
00:03:13.280 Very frugal attitude I've always had, so it was good times.
00:03:18.000 So I basically just, yeah, waited it out, ate some, read some books, then went to training,
00:03:23.300 and then in the evening, I went back.
00:03:25.860 So that is, I started Thai boxing, and Thai boxing, for me, it was just what was most available
00:03:33.060 and what I had seen, because where I'm from, it's sort of like a new cultural thing has
00:03:39.380 been over the last 20 years that you train Thai boxing.
00:03:42.120 It's sort of like a cool thing to do.
00:03:45.160 So that was always in my mind.
00:03:48.100 Now, of course, this was, yeah, so 14 years ago, something like that.
00:03:52.120 We had MMA clubs and everything, but Thai boxing was still a bit bigger, a bit more common.
00:03:57.120 So that is why I started there.
00:04:00.780 Then we also had Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, which trained at the bottom of the locale, and they
00:04:06.860 had placed the times, so you could actually train Thai boxing the first hour, or an hour
00:04:11.740 and a half, and then an hour and a half Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
00:04:15.640 And since I already had to travel so far, well, not far, 40 minutes with a train, but anyway,
00:04:21.780 it made me train both Thai boxing and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, not necessarily because I had seen
00:04:28.280 so much of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, but because it was such a convenient thing for me to just,
00:04:33.740 yeah, be done with the Thai boxing, go down, train Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
00:04:38.080 So had it been the case that it had been Western boxing or MMA or judo or taekwondo or something
00:04:46.940 else, yeah, I might have started doing that instead.
00:04:49.360 But now it was just time and management.
00:04:52.380 So back then I trained three times a week and five sessions.
00:04:56.960 So it was Thai boxing and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu on Tuesdays.
00:05:01.220 On Wednesdays there was only Thai boxing, and then on Thursdays it was Thai boxing and Brazilian
00:05:06.120 Jiu-Jitsu again.
00:05:07.220 So I got that into my routine.
00:05:10.160 So school, training, go back home, and then repeat.
00:05:14.380 And during the weekends I didn't train at all because I didn't go out into that place.
00:05:20.640 Anyway, so that little origin story I hope can serve to, well, give you the answer as
00:05:30.360 to what I think is a good idea.
00:05:32.320 Train whatever works to incorporate in your everyday life.
00:05:36.300 Do you have a really good boxing gym 10 minutes from your work or from your school or from
00:05:42.220 where you live?
00:05:43.280 Yeah, by all means, train regular Western boxing, definitely.
00:05:47.520 Because if you're looking at self-defense, etc., Western boxing is extremely good because,
00:05:52.980 you know, you learn the important things such as head movement, etc.
00:05:56.420 And, you know, your punches are always going to be your primary weapons.
00:06:01.580 So if you drill it really well, you will be well served by it.
00:06:06.380 So, and the same thing if we're talking about wrestling, perhaps for all of my American supporters,
00:06:13.460 you might have, you know, wrestling in school.
00:06:16.080 And also a note here, when more righteous individuals come to power in Sweden,
00:06:20.440 we will definitely do, as in America, have wrestling as a, you know, staple sport in schools
00:06:27.140 because it's such a good way to just build a good mentality and build a good physique
00:06:31.760 because wrestling training is really hard.
00:06:35.100 It takes a toll on your mind also because you need to be really disciplined and really stick through it.
00:06:41.780 So that is something for all Americans.
00:06:43.620 If you have the opportunity, definitely go with wrestling.
00:06:47.380 Now, of course, if you are in Europe as well, if you have wrestling nearby, do it.
00:06:52.320 So anyway, point being that focus less on the exact sport.
00:06:58.140 Focus more on drilling the basics in for a long period of time.
00:07:02.740 Now, when I was 16, 17, I thought it was cooler to have, you know, flashy high kicks, etc.
00:07:08.800 So I got to a good level of flexibility, as you can see.
00:07:11.740 But in retrospect, I would have been better served by drilling more basics.
00:07:16.960 So basic head movement and foot movement in boxing.
00:07:20.860 So whatever you do, keep in mind that go in, be able to train it for a few days a week is drill the basics.
00:07:29.940 Drill the basics.
00:07:30.980 It's the same thing in the Temple of Iron.
00:07:32.900 You know, you don't, whenever I coach, I only show five or six exercises being the basic heavy compound movements.
00:07:41.000 And it's the same thing when I've done coaching for MMA.
00:07:45.060 Usually I say it's MMA coaching, but it can be only the footwork and head movements.
00:07:50.780 So you could say I coach boxing as well or Thai boxing if you throw in some knees.
00:07:56.020 But the important thing is that there are so many things that are similar that you can say like, oh, I train MMA, but actually it's boxing one day.
00:08:05.240 It's wrestling one day.
00:08:06.940 So it all goes in together.
00:08:09.020 But whatever you do, you want to drill in the basic thing.
00:08:12.340 And then also if you have a boxing gym, a Thai boxing gym, an MMA gym within a, you know, similar distance to where you live.
00:08:21.740 Important thing.
00:08:22.560 Just learn how to throw a left hook, right cross, basic head movement.
00:08:28.460 And yeah, that is the priority.
00:08:30.920 So if you're looking at starting something, just go with a thing, go with a sport, go with the club that is the closest, more convenient for you.
00:08:40.240 So you can do it over a long period of time.
00:08:43.200 Then, of course, also, if you can test train at some places, you can see what kind of atmosphere is there.
00:08:50.160 Is it, you know, a place with good coaches that, you know, can explain in a good way how to do these things?
00:08:57.980 Or is it a place where they just try to push in as many people as possible and they don't really care about the result of the individual?
00:09:06.500 So you have all of these different components.
00:09:09.320 So it might be the case if you ask me, as many of you have done, like, okay, what should I start?
00:09:14.340 And I say MMA.
00:09:15.480 But there might be the case that you have a boxing gym with a much better, you know, culture, atmosphere of the gym.
00:09:23.140 And you have better coaches that they really want to teach you because they're passionate about it.
00:09:27.980 And then you have the MMA gym across the street where they don't really care about you.
00:09:34.020 They just want to get in as many people as possible and they only focus on the pros or whatever.
00:09:39.960 Yeah, then I would encourage you to go to the boxing gym instead.
00:09:43.940 And same thing goes, of course, for wrestling compared to something else as well.
00:09:49.300 So basically, long story short, I will make more specific videos on certain martial arts.
00:09:56.080 But pick the place where you are comfortable to learn as well as possible.
00:10:04.980 And I'm not saying comfortable as in your comfort zone because it will be unpleasant.
00:10:10.220 I'm not going to lie.
00:10:11.380 It won't always be nice to train.
00:10:13.660 I don't particularly enjoy training most of the time either.
00:10:17.420 So, but I'm saying that how can you incorporate it successfully in your life?
00:10:23.100 So for me, again, what I did was simply, I went to high school at a certain place nearby.
00:10:28.940 There was Thai boxing, Brazilian jiu-jitsu.
00:10:30.800 I could fit it in really neatly into my life.
00:10:33.140 I ate some rice, read some books, waited for training, then went to train, then went back.
00:10:39.840 Really easy, really well-fitting into my life.
00:10:43.960 And you have to figure out your own life puzzle.
00:10:47.040 Then maybe you don't have access to any martial arts gym at all.
00:10:51.700 But then you just train in the Temple of Iron.
00:10:53.520 And then every once in a while, go into a city, get a personal boxing coach and have him show you the basics, his footwork.
00:11:01.820 Have him show you how to shadowbox so you can do it by yourself later.
00:11:06.900 So, anyway, I hope that was a somewhat good response to the topic at hand.
00:11:13.320 And, yeah, I will make more videos on it later and I will get back to my regular video routine at a later point.
00:11:19.940 But until then, check out all of the links in the description box below so you can stay tuned.
00:11:27.500 So, thank you for watching.
