00:01:14.940 Hello, everybody. I'm Lou Dobbs. Welcome to The Great America Show. Thanks for joining us.
00:01:23.280 And thanks, Iowans. Thanks for President Trump's big win, a big win for this embattled nation of
00:01:29.200 ours. DeSantis second, Haley third, and man oh man, did they spend money. The two spending $72
00:01:36.000 million, folks. That's the amount of money DeSantis and Haley spent to get smoked by Donald Trump in
00:01:42.580 the Iowa caucuses. Donald Trump spent a fraction of that amount at $18 million. The only difference
00:01:48.560 is Trump won 98 of the 99 counties in Iowa. That one county Trump lost and it was Johnson County and
00:01:56.420 he lost it by one vote, believe it or not. And Trump received more than 51 percent of the vote beat
00:02:02.900 distant runner-up Ron DeSantis in historic fashion by about 30 percent. Trump winning by the largest margin
00:02:10.480 in Iowa caucus history, doubling the next highest margin. DeSantis hailed his second place blowout
00:02:16.960 as a victory and he blames election interference for not winning. You heard that correctly,
00:02:21.960 according to Team DeSantis and its allies. Calling the race for Trump so early, within a half hour,
00:02:28.460 interfered with the results of the caucus. DeSantis' communications director wrote on Twitter,
00:02:33.520 quote, absolutely outrageous that the media would participate in election interference by calling
00:02:40.000 the race before tens of thousands of Iowans even had a chance to vote. I'm willing to, well, go out
00:02:46.000 on a limb and say that if Trump did not spend a single dollar in the state of Iowa and only was in the
00:02:51.400 state a few times, he still would have won by a double-digit margin. The Iowans know President Trump and
00:02:57.840 they know what kind of president he was and will soon be. And now, former 2024 contender Vivek Ramaswamy
00:03:05.620 has exited the race this week and now says he's devoting all his time to making sure President
00:03:11.720 Trump will be re-elected because Trump is the only America First candidate still in the race.
00:03:17.780 This has to be an America First candidate in that White House. As I've said since the beginning,
00:03:24.900 there are two America First candidates in this race. And earlier tonight, I called Donald Trump
00:03:30.800 to tell him that I congratulated him on his victory. And now going forward, he will have my full
00:03:38.380 endorsement for the presidency. And I think we're going to do the right thing for this country.
00:03:43.160 And so I'm going to ask you to follow me in taking our America First movement to the next level.
00:03:48.980 An Iowa CNN entrance poll taken on the night of the caucus shows 68 percent of the people believe
00:03:55.780 Joe Biden didn't legitimately win the 2020 election. It's polls like that that make us all continue to
00:04:02.460 talk about the 2020 election. It was a rigged election. It was a stolen election. And I can
00:04:09.060 guarantee you I'll keep investigating and searching for the truth until we know what happened in that
00:04:15.440 election. We know some of it right now, enough to know it was rigged. But we need to know all of it.
00:04:21.160 It's establishment candidates like DeSantis who do all they can to stop discussion of the stolen 2020
00:04:27.520 election because Governor DeSantis says it was a legitimate election. Check.
00:04:33.820 Yes or no, did Donald Trump lose the 2020 election?
00:04:38.160 Whoever puts their hand on the Bible on January 20th every four years is the winner.
00:04:43.520 OK, but respectfully, you did not clearly answer that question. And if you can't give
00:04:48.780 a yes or no one whether or not Trump lost, then how? Of course. No, of course he lost.
00:04:55.000 Trump lost the 2020 election. Of course. Joe Biden is the president.
00:04:59.080 And soon to be outgoing West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin, the latest him to tell Joe Biden,
00:05:04.040 enough is enough. The senator reportedly meeting with Biden this week to tell him if he doesn't
00:05:09.180 move closer to the center and farther from his Marxist ideals, Manchin will run for president
00:05:14.960 as a third party candidate, all but guaranteeing a victory for President Trump.
00:05:20.100 Speaker Mike Johnson finding himself in a bind this week. Will he shut down the government to
00:05:25.300 secure our southern border? Or will he give the Marxist Dems everything they want and continue to fund
00:05:32.220 these Marxists and this wide open border and all of the death that is being smuggled over it by the
00:05:39.040 drug cartels? Our guest today is Congressman Andy Biggs. He sits on the House Oversight Committee
00:05:44.520 and the House Judiciary Committee, where he is the chairman of the Judiciary Subcommittee
00:05:49.440 on Crime and Federal Government Surveillance. Congressman, great to have you back with us.
00:05:55.220 Let me start with the Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson, who apparently has this time stood up and
00:06:00.920 taking a strong stand against the Lankford border plan from the Senate. Your thoughts about Speaker
00:06:07.600 Johnson and what looks like to be a, well, a rare adherence to principle? Well, yeah, I mean,
00:06:15.640 in the House, if he were to go against that, there'd be a massive revolt because that plan,
00:06:22.740 the Lankford plan is so bad, Lou. And I think, I don't know if you want to get into it, but it's just
00:06:27.620 really a bad, bad plan. But here's the deal. Okay. So, I view Mike Johnson as a golden retriever.
00:06:35.480 He's like a golden retriever. This is going to end well, is it?
00:06:39.240 We happen to have a golden retriever in my house. And this golden retriever, like all golden
00:06:45.080 retrievers, very nice, very kind. Everybody loves the golden retriever. Everybody wants to pat it. And
00:06:50.960 the dog is so, so obliging. But you can't get the darn dog to fight. You know what I mean? If you
00:06:56.920 wanted, it wouldn't fight to save itself. But occasionally, it'll kind of raise its paws and
00:07:04.220 do something. And thank goodness that the Speaker is raising his paws against the Lankford plan.
00:07:09.860 Because other than that, you know, the dog, a golden retriever likes to get his belly rubbed and roll
00:07:14.900 over and that type of thing. And unfortunately, we have a speaker who's kind of like a golden retriever
00:07:20.600 right now. Well, I'm sure he's going to appreciate the metaphor. And I have to say, I can't imagine how
00:07:30.520 you could have had two speakers in a row who were having so much trouble with their own courage,
00:07:37.620 with their own set of principles, which I wouldn't would have expected to reflect the principles of
00:07:44.500 the conference. I don't understand what is going on in the House of Representatives or your conference.
00:07:52.320 What's it going to take? I guess what I'm saying is, you can't be a very good leader if you can't
00:07:58.820 follow. I've always believed that axiom. He was apparently a cherished follower, but he also can't
00:08:06.560 lead, apparently. I don't understand the issue. Well, you know, I'll take it back and you throw Paul
00:08:13.460 Ryan in there and you had three. Oh, boy. You had three guys that really took us to the wrong class.
00:08:19.700 Let's go back to John Boehner. If you go back to John Boehner, at least John Boehner on a few things
00:08:24.540 was willing to say, this is where we're going. We're not going further. And nobody in this conference,
00:08:29.440 and he would fight, he would lead, you know, on a few things, right? I just, I'm stunned by it myself,
00:08:37.300 you know, and, and, but I'm going to tell you something that I've decided that I think I've
00:08:44.200 realized. It's taken me a while to realize it. These guys that are like, that are the leaders,
00:08:49.940 the speakers, they actually reflect the conference. I'm sad, I'm sad to say that, but I got to believe
00:08:56.200 that they reflect a significant number of the conference. They don't reflect me, of course,
00:09:01.080 and they don't reflect. Oh, I would say a third or more of the conference, but they seem to
00:09:07.620 represent enough of the conference to be able to, to, to get elected these guys. And that's the,
00:09:16.100 that's the saddest part for me is, is not that he is not leading, but that he may actually be quite
00:09:24.480 frankly, he and McCarthy and Ryan, they may actually have reflected the conference.
00:09:31.640 Though I never felt that they were reflecting me or my constituents.
00:09:35.800 Yeah, I guess there is that. And that's, is a sorry, sorry situation. I can't understand how
00:09:43.680 people in your conference can say, you know, the border is in crisis and then go back to their
00:09:50.080 offices and, and just do business as usual without taking on the issue. Why, why is there any question
00:09:57.560 in the minds of people? I don't care whether rhinos or conservatives. The reality is that border is
00:10:04.120 under the control of the Mexican drug cartels and the Chinese communists who are making,
00:10:09.540 who are mixing up all of the fentanyl. This isn't complicated stuff. Either you, you deal with that
00:10:16.920 reality and stop funding it, but don't sit there and whine about it or talk to your, just your, you
00:10:23.240 know, do a little radio and TV pieces for your constituents complaining about it, and then go
00:10:30.960 ahead and, and fund the appropriations. Just, you know, it's all fine. We'll give you a continuing
00:10:36.440 resolution. How about an omnibus? You can spend life at Dickens until as long as you want. This is a,
00:10:42.320 this is purely hypocritical, uh, deceitful, uh, and gutless.
00:10:47.600 Yeah, I, I view it as being a really cynical approach to governance. Um, so, so what they do is they, they,
00:10:55.280 they, they have a big deal down on the border. Okay. We got to do something. And then they say, we're
00:10:59.200 going to need to get some new policy, right? Lou, as if policy is going to change it. Policy will not
00:11:04.720 change this. This is a lawless administration. Even if they sign something into law, this administration
00:11:10.080 knows they're going to gamble on a couple of things. Number one, that, uh, nobody's going to
00:11:15.040 sue them when they don't enact that policy. And if somebody does sue them, that it's going to carry
00:11:19.120 out past the next election, right? So, so they really don't mind because the next election between
00:11:24.560 now and then you'll have 5 million illegal aliens will have come in. My position is go ahead and shut
00:11:29.840 the government down. But we have, you cannot believe the number of people in our conference that
00:11:33.680 are scared to death. If you say the word, shut the government down because they say, oh,
00:11:37.520 I won't ever get elected again. Well, at some point you have to say, let's shut the government
00:11:43.680 down because we happen to care about the country more than we even care about our own next election.
00:11:49.120 Right? So, so today I'll give you a heads up. I'm introducing legislation today
00:11:55.600 to protect against this, this, the short, the shutdown scaredy cats. And what it does is it says,
00:12:01.200 you know, first of all, you and I both know Medicare, Medicaid, social security,
00:12:04.320 that keeps getting funded anyway. There's already a statute on the books. So my bill says,
00:12:08.880 okay, but we're going to keep funding the vets, the armed forces, ICBP, the air traffic controllers,
00:12:14.240 and TSA. But other than that, we're not funding anything. We're not going to fund anything.
00:12:19.440 And then, and then you can go back and say, we funded 80% of the government. We funded the things
00:12:25.600 that have to be funded to protect our rights, our military, et cetera. But we're not going to fund
00:12:30.960 the Green New Deal crap or the FBI spying on you. We're going to stop that until the borders enforced.
00:12:37.120 Well, let me just say, hallelujah. We're talking with Congressman Andy Biggs.
00:12:42.160 We're coming right back to learn more about his legislation. Stay with us.
00:12:52.880 We're back now with Congressman Andy Biggs. And Congressman, tell us what you,
00:12:56.960 what you intend and what you think will be the result, the response of the conference.
00:13:03.920 Well, so what I'm intending to do is take away the argument that we can't do a government shutdown
00:13:08.480 to save the border, save the country by closing the border. So I'm saying, okay, well, if you're afraid
00:13:13.280 of that, let's fund the things that we have to have, veterans, military, et cetera. And then we won't fund
00:13:20.800 this other garbage, this bureaucracy that's run amok, that's destroying the country anyway. And we
00:13:25.680 won't begin funding any of that until there's actual border security enforcement, not policy,
00:13:34.640 but actual enforcement where you're turning people away at the border, or maybe you're removing people
00:13:39.200 finally from who are illegally in the country. I think I'm trying to take away that argument,
00:13:44.480 but I'm also trying to say the only leverage we have is the purse strings. And so if you do those
00:13:50.720 two things, I think we have a shot. The speaker has actually presented my plan to a significant
00:13:58.240 portion of the conference. I've gotten positive feedback, but the reality is you have some people
00:14:07.280 who said absolutely no, no way, no, how not going to do it. We got new start programs. We've got to
00:14:14.240 fund for the military industrial complex, and we're not going to set those aside for six months until we
00:14:20.400 secure the border. We got to have that. I mean, I understand their arguments, but they don't
00:14:26.640 understand the existential crisis at the border. I don't think they understand the American people
00:14:31.360 either. Right now, Donald Trump coming off a huge win, a historic win in Iowa, in the Iowa caucuses,
00:14:40.880 on his way to New Hampshire, where he's going to be battling toe-to-toe John Sununu, this snarky little
00:14:49.120 attack dog for the rhinos, beloved everywhere by the establishment. And he's going to crush them
00:14:57.920 there as well. He's going to be the next president, I believe firmly. How in the world can this
00:15:04.640 conference be so mealy-mouthed, so gutless, failing to adhere to basically America first policies
00:15:15.200 and MAGA? Because that's obviously what the American people want. Joe Biden has the lowest
00:15:20.480 approval ratings of any president in modern history. And President Trump is scoring now
00:15:28.640 historic victories in the primary process. And you know, the Congress isn't held in high
00:15:34.240 esteem either by the American public. I just can't see how these forces don't coalesce around,
00:15:40.640 let's do the right thing. That should be the mantra for everyone.
00:15:44.640 Yeah, that's what I've told the speaker. I've expressed myself to the speaker very clearly. I
00:15:49.680 said, look, your budget plan is a disaster because, you know, I won't get into it unless you want me
00:15:56.880 to. But I told him, I said, it's going to be almost unanimous from the Democrat side. And you're going
00:16:03.280 to lose 70 to 100 votes on the Republican side. And so that's a big, huge, embarrassing defeat.
00:16:09.360 Why not at least do a plan like mine or a plan where you're bending the trajectory of spending
00:16:16.080 down and solving the border problem? And then if you lose some of our more
00:16:26.000 moderate types in the House, and they say, well, we're going to go with the Democrats
00:16:30.080 and pass our own bill out, at least you would have stood up. At least you would have done it
00:16:35.520 on principle. At least you would have shown that there is a distinction and that being a Republican
00:16:40.160 actually means something. And being an American first Republican means something. At least you
00:16:45.520 would have demonstrated that because we're going to probably lose one way or the other.
00:16:49.840 Why not lose with dignity, honor and fight?
00:16:52.800 And responsibility. And a sense of responsibility to the nation, to the Republic, to the American
00:17:00.320 people. I was just thinking, maybe you ought to have a banner. Give courage and principle a chance.
00:17:08.000 Just simply that. Put it over the entrance there. I guess you can't put up too many banners in the
00:17:16.080 House. But I don't know. We're sitting here. I'm laughing about it. But it's laughing at the absurdity
00:17:23.760 that we have 435 members of Congress and frankly, a tragic, pitiful handful like you who are willing
00:17:35.440 to stand up for the country. You've got people running from their elections, running from their
00:17:40.400 donors. They're scared to death of their shadows. And they're wanting to come across as big, tough,
00:17:45.680 bad, you know, principled Republicans. They're not. They're what you said. I mean, they're
00:17:52.880 they're milk toast and marmalade there. Well, there's certainly don't mean to offend marmalade,
00:17:59.840 but there it is. You know, I happen to like marmalade. Go easy on the marmalade way.
00:18:03.840 And actually, I like milk toast. That was a that was a comfort food. Lou, come on,
00:18:07.680 you're killing my comfort food. But but anyway, when you start looking at this, I'm I'm I'm often baffled
00:18:13.760 by it because I'll see people write stuff and they'll say some of my colleagues will say these
00:18:18.960 guys just they're here to yell and scream. No, we're not here to yell and scream. We're here to
00:18:23.360 affect change. And that's why we introduce legislation to affect change. That's why we
00:18:29.280 fight on the floor. That's why we use the the tools of of procedure to try to slow things down.
00:18:35.440 Let's go like we did last week. Twelve of us stand up and say, we're not going to let you
00:18:39.840 bring this to the floor. They can't understand that. That's what and I'm the one who's baffled
00:18:44.720 because I don't understand how you can't fight, how you can't fight. This gets back to the golden
00:18:50.160 retriever thing. I mean, I got this golden retriever. Everybody wants to pet the golden retriever, but
00:18:54.800 but it's a big enough dog to fight. And so I find myself just saying, why don't you want to fight?
00:19:01.200 Why don't you want to fight for the country? And they just think I'm I'm outrageous, I guess.
00:19:06.080 Well, and you know, speaking of people yelling and all of this, I've never heard you raise your
00:19:11.840 voice. I don't think any of your colleagues have. It would be my bet. And I just really can't
00:19:18.800 understand why logic, reason and facts don't present themselves meaningfully to these members of the
00:19:27.840 Republican conference who are they're really worse than rhinos. But let's call them rhinos and give
00:19:33.120 them some little credit. It's it's a sad thing to watch. Yeah, think of it, Lou, think of it this way.
00:19:40.640 If if if you're in New York and you have a district that Biden won by a few points or what, maybe a lot.
00:19:46.480 I don't know. But Democrats, independents and Republicans all care about two issues, number one and
00:19:52.720 two. They care about the border and they care about the economy. And what is devastating New York City right
00:19:57.440 now? It is it is certainly the the border issue is come up right up to New York City or Chicago or
00:20:05.600 Detroit and all these places. And they're puking. The economy is also touching them.
00:20:10.800 It's you know, listen to Pritzker, the governor of Illinois. Yeah, he says he's begging. He's begging
00:20:18.160 Greg Abbott not to send any more immigrants. And then he's telling everybody. But, you know, really,
00:20:23.680 the problem. It's not really a problem because Joe Biden is a friend of mine. I mean, these people
00:20:28.640 aren't even intelligent about their their lack of scruples. We're talking with Congressman Andy Biggs
00:20:37.120 and we're going to talk further right after these quick words. Please stay with us. We'll be right back.
00:20:42.000 We're back now. We're talking with Congressman Andy Biggs. Congressman, let me ask you, I want to go
00:20:53.120 back to Mike Johnson because he is critical in all of this. Courage is supposed to be courageous.
00:20:59.920 There's no contagion in Congress, I think, is what we've established here in this discussion.
00:21:04.560 But is Johnson wise enough? Is he smart enough to understand that he needs to set a standard
00:21:15.920 that his kids and other, you know, and the parents of other kids across the country for generations
00:21:22.560 might be willing to say the name Mike Johnson with respect, even adulation.
00:21:29.920 It's a time for leadership. Why isn't there some sense of responsibility to all of those people?
00:21:37.440 You know, I I have encouraged him repeatedly that now is the time to take the stand. Now is the time
00:21:44.320 to be the leader. Now is the time to go to people who doubt his leadership. And quite frankly,
00:21:49.920 there's a lot on both sides now, the more squishy as well as the more rock ribbed. Everybody's like,
00:21:55.600 well, what's he doing? I mean, now's the time to go to them and say, you know what,
00:22:01.120 we can't do that Schumer deal. That's terrible. He's got some staff people that I think were pretty
00:22:09.360 good that he brought with him. But then now they get there and all of a sudden
00:22:16.560 they're clenching a little bit there. Okay, so let me give you an example.
00:22:20.720 Are you talking about his staff? Are you talking about other members of leadership?
00:22:25.120 His staff. I'm talking about his staff. So, so I'm, I play, you know, several musical instruments.
00:22:31.760 And you, and one of the things we like to say is thinking kills the flow. And so you, you, you're
00:22:36.880 worried if you get to worry about making a mistake, guaranteed, you're going to make a mistake. But if
00:22:41.600 you let the muscle memory kick in and you, and you have the courage to, you know, to riff a little bit
00:22:47.120 with the music, you're going to be okay. He doesn't seem to have the courage to riff. He's too busy
00:22:52.640 thinking about what is, what is the fallout for me? What's the fallout for this? I only have a one
00:22:57.760 vote majority, but here's the deal. You only have a one vote majority. And so if you're going to,
00:23:05.040 if you, if you're trying to govern, to make sure that you win everything, then you're going to have
00:23:10.880 to give to the Democrats on 99% of things. That's not good for the country. I would rather you stood
00:23:18.160 tall that you had the courage to go down there, make your case to your members of your conference
00:23:25.200 repeatedly about why you're going to do what you're going to do. And it can't be,
00:23:29.360 we're going to fight tomorrow. It can't be, we can't get out of the Senate. It can't be, oh,
00:23:34.560 we only have a one vote majority. It has to be something like, we're going to do the best we can,
00:23:39.360 because by golly, that's what the American people have said we should do. They've sent us here to
00:23:45.280 try to make change and effectuate change. Now's the time to try to do it. It's not tomorrow. It's
00:23:50.800 not the next week. It's not after the next election. It is today because we are in an existential crisis.
00:23:57.040 I've begged him to accept that point of view. He hasn't so far.
00:24:02.160 It is a tough moment, I guess, in his defense to at least give a bit of his perspective.
00:24:13.920 But why take the job if you're not strong enough to make tough decisions, to do what's right for
00:24:21.520 the country? Because otherwise, you're just a political hack. Taking a job just like any other
00:24:27.360 opportunist for a little more money, a little bigger office, a lot bigger office, let's be honest.
00:24:36.080 To me, it's mindless. And I think the American people, I want to say too,
00:24:41.200 Congressman, I appreciate your candor today. And I know the audience does,
00:24:45.280 talking straight about matters that matter most to us right down at this point in history.
00:24:52.000 I'm going to give you the last word. I've got one other question before we turn to you for your
00:24:58.160 concluding thoughts. And that is, with President Trump in the Oval Office, will he get more support
00:25:07.520 from the conference than he did the last time? Or will he have to battle his own damn party just like
00:25:14.000 the last time? I believe that with the current leadership, they would fall in line with President
00:25:22.400 Trump were he the president. I do believe that. And I also hope and pray that we have a better
00:25:29.280 majority, a stronger majority than last time. But you know, Lou, I've taken a little bit of a black pill on
00:25:37.440 this place that that sometimes people like me have to be here to be the conscience. And some of my
00:25:44.400 colleagues need a constant reminder, we're the Jiminy Cricket of the conference, and they don't
00:25:51.280 like to listen to us. And so like, just like in that, that movie about Pinocchio, they start sprouting
00:25:58.800 a tale of a jackass because they don't listen to the right voices. I believe that Donald Trump
00:26:09.440 will be an even better president next time than he was last time, because I think he'll surround
00:26:14.400 himself with better people. And that personnel is important. But I also believe that the voices in
00:26:21.200 Congress that are his most strongest adherents will be even stronger next time and be able to help
00:26:28.560 him. But yeah, I think, I think it'd be very much more successful this next time from everything
00:26:34.960 from the border to the economy to world stability and peace. Good grief. I mean, just just think of
00:26:43.120 how upside down we are because of the three short years of Joe Biden. Yeah, it's sobering and
00:26:50.720 disheartening to think about the pain that so many millions of Americans are have endured and will
00:26:56.880 endure for some time because of this president. And by the way, the national media's refusal to
00:27:04.960 acknowledge that this is an administration of Marxists who've taken over the Democrat Party,
00:27:11.360 as well as the federal government. And we've got Republicans trying to pretend it's just the
00:27:15.600 good old Democrats and we're a party of loyal opposition. They don't know it, but they're on the
00:27:21.760 battlefield. And it is a it is it is a war to the to the finish. And I hope not the finish of the
00:27:28.480 republic. We pray not. And Andy Biggs, we always appreciate you joining us here. Thanks so much for your
00:27:36.720 wisdom and your insight. Thank you, Lou. Thanks for all you do. Keep it up. Thanks, everybody,
