00:00:00.000 Hello everybody, I'm John Fawcett with this Great America Show midday update for Tuesday,
00:00:04.160 September 17th. New details out about the would-be Trump assassin. The FBI, Interpol,
00:00:10.180 and Customs and Border Protection were warned about the former President Donald Trump's second
00:00:14.520 alleged assassin, Ryan Wesley Ruth, months before the assassination attempt on Sunday,
00:00:20.060 when the Secret Service spotted Ruth with a rifle about 400 yards away from the former president.
00:00:24.860 The lack of preventative measures against Ruth caused some political pundits to speculate
00:00:28.740 that the federal agencies engaged in willful negligence while protecting President Trump.
00:00:34.320 Chelsea Walsh, a nurse who had several encounters with Ruth in Kiev, Ukraine,
00:00:38.940 alerted authorities to Ruth's threats of violence multiple times, she told the Wall Street Journal on Monday.
00:00:44.360 In June of 22, she conveyed her concerns to a Customs and Border Protection agent
00:00:48.680 in an hours-long interview at Washington Dulles Airport, noting that Ruth was among the most
00:00:54.020 dangerous Americans she had met during her month-and-a-half-long stint in Ukraine. 0.99
00:00:57.520 Again, in 2023, Walsh alerted the FBI and Interpol about Ruth, but she did not hear back
00:01:03.080 from the FBI, of course. When she heard in 2023 that Ruth was attempting to recruit Syrian refugees 0.62
00:01:08.420 to fight in Ukraine, she filed an online report with the FBI and Interpol outlining her concerns
00:01:13.820 about Ruth and others. She says she never heard back from neither the FBI or Customs and Border
00:01:19.320 Protection. Ruth's behavior had been flagged to the FBI in the past, though not connected to Ukraine.
00:01:25.040 A tipster told the FBI in 2019 that Ruth had a firearm despite being a felon,
00:01:30.780 but when questioned further, wouldn't verify providing the information, an FBI official said
00:01:35.380 on Monday. The Bureau passed the information on to the authorities in Honolulu, Hawaii,
00:01:40.000 where Ruth was living at the time, and closed the investigation.
00:01:43.860 Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has announced an executive order assigning the attempted assassination
00:01:48.220 case to the office of the statewide prosecutor. DeSantis says it's not in the best interest to have
00:01:53.600 the same federal agencies seeking the prosecution of Donald Trump leading this investigation.
00:01:59.440 Take a listen to DeSantis today.
00:02:01.380 In my judgment, it's not in the best interest of our state or our nation to have the same federal
00:02:05.600 agencies that are seeking to prosecute Donald Trump leading this investigation, especially
00:02:11.200 when the most serious, straightforward offense constitutes a violation of state law,
00:02:17.160 but not federal law. In addition to holding the suspect accountable, the public deserves to know
00:02:23.740 the truth about how this assassination came to be. And I've directed all state agencies to work
00:02:31.000 expeditiously to be able to uncover the truth in addition to holding this suspect accountable.
00:02:37.940 Great on Governor DeSantis for ensuring a proper, uncorrupted investigation will happen in Florida,
00:02:43.000 unlike the one in Pennsylvania. Be sure to join us for today's episode of The Great America Show.
00:02:47.860 We're joined by Congressman Tim Burchett of Tennessee. We take up the latest on the spending
00:02:52.020 fight and much more. Be sure to follow me on Twitter at JohnFawcettNY and on Truth Social
00:02:56.840 at John Fawcett, and join us each and every weekday for The Great America Show.
00:03:01.120 I'm John Fawcett with this midday update. Have a great day, folks.
